My kid had a hankering for street meat, or otherwise known as halal. How surprised was I to find out that a new one had opened up in our neighborhood.Went with the chicken and lamb over rice. The person in front of me got some kind of gyro and the chicken was piled high giving me a reassuring feeling that there would be a real debate of quality over quantity.Got the lettuce, Greek salad, peppers and onions (my kids weird) with white sauce and spicy sauce on the side. The server actually recommended it warning that it was spicy. She was right.Ok. So the meat was ok and tasty. It wasnt the same as eating fresh off the cart since the portions are precooked and held in a warming tray. The white sauce tasted mayo based and like I said, the spicy sauce was actually spicy. The Greek salad bits were refreshing but not what I was used to.My daughter said she felt kind of sick afterwards, but isnt that part of an authentic experience? The price was fine for what you got. With coming back if you get the urge.
Shahs Halal is best described as human excrement disguised as food served on a platter. I was having diarrhea for one week due these unhygienic towelheads serving possibly expired food.Please do NOT eat here, SAVE YOURSELF..USDA & FDA MUST investigate ASAP!
Juiciest lamb i ever had, it melts in your mouth. The chicken is sooo well marinated and is yummy. The rice here was the most flavorful one i ever had. Quick no nonsense restaurant with reasonable price. The nuggets and the wings were a little extra salty.
Below average food. Cheesestakes were tasteless. Avoid their Shami kababs they have weird smell. Tried their food for the first and last time.

Inexpensive, very flavorful and delicious. Generous portions as well. You can make any combo you want. You can have any or all sauces on the side or on the food. The falafel isnt dry like most places. Plenty and easy parking too.
This place has great food. I think everyone should support them. They have an extended menu which you cant find at other places. Also the prices are very reasonable considering you are eating at a sit down place.
The food is great. Bit of you ask for extra sauce and sides of white sauce they mess up 75% of the time. I even called after I ordered from uber eats. To confirm about 2 sides of white sauce. They gave me 1 and skimpped the chicken platter. Not the first time they have done this. Carts on the street give better white sauce amounts than this. And I have been having halal food for over 10 years over the long island and Manhattan area. I hope they can correct this. They have great food bit slack on adding sauce

The food here is amazing! I just hate the wait times. There’s only one person behind the counter making the platters & he’s annoyingly slow. I’ve learned to not even get out of My car if there’s more than 2 people waiting inside. Never go here on a lunch break or a time when you are on a time restraint.
Very clean location and staff are wonderful! Food is always fresh. Purchased a catering package for my son’s birthday because he loves this location. Spoke with Saed, I think he’s the manager/owner, he called me when my order was ready and it was so fresh and yummy! The dishes are prepared with pride and never reheated. Great location with plenty of parking. Ambiance is nice, too.

This is the place to go. If youve never been to Shahs in New Hyde Park before you need to stop by one day soon. Reasonable prices across the board and they give you PLENTLY of delicious food. Also the employees are so great and make your order how you want it. Just finished eating now and cannot wait to go back.
Excellent Halah spot! Delicious food, quick service and generous portions all at a great price. There are times when you see a long line, which shows how popular they are.I highly recommend their Lamb over rice platter, but if you prefer chicken, get the Chicken over rice platter. I typically ask for extra white sauce and one line of red sauce for a little spice.For those of you familar with the Halah Guys red sauce, Shahs red sauce is milder in comparison.Theres plenty of free parking in the lot.
Love this place, the food is always fresh and delicious! Probably one of the best on LI. The service is also wonderful — every time we go, the owners are always so kind and friendly. One manager / owner in particular is always so kind and funny and lightens our mood. Makes us want to come back!They are also exceptionally clean during pandemic — everyone is masked and they have a plastic shield in front of the cashier.Def recommend!
Bad behavior by staff. The boys on the counter are very rude. Even they don’t know how to talk to lady customer.
It was the best. The chicken and lamb combo is absolutely delicious. I drove all the way from East Elmhurst just to.eat at this.place. It will be.well worth the ride to go check it out. Love it.
Delicious food. I have been ordering from this place for a few years and they always get my order right. They used to have fried chicken wings which I loved but have since been taken off the menu.
Nice and clean. Food is very tasty. People are very nice and friendly especially the Pakistani in the front. He speaks good french. This has been a wonderful experience.

Love this location. Not sure what the old reviews were talking about in terms of cleanliness.These guys always keep the place clean. If they drop even a few grains of rice on the counter they pick them right away and put them in the garbage.Maybe old employees? Idk. But the platters and falafel are awesome. Combo platters are the best.
Food is always delicious. Staff is always friendly and speedy. Always clean. My favorite thing about this location is the food is always consistant. Since they opened I have never once been disappointed in the food. I 100% recommend this place. Its addicting!!!
The food is good. But I’m giving it a 1 star for their lack of care when it comes to delivery. I’ve ordered food from here a few times and every time without a doubt they ruin the order. It’s like they don’t even read the order they just make what they feel like the most convenient. last order i ordered combo with all sauces with onions and peppers. DO NOT ORDER delivery, through any platform, from this establishment. We’ve tried Uber Eats multiple times and clearly made notes all over the order to the put the sauce on the side. Not only did they put the sauce on the food but it looks like double or triple the amount of sauce as normal. If that’s not enough, we found a long black hair in the food as well. Stay away at all costs!!!

