Salinas in other cities:
Came here for dinner Friday night. We ate in the garden room which I would highly recommend! We shared everything: patatas bravas, croquetas, chicken and the rice dish with vegetables. Everything was amazing, its hard to pick a favorite. The white sangria which was also delicious. The croquetas of the day were steak, spinach and blue cheese which was a unique combination that I hadn’t had before but might have been the best croquetas I’ve had and we almost always get the croquetas at a tapas restaurant. Our waiter was also very friendly! 10/10 would recommend!
Many tapas options, some of which we had to repeat because they were so good. Cocktail choices were interesting and unique. Atmosphere was fabulous and so is the music. They have an outdoor garden which will be beautiful when they can open up the glass roof in better weather. Prices are a bit expensive but we feel that this place is worth it and we will return.
Upon arrival I was not too impressed with the exterior, but walk in side and - wow! - the place is great! Tapas and sangria were both excellent. We had the steak, the cauliflower and the octopus. all were great (octopus was so tender and good but also most expensive so if only did 2, would be the other 2). Highly recommend!!
My wife, cousins, and myself just left this restaurant and we can not stop talking about Salinas! Everything was amazing. From the service to the food! Our server Eddy/Eddie was so patient with us and was a star! We had about 9 plates between our group and everything was incredible.
Had higher expectations, but maybe it was an off night. I went there for dinner on a Friday night with a friend and we were rushed the entire time with multiple waiters asking to take our dishes before we were done. The ambiance is great for an Intimate date night, and there were delicious wines but the food was overly salted.
The best authentic Spanish food in town. I never thought that croquettes will be so delicious. But not just that I’m sure that everything you order at this 5 starts restaurant will be authentic and delicious. Me and my boyfriend we are coming back in our next trip to New York City.
The Decor, ambiance and over all experience was something I have yet to be topped in a NYC restaurant . Salinas promises a good meal and delivers a great one. The staff was all so charming and the food was out of this world. I would recommend this restaurant to any family or friend or beyond . Thank you Salinas for the experience !!!
Denied our table reservation because not every person was present….. yet.*Warning* EVERY MEMBER of your reservation party must be present within ten minutes or you will lose your dinner reservation!!! Our entire reservation was present at the bar, missing one friend who was still arriving. We were not allowed to sit at reserved table until the entire reservation was present? The “late” friend was 11 minutes late. The rude hostess told our entire party that we were now on the waitlist to receive a table. This is because ONE member of the reserved party was ONE minute late to the “grace period.”We had already ordered drinks at the bar, therefore we’re stuck here. 5 minutes later, the rude hostess approaches and informs our party to sit in the bar area (losing the special reservation in the garden). We were also given a time limit of 40 minutes. We witnessed the rude hostess being friendlier to other “late” reservations. We felt profiled.During the duration of the stay, we felt rushed and uncomfortable. Tapas are hardly vegetarian/vegan friendly as well. Go somewhere else!
Great experience! There were 4 of us to celebrate a birthday and the place is stunning. Its a great layout where they have small rooms with a few tables, a room with a bar and then also a back room with more seating. With the fresh flowers and the wonderful layout, this makes a great date night romantic dinner place. The cocktails were very good and the food was amazing. Such great options and creativity by the chef. The pulpo (octopus) was phenomenal and so were the sardines, oh they were so good!So were the branzino and the Iberico rice dish!Cant wait to go back!
A terrific meal from start to finish. The comandante cocktail was one of the best I’ve ever had, and I could have eaten the cauliflower all day (and I don’t even like cauliflower). The entrana steak was very well cooked — but the star of the meal had to be their burnt cheesecake. That was the best cheesecake I’ve ever had in my life. Period. I cannot wait to come here again!
Love the environment here so much! So romantic! I enjoyed celebrating with my boyfriend here. The food is good but not outstanding. However, I care the atmosphere and decorations more than the food itself. One waitress girl is super friendly and helped us take wonderful pictures! I recommended to a lot of friends~
Great Christmas Eve experience! The foods are all great, especially their appitizer, every dish was great with creative design. We could not handel very salty food and the the chef take care of it well, with good savory level. The waiter is nice and gentel provide us detailed explanation about the dishes. Love the romantic automosphere and the gorgeous roses. Highly recommend for special occasions.
Came here with my partner for her birthday. The soft shell crab pasta dish was excellent. The croquettes rocked. The desserts were to die for, the bravas were so good. The fried calamari with squid in was delicious. This tapas place has it together. Everything is so good. Worth the prices.
Salinas was a happy accident, after I got kicked out of Gin Bathtub next door. I traded a C+ crowd for an A crowd, including Tears for Fears, and Billy Idol (yes, both acts are still around) music producers. The crowd was approachable, chic, and well - dressed, but not pretentious. The food was amazing! How come Id never heard of this before, unlike my well - connected guest, who had? The service was on par with the food. $$$ - $$$$ out of $$$$$ The bathroom was clean. The establishment is handicable, and wheelchair friendly. Couldnt be happier - well maybe sitting by the fireplace. WARNING: 15 MINUTE HOLD TIME FOR A TABLE. Show up on minute 16, and youll be booted, so arrive on time!
Disaster from start to finish. To call staff rude is an understatement, hostile and aggressive is more accurate. If you are looking to be insulted while you pay 2-3x average current market price for mediocre food, fishy rice plopped into a cast iron pan w/ 4 shrimp & called paella, and sugary sweet sangria, while seated at a sticky table top in a “garden”, while the clock is ticking on the 70 minutes you have been told to eat and get out, then my god, THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU.Please note that most of the 4-5 star ratings here are from years ago. We had a 6:30 Resy reservation celebrating a post-pandemic reunion with a dear friend. It was difficult getting a cab so we were 10 minutes late (& had called to apologize), but waiter didn’t even take our order until 7, by 7:55 the same incredibly rude woman who received us came by to tell us we had to leave by 8. (We asked to speak to the manager, and she said she WAS the manager without giving us her name). Which, looking back through the reviews on google, seems a long standing theme. The reviews on Resy average 4.8 stars, and I’m guessing this is because Salinas does not send review links to customers like me who are not happy (they deleted my reservation after seating us). I am not one to go out of my way to be publicly negative, but this was such a special occasion and they were repeatedly and consistently just awful. Go to Socarrat or Tia Pol, both in Chelsea and SO MUCH BETTER AND PLEASANT.
