Rye in other cities:
Service was sketchy. Waited 30 minutes and had to flag down an employee just to put in a drink order. Never actually had a waitress ask if we needed anything, she only dropped off the food. Had to physically go to the bar to request a second drink. With that being said, the food was AMAZING!! If the service was better, would be a easy 5 stars.
Have you ever gone anywhere for brunch with your friends and they tell you, you can NOT order a cocktail because the bar is too busy?! insane, I know. Welcome to Rye Bar. Not only did we wait almost an hour to get these elusive drinks, but then get denied!! wow. Then I ordered the shakshuka, I could of opened my own can of stewed tomatoes at home and dropped to eggs in it! EVEN could of enjoyed it with a cocktail!! Sorry Rye, you left a bad taste in my mouth. Maybe you shouldn’t take in more than you can handle because today did NOT look pretty for you!!
Not at all busy, but took forever to get served. When the food finally came, it was wrong. Yes, they messed up a grilled chicken salad. After our food was dropped off, had to flag down an employee for salad dressing, only to be told no, that his job was to clear away dishes, not serve.
Wow. Stopped in on the way to Buffalo and it was the worst food. First, we arrived 10 minutes before a large party and got our food about 15 minutes the large table received their food.Secondly, we ordered a caesar salad with grilled chicken, marinated olives, grilled asparagus with balsamic glaze with a side of gluten free pita (menus dates they offer gf option).Thirdly, after waiting way too long, house mngr comes out and says the olives are taking awhile (um, really? marinated olives take awhile???) so we just bagged them. Then he said he was confused by the gf pita option….hmm, then you may not want to offer gf option.Lastly, when the food does come out, asparagus comes out with nothing on them, they forgot the glaze apparently, salmon is barely cooked so I had 2 bites from the end pieces as it was the only cooked portion and the dressing was oil with shredded onions in it…wrong dressing. We weren’t drinking but maybe we should have..The BEST part of the restaurant was the music! Standard jazz.
I had a phenomenal dinner at Rye last weekend. I ordered scallops and they were done perfectly! The snap peas were lightly sauted, yet still crunchy, the pickles were spicy and a little on the sweet side and the potatoes were full of flavor. The food was so good I forgot to take a picture until I had stuffed my face. *My husband hates pickles and gave me his from his Reuben. The Reuben was also excellently made with super thick slices of corned beef. Cant wait to go back!
We went there last evening with friends...I loved this restaurant! The atmosphere was perfect! Not to dark, not to bright, clean, cozy, comfortable, great colors, great pictures.... overall.....perfect.The drinks were incredible! Old time cocktails and their cocktails... I ordered 1 from each menu. Delicious! The food... omg.... I had the lamb Shepard pie. I LOVE lamb and this dish had plenty of lamb. I will dream about this dish when we return to Florida.
Had a wonderful experience! Joined some colleagues for a business dinner. Server was wonderful and knowledgeable. Drinks were delicious, appetizers were fantastic. Our entrees were delightful. Steaks were cooked absolutely perfectly. Will definitely return next time I am in Elmira.
This place is such a gem for Elmira! Ive been several times for dinner in-house, ordered take out, and have now experienced their Sunday brunch (complete with bottomless mimosas) and it blows me away every time. My favorite so far is the steak frites and the lemon basil martini. The staff is always so friendly and the food and drinks are high quality. Keep up the good work and Ill see you again soon!
Wonderful! We got a bunch of stuff to try for our first time at Rye and our waiter, Jeff, was awesome, very friendly and welcoming. One of our orders was mixed up but he quickly remedied it and everything was phenomenal. Will definitely be returning when visiting Elmira!
Great atmosphere and staff. Variety of options for everyone. Shashuka was excellent. As was the scallops Benny. Pancakes super fluffy. Bartender totally rocked the spicy bloody mary with all the garnishes. Long wait for food but there was a large private party there. Even the kitchen staff out back on a break greeted us when we parked our cars. Looking forward to a return visit.
What a pleasant surprise! We were looking for a brunch spot and our party could not have been more delighted. The brunch menu is creative and sophisticated, and each dish and drink was expertly executed. The dinner menu looks to be even more adventurous. I can’t wait to give it a try.
Service was slow, even though we were 1 of 4 tables, and there were more staff than customers....and food was not worth the price. Its clear this is a newer bar/restaurant. It was beautiful inside and very clean. However, we will not be returning for food ..maybe a drink at the bar
