John did a fantastic job with my piercing. He explained ever step, answered all my questions, and made sure I was comfortable during the whole process. Definitely going to be going back for my next piercing.
Friendly staff who were very knowledgeable. I believe I got threaded flat back piercing. Took away 1 star since the threaded earring unscrewed itself 1-2 days after placement, and I had to go back to get the ears re-pierced.
Ive had both nostrils and my sternum done, and Scarab will always be my go-to! Kaitlyn and John walk you through all the steps and answer any questions about the process and after care. They are clean, professional and respectful. Thank you so much!

I wish they would coordinate with their artists to update the website in terms of which artists are fully booked for the season and which artists are actually actively booking clients. Also a lot of the artists aren’t professional in the sense that they don’t respond to emails or text messages in regards to scheduling a consultation or appointment. Even if they are booked a generic response or updated website would be appreciated as I would actually still consider giving the artist my hard earned money. But no response at all comes across as rude and unprofessional and I’ll probably not want to consider the artist again or pass the name to a friend.
Today I came in to get my Nostril and Helix pierced since Ive been following Scarab Body Arts for about 3 months, John/staff was very professional and made sure to explain the aftercare in detail which I really appreciate.The shop was very hygienic and just created an overall Wonderful experience🤍I absolutely love my piercings and cant wait to come back for more!!
The atmosphere is amazing. The peircer, John Joyce, was patient and walked me through every step, and made sure I knew what was normal and what wasnt during the healing process. I absolutely recommend going here, and I will be returning for my future peircings.

