Hidden Gem! don’t be fooled by the exterior front. It’s very tastefully designed inside. Cozy intimate sitting area.We ordered like 7 different dishes and we cannot fault any single one. That banh mi on the special menu is a must must order! For vegans, the beets mango summer rolls are simply refreshing and packed with freshness!Cherry on the top, Elizabeth, the waitress was such a delight! She was so appreciative and happy we were there even though we came an hour before closing. Smiles and such positivity! She deserve an award!
Came here for dinner. A bit far out of my usual path when in Manhattan so location is sort of a con but wanted to try since the chicken pho is being raved about. We tried almost everything on the dinner menu. Chicken pho was great. Usually at other places its very bland as its a Caucasian option mostly to appease blander palates but theirs is very flavorful. Beef pho is not too bad either. The rolls are delicious. Very small inside so come early if you want to try with a big group. Prices are a little higher than Chinatown but the food isnt watered down. Service is great and attentive. My only complaint is we came on their first dinner opening night and at 5:30 when they opened up but they were out of a lot of things on the menu like the tomahawk steak which we were looking forward to and the balut. Hopefully we can try again and come back although it being a little out of the way.
Went with a group of friends to this spot , my first time trying Vietnamese cuisine . It’s a small spot in Murray Hill , but they were able to cater a group of 8. From the sign outside they claim to have the best PHO, and it actually was really good . We good few appetizers and also decided to try their Special Tomahawk. That’s what I was really excited for. It was actually cooked to perfection and was paired with bore marrow. Overall the food was great . It was a great experience!!Ambiance- 8/10WiFi - Not SureService - 10/10Reservation- YesLarge Parties - Call to AskParking - Good Luck
Absolutely terrible service and attitude towards customers who order online. They missed one item, and no one picked up my phone calls. I understand that the restaurant was busy and it already passed their opening hours, but when I called today instead, they were busy defending themselves, claiming that I made it up, and blamed it all on the app. The attitude was horrible. They literally said they cared more about their dine-in customers orders, so guys, if you want to order online for pickup or delivery, good luck. Never going back
Food is good but the service is horrible. Whoever is in charge of the phones needs to learn patience. They refuse to talk to you about your order once it’s out the door whether it’s correct or not. They told me it’s rush hour lunch time and they do not have time to correct the order and hung up on me mid sentence. Only giving two stars because the chefs deserve all the stars but the staff are a complete joke.
Dropped in to get two Bánh mìs. The place was empty. Placed the order with the women at the door and she walked 15 ft to the cooking area and gave them our order. 20 MINUTES later we were told if we wanted to get our order sooner we should have tipped the women at the door who did nothing other than walk 15 feet. She didnt offer us water, or to have a seat while we waited. For service we usually tip at least 20%. She did nothing. This was take out.
I’m not sure why this place doesn’t come up in more mentions of Vietnamese food in the area. Maybe the algorithms recognize “Saigon” more than “Sai Gon”? Anyways it’s amazing. What I’ve tried (so far):- Hanoi chicken noodle soup, very light broth with perfect consistency vermicelli style noodles (rounder than the usual pho rice noodles). The combo of fish sauce/egg/Vietnamese ham and shredded chicken is great.- grilled pork chop with fried egg, lemongrass pork is a classic and their version is a delight.- pho bo (beef noodle soup), very tasty, high quality broth.- papaya salad, I prefer the Thai version a bit better (eg somtum der near LES) but this is still quite tasty.Want to try the vegan tamarind pho and chicken pho next.... check this place out if you are in midtown, you won’t be disappointed.
This location has gone through a handful of facelifts in the last few years, always as Vietnamese restaurants. The current iteration is by far the best. The lunch menu is very limited (essentially just pho and various spring rolls) but its done exceptionally well. The beef pho was fantastic; rich and flavourful broth, delicious meat, and perfect noodles. One minor complaint was how loud the air-conditioning unit was, but that could be teething issues as they are newly renovated. The price point is also very fair. It would be an improvement to see some additional lunch options, but its a great start.
Adding more: OH MY GAWD the pork chops plate is so good. Really good meats, generous portions. The sunny side up egg on top of perfect rice. The green sauce is everything. Order from here.—Go here. Slightly different than the usual beef pho broth you’re used to. More rich beef-y flavor. Garlic. Etc. very good. Def go here.
