Second Chance Rescue NYC Dogs - CONTACT Rescuenycsecondchancerescue.org in Verplanck
Hugo was picked up as a stray in Atlanta, GA. As soon as I saw his picture on Second Chance Rescue, I was in love. Problem was, he was very far away. Jazmean, my contact at SCR, answered all my texts promptly and worked hard to insure I had plenty of pictures and videos. When it was time for Hugo to come up north, Jazmean again insured all went smoothly. We could not have been happier with SCR and we could not be happier with Hugo!
I adopted my dog Mama from NYC Second Change Rescue around 2-3 months ago and am so impressed by the attention and care for their pups! Shelly has been in contact with me since day one and processed my application so quickly so Mama could get to her forever home with me ASAP. She would text along pics of my pup while in foster care as I worked to finalize the adoption process, and I was even sent pics and info about the situation Mama was rescued from. I get text check-ins from Second Chance asking how were doing and helping with follow-up care. I love that we have access to adoptee Facebook groups to ask questions of fellow adopters, it helped me choose a new vet for Mama in Brooklyn. I know NYC Second Chance and Shelly love and care for these dogs so much. I am beyond thankful to NYC Second Chance and cant imagine a more perfect dog for me.
I applied to be a Second Chance Rescue NYC volunteer after following their social media for a couple years. After seeing hard case after hard case they willingly took on I wanted to do more than only contribute financially. After being involved in the rescue as a volunteer I have seen behind the curtain and it is as fabulous as you think it is. The rescue is VERY hands on, helping fosters and adopters work through any issues while celebrating those that adapted so well into their forever family. This rescue works around the clock to vet and place cats and dogs in the right foster or adoptive home. They are extremely thorough with vetting to be sure the cat or dog has the best life possible. I will forever support this amazing rescue! They are what they seem...INCREDIBLE!!!!
You will not find another group of volunteers and staff who are more genuine and motivated to rescue dogs than the people at Second Chance. These people have a heart of gold - they are not in this for adulation or stroking ones ego, and they definitely not here for any sort of personal gains. All the people I have met at Second Chance Rescue are here purely because they care about dogs, they love dogs, and they want to do what they could for dogs. I know this because time and time again everyone steps in when a dog needs help - without question, and often albeit at a cost. The most important part of any organization is its people, and I have no question for all the many people I have come across at Second Chance.
Like many families during the pandemic, being at home seemed like the perfect time to add a new dog to our family. We knew we would have time to give a new addition to the family the love and attention they need. We have been dog people for 30 years, but this was our first experience with adoption. We were surprised at how thorough the vetting process was, but we knew this meant that Second Chance Rescue truly cared about the animals they were rescuing, and ensuring a good fit for both sides. We were concerned about our older dog accepting a new puppy into the family, but we received education, advice and support from the organization. Our fur baby Theo, is a beautiful, healthy, smart, rascally addition to our family. He has truly brought much needed joy and laughter to our home. Keep up the amazing work, NYC Rescue!
Second Chance Rescue are angels on earth! They helped me care for my senior baby when I couldn’t and when no one else would. They go above and beyond for every single animal that crosses their paths and they champion those hard cases when others won’t. If I hit the lotto I’d give them every dime because they deserve it. When I hear the word rescue I think of compassion, love, warmth and going to the ends of the earth to save a life, Second Chance Rescue embodies all of that and beyond. Forever thankful
Second Chance Rescue and their team of volunteers have helped my family find the perfect dog. Finding the right match for our existing difficult dog and 4 cats wasnt easy but we now have adopted a dog that fits in perfectly. The care, both financial and emotional, from the organization and from the volunteers is heartfelt. I have already recommended them to 2 friends who are equally happy with their new dogs. Second Chance does wonders for these animals.