Very classy atmosphere, super friendly staff, food is very good. I gave a 4 star because I feel that the menu could use some more choices. Also, the first time I was there I had a chicken sandwich and it was pretty dry. Second time I was going to get a Reuben, but they were out of corned beef. I had a burger instead and it was very good. Fries were REALLY good and a generous pile on the plate. We also had sriracha wings, which were great, and my husband had the salmon blt which he enjoyed. The prices are a little on the high side, but I really liked the dining experience, and plan to visit this establishment regularly (maybe 1 or 2 times per month) as this is a nice place that has a relaxing, enjoyable atmosphere and good food.
The remodel was very nice inside and out. The wait staff was very attentive and professional. The food and drinks came out in a timely fashion and the prime ribs came out perfectly as ordered (rare and medium rare) and were delicious. Mom throughly enjoyed her hamburger and salad. I could tell that it was professionally managed. As a small business owner myself, I felt that the owner was likely onsite. 4.75 stars! Will definitely be going back.
We had dinner tonight at The Rye Restaurant in Elmira (formerly Horigan’s). It was our first dining out experience in 3 months due to the restaurant shut down from COVID. It was great to get out... but even better was the food! I ordered the fish fry.. it was fresh, not heavily battered or greasy and was amazing! My husband ordered the pub steak and it was cooked perfectly and was very tender. The remodeled interior is beautiful and the service was great! Would highly recommend! We’ll be back!
The restaurant is very nice and has a classy feel. Music was too loud and made folks talk loud which made it very hard to have a conversation. It took an hour and a half for a beef sandwich and a salmon dish. Beef sandwich contained so much fat my friend could hardly eat it. The menu says Salmon is served with a vegetable and mashed potatoes for $22. I requested salad instead of mashed potatoes. The salad was served on the hot plate with the salmon drenched in vinaigrette dressing which made it very soggy. The hot green beans were served on the side on a separate plate. The salmon, however, was good. I was not impressed with the food especially for the price. This place has potential, but food quality and presentation needs improvement for the price.
It was okay overall. The food was good, but the service, though friendly enough, was extremely slow. Our table, though the second one in the room, was literally the last to be served. None of our meals were complicated, a filet mignon with french fries, a lasagna and salad, a hamburger with fries ( which were supposed to be potato chips), a fish sandwich, and a fried fish dinner. The filet mignon and lasagna ended up being cold. They recognized the poor service we were getting, even though we never complained, the waiter apologized at least four times. Once to tell us that everyone elses food came out first because they had fish fry. I didnt pay a whole lot of attention to what other tables were eating, but I did see at least one other steak. The second time he apologized, he said our food was being plated up, but it was still a while before it came out. So, probably some of it was being plated up, which would explain why the filet mignon and lasagna got cold. They also recognized their extreme delay by offering to compensate us with dessert. OH, BUT only offering two out of the five of us dessert; presumably it was for the two that ordered the new right thing -- fish. Then to add insult to injury one of the people couldnt get the dessert she wanted, which had initially been offered.
Last evenings delight centered on Rye Bar & its phenomenal kitchen! A reuben burger accompanied a philly cheese stead sandwich - both prepared masterfully & tasting beyond the beyond! Friendly take-out at its best: polite phone hospitality joins kitchen excellence - all very reasonably priced! Rye Bar ROCKS! Thank you for making our city better & better...
Had the worse experience here and will never waste my $ trying it again. Ordered sone food to go, picked it up, got home to corning and it was completely wrong and had missing my tens. Called back to get it corrected and they were out of what was ordered and couldn’t even get a credit or anything. Horrible experience and I’ll never set foot at this place again and I suggest you do the same, if not check your order before you leave or hand them a penny!
In this beautifully updated pub, Charlie Hunter and his staff serve up refreshing drink choices, delicious and photo-worthy food options, and service that is both friendly and shows a great attention to detail. We went to brunch today - a group of 8 - and were all thoroughly delighted. Rye also has pick-up meals and drinks available - which weve enjoyed and know you will, too.
The service was very slow and quit awful honestly. Only half if not less of the restaurant was filled and it took nearly 20 minutes for a glass of wine. They forgot our iced tea even after our food was ordered. Food was nothing special, could get better from a local pub. The bathrooms you’ll get a kick out of too, absolutely tiny and no privacy. Overall very dissatisfied, was expecting much better and they let us down.

