Selina Chelsea New York City in New York
Selina has the most accommodating and helpful staff that I’ve encountered. My wife and I were very fortunate to have Kiko and Adam working their shifts during our stay. We were tying up loose ends for our wedding and Kiko helped us find a bigger room for hair and makeup. She was kind, patient and understanding.Adam helped us find key items that we needed last minute. He was thoughtful and very patient too.The food at the bar/restaurant area in the hotel was very tasty and the location was great as well. We’re definitely coming back should we need to stay in the Chelsea area. If you need assistance, ask for Kiko or Adam - they were wonderful people!
An extra room here was given to us by a friend after our flight was cancelled. We booked a second night when we arrived so we wouldnt have to search around in the morning for another hotel. Front desk guy charged me 3 times the rate I see online. Lesson learned: Always do your research or prepare to be ripped off.
Worst hotel in Manhattan. My check in was the best part of this stayInitially, I booked for a week but checked out early due to my bad experience and went to the Standard Hotel, which is by far a better class of hotel. One major issue for me: Many of the staff do not wear masks and I was so surprised. My room had no mini bar, there is a sign on side table saying Stay Hydrated but no water was in the room. The complimentary cups are disposable/plastic cups. The fridge didnt work, I called the front desk 5 times before they sent someone up, I left for a moment came back and saw them replacing the fridge but no mask. The bath towels were old and had multiple holes in them, and I have never seen this at a hotel. Towels with holes should be thrown out and not given to customers. Staff clothes looked dirty and not well tailored. Hallways and doors are dirty.During my stay I passed the bar about 5 times and each time the bartenders either had no mask or was wearing them on their chins. While checking out early, more staff not wearing masks. Come on, remember OMICRON?The pictures on the website are misleading, please select another hotel. DO NOT STAY HERE.
Be a conscious traveler and choose another place to stay. This hotel does not pay its vendors in full. My business contracted with Selina Chelsea in early 2020 before the pandemic and did not receive payment in full. The hotel owes me $3600. They even sent me a tax form including that amount on the form even though they did not pay it. I’ve had several conversations with upper management at the establishment and no follow through. They have admitted to needing to pay me but no follow through.Other hotels pay the people who contribute to their business, I encourage you to stay elsewhere.
The location of the property was in a great area. We found customer service to be very poor & won’t be staying at these hotels again. It was the receptionist who greeted us with an attitude, when we asked for towels, she said she would send some to our room because our room was never cleaned. Our hotel keys didn’t work and she continued on with a conversation with a man, no sense of urgency. We didn’t need the keys fast, but it was the attitude that came along with it. I think mainly the customer service is what turned is what made the experience poor. There are nicer hotels with better quality in the same price range.
Incredibly disappointed. Not at all what I would expect for $680 per night. The mattress was literally on the floor. Minimalist yes, but not at all functional or comfortable. Beyond design, the entire hotel is not up to par. Marks on the walls, room did not feel well cleaned, nowhere to put anything down in the bathroom, and I can keep going. Save yourself the disappointment, don’t stay here.
I had such a stressful and disappointing experience staying at the Selina, Chelsea. It was like staying at a hostel but with Luxury prices. The room was dirty, small, the security dead bolt has been ripped off the door, the walls had dirty marks up them, I had long female hairs stuck to me from the towels after I showered. It was stressful and gross. And there was an insane rooftop party happening at the hotel the whole time so the walls and entire elevator shafts were vibrating from the music - police even came in to shut it down because it was so loud from the street. It was a laughably terrible but stressful experience. The manager Yannick had tried to smooth things out and give me a discount and for the cleaners to come fix the room the next day, but the cleaners never came back and the discount was never put onto my card and he had ignored all my emails and calls since. Absolutely not worth the money or stress in the best city in the world.
Very cute vibe, great lighting, and that cozy NYC feel. Our server recommended 3 appetizers and 2 entrees for 2 people which we found to be too much especially since we didn’t order balanced foods. We went too heavy with our options so we were quite full, leaving quite a bit left over of the arroz and pulpo. That said, I recommend swapping out some of the heavier options for a salad or ask your server to help you navigate the menu on how to build your meal.I’d also recommend ordering slowly because everything comes out really quickly and all at once (would have loved if the server paced our meal better). So I recommending taking matters into your own hands if youre like me and like to savor your meal. Order as you go or request that the server space out your meal so it comes out in 10 minute increments or whatever timing of your choosing.Definitely recommend dining here if youre in the Chelsea area!
In August I took a trip to NYC and stayed at the Selina for a week. I really - really enjoyed my experience at the hotel and in the City. I stayed 7 days at the Selina. It was priced well and the staff was awesome! Everyone was very accommodating, moved quickly to make sure I was taken care of. I love how there was often activities on the roof top. I wanted to give a special shout out to Kiko at the front desk, they were perfection and enjoyed them so much - making my experience so nice at the hotel. Thank you!EXCELLENT LOCATION!
I read a lot of bad reviews after I already made my booking - and I can safely say I made the right decision to keep my booking and try the Selina Chelsea out. This is a great, utilitarian hotel in an extremely convenient location. It seems like this place frequently has good deals on rooms and it’s a great value for the money that may be missing a few amenities you might expect at a higher price. I did not have a mini fridge but I did get a trendy, small, clean room with good AC and a comfortable bed. The “dark” hallways are not creepy and the hotel is not “filthy.”I would stay here again and would recommend this hotel to anyone who appreciates a comfortable room in a great location.
Its great location if you plan to be easily downtown. Visited on staycation but its beyond close to the high line so its easy to navigate. The rooms are great and the staff are friendly. The food, coffee, tea, restaurant situation in the lobby was unclear but the space is cool. Super modern and updated. During my visit the rooftop seemed to be under construction but its a nice quite place to read and look around. I cant wait to visit again as I hope the roof will be completed as its a great space with potential!
I’ve stayed with my friend at Selina Chelsea at September 2021 and we had the best time ever! The rooms are comfortable, the bed is huge (delux room) the restaurant & bar are delicious and the staff was amazing! Oh and the location of course is a winning one! Close to everything. We came back there on October for one week more!💓 very recommended!!
The restaurant was amazing. The food was fresh, appetizing, flavorful, made with thought and soul. Inviting ambiance. Loved the greenery in the back. We were seated on the deck area outside. To me it seemed that the center piece of inspiration for design was to add a fleur of Tulum spirit to the spot. The stuff was friendly and attentive. I didnt order any drinks but my friends went to town that eve. ))) So must be good , considering they are the picky type. Intelligent looking crowd too, definitely my type of place.
Everything! The location, it’s quiet and pretty central. The whole vibe is super nice, there’s always nice events at the venue and most of all is the people who make it feel like home! Got to mantion Martin and Jasmine who made it feel like home to me, never met such big souls in my life!!!Big plus on the service and food will definitely come back ❤️
Stayed here a couple weeks ago. Very nice staff and decent location for walking around. Rooms were very cool but had lots of technical difficulties such as a hole in between the window and wall so the room was constantly cold.. the bath tub also didn’t work along with most of the lighting fixtures.Regarding the scene the hotel felt nearly empty and barley any action.
Selina Chelsea is the best! I lived, worked, and played here for a few weeks this summer - and my only complaint is that I didn’t stay longer. Theresa, Adam, Kiki, and the rest of the Selina crew were fun, friendly, and helpful. Theresa even got treats to keep at the front desk for my pup. I made great memories and even better friends. Can’t wait for my next Selina stay.
