Decided to come here while visiting Corning and wasn’t disappointed. The front desk staff were great. As members of the NY Hall of Science we have free access to a bunch of other places as well. Didn’t have our membership cards thinking we didn’t need them. Well the front desk said to call the hall of science, verify our membership, and pass the phone to them. After about 5 minutes they let us.The place is fun for kids. It is a bit on the small side but there’s plenty of things to go for a couple of hours. There’s a live animal section (mainly reptiles, fish, and frogs). And there’s a section to touch starfish. The more interactive stuff is very kid friendly, especially for younger children.
This little science center gave us 1 full hour of entertainment. My 3 yr old and 1 year old loved it. We were not fans of the 2nd floor, lots of wasted space with the murder mystery room (not appropriate for you children) and a big table of foods with magnifying glasses to read plates was a bore. I posted pictures of the fun rooms for the kids
Much for kids under 10 age. Good place to spend around an hour or 2 with kids. I wish they had more stuff to occupy pree teens. Science center is clean, safe and good helpful staff. I liked petting the reptiles. Kids under 10 have a lot of stuff to do and see around. Once visit is good. You can pet water animals too.
Awesome place I wish I live near to science center . It has activities from 1 year to 10 years kids ..You must go at least once and the wow thing is its ticket too cheap only $8 . They have different ideas for kids to understand science even if your kids are young they will have at least fun and good time
As a Liberty Science Museum member, we visited the Ithaca Science Center for free. Obviously a lot smaller than LSC but the museum was smartly packed with lots of hands on experiments. We especially loved the dam the creek where we experimented with various designs using metal blocks to try to build a sturdy dam. Friendly staff and everything was clean and organized!
Great place to visit but is definitely more entertaining for younger kids. Hands on activities left and right, honestly made me a bit uncomfortable now just after the pandemic. Some interesting exhibits like the ocean and the animal one. The workers are working from their heart it is obvious. Helpful friendly and informative. The one thing I would add is more challenging things for q bit older children (beyond 8). There is plenty of space to expand.
I volunteered here for almost three years and it was great. Kids and adults love this science museum. I still have a blast there and when I was a kid I LOVED it. My favorite part is the touch tank, animal room, and discovery box rooms (with activities you can take out). They also have seasonal exhibited which are always really great. Kids live it and they learn so much!
Beautiful live animals, engaging hands on experiments, and interesting facts about the local Finger Lakes environment, the Ithaca Sciencecenter has it all. Spend time indoors on a rainy day, or enjoy the interactive playground outside where kids can explore the science of sounds and motion. Though a few exhibits are still closed due to COVID, many great ones remain open. A great place for families to visit with children 12 and younger, and the 18 hole mini golf, filled with science facts, is fun for ALL ages. Make sure you bring a mask, as patrons are required to mask up indoors.
It’s a pretty fun place to visit. There is something for kids of all ages to enjoy, even adults. We have the yearly membership, and it was worth the 90$ because if there is nothing else going on, we know that our daughter will always have fun here. The exhibits aren’t changed a lot throughout the year, but there is enough to do there that our daughter is happily occupied for a couple of hours. Big hits with the kids are the big blue blocks and the outside playground.
I went with 3 adults and enjoyed the experience. Many, many of the exhibits were closed as it was a rainy day during limited COVID operations but for $8 and limited openings, we still thought it was worth it.I am giving a 4 star review instead of 5 because I was surprised by the touch tanks. Although the creatures are interesting, The horseshoe crabs seem to spend their entire day trying to climb to escape the tank, then knock themselves over, and then try to get themselves right ways up again. It seems cruel!
Its a wonderful place to experience and learn new things for the kids. My grandson and I had a great time hes going to be 12 yrs old this month and still found it to be interesting and enjoyed the playground. Its seems to be geared towards more towards the younger children althoughi as an adult found it fun as well. I saw so much excitement in the smaller childrens eyes. We loved the reptiles and turtles. It was a beautiful mothers day gift. Thank you for such a wonderful place for childrens mind to explore.
Have driven by this place so many times and finally had a chance to bring my family. So happy we got to go. $8/ person, seniors are $7 (super cheap). SOOOOO much to do. Kids can literally not break anything and it’s a whole day pass. All hands on stuff for kids to learn about science, marine life, water- everything. My daughter loved it from start to finish. Wish we got there in the morning, because you can pack a lunch and bring drinks and just go out to the car/ bring a lunch to the playground- eat and go right back on to the next activity. Such a cool way to spend a day. Will def. be going back to spend more time/ see new changes.
Fun, interesting, and very family friendly! The entire facility is stroller accessible, including the outdoor playground. Plenty of exhibits with wonderful guides. A special section for 0-4 year olds thats a great, safe area to work out the wiggles. Community Room where you can eat any lunches or snacks, youve brought. Forgot food? No problem, there are vending machines. Really appreciated that the food set up wasnt a nickel and dime trap! Friendly, helpful staff, and the membership is a great deal. The lowest level covers an entire household, whereas some science centers only cover two parents and two children.
I brought a 4 year old and 17 month-old and they had a blast. I cant speak more highly about our experience. Most exhibits are hands on fun and so innovative. My 4 year old loved the space game/ simulator for walking on the moon and my younger loved the touch tank. The staff was super friendly and the student volunteer who guided my son through a laughing cup was excellent. He spoke so clearly and answered all of my sons questions during the activity. Although young, he was an effective teacher and one of the memorable moments of our visit. The admission was $8 per person and I felt this was inexpensive for the day we enjoyed. We spent 3 1/2 hours here. There is a lunch room if you bring your own food, and they will get messy during experiments. Mostly this is just water or bubble solution but come with plans to play and learn!