NYCSCR is an amazing organization. They take on the toughest cases and do incredible work to save lives and give animals a second chance. I fostered several dogs and then adopted my amazing puppy Lucy from this org. Lucy was saved from a backyard breeding situation and has changed my life for the better!! This is one of the best rescues out there. ♥️
SCR and Jaime helped me with the newest addition to my family! Stevie fka as Bitsy was brought up from Mississippi this past August and has brought nothing but joy to my home. SCR and their volunteers are responsive and are understanding to what kind of dog would suit you best. My apartment complex has a few weight and breed restrictions and SCR helped to meet each of these. I have another dog, Jagger, and so finding a dog that would be good with him was another obstacle, but we succeeded with Stevie. They transported her directly to me and they were going to take care of her heart worm treatment (she turned out to be negative for heart worm). These people are doing the best kind of work! #becausetheymatter
We recently adopted our puppy Hippo through Second Chance Rescue. We were very impressed with the guidance given by volunteer counselors and the thorough process through which potential adopters are screened and prepped for the adoption. They do their best to match you with a dog that fits into your home and family, and SCR makes sure all dogs are in good health and up to date on vaccinations and treatments before they come home with you. They also have a great network of contacts and social groups for support after adoption. If youre thinking of welcoming a pet into your home, please consider a rescue dog. There are so many wonderful animals out there who need your love and support!
Jamie and her team at SCR provided individualized support when finding our newest family member. She shared a lot of information and helped us find the best fit for our family. We were united with our new pal Randy quickly. Having an adoption agent to guide us through the process was extremely helpful. Thank you Jamie and SCR!
Second Chance Rescue NYC Dogs is the gold standard of animal rescue. I was introduced to SCR after they pulled Mopsy, a dog that was attacked at an over crowded shelter, and they sent her to get the very best in medical care. I met Mopsy at the vet and became her foster when she was cleared to leave the hospital. Since then, we have adopted Mopsy and she is now a permanent family member. If it wasnt for SCR who says, Yes when others say, No she would not be alive right now. Thousands of dogs, just like Mopsy have been saved in the 10 years this rescue has been in existence. From the top down, the people at SCR are THE best.
I have fostered and have also adopted dogs from this first class rescue. I used to foster for other rescues and NONE can compare to how amazing this organization is. They spend a lot on medical care for their animals and use the best specialty centers in the city. They provide quality care and love for their animals and it shows. Once you foster for Second Chance Rescue NYC, you wont want to foster elsewhere. Very kind and warm people 😊
I cannot say enough wonderful things about this rescue! From my initial inquiry to the day I picked up Willow the process went very smoothly. Shelly was the best adoption coordinator. Very responsive to my emails and texts and provided me updates regularly. If you live in southern Maine please consider adopting thru this rescue. They truly care and are terrific to work with!
SCR is truly one of best, hardest working rescues out there. They work tirelessly to save the toughest cases - mostly neglected, abused, and injured animals from down south - and rehabilitate them for their forever homes in the NYC area. We are one of many families who adopted at the height of pandemic, and the folks at SCR NYC made sure that we got the best dog for our family. Their communication is great and you can tell the people who make this rescue happen truly believe that every pet matters. Its been over six months since we adopted out little chihuahua mix and we still regularly donate to them so that they continue doing the great work they do.
Bless them for the amazing work they do. True angels. We are so grateful to them for our dog. They saved him & made sure they got him the best medical treatment that he so desperately needed as they do for each and every rescue. The adoption process is straightforward and they go to great lengths to make sure their rescues go to good, loving homes. Grateful, thankful, blessed to have found Second Chance Rescue NYC.
I am a first time dog owner (have had cats for years but always wanted to add a dog to our family). I had applied to many rescues, and some did take the time to speak with and interview me, but Second Chance took it further than any other. They reviewed my application, really taking the time to understand what I was looking for and if I would be the best fit for one of their pups. They also spoke with 3 references and conducted a video (due to Covid) call to see my house and neighborhood. This gave me a great deal of confidence that they were actually understanding both what I would be able to handle and that their puppy would be in a safe place. They knew just the right guy for me as he was currently in a home with cats, and that was important to me. The foster mom and I had a lengthy chat about the puppy and the process to go and get him was easy. She gave me helpful tips and insights, and both she and Second Chance have stayed in touch with me via text and Facebook - they have also connected me with other rescue moms and dads for sharing tips, asking questions, etc. and I feel very supported. I highly recommend Second Chance to anyone looking to rescue a very special dog and am amazed at the good things they are doing to save these pups in need.
Second chance rescue NYC is the most professional rescue I have ever had the pleasure of working with. their volunteers take every step of the adoption process seriously, they do their best to find the perfect homes for their rescued animals. All volunteers are so passionate about what they do, they are so quick to help no matter what the question or the time of day! It is so comforting adopting an animal from them because you know they will always be there Incase you need anything. We adopted our pup 2 years ago and we are looking to add a second pup to the family from second chance rescue NYC. If you are unable to adopt donate to second chance rescue NYC so they can keep saving animals in need and find them loving homes. ADOPT DONT SHOP!
