Very Nice Sat in the Dining area it was very intimate in the back whereas there were a few other couples back there and friends groups food was good drinks were great overall a great experience I had a chance to sit talk and enjoy a meal and drink without being overwhelmed and over crowded. The Bar area was packed Im going to check that scene another time!
Big thanks to our Waitress Hailey D, she was a rockstar, running the dining area by herself. She made the experience great, I spent about $200 last night and I was extremely disappointed in the food that was highly spoken of. No skirt steak, fine, had a Fillet instead that was SLICED?! Also didnt mention anything on the menu about the blue cheese, I thought it was compound butter and it wasnt pleasent. The Frites were decent overly portioned to the protein ratio. The Brussel sprouts were overly fried, tasted more burnt, but the peppadews and pancetta made it somewhat better, but I should have went with pork belly. The salmon dish, came with extremely overcooked rice, some weird carrot sauteed , stated they were mixed roasted veggies. Salmon was very dry, and super salty. Honestly I know a ton of restaurants in the area for a lot less than this with way more creativity and quality. I felt like I was at a dove bar with fine dining accomodations. Ill probably never come back or reccpmndnthis place unless its for a drink or Hailey D!
If we could eat here all day we would! We went here twice during our stay in Albany and it was absolutely delicious every time. Please stop by here if youre in the area. Calm and chill atmosphere, space outside with fireplaces, its great. Service is great as well. Drinks were very tasty. Many food options. One of us is Celiac and they were familiar with it and reassured us that the food would be safe. Gluten free bread is available, just make sure to confirm with your server. The menu is extremely helpful, there are tags for Gluten Free items, GF-Accomodating items, as well as Vegan items. We had cauliflower wings(first time for one of us having that-delicious) and burgers. Both burgers were absolutely delicious as well as the fries. The vegan patty was one of the best weve ever tasted. Worth a visit if youre in the area. We will 100% be back if were in the area again.
Called to place an order for pickup. Got attitude on the phone for trying to order a salad with chicken, (available on website menu) and ordered chickpea masala. Go in for pickup, didnt get chickpea masala, I received cauliflower bites was told it was my fault and that the kitchen was closed. Definitely not going back considering the bites I didnt even order were burnt. For Savoy, thank Victoria for losing you a customer. (edit added in response to owner response) Picture attached is proof its on your website, maybe check that before responding and we were not credited for the item, server said it was too late to make a change.
I have spent a few weekend nights at this fine establishment. They actually expertly craft the cocktails. The bartenders do not shy away from a request. This one bartender made me a mojito that was so delicious. Besides the delicious original twists on old classics, their food menu is comprehensive. But wait theres more! After 10pm they make burgers and have a evening menu. Such a delicious plate of food with expert cocktails. This place isnt cheap but then again, you are here because you want the best damn cocktails in Albany NY and thats what you get.The atmosphere is amazing too. Keep up the great work!Im a local and this review is my own view.
This is a place that many people bring up, but I feel disappointed for the price of the things on the menu and the level of satisfaction I felt.Ive come here twice, and feel I spent $30 for a $20 experience each time. Its not much money, but the disappointment stings. Its slightly above average food, presented well at a higher price point. But Applebees is just as good. The staff are nice enough. Its less loud than Lionheart which is about next door, and I feel has equivalent food, so its a matter of preference. This is a decent enough place meet someone for a short bite, but I dont see any reason to go out of my way for what I get here.
First time eating here last night. I had a reservation but it took about ten min. for the hostess to appear and when she did she was sort of rude and dismissive. The doorman was nice enough though and the waitress was very sweet, but it seemed like she was the only one? So it took a WHILE to get even drinks. I had the burrata sandwich which definitely could use a balsamic component? Look into it. We liked the food though. It was a very ‘bar like’ atmosphere, more than I was expecting. I’d go again, maybe just not on a Saturday night.
The exceptional food was met by even better service! We sat outside and it got cold so they were sweet enough to offer us a table inside! The drinks were great and the steak and frites and the tortellini with pesto was amazing. We’re definitely going back for the salmon very soon
Considering the hour, the service was decent and the meal was good. Hard to find kitchens that are open until 2am. The chef messed up the steak for the Cesar salad and decided to make new ones. Apparently the waiter was not in the loop and the delay was long enough that two of four of us had finished before the other meals came out. The didnt charge for the steak which was nice, but by the time it was recooked the salad was too warm. However the flavor was very lovely so Im not going to knock them on it and they were apologetic and did try to make it right.
