I should start off by stating the service was FANTASTIC. If this review was written solely on the service it would easily be 5-stars. Our server was very friendly, patient, and knowledgeable. All of the missing stars are based on the food itself. My girlfriend and I had been here 1 time before when it was called Crispins. We came back because we remembered how good the food was, and because the drinks were quite good as well. This rebrand has adjusted this cuisine to Italian-American-Asian fusion, which should have been directly in our ballpark as we are a couple representing all 3 food cuisines. The food was awkwardly spiced, with noodles not quite cooked correctly (one was over, one was under). The breading on the chicken was soggy while the chicken itself was overcooked. The butter for the bread was strange to both of our taste buds. My girlfriend felt that her noodles had a more plastic texture, as did the bubbles in her drink. The uni tasted as if it was just out of the ocean, and then covered in salt. The choice of tomatoes for the red sauce did my dish no favors as it lacked any strong flavors and was overall lacking in a general sense of taste.I hope Sesamo finds some of the old flair it used to have and rebounds. Best of luck!
We were in Hells Kitchen last night and wanted to try one of the restaurants while we were there. Walking down 10th ave we spotted this little gem of a restaurant. We wanted Italian so decided to stop at this place. We were thrilled to find out that this restaurant served Italian Asian Fusion food. Which weve never tried before. It was epic to say the least. If youre in Hells Kitchen or near Manhattan I really recommend stopping here and trying the food.
Excellent variety of small and large plates for varied tastes with meat, fish, vegan options. Perfect place for an early pre theater bite or a larger longer more indulgent meal. The staff were great, you could tell they enjoyed their work and the vibe was delightful as a consequence.
The service was excellent and all of the staff we encountered were extremely friendly. We were looking for an Italian restaurant in Hells Kitchen and stumbled across Sesamo. What a unique little place with good food and drinks. We enjoyed their outdoor dining area for brunch and the weather was perfect. See you guys this Saturday again!
Some of the best sangria I’ve ever had! Not too sweet and so much flavor. The food is also incredible - I was skeptical when our server said it was Asian/Italian fusion, but every single thing we ordered was fantastic. Highly recommend the burrata and the mushroom bruschetta!
Like other reviewers, I passed here several times thinking This place looks interesting...we need to come here one night. That one night was last night. We could not have loved the experience more. The food is excellent, the atmosphere is warm and cozy, and staff is welcoming. Not knowing what to expect from an Italian-with-Asian-influence menu, we tried the polpette, roasted broccoli, the tuna prosciutto crostini, and the lamb shank. Everything was so fresh and flavorful--we couldnt decide which we liked most. Finishing off with the Yuzu sorbet and macha tiramisu were also good decisions. :)The GM, Russell, is super nice as is the owner (whos name I cant recall). We had such a great experience that we are going back on Friday night and bringing out of town friends. Looking forward to the return and many more!
Decent restaurant but nothing special. Service was great and the staff genuinely care about customers and their jobs but the food was just ok. I ordered the vegan pasta, which apparently changes based on the season. Mine came with vegetables that were bland and undercooked, which made my pasta watery. My friends got pasta carbonara that they did not like either. I wouldn’t return.
Few brunch places keep me coming back like Sesamo does. Exquisite operation. Great outdoor seating (and indoor large windows for fall/winter). Very reasonable pricing and tasty food. Many restaurants lack reliability and consistency, however, the food at Sesamo is consistently good.
Came here for Saturday brunch. Our waitress abruptly approached our table 15 mins after ordering and said something along the lines of: sorry, our kitchen is backed up and your food is taking longer to prepare. Can I offer you a couple of our pastries while you wait? We say: sure, that would be nice. And we were offered either a plain or chocolate croissant. Our food comes 5 mins later. Come time for the bill, we see that we were charged $12 for 2 croissants. We didn’t raise this issue with the waitress, as we didn’t want to complain over such a small sum, but nevertheless, we felt deceived. There is upselling and then there is trickery. This instance, it was the latter. Completely unethical, in my honest opinion. We won’t be return customers!