Do not follow any of the good reviews complete lies!!!!!!!! No amenities in the room. No tissues, toothpaste, soap etc. lights were broken in the bathroom we had to switch rooms. We waited 20 mins upon check in time for an employee to show up, finally someone came to the desk from outside the hotel, meaning clearly no one was on duty. Outlets near the bed did not work. The light in the room is not connected to the 3 light switches on the wall that do absolutely nothing. No glasses in the room for water or whatever you may drink. no hotel information in the room for wifi, nearby services etc what any room or motel or even hostel has as a guide book. You are better off on the street. NEVER pay to stay here EVER.
4 stars for location at the Highline in a quiet part of Chelsea, but close to markets, bodgas, and transit. super nice staff.. small hotel just getting back into operation. The pool and rooftop bar were just open this past weekend. Ultra modern and minimalist furnishings.
What an amazing stay! The room size is perfect. The mattress feels brand new and extremely comfortable. The room size is perfect for NYC and loved the shower. To be honest, not a single complaint about my stay. Thank you to the GM for his hospitality, and all of the staff. You guys are doing an amazing job.
Terrible management from the company hosting rooftop party on 8/7, hotel management thankfully helped me through the worst experience I have ever had at a hotel.I showed up with 8 people and was charged $40 each at the door by a woman who was apparently hosting the rooftop party. We paid, walked in and them proceeded to get stuck in the elevator which was scolding hot with 8 people for 40 minutes. After ringing and calling emergency numbers no one responded. Eventually the elevator took us to the basement level and we walked up and nicely requested our money back so we could leave. The woman hosting the party immediately and nastily refused to give us our $40 each back per person. After 30 minutes of going back and forth, eventually hotel management was alerted and came downstairs to help, forcing the “host” to give us our money back. This wasted over an our of my night and cost my sister a good birthday night. But just showed the poor quality of management all around.
The Selina is fashionably small...in regards to other NYC hotel locations...but there is a nice vibe going on there...the event we attended ...needed a larger event space area...for what they were trying to accomplish...the hotel staff seemed lost and confused about what was required of them... The event coordinator?? Was either absent or clueless about running a fashion show event... Brooklyn fashion week should look for better venues!!
I will never stay here again. Booked through hotel tonight. Had a deal of $85.00 I checked my statement the next day and I had an additional charge of $185. The receptionist downstairs was careless.Pros: lobby bar and rooftop are niceCons: rooms are super tiny tiny. The bathroom is complete see through. There are no curtains for the showers (so pretty much everyone would be able to see you). The only thing that had curtains was the toilet. The bathroom door felt like it was about to fall off.I would NOT recommend staying here. The rooms were made and done so cheap with fake unauthentic zen decor so they can charge an arm and a leg for.
Convenient for Chelsea. Subway is a bit of a trek if youre not use to it.Great for popping in and out of galleries and the hi-line.Dont expect much from the front desk. Our room had a fridge that was room temp upon arrival and after 4 days was never replaced or repaired. We were told many units dont even have one, so why worry ???As others have mentioned, some electrical are non functional.
Not worth the price they charge. No deadbolt function, limited luggage stow capacity, and lackluster customer service. Two stars for a decent shower and comfortable bed (note it’s on the soft side). The hotel seems to have undergone a renovation in the last couple of years, and card access is used for the room, but the deadbolt did not work (what!). The lobby was your typical trendy midcentury furniture with greenery type setting. Upon exiting the elevator on my floor, I was greeted with dim lighting, hallways and doors painted a dark grey/almost black, no wall art for contrast, and stepped onto gray carpeting with various dark stains. Images of that recent Netflix documentary on the Cecil Hotel came to mind as I walked to my room.Other than one associate who was working the front desk on a late Sunday afternoon, all of the other front desk staff I interacted with during my stay was what I characterize as millennial aloof. I’m a millennial too, and try not to fall in this bucket. What is millennial aloof? Think Stevie from Schitt’s Creek, season 1, but a couple of notches lower. Three examples:If you book through a travel site, the confirmation indicates there were slippers as an amenity. When I asked the front desk staff on the day of check-in whether there were slippers as the confirmation said there was, the front desk staff gave me a puzzled look and replied that they do not offer slippers. A couple of ways to improve this experience would have been to apologize for the inconvenience, offer to work with the site to have that information updated (at least lip service), or suggest a convenience store nearby. In another instance, when asking about the deadbolt for my room, the front desk staff (different guy from check-in guy) gave me a puzzled look and said that the deadbolts are not used. Not certain if that is really accurate or not, or technically legal, but since the card access seemed to work, I opted to not dwell on this too much. However, my guest heard noises outside the door before going to bed and had difficulty going to sleep for a long time. Again, it would have been helpful to provide some assurance or background that the deadbolt was no longer in use because of a renovation or some kind of reassurance that regulatory codes do not require it, etc.Upon check-out, I asked about whether there was an option to leave my luggage for a couple of hours, which is a common amenity available for most lodging in its price category. By this point, I had a feeling this may be an issue. The staff briskly apologized and said that there was a big party checking in today and so there were no spaces. Once again, the experience could have been improved by simply offering an alternative such as stowing luggage at the train station, but the overall exchange felt aloof. Aloof customer service - it’s just not a good look.If you see my other reviews - a two-star review is rare from me. However, this experience needed to be shared for transparency. Even though there are many travel sites with gram-worthy, professional photos and no shortage of reviews, somehow after doing a reasonable level of research, we still encounter unfortunate surprises. I do not expect to return and do not recommend to others unless significant changes are implemented.
The hotel is a design gem with a beautiful lobby and well appointed rooms. The design is very modern and may not appeal to everyone, particularly the bed that is on the floor, but we really enjoyed it.The staff was excellent and very friendly. We found them to be helpful and accommodating.I was disappointed the pool and rooftop were closed for renovations, but the lobby restaurant and bar were very beautiful and we enjoyed our time there. Id recommend trying the baked goods for breakfast.
Extremely disappointed and I do not recommend staying here. Really unsure how this hotel has 4 stars. The front desk workers had no clue what they were doing. The first room we were in had no working lights. The second room we got switched to had hair all over the bed and the phones did not work (not even to call the front desk). There were paint chips, black scratches and holes the walls. Although we booked a city view room the room was completely obstructed by a gate.
Check in went smoothly , hallways very dark , almost no lighting . Rooms very basic , not sure why this hotel received 4 stars . While waiting in lobby , desk person picked up and left , not sure if anyone else covering desk . Delivery person walked right past me , took elevator upstairs . Not too secure when no one watching desk . No major complaints in regards to room , bed was ok , lots of “ hole repairs “ on wall very apparent . Not a lot of frills here , room clean . Give it a “ehh” rating .
Convenient location, good interior, has a bar, gave me a 10% refund based on subpar experience.Lacked constant hot water, noisy AC unit that didnt work most of the time, suite wasnt cleaned thorougly (had spider webs and stains in places), water takes a while to get hot, seemed very understaffed.
STAY AWAY FROm THIS HOTEL!!! The front desk person has no customer service focus. When I was finally given a room there were no towels. As nobody answers the phone I had to go downstairs to hear from him that the hotel is low on towels!!!! And that I should find a housekeeper person in the building!!! This is ridiculous!!!! 200 usd a night! Don’t come here!
