First time at Sigiri and enjoyed every bit of food. They were fresh, nicely seasoned and tickled my tongue with its authentic taste. We kept eating, and bought more to take home. I would recommend Sigiri Sri Lanka resturant to anyone. Best in everyway. Only downside is they dont sell alcohol and you have to pay in cash. But its worth it. You can bring your own liquor.

Soooo goooood. I haven’t had much Sri Lankan food to compare, but all the food I had here was delicious. LOVE the kottu roti, and the black pork curry was tender, intensely flavorful, and had some great spiciness (by request). Small place, BYOB, cash only, great service.

Sigiri is a Sri Lankan restaurant, planted amongst Indian restaurants in the East Village. a walk-up restaurant from the sidewalk—small/medium space full of warm colors, some Sri Lankan decor items. the vibe is casual and welcoming. the menu of Sri Lankan dishes is small but but offers a lot of range. however, the general theme is relatively spicy hot even when asking for “mild”—the entrees errs toward bringing the heat. you were warned!faves for appetizers: the fish cutlets and/or fried spring rolls. both are deep-fried and have crunch exteriors—each filled with a unique savory filling. each is great as a starter.faves for entrees:chicken lamprais, dish of rice, chicken, eggs, eggplant, and a bunch of other foods baked in banana leaf. it’s awesome.Kothu roti, shredded roti bread stir fried with veggies, spices, eggs, and more. you can chicken or beef added in but the vegetarian version is perfectly delicious and the way i prefer it.deviled chicken is basically a sautée of chicken, veggies, and tomatoes in a bunch of Sri Lankan spices, served with rice on the side. savory, flavorful.all curries are tasty / spicy if you are looking for something more simple. all are coconut milk based. i prefer the chicken or prawn.the Aapas— which is more of a shareable side dish are great. bowl-shaped pancakes served with either a onion sambol or coconut sambol. i like ordering these with any of the curry dishes and dipping pieces of the pancake in or just pour a little bit of the curry in the whole pancake.definitely sharing is both caring and the way to go in terms sampling the breadth of the menu.the kitchen being slow is a constant at Sigiri. most of the dishes just have long cook times and factor in multiple tables ordering dishes like that will eventually cause a traffic jam of orders. that is just a fact that can’t be cured. and nor should anyone want the kitchen to speed up bc the food will suffer in terms of quality. my best advice is to come to Sigiri just as they open for lunch or dinner—the kitchen will still move slow but you won’t be a stacked-up behind a ton of other orders. no amount of complaining will speed up the food, Karen. it’s just the way.the service itself is friendly and casual—home-style in ways. it’s like eating at a friend’s place waiting as the smells of mom’s cooking permeate the home and your stomach growls. there’s not a lot of formality or pretense. the food is ready when it’s ready and there’s no way to rush that. again, prepare to wait.

Ordered delivery and thoroughly disappointed. The Dhal Vade was so dry. It tasted like if I had a nightmare about falafel. And as if it was a sick joke the dipping sauce is not a sauce at all, but little pieces of fire. Yes it was spicy but more importantly it was also dry. As in no liquid. Ive included a photo. The chicken curry might have been the worst thing Ive ever experienced from southeast asia. Spicy and flavorless at the same time. Extremely thin sauce. There wasnt enough liquid to flavor the rice it came with. The Pol Roti tasted like a shoe. With a subtle hint of coconut. Also it came with another dry sauce.Chicken Koththu Roti was actually so good it made me think maybe i just ordered everything else wrong. Im actually willing to try the place again. But not soon.

I don’t normally complain on food but I had to write this review as no one deserves the food we were sent from Sigiri. We cook and eat authentic Sri Lankan food at home daily. We were in New York for few days and thought of getting Sri Lankan food delivered to our hotel. Delivery was late (Uber issue),We ordered, Chicken Lamprais, Pork Koththu and Devilled Chicken all requested to made Very Spicy as we cook authentic very spicy Sri Lankan food daily at home. However, we were sent a pack of very poor Fish Lamprais, which is not even proper Lamprais. The rice was made with broken basmati, which is cheap and doesn’t taste good. The Pork Koththu hardly had any pork in it but mountains of fried crushed red chillies were thrown to make it ‘very spicy’. The same treatment was given to the devilled chicken dish.No one deserves the kind of food we were sent, absolutely full of oil and mountains of fried crushed red chilli flakes. If this is what you send to anyone who orders ‘Spicy Sri Lankan food’ you guys know nothing about Sri Lankan food.Spicy food doesn’t mean you throw half a bottle of crushed red chilli onto the dish. You don’t even deserve a single star for my food order but that’s the least I can give you. I hate to throw food but the food you delivered was not edible, thats $75 worth food in the bin, we slept empty stomach. Separate review on Uber soon.If anyone to try this place, don’t ask them to make it spicy, you will get inedible food loaded with fried and oily crushed red chillies. That’s not authentic Sri Lankan food.

We ordered black chicken curry, crab curry, and Dhal Wade. They are all amazing. I highly recommend the crab curry. It’s delicious to the next level. Will definitely come back to get this dish again.

Small, friendly place with amazing food. The khottu roti was so delicious, it had the perfect amount of spice and tasted incredible. I definitely will come back to try more of their menu

Great food in an unassuming place. A couple of different vegetarian options. Loved their Kothu Roti for main course and Kira Pani (yogurt with a palm sugar syrup) for dessert. Portions are massive, ended up having enough for a whole meal after.

Delicious. Definitely will come back again. I think my favourite was the Kotthu Roti. The portions are also good. They take cash or Venmo.
