Dealing with the passing of a parent for the first time is overwhelming. The folks at Simple Choices, Nicholas Facci in particular, were a true friend guiding us through a difficult time. They handled everything needed which gave us time to focus on getting Dad settled and comfortable. We plan to meet with them very soon to make future arrangements for ourselves, so our kids don’t have to. We can’t thank them enough!
I recently contacted Simple Choices to arrange for the cremation of a dear friend who had passed away unexpectedly. Since I was calling from another state, Nicholas was able to explain the process and the fees - very clear and transparent. He communicated throughout and followed up to make sure the remains and documents had arrived here OK. I cant thank Nicholas enough for his care and professionalism during this time. It made a really difficult situation easier to handle.
Simple Choices made this so easy from 1300 miles away. From the first phone call, I had no concerns with the arrangements or the process. All of the information was shared from the start. I had no lingering questions. Nick made this so easy. I cant thank Simple Choices enough for taking the heavy lifting/burden off my shoulders and handling the arrangements for my brother with dignity and ease.
They are so professional, yet caring and compassionate at the same time. They took care of everything over the phone, providing evidence of the professional care every step of the way. They also have a great selection of urns where we found the perfect one for my brother. I recommend Simple Choices to anyone looking for this service.
Nick was fantastic in making things simple and easy for us. We did mostly everything through the phone and emails, we only had to arrive for payment and some final signatures. Everything was as it should be and the rates seemed very reasonable to us. No need to make things more difficult than they already are, definitely call them if you’re in need.
We would give 10 stars if allowed. Every step of the way was made easier by the caring nature of Nicholas! We never felt pressured to buy something we didnt want and each choice we made was supported by Nick. The entire process was quick and efficient at a time that was most difficult. Simple Choices Cremation Service and Roy and his staff (Nick) treated my family and me with kindness. I highly recommend Simple Choices. The whole pre-planning process was easy (simple!) and well worth the 30 or so minutes it took to get everything done in advance of my fathers passing. When he died, they took him into their care and I never had to do a thing. After the cremation, we met at their funeral home in Troy and my mom selected a beautiful urn from among the many they had to choose from and that brought her peace. Simple Choices provides excellent service at a very fair price.
Nicholas was a great service provider for my mothers arrangements. She changed her mind over the years as she grew older for the arrangements she wished and Nicholas and Roy performed the requests flawlessly. I was very impressed at the ease of the whole process as I was walked through it. This was my first time taking on this sort of task in my life and Nick was just a great professional and handled everything. He is meticulously organized and provided me with all of the documentation I would need in a well organized package. I would certainly recommend this team for their compassion and excellence in duty.