Stayed here this past weekend for my third anniversary and completely regret making that decision. A complete lack of professionalism at this hotel, horrible service, and misinformation being presented on their website. From the moment we checked in we were presented with unprofessionalism. The desk attendant indicated that their wifi was down so that they would need to use my boyfriends cell phone to check the reservation and he proceeded to hand them his phone so that they could confirm that. Once he was checked in he received a room key that did not work and had to return downstairs to get a new one. After entering the room he found that the blinds were fully opened and that anyone in the building across could see into the room and there was no directions on how or which button operated the blinds. He then located the three phones in the room in order to call down to the front desk, but neither of them had a directory on how to call down to the front desk and dialing the hotel number did not work. Once back downstairs two workers went up to help him with the blinds and also gave him a device to use for wifi, which he had to set up himself. He also asked them how to turn on the TV and where to plug it in and they stated that the TV did not work. When booking the reservation we called and read up on what amenities would be available and about everything was included. These adjustments included a swimming pool, which would be operated at 50% capacity, etc. However, we were extremely disappointed when we went down to the front desk 2 hours after check in to ask where the pool was located and discovered that all the information presented online was inaccurate. Later that night I went down to the front desk to ask about the bar since the phone and hotel number still did not work and they mentioned they would not have that open until after September 1st.It goes without saying that this was an extremely unpleasant welcoming into the hotel on our first day. We both regret that we made the decision to spend our anniversary weekend at this Hotel Selina and we would greatly appreciate a form of reimbursement for the misinformation and lack of amenities. Were hoping to hear back about a reimbursement for the inadequate services from the hotels manager, William Burpitt who we emailed, called, and left a voicemail for because no one in charge was present during our checkout. Ive included a photo of the portable wifi device they gave us to plug into our room and the TV with the cord which isnt connected to any power cables.
This hotel is NOT luxury and is not 4-star. It is dirty, there are holes in sheets and the hallway is filthy. The room is dark, no view and the phone nor tv works. Check in was delayed 2 hours because rooms werent ready because they let everyone check out late...that makes zero sense. The only good thing about this hotel is the customer service of the front desk staff. If I could give the room and accommodations no stars, I would. We were only there for 45 minutes, changed rooms then decided to cancel because it was that bad. And on Valentine’s Day! Smh.
No TV works, wifi barely functional had to use my Hotspot the whole stay. Had a room for 80 but they charged me 150 for the night. Didnt tell me why and couldnt offer a refund. Didnt know the money was taken until after. Rooms are good size but not all the lights work either only a few. The one thing I can say is that the service here is good they try to help as much as they can but everything else needs improvements.
Ive been to their bar and restaurant multiple times, and had an one night stay there. Its last minute booking, but the price is more than reasonable. So far so good. The bartenders at hotel lobby are absolutely amazing, friendly and professional. Id say they have a good drink menu. The rooftop bar though, is kind of slow. It has a good view up there.the restaurant staff are nice too, the food per se is...not bad, considering the price, and its kind of slow even at its not-so-busy hour.the room is impeccable, in its own way: its small, but looks bigger due to the minimalist, zen-like design. I only stayed one night, so I got everything I need so far.Mind you, its a small hotel, so they dont have much facilities, like a gym or spa.
This hotel looks nothing like the photos at all. First room had lights that didnt work and the second rooms had phones that didnt work. You werent even able to use the phone to call the front desk. It was completely unconnected. There were holes and dirty scratches on the walls. Do not stay here because it is a total catfish..
This is a well appointed hotel thats very close to Hudson Yards. Its small, but the rooms are well taken care of. The room I had was very small, with a small desk, and the rooms dont come with irons or ironing boards. I wouldnt suggest this hotel if youre a business traveler, but for everyone else it is quite nice. Front desk was very nice, and room service was prompt and tasty!
Trust the 1 star review!I booked the place on airbnb. Host confirmed but when I get there, the room wasn’t available. We had to find another place to stay last minute while trying to contact the host. I had to contact airbnb to request a full refund because we got no respond at all.
Only reason I say four stars is because rooms, pool, lobby, downstairs bars are really small. Besides that awesome time great staff beautiful decor. Roof top restaurant was hard to get a seat at kinda uncomfortable. Make sure they explain the process of the elevator key and electric key for the room. We learned the hard way. Let not forget donor disturbsign .
Overall, it was a pleasant stay. The location was highly convenient to where our events were. The bed was comfortable and the lighting in the room made it feel very welcoming. The bathroom was a bit small and the lack of counter space, the shower and the toilet were all inconvenient / awkward.
Rooms are interesting... The mattress lays on a raised wooden platform so it feels like youre sleeping on the ground. There isnt a lot of desk space so I had to leave the hotel to get any work done. My sink was tiny and could not drain water fast enough, so I was constantly having to turn the faucet on and off. Temperature control seemed to only have two settings: really hot or off. Its too bad since I really wanted to like the hotel and the front desk service was great.I will probably stay elsewhere next time.
For the price we paid for one night, I would expect the hotel to be finished and sparkly clean. When we arrived, the hotel was under construction so the restaurant and bar were both closed (nowhere online was that noted when I booked the room). When we made our way up to the room, there were still blue painting tape stuck to the bed frame wall. What I found even more disgusting was that the dresser had the painter or construction workers clothes! After checking out the staff had asked if I wanted a printed receipt or email. I took the email option, but when I arrived back home in Minneapolis a few days later I still never received a receipt. I had to call in to ask for my receipt to be sent to me. The website is now down, but when they had it up prior to my trip they made the hotel off to be luxurious, artistic, sleek, and clean. Nowhere was it near anything like the advertisements. Either other people reviewing this hotel are being polite by rating it a 4-5 star, or they were paid to give it a high rating. I should also a lot of things were listed in as amenities, but we did not have access to much. The only thing was the luxurious bathrobe that was made out of DENIM! Who wants to come out of the shower all wet and wrap themselves up in denim. I will not be staying here again.
Really not impressed. I stayed here on a business trip, and I will not stay here again. Most importantly, my room door was missing one of the three locks. Its like they upgraded the keycard/deadbolt assembly and failed to adjust the swing lock (see pic). Sloppy, and very concerning for a lone female traveler.Next, the entire hotel was under construction, from the lobby to the rooftop. My hallway (5th floor) had plastic over the carpet and dust everywhere. One morning, I was woken up by the sound of someone using a power sander in the hallway: I later walked out to find construction workers wearing respirators in a hallway filled with dust. I understand construction is necessary, but this cant be safe, and it was certainly unacceptable for a $400 per night hotel.Third, the rooms were awfully designed. The sink was so small and awkwardly placed that washing your face would splash water everywhere. There was nowhere to put my makeup bag kit, so I had to place it on the toilet lid (ew). The shower was very low pressure and not warm enough. The HVAC in the room was noisy and inconsistent. Also, as the cherry on top of this, there was a stiff denim bathrobe provided (see pic). Why even both with a bathrobe if its going to be DENIM?The only good point about this hotel is that the mattress was comfortable. I considered asking for a refund or voucher, but frankly there is nothing that would change my opinion of this place or compensate for this debacle, and all I can say is stay away.