Ok you will likely see more distinct bottles of gin here than you have ever seen. The bar staff is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Walk down a few steps into this cozy space and prepare to be wowed. We had a locally sourced cider on tap that was a real treat. I have rarely felt as welcome as I did here on a first visit. We had plans for eating elsewhere but will definitely have dinner next time we stop by. We will be regulars.
I heard great things about their Sunday brunch and decided to give it a try. I dont know if this is the norm but the service was extremely slow and we waited an hour for our two dishes to arrive. Our waitress didnt come around to check on us so we had to wait a long time again just to get the bill. Food was good but the service was the worst Ive experienced in awhile.Recently went back for dinner and this time, service was good but the food wasn’t. The Vietnamese steak appetizer was ok. The meat was good but the rice that came with it were very soggy and watery which was off putting. My grits in shrimp and grits were grainy and the shrimp a little over cooked. My fiancé ordered pasta primavera with medium rare steak and the steak was very very undercooked and raw inside. The pasta was bland with no flavor. I don’t think I will be back for food here, just drinks.
Food is absolutely delicious, pork belly can be cut with the back of a butter knife. The poutine is by far the best poutine i have ever had. Extremely diverse liquor and beer choices. And the staff, everyone is so friendly and engaging. Super friendly environment and even though i have only been here a handful of times i feel like i have been coming here for years
This has become one of my favorite spots because ALL the food is So. Good. Usually I’ll find a favorite dish at a restaurant and just order that every time, but here I get something new each visit because I trust it will be delicious no matter what and it always is. Not to mention the staff is phenomenal, we had Amanda tonight who was wonderful and made our time here even better.
Savoy has completely stepped up their game to create a wonderful dining COVID friendly experience for all of their guests. They have added wonderful new cocktail and menu options (plenty of vegetarian options- I commend that) and they have a well thought out system. I was completely blown away with the service experience- when you enter they go over rules, and most importantly, they encourage all customers to tell them when they have used the bathroom as they clean after each person. I will be returning and would recommend dining at Savoy to others. I felt completely at ease knowing that the staff are compliant with state regulations and cares about their customers!
Emma is the best waitress. She was so attentive to me and my husband and especially my baby. She gave my baby some grilled sweet potatoes to try! We sat outside with the stroller on the very beautiful sidewalk seating setting. They are very careful about wearing masks. I am definitely a fan and will come here again. I had the fried chicken sandwich and it was amazing. So was the calamari, cheese steak sandwich, and the drinks.
We went here a few weeks ago and had a burger and some wings both are delicious and Id def order them both again. . You can tell they use top quality ingredients. I love the atmosphere would love to go in the summer and sit outside and enjoy one of their signature cocktails
My review primarily concerns the cocktails at Savoy. I tended bar off and on for over 35 years—from Nowhere, USA, to the heart of NYCs West Village—and am pretty difficult to impress. Savoy, however, did just that. I enjoyed two different bourbon cocktails here that were absolutely first class. The last time I had drinks of this quality was at my very favorite bar on the planet, L.B.M. I also took home some fries with me, and they were delicious. If you want great drinks at a reasonable price and good food, visit Savoy. You will leave happy you came.
Stopped by the bar for an upscale, casual meal and some fancy cocktails for a birthday celebration, and the Savoy Taproom was the perfect spot! We had a pulled pork mac-n-cheese, which was delicious, and my drink was exquisitely crafted and well flavored. I would return again! Our bartender Christian was the perfect host for our meal. A good place to check out!
The woman working the phones tonight was so helpful and on top of things during a really busy, and I imagine stressful shift. I ordered alcoholic drinks off grubhub and instead of canceling my order because I didnt order food with it (a requirement grubhub doesnt recognize) she called me and let me know. After I couldnt manage to edit my order she called me again to do it manually for me. Very pleasant over the phone and my order came on time and was delicious. The woman deserves a free meal and a raise!💗
Good food but the service/customer service left much to be desired. It wasnt busy, yet we waited more than 30 minutes for our food. When it came, my boyfriends order was wrong. When we notified the waiter, he said he woild rectify the issue, yet never came back to the table period. I doubt Ill be back.