I chose Simple Choices essentially as a last minute decision regarding the handling of services for my mom after she passed, as I did not have much time to get things sorted out, but it was the best decision I could have made. I live quite a few hours from Troy so all my communications with Roy were over the phone or via email, and I was wholly impressed with his response time and sincerity. My brother recently passed away from cancer at home. Simple Choices was my first call as I had use them for my brother and sister previously. After a horrible experience with a local funeral home, who collected my fathers body, we found Simple Choices. Not only did their prices turn out to be half of those of the other home, but their service was exceptional as well. Nick was wonderfully helpful. He took care of the entire process for us in one day, all through email and phone calls. He was genuine, caring and respectful. He had my dads body transported to his place within hours, and the charge for this over one-hour long transport was half of what the local funeral home charged us to bring my dad to their location 15 minutes away from our home (!). We are very grateful to Nick for helping us through this difficult time and making the process so smooth.
Im a year late writing this review, but it was recently the first anniversary of the death in our family and it reminded me that we intended to share our glowing review of Simple Choices but didnt get to it in the months immediately after.At the time, I called around to at least 4-6 different places in the Albany area to understand the cremation options available, at a very stressful time obviously. Roy was BY FAR the most compassionate, patient, responsive, and clear about what to expect. Seriously, you just dont want to deal with the impersonal or callous attitudes that came across in my first phone call with some of the other places that offer cremation services. There wasnt even the smallest hint of anything other than the ideal level of genuine helpfulness from Roy. On top of that the prices were extremely fair, and the environment and decor in the Simple Choices funeral home is very comforting. Looking back, it also feels good to have supported a business & team that is committed to doing the right thing for people at their worst times. They live out ALL the values stated on their website.Oh, and I should also mention just in case anyones looking for this detail in a review - our family isnt Christian, and Roy was nothing but pure kindness and understanding on adjusting the decor in the funeral home for our small family viewing.Roy & team, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you so much for your excellence at serving us at such a difficult time. Simple Choices Cremation along with Roy and his staff were the best choice i ever made for my mom. They treated us like family. they were respectful, understanding and sympathetic. I wish to thank them for all they had done for us.
Though my father was 80 and managing late stage cancer, his sudden death from COVID-19 found me and my family completely unprepared (and there had been no pre-planning). We made one phone call to Roy at Simple Choices an hour after he died -- and that was all that was needed. What we believed to be an almost overwhelming task - making arrangements - was completely relieved in that one telephone conversation, and required little effort on our part. Highly recommend for compassionate efficiency and professionalism.
In a time of need it was so appreciated to have someone like Nicholas to provide his expert guidance and services. He is so perfect in his profession and a truly nice and compassionate guy- his assistant Sue was also a ray of sunshine in such a dark time. Making arrangements were suddenly thrust upon me and I was 500 miles away. I called Roy at Simple Choices and he gave my situation his utmost attention. My father passed on July 15 at 2:00 in the morning. I had started making arrangements with Roy over the phone a couple of days prior to my fathers death but we hadnt completed all of the necessary information. When my father passed at that hour, I had mo idea what to do. The nursing home was requesting I call a local funeral home because they could not keep my fathers body until the normal business hours of the morning. With much hesitation, I called Roy in the middle of the night. Roy answered the phone like he was expecting my call. He assured me I did the right thing by calling him and that he would take care of everything. He urged me to try and get some rest and that we would talk later.Roy made arrangements for my dad to be picked up from the nursing home in a beautiful black Hertz and personally handled my dads cremation. Roy was compassionate, sensitive and so very kind. He took a personal interest in our time of need and made what could have been a horrific experience much easier to deal with.My dad didnt want any services. He simply wanted to be cremated and the cost of having this done through Simple Choices was very affordable. Roys professionalism, care and compassion, however, is priceless. I was actually looking forward to meeting Roy so that I could give him a hug and thank him in person. His funeral home is beautiful and I know my dad was taken care of with dignity and respect.

I lost my father recently and he was very explicit in what he wanted. He told my sisters and I he wanted to be cremated and his ashes spread in places that meant something to him. He didnt want calling hours, just a memorial.I actually googled cremation in Troy and after reading several reviews of the options I chose Simple Choices. When we went to make the arrangements Roy was helpful and caring walked us through everything. Dealing with a passing is never easy and I am so glad I chose Simple Choices. They listed to what we wanted, what my dad wanted, and respected each decision (in this case lack of decisions) we made.Honestly, it feels odd reviewing cremation services but my sister and I really were happy with the choice we made. Nothing could be more difficult than choosing the right funeral home in the midst of grief and disbelief at planning an unexpected send off. We visited 3 different outfits before we found Roy and he made the decision easy. His pricing was transparent and he had a neighborly way of communicating with a family (he kindly answered so many questions). He also has the most marvelous cat that makes it easy to keep things in perspective. In the end we decided on a private viewing. Initially I was a reluctant participant but it was very tasteful. Roy was wonderful. He went out of his way to cater to my family who flew into town for the passing of my mother. He was very responsive and understanding of all of our concerns and questions. He was kind and sincere during a very sad and stressful time. I recommend him and his business over any in the local area as we did look around. Prices are feasible and the hours are more extended than local businesses as well. I would use Simple Choices again if needed and you will not be disappointed.