As soon as we arrived, we were cordially welcomed. The lobby was very modern yet cozy, and filled with interesting books to look through. We were shown to our Uptown Queen room and were immediately pleased with the aesthetics and design. After a little battle with the music system not working, the staff was kind enough to upgrade us to a suite, where we were able to listen to our music. We were so grateful for this rare opportunity to experience the hotel at its fullest. The Uptown Studio was very roomy, a retro chic style with a living room area, a bathroom, a huge closet, and the coolest bed space ever. The bed was set inside of a wooden cube platform, which sounds strange but it was very comfortable and unique. I thought it was a nice way to separate the bed from the living room, the cube created the impression of being in another room.Toiletries were from Le Labo, and they smelled so good! The shower was very nice, and the bathroom was spacious. There just wasnt a lot of room to put our personal toiletries in the bathroom, no shelving space at all. But apart from that, everything was on point. The common areas seemed kind of deserted, most likely because of the snow storm. But I bet in the summer the rooftop is just amazing, and the lounge on the bottom floor probably gets pretty busy as well. We had dinner in the room, and in the morning had breakfast from the restaurant. Room service was a bit pricey for the portions, but the burgers we ordered were very delicious. And the presentation of the food was different from anything Ive ever seen, because it was delivered in a bento box. The restaurant was very pleasant, wide open space, beautiful interior with high ceilings, and good service. When we decided to go out and explore through the snow, we were saved by the umbrella that was provided in the room. It was really sturdy and helped us fight the blizzard. Surrounding areas were very nice, there were a lot of trendy galleries, the high line was very close by, and Chelsea Market was just a short walk away. Were happy to have finally enjoyed this hotel. Thanks for the hospitality Hotel Americano.
A DISASTER-- DO NOT STAY HERE*I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED A REFUND FOR A TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE AS PROMISED*My partner and I made a reservation for one night as we were in the area for an event in Hoboken. We knew it was going to be $50/uber rides each way, but we chose hotel Americano. We are military members moving overseas and the night was our final night in America for two years - it was meant to be a special occasion for us which is why we chose to stay so far from the event at The hotel Americano. We stayed with them in 2012 and had a wonderful experience; however, this time we were truly disappointed. We were not aware (nor does it mention on the website) that the pool and restaurant were under construction. In addition, we called at 8AM the morning of to see if there was a possibility of an early check in to get ready for a 2PM event and while Ricardo at the front desk assured us noon was OK to check in, when we arrived at 1PM the room was not ready as promised. He let us use another room but it was dirty from the last guest, to include the toilet itself. It was really unhygienic to say the least and a very off-putting solution as we tried to get dressed for the wedding. It was shocking to learn that there was not one clean room in the hotel at 1PM.Continuing along with the trend, breakfast was an even greater disappointment. After a sleepless night on an uncomfortable mattress we called to the front desk and were told breakfast was open until 11AM only to walk into the basement room at 10:40 and the server told us they were closing at 10:45 and she would not serve us. We explained to her that Ricardo told us 11AM and finally she agreed to serve us breakfast. This happened to other guests as well. While the customer service was severely lacking, it was unfair to see the server put in this position. It is now very clear to us that the hotel is under renovation, we never would have made this reservation for such a special occasion had we known all the shortcomings of what we have always known to be a fantastic hotel. After this distasteful experience, the staff seemingly decided to do the right thing and offered to give us a refund for a disappointing stay and gave us the managers contact information to work out the details. Not only was the hotel managers contact information fake, but they still charged the full rate. This complete and utter dishonesty should be illegal. In closing, the fact that this hotel has been granted four stars is a joke. I have received better service with a more comfortable residency in a one star establishment. Avoid at all costs.
Ive been to their rooftop a few times in different seasons, and paradoxically I recommend avoiding summer. During the hot season, the drinks are poorly prepared by rushed and messy bartenders, the tiny pool is packed with loud crowd, music is disappointing. Go there off season, its much better! Restaurant downstairs is decent, a bit too brunchy for me but they play cool live music sometimes.
I wouldnt stay here again. Maybe they are trying to redefine themselves, but for the price, it wasnt worth it. Room 82 looked like the photos. The bed was actually really comfortable. However, the bathroom had NO counter space and the drain in the shower was plugged so you only are allowed a 3 minute shower. (This has been a problem as you could see rust on the parts of the wall that are near the floor). There was a rager of a party on the top floor that you could hear through the hotel. Going to bed at 10 it was still going. Stayed here for one night, and that was enough.
Amazing food. Wonderful folks who are professional as hell. Saturday night, lots of B & Ts but my friend & I felt like we were the only two customers in the place. We had a lot of great food, which the staff gets to play a hand in menu-wise. Which is something every restaurant should do. Who knows better than the service professionals what real feedback is? An empty plate says a lot. In any case, have Oscar, the ruggedly handsome Ecuadorian bartender make for you an Evelina. Its everything umame in a glass. You wont regret the choice, the ambiance or the bill. We had a lot of first class fun and will be back.
The Americano is a nice design hotel. Not super. But nice.Minus:- Unfortunately the rooftop bar and pool area was closed.- The beds were way too soft.- A little overpriced.Plus:- Great area close to High line and away from tourists.- Nice bathroom products from Aesop.-Great coffee.
Just returned from a 4-night stay at Hotel Americano and was really disappointed by the hotel and service. I generally like to stay in small, nicely designed boutique hotels, and thought Hotel Americano would meet my expectations given its rating on google and other design sites.Unfortunately, the only good thing about the hotel is its location in Chelsea and its proximity to the High Line. The hotel is pretty rundown and is in serious need of a renovation for a hotel at this price point. For instance, the wood platform that the mattress rests on has a lot of dents and scratches on it, the bathroom porcelain sink was chipped. Even the elevator interior which is made of black back-painted glass was fully of cracks and chips.Beyond the physical shape of the hotel, the rooms are poorly designed -- biggest complaint was the fact that there was only one plug on one side of the bed, so wanting to charge your phone on both sides of the bed is impossible.Lastly, the room houses a small empty bar fridge that would be really convenient to buy drinks and have them cool in the fridge overnight except the fridge is barely colder than room temperature. When we spoke to the hotel staff about this, they simply said Oh, the fridge isnt really meant to keep things cold..its just a place to store stuff. Our interactions with staff were all very odd. When we first arrived we asked if there were any nice coffee shops in the area and were told there was a Starbucks around the corner. When I asked for other suggestions that arent Starbucks, they simply shrugged and said they dont know. The next morning when wandering around by foot, we found two really cute coffee joints on the same street as the hotel, one of which was a coffee roastery. You would think that a design hotel would have recommendations for other unique amenities in the area.We were baffled by the staffs lack of engagement or knowledge of the neighbourhood. Overall, I would not recommend staying here.
Nice little boutique hotel with compact but comfortable rooms. The bathroom is very small, and have no counter space to put anything. They also do not supply you with plastic laundry bags so remember to bring your own for your dirty clothes. Breakfast here is not bad, the coffee was good. The location is very nice since its right on the Highline. Easily access subways and within walking distance to many restaurants. I would stay here again if the room rate was under $250.
We werent told until check in but the entire roof top is closed because of construction and the restaurant is only open between 7-11am. The location is really convenient but thats the best thing about this place. Ive just learned that this hotel was built in 2011? Which is unbelievable considering how outdated and run down it is.Our last night there, we came in at night and one of the employees was shouting at some people on the sidewalk, who were also yelling at him. He didnt acknowledge us as we walked through the door and continued yelling and almost blocking the doorway. It was extremely unprofessional. This place uses keys instead of key cards which seems quaint unless you like convenience. We were told that our room was remodeled but feel it may need a second pass. The room itself is extremely dark. There are tons of light switches but none of them operate the entry light. Or anything else. There is no way to illuminate the entire room. The bathroom is separated from the rest of the room by glass walls with metal grid inside which you can see through. There is no way to take a private shower, but at least you can draw the curtain and poop alone. Its hard to see OUT through the grid, so we think the panes were installed backwards. Additionally the bathroom door doesnt lock. The bathrobes provided are not what you would imagine. They are denim, for some reason. Yes denim. The exact thing i want to put on my naked body /s. I would take a picture but there isnt enough light. The bathtub and sink drains are both clogged with a slow drain. There is a fan in the bathroom but no way to turn it on. The bed is comfortable enough but there is only a power outlet on one side. And only one of the plugs worked. But this wasnt apparent until morning when I realized my phone hadnt charged and my whole day was thrown off so I could charge my phone. On the other side of the bed are some magazines?? The wood platform that holds the mattress is scraped and looks really rough. Are the amenities described on the website accurate? No slippers, no minibar, and no tablet. There is also no hair dryer - not listed as an amenity but I feel its pretty standard so I was surprised not to find one. There are a couple bottled waters, only $10 apiece. The floor is concrete but our room has a rug in it. Upon further inspection it is not a rug, it is a blanket on the floor which is covering a grate of some kind. Our room has 2 windows with automatic shades. The shade only goes about ¼ of the way down on one of them. There is a weird jetson-esque heater hanging from the ceiling that doesnt work. There is a giant slowly disintegrating cork on the floor that we dont understand. There is a couch loosely covered by some kind of cushion cover and a chair with ottoman. All furniture is about 2 feet off the ground which is really uncomfortable for us - we are pretty tall. I really want to understand how this is a 4 star hotel. At $290/night I expected much better quality and comfort.