Great place to spend a morning or afternoon with kids. Good variety of activities for different ages, but would say the sweet spot is 5-8. You can get a membership surprisingly cheaply which paid for itself after a few visits and gets you into hundreds of other childrens museums throughout the country.
By far the best science center I have ever been to. Took my 3 and 4 year olds and we stayed for 6.5 hours. They dont have food so make sure you pack a lunch. Its not a perfect 5 stars because they need a really good deep cleaning. They spot clean every night but there is dust in the areas that are not touched. So if you are sensitive to dust, this isnt the place for you. They just opened a new pet vet exhibit that could use some work. The batteries were dead in the scale so except for washing your pet and listening to it its heart, there was nothing you could do in that area. Some bandages, play syringes, etc would make that area so much more fun for the kids. However, I am nitpicking. 100% worth the visit!!! Great place.
Fun, interactive, great for kids of all ages. 2 levels, with a lot to see & do. Playground & minigolf available during nice weather. Small touch tank, movie room with documentaries, & animal room inside. Exhibits are fantastic! Staff are friendly & knowledgeable. The science center is always busy, if your kids dont like crowds be aware. During poor weather indoor exhibits are especially packed. Staff are very receptive to special needs kids, & do offer sensory kits. Again, be aware of what your kid can handle. Can be very busy, loud, & not much personal space. Parking lot available, but fills up quickly. Some parking on adjoining streets.
Kids enjoyed the time. The outside play area is phenomenal, but open seasonally or as weather permits. Gift shop was not fantastic. The exhibits are week maintained and fun for all ages. The touch pool we enjoyed, but the staff is very cautious that there isnt the possibility of anyone maybe getting injured a little. But the staff was great at interacting with the kids and engaging the adults as well.
AMAZING. Weve visited a lot of science museums all over the country with our kids and this has been the best. Lots of stuff to do and great educational exhibits. We spent 2 hours but easily could have spent 3 times that. Highlights included the 0-4 area and the outdoor play area.
We love the Sciencenter. Been there a few times as a family. My daughter is 2 and my son is 8 and there is plenty of stuff there for both of them. Lots of hands-on and such a diverse array the different subsets of science. Theres plenty for everyone. If you have children, this place is a must and I guarantee you that you, as an adult, can learn plenty too.
A wonderful place that we brought my 2 yr old to. We spent about 3 hours there and had a fun time. I suggest bringing extra clothes though because they have 2 water stations that kid naturally gravitate to so its hard to keep them dry. Overall, its a great place and we will be going back!
This is an awesome place to take your children. There are themed exhibits and most everything is OK to touch. The staff members are kind and helpful. We visited once and decided to purchase a membership. It is a great investment at $90/year for parents and children. Extended family and caregivers are just a few dollars more.
We just love coming to the Sciencenter! It is a great place to take a kid of any age. Theres plenty to see and do. I love the small animal encounters, toddler play area and the special exhibits. My sister n always has a great time when he visits. Great for any season as well!
This is a great place for families with young children. Plenty of fun exhibits that the kids never get bored with. If you live close enough to frequent the place consider becoming a member. The fee will pay for itself in a couple of visits. You also get access to some other attractions as well.
Our kids absolutely love it here!! And sci camp in the summer time is a HUGE hit. Fun activities and exhibits change every so often so it is never boring! Also have a nice little play area for younger kids which is perfect for them & seperate from the bigger kids area
The Sciencenter is fun, interactive, and has a variety of exhibits. I was very impressed because they have an axolotl salamander aka Mexican Walking Fish. My kids enjoyed the 2 hours we spent there especially the playground. This would be better with some exhibit upgrades and a snack bar.
Its around $8/person for barely any hands on learning. They have too many theatre based learning centers which are barely, if ever used. The young childrens place is nice, but definately lacking in the tactile department. I go two times a year with my boys hoping they have new things but am always disappointed.
Really fun place to bring kids. They have things to do for all ages. There is a designated section for younger kids that had its own for, so you can let them roam and play without worrying about them running off. There is a really cool outside playground as well. Really affordable as well, compared to other childrens museums.Downside, there is no on site food options, but they do allow you to bring your own. That being said... The Ithaca Brewing Co is only a 5 minute drive away, they have great food and are awesome with kids!
This is our home away from home. There are so many interactive exhibits, my little ones have different stuff to try all the time, and I can either kick back or get thoroughly engaged, depending on what Im up for. The staff is super lovely and helpful, and its always clean and inviting (even the restrooms). Love it.
The place is great for any ages. My kids are 12 and they had so much fun. The people who work their also very nice. One of my girls forgot her glasses while we were there. Next day I called from Canada, where we were vacationing and they packed it for us and shipped it to our home in California. By the time we came back from vacation, the box was waiting for us.Thank you very much!
Its science! Great place for family fun. Kids over 10 likely wont be too into it. I took my nieces here over the summer when they came to visit. Age 4 and 9. The oldest enjoyed it, but it was the group participation/discussion, and doing things together that made it enjoyable for her.
I loved this place as a kid. They always had changing exhibits so there was always something new to see. My favorite thing there hands down was the water dam with the rubber ducks. The outdoor area was great for running around and getting your engery out. There were also a couple of small live creatures on display that they would sometimes take out and show you.It is a great family experience and I recommend going here.