Shahs has the BEST halal food, we have been getting their chicken and combo platters for years at the carts in queens. We were so happy this restaurant version opened nearby! The food is so delicious and fresh and the portions are generous. The staff is always friendly and accommodating -- amazing place!!
Nice place for cart style street food. Chicken / lamb / falafel over rice , gyros etc.The nice thing is that they have Choice of toppings - salad , cucumbers, tomatoes, lettuce , garbanzo beans , onions and peppers , hummus etc you can add on top of your dish at no extra cost. All in all it makes a very substantial meal. The food is fresh snd hot . The falafel is always fried to order. Open late nights. So perfect for midnight cravings. Customer service is nice and courteous. Worth repeated visits.
Every time we visit my son in Long Island, we go to eat here! Its good food, good size portions and a cheap price. I usually get the lamb platter. It very good. The atmosphere is very casual and service is a walk up counter. People are friendly. Meals are about $5. I would return as I have many times. Oh and they are open late.
I love there food. Its delicious but if you are looking something purely Pakistani then its not your place.
The service was great. I called ahead and placed an order for pickup. The food was ready when I got there in 15 minutes. Only complaint is that the chicken gyro was not good, the cucumbers and tomatoes were cut really large making it difficult to eat. Also the entire gyro was drenched in watery white sauce, causing it to drip excessively, making a mess. Would NOT recommend the chicken gyro. Otherwise the staff was nice and the place was clean, well stocked and decorated.
Surprisingly the food was pretty good. I been to other Shah halals restaurants where the chicken was dry and overall lacked taste.However, this place the chicken was juicy, rice was cooked to perfection and the place is clean. Keep up the good work!

Wow amazing staff. The man behind the counter is extremely nice and pleasant. Gave us the opportunity to try different meats. Food was delicious and very fresh. I usually to a halal food truck but doesnt compare. The fish was delicious.
I go here all the time, and am probably their #1 customer at this point. I recommend asking for half a slice of pita on top of your platter, it gives the dish extra texture.
I tried them because its cheap, but not getting it again.I rather put couple bucks more and buy Chicken/Goat Biryani from my all time favorite Desi Indian restaurant on 117-10 Atlantic Ave.They make the best Biryani with butter chicken.

Little that I know that within 4 hours I will be in the hospital.I ate the food at 8pm and by 12am I was in the emergency room at North Shore hospital. The doctors told me that the halal food was bad.

I used to come here a lot but now I stopped due to2 reasons, one I got food poisoning that lasted weeks and second the workers are not sanitary at all. Stay away from this place unless you want to get sick. I saw the guy itching is face and touching his shirt with his work glove on. Also he was spraying the inside part of the glass that it over the food with a cleaning spray and the chemicals are going all over the food! Stay away from this place! Also its over priced with no drink !

Easy to see right off of Hillside Avenue servicing New Hyde Park and the adjoining areas of Nassau County. Plenty of parking and a wheelchair accessible. Moderately clean facilities. Public Restroom. Reasonably priced. Credit cards accepted. Nice staff. We will most likely be going back.
A friend suggested I stop there after a movie. The three of us ordered different meals. I had the falafel on pita. Staff was friendly and helpful with my helping me choose. Everything was very clean. Reasonably priced. I will be visiting again.
I placed my orders here on NFL night and my order was not ready after half an hour and in fact he started preparing my orders when I reached there . He offered me some free item but I did not take it . The quality of food was ol compared to real halal guys in NYC or any other place . The place was clean but I did not like their services that day as I had to waste my time at the store on super bowl day !
Good food at this place. Kind of like a halal street cart, but with the comfort of it being inside. Portions are hefty. I had the lamb and chicken combo over rice, and the salad on the side can be topped with whatever sauce they have, like humus, white sauce, green chili chutney, sour cream, bbq. I was quite full when I finished my meal
Quality of the food is great. The fixins have always been fresh everytime I have gotten my mixed chicken and rice combo. Most importantly, the servers wear gloves and the operation appears to be clean and hygenic--so important. Lets face it, when you get the real cart food in Queens or NYC, you basically chose to ignore the questionable at best hygiene of the cart but personnel. Glad this brick and mortar option now exists.