Possibly the worst hotel we have ever stayed in with 22 countries under our belt. While staff was nice the room design and funtionality was a complete miss. The foam bed was on a 6 inch platform wall to wall so you could not walk around the bed requiring you to crawl in and out, room had one minimalist uncomfortable desk chair, the ONLY open surface to put anything on in the room was 12 inch by 42 inch piece of metal sticking out of the walk which already has a large landline phone on it, the lighting in the room and bathroom was horrible, you had crawl over the bed to put the window shade up or down, the built in clothes closet was cold black inside so you had to have a cell phone light to see what was in it, the toilet was European scewy with no bush to clean it every time you used it and it was mounted too high, the only surface to put anything on in the bathroom was 3.5 inches deep shelf, thus it would not hold a make up or shaving kit, the sink was 10 inches in diameter with a facet mounted 10 inches above so you could not lean over the sink to wash your face, the room door, while spring loaded, would not close unless you pushed or pulled it, the room smelled like fresh paint all the time as they were painting the hallway, the rooftop, which we were looking forward to, was closed for construction and the ground level attrium was closed. There is no pool, work out area, business services area or outdoor space and they charge a $25 dailly Facilities Fee!
Love this hotel! The hotel is on a quiet street in Chelsea. It has a very minimalistic style and that is immediately apparent as soon as you walk in. The room is very basic and very charming. They also have a rooftop pool and a great bar that overlooks the New York skyline. I was there for business but this is now my go to place to stay in New York.
Booked this hotel at the last minute after a nightmare airbnb experience. This was the closest hotel to aribnb we were forced to vacate while in the middle of our vacation and now we wish we would have booked this hotel from the beginning! Maria was especially helpful upon arrival and instantly put us at ease during a stressful day. The rooms were beautiful and surprisingly quiet. Yes they are small, but this is Manhattan! We were originally placed in a room without working A/C, but Maria quickly moved us to another room and provided some free drink vouchers for the bar downstairs to compensate for the mix-up. Excellent customer service! We will definitely stay here again on our next trip to Chelsea.
Attempted to check-in at 1am ET (as my flight was delayed) arrived at the room and it was dirty. There was dust and dander on the floor, which is unacceptable given how close the mattress is to the floor. The wood around the bed was chipped and run down. It looked as if the telephone had been kicked off the wall before.I attempted to ask for a refund and the hotel refused. I travel for work weekly and have never been so poorly treated.I sincerely do not recommend you book this hotel. Poorly managed and poorly run.
We did not stay here but were treated with such graciousness by the staff. We were a group of 10 women out of our element and needed a place to use the restroom and possibly a drink waiting on a club to open. The bartender was closing down but offered us a last call, we declined as we did not want to do that to him, they allowed us to use the restroom and rest ourselves for a few minutes. The server there was super gracious to me for a personal matter that I will never forget. NYC is not all rude people as portrayed. If I ever stay in NYC again the Americano is where I will start my hotel search!

A really hip and fun hotel in Chelsea, basically under the High Line. Overall a pretty decent spot to rest your head although the aesthetics outpace the comfort and utility.Pros: Waterfall shower! Fun restaurant and bar area. Friendly staff. Decent pricing. Clean and decently sized rooms.Cons: Not close to a metro station. Way too soft of a bed, “free” mini bar that isn’t free. Arcane lighting switch layout. All in all, would stay here again if in the neighborhood but also nothing stopping me from staying elsewhere.
I want to say that the staff was wonderful..They tried to please us in every way. Unfortunately I should have read the expedia reviews. Our car didnt fit in the garage we had to drive to (no valet). no gym. We had the nicest room in the hotel and there was a huge piece of cut drywall with a steel door behind it to nowhere and a dirty rag on the ground. No desk sink so tiny and had to put toiletries on floor. Elevator button could be heard bathtub wouldnt drain at all. mildew smell. Beside lamp wouldnt work. concrete floor with a blanket on it for a rug. We ended up leaving before our reservation was up for the Westin. Staff was kind to allow. Starwood category 6 it is not
Where design meets hospitality. This incredible hotel features not only amazing architecture and design in all of its elements, but also has incredible food and service throughout their multiple bars and restaurants. Highly recommended for a long, short or even wandering guest!
Warning: No Rooftop pool as advertised on the hotel’s website and on Google (the hotel manages their Google Business listing). We booked this hotel for a summer weekend specifically for the rooftop pool. Upon arrival and AFTER checking in - they told us the pool and rooftop were closed. We even called to ask about the pool when we booked - they never mentioned it was already closed. We asked for a refund but the desk clerk only offered to remove the “resort fees”!! The rooms division manager, Katerina Mikhailova, had the gall to say “The pool’s been closed for a year, you should have already known.” No one ever emailed, called or told us the pool was no longer an amenity. They are still planning to charge us for 1 night of the stay even after falsely advertising and then suddenly changing their website. The rooftop plan on their website still shows a pool!Steer clear of this place - you will be disappointed!!