The ambiance fits perfectly with the place and it is so cozy. The service was great, all the staff was really nice. The food was AMAZING, I haven’t found a real Spaniard restaurant in NYC, it was delightful!!.I strongly recommend the Paella, it was the best dish!!!The only thing that it was over priced was the fish of the day (branzino that day), the portion is too small for the price, it was delicious as well. You must come to this place!
I have been here for twice cause Im finding the best paella in NYC, unfortunately, they only service paella on Sunday so I havent eaten my paella yet and its the only reason I gave 4 stars. Its a Michelle restaurant and I didnt realize it on the first time but totally not surprised of it because this restaurant totally worth to be nominated. Great atmosphere and service, one of server serves for a long time, he can answer and explain the feature on every meal. The best best one I love, is their Shangria. No kidding, its the best Shangria in NYC so far. They have special menu everyday and I would recommend give it a try. None of their dishes would disappoint you.
Excellent. Ambiance is not typical Spanish but it is very romantic. The food is exceptional. I sat at the bar and had the filetito with the Dido wine. Theres something to be said about a place whose bar menu is better than the main menu at other places. Tried it before deciding on where Id take my wife for Valentines day and this will be my choice. Definitely recommend. *Updating my review after Valentines day* This place did not disappoint. Definitely a must if you want to impress that special someone. The bartender remembered my face from the previous visit and was very accommodating. My wife enjoyed the food and was very happy that she got to dress up, as this place definitely attracts a more sophisticated crowd.
This is a unique, exquisite place! The door makes it seem quite exclusive, the ambiance is every bit romantic, with imported roses, beautiful lighting and displays and comfortable, soft seating. That being said, there were plenty of groups of friends filing tables. The menu is small but extremely specialized and the food is interesting, surprising and delicious! Even the desserts are fantastic and mouth-watering! Definitely fare you would not easily found at other establishments. The wait staff is attentive with out being overbearing, and the colorful ties are a nice touch! If you need to impress someone or treat someone to an amazing night out, this is the place to go! I made a reservation for late on a Sunday night with OpenTable, we received a large corner table with a lovely view very close to our reservation time.
Salinas is located in the Chelsea area of Manhattan. Located just a few blocks from The Chelsea Market on 14th Street. Salinas is has an intimate setting. It is on the smaller scale & very cozy. I loved how the lights were very dim & overall dark. Salinas is popular for dinning alone, but they can surely accommodate a large party. The restroom only has one stall, so be prepared to wait if you are visiting on a high peak day /hour. There is fire place all the way in the back, so if you do not want to sweat your makeup off or have sweaty underarms, make sure to dress accordingly. However, the fireplace is a beautiful touch! So the food and Service at Salinas - I was at Salinas in Dec, the service was phenomenal & EVERYTHING on the food menu and in the photos was DELISH. My favorite food was the branzino. Hope this helps!
A hidden Spanish gem. Romantic place with red roses and red sangria, dim light and warm wood, glamour vibe and jazzy music. The sangria - which comes with a wine ice cube - and the cocktails are solid. The food is delicious. Dont leave without trying the popcorn crusted octopus. The patatas bravas is a staple. And of course get the arroz (rice)!
Sustainability: would like to see more effort. ✅ only gives straws upon request ❌ non-biodegradable straws or napkins.Drinks: really great menu. Had 2 mescal drinks, both of which were very tasty.Service: attentive and knowledgeable bartenders who know how to make a good drink.Value: very expensive, especially for the size and strength of the drinks💲💲💲Ambiance: very warm orange and brown color scheme, candlelit bar and dining experience.I want to see more on the sustainability front. Very upscale and not sure the cocktails are worth $18. But I could see myself going back.
Beautiful low key spot with a great ambiance. Very nice place for a romantic date. Seati g in the front of this resturant is very nice so you can get a indoor/outdoor feel but if seated in the rear its a much more romantic feel. They also have seating outdoor in the back of the restuarant. 👍
We visited this restaurant 5-6 years ago. The food and ambiance were great, so we returned yesterday for my birthday. What a disappointment!.The place has been transformed after the pandemia with sitting booths all over, which are very small and uncomfortable. The place is very dark and gloomy. The waiter was very busy taking care of many tables and spent limited time with us. Lastly, the menu is now fixed without new choices, and the description of several items didnt match what we received at the table. The food was of limited quality, including the deserts, which felt as if they were microwaved. We will not return to this restaurant and will not recommend it. 😒
I have had a poor experience at this place. We booked on Resy and arrived and they said they couldn’t see our booking; without any investigation they immediately and intuitively accused us for forgetting to confirm; we showed our confirmation text and they said it must had been that we didn’t confirm on time; we then showed them our text message time and they switched to blaming that the Resy system cancelled it so there’s nothing they could do. Isnt it ridiculous that the minute we entered a restaurant we were standing there getting questioned and blamed as if we’ve done something wrong? We then were asked to sit and order first at bar and promised would be moved to a table when any opening poped up. We waited for an hour or so and ordered and then went out to check if there’s any no-shows. We literally saw three people just walked by and asked if they had table for walk-in and got seated. We asked why they had table for walk in but didn’t seat us and they said it was because they were three people and we were only two and the table could only be seated for three people. Srsly? Later when the food came we went out to check last time for availability and the supervisor simply started laying by saying everyone had reservations and they hadn’t accommodated any walkins. They were super impatient, impolite, and condescending, cutting us off and not offering any help or service. We ended up having our dinner at bar. If you didn’t intend to seat us first place you shouldn’t have asked us to wait at bar and order. Please be prepared to be treated rudely as if they are doing you a mercy by allowing you in if you want to visit this place.
