This place sucked. We came as part of a convention, so there was a large group. But still service was terrible and food came out so delayed and mismatched. Some peoples food (including appetizers) after we all ate and we’re done with our food. The place was awful and won’t be going again.
Modern pub in historic hotel. This pub has good food, great food and drink specials, and a good selection of beers and wines. Its spacious, but set up so that there are plenty of private spaces. You could have fun with a large group here or have a quiet conversation with just one other person. Its on street level so you feel like youre connected to city life. People from the Tech Garden across the street hangout here, which gives it a bit of a cutting edge vibe. It also has some cool Syracuse sports memorabilia on display.
We ordered lunch through Grubhub and were pleasantly surprised! We got the quesadilla (great value for the price) and the corned beef sandwich. The sandwich was delicious and thick with corned beef! And it came with fries that were nice and crisp on the outside potato on the inside. We also got the fried pickles—definitely recommend those as well. Overall a great lunch 🙂
Shaughnessys is a great little pub located inside the Marriott Downtown. They offer local ales as well as full bar service. The meals were excellent and filling. There is also a street entrance so you dont have to walk thru the hotel, but very convenient for those of us staying there.
Food is not that good. Ordered a flat iron, the cheese had such strong smell (like it was bad), had to return the plate. My boyfriend ordered the shaugnessy burger. Cornbeef was ice cold and same thing with the cheese, it smell horrible. Service is great but food terrible!
My fiancé eats meat, I dont. His burger was cooked perfectly.. in fact he said he might prefer the burgers here to Blarney Stone (which is a huge compliment!)... As a vegetarian, my options here were pretty slim. I had the tomato basil soup on special, and it was awesome! I also ordered a quesadilla -- no chicken, no bacon. I understand that meant it was coming with pico, and cheese.... But when the check came -- my meal was still more expensive than my fiances burger. Overall, atmosphere is A+, service was also A+, quality of food A+... only true improvement could be the consideration and options for vegetarian/vegans. We will be back, but Ill personally skip eating next time and just come for the booze and atmosphere!
Shaughnessys is a great traditional Irish pub with an authentic decor, extensive whiskey list and traditional Irish food. It also features a large selection of local beers and a varied menu of healthy food alternatives to Irish fare which I enjoyed. The lively crowd was of all ages and a single dinner would be most comfortable sitting at the bar. I highly recommend a visit to this Pub.
Fantastic pub food, esp the Buffalo shrimp, Pub burger, Ceasar dinner salad with chicken, wings with the most outrageous homemade chunky Blue Cheese dip, that they will happily give you extra, if you ask( you will!) We also loved the Quesadillas and the Reubens, which were yum. The cheesecake is a must-try with a caramel chocolate pecan sauce to die for. They have a good selection
It’s unfortunate that this restaurant is attached to such a great hotel because the service is so poor. The reason I give it 2 stars and not one is because of the convenience factor. Other than that, I went for lunch and it was very busy, which I completely empathize for any server working for when it’s slammed busy and you’re the only one on. However, there was another person behind the bar I don’t know if it was a manager or what but they just kept telling the server they had more people that had been sat. At that point, it’s just seems like you need to put more people on or just help her out. And, when the server did finally make it over, she was unaccommodating and I clearly stated I was ordering food I was waiting for someone, but claimed I “couldn’t get a drink without getting food or she’d get fired.” I wish the experience was better because no one likes writing these, however hopefully this can be taken constructively rather than negatively.
I always go to this pub when I am in Syracuse. I usually meet friends or family and we have snacks or a meal with drinks. I really like the wings. The atmosphere is friendly and the bartenders are really attentive and friendly. Thanks to all of the staff for enjoyable times. We didn’t want to leave the hotel after getting settled in, so we decided to try this place. So glad we did!! The food was delicious, the portions were huge, and the seating was plentiful. Overall a great meal!! Try the poutine fries- they were amazing.
Our food was great. I got the grilled chicken sandwich, which was tasty with the pepper spread. No one had any complaints about their meals. Atmosphere was good. We were seated reasonably fast and the food didnt take too long.I would come back again for another round.
They have a good selection.of beer, wine and cocktails. The staff is so accommodating and customer friendly, that I am perplexed about a couple of reviews that say otherwise, unless some staff has changed. Current staff as of 12/30 was wonderful, respectful, and very friendly. most especially Luke on evenings. What a great guy. Loved this place, definetly coming back here!!
Me and my girlfriend come here all the time. The customer service is awesome, the food is awesome like ive never had anything from here that was over priced or poorly cooked. Dog friendly too which is nice since we can bring the pug. The atmosphere is mixed but very welcoming you can show up right after work or in a suit and youll always fit right in. Ill be sure to come here more often. My only complaint is they took their steak off their menu and it was to die for.
Visited for a late lunch/early dinner on May 23. We had 10 in our party. The waitress was extremely rude, even to the 80 plus year old member of our group. The food was good, as were the beverages. We were all staying at the Marriott attached to the pub. We went to watch several members of our group bowl in the USBC National Open and returned to the pub shortly before 11 pm. Not a single person offered to help us until after 11 pm when we were then told that the kitchen was closed and we had to go to the bar for our drinks. This establishment lost out on quite a bit of money by not serving food to all of the returning bowlers that evening and every week night that they bowl until that late. The tournament runs into July. Customer service is lacking. The 3 stars are because the food was good.
Ordered before closing. Was told my order was being prepared. Waited over an hour before the restaurant was contacted. Was told the expected delivery would be in 5 minutes. After 15 minutes (about 2 hours after my order was placed) my order was cancelled with the reason that they were closed and not accepting orders.
Great place for food and drink the nachos are huge for a small order and great choices of beer. The floor of this place is really cool it came from the old stadium. The service is quick and friendly and the clientele is fun, I have stayed at the hotel twice and have gone down for food and drinks both times. And this place gets hopping at night.
