Surreal. simple. whimsical. not a reason to visit new york, but a true hidden treasure. the art isnt only in skill, but in dedication—you can easily knock them over(dont). there shoukd be no worry of soil erosion as there is still plenty of rocks and its really not a major issue that the park is facing. live and let live. worth the walk.
The artist maintained the rocks standing for over a year over and over after people kept knocking them down, he would just go and put them back up. Dedication to the arts. It has the Hudson River and The George Washington Bridge as a back drop. No far from the famous Little Red Light House (Yes the one from the children’s book that goes by the same name. )
I thought these were somehow cemented to each other but not so ! Someone carefully balances one upon the other and some of the stones are large and heavy. Im sure the weather causes the smaller stones to topple and Im sure some people knock them over. I asked a park ranger about this and he said a man was there almost every day to reconstruct the the fallen stones. I dont know any more but I get the feeling this is a big part of someones life.

2021-08-27These are fun to look at. If you look very closely at one stack of rocks (the one that is closest to the George Washington Bridge, on the edge of the Hudson) you’ll see that it was cemented together. I did not see any others cemented together though. I’m surprised that people haven’t knocked these down!

2022-07-05Waste of time! Drove almost 4 hours from New Hampshire to see what the stones were all about. What we saw was something anyone can do. The pictures online werent anything like it was in person, nearly half of it was gone. At least it was free and my boyfriend and I took a great photo of us and the bridge.

2020-10-11Loving the walk on this area and making a stop at the Sisyphus stones park is a nice and calm moment, the dynamics of the equilibrium , the focus on the stones surrounded by the park a d the Hudson River make this place a delight. In Greek mythology Sisyphus or Sisyphos was the king of Ephyra. He was punished for his self-aggrandizing craftiness and deceitfulness by being forced to roll an immense boulder up a hill only for it to roll down every time it neared the top, repeating this action for eternity.

2020-10-09Beautiful views of the bridge and the sliver of the city down south. Lovely to walk by and see. It is great to see and interpret the stones from the mythology of Sisyphus.

2018-07-22Met the creator while trying to create one of my own sculptures. Went on to have one of the best conversations Ive had all year. One man provides meaning to so many people simply by arranging stones a certain way, a lesson on the potential we have to influence the world for the better through the simplest of actions.

2019-06-25Great art work! At first glance you think it’s a weird rock formation but of course as you get closer you start to notice its man-made or is it??? :)