If there is 0 Stars I will put that for this place. First of all, I personally recommended this hotel, not realizing that Hotel Americano changed its name to Selina Chelsea... I used to come here with my co-fashion designer friends when we have a fashion show across the street. I had high expectations because to VIP Filipino celebrities and models and fashion production team hung out here. Great rooftop, something I would recommend to my traveling peers with professional business in New York. Afterall, I am a local New York resident, I don’t want my colleagues to be shortchanged in their travels here in New York. I work closely with diplomatic relations and journalists as I myself work there. I am not some wannabe influencer that’s into freebies. Which I felt I was treated with less importance with our stay here. That being said, I want to emphasize that upon checking in last Friday, “Selina Chelsea” after 2 years of coming here, changed its name to to “Hotel Americano”. It is in such a depreciated state. I have never experienced such a lousy hotel service in my entire life. It is worse than a cheap motel with the poor service.* lousy daytime front desk, he does not look like he is slightly concerned with their guests good stay.* I requested to hurry up to check us in, because I needed to use the bathroom yet had no sense of urgency and empathy with the hotel guest.* Requested for an early check-in and instead we were waiting to get checked for half an hour. We were there at 12nn... standard check in is at 3pm, got in at 2:30.* Bar does not even have olives to serve yet there were three bartenders just huddling at the bar* ROOFTOP IS CLOSED! Rooftop is not accessible and closed, dont be fooled with the photo they advertise because it is closed.* Wet towels in the bathroom after the half hour of wait for check-in.* We already raised our dissatifaction first hour checked-in, yet this review will show you that they did not step up to make it any better.* Broken hair dryer that was not even replaced.* No drinking glasses in the room.* No safety emergency exit guide in the hotel room.* No safety reminders, guest informational guide for TV, Room, Lights, ice and basic hotel room services.* Shower is leaking to the bedroom.* We requested for a late check-out after the bad start with the hotel, yet still called us up to check out at the standard check-out time.* Elevator floor and corridor floors are dirty.* A lot of electrical/technical mishaps, the light in the shower is not working.* To top off this unpleasant stay, just after checking-out, we placed our baggage to the outdoor sitting to call for an uber, and one of the bartenders came out trying to shoo me away as if I just did not come from the hotel as a hotel guest.* No security door latch lock! I have never been in a hotel or motel that intentionally removed.I regret recommeding and going to Hotel Selina, it is not the same as it was two years ago. My boyfriend visiting NYC over the weekend did not deserve unnecessary inconvenience that your hotel provided.I also wonder, were you treating us poorly because I am Asian? I talked to another guest, an Average Joe, but said he had a great service from them? Is it because I am Asian, you did not find the need to accomodate me properly? Makes me think now since the bad reviews of your hotel seem to come from [Windie Nguyen, Daniel Song] check all the bad reviews here. Hey, it’s not cool to discriminate AAPI, are you aware of that? You better not charge my boyfriend for “security deposit charges” if anything breaks in the room. Your rooms are already decaying broken. I would even demand of a refund for this, you should not be in the hotel hospitality business with how you are operating.
This place its like a four story building is not high. The pool is small. The weekend they say it is free but I went a few weekends ago the pool opens at 11 i got there at 11:10 and they said it was full that i needed to pay 65 per person. Scammers that weekend was my birthday so I had to go to another private pool that was way nicer and more space. If i could give 0 stars i woulf
The pool was out of action for the entire week. The AC system busted and made for quite an uncomfortable summer night. The day time staff member was defensive when i asked about the plan to address it. Maintenance then interrupted our morning despite asking to wait until we left for the day. Water ran from the shower across the walkway in the room and we almost slipped several times. The 5th floor corridor had a pretty bad musty smell. 3 stars is generous mostly because the food was delicious.
I dont understand how this is a 4-star hotel nor how SPG branded it as category 6. Please dont waste your money or SPG points on this place. The Good:1. Front desk let me check in early and gave me a room. But everything went downhill after that.2. They “upgraded” me to a king room after accidentally giving me a preoccupied room (see below)3. Its right next to the Highline, a popular tourist place.4. They were understanding of my frustration and disappointment, and let me check out early. The Bad and Worst:1. When I opened the door to the room, there were 2 people sitting in bed. Not sure if they were woken up by me opening the door.2. I have stayed at other Design Hotels and have really high expectation for this since it was also a SPG Category 6. Let just say I have stayed at better capsule hostel than this. The carpet in the hallway is different shades of black and smell. The room was also stuffy and smelly. Everything in the room looks old, all those shiny pictures on their website are at least 5 years old. The raised platform where the bed sit has cigarette burned marks and water stains. I turned the vanity mirror around and there are sticky residues on the back, yuck. Now I wonder if the room is properly clean at all. Did they change the bedding and towels? The electrical plates are not even and would get stuck randomly.Theres only 2 outlets(!), one is by the table being used by the radio/bluetooth speaker. The other one is on the wall next to the bed. It is however really high off the floor so make sure you have a long cable, otherwise youll have to sit there holding up your phone to charge.3. The hotel advertised itself as minimal designed. Minimalist does not mean lack of necessities. The table is so small that you cant comfortably fit a laptop. They should look at Muji Hotels for true minimal but still comfortable decoration; putting mattress on a raised platform does not make it Japanese minimalistic design.4. I also don’t understand where the “design” is in this hotel. Putting a standing mirror in the mirror does not art make. Take a look at the Proper Hotel in San Francisco to see what boutique hotel should look like.5. A few blogs and website advertise that the hotel provides free bicycles, a big reason why I chose this place. However, when I checked in, the receptionist told me that it’s $20/day.6. Everything is build for giants. Towel rack is at least 6 feet high. Feet doesn’t reach the ground when using toilet; they even provide a step stool for that purpose. Why though?7. The slippers do not look or feel like felted wool. They look like the cheap disposable one except these are not disposable; they look used and gross.8. The “Do Not Disturb/Room Service Requested” sign is a piece of foam with black on one side and white on the other. The catch is that they don’t tell you which is which so house keeping will still knock on your door cause you flip it to the wrong color -___-. Why not use simple printed sign like other hotel or at least print words on the foam block ?9. There’s no complementary water in room.10. The place is not near any subway station. The closest metro is 10 minutes walk away.
I had brunch at this hotel on a Sunday morning. the restaurant was surprisingly quiet for a weekend but the food made me wonder why so few people know about this gem. with healthy and hearty options, I had a perfectly filling and delicious huevos rancheros, a toasted baguette, and some of the best orange juice of my life.
Let’s start with the positives:+ The location next to the Highline, near galleries and the Hudson Yards is extremely convenient+ The staff is super friendly and helpful- The rooms are poorly lit and not well sound proofed – you can hear a lot of street noise and your hotel neighbors (bring earplugs and eye shades)- The low platform beds are waaay too soft and it’s awkward getting in and out of them – they are like having a mattress on the floor (in the middle of the first night, I started thinking of the bed as ‘the rotisserie of pain’ due to all of the tossing and turning and inability to get comfortable)- - The undisclosed $25 daily ‘facility fee’ that was charged in spite of the fact that the rooftop restaurant and public areas were closed (the ‘restaurant’ was relocated to the basement next to the boiler room). This should have at least been mentioned in the confirmation email. In sum, this hotel is just ‘ok’ and quite pricy for what it is ($400-450/night with all of the taxes and fees). I’d suggest going elsewhere – the Citizen M Midtown or the Yotel.
Mildly interesting design doesn’t make up for what are extremely expensive, cramped, and non functional rooms. The accommodations featured a single pre-school sized chair, a 12 inch shelf/desk and a 4 inch bathroom counter... you get the picture. I had to close the toilet lid in order to have somewhere to place my toiletries. Super small wall mounted bowl sink that left no optional but to leave a towel on the floor because washing ones face was near impossible to contain the splash. I felt like I was on a submarine. Even more so given the slow, glitchy WIFI that I abandoned after the first day in favor of my cell phone hotspot. At $390/night, even a coffee maker or a bottle of water would have gone a long way... not.
We visited Hotel Americano on a Saturday to check out the rooftop pool. We arrived around 12:15 and waited on the elevator for what felt like forever, until we finally asked someone at tye front desk for help and he direct us to another elevator, which needed a hotel key. We finally made it up (it was about 12:30 at this point) and the pool was extremely crowded. Its an awesome space with a bar and restaurant, but dont count on getting a spot at the pool on the weekend unless you get there right at noon.
I went for a private party in the lower floor. While the lobby and main floor is very aesthetically pleasing, the basement events room looks like a bland blank room. With the amount the organizers spent, you would think they would get a space with more personality. But it served its purpose.
Easily walkable from Penn Station and puts you right on Highline Park. Room was huge, fun, and quirky with a modern design. Bathroom had a nice tub, but an oddly positioned fixed showerhead that pointed towards the front slope of the tub, that made showering a bit uncomfortable. Other negatives included an oddly high toilet (my feet were dangling), and a soft bed (whereas I prefer firm). However, the service at the front desk and by the all the staff, and the amazing Huevos Rancheros we had at the lobby restaurant, more than made up for these faults.