Solid Vietnamese spot for all of Manhattan. I love Vietnamese food but there are only a few spots in NYC that are above average. This is one of them and I love it. Get the papaya salad, summer rolls, shaken beef, beef or chicken pho (both are REALLY flavorful). I want to come back on a Saturday with a group of people to try the $120 Pat Lafrieda Tomahawk steak served with two bowls of pho!
Food: Lunch Special Pho + Roll- Chicken Pho> Taste: Warm, Homey broth with nice nuanced accents. Noodles and boiled chicken are light in flavor. Recommend eating followed by spoon of spoon for best flavor.> Feel: Light. I feel slightly energized, and healthy. No regrets for those watching diet. No grogginess.- Pork Summer Roll> Taste: nutty with the provided sauce; great appetizer and pairing.> Feel: A bit on the heavier side for an appetizer, but considering the lightness of the pho, the roll pairs well.Service: Great, let me stay after close while I took forever to write the review and drink water. Food came out fast (~10 for the roll and 20 mins for pho). Wait staff friendly, and accommodating.
A new addition to the Murray Hill neighborhood. This small eatery offers a small selection of pho (chicken and beef), poached chicken, and rice entrees, all set under a lively ambiance reminscent of the Vietnamese food stall on the street. Service is friendly and attentive, and the food (spring rolls and chicken pho) is likewise delicious although I would have liked it to be steaming hot.
Their shaking beef is da bomb!!! Soft tender beef chunks, refreshing water crest salad, over easy egg, and the special beef bone marrow. I popped the egg over my rice, and the meal is wonderful. OK, the bone marrow did not have much taste and is oily, buy what the hack! Have you tried one before? This is the dinner menu and is more expensive than the lunch menu. Very friendly service. Recommended.
The beef pho on its own is on the greasy side, not a fan of the soup base im afraid. I added the bone marrow as that looks interesting... with bone marrow it was extra extra greasy :(I wish I tried the chicken pho now...other than that, the crispy spring roll was excellent... and the Thai iced tea was okay... I want to give this place another go...
There was a sign outside that said best chicken pho. One word: nope. The chicken pho broth was basic, nothing to write home about. The strips of chicken was lacking, prob had like 5 small pieces. We also tried the beef pho and I thought that was much better than the chicken pho. But generally speaking, everything was average. So if you want average, feel free to stop by.As for me, I’ll continue to search.
The receptionist was very rude, he didnt believe I made the puckup order and tried to humiliate me out of no reasons. I didnt see he asked the privious white guy to show order evidence for picking up but he asked me to do so and he said he didnt believe me. This is nuts and racist
Fantastic pho!Come here to get beef pho with bone marrow and churro stick.Churro soaks up all the soup flavor and makes for a delicious treat in the pho, and bone marrow can be tasted in the soup, both decadent and satisfyingly filling. In our eyes this place de-thoned Saigon Shack as the place for pho. We will be coming back. The only downside is the place is small and carries no drinks so expect some wait times during peak hours.
Good price, delicious chicken broth and dipping sauce. We entered right near the end. Server was kind and let us in for last orders. Tried to be timely with eating so they could clean up but there was a table that was already seated that was still there when we were leaving, so 🤷♀️.
Had just the standard Pho Bo (beef) that was pretty good. I think the bone marrow on top just add some fun to a dish. What makes it a bit different from other Pho bowl is the amount of greens they put on the surface which makes it pretty appealing to me.The service was good and the food came pretty quickly.
Hard to imagine Phở as we know it ⁽ˢᵒᵘᵖ⁻ᵇᵃˢᵉᵈ⁾ has been around less than 140 years. Each and every slurp instills those ancestral feels, and yet its different in every eatery and home. Thats the true nature of this dish, giving every person a voice and allowing them to speak.⠀⠀⠀Here, the marrow-riched broth and shredded oxtail accompany the iconic bánh phở (flat rice stick noodles), with bánh quẩy (crueller) to soak up that goodness. How do you eat your phở?