I really wanted to like this place cause it looked like a nice, sanitary storefront halal platter. Food was good but the next day I got the worst food poisoning I have ever had from anywhere. No Halal cart has had me sick like this for the past ten years of my life. I even read reviews saying people got sick and thought it was bad luck but this stuff actually messed me up. Stay away.

I come after work during the week sometimes at 5pm or 6pm and the young kid and the other guys see sometimes do a great job and the food is well made. The falafel is the best I ever had and I have been eating halal food for a long time from different carts and stores and this is the best.
Got a lamb platter and a combo platter. My daughter got the lamb and she liked it very much. Combo platter was tasty, lots of side/ topping and sauce options. Both platters had very generous portions. The chicken was a little dry but the lamb was good, as is their white sauce and hot sauce, though no bite to it. The minor nitpicks I have are that 1.) if you offer tahini sauce as an option, you should have it stocked but they never seem to and 2.) tahini sauce is NOT pretty much the same as white sauce as some of their employees insist.
If I could give this place zero stars I would. Horrible food. It’s basically worst than the halal carts and way to overpriced without the drink. They charge extra for pita. It’s basically dog food with white sauce on top. Not only is the quality of the food very bad they give u very small portions. Hopefully this place shuts down very bad food and very bad customer service. Will never eat at shahs ever again!
Called to order an hour and a half ahead of schedule. We got there and they still hadn’t started making the order. They proceeded to make the orders with hot sauce after we specifically asked them no hot sauce. Terrible attitude, terrible service , good food (if it had been correct)
Best halal food in the area. Fresh even at 10pm. Okay portion. But price is amazing. 6.99 for a platter. It’s like a Chipotle where you see everything in front of you. And they have seating inside to eat or takeaway. I want more.

Twice I been here now an hour before closing and they are already packed up ready to close. If your advertisement says open till 1am and I walk in at midnight, Im lead to believe you should still be open for business. Ive heard the foods good but twice I have ended up going back to the halal carts.
Went for lunch..very clean...staff very friendly. Food looks very appetizing. Fish is cooked at time of order so you do have to wait which I didnt mind. My order was excellent and I was satisfied
I used to be a HUGE fan of getting food from the halal guys in the city. Many time Ive made a trip all the way to the city just for halal food but this place a much more local and taste better. Highly recommend giving it a try. You might get hooked.
They don’t even deserved one star .just order lamb gyro and there is almost no meat , white sauce are running all over the place. When we called we got there nasty attitude without even listening to our problems. Zero customers service.Don’t waste your money on this garbage food.

Not city street cart halal, but mostly satisfies the craving. Definitely feels like the food is much cleaner than cart food thats been gently smoked with car exhaust fumes and handled with gloveless money-grasping hands.

Im a big fan of this place because its run honestly. The owner and staff are considerate of their customers. Although they may close up shop early if its a quiet night, they would still go out of their way to make something for you.

2022-07-04This is a decent place for some falafel or meat platters, gyros or baklavas. Looks like a local business and doesn’t look fancy. I’m also not that sure of the hygiene. We ordered few veg platters and the quantity for a $9 platter was good, quality of the food was ok (not up to the mark). Their falafel is of soft types and not crispy (I like crispy falafel). Not sure if I care to visit again.

2022-04-22Shahs is honestly the best halal you can get in the area, we live in the city and love coming out here to get halal.They’re so nice! We only come once in a while and they remember us. Always are nice to customers. Even try to serve us fresh food when it’s almost ready in the back.Great place!

2021-08-09Note* this review was done late so I don’t embarrass the worker. But I think it’s a new person working. He has no hair net nor a cap. When I walked in, I immediately was cautious knowing there might be hair in my food. When I got my food it was easy to spot that there indeed was a hair. But I went back inside and he apologized and served me a fresh gyro. But yet I didn’t see him wear anything to cover his head. The food is a hit but management needs to do it’s job ensuring employees are followings protocols.

2022-04-05Please for gods sake make a different line for online pickups. Whats the point of making someone who has already ordered suffer and wait on line with people who have not ordered yet? My food is prepared, bagged and on the counter getting cold while im standing behind a guy whos ordering multiple meals. Make it make sense to me. Seperate line I could have been in and out in 30 seconds. Anyone reading do not bother to order ahead. You food will be sitting on the counter getting cold while you stand on line to let them know your here. Things like this make me justify driving twice as far to try other chicken and rice spots.

2019-04-26I had a good lunch here one afternoon. I would go back for lunch. The place was clean, it was not to crowded. The menu was simple and easy to put something together and also seemed to have different options I would try next time. There is plenty of parking to that is nice. I didnt go to the bathroom so I couldnt comment on handicap or not. There are no steps into the place though. Til next time Shahs.

2022-01-14Ive had food from here before, purchased by a friend. This was my first visit. I was impressed how quick the food was served. I did have to wait a little for the fish which they cooked in the back. They give a generous portion of the lamb, which tasty and tender. Ill have to try the chicken and falafel next time.