2022-03-28We stopped here for dinner on our way home from elmira. I picked this placed from the reviews and the photos and it was a great choice! My wife ordered the rodeo burger with onion rings. The onion rings were fantastic. I ordered a peanut butter and jelly burger which I thought was odd and was why I had to try it. It was very delicious and a little messy. It was a very filling meal in a great atmosphere. All the staff was excellent and our server was great and personable. It was a very great experience and Id definitely recommend stopping in for a great meal.

2022-08-02Had such a beautiful baby shower this past weekend at The Rye Bar and Restaurant. We were so pleased with Melanie, catering manager along with Charlie and the amazing staff!! The food, event space and overall service could not have been more perfect! They went above and beyond to make sure everyone had a great time and the service was fantastic. Would recommend them to anyone in the area!

2022-02-26Beautiful place that makes you happy to be there. The food was great, and the meal I had was one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. The brunch service was a little lacking (I think we got lost in the shuffle and forgotten for a while) but it seemed like our negative experience was an anomaly, and I can’t wait to go again.

2022-07-29A pleasant surprise and fantastic meal. Staff was friendly, helpful and easy going. As someone who can out-cook many restaurants Im not one to leave reviews unless warranted. The salmon was done perfectly. Chicken was done great. And the selection of wines and liquors was very impressive even by NYC standards. Thanks for a wonderful evening!

2022-04-10Fabulous brunch! Farm Fresh Eggs you say? Im surprised I didnt hear clucking in the parking lot. Beautiful, rich, yellow yolks oozed from both the Eggs Benny and over the crisp, corned beef hash. We shared a crisp waffle with fresh berry compote. The batter was a perfect, pearl sugar recipe, evenly cooked to a perfect golden brown on a quality iron and served with quality maple syrup. The place was packed (read as..you should make reservations) and rightly so. Prices were very reasonable considering the effort and investment involved in getting such high-quality ingredients and staff to produce such an excellent meal. Ive paid the same on many occasions from other local breakfast places in the area - but not with this quality. We did not enjoy the bottomless Mimosas on this occasion, but the coffee was excellent. Absolutely a great experience.

2021-06-09A major gem in Elmira! My family was looking for a last minute Sunday brunch spot to accommodate our group and Rye did not disappoint. The decor is beautiful, the menu is classic with enough of an exciting twist, and the staff was attentive and friendly. Im looking forward to coming back for dinner and live music the next time Im upstate.Highly recommend, you dont want to miss this experience.

2022-02-09Weve been here three times since theyve open. Everytime, theres been an issue with service. We really would like to come here but they are just too unorganized. Food is good but would be better warm not cold. A positive is the atmosphere is really nice. We got there right after five and it was not busy. People who came after us got their food and paid and left before us. They also put us at this little two ft square table by the door when there was a lot of nicer available seating. I even told the waitress I didnt want to sit by the door and she shrugged and walked away. I hate leaving bad reviews and seldom do. But Im still upset.

2021-06-13Rye Bar offers a truly delightful culinary experience. Their menu has something for everyone. The atmosphere is posh, but cozy. The barroom has the best ambiance. Sometimes, you just need to treat yourself. Their Sazerac is on point!

2020-08-30Let me just start by saying in short this was AWESOME.We tried 3 deserts, ordered drinks had a variety of food and everything scored top marks. The prickletini was surprisingly tasty and balanced flavor wise. I ordered a coke with cherries since they dont have cherry coke on the fountain. They have these super fancy dark red cherries that were... borderline mind blowing given I was expecting maraschino cherries.I had the ridiculous grilled cheese bacon cheese burger. I ordered medium and they landed that on the button which even specialty burger joints somehow mess up. The grilled cheese was pretty perfect seemed like cheddar and American in there. The burger actually had flavor from the meat, you could tell it was premium (they walked the talk found on the menu) the bacon was generously applied as well. Great burger. Even the fries were better than average by a good margin.I didnt actually get to try the fish fry (burger was massive so...) the 2 people who ordered it were thrilled with it.Buddy ordered the spaghetti dinner. I think this was the only one that wasnt enormously exciting mainly due to the portion size. In comparison to the other dishes serves and the prices considered the portion felt light hard to hit that right but thats what the thought was.On to dessert! The raspberry cheesecake was a hit. The ginger cake had actual ginger in it which elevated the flavor experience. As for the Crème brûlée... it was the best Ive had in quite some time. We recently had some in ithaca that was less than exciting since whomever prepared it burned the caramelized top. That was not the case here the custard was great and the top was just right. Well done 👏.Finally the wait staff was attentive and present. The restaurant was slammed and things took a little while, with good company, good music and full drinks it was enjoyable none the less! They have an extensive liquor selection. I didnt check out the beer or wine list but they had both available. Oh and they offer boozey milkshakes so. Thats a win and a reason to visit again when Im allowed to drink😅