Nice and clean, modern, etc but no bed to sit on as it was just on the floor and huge bean bag was a bit out of place. Had breakfast brought up but nowhere to eat it and lights all very dim, especially in the cupboards and bathroom. As another reviewer suggested, slightly cell-like. The elevator also very dark, difficult to see the right button.
I live in the neighborhood and have been coming here for many years. Most know of the roof terrace for dining and drinks but the Salsa brunch on the main floor 12-3 is always great. They recently got a new chef who has brought the food from 6/7 (out of 10) to an 9. The live music is also great and it is usually not crowded. I recommend the huevos rancheros, pancakes, chicken sausage and huevos Mexicana. Service is always great and I love the boutique hotel vibe. There is also a back area outside on the ground floor for when it gets warmer if you don’t want to deal with the crowds.
I come to this hotel since 12 years , it always been my favouriteDespite the transition period and différents changes , the team keep carrying the same good energy and make you feel home .I was a bit scared when I noticed the name changed ... that’s was a real change this time ...I came back last week not sure if the new concept ... and no doubts anymore! the SELINA will remain my favourite place for many years for sure .Some renovations little changes less concrete more greens and Lille wood , make this place very cool and comfortable. The team is the best ever , happy and ready to help anyways anytime .The morning breakfast is cool ( need more plant based options since a lots of plants are on the shelves we need some in the plate )...smile and good vibes are the main word of this great place.Rooms are still same look , cool closet easy to display your clothes , the big windows and the typical Newyork view , they got some art and new amenities...cool at his best .Can’t wait to be neck on summer and enjoy again the rooftop.Thank you to having made this place great again ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Cheers aNd see you soon
Ever tried eating Doritos with a fork? Not that Ive tried, but I imagined they would either slide off or crack and be rendered useless for utensils. That was what having Chilaquiles for breakfast was like, although it was delicious and worth the trouble. Coffee, served in a personal enamel pot, was smooth. Solid service. Nice atmosphere. (By the way, its Latin cuisine, not French.)
Hi – I just wanted to update my review. I threw an event with Hotel Americano and had a dispute with them. However, thanks to Ronny Baroody, the Area Director of Events, my concerns were quickly and expeditiously taken care of. He got on the phone with me, made sure my wishes were taken into account, and everything was sorted out. I was really touched, I´ve never had anyone from a hotel reach out to my like that. I would recommend anyone through an event at Hotel Americano as long as they are working with Ronny Baroody. Ronny you are amazing!!-Will, a happy customer
I was there last year. It is a very stylish hotel with a great room design. I love the bed on the floor and if you have enough money Lamborghini Manhatten is round the corner. But if you are near the roof top bar you will hear the music until late night. Very good music but if you want to sleep early book a room on the lower floors. Thats the reason for the missing 5th star.I will come again
Ive been in a couple of hotels of Grupo Habita in Mexico. Its nice to see this group evolving internationally, The hotel design is very cool, rooms are not really comfortable no place to seat, bathroom has no space to put your hygiene supplies. Room service options are very limited. Hotel staff its average not so friendly, you can see around couple of managers with snobbish attitude. Glad to see a this firm growing internationally, however Benefit/cost I will look for alternatives next time in NY Chelsea
Not a great neighborhood to take a stroll in. The night I walk there, the Police were raiding an apt in the nearby housing project. I little scary, but once i was in the warm company of this establishment the outside world was forgotten. Good good, not eaten by those who live nearby.
I ate at the restaurant so this is a review for that.I reserved a table outside for dinner for 8 people (special occasion) which they agreed to over the phone but when we arrived ( 15 mins early) they said we couldnt have a table outside and they were extremely rude. When I walked in I said to the door girl hi, I have a table booked in the restaurant she practically shouted at me whaaaat? You have a table booked in the restroom? yes, very funny. On top of that the food was awful, expensive and ironically there was only 1 restroom for the whole place. And it was dirty.
I used to stop in the hotel bar here on my way to Sleep No More, since its about two or three doors down from the McKittrick Hotel. The drinks are fine, but nothing special, and way overpriced. The food is not great and is similarly expensive. If you just want a drink and a snack, go across the street to Ovest instead.
Absolutely horrible place do not stay here! They put me on the first floor in a room next to the bar and would not cancel my reservation after I asked. How can I pay over $300 and not have a choice but to stay next to the bar? Most other places would not behave this way.
They took money out of my account by accident several times and it took a long time to resolve as when they went to apparently refund me they ended up taking more money out. However, this was eventually resolved even though it took several expensive phonecalls which to their credit they did reimburse me for. I would have given them higher if it wasn’t for this issue as the actual hotel was nice. The restaurant is a bit overpriced for what you get but the location is good.
DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE! Horrible establishment, how dare you think women being attack is an acceptable thing. How dare you think that doing absolutely nothing is OK. How dare you think that your employees being rude in this situation is OK. Customers safety should always be the number one priority but clearly you didn’t care in Melany’s situation. Check out Hotel Americanos latest post on instagram, check the comments, and you’ll understand the outrage.
A couple of weeks ago my boss flew me over to New York City for two days for an important client meeting. A whistle-stop visit, I left London on late Wednesday afternoon after a couple of hours delay and arrived late evening New York time. After a hop, skip and a jump through immigration and a torturous wait in the taxi queue, I was soon in a yellow cab flying through tunnels into Manhattan. That first close up of the skyline just before we took the Lincoln Tunnel gave me butterflies - my last trip to the city was a whole eight years ago with three schoolfriends on a travel bursary. My boss stays at Hotel Americano so we booked me in there too. A Design Hotel in the heart of Chelsea, its a seriously sexy looking place to stay. Arriving at midnight with an early alarm already set, it was like a dream come true to be greeted with this room. Low lighting welcomed me in along with the in-room iPad softly playing Classical music (I later discovered they had some pretty good playlists for party preparations) and that bed? It was deliciously comfy and the perfect way to end the day after a quick shower with everything Aesop. The meetings went well so we celebrated in style, starting at the rooftop bar which turns into a pool during the summer. We raised a few martinis to the Manhattan skyline before heading off for some very luxurious cocktails at Baccarat, a hotel thats just seen a cool $60 million refurb, and gives drinkers $10,000 thrones made from coyote fur to lounge around on. Truly decadent. The rest of the trip involved walking crosstown from 20th to 51st and back, some much deserved wine, guacamole and chips in the downstairs bar and some more wine before I left for the airport for another delayed flight home. A short but very sweet stay in one of New Yorks most stylish hotels. Im just trying to persuade my boss to take me back!
Needed a place to stay until my move-in date for my apartment. Found Hotel Americano on Hotels Tonight. Design of the room was amazing, the staff offered top-notch service, and overall it felt like I was staying in a far more expensive hotel. So long, The Standard Hotel. Hello, Hotel Americano.
Made a reservation online for my anniversary and it wasnt clear if they had a restaurant on rooftop or on first floor, I always thought they had a restaurant and a pool on the rooftop...went there and, to my surprise, the reservation I made was for the restaurant on first floor. They didnt do anything to help me.
Great location in Chelsea, walking to meat packing district and easy access to NYC subway. 45mins from Newark airport. The room itself is nothing special even small but somehow the space works with the well designed layout and organization of TV on the wall and in room ipad for beautifully curated playlists.Price is what youd expect in NYC, expensive but a great experience overall.