Second Chance Rescue was so helpful and responsive throughout the whole adoption process. You can tell that they genuinely care about their animals, and they’re very helpful in matching you with the pet that is a good fit. Shelly was so nice and kept me informed at every step, and sent many pics and updates. She checks in to make sure my dog is adjusting well. There is also a great Facebook community with other adopters to connect and ask questions.
We adopted our fur baby Sparky from Second Chance Rescue. They are very thorough and professional about how they go about the adoption process. We love Sparky and am so glad to have him in our lives. What they are doing for the unwanted is amazing!!! Adopt from them and you will not regret it.
The rescue was great in helping us find a pup that best fit our family. They were very responsive and thorough throughout the whole experience. Even after we got our beautiful girl, they continue to be a part of our life by providing helpful advice to any questions we have. 10/10 would reccomended that you use them.
We had the most amazing experience getting our puppy with second chance rescue! We only had one requirement for a dog, that it had to be as young as possible as I wanted it to grow up with my young children! We got lucky at 8 weeks and everything since then has been wonderful! Great experience!
I am so thankful for Second Chance Rescue! They helped me get the perfect dog and always make sure people are matched with the right furry family members. It’s a smooth process, and you can tell they really care. They also take on the emergency cases no one else would and work with an amazing team of vets and volunteers to make sure every dog and cat gets a second chance.
DONT SET UP RECURRING DONATION PAYMENTS UNLESS YOU PLAN ON GIVING THEM MONEY FOR LIFE OR CANCELLING YOUR CREDIT CARD. I started donating in 2016 and wanted my account cancelled LAST YEAR. The payment went thru paypal on their site but I do not have an account with paypal so to cancel, they - meaning this organization - has to do it manually. They refuse to do so as they tell me to contact Paypal which tells me to contact them - and they have been taking my money without my consent for months. Now I have to call my credit card company every month to dispute the charge. I just hope they actually help animals because the way they seek money is shady AF! And this behavior makes me question the legitimacy of their entire organization.**** UPDATE: After I posted this, I emailed the person who responded to this review and was then contacted by the financial officer at SCR NYC. I received a full refund of the money that was being charged to my card without my consent and cancellation of the payments moving forward as well as an apology for not addressing this sooner. This was all done by the staff which seemed very interested in getting this resolved immediately for me but not from the founder who denied my petition to begin with. To the STAFF of SCR NYC: Thank you!!!
Everyone involved in the adoption process at Second Chance was great! Volunteers, drivers, fosters, admin. were all supportive & very helpful! They write perfect “resumes” for the animals so that they find the appropriate homes. They continue to follow the pet’s progress even after their adoption which is wonderful b/c they want to make sure the animal is doing well & that the new families are happy. Also, if the adopters have any questions the group is always “ready, willing & able” to assist. I appreciate that greatly! Thank you again Second Chance Rescue!!!D. Zegos
I adopted my dog from NYCSCR about a year ago, after speaking to a few other places. NYCSCR and the people who were in contact with me were professional, asked me a lot of questions (which was great) and made sure I was well vetted before allowing me to become a dog owner. They sent all my dogs paperwork, followed up, and kept in touch to see how my sweet girl was doing. They have a wonderful community of rescuers and people to help through the process. I would adopt a dog from them again and I recommend them and had a great adoption experience . They also do amazing work rescuing all the animals.
I have had the honor of knowing this rescue well. They truly value the animals in their care and put their needs first. They do not adopt dogs into homes that aren’t a good fit and always take their dogs back when in need. This group is the hardest working and most competent rescue that I have had the pleasure to interact with.
They do an Amazing job with all the rescues. I was suppose to rescue a dog they found on the streets that was used as an ashtray and was emaciated. When I met him he was in foster and back to being a beautiful, healthy dog. Unfortunately my landlord had a weight restriction under 40 pounds. He was a large Pittie when Second Chance found him, he was under 40 but now that he was being well taken care of he was over 60 pounds. Sad that I couldnt rescue him. He is so sweet. I love this rescue. They do an awesome job and do what they can for all the animals they rescue. You cant save them all but they do try. Thank you for doing what you do.