This is a really great hand on center to bring young kids too. Pretty much every exhibit is hand on. A few are in rough shape and could use some attention but it does not take away from the overall experience. Prices are fair and it does not seem to get too crowded on weekends.
Lots of things for kids to do, from ages 2-99. From live animals to science oriented games, you can easily spend 2-3 hours without ever getting bored. Love the outdoor area to let the kids get some real wiggles out, while the recycle/recreation area lets them reimagine new things out of discarded materials. Well worth the price of admission.
This is a great place to take your kids. It is a lot of fun and interesting and adults can learn as well. It is near the lake the lake thats up in Ithaca and Cayuga Lake is absolutely awesome and great to take a kayak out on if you want a wild ride. LOL the Ithaca area is amazing for waterfalls, shopping, learning about other cultures, Im going to college. They have the best veterinary hospital in the world.
I started coming here when i was very young and even now i still enjoy the sciencenter. there is always something for everyone, and exhibits change a lot, so you get a different experience every time. safe, educational, great for families and people of all ages. highly reccomend.
My wife and I have taken the kids here multiple times the past 2 years. We are members and we get our money worth for sure!!! I have a 5, 3 and 12 yr. old. All of them have fun from the live animals and a you can pet tide pool, to the hundreds of other exhibits on display, there is always something new to see or do!!!!
Boredom sunk in so we decided to explore our options as a family in the cold of winter. The science center seemed to be the logical choice. The place was easy to spot from the highway and plenty of parking. Upon arrival we were greeted with a friendly gentleman at the desk. He was very helpful explaining everything from price to giving a map of the place (great concept). I came in thinking were going to spend an hour Maby and that it was for the kids and us as parent would be bored. Wrong. We spent 2 and a half hours here and for the majority of it, the kids were trying to pry us away from the interactive displays and on to the next. And just when you think you seen it all, they have a gift shop with even cooler things, greeting you on your way out. Awesome.
One of the best places for kids to learn about science concepts. Every item in display is interactive and covers wide range of topics from physics, biology to English. Two floors full of awesomeness. Be prepared to spend at least half a day with your young ones here. There is also an outdoor play ground with many activities. There is a cafeteria but no food available for purchase. There is a papa Jones just 2 minutes walk. You can reenter the place if you go out for lunch. Lots of parking place available. The store has lots of interesting books and toys for kids.
First time there. It was ok. There were quite a few exhibits that were broken or needed some repairs. Elderly women at front desk was not very happy or friendly. Some flyers were outdated, exhibits advertised were already over. Interactive showings were not displayed on front desk with appropriate times. Our grandsons 6yrs. and 3yrs. did enjoy themselves though.
The Ithaca Science Center is a community treasure. Hands on is the focus of learning and exploring all things science. There are large areas for infants through the early years. Older children have special areas too. People of all ages can learn more science at this center. There are lots of volunteers to help with everything. The outside is a great as the inside.
Nice little Museum to take children to. Theres a fun play section with lots of toys including a water-table, a big Lite-Brite wall where kids can play with multi colored pegs, and several other activities. Outside they have a playground for use when the weather is nice. There are science demonstrations which are really fun and interesting. One of the best things about the Sciencenter is that if you have a membership to other museums in New York (including the extremely inexpensive Binghamton Discovery Center), you can get in to this Museum and many others for free which makes it a great destination on a rainy day.
It is a nice place for toddlers to probably age 9. My 11 and 12 year olds were bored fast. Hands on is geared for the little ones. The miniture golf course is not handy cap friendly (wheelchairs). There is a ramp to the delivery doors only, then terminates in to stairs. It does have an elevator to get to the second floor. The amphibian room was nice, but the exhibits were to high up for anyone in wheelchair, or not able to utilize step stools. $8.00 each for entrance fee was high, just to watch your kids.
There really wasnt that much to do, and a lot of things were either broken, dirty, or taped off like at a crime scene? The only nicely kept space was the gift shop where you could buy things. Youd think with a yearly membership of $85 itd be state of the art, or at least clean.
We all really like the sciencecenter, and o would normally give it five stars for both quality and value. However, it seems like a lot of the usually permanent displays are no longer here, and some are showing a considerable amount of wear. I hope that once the traveling exhibit moves out, some of these classics are returned.
The Science Center is a very friendly and hands on place for all ages and is very welcoming.. your family and friends will enjoy themselves start to finish..the staff is knowledgeable of what they have their..and when youre exploring and activities are done there gift shop it has lots of cool and interesting toys that will leave you with Unforgettable memories so please when you have time will want to do something family fun and oriented the science center in Ithaca is the place to go
Amazing place!!! So fun and interactive. DO NOT GO THERE EXPECTING TO DROP OFF KIDS OR IGNORE THEM AND BE ON YOUR PHONES!!!!This is a real place of learning and science, volunteers and friendly faces make it even nicer.MY ONLY PROBLEM IS WITH ALL THE SELFISH ENTITLED DBAGS THAT COME TO YELL AT THE STAFF OR COMPLAIN ABOUT ABSOLUTLEY NOTHING.other than that Id have to say that it is one of my, if not the most favorite places on earth.
Will never bring my child here. They have a dont care policy on whether or not sex offenders can go there. They are even allowed to have a membership. This is a place where children go all the time and they allow this to happen no way!!! They should be more strict on this.

