I feel like I will get a little hate for these 3 stars because the reviews are all much higher but I just couldn’t do it. We love love love bbq and unfortunately the marinade or seasoning was just not a hit for us.Atmosphere: is wonderful. We really loved the brick walls and open feeling of the whole space.Service: our waitress was wonderful and everything was served generally quick.Food: we got the ribs and meat combo and added an extra meat to the platter. The ribs weren’t fall of the bone tender and the seasoning was not something we enjoyed. The brisket wasn’t bad. The pulled pork we barely touched. We just over all didn’t love the flavor of the sauce and rub. The corn bread was good but $2 for a single slice felt like too much. When we tried the bbq sauce on its own we couldn’t tell if it was cumin or something was very over powering.Maybe it was just an off day and I really wanted to love the place but it wasn’t our favorite.
Ive lived within spitting distance of Massapequa my entire life, and I put off trying out Smokin Als for far too long. Having finally gone tonight, my only regret is not going sooner! The food is good and the portions, in a word, dinosauric. Im a glutton, so I happily finished my meal, but be prepared to take home leftovers if youre of a more typical stomach capacity. Additionally, the service is swift, and the servers themselves are personable and attentive. I will most definitely be back, but until then, I will be fasting. (I told you all the portions were huge.)
Third or fourth time here and will return in the future. Last I was here it was pretty crowded but was seated in less than 45 minutes. Food and drinks came quick. No brainer in terms of recommending this restaurant. 10/10 every time so far. Only complaint is that the collard greens need some more seasoning but other than that no real issues.
Really delicious! The fried pickles were unexpectedly HUGE and amazing. Smokin Als will for sure not disappoint with portion sizes. Danielle was our server and she is great at what she does; always checking up to see if we needed anything, giving us extra sauces, friendly attitude. A+ for Danielle, thank you! Will always come back here whenever Im in New York. Everything was TOP NOTCH. highly recommend!
The food here is absolutely delicious, and its decorated cute inside. I went on Saturday night and it was pretty busy, but we were able to get the table for two. My only complaint would be that the food is a little bit on the pricey side.. and I normally love collard greens but I wasnt really a fan. The mashed potatoes however, were the best! I thought the portion sizes could be a little bit bigger as well, but overall it was really good.
The ribs were fine. I had mine dry and my husband had sauce on his. He really liked his ribs. I thought mine were just fine. The real issue for me, however, is not the ribs. It’s the macaroni and cheese. It is terrible. It is clearly made from processed, artificial cheese. It is not even as good as boxed macaroni. I truly think that any chef working at a restaurant that puts the stamp of approval on this macaroni and cheese should be embarrassed. IF we go back, I will certainly not be ordering the macaroni and cheese.
I usually dont write reviews but this place, unfortunately deserves one for the good of the restaurant.I had dinner with my son and we were very disappointed.Onion soup was very salty.Chicken was dryFries were soggyCorn has no flavorCornbread was wet soggyAnd service was not good.To many staff members hanging out no paying attention to guest., not even management presence after we mentioned that we didnt like our food at all to the hostess/busser.Definitely not $75 dollars worth it.
Service was great. For me personally there was no seasoning to the food it definitely had the Smokey flavor but where was the seasoning. I had the combo chicken and baby back ribs the meat was tender but they were not fall off the bones ribs…. Good experience but probably won’t be back.
Very good ribs and brisket Omgggg!!! 🤤🤤 Bbq sauce is very average. Best sides are the baked beans and coleslaw. Very good! The reason for lost star is because the drinks weren’t good at all. The mash potatoes tasted old, didn’t enjoy them very much. However, the atmosphere is very cute, the service is friendly and the food is good.
