What a horrible meal and service. I ordered the French onion soup and the shell steak well done. Both served at the same time. When the steak returned it was ice cold. I asked them for a new steak because you cant really recook well done steak. They agreed and guess what?I just canceled my dinner and went home.
Everything I ordered was incredible, I had the spare ribs that were unbelievable so tender, the steak cooked to perfection, my nephew and girlfriend enjoyed the chicken ceasar salad as well, we had a wonderful incredible time, waiter so polite and was right there when needed, there is nothing that disappointed us!! Looking forward to going back.
This place NEVER MISSES. It’s our go-to because if we’re hungry but too tired to cook or too lazy to find a new place or too scared to experiment with something new, this is always the result we end up with.Personal favorites: chilli, French onion, chicken pot pie, burgers, fried chicken sandwich, chicken franchese, THE RIBS/mashed 🤤 basically everything is deliciousThe staff and service is always on point.
Me and a friend of mine was looking for a quick local spot to have a drink and came across this hidden jewel. I found parking around the corner from the spot and walked over. When arrived we were greeted and told we can sit wherever we want so we sat on the bar stools table top. A very nice server/bartender named Jenn came over to serve us and I must say she is the sole reason I am giving this establishment a 5 star rating. She was awesome! We ordered or drinks, mine was a pinot nior and my friend had a beer and a surprise mixed drink which was good. We also had to order fries but I didnt indulge in but they looked good. Everything was pretty good and I enjoyed my experience very much and hope to be back.
I came here recently for lunch because of all the buzz I saw about this place on a page I follow on Facebook. The food and service was very good and the place isnt noisy with loud music. Everything came out shortly after I ordered it. I got the French Onion Soup which was pretty good. It had the right amount of flavor and melted cheese on top. My Bloody Mary Cocktail was also great. I also got the Reuben Sandwich with a side order of Fries. There was so much food that I couldnt even finish it and I was full for the rest of the day. You really get your monies worth with this place and the prices are very reasonable. I was surprised that the Soup was only $6.00. Most pubs charge more. The only con would be that the appearance needs a bit of a touch up, including the bathroom downstairs. Otherwise, this is a great place for a quick bite to eat. I will definitely come back in the future. I heard the burgers, ribs and seafood is pretty good.
Have been here a couple of times. The servers are quick to greet you and constantly check up on the tables. Ive had the swiss burger and the ribs. The burger was good and the ribs were great, meat just fell right off the bone. French onion soup here is great as well. Great neighborhood spot.
Came here on a busy Saturday night, 10 minute wait at most. The place was packed with bar goers enjoying the game. We were seated in the back. Loved the decor! The service was great the food was delicious.Once we were seated, water and bread was set on the table right away. Our waitress took our drink orders quickly while we continued to browse the menu. We ordered the French onion soup to share. I ordered the bbq baby back ribs with sweet potato fries. My boyfriend ordered the French dip with fries. The onion soup arrived, looked just like any other place but looks are deceiving! The onion soup was so good! It was the best French onion soup weve ever had. Cheesy, lots of onion, not to salty, and just the right amount of bread. Our entrees arrived right after they took our soup away. My ribs were so good! They were very generous with the portions. I got 2 racks of ribs. They were fall off the bone! The sweet potato fries were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside! Best Ive had in a very long time. My boyfriends French dip sandwich came with a pickle, slaw, and fries. The garlicky bread they used added extra flavor to the sandwich. The dip was rich in flavor and light at the same time.If youre around the neighborhood do check this place out. I highly recommend this place. Food and service are amazing!
I loved the decor. Looks like you walked back in time. The service was very good, but the good was only ok. I got the Shepards pie, but it was not Shepards pie. It was beef stew smothered in mashed potato. Definitely none of the traditional ingredients Im used to cooking it with and tasting. It wasnt BAD... but it wasnt what you expect. I also wish they had a traditional buffalo wing. The pecan pie is super though! Id come again to try something else for sure.
Stopped into Skinflints for drinks after walking through Dyker Heights to look at the neighborhood Christmas decorations. Sat at the bar and drank 2 Manhattans. The bartender was good, and the mood was quiet but genial. It seemed like a great place. Id like to go back for a meal sometime.
Roast beef sandwich was awesome but the fries were a little to burned. Waitress was very nice so Im sure if I sent back the fries it wouldnt be an issue. I would go again but I feel this mandatory vacations for everyone to have lunch is ridiculous. I feel bad for the owners who Im sure lose a lot of customers.
