Sant Ambroeus in other cities:
This was an exquisite environment and experience. The service was on point, and the food was very tasty. The space was small, but charming, inspirational, a d intimate. It’s the perfect place to have a conversational breakfast with your partner or colleagues.Lastly, the coffee was great. Finally a good cup of coffee that didn’t need much doctoring up to taste good.
Very odd experience. Superb service. Like, SUPERB, from the door to the check. And terrific ambiance. And a complete mess, food-wise. An omelette came out as a runny, messy scramble, instead. The French Toast was fine, undistinguished, and small. And the bacon we ordered didnt come.Sad, truly.
The food was good but the ambiance left a lot to be desired. I understand the restaurant is small, but they really pack you in there. Almost no space in between tables. When we got there, we were sat in between two already full tables so we felt a little squished. We asked to be switched to a table in the corner, but were told the table was reserved for a party for 3. Low and behold, the party next to us leaves and they sit another couple who clearly knows someone at the restaurant. They ask to be moved to the corner table we wanted and they were moved immediately. We spent $200 on dinner for two people and it was a slap in the face to see a table that got there after us get preferential treatment. We will not be coming back to this location.
Very charming atmosphere inside and out. We had white wine and prosecco and it was very smooth and refreshing. Pasta was fantastic. Everything from the menu was delicious. The bread they served was warm and crunchy paired up with sweet and tangy balsamic sauce and robust olive oil. Yum! Dont leave without having desert! From hazelnut cake and tiramisu to Italian biscotti, everything was delicious. Our server Luna was amazing! Very professional and fun. She made phenomenal drinks. She was great. On top of that, the management was super sweet. This spot is a must if u want a romantic atmosphere, fantastic service and delicious food.
Legitimately agonizing experience.Terrible service (took forever even though place was empty.) Rude service, unsympathetic, and overpriced and mediocre food.Tasteless place without any soul and for a very specific type of clientele.Have better taste than this—enjoy the real NYC and go elsewhere.AVOID!
Friendly and handsome staff, but the girl in the front (hostess?) was weird. She met us, asked how were we, and continued to stand still. It was uncomfortable and funny. After the minute of silence we asked for a table for two.Entrees were really good, but serving is so simple and boring, looks like my grandmother did it.But dessert was fantastically delicious!Prices are medium. Not touristic place, but crowded.Design of this place is full of dissapiontment. Outside it looks like typical cafe. Old style is not comfortable and pretty. Seating on the dirty, lumpy, crannied couch was inconvenient . Plastic flowers? With such prices its should not be a problem to put natural flowers or even in pots.
One of my FAVORITE places in the city! The atmosphere is great here (either super calm and quiet or incredibly live and bustling), and everyone is quite kind. The food is really good, and they have one of the best gluten free pastas in the city. The coffee and hot chocolate, however, are the real stars. So, so, so good. At least stop in for a coffee if youre in the neighborhood.
This was the most mediocre meal we had in New York City! To my disappointment, one of the shrimps wasnt deveined. We came for the dinner service and all of the shrimps were rubbery. There was too much garlic as well. The sauce was good, we actually liked the bread served with the marinara sauce. However, the drink had just too much grapefruit and was way too sour, so much that I and my husband both of us combined couldnt take three sips down the throat. Our server was great and explained everything well. The food and the drink just didnt deliver to the expectations!
The service was mediocre, but the lamb chops were some of the best Ive ever had. The balance of the dishes my wife and I ordered were fair. Nothing to get excited about. They have booths on the sidewalk that are separated by plexiglass to ensure everyone is physically distanced. This is a nice spot to go for a casual meal with friends or family, but I would not say it is one of the upper echelon restaurants in Manhattan. If you are looking for a decent Italian meal and not looking for anything special than this place is for you.
Always and simply the best cafe experience.Their prosciutto and mozzarella sandwich is heavenly. The coffee lattes without sugar is still divine. And their selection of cookies are also delectable. All in all, worth the money, And definitely my favorite cafe.Oh and their cakes and desserts are on a whole other level!Definitely a treat yourself type of place!
Super warm and friendly staff. Theres nothing like going to an establishment and being greeted by everyone. Its a great place to go for brunch or dinner with your girls OR on a date. Portions were great. This is actually a place where youd leave pleasantly full. Theres a great wine selection to accompany everything on the menu. Both the food AND the staff gets 5 ☆! Ill definitely be going back.
Absolutely incredible atmosphere, even better food. We had the prosciutto and burrata and would have stuffed our pockets full of another order if we could travel with it. Mo was an incredible host, connecting us with a gentleman who was also from the Detroit area, it made for a home-y experience in what is a jungle of a city. Short wait times, excellent wine and dessert menu and the chef knows what good al dente means. 10/10 would recommend.