Was A little disappointed with the takeout...the mac and cheese had no cheese flavor at all...sweet potato fries were under cooked..ribs were a bit well done which had a very dry taste too the meat and had to be drowned with the sauce. Im a fan of smokin als and have had several party size takeouts b4 w no incidence...all my guests rave about ribs...a bit underwhelming this time
This restaurant is by far one of the best BBQ spots in Long Island. Their food taste great, is well seasoned and their BBQ sauces are very unique. The size of the appetizers and combos and or platters are super big. Christopher our waitor was a very attentive server and made my husbands experience and I wonderful for our date night. The ambiance of the place is very southern beginning with the pieces of artwork and the music played. I recommend this place to anyone looking for a BBQ spot.
The vegan menu is a little pricey, but given the portion sizes you get your moneys worth (you can probably share one plate of nachos with someone and still have it feel like an entire meal). The waitress was very helpful and knowledgeable about the vegan menu, and once we were seated service was fast and efficient. Vegan BBQ is hard to come by, so I was really happy with this meal!
Ordered a double platter of pulled pork and pulled chicken. Decent amount of meat but both were soaked and swimming in too much sweet sauce. Unable to know if the meat was smoked or not. There was so much sauce it ruined the meal for me. Slaw was ok, beans were beans. Corn bread was nothing to write home about. Pricey.
Very sorry, this restaurant has a nice setting , the portions are huge and my waitress was great, the food honestly was a let down, the nachos they gave me were just stale .. then my daughter got chilli with chips and her chips were fine , $20 app wasted the brisket is drowned in bbq tangy sauce the mac n cheese plain , mash potatoes not peeled, buffalo wings are just chicken wings on a grill no season, will not return here.. but everyone has different taste, this was just my opinion.
In a quest for the best BBQ on Long Island this has landed at the very bottom. Reheated sliced rubber brisket, more bbq sauce than anything in the chopped and hands down the worst macaroni and cheese I’ve ever had. I usually say nothing at all if all I have is nothing good but it has to be said. Mashed potato is only thing I finished. Incredibly over priced for incredibly poor quality.
Unfortunately it falls into the trap of all Yankee BBQ. They rely on BBQ sauce to make it taste like BBQ instead of having a pit master develop the flavor with the smoke. Ive been to many BBQ pit houses from N.C. down through G.A., Kansas, across to Texas. In all cases you can smell the smoke a mile away. No smoker or smoke smell even sitting in the restaurant.I ordered the sliced brisket asked for the fatty part. Got very lean and dry brisket. If you want monster beaf ribs go to Daizy Mayes in NYC, this is not it. Beans are bushes baked beans. Mac and cheese nothing special. It seams like no effort has been put into trying to make this place special. I tried this place because other reviewers compaired it to Kansas city BBQ. Ive been to Arthur Bryants, this is not it. Unfortunatly this is all your going to get on long island, no better, no worse. Best part of the place is the Louis Jordan sound track playing. Very cool jazz.
CRACK SAUCEThis is BBQ done RIGHT!!!!I keep forgetting to post this review as I’ve been here almost 6 times now in the past 2-3 months. Highly recommend the monster beef bones and the brisket (juicy ofc) and the beans and the Mac n cheese and the sausage, heck, ORDER EVERYTHING ITS DELICIOUS. Also that ocean breeze drink, literally tastes like the ocean’s breeze, in a cup. SOOOOOOOOOO REFRESHING!!!!!
I decided to try this place because my friend claimed it was the best barbecue place he’s ever been to, I disagree. I ordered the slice brisket platter and it comes with cornbread and your choice of two sides, I ordered mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. The cornbread and the mashed potatoes were good! The mashed potatoes were super garlicky and I loved it. But my mac and cheese was cold. And the brisket had no meat flavor the sauce was too overpowering and even the sauce was mediocre. The service was okay, our server was a little cold but by no means rude. (I did come at 4pm on a Friday though so perhaps I just chose a bad time to come)
As far as bbq goes on Long Island. This place is very good. Listen it’s New York we aren’t know for bbq.Pulled pork Sandwich is my favorite. The bbq sauces on the table are delicious and there are 4 different kinds to choose from. The spicy sauce is my favorite. The beef rib is insanely huge! It’s very good too big for my taste.Pork ribs were very good as well.Everything is big portions. Expect to take another meal home with you*Update. Pro tip call ahead and ask for lunch specials. They don’t have it on the menu but great dealOrdered a entree (choice of meat) with 2 sidesPicked one pulled pork. And one pulled chicken. With Mac and cheese and baked beans. Second was with Mac and cheese and sweet Potato fries.Insanely huge portions. Paid $28 with tax. WowPulled pork was very good and pull chicken was the same. Very sweet.Mac and cheese was amazing best Mac and cheese I have purchased.Baked beans came with bits on bacon and was also very sweet. One thing I wish I ordered was the coleslaw to break apart the sweetness.Very delicious takeout.