I’ve been coming here for just about a year now and I cannot rave more about my experience with the piercers here! I had my nostril done here last summer and I felt nothing (and I have a low pain tolerance!) The piercers here are so patient, clear about the care and pricing, and gentle as they can be! I got my septum and stacked lobe done by them as well and it was the same clean, straightforward experience. I hope to come back for many more piercings in the future. Yes the price is a little more than most piercers around, but you’re paying for quality jewelry and incredibly precise (even surgical) piercings. I myself put the price aside gladly for the incredible service and care! I will never go to any other piercer besides these guys! I HIGHLY recommend!!!
Kaitlin and John were great! Kaitlin knew my friend and I were nervous about our piercings and talked us through the whole process. She was very quick with the whole thing and did it all so well. The shop is so relaxing and fun to just be in. If you go to Scarab you will be far from disappointed. I will always recommend Scarab!
Just recently got my nipples pierced by John. It was my first piercing and as a male i was very nervous as i knew the nipples is one of the most painful spots to get done. John was very professional and attentive, the environment was clean and non-judgemental. I’m not sure if i will ever be back because i don’t plan on getting anything else pierced, but if i ever want new jewelry i will stop back in and will also be recommending them to anyone who asked. People that complain about prices, good work isn’t cheap, and cheap work isn’t good. If you want a piercing done for $20 then go to Claire’s.
John was an absolute dream to work with for my vch piercing. He asked my preference of the piercer I worked with to make sure I was comfortable. He went through all of the steps with me so I was never unsure of what was going on. The jewelry selection is always top notch for all budgets and I was able to pick a piece that suited me perfectly. The shop is always clean and everyone is super professional. Definitely would recommend Scarab for any piercing, but especially a more personal one that requires a lot of comfort and trust. I will continue to return to Scarab for all my piercings. Cant recommend enough!
I went last week to get my bridge pierced by John Joyce! The whole experience was amazing from the bat! I have a very crazy work schedule and I was driving from about an hour away to come see him and he was so flexible with scheduling and so kind, he was able to offer me multiple dates/times to make sure I was able to come! Once we got there the place was beautiful and so clean, John immediately helped us and was able to give me so much good information about my piercing and he was able to offer many options for jewelry which was amazing because any other piercing I have gotten at other places there were only so many options. Once I got back to the room with him to do the piercing he spent ample time making sure to get my piercing placed just right and checked me from every way! I’m not joking, he had me sitting, standing and laying down along with him moving himself around to make sure it was correct! That fact that he was so knowledgeable and so particular about the placement made me so calm and I felt so safe! Right before the piercing he ran through the whole list of what was about to happen and what I was to do which was really nice because I’ve been in a position before when I was like “okay what now” but not with him! If you’re looking to get anything piercing I 100% feel safe recommending him! I wish I could give this place 10 stars! The whole experience was amazing and I was filled with lots of information to take home with my new piercing and I had a few questions for John also that he did not hesitate to answer and made me feel really comfortable even with silly questions!
I have never had a bad experience at Scarab. Ive had services by Shane for tattoos and John and Kaitlin for piercings and all have been amazing. Very professional setting, and very clean. Staff is amazing; they will take the time to answer any questions you might have and make sure you are comfortable with the product/service you are receiving. It feels like a safe place, and you just know youre getting the best of the best at Scarab. Highly recommend.
Kaitlin was very calming, knowledgeable, and professional. This was my first piercing (besides my ears) and I was likely a non-traditional client (older). She did a wonderful job and I am very happy with the result.
Ive had the pleasure of being pierced by both John and Kaitlin and I cant say enough good things about both of them. Came here a couple of weeks ago for a piercing and for a downsizing and Kaitlin had been absolutely amazing. She tells you step by step on what to expect. There was no pressure on me when I was uncertain about what kind of piercings that I wanted done or what kind of jewelry to get. Honest people and a very clean and calming shop. If you’re new to the area (like I am) and want a place to go for piercings, this is it.
Knowing the knowledge and experience John brings to the table, I knew without hesitation where I was going to bring my son when he asked me to get his ears pierced. My son was quite nervous and John was calming, gentle, and thorough as he explained every step of the way; reassuring him there would be no surprises. My son was very surprised at how little it hurt (his pain tolerance is not very high) and is beyond thrilled with his new earrings. From communication to the service itself, I cant thank John enough. 100% recommend.
I came to John when I had a piercing become infected that was done by another piercer (not affiliated with Scarab). My ear was EXTREMELY swollen and in pain. John and Kaitlyn were able to remove the piercing and make the experience as easy as it could be, you can tell how experienced and knowledgeable they are. I’m beyond thankful for them. Scarab takes the time to make sure your experience is safe, sanitized and easy and I have nothing but great things to share about them. Thank you again for everything.
Incredible place, got my ears done here and I couldnt be happier. Its certainly a bit more expensive than some other shops Ive been to, but the jewelry is exceptional and the service is so warm and welcoming. 100% worth every penny.
I got my philtrum pierced at Scarab Body Arts. The shop was clean and welcoming and the staff was kind and professional. Particularly, my piercer Kaitlin was amazing! She is very knowledgeable and did a wonderful job of talking me through the process and making me feel comfortable every step of the way. I would highly recommend getting a piercing here, and I will certainly be back if I want another piercing!
I called randomly one night because my nose piercing came out. My piercer retired and I was in crisis trying to put in a one month old piercing. They were able to see me that night and hooked me up with a great nose stud without any issues. Definitely going to be my piercing parlor of choice from now on! Very clean and kind people!
I got my first tattoo done by Cecily. It took me a long time to really do my research and when I saw Cecily pop up on my Instagram I knew she was the perfect artist for me! She was so sweet and very friendly and made me feel totally comfortable. I am beyond happy with my tattoo. The shop itself was also beautiful and very clean and professional!
Such an amazing business with great staff. I went to Scarab a couple years ago to get a nostril piercing and had a great experience. When I had trouble with the healing process (which seems to be typical for the type of piercing), the staff at Scarab were incredibly helpful and informative. By no fault of the piercing itself, I gave up on my nostril piercing and later decided on a septum. I went back this past week and was very nervous, but the experience was great once again. John was super helpful and answered all my questions. They really know what they are doing here and it shows. Wouldnt go anywhere else for piercings now! Hoping to get a tattoo here in the near future. :)
I went in today to get my nostril and eyebrow pierced by Kaitlin and she was extremely warm, inviting and made me feel extremely comfortable immediately. I loved how she walked me through the entire process and distracted me during the actual piercing. This place is clean and they all do great work. I’d recommend them to anyone.