Great atmosphere, amazing food, the Mac n cheese and wings are 🔥. The drinks are by far the best Ive had in Albany. Only thing I didnt like was on a Sunday I went in and the atmosphere was great until a DJ came in and the mood change. The music was fine but for a Sunday night I feel people want more of a relaxed quite atmosphere.
I live close by and this is my go-to place for a beer and burger. When theyre on-point, its some of the best food (their mac and cheese is probably the best Ive had and Im from the south). With that said, their food and service can be pretty inconsistent. It really depends who is preparing your food whether you end up with an amazing dish or a mediocre dish. Ive definitely had fries that were on the verge of being burnt and almost too crispy to eat as well as a stale bun on my burger. Same with service, some of the servers are incredible and just the right amount of attentive and some youll have to track down yourself to give you the time of day. But when you have the right cook and server, Savoy is hands down the best and is definitely worth rolling the dice.
We came here for restaurant week. The food was really good, although we were served slightly different food than was what on the menu (we got brussel sprouts instead of zucchini, for example). The service was incredibly slow, but also for no apparent reason. They werent super busy or anything. Overall, Id still come back. The food was all delicious and our server was friendly
Loved this place. Waiter was amazing. Knowledgeable and friendly! I had the vegan burger on a glutton free bun as the other wasnt vegan. Fries are really good. We had the sietan wings as an app. Crispy and delicious. We also had the vegan poutine. Wonderful place, will go back!
Very cool place. Here not and the bartenders are extremely prompt. Foods great. I have a chicken salad, you can tell its all fresh. Bar has original options which is cool. Everyone is friendly. I was here when it was Justins and it was good as well, but the vibe now is just so much better and engaging. I like it. Fiat prices, I will definitely be back.
My wife and I had never gone here, but we just got takeout tonight. Some of the best food we have both had in ages. We got 5 items and all of them were outstanding. The roasted vegetables werent overcooked or undercooked, like in a lot of places. They were very garlicky, which is a good thing. The mac and cheese, really didnt look like much, but was delicious. I dont care for most mac and cheese, but I would order this for myself. It was creamy and tasty. I got the wings with Dannys buffalo bourbon sauce. I recommend getting extra sauce, as the wings were a little dry, but by no means did that mean they werent delicious. Their blue cheese sauce is also better than most and has a lot of chunks in it. My wife had the poutine. It comes with a rich, brown gravy that I would love to have a gallon of. Their pork belly was super crispy and came on a bed of Brussel sprouts that were prepared in a way that made their usual bitterness, non-existent. In addition to the great food, the service was super. Two of the friendliest people Ive encountered in a while. The order was 100% correct (which is a rarity these days) and ready when I walked in. I highly recommend the Savoy Taproom and they are open for takeout during these plague times. Also, check out their mixed drinks, which you can get to go now. FYI, call in with your order, as GrubHub is more expensive and you cant order alcohol on there.
I LOVE this place. Stopped by to get some food and drinks since it was the one of the few places open and.... I absolutely loved it. The customer service was amazing. And most importantly the food and the drinks were SOOO good. I’ll be coming here again, next time I’m in Albany.
Really busy on weekends making it hard to get seating and a drink at/around the bar in such a small place.. come early and/or plan ahead. Great cozy vibe and excellent spirits and cocktail menu that changes seasonally. Your drink will be made well and presented in a beautiful fashion!
Best bar in Albany for a number of reasons. The cocktails are fun and delicious and the menu gets updated pretty frequently. They carry fresh mint, a rarity! Great mojitos. The food options are super accommodating. A TON of gluten-free options (Savoy and New World Bistro have the best gluten-free menus in Albany, imo) and a bunch of can-be-vegan ones, too. And every single person Ive met who works here is a joy. Smart, funny, talented people behind the bar and in the kitchen. Comedy night Wednesdays and their live music nights are personal favorites.