Very satisfying Bun Thang/Hanoi chicken soup. Quite different from the more common pho ga/chicken pho found in most Vietnamese restaurants. A clean chicken stock with an almost floral scent - I think it’s from the addition of a kind of beetle (in Thailand it’s called mang da but I don’t know its Vietnamese name). Plus, the addition of julienned egg and sausage, along with rau ram, a delectable herb also known as Vietnamese coriander, results in a most excellent soup.
Probably the worst Pho I’ve had in the city. The people who are giving it a good review are out of their mind. The quality of the broth is awful. Could have been Campbell’s chicken noodle soup. No flavor and felt more like a Spanish chicken stew than Pho. Would not recommend.
Sai Gon Dep is a great Vietnamese addition to Murray Hill, serving a fantastic bowl of chicken pho with a flavorful clean broth topped with a lot of herbs and a raw yolk! The beef pho is also good, but I thought the chicken was better in comparison. The papaya salad and spring/summer rolls are recommended as well. The menu is fairly compact, and lunch specials are offered even on the weekends. The staff was very friendly and the hostess let me sit at a table while waiting for a friend. The space is somewhat small but cozy, and decorated with what looks like retro Vietnam tourism posters. Although Manhattan generally doesnt have the greatest selection of pho places in comparison elsewhere, we were all very satisfied with our entire meal across the board.
We ordered the lunch special there and it was a great deal! Pho, spring roll, and a thai tea... cant really top that! The chicken pho is advertised as best around town, but it didnt seem like anything spectacular; it was just alright. The beef pho was flavorful and rich. Was not anything spectacular but it was satisfying on a cold rainy afternoon. All around it was an enjoyable experience at a cute little restaraunt.
Ive had beets for the first time in my life today and Im pleased it was here. The roll was so good that I left a bit for my husband to try. The Pho was also great, Im not usually into noodles and I hadnt known what pho was but it was really good. ! Theres one chicken only mean on the menu so keep that in mind. Service was also very pleasant and chill. Place is a bit cramped but could be well maneuvered. Go eat here. !
Great service, really cute decor (super cute tabletops) but their take on pho and summer rolls is different so if youre a purist like me, you might be a bit disappointed. The broth uses different spices and ground meat instead of the traditional flank steak so maybe a different region in Vietnam than Im used to. The chicken noodle was similarly grounded and just ok. The pork summer roll was like...spam!!! But I have to say this place is so much cleaner and funkier than the previous pho restaurant and theres a constant flow of standing room only 20-somethings so maybe Im missing something. I really wanted to like it because its in my neighborhood but not sure its worth the higher prices when I just want a great big bowl of comforting pho.
I understand the chef from Hanoi House opened up this restaurant. Compared to Hanoi House, the pho was very similar and good. I think theyre more generous on the beef and marrow. The brussel sprouts were good and spicy but not crispy. The fried spring rolls were a bit underwhelming. Staff was friendly
Ive never come across a Vietnamese restaurant that boasts its chicken pho as its number one choice, so naturally I was intrigued when I passed by their chalkboard sign with that claim. The interior is small, but cozy and comfortable with bar stool counter seating and some table seating. My party and I got seated immediately, and per the waitress recommendation, all ordered chicken pho along with pork summer rolls to start. The food came out in no less than 5 minutes after we ordered. The chicken pho came steaming in these beautiful oriental white and blue ceramic bowls. One sip and I was sold! The flavor is intricate and fragrant, light but complex. It is the perfect soup for a cold rainy day, or if youre feeling under the weather. The chicken was tender, and came with a spicy dipping sauce on the side. The noodles were chewy, and the portion size was good (on the pricier side though). The cured pork summer roll was delicious too--refreshing, served with hoisin sauce on the side. Our waitress was kind enough to bring us a small cup of the beef broth to try as well! And confirmed for me that the chicken pho was indeed better than their beef. Will definitely be craving this in a few months!
Beautiful restaurant with many two tops, outstanding pork summer rolls (crispy texture maintained), best pho in midtown east. No take out. Chicken/marrow pho and rolls-based appetizer for $15 was a great combo. I got the chicken pho on my first visit and was a bit disappointed by the chicken (boneless); given its overcooked stringyness, I would prefer some juicy sous vide chicken (though less authentic) or chicken with bones as I noted in one of the restaurant’s Yelp photos! Will come back to try the beef pho; not overly crowded yet during lunch time.