I had a great experience with my nostril piercing at Scarab! John was extremely professional, knowledgable, and thorough with the aftercare instructions. He placed the stud perfectly for the shape of my nose, and it was overall a very high quality piercing which Ive gotten many compliments on! I havent had any issues with my nose thus far (no redness, swelling, or pain of any kind), and Ill definitely be coming back for any future piercings!

Got my first cartilage piercing by John a couple of weeks back. The shop is very clean and I felt very comfortable getting a piercing there. They strictly follow COVID guidelines to ensure safety of customers. John took the time to thoroughly explain healing course and aftercare. He was also very patient in explaining jewelry options. The piercing process itself was pleasant as he walked me through everything he was doing. I knew the healing process would be protracted due to the nature of piercing but John has been incredibly supportive and responsive to my questions and concerns. I have a nickel allergy and I called to ask to see if they would accommodate and the man on the phone said if you have a nickel allergy you shouldn’t even get a tattoo.

I could not be more pleased with my piercing experience here. John was my piercer and despite me getting 6 piercings in one sitting, it was a really comfortable experience. He kept conversation going which helped me stay calm aside from just general nervousness. This is one of the best rated shops in Syracuse for a reason. The professionalism and cleanliness of the shop can not be matched by any other shop in the area. The quality of body jewelry was amazing and the styles were all on trend as well as a few other types. Overall, I highly recommend this shop and John as a piercer.
I have gotten two piercings here and I would absolutely recommend it! I got my nose pierced by Caitlin and she was very nice and professional. The rooms are impeccably clean almost like a hospital and the waiting rooms are comfortable and quiet. I got my conch pierced by Olivia and it was a very similar experience. She was polite, kind and very professional . Over all it was an amazing experience and I would absolutely recommend Scarab for anyone from beginners to people with tons of piercings.

I recently got new piercings this past weekend and I cannot recommend Scarab enough. My piercer, Olivia, was so patient and thorough, really taking the time to answer my questions and make sure the piercing locations were exactly where I wanted them. The studio has a a number of COVID precautions and safety measures in place and the whole facility is clearly clean and well-maintained. They also have a wide variety of implant-grade jewelry to choose from, as well as 18K options for those who prefer gold. The staff is well informed and professional - I would definitely recommend Scarab to anyone looking to get a piercing in the Syracuse area.
First of all, really cool shop. Its really unique and cool just sitting in there waiting. I got my ears pierced for the first time since I was 8. John and his apprentice made me feel relaxed throughout the entire procedure. Getting the piercing barely hurt and they asked me multiple times if the placement was good. Everything recovery wise is going great. No swelling, little to no pain, and everything is going well! Definitely going to come back for some more ear piercings in the future. I have had multiple piercings and now a new tattoo from here. The shop itself has a beautiful, artsy, and comfortable atmosphere. The staff are friendly and experienced, with a variety of specialties and talents. Ive observed them teach upcoming artists and piercers, which to me makes a great business. Sterile equipment and many sanitary measures taken for each procedure. Overall a friendly, safe, and fun place to get some art or a new jewel on your body. I will be returning again!
I was getting a genital piercing and wanted to go to the best place around. Didn’t want to cheap out on that type of piercing. I googled the highest reviewed place and chose scarab! And I’m glad I did. Responded very quickly to my email about making an appointment. Very kind, professional people, I felt very comfortable even tho my friend couldn’t hold my hand through it due to COVID regulations they have to follow which is another plus for them not being sneaky with rules, just makes them that much better AND CLEANER in my book. I have been a returning customer to Scarab since the moment I walked through the doors. Ever since getting into body modification as a teen I have been in countless shops - literally none of them compare to Scarab. I have received piercings / jewelry changes from both John and Kaitlin and their warmth, kindness, and customer service is second to none. The shop is beautiful, clean, their sterile technique is on point, and you can really tell that John and Kaitlin care about their clients. I have been pierced by at least 15 different piercers and I have yet to meet anyone that has the knowledge of piercing and jewelry like they do ! And don’t even get me started on the AMAZING selection of top notch jewelry. Both John and Kaitlin spent (let’s be real) probably hours chatting with me about jewelry during lockdown, sending me pictures & videos, and shipped beautiful jewelry to me multiple times throughout the shut down. Kaitlin has even taken my ear to photoshop (on her own time!) to perfectly curate my ear with wonderful jewelry. This business is amazing & the people running it are top notch.
I chose Scarab for my 11 year old daughter from the great reviews and for the fact that they have been a reputable business for so many years.After lots of research, I discovered the safest place to have my childs ears pierced was at a reputable tattoo/piercing studio.Although getting a childs ears pierced at a studio will run you significantly more than at a mall kiosk or elsewhere, it is worth it to know that the jewelry and equipment being used on your child is clean, safe and never used twice, and that the person performing the piercing is well trained and very experienced.Our piercer Katelyn was very gracious and did a great job putting my childs fears at ease. She talked her through all of the steps and aftercare and made sure my child was comfortable the entire time. I liked that she gave my child choices and treated her as a person, albeit a young person :)We were very pleased with our experience and would recommend them to anyone planning to get a piercing for themselves, or their child.