First off: the food, drinks, and service are always and consistently good. I dont eat out too often, but when I do: this place is always a consideration. Theyve got a really great indoors (Im skipping indoors because of Covid, so....theyve also got a great outdoor seating area.Second: this restaurant is incredibly generous to the senior citizens who live here. Every year they donate a delicious Thanksgiving meal to a huge amount of senior citizens. Seniors in this neighborhood speak often and fondly of the lovely Thanksgiving service donated by Skinflints. Bravo, bravo, bravo for the kind people at Skinflints! This year, amidst the Covid hell, they still did it.I dont know owns this restaurant, but I know they have a big heart. If you spend your own money here, you should know that they money is being reinvested in the elder population. Three cheers, guys.UPDATE: I sadly had to attend the funeral of an elderly friend, after which was the mercy meal, held at my friends favorite pub: Skinflints. They did a great job of checking vaccine cards and IDs, and the staff was great: very helpful and accommodating to a somewhat disorganized group of post funeral-goers. The food was good (as always), but I also want to thank the staff for yes-ing any request that the guests had. From the hostesses, to the manager (Joseph), to the bussers and waiters, everyone worked hard to be warm and welcoming to everyone in the group. This place is just a great gem, and Im glad to have them in our neighborhood.
Sat at the bar for the first time since moving into the neighborhood. Exactly what I thought it would be: sports on the TV, warm welcoming bartnender, cold beers, people who know each other for years, great ecclectic playlist and friendly people who keep topping off your drink. The food menu is simple but very good!
Service and staff are great! The place is nice and their sidewalk/street setup is quaint and cozy adding to the experience. I craved a cheeseburger got one, it was nothing special but I expected more and the cheese came from a can so I wont be getting that the next time for sure. However, with the exception of the cheese, everything was fresh and freshly made.
They have a Half-Rack of Ribs Appetizer with choice of side that is to die for. As soon as you pick up a rib, it falls off the bone. It is That slow cooked. The steak options are to die for.And my Girlfriend really live the huge portion of Spanish Paella. They are always out of the Manhattan Clam Chowder. You have to get here early for that.
So the stars are for the decor and vibe if the place. I do like the dated decor and unique pieces found around and the stain glass. I would definitely go back for a drink but not for the food. We had the French onion soup and provolone burgers. Both were honestly very bland and I am not a fan of the English muffins used for the burgers. I dont agree that they work well together as many reviews state. Me and my friend are on a mission to taste some of the highly rated burger places and this one really missed the mark on the food. Good service and cool vibe, but I would eat somewhere else.
Was there for dinner and a few drinksA bay ridge staple for many years. Been going there since the 90s.Place u well kept a local crowd and from all over to.The bar is well stocked service is good. The food is great bar food. Never had a bad meal there always on point.Menu choices are good a good mix of different dishes. The crowd is very mixed weekends are busier.Ill always be back.
I’ve been coming to Skinflints for over 10 years now. It’s a neighborhood favorite. Your guaranteed fair prices on your food and drinks. Food is always a generous amount and taste good. When we’re not sure where to eat, we always know Skinflints won’t disappoint. In all the years I have come here...I’ve never had any issues. Bartenders and waiters are always to par.
(PRE-COVID) Service needs to be improved. We were told by a young male waiter to order in the next few minutes and eat quickly as their main dining room was closing. The waiter should have told us we could sit and order at the bar - which was open for another hour. I couldn’t enjoy my food, and the waiter was in such a rush to clock out, he gave us our check immediately after we ordered. Give your customer all their options instead of pressuring them. The wings and french onion dip sandwich is to die for but not sure if it’s worth it. Come for the food, not the service!
Excellent restaurant! Amazing food. The only thing is that—they have not yet set up a website or listed a proper menu. Unfortunately, I don’t order form the quite often because Im not able to see their menu.I think that would help them with more orders, especially during the pandemic. Otherwise, I’ve got not to complain about.
Service was very good. We had a table for eight. It was ready on time. Make no mistake about it, its bar food. But its good bar food. Everyone was pleased with their plates. Our waiter wea attentive without being intrusive. Nice neighborhood joint to sit and relax. Although, it is a bar, so it tends to be loud.
Love their Sunday brunch. Their French onion soup is delicious. Their burgers are cooked to your request, so juicy and delicious. Everybody in my family enjoyed their food. Very busy place, the server is very friendly and patient with my family, table full of people with all different ages.
Terrible food ordered gotten an hour later burger was cold with zero flavor salad was thrown together and fries soggy and cold chicken wings were short one and no flavor $40 down the drain would have been much better at McDonald’s for $10 atleast it would taste good and not like I’m eating cold cardboard!!!