Was here with my fiancee and friends and I felt bad because we had to reschedule one time and we wanted to sit outside. We got there early and the bar wasnt crowded yet so we felt comfortable at the bar and the place inside has very cool vibe. When our friends got to the bar they didnt rush us to our table. Ive worked in the restaurant industry at the highest of the high end restaurants ( windows on the world ) and Im tough to completely please but this place was a godsend for service and food. I had seen reviews of the food thats why we came but the service was beyond expectations. Thanks Jay and staff for making our night wonderful !! BTW this place is definitely a hot spot because there was an actress or model at the bar that some people came up to get selfies with and she was totally nice to people and told the staff it was fine that she was cool doing it. Just a great place and omg the food is delish !!!
Let’s just face it .. one of the BEST establishments in nyc !!!!by time It did become iconic ! it is a MUST VISIT restaurant in Soho . Facts . Ps west 4th location is a MUST VISIT in west village . Consistency with AMAZING food and beverage and service is just inspiring !
Fantastic every time! The quality of the food is the best and the staff so very kind. We love it there for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Plus the interior is super stylish and comfortable. Nice to sit outside too! Well the above was written a while back and all the lovely staff in the front have been replaced with miserable staff who refused to allow us to sit in a corner as she said for 3 and then proceeded to allow 2 other couples to sit there! Just horrible.
We go to restaurants every week. Pandemic has killed some restaurants with food quality and even more important service. We went here last week and I can say without a doubt that this place is fantastic and best meal we have had since pre endemic. To me even more important was the service from the bartender to the waiters and waitresses and to the people bussing the tables.By far in NYC this is the best service we have had in years. their manager Jay Pablador obviously he must be in the restaurant biz for a while because he runs the place like a swiss watch and everyone is on point. 5 stars isnt enough for this place. I actually feel bad leaving only 5 stars
I hate to write this because the host was so kind and the service was excellent- maybe better than any other location. However I have to say I was thoroughly saddened and disappointed by the food. Received our meal very very quickly which was a bit of a red flag. I got pancakes and it was essentially one big overcooked cake that seemed like it came out a pack of 10 and was put on the grill. Very stale and completely tasteless. My friend got an omelette that was soggy/ wet and over cooked. We were hoping for a nice indulgent brunch to celebrate something but were met with a continental breakfast with a high price tag. If you’re looking to treat yourself to a nice brunch , I would tread carefully….maybe lunch or dinner is better but beware of anything on brunch or breakfast menu… :(
After dinner we decided to take a walk and have coffee . We came across Sant Ambroeus purely by chance Its located on Lafayette street in Soho and is combination of two outlets One is a restaurant and the other is a Gelatria / Cafe . We elected to sit outside I ordered my usual Americano while my wife ordered a Tiramisu dessert. The service was excellent although they were quite busy . My wife loved the Tirimsu dessert so much , she bought extra to take back to the hotel. The cafe also has some excellent vegan options , only to find out on our return trip to Sant Ambroeus. They are the only outlet so far to offer #Vegan Croissants . Great service and choice of desserts Coffe and Tea options. Sant Ambroeus have a few more branches but the dedicated Gelatria alongside the main restaurant is only available on Lafayette in Soho
Sant Ambroeus SoHo has always been my favorite restaurant in all of NYC. Moe, Jay and Remy are amazing in running the space and treat every customer as family. Food and deserts are amazing; personal favs are lamb chops, spicy arrabiata pasta and tiramisu to finish off. Beautiful ambiance and location.
I came here on a trusted recommendation. I still trust the person, but I found the experience a little disappointing. The espresso was less than excellent for the price (not juicy or rich). The service was also underwhelming. I felt like a curiosity to the staff rather than a welcome guest. I might try them again, but not anytime soon.
My review is mixed. Read below. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. The food is excellent. Pasta is fresh. Sauces are perfectly balanced, fresh and delicious. Wine list is big and varied. However, this is a somewhat old-fashioned Upper East side restaurant. The staff is very nice and very friendly as I said. The room is a bit stuffy. Lots of dark wood and soft surfaces. The clientele is stuffy as well.Five stars for the food and service. One star for the atmosphere unless it’s your vibe. I’ll be fair at four stars.
This is a really beautiful space with outstanding food. The coffee is brilliant and the pasta is fantastic. Enjoyed a long business lunch with attentive service and limited interruptions. There was no rush to move us out - we had a great experience. Will definitely be back.
Service was good. But a bit pretentious, overpriced, and the food not very good (perhaps we didnt order right) - not my type of my spot. The highlight of my meal was how quickly my water cup got filled and the complementary bread at the beginning. The panini bread was rock hard and sandwich overall was dry. Probably should have ordered the pasta. There are so many better places to eat in the area Im honestly upset at myself for choosing to eat here.
Im shocked this place is as popular as it is. The ambiance and the decor are great, but the food is subpar. Nothing I ordered had any flavor and both the octopus and the chicken were overcooked. I felt as if I could have made a better meal in five minutes at home. Incredibly disappointing experience.
I don’t comment a lot but the food was extremely sub par for the price the pasta was extra Oily and the Bolognese had no favor . The server was nice but even he look disappointed in what he was passing out. My fiancé sent back her dish I hope they get things fix the manager didn’t even come to the table to apologize
It was unfair. We met with my friend in Manhattan and decided to take some coffee with the dessert in the middle of the walkway. We found a random nice cafe with outdoor service. And how was our frustration when the manager came and said we dont have enough reservation to be served here. The first time in my NYC life I felt not enough human. Sorry, but this is not NYC style.