Delicious, fresh piquant salsa, chips and guacamole! Comfortable bench style stools, ample views of sports on TV, nifty sports memorabilia, including a poster of Syracuse University alum and Heisman Trophy winner, Ernie Davis! 2 for 1 draft beer specials at the right happy hour times!! Thanks.
Just looking to relax for a little bit after a long day. 12 am posted closing. Last call at 10:50. At least ten paying customers at the bar. Spoke with Shawn manager for a night ,because original manager called off. Expressed my disappointment. Was cordial but didn’t seem to really care . Said I could Chill, however all music, TV turned off. ATMOSPHERE killed. I would almost understand if I were the only one there. Not the case. Disappointed! Service industry needs to remember the SERVICE part!
Been to restaurant twice. First experience was awesome. Ordered the shaughnessy corn beef piled high and very delicious. This time I did a pick up order because first was sooo good.Very disappointed with the sandwich I received. VERY THIN layer of corn beef and EXTREMELY TOUGH. Not sure why but if it was a sit down experience I would of refused it.
The true measure of a place comes in how they treat people at closing. Granted we came in close to last call but if the staff had treated us well we are generally hefty tippers. The staff was making little passive-aggressive comments before I finally said something and the bar back whined like a spoiled child. There would have to be a really compelling reason for me to step foot in this place again. Its too bad because it seems kike otherwise a nice place and I didnt have a chance to try their food
Went there after a concert at the oncenter, because Google said they were ipen. When we walked in no one was there to greet even though tons of staff were walking around. We had to wave a waitress down only to be told that last call was already made and they were no longer serving food, even though food was being delivered to tables. We watched a waitress put a plate of nachos down behind the bar when we first arrived and maybe 15 minutes later was delivered to the customer. Disgusted by the fact they would still serve that to a customer I refused to order anything to drink. Will most definitely not return.
Food was ok as well. Poutine and onion soup both actually very tasty. Dubliner dip was gross. Meat was dry and tasteless and tough. Seemed old.Solid Pub. Friendly staff, cold beer, tasty food. Visiting the area, stopped in for a bite, and enjoyed trying something new. Decent draft selection, nothing to write home about. Enjoyed the lunch I had here. Thanks, cheers!
I will start off and say I have been down here when there are SU games, so I know it is busy. My issue is the staffing. If you expect a few hundred to a thousand people at your bar... prepare for it. There are 2 bartenders who are overwhelmed and cannot meet the needs of the bar. Servers are stressed and therefore rude. Taking up to 20-30 mins for a drink. It could be better with just better staffing
We had a party of five to watch last nights basketball game and received no service. Bartenders said to have a seat and they would change a tv over to the basketball game, but it never happened. Bartender told us a server would get our order, but no one came over to greet our table. Server watched us walk out and leave!
First Review Ive ever done. I would rate higher but I waited to order drinks for 27mins the lady next to me was here before me. So shes been waiting longer. This wasnt a one time thing tonight when I first arrived it took apx. 20mins to get drinks. Its not that busy either..
A clean bar with character, but the bartenders were not friendly or attentive. They walked by us standing and waiting for a drink several times without even acknowledging us. A simple Ill be right with you goes a long way. We may try it again sometime, but it was not a great first impression.
So I don’t like to complain however I’m writing this as I’m still waiting for bar service 30 minutes. This is the 3rd time this situation has happened. The bar itself is great however the bar staff is not fast in my experience. 6 tenders on and no sense of urgency. It is my hope that someone in Management sees this and similar posts and try’s to correct as this is an otherwise syracuse gem.
Shaughnessys is slightly upscale Spots Bar, a very popular place, with very friendly service. We did not feel rushed despite a busy early supper crowd. The menu was largely predictable pub food with a couple of house specials. The food was good. No reason to complain but the best part of the meal was the friendly and fine service.
Took forever before someone came to the table for a drink order and then even longer to get the drinks and be able to place our order. Two people came over to ask if someone had taken our drink order in the meantime. Then the waitress looked the other way when I tried to get her attention to get the check.
Disappointing. So loud it was difficult to have a conversation. Had the Shaughnessy sandwich which is corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and special sauce. The beef was dried out and tough. The cheese was tasteless, and there was little sauerkraut. I asked for vinaigrette for my salad and got a teaspoon of vinegar in a cup. Might be an OK place for a beer, but I won’t be back.
Great pub! Lots of space and a nice bar! It really feels like you are in SU sports territory. Friendly staff and lots of drink options. Only reason for 4 stars and not 5 is because I got the Pountine there yesterday and it was the worst Pountine I have ever had in my life, so bad I could not even finish it......great place if you stay away from the poochtine as they call it.
Clean, nice interior, spacious.Bartender blamed me for pouring me the wrong drinks. Even tried to lighten the mood and make a joke about how awful it would be if she dumped them, and that my party would drink them and we didnt mind. Uh, does it look like Im worried about [something like that?]Thanks for doing your job wrong, and when I try to make your life easier, giving me attitude Misty. Also, if you are going here for pregame: the shuttle sucks. You pay $4 (round trip, it brings you back to the main bus hub). You have to walk a block to get on it. The worst part is it doesnt even bring you to the dome. It drops you off on Waverly. You have to walk across the entire campus. Pretty terrible that you have to walk so much with a $4 price tag.To clarify, Syracuse Suds in Armory bussed you to an actual gate, for free. Its a nice bar, but Gameday Experience for the Pitt game was lackluster.
I havent found my place at Shaugnesseys yet. The Syracuse Marriott is a big hearted place with an elegance from another age. The hospitality touches me in one way or another when I visit. I love to walk into the lobby. I cannot wait until I can purchase coffee at the Cafe Kubal inside the hotel, about to open. All these good, good factors make this hotel. Thats why I say little specific about Shaugnesseys. The hotel has so much that pleases me that my thoughts about the Irish themed sports bar hardly need to be said. Many, many find it to their liking so why should I complain when Ive missed what they have found? Ill keep coming back. The location couldnt be better. The connection to the hotel with all of its parties ensure that Shaugnesseys will always be full of interesting people taking a breather from the formal. Ill try to find my place here.