I went to Scarab Body Arts to get my nipples pierced and since Id been there before to get my nose done, I knew I could trust this business. I was very nervous walking in but as soon as I got settled in and spoke with the owner/piercer, I immediately felt my anxiety melt away. John was very professional and friendly and made me feel very comfortable. Of all the piercers Ive had, he is by far the best when it comes to bedside manner, cleanliness and taking what he does seriously. His extensive knowledge on the art was very obvious. It was very reassuring to see him spend so much time marking/measuring the skin before performing the piercing. I also appreciated him sitting down with me to discuss aftercare. His pointers and tips have been working wonderfully. My piercings are already healing at a much faster rate than those Ive gotten elsewhere. I am sold. For every piercing I ever decide to get, I will definitely be going back to Scarab. It is the best place around in my opinion, by far. Thanks guys!

Recently got a facial piercing done by Kaitlin, very pleased with how it turned out, pricing, as well as the options I was able to choose from (needing to hide my piercing was a must) both Kaitlin and John were very professional and thorough with the questions I had and explaining the whole process, luckily they were able to see me right away. I love the studio, seemed cozy but still professional. I’ve been doing research for months to choose a place to do my piercing and based of off reviews and of word of mouth I knew they wouldn’t disappoint. I’m so happy to have a new place to go to that’s fairly close to me, driving the hour to Syracuse is well worth it.

Kaitlin was awesome. Ive had two peircings done by her, forward helix and inner cartilage. She was extremely precise and made sure I was comfortable. She patiently worked with me to find the exact location on my ears that would be comfortable (since I wear glasses). The process was quick and there was little pain. I would highly recommend this place. Its clean and the staff is knowledgeable and always nice.
Loved the work I got at scarab! I got my nipples pierced by Kaitlin and her apprentice. They were both awesome! Kaitlin did the actual piercing and her apprentice just started the placement. She did it so quick and helped me feel relaxed. She was also very focused and paid attention to every detail of my body. I got them 3 days ago and they haven’t hurt AT ALL (i know everyone is different). Very minimal bleeding and no swelling. She did a great job! Definitely go to scarab!
The most experienced piercers in the Syracuse area in my opinion. Id never let anyone else do a piercing since Ive experienced the professionalism and skill of Kaitlin. I had my septum done and my conch, both healed well and had no issues. Definitely recommend this place to anyone willing to pay for skill!
I have gotten the bulk of my piercings done at Scarab and have loved them all. The staff is very knowledgeable about the best practices to use for piercings and tattoos and all of the equipment and jewelry are of high quality and very safe. Despite getting some piercings with traditionally high rejection rates, none of my piercings form Scarab have ever been rejected by my body. They are very thorough in making sure that piercings are placed in the right areas so that they wont catch on anything and equally as thorough with giving you instructions for the care of your modifications. The staff is always pleasant and helpful and theyre great about accepting walk-ins, at least for piercings. Ive never had a bad experience here and recommend it to people all the time! Best place in Syracuse for tattoos and piercings.
The owner is an amazing person. He takes the time to really explain things. The shop is very clean which you can see from their procedures and practices. Everything is sealed up in autoclave bags and the staff change their gloves every time. I have been there many times and everything has been great. They communicate correct healing steps for piercings and tattoos, and honestly care about all their customers. Best shop in Syracuse.
Amazing!! Cleanest shop I have ever been in. 2005 I came in to get a botched septum piercing fixed. After that I have never gone anywhere else. I don’t even live in Syracuse anymore but I will still only get pierced at this shop. I travel back for piercing and scarification. John does amazing work and has the highest standards in the industry! Do your self a favor and never go anywhere else!!!!
I went to Scarab after doing a lot of research on the piercing I wanted to get and what I should look for in a piercer. I saw the amazing reviews and made an amazing choice of going to Scarabs. I was very nervous to get my septum pierced but my piercer, Kaitlin, was so chill which helped me relax. She did an amazing job and answered any questions I had for her. this was over a week ago, and Im so glad I went there. Its healing perfectly and I couldnt be happier with the result.