I was worried that I wasnt going to enjoy the food here but it was truly delicious. Service is a bit slow, I believe they have 1 server for the place, however it shouldnt sway your decision.. just make sure youre not in a rush once you sit down! They have a decent happy hour as well. I would say Savoy is known for their cocktails. They do a really great job making liqour takes like magic.
Very fancy place as far as hipster dive bars. Actually, let me revise that by saying it’s a very chic top end bar with top end prices that has the veneer of being a quaint dive bar in order to add to its hipster atmosphere. If you like pickle backs you need to come here because they make their own juice and it’s godlike. If you don’t know what a pickle back is then stop reading my review because you’re either too young to drink or an idiot.
Went here offhand one night to try something new, and to our surprise they were serving food at one in the morning... And excellent food at that, I had roasted brussel sprouts which was frankly a shocking find for so late in the night. But even beyond the late-night deliciousness of the menu, the drinks were amazing. They definitely take pride and effort with their cocktails which makes picking a favorite between the food and the drinks a tough call. Both masterfully and beautifully prepared with an accomplished selection. I would definitely recommend and definitely go back.
Wow the brussel sprouts were astoundingly good, very different from most. We got 6 starters and shared family style. It all got devoured. Loved the poutine, and the wings too. Nice selection of cocktails and beers on tap. Very good service. It was pretty busy but food came out at a decent pace, well run show
Establishment, food, and service were awesome. But we sat outside on a Sunday afternoon and were harassed 3 separate times in an hour by homeless people. Even when walking aways they were all sitting there and said They look like they have a lot of money. Very off putting and frankly alarming. For such a wonderful place this should not be an issue. I dont even have this issue in NYC.
Sophisticated menu with creative gluten free and vegan options. My dish was FANTASTIC. I couldnt STOP eating it. Took a while to receive our apps and food but they kept the drinks flowing as well as apologized for the hold up. Keep the kids home for this one, not really a picturesque family setting.
We were in town for the night, looking for someplace open late and found Savoy. The bar and bar top tables were full. There were people standing around with drinks and a few in line to ask the bartender for a table. I was prepared for a wait, but we were escorted to a dining room next door immediately. The server handled the tables out front, the high tops in the bar, and the dining room, and we never felt unattended. 5 stars for the service. The food was typical bar food. 3 stars for the food.
Alright for a pub with food. Was not impressed with quality of basic food items. Ordered mr burger, came out dry and flavorless. Like it was squeezed or pressed. For the price, I would never go back. I dont mind spending 100s on a meal that is proper, but this was a simple burger craving, cost 80 bucks for couple apps that were not satisfying and 2 burgers.
Server seemed indifferent and the menu for Lark restaurant week was a huge disappointment. The portions were tiny, so we left still a little hungry. I was served inedible, burnt potatoes. When I mentioned they were burnt to the server, nothing was done to remedy the situation. The apple fritters were super dry and didnt have much taste. Im sure they do burgers well, but not more sophisticated dishes.
Good music whether it be on radio or the many live performances they hold every week. The staff is some of if not the best you will encounter in albany when it comes to their ability to craft the most exquisite and cost efficient cocktail as well as make some of the best dishes in the area. All that aside you will be greeted and served with people of sincere dedication to their jobs and very friendly disposition, and you wont need to wait very long to be noticed and attended to either. The atmosphere is unique to lark street with its dim and red lighting it brings one to feel as though they are in a modern speakeasy of sorts. The crowd varies which is also nice, youll encounter a little bit of everything whether it be college students, couples, singles, music lovers, regulars and bar hoppers, even on its most crowded of nights you wont feel to overwhelmed but will also feel as though you are not out of place and comfortable enough to meet others. As far as price range it varies to what you want and whether you want to splurge or just have a low key on budget night , the savoy can accommodate and without disappointment. Of all the bars in the capital region, I have yet to be a patron to one of the standard and comfartability of this one. If you havent been, you should probably get on absolving that problem.
Went for brunch last Sunday, service was good and food was great too. I do only wish the coffee came around a bit more and/or they had bigger mugs,... but I kept in mind that I wasnt in my local diner that serves breakfast every day and is used to bringing around coffee constantly, so I wouldnt knock it for that.