I found myself unprepared when my husband passed. His wish was to be cremated, he didnt want to be buried in the ground - it had nothing to do with the cost. I found Simple Choices through a Google search and had to make a quick decision. After getting another quote from a funeral home which was twice the cost and talking to Roy at Simple Choices, I made my decision. Even driving to meet Roy at his place of business in Troy I wondered what kind of place I would be going to, a crematorium? Once I drove up to the Riverview Funeral Home which Roy also owns I felt at ease. Although I wasnt having a wake for my husband, meeting in the environment of a beautiful funeral home was more familiar and comforting. Roy was wonderful. To my surprise, I found a unique keepsake for my husbands ashes on display with the more traditional urns. He was an avid fisherman so I knew he would love the beautiful wooden display with a colorful fish on the front - so perfect! I would highly recommend Roy and Simple Choices.

In the most stressful time of my life, I somehow managed to listen to a recommendation (Albany Medical Staff) to contact Simple Choices, in Troy. Prior to that lifeline, I had spoken to 3 other well known funeral directors and found them to be concerned more about the size of my wallet than the pain in my heart. From the moment I called to the time I found myself in his presence, Roy showed empathy on a level that far exceeded his competitors. His demeanor, stature and presentation demonstrated years of commited service to those who have the good fortune to enter his establishment. Roy was amazing. His venue was the perfect setting for making my family feel right at home. He picked up on every nuance and never skipped a beat. My Dad never looked better and the image that will be left for all our family members will be one of peace and love for my Dad.When an eagle flew past my Dads hearse on its way to the National Cemetery, Roy included that and comments that people made along the way, seamlessly into his final words. Simple Choices was recommended to us by a health care professional during my brothers last hours in the hospital. Recently a friend of mine lost his mother,she had made her wishes known that she wanted to be a direct cremation and to have a Memorial Service. He had no clue of even where to begin as far as the process. I researched Simple Choices, Inc., as a result of seeing there commercials. I advised my friend to call and make an appt to have a consultation of pre arrangement and options available. Simple Choices, Inc., is located in the beautiful Riverview Funeral Home in Troy,NY......Upon arrival were greeted by Mr. Roy Bordeau. At the consultation, in a very comfortable setting, he asked what the deceased wishes were and from that he compiled the necessary information, asked questions, suggested and provided all information and merchandise options available.....He walked through the entire process from beginning to end.....This pre arrangement was May 28, ,2019 and the decedant passed on June 15th.......Roy carried out everything according to the plans and all went well and, just as he had said. Cremation is now becoming a more popular part in todays funeral services. For Excellence in services, Quality and Affordability......Call Roy, I highly recommend him at Simple Choices,Inc. We had a death in the family awhile back we felt rushed by Mr. Roy. It was kind of like he had something better to do. Our family had another death 2 weeks ago and went some place else for cremation. The cost was the same amount. In talking to the other funeral director we were told we had a burial benefit for the first cremation in which Mr. Roy or Mr. Nick never told us at Simple Choice. Since she was in a nursing home for years, this would have saved us a lot of money for my family. I feel you are very green when it comes to funeral benefits for the people you serve. Also I did find funeral homes that were less in cost than yours in the Albany area. All funeral directors seem nice and professional, for the ones I have met at a time of need.CS Brown
My Father passed away and it was a very difficult time for me. Besides having just lost a parent, I was also lost as to how to go about making arrangements and so forth. Relatives commented on how beautifully the service went. This is high praise because members of our community had used a certain funeral home for decades. When a traditional and well-known provider is no longer available in this situation, it is a big switch during a stressful time.I was impressed with Mr. Bordeau, his knowledge of how to get things done quickly and effectively. He found an excellent priest to perform a service, when our first, second, and third choices were unavailable. We had a clear picture of what we wanted, visitation and buddhist rites at our home in Albany, minimal disturbance of the body prior to cremation, and a simple ceremony at Oakwood Cemeteries in Troy. Roy Bordeau of Simple Choices worked with us each step of the way and he brought humanity and creativity to the task. He helped us stay without our budget and even wound up serving personally as one of the pall bearers.And simplicity doesnt mean lack of service: Weeks after the cremation, it turned out there was an issue with the death certificate, and the bureau of vital statistics wanted me to obtain letters from Social Security to correct their own mistakes. Simple Choices resolved it directly with them, picking up the documentation from me and delivering the corrected certificates. Having seen many cynical funeral businesses in the past, I have been grateful for their professionalism and integrity.