I got my dog from Second chance rescue, they saved him from a kill shelter. I couldn’t be more happy with they way they do things! It was such a smooth experience. They really take good care of their animals they rescue and make sure they are going to good homes! I can’t thank them enough for saving my pup n giving me the chance to adopt him, he’s my baby. ❤️🐶
Like a lot of people this year, we applied to multiple rescue organizations to adopt a dog. Not surprisingly it was Second Chance Rescue that connected us with our new(ish) furever baby.Second Chance’s staff and volunteers are intensely committed to giving second chances to dogs (and cats) who need a loving home. Of course you could say that about any rescue org. But Second Chance is different in that they take dogs that other organizations might bypass because they’re just too much work or will cost too much money. That never seems to even cross SCR’s mind—it’s all about allowing these animals to heal and thrive, no matter what kind of shape they’re in.Everyone I corresponded with was very responsive, and each truly cared about what was going on with our pup, as we first fostered before officially adopting. This was a big deal for us, as we had just lost our previous dog last year.SCR does extremely thorough checks for potential adopters and follows through on all contract requirements (such as spaying/neutering) even post-adoption.If you could choose only one rescue to support and adopt from, it should always be SCR! Thank you for bringing us our beloved new pup!
This rescue is top dog. They are always mindful and have the animals best interest at heart. They work with amazing medical teams and vets to ensure the most loving and critical care. They are transparent with their funding and appreciate their donors. I saw paws up for this awesome rescue.
Second chance rescue is one of the best rescues out there! They’re constantly taking in animals and doing everything they can to help them! The people associated with this rescue are so compassionate about animals and will go above and beyond to save them and place them into loving forever homes!! If you’re looking to rescue, I highly recommend filling out an application to adopt from them :)
This organization is extraordinary!!! They rescue the animals that are most critically injured, the ones in shelters that no one will help, they help them heal and find them loving homes. Ive watched amazing turnaround stories time and time again. Thank God for Second Chance!
My family, like many others, had the opportunity to rescue a dog during the Covid-19 shutdown. Rescuing through NYSCR was one of the best decisions my husband and I made. But more important, I feel like I was adopted into a new family. You see, NYSCR works tirelessly to help animals in rural parts of the country. Being able to witness this work and know that my adoption fees help other animals in need is just as great a gift as rescuing our boy. Outside of that, I have a support system through NYSCR that I am grateful for. Every member of staff and volunteer I have communicated with/ worked with have been kind and professional. I cant sing this organizations praises enough. Go be somebodys hero today!
I’ve adopted 2 wonderful dogs from this rescue and, each time, it was an excellent experience. SCR provides a caring and supportive community to answer questions and guide adopters through any issues they might be having, as their pups acclimate to their new homes. It’s clear these dogs are loved and valued by the rescue for their entire lives.
I have had the pleasure of working with this rescue for 4 years. They take on the toughest cases imaginable and they always put the dog first, no matter what! Everyone that works with this rescue, from the president all the way to the transport volunteers, love each and every dog like it is their own. They become invested and the dogs feel that love; from the second they enter the rescue, to the moment they go to their forever home.
I have been a volunteer with SCRNYC for 2 years now. I started as a foster, later adopted and now processing foster applications. I am proud to be a member of this organization and the community that comes with it. SCR takes in some of the most difficult animals that need help, be it medical or behavioral. Everyone is super committed and devoted to going above and beyond to place dogs (and cats) in successful homes.
I rescued my boy Snoop from SCRNYC April 13th 2019. And it was the best decision I have ever made.I was and wasn’t looking for another dog after I had just lost my previous one in February, but when I saw this boy I was I love. SCRNYC took such good care of him, he was vetted, chipped and neutered. They are so thorough in their research into what sort of home the pet will have, I was impressed and my liaison Patty was super amazing. I know I was a pain in her butt but she was always available for me and still is. She even came to visit her “God dog” . 😁🐕❤️Please adopt don’t shop and use SCRNYC they are by far the absolute best rescue agency ever and if you can’t adopt, please consider donating. They work non stop to save dogs that nobody will take. They give every animal a fighting chance, nothing is too big for these people. I have living proof that this is true, my big snowflake pitbull. Just do it it will make you feel good. Follow them on FB or instagram there’s always rescues being posted. I love them you will too. Thank you SCRNYC. You rock.