One of the best Spanish restaurants in NYC, especially if you want to celebrate something special. Don’t expect the typical tapas in a wooden dish, this is more sophisticated and you can tell the chef is from San Sebastián because the food is outstanding. We didn’t have a reservation but the hostess was very kind and invited us to go to the bar and grab a seat. She came to see us a few times just to check how we were doing and after 20mim they offered us a table which we politely rejected because we like the bar. There we had a great time thanks to Daniel, who was extremely nice and attentive and made the experience 100% enjoyable. We tried the croquettes, the artichokes and the pulpo which was deserving a Michelin Star on its own. For dessert try the cuajada with the patxaran gel and a glass of “crema de Orujo”. We will go back for sure to try their fresh fish and many other dishes in the lovely open patio they have at the back
This is a wonderful restaurant for date night or a few close friends. The ambiance is near perfect (good lighting, not too noisy). I especially like the booth seats. It makes for a more intimate experience. My date and I had the grilled octopus, artichoke hearts, arroz Vasco (seafood risotto), and sangria, all excellent The bread pudding was okay. I dont care for dry bread pudding. I like mine a little moist and dripping in rum sauce. The staff were very attentive from the time we walked in right up until we left.If you are looking for a romantic dinning experience with good drinks and delicious variety of dishes, give Salinas a try.
First time to NYC, words can’t begin to describe the phenomenal service and food at Salinas. I came for my anniversary and the wait staff was very friendly, the food was absolutely superb from the appetizers to the entree’s. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting or local.
Excellent. The restaurant is not the typical traditional Spanish but it’s great. One factor that for me is really important is the ambiance of the restaurant itself. ... The high quality of the food was at the level of the atmosphere of the place. We will definitely come back!By the way, the Crema de Orujo is a must!
Had a reservation for 4 and arrived on time. They set up a table in a booth which should have accommodated us. Unfortunately they stuck an oversized table into the booth so is a person sits on one side, there is only 6 inches left on the opposite side. My wife went over to the hostess and described the issue. The hostess did not bother to even look, she just said that they had nothing else for us. We mentioned that there was another table vacant in the dining room - she said that that table was for 6 not 4 and walked away.We have been to Salinas on a couple of other occasions and can honestly say that the main attraction is the décor and coziness. If you want good service or you have more than two in your party, do not risk your night out on Salinas - we never will again.
First upscale restaurant I ever took my wife to. It became my favorite restaurant since then because of their incredible Paella. Although they’re Paella menu options have changed over the years, it’s still my favorite place to go for it. I recommend going at least once.
Very busy. Long wait even with reservations but the owner was very nice and appropriately apologetic. The food was well worth the wait, the drinks also amazing. Very nice wine list. The garden room was beautiful with a glass top ceiling even in the rain was beautiful.
I’ve lived in NYC for over 5 years and I can confidently say the “garden” at Salinas has the best vibes of any restaurant I’ve been too. The authentic tapas are tremendous here as well making this a perfect place to share small plates with a date or a group of friends. We will continue to come back here time and time again!
I believe the tapas and food to be mediocre. We ordered pretty much everything. The cauliflower, crispy artichoke hearts, grilled eggplant, arroz de verduras, cheeseburger, sea bass, and finally, the burnt cheesecake. There were some hits, the hamburger was good (but you cant really get burgers wrong), cauliflower was great with the greek yogurt. Sea bass was actually quite good and really well seasoned with peas and favas. Id recommend ordering the entrees as the tapas (I know theyre meant to be small) are a bit underwhelming. However, good wine and espresso and service is average.
The biggest liability of this good, but not amazing restaurant, is their manager/door person Amanda. Her despicable, mean spirited attitude and overall rudeness will probably ruin your experience. She will go to lengths doing everything she can to destroy the clients experience with her rudeness and total lack of people skills, or hospitality skills for that matter. Or overall interest in her job, which is to accommodate paying clients. Its unclear why a sort of known restaurant choses to have a mean spirited, unhappy person as the one dealing with clients at arrival. If they come to their senses and let her go, maybe its worth a try again. Maybe. But not before
Food was great along with our waiter. However after paying the bill we had another waiter run after my husband and I assuming we didnt pay our bill. We were shocked by his accusations. It may have been a race thing, as we were the only African Americans in the restuarant.
First time here, the people running the reservations are not accommodating but they are nice for what it is. I missed my reservation time due to low blood sugar on the way in, and called letting them know I would be 10-20 minutes late-they told me they would only hold a table for 15 minutes and they did. When we gout there we were sat at the bar with was nice for what it was. We were then seated about 15-20 minutes after, which was nice. The atmosphere here is nice for a date or an occasion with 2-5 people total. The food her was delicious add the portions are decent. The dessert here though is lacking in selection and creativity. Surely worth a few visits. Also check out the amazing roses they import!
This review is for the god awful manager, Amanda. I called weeks in advance of my reservation to book a table in the garden section. On May 3rd, I was told there was availability for May 20th in the garden. I called on the 20th to confirm since the reservation was for me taking my boss out for dinner. Amanda told me they couldnt guarantee anything but would try to accommodate. I said I didnt understand given that they said they had availability as of the 3rd. On the night of the reservation (5/20) at 6.45 pm I arrived early to check the spot and plead for a garden table. Amanda showed me the garden table and another table as options. When my boss arrived, Amanda gave us two options but the garden table wasnt one because someone reserved it last minute (what?!!? I called on May 3rd requesting this). She was inflexible and CLEARLY going out of her way to NOT be helpful (she offered me the garden table 10 mins earlier but rescinded this offer) - and soured our whole experience. Other than power tripping, I cant understand why youd do this when I had explained that it was a dinner with my boss and that I would really appreciate a garden table. Power tripping is not a becoming trait in a restaurant manager who should be trying to help their customers. Simply because of her, I would never come back or recommend this place to anyone. My boss also had a negative experience trying to speak with her so suffice it to say her customer service is lacking. She also then cancelled my open table reservation for the night so I cant leave a review - but I definitely will.
It was last birthday I spent on for a male friend.. Food is good and small portions are inexpensive. Its a once in a lifetime that I spent on is worth it.. Its good place for people goes on a date or romantic night. Its really Spanish food and different taste than I used to my family or friends that cook Spanish homemade cook.
This was one of my favorite places when I lived in NYC. Just went back for the first time in 4 years and was not disappointed. I love that there the tables are spread out in multiple rooms so the noise level is low. I wish the cocktails and wine had some less expensive options. Also, the last time we went, they were out of the fish and the waiter didnt tell us until we ordered. But all the food is delicious!