I am staying here now and I rented a sweet problem is there is not one comfortable place to sit in the hole room the bed is a mattress on the floor they have a beanbag chair in the corner a two peace couch if you dont sit in the center of it youll fall off and do lean back just ridiculous

2022-05-20Overall, the place is great. I loved the food, didnt try the bar. All but one of the staff were great, and quite helpful. The room is sparse, but has JUST what you need. The sheets had holes in them though, and for $400/ night, I would expect better. There was a surprising amount of storage.I had big bites on my ankles that burned like for every night, and I brought it up to them, but they never followed up. Im pretty sure they were bed bugs 🐛, because my ankles were fine during the day.The rooftop is pretty, and I imagine the social events are nice, although I didnt get a chance to partake. The location is superb, right off the High Line in Chelsea. Cant beat the location, honestly. If it werent for the sheets and possible bed bugs, I would rate it higher.

2021-12-29I stayed here about 2 weeks ago and had such a wonderful visit! My best friend and I had stayed here previously in August and came back for round two and was not disappointed. Their staff is helpful and kind, especially Martin who truly went above and beyond for us! He was very professional, helpful and accommodating. The location of this hotel is perfect and sits right below the High Line so its perfect for a scenic walk or morning jog. The bar at this hotel is awesome and makes amazing drinks! The rooms are cute and cozy! We will definitely be back. Thank you Selina Chelsea!

2022-02-07Stayed here with my boyfriend for a weekend and it was perfect sized for the two of us and in a great location. I love the aesthetic of the rooms and the bar/restaurant. Customer service was absolutely amazing. Hellen and Martin went above and beyond to help us out the best they could. They were both extremely friendly and helpful!! The room could’ve been a little cleaner as you could tell it hadn’t been deep cleaned in a while. The bright yellow rug was mostly grey from being walked on and there was some mildew in the shower. Not horrible, just could’ve been better.

2022-06-20If youre not planning on taking sleeping pills or going to bed drunk, dont stay here. Theres a club in the basement, a patio outside and rooftop bar. Its all lovely until you try sleep. I have had to call the reception every night because they forget to then off the music outside. Its 2:30am and Im writing this review as the bass from the club downstairs travels through the elevator and floors. With earplugs. Thats not to mention the walls are paper thin, etc. etc. It couldve been great, but not being able to sleep whilst staying at a hotel - thats 0 stars.

2022-04-15Great location and friendly staff. If you’re in your twenties and want to party, this is the place for you. If you don’t want to be woken in the middle of the night by drunk people arguing, this place might is not for you. Btw, the design is minimalist and that’s fine from an aesthetics perspective but again, after a long day, I’d like to do better then a mattress on the floor.

2022-06-30This place is special. And it’s the people who work here that make it so. I’m writing this from a squeaky clean room. It’s quiet and nice. So, apart from that, I want to particularly call out Martin at Selina Chelsea and I’ll tell you why with a quick story - I’m from Canada, in NYC for a brief business trip alone, and after a big day of meetings I was feeling … to be vulnerable … a bit sad actually. I spoke to my partner about it but my phone died midway through our conversation. Realizing I was out of toothpaste in that brief moment it was charging I thought heck, good to step out for a moment and ask the front desk for help. Enter Martin. I was just asking for some toothpaste but he saw my eyes immediately even though I tried my best to hide it, and asked how I was doing. I said ok, brushing it off, trying to hide further, and he responded with an open offer - do you want to talk about it? I could see immediately he wasn’t just giving me words. He was offering to make space for me, and he did in spades. You don’t just call that hospitality. Its humanity. And it meant the world in that small moment. So thank you Martin. At risk of going too far with a Google review, you made a hotel feel like a home, and that really is saying something.

2022-04-11(The character limit forces me to cut MUCH from this review.)The reason I stay at this hotel is to be as close to Sleep No More- an immersive theater performance in New York City- as possible. My first stay was 2016 when the hotel was called the Americano. I would enjoy another visit in 2019.Now called the Selina Chelsea, problems would begin shortly after I checked in with my friend.-Our room was about 1/2 the size of the rooms I had stayed in during my prior visits. It was incredibly difficult for two people to navigate.-The shower is structured so that if the bathroom lights are on, one can see INTO the shower from outside the bathroom. Id known about it before, but I think it still bears mentioning as a problem for prospective guests.- Related to THAT, we were given two towels and one hand towel upon arrival. When the hand towel was used, we asked the front desk for another one, only to be told there were no more hand towels/washcloths due to COVID.I understand COVIDs effect on the world at large, but this is nonsense. Washcloths and hand towels are just more towels.- Speaking of towels, when housekeeping took my towels, they did not replace them- they simply took the old ones. We tried to call for new ones, and were told that due to a shipment issue (?) more would not be delivered until later that evening. When we returned after Sleep No More (close to midnight) they still had not given us towels. We called the front desk and they gave us more. They delivered them to the room which was nice enough, but also, midnight? Really? Lads, this is hospitality 101.- We had booked breakfast along with the room. However, we were not given a thorough rundown of how that worked upon check-in and could not find any information about opening or closing times, except that the room service kitchen opens at 10 am.We arrived at the restaurant only to be told that we were too late for breakfast, and that we could only order off the Brunch menu for which we would have to pay.The next day we talked to the front desk to clarify everything. They said that the ‘breakfast’ only covered a continental breakfast and that brunch started at 10(?) if I recall correctly. In short we were given little to no information regarding breakfast. The clerk nevertheless gave us a ticket for breakfast (which we hadn’t received on the night of our arrival, although we did get a free drink voucher for certain bar hours?) and sent us to the restaurant. The hostess sat us down and told us that she had spoken to the front desk and said that they would honor the breakfast coupon for the Brunch menu- another piece of conflicting information. We did get our free meal off of the brunch menu with our breakfast coupon, but for my life I couldn’t tell you what the official policy is. I believe it has something to do with people giving their tickets away, but I feel like there are ways to deal with that that don’t make the process of hotel guests getting food in the morning such a problem.-There were no working phones in the hotel room. In order to reach the front desk, one had to find their number online. One can download the Selina app, but to contact anyone one needs the Whatsapp. Its easier to just call them but at that point why not just give us phones?-I know that I said there wasn’t much space in the hotel room, but the lighting was incredibly poor, particularly at night. A simple desk lamp or standing lamp would have alleviated this issue.- For what it’s worth, as mentioned, the staff, particularly the front desk clerk and the restaurant hostess were both phenomenal- very pleasant in spite of having to carry out less than stellar policies and procedures laid down by an establishment I used to very much enjoy patronizing.Honestly, as I stated at the top of this review, I and likely many others stay at the Selina Chelsea because of its close distance to Sleep No More.Unless things improve in the aftermath of this change of management/ownership, I recommend parties interested in Sleep No More pursue other, less expensive options.

2022-04-19Very congenial staff demonstrating a willingness to be helpful. A very nice boutique small hotel property that provides excellent attention to their guests. The hotel was an idea location for me as I was attending the Jean-Michel Basquiat Art Exhibit that is just few blocks away. I would stay here again.

2022-05-06I come to New York every year so I was happy to have found this hotel in such a good location. Unfortunately rooms are smaller than on the pictures and due to the loud noise it feels like sleeping in a club. The noise was unbearable. Sadly not recommended !

2022-06-28The cancellation process is a nightmare. First I submitted a cancellation request through their type form, I didn’t hear back for a week. Then I messaged their WhatsApp help desk, my message was read but never responded to. Then I called and I was on hold for 30 minutes and they said they would cancel and send a confirmation email immediately after the call but I have yet to receive an email. They are extremely unprofessional and I hope they do better soon since the concept is cool.