My girlfriend and I stopped by for lunch during restaurant week and I was super impressed. She ordered the pork belly appetizer and had grilled chicken and sweet potato Alfredo as her entree, I ordered wings and duck tacos. Everything we ordered was delicious, I went back two days later to order the tacos again lol
Went here the other night, a very nice place. As you go in you have the bar along with some dinner seating. Around the bar and in the other room is where you can find more seating, there also is a stage where they have live music. Parking can be tough but Madison Ave seems to have more parking than lark. Enjoy
Make your own mimosa (first Sunday of every month) is a must try! This just so happened to land on my 21st birthday and it was a great way to start the day. Food is reasonably priced for the high quality taste. I ordered the crème brûlée French toast and it was delicious!
I think this place is trying to be more upscale than the predecessor Justins. Not sure if they are there yet. We got the tacos today and some drinks. It was the food was just okay. The martinis are on the small side and they added a frothy foam to it taking up more room in the already undersized glass.
Awesome, creative menus, be it food or craft cocktails you’re looking for. Everything here is delicious, staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and there’s often local music in the back room. This is easily my favorite walkable spot in center square to go grab food and/or a drink
My boyfriend and I went here expecting a bar but its actually a pretty classy restaurant on the dinner room side(which is a separate room than the bar). Dinner(Venison Bolognese for me and Gnocci for him) was great but pricey, while the desserts were also great but more moderately priced. There was a live jazz band playing which was a nice little surprise. They did a great job.
Egg white free whisky sour is good, but can get pricy to sit and enjoy several over an extended conversation!! Wings are good as well. Can be a little noisy around the bar, but no more so than other popular places. I like to meet up with former co-workers to catch up, because Lark street is convenient to most downtown work locations.
No idea why this place wasnt packed. Good food, great and sociable staff. Even gave me a free taste of a new cucumber ale. Some idiot customers walked through the kitchen entrance and left out the front door however which lead to some entertaining conversation behind the bar. Next time im in Albany I will be sure to stop by.
Go to Savoy Taproom for good times at great establishment. You can really tell youre at local place that stands out from generic bars and restaurants. What brings me back is well executed food, drinks that vary from a good pint of brew to unique cocktails, and local original music.
New owners have done great job putting a new spin on this Albany restaurant and bar. Midpriced menu including pub fare and full entrees with theme nights with specials: Mon.- Martinis, Tues. - Burgers, Wed.- Wings & whiskey, Thurs. - Oysters. Great signature cocktails and innovative Sunday brunch.
This place is soooooooooo good its a reason to visit Albany. Although small and a bare bones bar, all the magic is behind the scenes. They have a great selection of spirits and a skilled and charming bartender. You MUST enjoy the food. The SHISHITO PEPPERS, BRUSSEL SPROUTS and SHRIMP&GRITS are PHENOMENAL! Seriously, highly recommend for all occasions. Sit at the bar and mingle.
It was a cool night. I go to the spot whenever John Brown(JB) is deejaying. On July 4th 2019, there was a woman who was drunk who attacked my friend that accompanied me that night, but security handled the situation with care, but John Brown shut down the music early because he had to help deescalate the problem. I think he mightve felt unsafe at that moment because the drunk woman was being harassed by some random man who wanted to take advantage of the drunk woman. My friend wasnt harmed, but my friend tried to help the drunk woman aswell and was attack for being a good samaritan. We had just bought 2 drinks we couldnt even finish. Other than that. Cool night. Some ppl celebrate independence day too well.🙂
Found out about this place by going to a stand up comedy show that was held in a back room of the bar. Nice small crowd of about 50 people , was really up and close and after the show was able to take pictures with the preformers . Service and food is also great. Deffinetly going back ,to next stand up event, they do 1 every month. Highly recomend checking this place out.