Waited two weeks to finally dine here for me and my partner’s five year anniversary only to have my reservation canceled by the restaurant on the day of my reservation without notifying me in advance. Called within one hour of cancellation twelve times with no response and an unanswered machine, was offered no apology or other suitable options other to have my meal extremely early or late.Attached screenshot of my unanswered calls.Update: After posting this review I was immediately contacted by the restaurant to take it down because I am lying and wishing the worst for this restaurant even though they wish nothing but the best for me. I really hope they dont spontaneously cancel reservations of all diners they wish well, its a bit confusing. :)
My boyfriend took me here for my birthday. It was so lovely. The entire place was filled with flowers and candles, but had dark wooden walls with velvet couches and touches of gold decor. The ambiance was incredible. I told the bar tender the specific type of drink i was looking for and he made me a wonderful creative version. The food was delightful, everything we tried was cooked to perfection! Highly recommend! Oh and the staff was so friendly!
What an amazing restaurant. The decor definitely makes you feel like youre being part of a special occasion. Service was great from the moment we walked in until we left. The food was outstanding. I will def recommend the paella as main dish. In the tapas menu I highly recommend the croquettes and the seared tuna.
Ambience is amazing with fresh flowers everywhere, good lightnings and tables that are actually set apart so you dont hear your neighboring table conversation. Service was top notch, and the food was amazing. We had the croquettes, the charred octopus, the cauliflower, pork belly and papas bravas and everything was delicious. Yes, its expensive, but you get your moneys worth with the food quality. Would recommend, specially for special occasions where the ambience can make a difference.
What a fantastic little restaurant. Usually, these really small, intimate locations dont really do it for me because I find the menus to be so contrived and limiting, but the food was quite exceptional! The setting is beautiful and the retractable roof in the back is so quaint and unique, learning the mechanics of it was really neat!Ok, so the food. I cant do fish, but I heard great things about the fish items. However, everything else was amazing! There was, quite literally, the best chicken Ive ever had there. Apparently they are sourced from free range farms, so, a happy chicken may also account for the taste. The owners, with whom I was privileged enough to have a conversation with, are really quite lovely people and you can just tell that they are obsessed with creating the best experience possible. I really did fall in love with this place! The desserts were quite yummy as well, with the foamed rice pudding being my favorite. It was light and tasty with great portions. I would absolutely return to Salinas and recommend it to anybody who wants a really romantic, relaxing and comforting setting.
In reality they are 4.60, but I rather give them the 5 than the 4. The food is really fantastic. The approach is very avant-gard. That said, very flavorful, packed with excellent cooking techniques. It was a forward approach but still just enough to not be on the intimidating side of it. Wines were also super good!!. The only thing I would take point off for is desserts. They were levels below of the food. Few levels below. I would love for this restaurant experience to finish in a 5 star. It deserves it. It need to be memorable particularly with the last dish, desserts.
This place was PERFECT for the intimate vibe I was looking for when planning my boyfriends 30th birthday. They were accommodating with our tasting menu request, paired perfect cocktails to go along with it and they put us in the coziest spot in the garden room. Highly recommend for nice occasions or date night.
A new favorite place to dine, this restaurant has it all: beautiful, romantic, sexy interior, outstanding, professional service and spectacular, exciting food. The interior is dark and alluring with many dimly lit lights and gorgeous fresh flowers. We arrived late, were the last table to leave because we were having too much fun, and not once did anyone do anything to get us out early. (I feel a little guilty). The food was so tasty and if you love exciting versions of various veggies, do not miss the artichoke, or the Heirloom tomato salad. And if you have not been to Salinas, yet, then don’t miss it! it’s a “must try”!
Went here for my friends birthday. Had to wait half an hour even though we had a reservation. Our waitress seemed overworked and stressed out and not ready to serve another table. We had about 4 appetizer dishes and 3 entrées and sangria. I liked the octopus dish from appetizer and a steak dish from entrée, but foods were generally too salty. One of our main dish order did not go in the kitchen so it came out too late for us to enjoy. Their paella also felt a bit undercooked without that crunchy feel. Maybe its their modern interpretation but I like it cooked more. I feel like from what they are charging, everything should be generally improved.
Where do I start? Very small place. We were seated by the bar area in a booth. Not an intimate dining experience at all. The food was extremely bland. My wife and I were very disappointed with our meals. If that’s a sample of the cuisine served in the coast of Spain well it left a lot to be desired. I normally don’t write negative reviews but I’m sorry I had to with this place. Look elsewhere for a better meal.
We were a group of 7 for a bachelorette party. The reservation process and ordering the pre fixed menu went very smoothly. We had to move the reservation to a later time due to unforeseen circumstances and they quickly accomodated us. While the food was amazing, let me just say that the staff was top notch. They were so friendly, and on top of things. They were fantastic. We loved the food but the fideos negros, ensalada de cangrejos and the branzino ala pancha stood out. The servings were more tham enough. The interior was intimate and romantic. I cant recommend this place highly enough.
Ambience in the bar area was very romantic and intimate. I loved all of the fresh flowers and the dimly lit lighting. It really set the mood. I grabbed a drink at the bar while my date and I waited for our table to be ready. I was surprised that they seated us closer to the front of the restaurant. I would have preferred the main dining room since it seemed more cozy and was a little bit more livelier. If you prefer a quieter atmosphere, the tables at the front of the restaurant would be perfect for you.For food, this is what we ordered:SALINAS BREAD SERVICEANCHOAS JARDINERA (anchovies on toast)PULPO CON PALOMITAS (popcorn-crusted octopus) ***Our favorite dish by far!***PADRONES Y FRAMBUESA (shishito peppers)Chef’s daily fish selection (I think it was branzino?)Side of bravas (crispy potatoes with a spicy sauce) ***SO crispy and addicting!***Food was outstanding and so was the service. I would definitely come back!