Ambience is young and full of energy. The service is very friendly, attentive and well informed. Right from the moment we walked in. Although they seemed extremely short staffed, the wait staff was very attentive and prompt. The drinks and appetizer are great and on point. The entrees not so much. My friend had the Duck Ragu with Pappardelle. The Garam Masala was raw (bitter tasting), very liberally used and overpowered the whole dish. Could not taste anything but the bitterness and heat from the Garam Masala. I had the Uni Bucatini. I hate to say, it was a waste of such a delicate and expensive product. The dish had no taste or flavor. The flavor profiles of the entrees need better pairing. All in all, the experience was more on the side of underwhelming.
The fusion doesn’t work. It was a confusing limited-flavor blah menu. Duck Ragu papardelle had double-thick pasta and duck and sauce that were barely salted. Crab bucatini was soupy and very light on the crab. Caesar salad shouldn’t be called that; it was bathed in mayo heavy dressing. Only good things we tried were octopus and the miso-butter. There were more employees there than patrons. Service was mediocre. Re-vamp menu now using a better palate. Not recommended.
Absolutely delicious, not to mention the fantastic service. We had the cauliflower, the broccoli, the burrata, the duck ragu, and a few glasses of sangria. Oh not to mention the complementary miso butter and warm bread! My only regret is not asking for containers to bring home the extra cauliflower and broccoli sauces. Seriously, stop reading this and go there NOW.
Today I ordered the chicken parmesan dinner. Sadly, I did not like the presentation of the flavor. The meat was covered with spaghetti juice and lacked the crispy texture and essence of a true chicken parm dish. After sending my dish back, I was asked by a woman if everything tasted well.I kindly told her that the chicken parm dish was not good. Moreover, I reported that the chicken was not crispy, and the flavor was not that of a chicken parmesan dish. She appeared a little annoyed by my truth and kindness. Thereafter, I asked for the Fingerling I was not impressed, as I thought they would receive French fries with the occasional aioli sauce. After receiving my check I noticed that the chick parm was still spelled to my check. I was confused because I kindly asked the kind gentleman if she removes the dish from my bill, as I had ordered something else.It appeared that the manager asked him not to remove the dish from my bill. This is the second time Ive attended this restaurant. I am not pleased with the way the female mana er handled the situation. I hope to see more professionalism and equality. Especially the female anger that stands at the host stand.Best,Theodore
I have been using this restaurant for home deliveries when outdoor dining wasn’t available and then for both outdoor and indoor dining once it opened up. Fantastic food, great service, both owners are very welcoming. I work late and they are one of the few restaurants open after 10 PM on weekdays. Highly recommend
The menu is diverse. They have gluten-free options, which is great. Even though it was my first time, the food was better than what I was expecting. From the starters to the main dish everything had an authentic, traditional Italian feel to it. To add to the deliciousness of the food, there was a wide collection of wines and cocktails. I must say that Sesamo does not compromise when it comes to Italian food and wine.
Crispins was absolutely AMAZING!!!!! The service was wonderful! Our server was the sweetest most attentive waitress. The food was wonderful! This place was a whole vibe. I wish I lived here just to revisit again and again. This was by far the best restaurant we visited during our visit to NYC, and I cant wait to return again.
Decided to try this place through recommendation while I was in NYC for leisure and I did not regret it! The head chef came out to chat us up and the waiting staff were very enthusiastic to hear about our adventures at the convention center nearby. Felt like home! The drinks were spectacular. When my friend, who usually deigns to have more than 1 glass of wine, enthusiastically browses the menu to pick and choose with a smile on his face, you know youve got a winning selection. I have also had 2-3 Old Fashions, my favorite, expertly crafted by their eager bartender. When my wife ordered a drink, the bartender actually came out to inform us that he ran out of a certain ingredient to make it, and carefully consulted with my wife to decide on an amazing drink that suited her palette--it just shows that they care! Finally, the food was delectable. We ordered 3 courses because the Italian/Asian fusion was just too interesting to pass up any portion of their menu. I had the Bruschetta for appetizer and the Lamb over mashed potatoes as my main. I absolutely polished off both plates! My party had such fun with the menu that we also ordered the cannoli and the sorbet--classic Italian desserts, but also exquisite as well! All in all, a perfect experience and we all agreed that it is well deserving of a second visit--and more!
