The most overrated library there is. Im not a fan of the staff at all. Theyre very snobby, plus they like to abuse power.I also think they have gotten progressively worse since the lockdown (and I know Im not the only person who shares that opinion). Its not a friendly atmosphere. I encourage anyone to avoid this library as there are better options to choose from
If you are trying to study, and are using the Quiet Area, good luck. I am convinced there are employees hired simply to go in and out of doors throughout the day. It is a non stop, endless merry go round of library employees exiting one door, and entering another. This is incredibly distracting to someone attempting to concentrate when this is occurring non stop, and so frequently. This may seem like a petty complaint, but try studying when heavy doors are opening and closing non stop- one after another after another. Its really irritating and super distracting. I guess, for them, there is no real resolve, but then why situate a quiet area where there is so much employee traffic throughout the day?
The library has so much to offer. So many programs for children, teens and adults. Beautiful outdoor garden. So many places to sit down, relax, read a good book. Nice cafe with awesome coffee and snacks. The teen room is perfect for teens - there is so much they can do . The staff for the most part are so friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. I love this library!
My family and I absolutely LOVE the Sachem Library, and for so many reasons. It provides an educational setting and comfortable for my kids in their newly renovated Childrens area. The computers and open craft table area allow them to use their imagination and be creative. My children enjoy the outdoor garden area - where we take nice walks, utilize the nature kits bags offered to explore the outdoor environment. The kids love picking out their own books and videos, and my son loves asking the librarians to help him find books on certain topics. The librarians are truly wonderful, and seem to know a lot of the children on a first name basis from their frequency there. The library offers a great variety of programs for both children and adults, including performances, art classes, hands on musical and even animal shows, and we especially enjoy the Library Museum Adventures! We LOVE SPL!
I’m a college student who needed help finding an assigned book for my class . The phone was answered immediately . The minute they picked up the phone I was greeted in such a lovely way !! The ladies at the front desk were great they directed me to Bernadette . She was such a sweet , kind , patient , proffesional women!!! She was so helpful she helped me find my book , she answered every question I had , and stayed as sweet and patient as she was !!! Great team , professional people , great atmosphere ! Being a college student is as stressful and overwhelming on it’s own especially when you don’t have the tools you need or can afford. but this library and these people want you to succeed and do everything in their power to help you !! Thank you again so much for the help ladies :) !!
Winner of Best Library on L.I. FIVE years running! All the media youd expect (books, magazines, audio, huge movie selection), plus showings of current movies, multiple classes including computers, 3D printers, yoga. Live music and theatrical performances, outdoor events in their lovely gardens, and a nice cafe adjacent to the large comfy-chair reading area.Long Islanders have declared Sachem Public Library the Best Public Library. So much more than a collection of literature, a library is a sanctuary of knowledge and an incubator for the imagination. A library is that special, special place where you can lose yourself in any number of realms within the divine pages of a book, and just as quickly, discover yourself again, alive and anew and somehow, much stronger and more alive, for that matter—overall, the library is a place to enlighten the soul. Sachem Public Library offers a variety of experiences for area residents that bring the community together to expand their minds and nurture their spirits.Accept no substitutes.
Sachem Library is excellent. The changes I have seen are all for the better and the people who work there (for the most part) are helpful and knowledgeable.I worked at Sachem Library for many years, in the Childrens section, and loved every moment! Keep up the good work!
I would say the best public library in NY or even America,The place look small from the outside but it is a gigantic and clean environment, whenever I check out a book at the front desk the staff are so friendly and nice!If you are moving to Holbrook or Long Island Go to the Sachem Public Library! You can do so many unique things there! In the teen section (also the best place in the library) has so many events! They also have computers,iPads,tablets,PS4,xbox360 and XboxOne.And on some Fridays they let you play on the Nintendo switch!(just so you know Nintendo switch are so expensive($355 if it is on sale and $500 for the full price including $60 games)So they put lots of effort making this such a good place and community, they even have moving robotics! And they have a cafe, kids section, and adult section.I highly recommend checking this wonderful place out!
Do not go to the Studio unless you want your project design stolen by the people working there.....I made a project design iv been working on , and spent thousands of dollars on it...i asked them if my design was safe with them to make the prototype there and they said yes...only to find out months later an employee(ALEX) was selling my product there....how stupid can you be...if you are going to steal someones work...dont sell it at the place you stole it from.....When I called them out on the problem and spoke to management , they blew it off like it was a misunderstanding...(no you cannot accidently 3d print something!..and when Alex was asked about it (by my friend who he didnt know) he said Yeah its cool and if you want to buy it ..its for sale , we are selling them for 5 dollars)...umm yeah not a misunderstanding! ....We are not deff or blind ...dont piss us and say its raining! Then to top it off....instead of fixing the problem with the service they made it worse by charging double the price on an order I had put in already ...they also did a crappy job on it and only produced 2 thirds of what was ordered....thats like if you are getting your car serviced at a shop and they tell you ...yeah labor was twice as much because we had someone working on it that didnt know what they were doing.....and oh yeah you bought 4 tires but 1 and a half are missing....hmm where did they go?.......very very bad business practices! Disappointing is an Understatement ...id give the Sachem Public Library a 0 rateing if i could!

2022-05-28Some of the staff are friendly and helpful, some are anti-social and unhelpful. They seem to be sacrificing their book section for other things. It could be much better.

2021-08-02I Love this library. I have been coming here ever since I was 16 and moved to this town. It is really clean and provide access to stable computers and other thingsHowever, It is hard to study in the silent area. There are always library employees or people walking in and out of those two doors and having Loud conversations. It is hard to focus and makes no sense to place the silent study tables in this section of the library.

2021-08-08I have taken classes in this library but I have just begun to utilize their resources and I am so glad I did. After spending a fortune at the UPS store and Staples, I was delighted to see how kind Sachem is to those with a library card. The associates were helpful, friendly, and a pleasure to work with. From printing documents to faxing important papers, the Sachem Public Library made it all possible. Aside from the person throwing up in the bathroom (reminder to not sit close to the restrooms next time,) all went well. I mentioned the puking person to the computer desk employees as well as to the security guard. I am also a licensed security guard but do not work for the library so I passed the information along to the appropriate party. I did ask the puking person to put on a mask rather than coughing throughout the library. The computer section was spaced out well and there are plenty of seats to choose from (just dont sit near the bathrooms.) I look forward to seeing all of the wonderful things that this library has to offer.

2020-12-02I’ve recently had a bad experience with one of the ladies from the technology center. I was yelled at for grabbing a guest pass for one of the computers without asking for it. I was not aware there was a policy against this, but the employee (Karen) took it upon herself to raise her voice in an unprofessional manner. My issue is not with the policy; my issue is simply with how she went about it. She made a spectacle out of the situation by raising her voice and scalding me to the point where everyone in the room turned their head. She seems to forget that I’m the patron and she’s on the clock. It was very disrespectful on her behalf. In no workplace should that behavior be tolerated. She could have very easily approached me in a mature way and addressed her issue properly, but I guess in her head she’s entitled to talk to me like I’m a child in front of people. Its unbelievable. Also, aren’t there rules against people raising their voice in a library? Or does that not apply to the staff in this place. I can’t say I’m too surprised, because I’ve heard from a couple of sources that she is not very nice to people in general. I only hope that Sachem Public Library does not condone this type of behavior with their staff. Perhaps they should take lessons from the Connetquot library and learn to run a better organization. At least with them, there isn’t a double standard where the patrons feel like theyre bossed around and the staff can conduct themselves however they feel.