In May 2015 Simple Choice handled my mothers arrangements, I live out of state, they came to the place where I was staying in the area. They sat down with my family made the arrangements that followed the timeline that we needed. They even picked up the ashes and delivered them to us in order for us to have them in time for my mothers memorial services. They were very professional and compassionate. I have recommended there services to other and I would use them again.
Losing a loved one is one of the hardest things we have to experience as human beings. Emotions of sadness and emptiness consume us. We have to make closure decisions of when, how and where we place our loved ones to rest, while dealing with the sadness simultaneously. Roy was a blessing to us by taking care of all the things we asked him to do. If I could go back in time and make those decisions all over again, I wouldnt change anything and I especially would not change having Roy be the person to do it. Thank you Roy, for making this sad time easier. Your compassion for our dear Eleanor and for us was over the top.

Roy is wonderful. He is very efficient and takes care of everything. I made several calls to get prices and I can tell you that you won’t find a better price. He was the lowest I found. If you’re thinking he must offer less for such a good price, you would be wrong. He made everything so easy for me. I was about 50 minutes away from his place and he worked with me through email so I could complete the necessary paperwork without having to drive there to just sign papers. When I finally went there I was very impressed with the place. It is extremely clean, very comfortable and peaceful.
My brother Mickey Milan Milanese died August 7 in his home in Florida, and his Services were here in Troy Aug. 20. 2022-01-10I was referred to Simple Choices Cremation Service through they hospice social worker. In the days prior to actual need, many other hospice employees also mentioned working with Simple Choices is easy, effortless, professional. When the time came, Roy was at my home within half hour of the call. He was compassionate, caring, professional, and respectful not only of our needs but also the dignity my loved one deserved to be treated with. Roy was very well organized with needed paperwork, expected time frames for death certificate and picking up the ashes. He went above and beyond to answer my questions throughout the process and I am so very grateful for his services during a very difficult time.

2022-05-14Simple Choices was selected by my father before he died. I was not familiar with them and they are located a bit far from our house in Delmar. But we wanted to respect my dad’s wishes, of course, so we went with Simple Choices. My brother, mother, and I could not have been happier with their services. Roy and Nicholas were wonderful to work with. They allowed us to have a beautiful private family viewing time with my dad before he was cremated. The entire interaction with them from beginning to end was professional, respectful and truly as pleasurable as it could have been under the circumstances. I would highly recommend Simple Choices to others.