Well back in the day it was the 2nd place i went 4a drink when i turned 21 back then it was called Justins im now 3 decades i still go there the crowds younger the drink menu has changed as well but i have great memories sandwiches like:clint Eastwood, marilyn monroe, its world famous jerk & the taste of rick orlando b4 he got on chopped. I wish i could work there just pay me in food. It will b there long after im gone & if its still as good it will b. Mel-e-mel signing off

2022-02-12Having first visited Savoy Taproom a few months back, I knew my husband would enjoy it as he was looking to try someplace new for dinner last evening.Their website is straightforward in stating they require vaccination cards and they mean it too. We like that. If you dont, there are plenty of other options in town.Continuing on the safety-first journey, youll find they dont offer menus and instead point you to their website which is easy to navigate. From what I saw, all staff wore masks and they wore them properly - over the nose.We started our evening with a Titos Vodka Martini and their current Old Fashioned: Saintly Daddy. Simple said about the martini: they pour a good one. The Old Fashioned was bright, warm, and refreshing on a cold winter night. With a hint of pear and the aroma of the dried orange crisp, I had to have two.For starters, we ordered their Poached Pear Salad and the Crispy Cauliflower. Both were quite unique with the pear salad being on the lighter, sweet, and savory side. The cauliflower, having been fried, is a heartier salad with small bits of pickle providing a bright pop. Both were winners! While we hoped to order the Flat Iron steak, it wasnt being offered at the time. (We look forward to trying that in the future!) Instead, I ordered the Mississippi Fried Chicken Sandwich with fries. The crispy chicken breast was served on a perfectly toasted brioche bun. It was topped with pickles, lettuce, tomato, and their Jackson sauce which is similar to the Golden Archs special sauce. I didnt see if there was an up-charge but I had the Buffalo Bourbon fries. The sauce was deliciously tangy though I did find the fries to be a bit drenched in the sauce. Id suggest asking them to go light on the sauce or serve it on the side.Ignoring the advice of our server, my husband ordered 10 Jumbo Wings instead of the suggested 5 with their Medium sauce. They were indeed jumbo and the sauce was spot on...not too mild, not too hot, and had great flavor. Needless to say, 5 is enough as he brought the other 5 home. For dessert, we took home the Lovin Spoonful Big Chocolate Cake which is a chocolate lovers dream: chocolate on chocolate on chocolate! We also got the Creme Brulee Cheesecake which is an interesting and tasty combination of the two desserts wrapped up in a single slice of pie.If you cant tell, we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and look forward to many more at the Savoy Taproom.Shout out to Amanda and Keri for making our evening a success!Thoughts for management:Put QR codes on tables to help guide patrons to your menu.Dress up your to-go desserts a bit with a garnish of some sort; they pale in comparison to the in-house plating you do with other dishes.

2022-01-25The Savoy Tap Room is a lovely and comfortable gem. The staff are all very friendly and playful. The vibe is sort of a throw back to older days in that the décor is dark wood while the space is aptly lit and cozy. The food is very good and they offer enough choices to satisfy any appetite. Mixology is definitely practiced here and they off a decent selection of adult beverages to imbibe. If you havent been get yourself there for the comfy and delicious experience!

2022-06-18A cozy place for a nice evening to spend with friends and have a couple of drinks and the food is really good, something different to definitely give a try! We had Peruvian chicken wings and piri piri shrimp, both tasted amazing! Prices are a little high for the drinks.

2021-10-31Best restaurant weve been to in awhile. The bar had a fun atmosphere, the other dining area was cute and casual. Halloween drinks were fantastic. I wish I had taken pics of our food. We had the Area 51 wings (buffalo bourbon & honey mustard), buffalo bourbon fries, the Mississippi chicken sandwich, and a blue cheese bacon burger I dont remember the name of. Portions are huge, they give you a TON of fries & they are the best in Albany. The chicken was hanging off the bun in every direction. The burger was perfectly cooked. The staff was very friendly. We even took leftovers home and everything was just as good re-heated the next day. I suggest making reservations on the weekend - we only got in without a long wait on a Friday night because someone didnt show for their reservation.

2022-01-17First date night in a very long time and Savoy was the perfect place! The service was 5 star, the vibe was awesome, the food was delicious and I absolutely loved the music playing in the restaurant. I’m a big old school hip hop fan and it just made the vibe so much more relaxed. Will highly recommend to others and next time I’m in the Albany area I will come back.

2022-01-27The waiter was super attentive! overheard my preference for bbq sauce and delivered without me requesting it! however, my steak was cooked well done when I requested medium well. Will just request medium next time. finished the fries the next day at work, and they actually heated well and smelled great. all the office ladies wanted to know where the fries were from!