I waited almost 6 months before writing this reivew because at the end of the day they are working for animals- but this needs to be known. There is something fishy about how this organization works and when you question they bully you and take it out on the poor animals- we had a bonded pair of dogs we were fostering- one of them was diagnosed with cancer and they kept delaying treatment, not responding to my mails- i know funds can be hard and i was ok if they thought it would be better to put the dog to sleep, and i communicated this to them- but they just kept me hanging in the middle till the doctor said that the short terms meds are doing the dog more harm than good and will make longer term cancer regression harder- after weeks i started calling them out on their approach- next thing you know is the bullying- rude messages from everyone- one of the owners spoke in such a condescneding manner- she insinuated that my treatment of the dog caused cancer, I was shamed for feeding the dogs a vegan diet and called selfish (this despite the doctor specifically telling me that i should keep the exact vegan diet for the dog since it reducing the side effects of the medicines drastically which he had not seen in other dogs). It was clear that the owner was used to a certain listen to my authority approach- which sadly is the case with many non profit owners, who feel that because they are doing some good work, anyone questioning their ways is worth being insulted. I am an experienced foster mom and have never had these issues with any other organization. Long story short they did the worst thing ever- they seperate a bonded pair of dogs - they wanted to take back custody of both the dogs right away and that meant sending the dogs to separate homes - i begged and pleaded to not take out egos on the poor animals- but obviously they did not care. SEPERATING BONDED PAIRS is the worst thing ever- broke my heart. Just hoping the dogs are in good homes and are getting love. Updating based on seeing their response- not a single point in the contract was voilated - i challenge them to point it out. The 6 volunteers were needed because of poor planning on their behalf- I had 4 different people reaching out to me for the same thing (which was planning a trip to their vet since I did not have my car with me on a certain day) and infact I was the one who raised the issue of how difficult it was getting to manage so many different volunteers reaching out for the same thing and needlessly causing confusion. Anyways- I am not taking this on me personally, but again, nothing justifies seperating a bonded pair- its one of the worst thing you can do to animals
SCR is such an amazing Rescue! I am so grateful for the hard work, endless devotion, and undying passion that these “superheroes” who run and volunteer at SCR have to save as many dogs as they can. I just don’t know how they do it. I have fostered& rescued from many different organizations (currently I have 4 Rescue dogs) and Second Chance Rescue is by far the most supportive, hands-on Rescue I have ever worked with and rescued from. This is a Rescue that gives continued support to their fosters & adopters to ensure that every dog and every fosters/adopters needs are met. I recommend them to all of my friends and family! They are truly angels on Earth.
Since 2016 we have been working with SCR. They are the most dedicated, passionate, flexible, responsive and loyal people in the business. They dont just make sure that a dog finds a home, they make sure that a dog fits a home. They are with you, in every step of the way, and are always willing to lend a hand, even in the most difficult spots you may find yourself with your dog. It is not just a rescue, its a community and although the application process can be a little involved it is with the hope and the intent that they can find the best fit for you and your family. I have put my trust in SCR for the 4 years and will continue to do so.They brought Roscoe and me together and although we had some bumps along the road, SCR was always there to help me through. I am forever greatful. A wonderful organization!
Recently adopted a dog from Second Chance Rescue. The facility was clean and well run. The staff was knowledgeable and showed great compassion for their animals.I couldnt be happier with my decision to adopt with them.Have and will continue to reccomend to others.Thank Second Chance Rescue
All I can really say are these people are a Godsend. They devote their time and energy that for some dogs, would be truly a matter of life or death. Chase (formally Charie Brown) has brought such happiness to my wife and I. If you take the time, have patience and understand what these dogs go thru, youll be sure to come up with your dream pet. Thank you again from bringing Chase into our lives! A side note, Elena, you were so right about Chase. Put in the time and work, hell will be well worth it!
This rescue does amazing things!! They take the most extreme medical cases, animals from natural disasters, animals in pain no other rescues will even consider and do everything possible going above and beyond for every single animal in their care! When the hurricane hit multiple rescues were begged to take just ONE of the dogs in need but sadly no rescues would help a certain group of dogs facing euthanasia after being left to drowned. Second Chance took them all, they didn’t leave any behind! They stand behind their dogs and are there for the entire lifespan of their animals if they are ever needed. I am honored to say my beautiful boy is a Second Chance NYCDog. ♥️ Thank you SCR!!!