Sesamo has a fresh take on blending flavors. Started with the peppery, crispy calamari w/lime reminiscent of southern fried chicken, a delight and departure from the standard sweet tempura everyone does. The mushroom & pesto bruschetta was such a delicious take, I don’t think I want to go back to tomato. The Duck Ragu was an exciting blend of Italian and Asian masala flavors, sweet and spicy. Loved it. Will be back soon to try more.
The food is so unique and absolutely delicious! While some things were better than others, everything was, at the very least, very good.Highlights:Broccoli with peanut sauce was a huge hit! It would also be a fantastic addition to a main course.Mushroom Tortellini was incredibly and very filling. Bold, rich flavors.Spaghetti and meatballs had the perfect amount of spice to make it an unexpected favorite!Mashed potatoes made me so so happy! Fabulous flavors from the garlic and cheese!!Panna Cotta was the perfect compliment after a big meal. Sweet and tart, very light. Loved it!!Bread pudding - holy cow!! We thought we were too full for dinner, and this is a heavier dessert than the panna cotta, but we could not get enough!Notes:The mushroom bruschetta is a bit of a misleading name, but it is delicious anyway. I expected bruschetta with mushrooms in it, but it completely mushroom based on toasted bread with (I think) melted swiss cheese. Awesome!! Definitely try it, but dont expect tomatoes.Ricotta cake was very dense and not our favorite. It may have been an off night, Im not sure. But the other desserts outshined this poor little cake.We were all very happy with our meal and the service. Employees here could not be nicer and it was the perfect end to our day.Thank you so much!!!
Cozy vibe, professional service, and the food was incredible. We ordered the Calamari Fritti, Misticanza Salad, and the Fettuccine Alfredo to share, and were pleasantly surprised by the combination of flavors in every dish. Really interesting and delicious take on familiar dishes. Even the Bread Pudding we got for dessert blew us away. Might have just found our favorite spot to eat in the neighborhood!
I had a wonderful time at SESAMO. The food was delicious and the staff working there even better. As soon as our glasses of wine or water were empty there was immediately someone to refill them. The music and the ambiance were both chill, not too loud, or sleepy. The food was also quite good. They had different options to choose from, which was great because this time I had an opportunity to try something new. Overall, I would say my experience was great.
Countering all the fake reviews they bought.. Owners should be ashamed cmon dont do that. Its so painfully obvious when you have a bunch of glowing 5 statr reviews all posted at the same time from people with 2-3 reviews total. And their 2 reviews are in completely different places like Albuquerque and NYEdit: ok Ill provide my experience review as the owner so kindly asked for. Waitstaff was kind and attentive, food was subpar and salty. Also dont use the small business card when its easily googleable that your owners are multimillionaires lol
Outdoor brunch is something that I was looking forward to after the pandemic. Couldn’t manage because I was preoccupied with work and other things. However, only yesterday, I got a chance to finally sit outside and have a delicious brunch. I was not sure how everything would turn out, but they were offering outdoor brunch so I decided to go. To my surprise, the food was really delicious, especially carbonara. I would definitely like to thank the chef for serving great brunch and making my day.
I ran through that corner for a while and always thought to myself I should try this place. So one night, I felt it was time and went there with my wife and a friend. Right away we knew something was special... The service was nothing but spectacular. Nicest people I have ever been around. The food was good dont get me wrong... Delicious even... But the people were just so nice that on our way home we were taking about the service more than the food until one of us said wait... My food was amazing but the way. So without a question... We will be back.
Took 3 teens here before a Broadway show and we all enjoyed the food. The fusion of Italian and Asian flavors was surprisingly delicious. We tried several apps and our favorites were the mushroom bruschetta and the kung pao romanesco cauliflower. SO GOOD! My husband and I had the duck ragu pappardelle, the girls had spaghetti, and the guy had the mushroom tortellini and we were all really happy with our choices. We all remarked when leaving that we were just the perfect level of full. The owner came over and chatted with us for a while and she was really delightful. They opened just before COVID and have struggled to stay open, and Im so glad theyre making it! I highly recommend giving them a visit!