I have been going to Scarab since the day they opened. I have gotten 4 cartilage piercings, 2 personal piercings, a labret, ears stretched from 14g to 00, and 2 tattoos completed under the roof of 215 Walton St. I can wholeheartedly say they are the best. The emphasize cleanliness and care, while making sure the client is comfortable. The knowledge they poses on their craft is impressive. They make sure you know what you are getting into, and how to take care of your body modifications long after you leave. Not only have they become my good friends, but I recommend them to anyone and everyone!
Piercing experience is wonderful, my sister who is 9 and extremely scared of getting her ears pierced even said she would love to come here when shes ready! ive been pierced by both John and Kaitlin, who were very gentle and quick. Will be returning when i figure out what i want next.
I got my septum and navel done here, the process was fine but the jewelry used for fresh piercings is not meant to be worn during the swelling period. My septum got a piercing bump on both sides even after cleaning/soaking it twice a day with the saline solution they sell. Not the worst but not the best.
I have gone to Scarab 3 times now. First time was back in 2005 to get a navel piercing, I believe Jon did that and he was amazing. He made me laugh a few times before the piercing to put me more at ease. I went back in late 2005 for a small tattoo, that was really easy and they guided me through the aftercare.My main reason for the review is my experience on 4/20/13 with Jamie. I got a decent-sized tattoo on my back and she was awesome. She set up the ink and needles while I was there in the room. The room was very clean, the entire shop looked ridiculously clean. She talked to me during the tattoo as I was talking to her. She didnt push me into conversation and also didnt push me to stop talking. I will go back to the shop from now on, as it was one of three tattoo shops I have gotten work at, and the best Ive dealt with.
My friend and I came here to get our ears pierced. It was her first time getting a piercing (she got her lobes pierced) and I got a tragus piercing. The woman who did the piercings was absolutely wonderful. She was very patient, and even kept the shop open past closing for us. My friend is afraid of needles, and the woman did a great job keeping her calm and comfortable. Overall, the shop was very comfortable, clean, and cozy. Would definitely recommend for piercings.
I had gotten my nostril pierced here in October of 2012. Being someone who is scared of needles, but real determined to get a nose ring, I was incredibly nervous. John had such a kind demeanor and talked to me throughout the whole before, during, and after piercing procedure. He even told me everything he was doing sterilization wise, and what to always be wary of in other shops. I left extremely happy in my piercing and extremely confident in the cleanliness of the shop.At another point in time, I had a seamless hoop in my nose put in by another shop. They really, really messed it up. Not knowing what to do, and the (horrible) other shop not knowing either, I made a call to Scarab to see if they would help me. They said they would, and I went to the shop, met with John, and he fixed it, not asking for any sort of payment for his time. Seriously, a wonderful guy, artist, and shop owner. I know where to come again if I decide to get another piercing.
Literally the most professional tattoo/piercing shop Ive ever been too! Can genuinely tell the artists care about the integrity and well-being of their clients; and are able to provide all the essential knowledge needed to care for piercings. Definitely would recommend it to others.
John pierced my nostril to match my existing one on the opposite side. He was very professional and took his time to make sure everything was even. The studio and piercing area was clean & tidy. Ill definitely come back for more modifications in the future!
Ive gotten a few piercings done here over the years - chest dermal, conch, and nipples. I believe Kaitlin has done all of them! She was quick, nice, and flawless. Unfortunately the chest dermal rejected (however I was prepared that this was a possibility) long ago but it is what it is. Very pretty jewelry options as well.