The Mrs and I ordered the beef pho. Shes Vietnamese and says it isnt traditional pho. I believe it somewhat had a garlic flavor to it. I couldnt really put my finger on it. Nonetheless, it was really tasty and delicious. The brisket was super tender and tore apart pretty easily. Our server was really nice and attentive also. Would definitely return!
Tiny little pho place. Overall the food is ok, but I wouldnt come back unless for special reason.Everything has heavily buttery flavor, so I felt very oily after the meal. Ordered the brussel sprouts, it was definitely cooked in butter, cause thats all u will taste. Ordered the pho, the flavor is pretty good, but not sure if it was worth the price tag. Also had the beef on rice dish. It was good but nothing amazing.
So I dont know about this place pre pandemic but during this time of the pandemic Im trying to help out local business so I decided to give this place a shot because of the good reviews and pictures. So I ordered at 1:40pm on the weekend and they were out of pork(1 strike) so I decided to place my order or 2 dishes with beef being the protein. After I paid and signed the staff comes back out and says there is not enough beef for both dishes and would substitute with another protein (2 strike) not that I have a choice cause I already paid. After getting the food and taking a look at the dishes. Omg it is so small. Enough maybe to feed a family of half a person. The been fish had 6 little cubes and the other dish that they substituted shrimp had 3 baby shrimps. I cant believe what I ordered and had to eat. Never will I go back to this place. I just hope maybe its because this place has been closed during pandemic that the chef maybe forgot how to make the dish or something.
Ive been here twice, got chicken pho both times and loved it! I normally dont order chicken pho when I eat out because the broth and the meat are quite bland compare to beef pho, but this place is an exception. The chicken pho here has very flavorful, rich broth and the meat is better than in many other pho places because its cage free chicken. (I just wish they had chicken thigh option because Im not a huge fan of chicken breast.) The summer rolls there are also delicious. The spring rolls are a little more salty than I would like but its still good overall. Will definitely come back!#chickenpho #nycfood #vietnamesefood #asianrestaurant
Their broth tastes like genuine southern Vietnam Pho broth. A little sweet and oily. The soup is topped with coriander, scallion and thinly sliced onions. Beef topping was soft and mire like char siu meets pho broth. They weren’t thin slices but they were tasty.Spring rolls were also like the ones you get in Vietnam- thin, nice and crunchy. I did think two slim rolls for $8 was a bit pricy. Should give more like 4. They’re not difficult or expensive to make.Dessert was okay. Basic ice cream with coffee - didn’t taste the condensed milk.Ambience was nice- it’s cheerful and vibrant. It was actually cozy and nice to be there. Ventilation could be improved. Someone ordered pork chops and the entire restaurant - and our clothes- smelled of smoky chops which was not so nice. Service was okay. Server a little cranky but alright.
Wow one of the best spots Ive been to so far in the city! And given it wasnt packed inside, Id say I found myself a little gem in Murray HillInside is quaint and cozy with bright colored tables and accents on the wallI ordered the special beef pho (comes with bone marrow and cueller which I didnt know of in English but its you tiao for those who understand Chinese). After seeing all the photos with the giant bone I was immensely excited and I was not disappointed!! The bone marrow itself was melt in your mouth, the cueller reminded me of my childhood and the pho broth was rich and had a flavor that stood on its own (usually I have to add a good amount of sriracha and oyster sauce but I didnt feel that this time). Also I loved the touch of fried garlic in the soup, it added a unique flavorIn total paid around $30 - while not a steal, I do feel the pho was special enough to be a treat yoself meal
The tastiest pho Ive ever had, probably because of the slight garlic or onion flavor(dont really know what) in the beef broth. The roll that comes with the combo is great as well. Cant comment on the speed of service since I went there for a late lunch and I am the only one there.
I had the Pho Ga (Chicken) which was quite tasty but was a little light on veggies. I had it to go so was unable to ask for alternatives (so no fault to the restaurant). Although it was tasty, it lacked the authentic flavor and I feel this was made for the American pallet. There was no fish sauce or chopped chili, but instead a spicy ginger-like salad dressing.