We saw this place here years ago when we moved in, but something about the name just didnt grab our attention and we never checked it out. It turned into something else, then reverted back to Crispins during the pandemic. Well, we saw quite a few folks outside dining here this summer so we gave it a whirl. We really enjoyed the dishes we tried, and found everything to be a good value. Great service as well. We look forward to continuing to dine here in the future!
I had an incredible evening and really lovely dinner with my parents. All the food was prepared with lots of attention and high quality ingredients. The wine list was extensive for the area and the staff made us feel welcome and had an attentive and warm affect throughout our meal. I will definitely be coming back and encourage others to patronize this local high quality eatery.
We tried appetizers, entrees, desserts, and coffee...trash. Just not good. It was comical. The calamari was soggy, chef boyardee could compete with their bolognese, the air in my mouth tastes better than that salmon entree, and I won’t even get into the dessert. AND it was expensive. Service was fine. Only reason it got 2 stars.
Very nice atmosphere, we went to a 3 days trip to New York, we found this restaurant on the first night, it was busy, however no reservations required, we ordered Pasta and Steak with bottle of wine, that was amazing, the manager, named Alberto was an absolute Gentleman, with warm hospitality and caring behavior. Highly recommended
We live in the neighborhood so we came for brunch with my mom and we were the only table they had. We ordered french toast and omelette and it took 25 minutes to come out. The worst thing was that the food was so bad. The bread from the french toast was so stale and the omelette had a really bad flavor to it. We asked the waitress for some black pepper and she starter putting it on the french toast which had maple syrup on it…Long story short, we’re not coming back here.
Came here on Fathers Day. Was super busy and they took a really long time with the food BUT their response was excellent! The manager and owner resolved the issue as soon as they heard. Very nice and courteous. Food was delicious! Would def still highly recommend this place!
CAme here - friend picked it. Sadly, I cant eat eggs and so the brunch menu was almost entirely off limits to me. The regular menu was available but a bit out of my expected price range. While they DO NOT SUBSTITUTE (they told us that a few times) - as I suggested we go somewhere else (not their fault! I just needed a simple substitution - maybe it was more expensive - I dont know) the waiter came back and said they would do it THIS ONE TIME.Well! I am so glad they did. The bread: tasty. My steak (I was concerned when it came out - small and thin) tender and tasty. Fries - yum. SPINACH DELICIOUS. My friend enjoyed his food, too.TAKE AWAY: NO SUBSTITUTIONS. Brunch (like most places) heavy on eggs. Food - good.
Excellent dinner with great service. Had the lemon chicken over mashed potatoes which was absolutely delicious. Ended with tartuffo to which they added an additional scoop of vanilla ice cream. They also gave me an after dinner drink on the house. A really nice experience all the way around.
This place was around a few years back went out of business and then resurfaced this past year, I understand why it went out of business. Brunch menu says eggs benedict Canadian bacon they serve you eggs benedict with regular fried bacon, I sent it back ordered a four cheese omelette, it was like a rolled piece of rubber with cold unmelted cheese on the inside. And a slice of toast with no butter.it was gross the worst meal Ive ever had and Ive lived in the neighborhood 42 years.
So, I understand this is an Italian restaurant but that doesnt excuse the quality of the food my friend and I ordered that day. I had an omelette with four cheeses. The egg was rubbery and the omelette itself was cold. The cheese in the middle wasnt even melted. The potatoes served alongside it were also cold. The dish came with ONE slice of toast and no butter. My friend ordered Eggs Benedict and had to be sent back because it did not come to the table as described on the menu. To top it off, the meal was expensive. Real lousy.
I bumped into it as I live in Hell’s Kitchen and it will become my new cantine for sure. Service is perfect, food is delicious and they have a variety of wines. French and having spent a lot of time in Italy I can easily recommend this hotspot. Bon appétit et salute à tutti
Absolutely Spectacular!! The Italian cuisine was imaginative and delicious. Wine selection was on par and the service was just right for a quiet dinner. The ambiance was dark and romantic, perfect setting for a special occasion. Dont miss the wine bar around back, thats were the tempo builds!