2022-02-26Its nice for one time visit to show your kids how science works. Not literally science, its basically fun science, like the air pressure, and light etc. You can touch some rare fish and snakes too. Its really fun for seeing the creativity in the kids and makers of the center. I liked it. There are sanitizer booths everywhere. Its real nice.

2021-06-16It is a wonderful place more geared towards all elementary aged kids. My kids had an amazing time. We also enjoyed playing mini golf. Though it was a little hard for little kids but every hole was science based and very interesting. Overall a great place to spend a few hours with young kids.

2022-05-05My kids are young and one is on the spectrum. The age appropriate area was nice and it had a door. It was frustrating that people would come the in to use the bathroom and leave the door open. It only take a second for your kid to runaway. I would suggest bringing someone to help. Lots of hands on activity and lots of space.

2022-01-21As a kid, I really love the Sciencenter when I visited there, mainly during my days in school for a nice field trip. But now, years later after so long, I say the Sciencenter is well worth it after I payed them a visit today. The exhibits are incredible, the way on how it looks is truly amazing and I also love on how it mixed in education with a nice fun nature to it which results in a combination thats well, fun and educational. I say, definitely pay them a visit if you havent yet if your either in the Ithaca area or in a different part of the Central New York area. Or most likely both .

2021-11-10We have been to a few science centers with our kid and we werent looking forward to anything spectacular here given it was a frigid day for outdoor activity and we needed an outlet for the toddlers energies. We were surprised by what this little place had to offer, not only in terms of the variety of science and technology, but also the quality of what was made available. The whole experience was immersive and I would highly recommend this for any toddler from Pre-K through third grade.

2022-03-22Always good to entertain my kids for a few hours even at 8ish yes old. The number of attractions/stations has dropped since COVID but still fun for all. Mini golf is a highlight and so is the outside play area. If your kids are approaching 8-10 years old then they are likely too old to fully enjoy everything but still will have some fun. When my kids were 1-5 we spent days upon days here.

2022-01-23Absolutely loved this place! Both of my children (4 y.o and 18 months) had a blast and so did I. Extremely interactive and you could easily spend all day there if you dont rush.

2022-03-10The Sciencenter is amazing! It is great for all ages, with many different types of interactive displays. We went last week and my fifteen year old son enjoyed it just as much as he did when he was three. I feel grateful we have such a wonderful resource in our community.

2022-06-21Amazing place. Perfect for kids of all ages. Stayed 4 hours and kids still didn’t want to leave. We also appreciated you could bring your own food and drink in