Surpassed all expectations - this pho was literally unlike any other pho Ive ever had before. People usually talk about depth of flavor and Ive never really gotten what they mean until I had this pho.The flavor of the pho here actually changes and develops as you drink it making for a very satisfying and delicious meal. Overall I highly recommend coming here as it was cheap and beyond amazing.
Hands down one of the best pho ever. Comes very close to my mom’s homemade pho. The beef is my favorite - treat yourself and get the bone marrow with it. I literally recommend this place to everyone! Beware though.. once you eat here every other pho place will never live up to it.
For a restaurant that sells food thats prepared ahead of time for the most part, sai gon dep takes a painfully long time to serve the most commonly ordered dishes. I got the pho which took over 45 minutes, and the crispy rolls which took 30 minutes. Downtime between waiting for water/condiments/check from the waiter added another 20 minutes without exaggeration. Also a side note that they dont have jalapenos. With all that said, the lunch special is honestly a steal - $15 for a main, one roll, and a drink. However, the pho is just fine and the vermicelli bowl was small and bland. Regardless, I dont see myself going out of my way to come here unless I happen to be right on the block during lunch special hours or they figure their staffing/food prep woes.
Ordered a delivery via DoorDash. The food was delivered much faster than I expected (in 20-25 min?), and the beef pho was REALLY DELICIOUS (great healthy taste, generous portion, and clean)!!! I will definitely order again from this restaurant. Very happy that I found a decent Vietnamese place near me!
I popped in quickly to try the chicken pho the other night. The space was buzzing and loud on a Wednesday night. The room is narrow but nicely appointed with colorful wallpaper. I sat at the counter which seemed very narrow. a little like I was at the kids table because the counter seemed a little high for the stool I was sitting on.The chicken pho was good, not great or more-ish. I thought that the soup stock lacked depth of flavor and the ginger dipping sauce wasnt that interesting. The chicken was beautifully tender. I would like to go back and try other things with a group. Its pricey for Vietnamese food but its a more expensive neighborhood and they claim to be using higher quality ingredients so that makes sense.
Sai Gon Dep is Viet restaurant in Murray hill. The creative dishes were superb and such high quality for a pho restaurant. The service was excellent. The music was fun and had great beats. The space is small, so call ahead if youre coming with a big group. We had dinner with a group of friends there during a weeknight. We shared the following:Crispy Fried Spring Rolls- ground pork with wood ear, mung bean noodles, carrot, onions with hoisin peanut sauce. This was a solid classic spring roll.Pork Summer Rolls- grilled pork with mango, carrots, lettuce and cucumber. I loved the mango and the blend of textures. There was a rolled wonton skin that was deep fried; it was stuck inside the roll to offer a crunch to contrast the crisp vegetables and mango. I loved the textures of this summer roll!Beets and mango summer roll (vegan roll)- beets, mango,, lettuce, mint roll. I loved the textures of this roll. It was so refreshing! It was so pretty and was really tasty.Beef Pho- This was wonderful! I loved the beefy clear broth. The pho comes with bean sprouts, mint, sauces, rice noodles. The star of the show: 60 day dry aged tomahawk steak with beef pho. It was soft medium rare juicy semi fatty tomahawk steak. I loved it! It accompanied the beef pho so well. Beef with beef. The tomahawk steak comes with two bone marrows and sauce. I loved spreading the bone marrow on the crullers, then dipping into the sauce.Everyone oohed and aahed over the steak. It was so decadent to eat in a pho shop.Off menu items:Fried soft shell crab salad- this was amazing! The crab was crispy, the watercress and tomato salad was dressed with fish sauce and vinaigrette that was so refreshing! One of my friends liked the salad more than the crab! I loved both!Mussels- this was served with a coconut curry sauce and topped with Youtiao (Chinese Cruller). This was one of my favorite dishes! I loved the spicy sweet savory sauce with the mussels. And dipping the fried cruller into the mussel sauce was heavenly!Banh Mi with steak with beef broth dip- The beef broth was the same soup base for the pho. It was the best Banh Mi that Ive ever had! The beef sandwich was savory, spicy on crispy baguette. The beef broth was perfect! It was better than the Chicago Italian dip sandwiches that weve had. This was a crowd pleaser!I would def return for the Bahn Mi, Mussels, Beef Pho and Crab salad!