$125 stake was way, way, way, overpriced. And not that good too.Was presented as Two and a half pound stake. Funny. Unless you put on a scale bones, horns and hoofs... 40 ounces... Hm... Go to decent stake house and see how 24 ounces stake looks like. Side that comes with it - pathetic and cold. Cheese platter - same thing - way overpriced. Its cheaper to go to Spain which we did in a past. Two other dishes - ladies were not so happy.I was with guests - couldnt discuss all of these things with the staff in their presence. Especially they shared their opinion with me later too. They were not impressed.Interior is very good. Service is very good.I was surprised after reading all those reviews about fabulous foods...No luck for us. And I didnt feel Spain which I know and love.
I would liked to have the chance to taste the food but we were denied entrance at the door, because we were a group of five (four adults and a 12 year old girl)and did not want to order the price fixed menu of tapas. I have many dietary restrictions and the prix menu did not offer anything I could eat and also it was not suitable for the girl.We asked the hostess at the door for an exception and she said she was going to talk to the manager. We saw how she did not talk to anybody and just went around, came back and said it was not possible.Fortunate for us, we left the place and had a great dinner the Socarrat a block from there.I was wondering if the owner was happy to have empty tables that can accommodate five people on a Friday night and not been able to capture the business.
A romantic date night spot with delicately flavored Spanish food, and tons of ambiance. It may be slightly pricey, but its worth the investment. The decor is dreamy with candles, light fixtures, and especially imported flowers from Ecuador fill the air with a soft floral scent. Unfortunately, they didnt open the roof on the back patio because it was too hot but it didnt really matter in the end. Every dish was delicious, our favorite was the salted codfish with heirloom tomatoes. Definitely an ideal place for couples and special dates!
The only reason I’m giving a one star rating is because of the lady at the front desk. The place, I must say, is beautiful, elegant and so cosy! It’s got the right ambiance for special occasions and the food is great too! However, the lady at the front desk was arrogant, boorish and completely lacked tact in terms of dealing with the guests, which I would think should be of utmost priority in any service industry! Salinas might lose out on returning customers owing ONLY to the tactlessness displayed by the staff!
My first time eating her was on my anniversary. On a busy Saturday, my husband and I were treated like royalty. The food was soooo good. The sangria delicious and the overall vibe of this establishment was laid back. I look forward to coming back during the warming months to enjoy their outdoor section.
I made reservations for Salinas several weeks in advance. They were for 9 PM for 5 people on a Thursday night. Mind you when I made these reservations the restaurant was very strict about showing up on time and if I cancelled or missed the reservation they would charge me per person since they took my credit card down to hold the reservation. We get to the restaurant and our table was not ready u til 9:45! The restaurant closed at 10. They claimed they only had 2 tables that held 5 people in their restaurant and they were waiting on a party to get up. How ridiculous is it that they gave me such strict guidelines when making my reservation but couldn’t accommodate me on time? Many nice NYC restaurants give tables a time limit if they know they have that table reserved ahead of time. Salinas did not feel the need to do so. Making matters worse, we were rushed to order our food as it was last call and they were out of many items. It’s not our fault you sat us 45 minutes late. I will not be returning to this restaurant. The food was mediocre and really disappointed in how we were treated by the staff.
Excellent service (thanks Garrett) and a magical space with a Miami vibe (great music). The garden in the back is something special - retracted roof and great ambiance. My wife and I have lived in Chelsea for many years this was an extremely pleasant surprise. Food was great. Deconstructed tapas with a modern twist. Thanks Donald (owner) who thanked us as we left. Will be back again soon.
Great Spanish food!! Came here with my amazing and handsome boyfriend for his 25th birthday.Salinas has made us feel we were in Barcelona all over again. Although the tapas were slightly more expensive than in Barcelona. The flavor was great! And service great too. Memorable experience.P.s. their roses are beautiful and each bloom is larger than a large fist. Gives a nice romantic feel.
We picked salinas for my husbands 50th birthday. It was the perfect place for my daughter to give him the gift of a trip to Spain. Lets start by saying that there is convenient parking down the street around the corner from Tao. The place is beautiful and you are immediately hit by the scent of fresh flowers. The restaurant is calm, quiet & intimate. We picked Wagyu Steaks to start with which were absolutely delicious! Our server whos name was Joseph had wonderful suggestions for both our selections and in what order to have them ( super accommodating and professional when it came to my food allergies) . We proceed with a complementary spread of bread, dips and olives; followed with ceviche as well as an arugula salad and then finishing with three orders of whole branzino. Everything we had was excellent! They sent my husband a delicious rice pudding with a candle! For his birthday without loud obnoxious singing which was great. Lastly Joseph gave us a dessert suggestion which he brought along with complementary cordials ! Including a mock-cocktail for my husband who isnt drinking because of health reasons which he noticed and acknowledged. How nice is that? Did I mention that joseph is also a wine expert who recommended the most delicious white wine Ive ever had and thats saying something as we have traveled a lot. Overall we were blown away and were super happy with our visit to salinas! Thank you to their wonderful staff, even their busboys are on point! ( ps, yes the menu is pricey but it is NYC! and you pay for what you get!... my suggestion for those who complain about the price ... always read the menu before going out, and if it doesnt fit your budget go somewhere else... just a thought)
Salinas is the most perfect restaurant. Romance, Ambiance, Incredible hand crafted food, exceptional service, tons of flowers and candles. They know how to treat you, feed you, and create a unique and memorable dining experience. My wife and I have made Salinas our official Anniversary spot, you should too!!Thank you Salinas (& Daniel our awesome server), we appreciate you guys! Chris & Anna.
I only can say good things about Salinas such a nice place to go for dinner, great food, great server. They really take time to make you feel good, my server Daniel from Spain 🇪🇸 has a highly knowledge about there food. It’s a five star guaranteed ( food and service)
The layout of Salinas is a bit unusual but in a very good way. It is sort of chopped up a bit into more intimate rooms with a bar at the rear. We sat at the bar which was festooned with flowers. It was very chilled at the bar. We started with a couple Spanish beers. We liked the menu a lot. We started with their bread service which offered shaved tomatoes, pickles and lemon aioli. Much more clever than the traditional Spanish version. We then moved on to roasted artichokes with romesco sauce. A fine dish. The next dish was an eggplant sliced in half and grilled with pistachios on top. Winner number three. The final dish which we shared was a version of paella except it had a crispy crust of cheese on top. It is called En Costra and this dish is a must try. A bottle of Albarino was the perfect accompaniment.