2022-05-26I would like to personally thank Nick for everything he has done for my family and I. My father passed away May 10, 2022. My father had his cremation set up with Simple Choice for many years. I am thankful that my dad chose this place and went through the arrangements to have how he wanted everything to be done when he passed. When he passed Nick was very sincere and came and got my dad. The beautiful bag that covered him up when they took him from his home was very heart felt, they respected how he was going to look when he was transported. Nick was very informative through the process. When I went to Simple Choice to pick up my dads ashes, I pulled up and the place is so beautiful. I felt my dad was taking care of peacefully. It was raining that day and when we walked out to my Jeep it had stopped and the sun came out. I looked across the road and noticed the river was so peaceful. That was my sign my dad was happy to be back home with us. I can not thank Nick enough from Simple Choice what a wonderful experience in this difficult time, I know its more than just a job for him just helping families, he truly cares about what he does. 2022-05-01If I could give more than 5 stars I would. My brother and I lost our dad this past week. We were in a very difficult situation as although he was not well his death was sudden and accompanied by layers of painful aspects for us. Plus my brother had Covid so we couldnt face this together, only from afar via the phone. My family and I, In the midst of terrible pain and trauma had to make haste as the hospital he passed in has a small morgue, After researching we came across Simple Choices. After reading through the reviews and then speaking to Nicholas we knew we had found what felt like a miracle. Nicholas was professional, kind, empathetic, caring and knowledge. His communication was excellent and specific during every part of the process. Not having much time along with painful grieving makes you vulnerable so the relief that we felt from knowing we could trust in them is something we will be forever grateful for. After our dads cremation was complete and his ashes were back at their funeral home, we went to meet Nicholas. Every aspect of the experience, from the view of the Hudson River they have to the beautiful outdoor and indoor comforting environment and the care and detail we received I cannot recommend enough. We were able to meet Roy who has over 40 years of funeral directing experience, is the owner and was Nicks mentor. One of the tragedies of our situation was not being able to see dad before his sudden passing so the fact that Roy and Nick themselves accompanied him and then being able to meet and shake hands with those we trusted so much is just another comfort they provided for us. I look forward to my brother being able to meet them as he was only able to speak to Nick over the phone. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts and we know you will continue to provide the excellent, professional, caring and empathetic service you provided for us to all other fortunate families who, in the most difficult of times, find their way to you as we did.

2022-05-31My mother passed away very suddenly. Nothing was planned or prepared for her. There was no will, no plan of what we would be doing for her services as she was still very young. She also didn’t have much, affordability was key in giving mom the best options available to us. When all of this happened, we contacted Simple Choices and were presented with the best service. Nicholas was polite and sympathetic, he understood the urgency that we needed in order to say goodbye to my mother, and set realistic expectations for expedited service, as I live on the other side of the country. They took all of the hard work out of preparing for the cremation, outside of some personal details needed to prepare her Death Certificate. This included transportation of her body for preparation from Saratoga to the crematorium, he order the required certificates for us, contacted some appropriate parties, followed our wishes, and communicated perfectly keeping us up to date on everything. I really appreciated his constant availability and sympathy, respect for my mother, and never once felt like I was just a customer. I would recommend Simple Choices services to anyone looking for assistance in preparing for departing services of their loved ones.

2022-01-25On behalf of the Olivo family, we would like to thank Simple Choices for the respectful, honest, and caring service they recently provided on our behalf after our mother died.Upon our inquiry, they provided a clear explanation of the process and of the costs involved. The prices were significantly less than the lowest price we had been quoted by a funeral home for the same services. This was important because our father had incurred months of medical expenses for our mothers care.After she died and it came time to initiate the process, they arrived quickly and were empathetic and efficient while at the house.They returned the ashes in a timely manner and provided all the necessary documents.In the end, there were no price changes or hidden fees.Our father says they deserve an A+ in every category, and he rarely gives high marks!

2022-01-25My experience with Roy and Nick in just one word.. PERFECT These sweet, caring guys made an unbearable task easier than I ever imagined. I met with Roy on Saturday afternoon. We did all the paperwork that was made extremely simple by him. Knowing we were from out of town, he thought he could have Pas ashes back by Tuesday. He called me MONDAY morning at 9:30 with everything ready to pick up. I truly cannot thank these AMAZING men enough for their service. I recommend them wholeheartedly. After my mother passed, my dad, younger brother, my husband and myself were left with a lot of decisions to make and not so much information to go on. We knew that mom would want things simple, cost effective and not elaborate or sad… That is exactly what we got from Roy and Nicholas. They were both professional, knowledgeable, sensitive and hard-working. I never had to step foot in the funeral home, I never even met them face-to-face until mom‘s remains were dropped off with dad… They kept us informed, we did everything by phone or electronic device and it was handled swiftly with so much professionalism. I never want to be in this situation again, although I know we can’t avoid it, but if I am, I know exactly who to turn to… Roy and Nicholas run a great business in the worst times of your life… But they make you feel like you could not have picked a better outfit to work with.