Excellent spot in Murray Hill. Used to be a different vietnamese place (@The Spot), but this is much better. Great depth of flavor in the oxtail pho, will definitely be coming back. Pricing is a bit higher than other pho places in Manhattan, but quality justifies it. Excited to try the other things on their menu in the future!
I am sorry but this is true. I walked all the way from 29th Street to get that Vietnamese sandwich, which I used to get years ago and the sandwich is not the same quality. Also got bone merrow and when I got to my office I realized they just gave me a bone. I was wondering where did the merrow go!
Big fan. Brings me back to the times of eating pho in HCMC, Vietnam. Flavourful chicken pho is steaming hot from the kitchen with perfectly cooked pieces of chicken. Servers were quick and friendly which added to the simple setting. This will likely be our go to place for pho.
The summer roll was interesting and we enjoyed it very much. Delicious pho- good and hearty broth; noodles were perfectly cooked. We tried both the chicken pho and the beef pho and were really surprised at how good it was. -Albeit being a little pricy... it was definitely worth it.
When I asked local acquaintances in New York for recommendations on New York restaurants, they both recommended this place. No matter how much I thought they would recommend steak or pizza if I came to New York, I was dubious about Vietnamese rice noodles, but I went there when I was craving Korean food. Of course, I cant say that I fell in love with the first bite, but after eating it, I was very satisfied. I also want to recommend this house to anyone who comes to New York. The beef bone noodle soup is a bit pricey, but it is delicious. I recommend it.

2022-06-14Shout out to Raul!I am an old fan since 2018. Always recommend this place to my UN colleagues and they love it! It small but delicate and decent.Special shout out to the cute waiter Raul! He is super friendly, helpful and passionate ~ Raul knows well about this restaurant and introduce us about the 26hrs- broth. 2022-06-04The place is pretty small and dark. They also charge for additional condiments/sauce (if you order lime, chili, etc for $0.5 each!!)Food rating:1. Beef pho - 3.5/5 soup was good, portion was decent, meat was very hard to chew2. Shrimp vermicelli - 4/5 great shrimp! The shrimp was cooked in a way that it absorbed the sauce to its core!Highly recommend ordering this one.3. Papaya salad - 3/54. Softshell crab salad - 3.5/5

2022-04-21I came here in Dec 2020 when restaurants were limited and we had the entire place to ourselves. So obviously service was on point 😁. Very delicious Pho especially the bone barrow option. All appetizers we had were also great. No complaints here.

2021-12-22One of the best pho places I have ever been to. I always go for the classic beef for soup. The flavor is amazing. And the meat is very tender. I wish they had more noodles in the soup for the price, but the portion is enough for most people.

2022-08-07Nice little pho spot on the East Side. I had the pork summer rolls and chicken pho, their specialty. The rolls were fresh and flavorful. The pho had nice pieces of chicken and an egg yolk on top which added some nice richness. I did find the condiments a little lacking - where are the chopped chiles and culantro? Overall decent though if you’re in the neighborhood.

2022-04-25The phos are rlly great and the waiter was rlly nice but it seemed like she was super busy bc it was only her working. But they charge you for ANYTHING extra. Sriracha sauce, bean sprouts, etc are all charged and they rlly give you a tiny amount to begin with.

2021-10-21All around great food. Price and portions are reasonable for the quality of food. Can get a variety of add-ins to the pho like extra noodles or meat. Bone marrow was fantastic. The pork spring rolls have a crunchy texture and are packed well. Highly suggest if youre in the area.

2022-06-13Don’t let those scaffoldings hide this gem Vietnamese go-to place from you. House special pho highly recommended!

2021-12-04We ordered the chicken pho, beef pho, vermicelli pork. Pho was ok. Vermicelli pork is really bad. The beet and papaya are plain without any flavor. The pork is dry and no flavor. We asked for extra bean sprouts. We were told it cost 50 cent extra but at the end it was 2 dollar. It is really overpriced for bean sprouts. Not recommend

2021-07-19Great chicken pho for a really good price. The broth is hearty but not too oily. They add a raw egg yolk though - I probably could have done without this.