Overall, we had a fairly disappointing meal at Salinas. Immediately, we were at a disadvantage, being led to a table in the bar, rather than the gorgeous room with the retractable roof. I guess we didnt look swanky enough, which in NYC has nothing to do with your dress, but more to do with your hip quotient. I am too old to look hip in the city. I apologized to my wife because ten years ago we would be treated like celebrities. The kitchen was closing at 9:30, yes, even in NYC, and the staff was rushing to clean up. This should never be tolerated. Servers and staff shouldnt start cleaning up until the last patron has left. I demanded that in my restaurants. Food was okay, but not memorable. Our rice dishes were bland, but at least my wifes dish arrived in a traditional Paella pan. My rice dish was slopped together on a plate. That being said, the food was okay until the bill arrived:$219.00 for two appetizers, two entrees, bread, two cocktails and two glasses of wine. Thats Michelin star Paris dining prices folks! Yikes! The room is pretty, perfect for a date, but at those prices there are one hundred better choices in New York.
What a beautiful and charming mediterranean restaurant! Overall I thought the food was very good and the service was excellent. Tapas are amazing for light eating too. They have a retractable roof to alternate from summer to winter months- how cool is that?! I recently dined here in December and the main dining room is so cozy and elegant with a fireplace to match. Come summer time it turns into a beautiful outdoor garden. Hello date night!I cant wait to return - an upscale, modern and fabulous dining experience!
Just left a few minutes ago. Was seated exactly on time, service was fine... waiter and staff was pleasant, ambience was lovely. I ordered 5 dishes to share and while the octopus and iberico ham was tasty, the other dishes had soooooo much salt added to them that they were almost inedible. My mouth was burning (and still is) from the tremendous amount of salt that was added and I am NOT sensitive to salt or spices. Not sure what else to say... the dishes are certainly expensive but if it was great it would have been worth it. Not sure if this was an anomaly or if everything is always drenched in salt. Ill be drinking a gallon of water tonight for sure!
Been here multiple times and now had a terrible experience. We were at the bar in the restaurant when we get a notification that our table was cancelled, we had called upfront to let the restaurant know we would be 10-15min late and despite our pro-active approach and being already at the bar they treated us with terrible customer service. Such a shame to have such a low customer orientation.
Intimate setting and lovely atmosphere that is quiet. Very friendly and efficient service too. Good food with lots of flavor though slightly more expensive for the portion size. Try the duck breast, shishito peppers, patatas bravas, and any of the rice dishes! There are some vegetarian options too. A great spot for tapas and authentic Spanish food!
Lovely restaurant in Chelsea; I was expecting something stuffier and overrated, but Salinas delivered for the most part. The ambiance was something special for sure. The drinks were great; my recommendation: the Comandante. The appetizers were had were the Quesos Artesenals(cheese platter) and Navajos Gratinat(razor clams). The cheese selection was rather limited- I only enjoyed 2 of the 4 we received. The razor clams, however, were a huge hit with my family. We ordered another plate of them.I decided to be adventurous and ordered the crispy pig special. It came out and looked phenomenal. However, once I started to cut away the pieces, I noticed how little meat there was; it was all skin and fattiness; typically, I wouldnt complain about the greasy goodness, but you cant serve a pig dish with practically no pork on it. Hold out your index finger- that would be how much pig was on my plate! No joke.My brother had ordered the same dish, but he seemed to have gotten the bulk of the meat. I called the waitress over and her explanation was that some people prefer the skin and some prefer the meat. Since we both ordered it, it was expected that we might share? NO, miss. I ordered my own dish so that I could enjoy MY plate. Secondly, unless the chef is psychic, how can you predict what a customers preference would be? Nonsensical. Then I opted for a paella to replace my dish. Somehow, they decided to portion my dish to a little more than a 1 person serving. The price and menu specifically stated it was a 2-person serving size. It was decided(unbeknownst to me) that because the rest of family had already eaten, that I would receive less for the same price. Upsetting, but I didnt want to be bothered with correcting this.Heres where you ask me why I decided on 4 stars. Well, it was really the service that followed; not to say it wasnt already good, but it was turned up a few notches. The attention paid to our table after the incident was pretty great, especially from the manager himself. So good that when I was waiting for the bathroom, he pushed the door to see if anyone was inside. Yup, that happened.Salinas has a decent formula going. It just needs to tweak a few items on the menu, namely not charge close to $50 for an anorexic piggy and improve the cheese selection. Other than that, great date spot!
This place has some good things going on but unfortunately paella isnt one of them. They do have 4 different paella dishes but none of them had that traditional slightly burnt socarrat. Instead, the 3 of them I tried all had this weird modern take on paella. And they werent as good as regular paella. I went to this restaurant primarily for their paella so I was pretty disappointed. Wont return.
This beautifully decorated newcomer is one to reckon with. Superb food all around with an attention to quality. In the early evening, they close the retractable roof and that alone is a great experience. If anything at all could use improvement it would be the service which tends to hover over the patrons a bit too much.
Absolutelty avoid if you have dietary constraints.San Sebastian is one of the most wonderful places to visit in Spain. Food is incredible and service is great. Given the fact the chef of Salinas comes from such an amazing place, I had hoped to have a similar experience at this restaurant. I have food allergies and a lot of restaurants have been undestanding and have served me some of the most superb meals. This should be the case when paying +$30 for an entree. The waiter would only offer the special which was a mediocre dry Dorade for $46. The pulpo a la gallega (octopus) and dessert were good but nothing increadible, nothing to go back for. There are better places to have a full meal at a more reasonable price. Because the chef wouldnt even considered accommodating my allergies, I wasnt able to order the $40 prix fix and ended up paying $96 for an ok 3 course meal with 1 cocktail and 1 cappuccino. I wouldnt complain about the price if the quality of the happened to be proportional to the bill. Salinas is overpriced and overrated. Save your money and go to Chalsea Market. If you are craving Spanish, El Quijote @23rd ST is a bettter option. Its not glamorous but quality is much higher and consistent.