2022-01-16Good clean pub, friendly staff with shockingly fresh delicious food. Sound too good to be true?!? Well, it’s true! Try it for yourself. Pleasant pub atmosphere where the game is always on and the jams pump out of the speakers at just the right volume to be able to hold a conversation. And thank YOU management for being open on Sundays. Most business leave us lonely travelers to starve in downtown areas on Sundays. But here you are serving up good times!

Lots of pub favorites, the wait staff was super attentive and the food was quick and as expected. On the street level of the Marriott Hotel, so if you are staying there its really nice to have such a convenient place to grab lunch.Id go back.

2022-06-17Came for the 2021 New York State Association of Fire Chiefs Convention and came in after the block party for dinner and everything was great. Came back for the 2022 Convention expecting the same experience and was extremely disappointed. Service was extremely lacking. After taking our food orders, everything came out randomly for our party. There was 11 people in our party and some people got their appetizer and food immediately, where others took a long time. Some people were finished eating before other food or appetizers were even brought out. My appetizer in particular was brought out an hour and fifteen minutes after we ordered. Which was after my entire party had already finished their dinner. One of the things I look forward to when coming to the Chiefs Convention is eating at all the great food establishments in town. This place had definatly been crossed off the list for next year and I will be sure my fellow firemen are advised of such. I understand it is a busy time, but I have eaten at many establishments in town over the course of the week and have had exceptional service everywhere else. Google requires a minimum of 1 full star for the review, but if it allowed less, I would.

2022-02-20Was busy BUT had a terrible waitress who kept ghosting us. Another waitress helped us by FINALLY grabbing our app, potato skins-unimpressed and they were cold. Ordered drinks and my sister had hers 5-7 minutes before I received mine. Finally order our dinner-took roughly 1 1/2 hours from the time we were seated until we received our dinner-we both ordered a Cobb salad. We both talked about how much we couldn’t wait to have it because we wanted the avocado that was on it….it arrives and doesn’t have a single piece of avocado in it. Waitress never asked how our meal was or if we needed anything. She brought us our drinks and our bill that was it…other waitresses delivered the app-which was shoved in front of me and had no plates to eat from and a third waitress delivered our salads. Never was asked if we needed a refill on our drink. We’re staying at the hotel and just called down for two desserts-to order by phone and we’d pick it up. Waitress wouldn’t take our order by phone, told us to come down and look for a waitress to get the desserts for us. Terrible service.

2022-05-05Bartenders were friendly, the atmosphere casual but nice, and the food was reasonable and very tasty. Portions are good especially the pups - toasted pretzels with mustard. The boneless wings were tasty and perfectly prepared. I wish I was in Syracuse longer because there were additional items I wanted to try!

2022-06-02Pretty sub par food. Chicken tenders are not single pieces of meat, they are fillet shaped chicken nuggets full of gristle and skin.

2022-06-07Food was tasty, service due to staffing issues needs help. We moved 3 times to be served. Bar to table and then to another table to avoid a rude wedding party crowding our space.

2021-05-13My hubby and I went with a group of 7 for trivia on Wednesdays! Lots of fun and great atmosphere. They were short staffed but honestly the staff that was there was killing it!

2022-06-06Good food, good service...some of the crowd can be pretty bad...so I would never take my kids, and would probably go on slow days only