I will never go back to this establishment again. I have never been treated so poorly in my life. Not to mention the food & drinks were horrible. If your not Caucasian, do not go to this establishment. The employees & some of the customers, will make sure youll never want to return. This is the first time in my life, that I didnt leave the waitress a tip.
In my opinion, this is one of the best places in Bay Ridge for a burger.Ive been enjoying Skinflints for over 25 years. Their menu choices are plenty and they offer a great variety of chicken and beef dishes. Theyre consistent with quality, care and portion size.Their waitstaff is never bothersome but seems to be attentive to your needs without being overbearing.Ive never had a bad experience at Skinflints and really recommend it.
Always a fun time. I been here for lunch, dinner, day drinking, and just a stop in for a drink. Food is always on point. Drinks are good. I have sat at the bar and at a table. The burgers are great, the grilled chicken cesar salad, and the sandwiches are all great. Company is always fun also.
Nice ambiance and decor. Lots of wood and somewhat dim lighting with lots of chatskies on the wall to invoke that cozy old pub feeling.Waiting staff is friendly enough and just attentive enough, busboy/waiter was very eager to remove our plates as soon as we were done...However the food was a letdown. The onion soup was good but my chicken vegetable soup came with dry chicken, how do you do that? and very very mushy vegetables. Both me and my wife is steaks. I ordered a steak that was on the specials list, forgot what it was called but was supposed to come with a light cognac sauce (I think) and mushrooms. The mushrooms were very present, piled high but I really couldnt detect any sauce. Same goes for my wife who ordered the French grilled steak with plenty of options but really missing red wine, cognac and garlic.
WARNING: DO NOT COME HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE VERBALLY ASSAULTED AND CHASED DOWN THE SIDEWALK BY THEIR WAITSTAFF.Came here last night with a couple of friends. Sat at the bar and had some tasty food and great cocktails. Seeing that we had such a good experience, we decided to come back tonight for dinner. We arrive a little before 5pm and the restaurant wasnt very busy. At first, we enjoyed our time; however, things quickly went south when it came time to cash out. After waiting nearly 20 minutes for the waiter to swing by, a different waiter came to see what we needed. We asked for separate checks, if possible, and he said it wouldnt be a problem. The three of us continued to wait for an additional 30 minutes while every waiter moved about the non-busy restaurant.Having to get the waiters attention, he stated that hes working on it. Fast forward 10 more minutes, we finally had our checks. After waiting an additional 10 minutes for the waiter to return to run two of our cards, we were obviously aggravated. On my ticket, I wrote, Waiting over 30 minutes for our check sucks then we left. This is when things get CRAZY.Our waiter ran out of the restaurant and followed us down the sidewalk all while yelling and screaming at us. Through a stream of expletives, he continued to scream and accosted my friend. He was violent and was preparing to have a physical altercation with our friend. After several minutes of yelling and screaming and acting a fool, he retreated back into the restaurant.DO NOT COME TO THIS RESTAURANT!!!! The waiter - a man with arm-sleeve tattoos and facial hair - came dangerously close to physically harming my friend while screaming threats to myself and my friend.I REPEAT - DO NOT COME TO THIS RESTAURANT UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE ASSAULTED. I fully plan on filing official complaints.
Great atmosphere, very nice and friendly staff. But food... We ordered fried calamari and cheddar burger. Calamari was okey, nothing special. But burger was owful. I expected juicy patty but it was dry and not salted at all. I would like to come back but just for drinks.
This is a true NYC gem, the decor has not changed Im not sure in how long, the food, service and hospitality the same, amd thank goodness. There menu is very traditional american bar, but NOTHING is to be missed especially there burgers served with home made fries on a giant English muffin. Price? $9 bucks for a regular burger, and if you want to fancy it up the most expensive one is $11.95... Worth it!
Ive been going here since I was a baby so Im biased, but one of the best stops in Brooklyn. Its an authentic Brooklyn pub in the heart of Bay Rigde. A favorite among locals, and for anyone that stumbles upon it. Amazing burgers, served on english muffins, french onion soup, shrimp scampi, and fish and chips are all amazing too. Decent beer selection, nothing to craft so craft beer lovers will have limited options, but a great bar. I love Skinflints.
The appetizers are always great to Calamar and the chicken wings are fantastic Burgers are always on the money you can also get good shepherd pie and chicken pot pies the only reason it doesnt get V Star is because the owner gets cheap doesnt include celery and carrots the cheapest things in the world to throw on the plate with the chicken wings come on now short arms Deep Pockets
Timeless, classic, Irish Brooklyn pub. Doesnt get much better around these areas. Would strongly recommend this place for either a mid-day family outing, evening drinks, or late night shots with the boys. This place is flexible and capable enough to provide the ambiance for wide range of gatherings.