I was there last night, 12/08/18; made a reservation through Opentable. Food and service were good but all the customer service was bad. The reservation was made 3 weeks ago and requested a specific area and someone called me the day before asking for a credit card to assure the table, ridiculous. Also after being there got an email from Opentable saying the restaurant canceled my reservation (all of this so they don’t pay the fee to Opentable). Just focus on serving the great food you serve and that’s it!
Absolutely the rudest host and manager.... we were 15 mins late - my husband had had surgery and were a little late... I have work in restaurant industry for years... I was told this place was special - probably the most arrogant management or people I have ever run across .Too many amazing restaurants in NYC to subject yourself to this absurd arrogance.Don’t waist your time.
Id like to say that no pigs were harmed in the making of this review, but with our three swine-based plates, unfortunately that wasnt the case :) After our awesome experience at Salinas, Ill surely be returning back to sample some other tasty animals! For starters, my friend and I snagged the pork belly and the bacon-wrapped quail off the tapas menu. The pork belly - served over squash, roasted garlic, and a vinegar reduction - was crisp on the outside, but tender and melt-in-your-mouth juicy on the inside. As for the bacon-wrapped quail, the bacon was both crisp and practically fused onto the quail leg....this was PERFECT. Far too often, when a place offers bacon-wrapped anything, floppy bacon is loosely attached to the host food and once you cut it with a knife, the whole experience is lost. For entrees, my friend went for the steak special - a 9oz ribeye cut into tender slices and garnished with a delicious and creamy sauce drizzle. My slow-roasted suckling pig was the show stealer however - beneath a layer of crispy skin was a bed of super-tender meat that was so soft, it actually put the previous pork belly appetizer to shame. On the drinks side, theyve got a healthy cocktail list with a nice cohort of bourbon-based beverages. I went for the sweet-ish La Campesina, which came mixed with lavender honey syrup and Carpano Antica vermouth. The food and drinks, while a bit pricey, are well worth it, but the atmosphere and service here really bump the whole experience up a couple of notches. First off, theres a nice rustic-meets-classy mix of exposed tumbled marble, polished wood, and smoky mirrors that really set apart the vibe inside. Indirect lighting splashing the walls makes eating and looking around an easy task while still allowing for a dim, date-friendly spot as the night carries on. Theyve got a lovely back garden area beneath a retractable roof, but the inclement weather that evening kept us from getting a chance to experience the open roof. Our server Brian was spot on, food runners fully described the dishes as they came out, waters were topped off and napkins even re-folded when one of us left for the bathroom. Donald, one of the owners, made the rounds, checking up on the tables and ensuring that everyone else was having an equally positive experience.I really enjoyed dinner at Salinas, and look forward to returning when the weather heats up so we can take advantage of that open area in the back!
Fabulous food set to a terrible soundtrack. Seriously, the weird ambient trance music made it feel like a cheesy modern Asian fusion place. But the food! From the charcuterie plate to the dessert, everything was richly layered with flavor and executed flawlessly. Perfect potatos bravas, diced for four sides of crispy excellence. Wine that while pricey was born to be paired with these truly Spanish tapas dishes. We cant wait to go back and attempt the paella.
Utterly APPALLED and extremely disappointed by the service provided during my last visit to Salinas.After:1. Booking an OpenTable reservation 3 weeks prior2. Speaking with restaurant staff over the phone AND via email multiple times about potentially booking the garden room (see photo)3. Receiving an email 3 days PRIOR to my reservation stating Thank you for selecting Salinas for your boyfriends birthday celebration. We look forward to welcoming you both to Salinas on Saturday (see photo, btw no mention of the play phone tag reservation confirmation policy)4. Calling back at 10:40AM the day of my reservation in response to a voicemail request to confirm reservation (NOTE: in this voicemail there was NO mention of the fact that I would lose my spot if I didnt play phone tag until I got a hold of restaurant staff - see photo, no one picked up when I called)I was absolutely mortified to arrive, with my boyfriend, ON his birthday, 15 minutes prior to our reservation and find out that our 7pm reservation had been released only a few hours prior. While a 2nd staff member did call around 1:46PM, just a few hours shy of our dinner reservation, and leave a message stating that our reservation would be released if we did not call back (seriously, how much communication is needed to confirm a reservation???)....I did not receive this message as I was out with my boyfriend celebrating his birthday, as planned, weeks in advance - personal training session at Equinox Printinghouse, lunch at The Smith (EXCELLENT service btw), golfing at Chelsea Piers, enjoying the gorgeous Highline views and then what SHOULD have been a lovely romantic dinner at Salinas.Upon our arrival, it was very clear to all present that an error was made in releasing the reservation. Rather than take on any accountability for this, the manager followed up a very hollow apology by pointing out the restaurants clearly asinine policy that you must play phone tag with the restaurant staff 1-2 days prior to your reservation even if you received a confirmatory email 3 days prior and no one picked up when you called the day of.Further, rather than express any form of genuine empathy, she deflected any responsibility from the restaurant and rebuffed our considerably subdued expression of disappointment with you arent the only ones celebrating a special occasion - insensitive much??Yep, that was her apology. So, if youre expecting even the most rudimentary restaurant etiquette to be employed patronizing Salinas you will be SORELY disappointed. My Recommendation to Salinas:Beyond the need for re-training waitstaff on basic customer service, the current confirmation system is antiquated and doesnt place serving patrons as a high priority in the least.Releasing reservations hours before arrival if a patron is unsuccessful at playing phone tag with the staff to confirm a reservation confirmed several times over via Open Table, then phone, then e-mail is absolutely ABSURD and unacceptable. This policy should be re-evaluated and revised to allow patrons to confirm their reservations with a credit card or via email/text so that customers arent required to play phone tag to secure a reservation.Save it being utterly meaningless toward confirming reservation, the customer service provided via email correspondence was stellar, use that to your advantage. My Recommendation to Patrons:There are a number of excellent 4.5 to 5 star rated restaurants that are equally priced and require a credit card hold with online reservation rather than this obtuse policy and offer far superior service. I strongly advise you spend your time and money at one of these establishments. In this day and age who has time to play phone tag with poorly trained and dismissive restaurant staff??As a Dr. of nutrition and licensed RD who is frequently asked where to dine based on, not only dietary habits but, exceptional customer service, Salinas will NO LONGER be on my list of recommendations.