I went in to get my paired double nostril piercings fixed with John! I had them done awhile back and they looked decent if you were to look at me face-to-face but from above, they were so crooked.John took his time to carefully mark the new placements and double-checked with me consistently to make sure I was happy with them.I cannot say enough good things about Scarab!The entire team knows what they’re doing & they have really perfected their craft.(This is the before & after! What a difference!)
Extremely clean and professional. I got my tattoo last night with Nik. He was extremely professional and made the 2.5 hour of tattooing easy and stress less. I asked him to add on to a piece that i got from another artist a couple years ago and he did an excellent job putting the 2 together. Great place. Excellent artists. Highly recommended!!

I’m unsure of my experience mostly because of the price point for the jewelry and piercing. I couldn’t find any jewelry for one ear piercing that would be below $130. I spent around $150 with tip and feel like I was ripped off big time. The staff was very friendly, patient, good hearted, and reassuring that made up for the hefty price tag. If I didn’t have such a long drive, I probably would have walked out after hearing the small ear stud that I really wanted would have cost me $256 for one piercing. I about had a heartattack. I would highly suggest lowering your prices or including lower cost jewelry to be more fair. I probably will never return or recommend your place to others. You lost my business, I was planning on getting a few other piercings as well and had to turn down two other piercings that same night after hearing how much one would cost me. Unbelievable how you rip people off there with your prices!No I was not told there were options without gems for the faux rook. I was only shown gems. I was going to choose the smallest/cheapest gem option but I knew I definitely wouldn’t be happy with that one, just to save a few more bucks. Most places include the jewelry WITH the piercing not charge twice as much. I was only shown the plain hoops for the earlobe piercings that I decided to wait on Bc I was already being charged so much.
Wanted to get a piercing but found they are not piercing under masks. I love that they are following covid-19 guidelines. I will gladly wait to insure my safety and the safety of the staff as well
I went there to get my nipples pierced. Kaitlin made the experience much better then I expected. She was very chill and made me feel comfortable. I would definitely recommend her and Scarab to anyone! Everyone there is amazing!
I never knew a good piercing place until I came to Scarab. My piercings always had issues when I went elsewhere. One day, from the reviews online, I decided to go to Scarab. What a huge difference! Staff was very friendly, professional, and my piercings healed perfectly. Even when I had a question, they were quick to help me. Excellent place for all body modification needs.
Ive been going to Scarab for over a decade now. Ive gotten 2 tattoos done there by an artists who had moved onto another shop and 5 piercings. Both traguss, rook, tongue and belly button. All of them done by John and Kaitlin. Because of the cleanliness of the shop theyve been my go to pierces.
Extremely clean studio with a warm, welcoming, spa-like atmosphere. No sketchy vibe or intimidation, no dive-y headshop mentality. The staff take cleanliness seriously and go to great lengths to avoid cross contamination. These guys are real professionals.Ive been visiting Scarab for over 15 years now and would not visit any other studio. They offer a broad range of services compared to other shops, too - I got my scarification done here nearly 12 years ago.
I visited here pretty frequently while I was an undergrad at SU, receiving piercings & tattoos, I try to stop by whenever Im in town. John is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about the body modification procedures he performs and offers in his shop. Their tattoo artists are very talented and they have a great selection of body jewelry. Theyre also an APP (association of professional piercers) certified shop. I wouldnt go anywhere else in Syracuse for my modification needs.
I had a large BOLD solid tattoo on my forearm from Scarab Body Arts. The service was amazing, their artists are very good, and the atmosphere is VERY clean and professional. People compliment my tattoo all the time, because though it has been about 4-5 years, it looks brand new. I have three other friends who also got very large detailed pieces there and they are also very happy with the results. I highly recommend Scarab!!