Ive been here so many times, never a bad experience which is why I go back. Tonight was my worst experience here... we waited at the bar for 15 minutes for a table, no big deal, because we got drinks, and its normal for any place after 7pm on a Friday night. Get seated and our waiter comes over after about 10 minutes and asks if were ready to order. Say we need a couple more minutes for food, but want an app and some more drinks. App and beer gets brought to the table by someone else. Flash forward 20 minutes, said waiter comes back and says are you ready to order yet? We have a waitlist for tables. Uhhh yeah weve been ready! Place our food orders. 20 minutes later food comes and one of our four orders isnt right. Wait for the waiter to come back, he realizes that he messed it up. We order more drinks. Flash forward another 15 minutes, replacement food comes out but still no drinks. 5 minutes later, drinks arrive after we ask again. Everyone eats and drinks, were ready to go... really to get out of there. Not sure what was going on tonight, but another table that sat down a few minutes after us had to ask for a bread basket and was just placing their food orders when our food was being brought to the table. Same waiter. Another table was asked to leave after sitting too long once they were done and paid the bill.I get it - Friday night busy. But Im not sure that I would manage it the way it was managed tonight if it were my choice, especially since what was going on was clear to the other guests. Might choose another place next time.
We have been coming here for years. Although It can be dark when you are sitting in the dining hall, there is an option for the second room and a backyard space for eating that is more bright. Wheel chair access for both sitting and for bathroom. The staff is always friendly and the food is delicious. They have bar foods (mozz sticks, potatoe skins, burgers, wings and ribs) but they also have more dinner selections like chicken franchese, chicken pot pies and steak sandwiches. They stay open late on the weekends which is nice after a night out in Bay ridge and you are looking for some apps with friends. If you do not care to eat, you can also just visit here for drinks in the front part of the restaurant.
LOVE SKINFLINTS! BEST BURGERS! ALSO ALL THE OTHER FOOD ON THE MENUE IS DELICIOUS!GREAT SERVICE & A GREAT BARVERY FRIENDLY BARTENDERS & NICE PEOPLE AT THE BAR.GERARD THE OWNER MAKES SKINFLINTS BEAUTIFUL@CHRISTMAS!ITS A GREAT PLACE!WHERE EVERYBODY KNOWS YOUR NAME!😁ANGELA
Rude and disgusting employees with attitudes that work here never in my life have I been treated so low! I wouldn’t recommend coming here specially if you are looking for a good time. Horrible atmosphere I am very angry I wasted my time coming all the way to this place to have such a bad experience. Don’t come here!!!!
...but they wouldnt give me any! I was seated promptly, a busboy brought me a basket of unappetizing dessicated breadsticks, and I was then just left there to twiddle my thumbs and fantasize about how great a burger and beer would taste. No one even offered to bring me a drink. At one point, I managed to catch a servers eye and settled down when I heard her call around a corner Youre taking care of number eight, right? Assuming I was at table 8, I thought my server would now be along promptly. Nope. I was finally forced to walk out and find somewhere else to eat. I should add that the place was in no way crowded tonight.I wouldnt be quite so ticked off if this wasnt the SECOND time Ive tried unsuccessfully to eat here. The first time wasnt really their fault as it WAS very crowded that night, but I was told I would have a table in a few minutes, then left to stand in the bar for a quarter of an hour. (In my mind, a few means five minutes, maybe 10. Not 15.) I was forced to walk out that evening as well, as I had literally become dizzy with hunger. Thats OK not being able to serve a patron promptly when busy, but dont tell shell be seated shortly when she wont, and when she comes back, FEED HER. As things stand, I will never darken this establishments doorstep again. Inexcusable.
A hidden gem you only find in the part of 5th ave below 86th the food is excellent the atmosphere is friendly HELL ITS JUST THE KIND OF PLACE YOU WANA DRINK BEER ALL AFTERNOON stop in on a early Saturday afternoon and youll get the real essence of the place its just nice joint reminds me of the way hunters ale house use to be before they closed the OTB
Theres been an old-school restaurant or diner on this spot since forever. Skinflints keeps up the tradition with faux stained glass, wood everything, and evokes a pub from the old country (which old country? All of them, based on the mishmash of styles). It caters to a clientele of older folks grabbing an early-bird dinner and sedate pub-goers looking to watch a game in the cavernous (for a local bar) front room. Be sure to try out their English-muffin burgers, the only gimmick youll find in this otherwise low-key spot.