The chef served us pink raw chicken. He refused to cook it more because he insisted it was perfectly cooked, and the manager and waiter were unsympathetic. Both my wife and I were sick hours after our meal. This restaurant clearly does not mind gambling with their customers health. It should be shut down by the health department.
Went to an event at Salinas where Chef Luis Bollo provided an awesome six item tasting menu, paired with six wonderful wines from the Rueda region of Spain.Although the space can be a little cramped, it lends to the nature of sharing dishes in a cozy communal style. I sat in the room located in the rear of the restaurant. The hostess and staff were excellent, and the Chef was quite gracious in presenting his dishes.I can easily recommend the following tapas: Jilda (salted and marinated anchovies and veggies), Torrada de Berenjenas (poached eggplant with Spanish cheese and shaved fennel on a toasted baguette), Croqueta de Cochinillo (suckling pig blood sausage), Torrada de Serrano (Serrano ham on grilled country bread with olive oil) and the Txistorra en Hohaldre (Basque sausage wrapped with puff pastry lightly coated in a rosemary honey).
“Who’d believe you were in NYC” at this “stunning” Chelsea retreat where “lush” digs with “gorgeous flowers” and a retractable roof set the scene for “inventive” tapas that’ll “transport you to Spain”; “expensive” tabs are forgiven considering the “amazing ambiance.”

The manager is acting in an irritating way. Right after asking me to move my chair forward to make space, this guy DASHED INTO my seat back. Then a few minutes later, this guy KICKED my chair leg when passing by. You can tell that this was not coincidence. It was warning followed by force. This was more than rude, this was physical provocation. Destroyed our party. I would have given a 0-star if I could.

2022-06-24Such a beautiful space with incredible food and service. We showed up 20 min early and sat at the bar till our table was ready. Had a great conversation with the bar tender who recommended some dishes for dinner. I had the rice paella which was great. Full of flavor and fresh seafood. Had the squid ink croquets which were so damn good and filling. It’s so hard to find any kind of squid ink dish. And the steak was the star of the night. One of the best steaks I ever had. Cooked to perfection with the perfect seasoning and slight char. The desert was great as well. Had the burnt cheesecake and it was a perfect cap to the dinner.Definitely coming back for that steak. And hopefully the garden room roof is open next time.

2022-05-18“What’s not to like here?” said the Michelin Guide back in 2017. I only discovered Salinatoday after living in Chelsea for over 3 years. I can’t believe I didn’t discover this place sooner. Food , cocktails. atmosphere and service all fantastic. Yes it’s a bit pricey but gosh was it worth it. Smoked salt cod on toast was fabulous, so was the bravas with caviar and beetroot with anchovies to name but a few. The basque cheesecake was a great finish. Thank you. We’ll be back very soon.

2022-03-24Great dining experience at Salinas. Kind of shocked that its only a 4.3 Starred spot. Meanwhile the food is delicious, feels new and refreshing and is complimented by great service. We arrived a little early for a birthday meal and were accepted at the bar with no wait and got drinks almost immediately, no need to transfer bills to table. The first round of drinks (Balearic Sunset and Imitation of Life) were pretty good! and in 15 minutes or so we were brought to our table. The vibe is dim bar car on a midnight train. We sat in the beautiful atrium in the back perfect for a rainy night. We had Croquetas, Fried artchoke and beet plate which was amazing, some crispy potatoes and the European Sea Bass, which was some of the best fish I have ever tried. All in all a marvelous experience and would definitely go back!

2021-12-09Lovely food. Enjoyed most things and the restaurant has a lovely ambiance. Definitely more of a special occasion place. Went on a great date here, but would consider taking the parents for special dinner if they came to visit.

2021-11-23I looked up top Spanish restaurants in NYC and Salinas was high on the list. The 5 star reviews of this place are so true as the ambience, food and overall service was truly top notch. Our server Andrew was courteous, attentive, friendly, knowledgeable and wonderful which only added to our amazing experience. My wife and I celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary here and we will be back asap! Food was immense, the atmosphere was very romantic and refreshing, but the service itself was also very consistent. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking to celebrate or just eat and drink at a nice place!

2022-02-06Overall, the meal was disappointing. the hostesses and service were not friendly, and we felt rushed the whole meal- even though the dining room had plenty of open tables. our food was not staggered and came all a once... the waiter kept pushing us to order drinks, food, and etc. the jamón was covered in oil (not the oil from the jamón), and was not really jamón- which is a key part of a tapas experience. the croquetas and octopus were the best items we ordered, but everything else was not memorable (and at a v high price point). the cocktails were good- so it would be a good place to come for drinks and one tapa. it was also hard to enjoy tapas when you are being rushed. the garden room is really cozy and romantic, but we chose the sit in the dining room.

2022-04-11Everything about this experience was amazing. From the decor to the natural light in the dining room to the food, all of my senses are treated to classy-yet-casual dining evening.Among the introductory dishes which were all very tasty, I was drawn to the coliflor al yogurt. This yogurt was a highlighted accoutrement that I didnt know roasted cauliflower needed. It was a refreshingly unexpected surprise. The paella was what you wanted it to be. The rice alone captured all the flavors which almost made the clams, shrimp, and chicken seem extra...almost. Add the entraña to the other proteins to grant the evening a decisive victory. And just when you think it couldnt get any better, the desserts where outstanding! The torrija was anything but what I imagined bread pudding to be. The passion fruit carried me to the end with the marmalade (and a slight hint of mint) to stick the landing. The pastel de queso vasco lists with a simple description, but it was more than the words. This has to be the creamiest cheesecake I have ever had. The burning gave the dessert a slight crunch yet caramelized it just enough to peak the sweetness. When you order one of these, order two. This was my evening. Its a pin on the map whenever I am back in the city.

2021-12-08So we tasted a lot from the menu. The best ones are the artichokes, cauliflower, the meat on the bone! The one that is 2.2 pounds and $150 for two people is great. The fish - we had sea bass is great as well. In general highly recommend this place. With the prices on the menu they can put a tablecloth on an ugly table…

2022-07-11Fantastic place!!! The food was amazing the environment was nice and elegant the service is great,, my expectations were short comparing to the reality…