The first time I went there the two girls who helped me were very sweet and made feel comfortable when I got my nose pierced! I had to go back because my piercing popped out and this time a guy helped me get it back in and didnt charge me a thing. definitely will be coming back in the future.

I love Caitlin. I really appreciate shops that have both a Male and female piercer so that people can be more relaxed and comfortable while getting pierced. I also really love their piercing room. It was ver zen and helped me relax.
I cannot say enough good things about Scarab Body Arts. It is one of the cleanest and neatest tattoo/piercing studios I have ever have the pleasure of having work done in. It is not one of those shops with a big open floor and no privacy, each client is focused on individually in a very serene and clean (cant say that enough) environment. A few years ago, my boyfriend at the time got a large tattoo done by Jamie Santos, and it came out beautifully. One of my friends got a piercing there and was very pleased with it. Personally, I have purchased jewelry/had jewelry in a piercing changed, and had one tattoo done at Scarab, by Jamie Santos. It came out amazingly and I had absolutely no issues or complaints, and I am going back for my next tattoo with Jamie in just a couple of weeks. Scarab not only offers INCREDIBLY talented artists but is not a studio that is going to over charge you, so that is always a plus. Anytime someone asks where they should go for body modifications in Central New York, I always recommend Scarab.
After nearly 20 years of having 22mm plugs in my ears i felt it was time to get them closed. John performed my procedure and i couldnt be happier with the results. I have been in dozens of tattoo shops over the course of my body modification journey and hanging out with my sister that is a peircing artist and this place follows the sort over the top sterile procedure you would and should expect from professionals. I went to John from my home in Dayton, Ohio because his reputation and work portfolio wdre amazing and I am so glad I did. He and Caitlyn, (hope i spelled it right) who assisted were professional, welcoming, and facilitated what felt less like a procedure and more like a celebration of the end of an era. The pricing was more than reasonable for the work that was done especially considering there are not a lot of artists that offer this service and most of them dont have near the experience performing it that this team does. So glad I didnt pay a plastic surgeon a rediculous amount of money to do a worse job in an environment that couldnt hold a candle to this one. My only regret in all of this is that I wish I lived closer so i could hang out with these people! If you want to get your body modified or rectify a modification dont go anywhere else if you can help it!Thank you all so much for making this an amazing experience!
Love this place! I get my tattoos done here be Sean Morgan and recently went for a daith piercing with John Joyce. Never had a bad experience, everyone is always awesome. And people constantly ask me where I get my tattoo done because theyre beautiful.

I loved this place got my nose pierced a year or twould ago for my birthday and John was amazing. Unfortunately I got sick ( cold season) and snagged the ring out. I wish I would have went back right away but life gets in the way . Wither way . Im excited to be going tomorrow to get it done by again. They are clean friendly and amazing aervice. Every piercing I have ever gotten (9 total) and all 8 of my tattoos have been from Scarab. Cant say enough good things about the place. Definitely the cleanest, most professional shop Ive been to with the friendliest and most knowledgeable staff. Anytime anyone asks for suggestions of places to go for body modification I always send them to Scarab. I have never had a problem with any of my work healing and I know even if I did I could go to them with any problems I might have.Anyone who steps foot into Scarab is immediately aware of the clean, safe environment and anyone who has TRULY had work done there knows that every staff person strictly follows sterilization procedures to the letter. Thats one of the reasons I wont go anywhere else and why I recommend it to anyone who is looking to get some work done.In response to the reviewer who supposedly got MRSA from the shop, as someone who works in the medical field and has experience dealing with MRSA patients, MRSA is all over the place so is actually quite common for most people to come in contact with on a daily basis, whether it be in a public restroom, public transportation, hospitals, offices, etc. Even if you had a paper cut or a blister and came into contact with it you could contract it. To be able to pinpoint where you got it to an exact location is truly miraculous, and quite honestly, unbelievable. Actually, your whole review sounds pretty unbelievable.