Absolutely amazing time with my friends and my gf. The food was so delicious, the steak medium rare melted in my mouth. Juiciest steak with potatoes as a side that my gf quickly ate while I was working on it. I dont understand how, but the chicken marinara was so moist on the inside yet crispy on the outside with the fresh pasta on the side. You must order the truffle fries and the bruschetta with mushrooms so fresh and delicious. Must try the Baileys coffee and the decadent fresh cheesecake that is made in house everyday, perfect dessert for 2 and an amazing way to finish a night.
I love wine and wanted to try a new place. I found my experience with the service to be delightful and the surroundings very creative. The wine I ordered came in less than 10 minutes.(Reading the other reviews I realize that the timing of the service and the organization of the wine cellar was less than stellar before but I must have visited after the last reviewer.... because everything has seemingly improved.) I enjoyed my meal and they took care to make sure it was gluten free! The food was fresh, the restaurant and bathrooms clean and the service was perfect. I would recommend Crispins to many!
Terrible. We showed up for brunch on the weekend at 3:15.We waited a full 8 minutes before we were approached to be seated. There was only one waiter who ignored us standing at the front. The restaurant only had 5 tables filled, yet we could not get anyones attention. Eventually he just told us to sit anywhere.Once the waiter came over, he was incredibly rude and disinterested. We waited a while to receive menus, yet the other tables seemed to have no problem receiving attention. The menu and window showed brunch was served until 4pm. When we were finally seated we were told we could not order brunch, even though everyone around us was eating brunch. We saw eggs Benedict come out of the kitchen as we were being seated. We were in the area looking for a cute brunch and ended up leaving due to the rude dude and incorrect brunch hours. We left before ordering anything. Too bad because the menu and interior looked promising.
I really want to like this place. Charming interior, nice menu and wine list but this is for management......... Roberto is the owner. Wonderful, caring and has the vision but....service needs to be trained. While our plates were being served, another server was reaching over the other and then over our entrees to pour a beaker of wine. Not cool, I think most of the servers are underage to serve wine properly. Also, it was a nice energetic place but around 8 they turned on loud music and people had to scream their conversation. The noise level went thru the roof. Especially among the single millinial girls who are obnoxious and loud anyway. At that point we asked for check and after a 15 minute wait, we left. I hope they get it together.
The Service was just terrible. The waitress wasnt rude (the worst of things to complain about), but we arrived just after 6:30 for dinner, and did not get our food for a full hour. The first time we ordered wine, she came back to double check that we wanted Cabernet (we did not) twice. When she did return it was with Cabernet (we ordered a white). For the food, I asked her which pasta was vegetarian and came in a red sauce. Her response, Im not an expert in Italian food. Seriously?! The next time I saw her, I had to stop her and ask her to ask the kitchen about veggie options (she did not do so in her own). She suggested, when she returned, that I order a pasta with sausage, but without the sausage. I did. It came an hour later with no sauce (remember I had two conditions-sauce and no meat). Ten minutes after that, my soup came out. I told her I wasnt going to eat the soup, as I was already eating my meal. She understood and took it off the bill. My date ordered a pasta in gorgonzola sauce. it was fine, but had no cheese flavor, just bechamel sauce. All said and done, I had a nearly two-hour long, highly frustrating, and totally average meal which came in staggered parts, so the pasta was cool before the sauce came out. We went elsewhere for dessert, and will not be returning.
I am almost embarrassed to post this review, considering that I live in the same building as the owner... but I am so disappointed by my visit to Crispins. We tried Crispins 3 times before coming to a conclusion...Wine bars are a dime a dozen these days. And look, supplying tasty wine to patrons is not that hard. so it really comes down to one thing... CUSTOMER SERVICE...on our 3rd visit the servers took 5 trips trying to find the wine we ordered, (white wine) and in the end we kept the last he brought over since we didnt want to wait another 20 minutes. the other 2 visit the wine was never found and we ordered a glass...We know that Crispins worked for Roberto Passon, but why pay $20 for the same pasta i get for $12.5 at Briciola?? Considering that the seating was awkward & the service was below mediocre. BTW, wine is SUPER EXPENSIVE.. they sell a bottle i buy for $7 at liquor store @ $12 a glass.. who are they kidding?? Sooo angry about this that i feel like saying something to the owner when i see him in the elevator next time..And the Hostess ... can someone please get her off her iPhone!!!! when she looked up from reading she gave us the dirty look..never ever ever will I go to this place again. BOOOO.Word in the neighborhood s that it wont last too long...