My 1st Experience as an adopter, began as a short term foster mom. I foster failed within 72 hours (maybe less)! This organization is amazing. They really do believe that the life of every dog matters. They are a very hard working group of people who, thru their dedication & love for animals have assembled an amazing group of volunteers, Fosters, trainers, veterinarians & surgeons. Their operation runs on volunteers & fosters & donations. They cannot do what they do without them. I recently decided to foster again as I believe in the process and outcome and I believe in this rescue. I picked up a dog, knowing he was a senior boy with overwhelming health issues which at the time were in the process of being fully diagnosed. I fell in in love with the dog known as Bishop. Little did I know he was on borrowed time and soon became a hospice foster. SCR never gave up on him and had him seen by the best in the business, hoping his final chapter would be his best. His life with me was brief but his final chapter is what mattered, and made possible because SCR CARES! If you have the time, and a love for animals and a desire to give back....Foster or Adopt from SCR. They really are an amazing group. #adoptdontshop
I’m extremely grateful for NYSCR, I got my perfect tripod from them. It was such a smooth process and they ensured he was a perfect match. I also foster a dog from them as well: I highly recommend them! They opened my eyes to see how easy it is to help! Me and my dog are FORVER grateful
Applied for and was accepted as an adopter, got a lead on some Foster dogs we could see and were asked to pick one so we didnt block other adopters. However, after visiting the pupper and sending a reply asking about next steps, the rescue ghosted us. Its been a month since then; Neither the volunteer we worked with daily, nor the employee, nor the resuce@ email have responded to us. Very strange experience, and seems like regardless of the circumstances (e.g. we werent a match) someone should have contacted us to tell us what was happening.2 stars because up until that ghosting, everything was ok!Shelters response below highlights the issue. (Also I assure you they did not send us any further messages, we called, texted, etc.). Wants passion, but then is upset when we ask questions or email. Usage of shelter dogs and tricks is a derogatory and elitist read-in on their end. We asked if the dog knew how to sit or heel before taking her walking which we thought was reasonable. And we said wed already seen two dogs in shelters (as opposed to in foster). They read snobbishness into it I guess and denied us?Just seems like lack of communication again. I was hoping theyd just apologize for the communication issues and move on. Seems like others here have had a similar issue, just trying to offer constructive ways to improve the experience!
There is not enough space or time for me to say how much I love love this rescue!! I found Brie (formerly Jane Doe) from an Instagram picture on the rescues page and fell in love with her. They take on challenging, heartbreaking, expensive, etc... cases. Brie was hit by a car and heartworm positive in Georgia. They took her on, paid for all her care and she got better to be adopted. I worked with Shelly who is a dream and she is the one I worked with the ENTIRE application process! (As a side note around the same time I saw a dog for adoption on another rescues page and applied. I had someone different every step of the process and every time there was a discrepancy on this dogs age and breed, lots of miscommunication throughout. Also no one beats the sweetness of Shelly!) All my references loved Shelly, including my landlord. The whole experience was so positive and smooth that people around me wanted to adopt that hadnt before. Brie is such a loving, smart, funny, happy dog that I could never have dreamed I would have so much fun with her after being pretty heartbroken from my previous dog that passed away. She keeps me active and brings so much joy to my life now. She is the sweetest and everyone says that. She loves everyone and dogs too. She is extremely adaptable and will go anywhere. If you are looking for your new fur best friend and a great experience with the application process then contact Second Chance Rescue NYC. They are truly the best and supporting them will help save more wonderful dogs!