I went there to have a tattoo covered up, yes it was a big tattoo. A guy named JD was there, looked at it and said it was too nice to be covered up and that it is impossible to cover up at the same time and he would not even help me at all ...he totally disregarded me like I was crazy for wanting to cover up a nice tattoo . It doesnt matter what he thinks its my body and if I wanted to covered up I have the right to cover it. ....I stopped at another tattoo shop . they were more than happy to help me and didnt make me feel bad for covering up my tattoo ..even though Ive had work from scarab before I will not be going back again after that experience. I cannot believe how small minded they have become..

I went and got a tattoo here and three days later I had huge red spots all over my back and in my tattoo. After not being able to take the pain anymore i went to the doctor and I had MRSA. I now have a quarter sized hole in my back and a dime sized one on my leg so I can barely walk. Ive been on medication for 10 days now and It still isnt gone. Not a clean place I wouldnt go unless you want to get MRSA.

2022-02-17I went last week to get my septum pierced and Kaitlyn was wonderful! She explained everything in depth: the process of getting the actual piercing, the healing process, and how to care for it. She made sure I understood everything and felt confident and at ease. It had been quite a while since Ive gotten anything pierced, so I was pretty nervous! But Kaitlyn never made fun or tried to rush me. She was with me every step of the way, and kept checking in with me and was consistent with her reassurance. On top of all that, the actual piercing was almost completely painless! Im so happy with it. If you plan on getting a piercing done, this is the place to do it!

2022-05-04I’ve had two piercings done by John and going forward, Scarab will be the ONLY place that I go for piercings! Very clean, professional, and caring. I was walked through every step of the process from start to finish and aftercare. Very gentle (as gentle as you can be getting pierced!) and makes sure you’re comfortable. I would recommend anyone thinking about a piercing to come here!

2022-04-23I had 4 different piercings done by John in the past year and he is absolutely amazing! He makes sure the piercing is a good fit anatomically and makes suggestions if necessary. He puts great effort into making sure placement is perfect. Everything is explained with great detail and all my questions answered. He told me everything he was doing as he was about to do it so there was no surprises. One of my piercings got very irritated/swollen and he got me right in to put in a different type of jewelry to allow for better healing. 1000% recommend!

2022-03-03By far the most professional shop I’ve ever been to, and I’ve been to quite a few lol. I actually watched them autoclave all of the instruments and jewelry right before my appointment, and I could tell that John knew exactly what he was doing. He was able to explain the piercing that I was getting (septum) and how certain anatomy can affect it in different ways. He addressed every concern that I had and made sure I was as comfortable as possible, and before I knew it the piercing was over with little to no pain at all. He even messaged me the next day to check up on the piercing. Highly recommend coming here! If you do, you know you’ll be in good hands.

I was made very comfortable while getting my first piercing here after coming in with a lot of anxiety and the piercing turned out amazing. 2021-11-17The people at the front desk were very kind and welcoming. No one was rushing you like other places. They accommodated my daughter and I to get piercings. We had Kaitlyn do our ear piercings and she was fantastic. Very gentle, didnt feel a thing. My daughter, who is 8, was terrified before coming. During the visit she was comfortable and said it didnt hurt at all. I called so many tattoo and piercing shops and nobody wanted to pierce my daughters ears and people were a little snappy. I highly recommend this place.

2022-04-22I can’t praise Scarab Body Arts enough. I’ve gone here over the years for my navel, nostril, septum, and my tattoo. Everyone is professional, knowledgeable, and helpful. The shop is extremely clean and John always takes his time to make sure your piercing is located appropriately according to your anatomy. I went today to get my septum done and I barely felt it. Their jewelry selection is always top notch; deciding on a what piece to go with will be the only difficult aspect of your visit.
