Always a lovely time to be had for the whole family. I attended a very lovely memorial service for a beloved member of the downtown/LES community in this park, and it was a lovely place for locals to pay tribute to such a memorable soul. It was--and is--lively, a beautiful Fall day. So nice that there are so many places and ways to remember people we love here...sending love Caroline.
It has so many things that the parks offers for people to enjoy. The only problem that the park currently has is the basketball courts. They need to be repaired. People are injuring themselves. Playing on these basktball courts because they cant tell that the basketball courts need to be repaired and the players who do come out to play do they best to play without harming themselves.
This is an awful park. Its always filthy, desperately needs its walkways repathed and benches replaced, and it has lots of junkies doing junkie things. Seriously, the last time I was there, I witnessed a dude smoking a crack pipe. The upside? Its a really long park, in terms of length, so there are lots of seats. And, if you chill on the Houston St side, you can view some fun pick up basketball games. Otherwise, keep walking.
Has potential, but not very clean, not very safe, plenty of drug users and homeless, and gaining access to courts or fields is a task. By the way, Im not an import, Im a native resident of the L.E.S. since 1967, so I remember what this park was and I know what it could be if given the proper attention like Tompkins Square Park or Washington Square Park
Long narrow park with many distinct sections, including a track, bike polo court, and gardens. Trashes are over-filled, sometimes overtaken by Chinatown smells, home to drug-using homeless, and at northern end clearly drug dealers and gangs that NY Parks has chosen not to address. All this to say, its always full of people using the park, and generally feels safe because of that. If we take the Jane Jacobs approach, the park is a success
This park is a little bit of green along with basketball courts and a baseball field. Checker tables are also a place of congregation for the locals from the surrounding Chinatown. A great place to see if you want a taste of real New York City and it might only cost you a bus or train fare, that is unless you decide to walk or ride a bike, skateboard, or even a unicycle.
Homelessness drugs exercise for elderly during early hrs. Dirty rats has seats available. However Needs to separate children from adult areas. Use it for a park, not extension for police and Correction personel parking. Actually is a Diamond in the rough. Has great potential.
A park like location for the people of all ages, whether go for a walk without worrying the traffics, a game of soccer or basket ball, 100 meters short distance dash, long distance marathon training, even just a group of dancers try to coordinate their moves, this is a fairly decent location amist of concrete buildings.
No one calls it this-- its known as Grand Park. Up at 2nd Ave people play basketball and occasionally there will be league games. Down at Grand St people play basketball, handball, soccer, and bicycle polo. Yes. Bicycle polo. Look it up. For those with children, the Grand park section has a very cool playground.
This place is is nice place for a tour into the white market of cultivated of a Chinese culture ruling the under ground ruled under the nose of the gov and ofcost by the court houses approval and the ultimate head quarters of community service besides that overall a great park if properly taken care of
Im not sure who these people are who have commented but I live in this neighborhood and its not a nice park. It needs a serious overhaul. The images posted here are not the reality of the outer sidewalks and general condition of the area from Hester st. to Houston. Its sad. Why are we spending money on new developments when this and the Allen st. median need huge overhauls?!?!?!
Great park that is long and stretches into different sections along Christie and Forsyth Street in the Lower East Side.Bottom tip near Chinatown is filled with kids and seniors sitting and playing cards while their grandchildren run around the playground. As you go uptown along the park, you will see soccer fields, basketball courts, and some swings in the playground near Whole Foods on Houston street.Back in the 90s in the playground near Chinatown Grand Street, there used to be a big slide, used tire swings attached to wooden poles, and wooden columns where my buddies and I would climb and cause mischief. Due to safey hazards and not being fire proof, the City changed everything and made everything metal and everything seems so much shorter heightwise. The handball courts are still there and recently renovated with new flooring.Park is clean in the day, however at night you may still see some rats running around, but thats the City for you..

2017-09-06Walked this park on the Lower East Side a hundred times and never noticed the basketball court. One day my guy hit me and said he was running a tournament during the summer. I had to support. When I came out, I realized it was right across the street from the Whole Foods. Super convenient since it was a little thick that day.

2019-07-30Great park with amazing vies, the park is really clean so don`t worry about your pets or kids. The playground for the kids is great, this is there paradise. You can walk or run there. I like to run there early in the morning, there not that many people so the atmosphere is relaxing. Around in this area you can find really good coffee locations.

2017-03-04A long park that stretch across the lower part of Manhattan. There is chairs and tables for people to take a rest and chill. Not much to see about in this park.