If you are truly ready to adopt a new addition to your family second chance rescue nyc is who you need to contact. Their sole mission is to find the best home possible for their adoptable pets, they walk you through the process ever step of the way. My experience with them was A-1. I adopted Wolford about 3 months ago and I couldn’t have asked for a better boy. The staff at second chance is amazing they are always available to answer any questions or concerns and I am still in contact with them whether they are checking in to see how wolford is doing or if I just wanted to send a picture or update them. Call or email them today if you are truly ready for adding a new member to your family. You will not be disappointed. Say hi to Shelly for me. Thank you second chance for truly caring about your mission of finding great homes for these deserving and loving animals . Keep up the great work. God Bless. Joe and Margaret
Whoever runs the Facebook is extremely biased to not having invisible fences. She wrote a Facebook message about how she would not let people adopt dogs if they did not have a fenced in yard. She said that all rescue organizations are against invisible fences, yet, I’ve had rescues and the organizations have never had an issue with our invisible fence. This woman even went as far as to LOOK UP articles on how invisible fences are bad. If you ask me, that is terribly unprofessional. If the organization is against invisible fences, PLEASE inform on your page that people with invisible fences need not apply. You get peoples hopes up, and then let them down miserably. Just because you have an invisible fence does not mean you would not be a good fit for a dog. Hope I helped :)
I have had a wonderful experience serving as a foster for SCR! This is a very caring team that goes to the ends of the Earth to save & advocate for these animals! The Coordinator (a generous volunteer) ensured she found the right fit for the family. There is a dedicated support group of other SCR families and the volunteers check in periodically. It has been such a great experience I just recently signed up to volunteer with them, as well! #adoptdontshop
When you take the huge decision to add a new four legged kid to your family, I hope you consider NYC Second Chance Rescue. They are honest and accurate in the descriptions of their adoptables (cats, too!) and thorough in the vetting process, making sure their fur babies are well matched with the right forever families. Post foster/adoption, they offer tremendous support, checking in regularly, answering questions and generally making sure everyone’s tails are wagging. The animals they work with wouldn’t be here if not for their help. I can’t say enough good things about them. #adoptdontshop
We have had the pleasure of both fostering and adopting from this amazing rescue who puts their animals needs first and foremost !! They go above and beyond to ensure their babies are very well cared for and placed into the proper homes be it temporarily through foster or forever !! The staff is thorough and always available for questions and concerns no matter how big or small !! Highly recommend!!
Whoever runs this groups Facebook account is either a child who shouldnt be allowed to do adult work, or someone in desperate need of customer service training. I had donated a large amount of money to this group, but when I dared to politely suggest that they shouldnt accept adoption applications for dogs still in critical condition, I was sent an all caps screaming message about how I was a spoiled brat, and shame on [me]. What kind of business sends screaming insults to their customers over a simple suggestion? Sad because they otherwise do worthwhile work, but there are plenty of other rescues I can donate to, and not get called names by.

Adopted 2 dogs from this rescue. Our pittie Tweedy and our chihuahua Daisy about a year later. An amazing rescue with tons of support. I am very grateful and honored to be associated with this rescue. We still foster for them as well and have never had a bad experience IG: @tweedyandthepack.
We have adopted 2 dogs from Second Chance Rescue . Our newest just recently they were WONDERFUL! Making this experience a great one for my family once again! Everyone is so professional and go a step beyond. The staff work so hard here. Animals are well cared for. The underdog that so many overlook are saved because of this rescue which is what lead me to love them even more. They love all animals regardless of the age, health or breed. If an animal is in need and they have the ability to help they are there for that pet. We need more rescue’s like Second Chance Rescue NYC! I will be adopting again if I can convince the hubby from them they are truly awesome. Picking up my rescue was just as awesome as the entire experience with SCR. The facility is amazing! Clean ! All the dogs I saw there were thriving and so very Happy. While waiting to sign papers the staff were playing with the dogs. Saw staff Walking them. We even saw a staff member giving loving hugs to a pup which was so sweet ! What a great experience to see the dogs being so loved and cared for while they wait to be adopted. We knew we had made the right choice in working with Second Chance Rescue NYC .The Founder of the Rescue Ms Jen Brooks is so dedicated to every animal she rescues they are so lucky to have her. What a pleasure it was to see her with the dogs she saved. She even came to wish us good luck with our 2nd rescue pup. Such a dedicated group of volunteers. I can’t think of a better Place to look for a pet in need. Its a great thing they are doing there - adopt dont shop!
Second Chance Rescue is a huge rescue highly influenced by how much money a potential adopted can pay over safety, and security for the dog. They pull so many dogs they forget who they have. They also pull high-risk dogs that end up in boarding for years!! They are ungrateful to their volunteers, never thanking them and instead insulting them and talking bad about them behind their backs. I would not adopt through them.