Just ordered takeout from here for the third time. First two times each took an hour and a half. Currently at the two hour mark. Have called them twice to just cancel the order, each time they rudely told me the food was on the way and to be patient I dont normally write reviews but just couldnt help myself here.
12/19/2021The attentions were not the best, the food is terrible, they say it is a mixture of Italian and Korean cuisine but they are really insulting the good gastronomy of Italy, I went to enjoy Brunch $ 32 dollars per person, the menu was very poor, we had to use the menu regular and everything was a disaster, I ordered a chicken parmesan which was accompanied by a terrible pasta accompanied by a hair. I had a very bad experience and I recommend ignoring this restaurant. The attentions were not the best, the food is terrible, they say it is a mixture of Italian and Korean cuisine but they are really insulting the good gastronomy of Italy, I went to enjoy Brunch $ 32 dollars per person, the menu was very poor , we had to use the regular menu and everything was a disaster, I ordered a chicken parmesan which was accompanied by a terrible pasta accompanied by a hair. Omg! Attention Italians. They sell Italian food, but all disgusting. Dont be fooled by the fantastic interior design, the only thing that matters. They bring the bread with oil for frying with the addition of red pepper (white). The pasta is absolutely overcooked and not al dente, with the addition of a hair !!! They apologize by excluding the dish from the payment… fried potatoes in old oil (you can see from the black color) The bread with avocado was stuffed with raw onion. They propose a “Bellini” with strawberry (in Italy it is called Rossini) but in reality it is only prosecco with pieces of strawberry. I wonder, why do you allow yourself to offend the noble Italian food? Arent you ashamed?Omg! Attention Italians. They sell Italian food, but all disgusting. Last night I went to eat with a friend, a Mexican waiter who apparently was the owner also attended to me. The food, although rich, felt very bad to see how the employees are treated in that place. The two Venezuelans working were gentle from the start.I definitely do not recommend going to this place if the people who work there and the employees are not respected. Unpleasant.

2021-12-24The service was great. Sam was very nice and the server was awesome. I ordered the mackerel fish with fettuccine pasta. That was delicious but it wasnt enough. My friend ordered the chicken parm and it was a large plate and tasty. The drink was the Espresso and I loved it! The outside dining had heaters so we were kept warm as well. We had a lovely time. We would recommend this place.

2022-04-26My friend recommended for me to stop by here. I just got off the phone thanking him for the recommendation. This is probably the best Italian food I have eaten. It was creamy and smooth and the sauce was outstanding. I 100% recommend eating here!

2022-06-27I wanted to go to this restaurant cause is in my neighborhood and a friend recommend it a long time ago but they change the name of the restaurant and it’s not the same. The food is nasty and salty I had a stomach pain from 2 days straight cause of the food in this place. The portions are small and expensive. The drinks are disgusting too, the only thing that I like was the appetizer im not going to lie. By the photo you could said that I eat and that was the left over I barely ate my pasta and my friend too. They ruined my night, definitely not coming back.

2021-11-28Nice space, nice service, nice wine list and delicious food. Burrata was tender and full of flavor. Pastas were al dente and rich but not overpowering. Chicken parm was crunchy but not overcooked.Have eaten here again, for brunch this time. Food was delicious and service was great. This is an overall lovely restaurant.

2021-12-13Sesamo has such a unique twist to fusion! Flavors you would never expect go so beautifully together. I had the bobatini, which is basically hard bubble tea and Ive never had it or seen it anywhere before! Delicious flavors! The steak was divine and all the appetizers were so unique and delicious that we couldnt get pics of them fast enough. The burrata with gochujang was my personal favorite. And wonderful vegan/vegetarian offerings too! This place has it all!
