I write this review as a non-New Yorker who loves lox on my bagels. The service and Russ and Daughters is phenomenal. Sometimes the line gets long, but when it’s your turn, the person helping you if with you 100%, which means no mistakes on your order and sometimes just fun conversation. Now to the stuff you’re really reading this review for…the food! I usually get an onion or garlic bagel with horseradish dill cream cheese, belly lox, and capers. This is salt central and amazing for someone like me who would rather have beef jerky for dessert than a cookie. The flavor is amazing, best bagels and lox I’ve had in the city.

The BEST service and bagel & lox!! They were very helpful with their recommendations. Pricey, but well worth it for the quality of salmon, the freshness of the bagel, and the true experience at this iconic eatery! I could only eat one half at a time and saved the other for later. Could easily split for two.

The service here is really great—proper counter banter. Everything is deliberate so not the fastest moving line, but worth it when it’s your turn. Mostly a spot for fish fans, but I come for the sweets and egg bagels. They’re doing babka ice cream sandwiches right now which I didn’t know about until after I ordered, so let me do you the solid of bringing your attention to them here.Seating available in the general building 77 lobby or out front.

Probably the best bagels in the new york and definitely the best salmon/spreads in my opinion. Theyre legendary for a reason. Definitely pricier than your average bagel shop but average this place is not. Bagels cant get fresher than this because theyre made right here at the BK navy yard location. Russ and daughters always cheers me up and has been a godsend during the pandemic. So long, and thanks for all the fish!

Nice location inside the Brooklyn navy yard. I tried the classic bagel and lox, I chose the everything bagel with caviar cream cheese, onions and capers, and it was perfection in a sandwich! The bagels are made fresh right in front of your eyes, and theyre incredibly delicious, all the ingredients work perfectly together to create a perfect bite😋

On the positive side, the staff were very friendly. On the opposite side, they were a bit slow, and didn’t seem to have a great system for taking orders. Waited about 20 minutes in line when only 4-5 people were in front of us. While we were being serviced, it took about 10 minutes to get two bagels made and checked out. By the time we got our bagels, a line had wrapped around the corner. They were friendly so I didn’t mind the wait, but I don’t think this would happen anywhere else, and I doubt most new yorkers would be as patient. The bagels themselves were fine. Toasted plain and everything bagels tasted fresh, with the right amount of chew. They were quite small, and the smear of cream cheese you get with a custom bagel or one of their sandwiches was offensively sparse to say the least. The “Fancy Delancey” (tuna, horseradish cream cheese, wasabi roe) sounded good on paper but wasn’t a great combination overall. It just tasted overly mustardy and salty because there wasn’t enough cream cheese to balance it.Overall overpriced, pretty disappointed for all the hype this place gets, and I don’t think I’ll come back.

I feel like it goes against popular opinion, but I didn’t LOVE the bagel & lox that I got there. Their fish offering is what everyone raves about and I would agree that the lox on my bagel was delicious and Im sure if you’re just going there for those types of ingredients, it’s a fantastic choice. But the bagel was so hard and dense, just not good for a NYC bagel, or really a bagel from anywhere. I should have gotten it toasted because it just didn’t taste fresh. I was also disappointed by the dill & horseradish cream cheese. It had barely any flavor, which I thought was crazy given both dill and horseradish are very flavorful. I was embarrassed that I hadn’t been to Russ and Daughters after living in the city for 10 years but to be honest I definitely wouldn’t go back if I was just looking for a good bagel.

Incredible pastrami salmon with cream cheese on any bagel. Couldn’t get enough of it. So good in fact, need to go back and just make pinwheels with the fish and cream cheese. A must go, and love the generational history of this business. You will not be disappointed!

Workers are nice and helpful. However, I found the entire bagel sandwich mediocre - stingy with the fish, surprisingly not that fresh or unique, and no better in taste than what I could get on the West Coast or from Trader Joes. Definitely over-priced (easily $16+ per sandwich, extra cost for any toppings like capers, tomatoes or onions).

Great bagels and cream cheese + whatever kind of toppings you want. This place gets really busy but well worth the wait.