Once upon a time, when I was younger, my birthday cake would be Sant Ambroeus large size plum tart. The...tartness! The..sweetness! The...amazing crust!!! Thankfully, they still sell this unicorn of a dessert that to some, invokes thoughts of porcelain gods, but to me, is a different kind of heaven. Their tin of shortbread cookies are worth the splurge. Varied flavors, never dry. The $6 cappuccinos are also worth it despite the smaller cup size. Their machines are, I believe, flown in from Italy. So is the trainer who coaches the local staff on how to create the best milk foam thats touched these lips.Keep in mind that some of their downtown locations are physically smaller and have less selection than the main restaurant on Madison. Portion size is decent.Egos run extra large here. Sit down and wait to be seen. Wear your Cartier love bracelet or, if you cant afford one, stare at your neighbor whos wearing 3. Maybe a celebrity will stop by. Hey Jake G!
Omg this place. Never been treated like VIP at a restaurant where food is reasonably priced. Theres even a coat check and you get cute bags for your to-go food. I was treated like royalty and the food was delicious! Another thing is they fill up your water so often that it will never be half empty (or half full!)
Walk in past the sandwiches (fantastic), pastries (some very good) and then meet the backroom guard to be seated very formally. The drinks that are poured are very modest. the price is not.The menu is very inviting. We ate pasta. The carbonara was dry and too smoky, the ravioli was deslicious. A plate of pastries was offered but I asked for Napolian (mistake)--the cream was great the dough was carboard. For my take stick to the front room where you an get the tiny sandwitches and some of the best hot chocolate youve ever tasted.
Love love LOVE this place.Following a day of casual shopping at Soho, this was a wonderful place to kickback and have an early dinner with some friends. I loved the atmosphere, service and of course the food. The Tagliatelle was unforgettable, followed by a Tiramisu washed down with an espresso..
Italian place that gives you French atmosphere doesn’t really make sense..Beside that, food is okay, still would recommend another location West Village.Gentlemen in suit help us with finding the table but it took him so long and seemed confused, but hey this is “Nolita”...
Terrible experience and staff. Paid 7 bucks for a toast that I could barely chew and one terribly boiled egg which I cracked and wasnt even given a plate with. It was a whole mess. Waited 30mins for a stone hard toast. The managers and staff walk around talking and dont pay attention to you. Ive never had such a worse experience before. Seriously.
I went to the restaurant with friends and I ordered a vegetable dish that consisted literally of 1 Persian cucumber , 4 mint leaves and 1/3 of a can of baby corns that you will find in Cheap Chinese joints . This was the dish . I was charged $19 for this dish . I felt deceived . No chef that respects himself will serve this dish and definitely not for $19. So dissapointed .service was below average at least 3 different people were serving us. We had to ask twice for bread . Please remove this dish from your menu .Soup was blah as well. No taste whatsoever .Will go there on a Sunday morning for croissant and coffee but nothing else .
An amazing NYC cafe group which pairs an exquisite aesthetic with an exquisite menu. Designed as, and originally being a traditional Milanese cafe, Sant Ambroeus is named after Saint Ambroggio, the patron saint of Milan, with the success of the original spawned multiple locations throughout New York City (first on Madison Ave in 1982, then expanding to West Village, SoHo, as well as Southampton on Long Island and Palm Beach, Florida.
The place is very cute and feels like home in Italy..Problem we had is waiting for menus for very long time while management chatting with others instead of giving us same service as they did to others..If there was host/hostess, this will be much better experience..

2022-06-26Bustling corner spot, with an upscale yet casual feel. Food was delicious and service staff were professional. Mix of indoor and outdoor seating, excellent for people watching. Recommend trying out the honey ricotta!

2022-03-26Arguably the most authentic Italian food in NYC - each dish was excellent, the service was great, and the outdoor cabin was lively and intimate. The Gianduja (dessert) was delicious and won our hearts. The only challenge was with the Branzino. The plating was fascinating but had to be eaten carefully because of the fish bones that were also present.

2022-01-06I do not recommend this place. There was one server serving everyone. A handful of managers just walking around not doing much. It took forever for someone to take your order, but we had our water glasses filled almost after every sip. I did not get what was going on. Plenty of staff, poor delegation.Food is whatever. This restaurant actually turned me off from pasta aglio e olio for the rest of my life. The burrata cheese, don’t even get me started on that. The dish was so bland, bitter and almost inedible.Cocktails were good. Not much else to say. Don’t come here for the food or service. Come for the vibe, I guess.

2022-02-18Great ambiance. And I was seated immediately despite not having a reservation during their busy brunch. The only reason Im not giving 5-stars is because they changed from brunch to lunch as we were seated, still gave us the brunch menu, and then told us we couldnt order any of the items from it. I just feel like... If they gave us that menu, make an exception.