A must visit if youre in Bay Ridge for lunch or dinner. It has a great neighborhood vibe (the bar is always filled with regulars),and its fabulously mismatched decor—think Victorian stained glass meets Irish pub meets... thrift store?—feels like home. Skinflints has the best burger in Bay Ridge, distinctly served on an English muffin.
Great, really nice Resturant/Bar a step back in time love thereCHICKEN FRANCAISE, among other dishes on there menu, the waitress, bartenders are attentive & pleasant, the place has a grate vibe, very welcoming, they stop delivering at 4pm& Doordash does a bad job, wish they used another service, your customers deserve better service when ordering your take out, please give it a think.
44 yrs customer, I had my first ice cream pop n egg creams here every day on my way home from school, I love this place n now my kids n grandkids n friends all come here aswell..however Im a bit dissapointed from my last 2 visits..the food is always good, and the service was always great, until one waiter became mgmnt I think, and hes loud and obnoxious, and a sarcastic ah..heres my experience I asked for the salmon platter and asked particularly what was in the spinach sauteed ?garlic he said ,then I said oh good because Im allergic to other onions. But the spinach came with onions, So I suggested that they include them on the menu because there are ppl out here allergic to onions.(a simple suggestion) another waiter came, got loud ,n bend outta shape all he kept saying was let me know if you need an ambulance because we dont want you to sue us,Ill call you an ambulace..(in sarcasm way) trying to embarrass me in front of my 8 guests..then after I told him politely I was only making a suggestion, I took allergy med .n I was fine, he kept arguing that the spinach had only shallots or scallions!.....lol (onions). Well I wont stop going there because its a fam tradition place for us here in my hometown but I wont be tippin that guy anymore ,the $48.tip better last him.Everyone else, the rest of the staff n bartenders ,cheffs, cooks ,owner all friendly curtious n wonderful.i would give this place a 5 stars if it wasnt for that waiter.
STILL THE BEST BURGER IN BROOKLYN ! AMERICAN MENU, REASONABLY PRICED. LONG TIME OWNERS (BILL & GERARD) ARE THERE ALMOST EVERY DAY & ARE VERY ACCOMODATING IN THEIR OLD FASHIONED EARLY 1940S BARRESTAURANT. FAMILY FRIENDLY. ENOUGH T.V.s TO KEEP SPORTS FANS HAPPY. CANT GO WRONG VISITING THIS BAY RIDGE LAND MARK !

2021-12-24Hands down best burger in Bayridge. The vibe is old school the beer is cold. What else you need? This place is seriously good. The decor is classic. Can’t wait to try the whole menu.

2022-06-23Excellent service from the moment we walked in the door. The owner greeted us and showed us around so we could choose where we wanted to sit. Theres the bar area with the TV screens at the front. Then theres a long and wide dining room, to the left of it theres a smaller dining room which is much more quiet. This smaller room leads to a very nice outdoor dining patio. They also have two very cool and well decorated dining enclosures outside the restaurant. The French onion soup was delicious. I had really great plate of fish and chips. My wife really liked her pasta plate. Service was friendly and very accommodating. We had a great time dining at this restaurant thats been around for over 42 years. We cant wait to go back.

2022-01-17French Onion soup was really good. Burgers on English muffins were not my favorite but everyone else seemed to like them. Service was impeccable. Our server was really friendly and treated our table very well. Drinks were good as well.

2021-11-25I came here on vacation for dinner with my aunt and uncle. We dont have places like this back home. It felt like we were in a scene from a local bar in a holiday movie. They had the place decorated really nice. Staff was very friendly and food was really good. The heat was a little much and I had to go outside a few times to cool down but at one point they cooled the place down and it got better. Definitely would recommend this place.

2022-04-26I always liked Skinflints. Moved out of Bklyn years ago, but do visit. Their food was good as usual. Normal bar food. Chicken scampi was delicious. 4 stars for the too old tables, chairs and low lighting in the dining area. One chair was broken and thank God nobody sat on it. The furnishings are just old and need replacing. Lights in dining area need an update too. Why such low lighting? It makes this reviewer think. Im sure the bar area too needs an update. Always packed there so theres no reason to not spruce it up a bit. Just my opinion 🤷

2022-06-21Skinflints has been in business in Bay Ridge 42 years for a reason. The food, drinks and service are incredible. (Best onion soup in NYC BTW). Theres a bar area, indoor dining, sidewalk dining and backyard garden dining. You can order your food as YOU like it- no problem. They are very friendly and attentive. They also deliver.