2022-07-13NYSCR was an amazing experience for our family and got us paired up with a dog who was perfect for our home. They called and went over our needs as a family, what we expected of a dog, our home situation, etc. One of the biggest problems for shelters is dogs being returned, and with this process, that number has to be cut down. Everyone was friendly and helpful and communicated wonderfully with us throughout the process. It also felt like they were just as excited as we were for the adoption! We have had Sugar over a year now and have never had a single problem. They take dogs from horrible situations and take the time to rehabilitate them and make sure they go to homes where they can have proper care. I would highly recommend this rescue and would go back to them again if it ever came up. Cannot say enough!

2021-11-16Second Chance Rescue has been awesome! Very thorough in approving potential adopters to make sure everyone goes to safe and loving homes. This was a long process to make sure we got the best fur-baby to suit what we were looking for. Everyone was very supportive and patient and continue to be there to make sure we have a smooth transition. My expectations were exceeded with the amount of resources available. Kudos to my coordinator Donna, Stephanie and the many foster parents who go above and beyond giving their valuable time to these precious pups! We are so happy with the newest addition to our family and will certainly come back to adopt in the future. Highly recommend!

2022-02-24I volunteered to foster dogs for Second Chance Rescue and can say they are a noble and caring organization. They are well organized, supportive and there work is done with love for dogs, consideration for their volunteers and with the goal of adoption placement with forever families. If you are looking to adopt a dog I can highly recommend them.

2021-12-21My wife and I have worked with several different adoption organizations over the past several years, but never one this disorganized. Glacially slow processing applications and completely unresponsive via email. Weeks after submitting an application, the only person who would even respond to us was the person running their Instagram account, and when they did reply the information was incorrect. They seem much more interested in social media clicks than finding homes for dogs.

2019-07-25We got our wonderful girl brandy aka bacon bits a few months ago from second chance. The people there were great and made sure we had the resources we needed so brandy and our cat got to know each other the right way.

2019-07-27I joined SCR NYC as a volunteer on the Adoption Team in Feb 2019. I did this because I was feeling so hopeless reading about all the cases of animal abuse and neglect happening throughout the country. Being just an outraged observer no longer worked for me. Becoming an active part of this organization has changed my life. I was welcomed by a wonderful team, a family really, and received the best training so that I can make a valuable contribution towards our common goals. I have seen them go above and beyond for hundreds of dogs, including the most horrific medical cases out there. Rescuing easily adoptable dogs is one thing, but the fact that they stand for the most difficult cases, who really would not have had a second chance anywhere else, makes all the difference to me. Rehabilitating such dogs is a long and costly journey and I found it very rewarding to have also interacted with applicants, fosters, and adopters who are just as committed to putting in the necessary efforts for making it happen. The world is lucky that SCRNYC exists, and so am I :)

2020-08-19We came across Second Chance rescue last year when we rescued our first puppy. We had such an amazing experience that we decided to rescue another puppy from them this year! What a wonderful organization, very attentive, quick to respond to inquiries and what a wonderful worthwhile cause!!!! Ive told all my friends/relations and social media posts about them, if you are looking, go right to Second Chance. We love our furry family (Ellie and Kacie) and are so very grateful they came into our lives!!!

2018-10-04I truly could never say enough good things about this rescue and all who run it.I worked as a Vet assistant for 2.5 years for a Vet that treated many of SCR animals. Anything that these poor animals needed, this rescue provided without hesitation. If there was even a glimmer of hope for one of their dogs they would go to all lengths necessary in hopes of saving their life. They take in hundreds of abused and neglected dogs often times with behavioral or health issues. I was lucky enough to help care for these dogs when they boarded at our animal hospital. Not only did the rescue pay for their daily boarding/food/toys etc and any medical needs but they also paid for many of these poor dogs to get professional training sessions to help build their confidence and increase their chances of finding forever homes. My pups are all from SCR. They rescued my pitbull Sam when she was on death row after being picked up with a broken arm as a walking skeleton. They didnt once question how costly the surgery to fix her arm would be.My two chihuahuas also wouldnt be here today if it werent for SCR and their incredible hearts.Ive seen this rescue do incredible things for animals and give them every single chance in the world at a better life. I will forever be thankful to this rescue. I have never ever seen them turn their backs on an animal in need.Thank you for saving the loves of my life🐾💓