Smokin Als was absolutely fantastic. There is a great deal going on now, the 22.22.You get two meals for 22.22!!Cant be beat! And delicious ribs.Baked beans, garlic mashed potatoes and cole slaw. The waitresses and server and bus girl are really very friendly too.Its a shame they dont have moderately priced beers (8.95 and 9.95 is kinda expensive ), or pitchers. We certainly would have hung out more and had a couple of more beers.Other than that, we are looking forward to going back soon. Its a limited time offer for the 22.22.
I came to Smokin Als because my wife recommended since she has been here before. This place is very good. The food was great and you get alot of food. Be prepared to bring your appetite because the portions are very big. The appetizers can be a meal. My wife and I filled up on appetizers so we were pretty much full when the meals came out. If you love BBQ you will love this place. The staff was very nice and the place itself is nice. COVID rules in effect and they will only sit four to a table. If you come in with a big party they will split you up. If you got table to table to talk to your party wear you are required to wear your mask. Place is a little pricey but you are getting alot of food so for me it was worth it. I would definitely go back.
Weve been to Smokin Als many times over the years and have always enjoyed exceptional food, that is until tonight. The sides were great and plentiful especially the haystack onions but the main event, the brisket, was seriously lacking. In fact it was the worst weve ever had! Dry and over smoked. Seemed like it was yesterdays leftovers warmed up in a microwave. Just bad. Cant figure out why because all other experiences have been great. Were not done, well definitely give them another chance but a repeat of tonights meal and well be done.
Smokin Al’s sure knows how to make the BEST BBQ! Hadn’t been here since Pre Covid and they haven’t missed a step. Authentic atmosphere, amazing service, greats drinks and so much food you’re leaving with it for days! Put Smokin Al’s on you’re list, it’s well worth it.
Not sure why this place is rated so high. I will say the service was very good, the restaurant is very clean and the portions are large but as far as the food I was disappointed. Smoked meats were very tough which I found odd being they pride themselves on smoked meats. For less money and better food try Dang BBQ just a few blocks away.
I have been going here for years and always like the food. At the beginning of Pandemic I had the best Beef Ribs and BBQ chicken ever, but the last 2 time I have eaten here the Beef Ribs are extremely chewy, and very little meet on them. The wings have been under cooked, the cornbread is still good. I was really hoping they would be consistently good and my to go BBQ place. I dont think I will be going here anymore.
I love barbecue. I LOVE barbecue. And I REALLY wanted to love this place, given all the great reviews. But I just dont know what happened. I probably should have had an idea of what I was in for when I walked in and a server was holding hands with one of the line cooks. Unfortunately it seems that relationship between front and back of house does not involve making sure the food going out is up to snuff.Visited 1/18/22. I got the baby back ribs and sliced brisket, with sides of beans and mac and cheese. As someone thats worked in restaurants (FOH and BOH) for years, I think the food expo (The person who checks your order is correct and up to quality standards before it goes out to your table) was out to lunch or just straight up not there, because I took one look at the brisket and thought Oh boy, this looks cold and dry. And whaddya know, it was cold, tough, and bone dry.At least I had the ribs right? You cant mess up ribs, I mean, Chilis can make fall off the bone ribs. Surely this fine BBQ establishment with HUNDREDS of positive reviews can make good ribs. But alas, I was disappointed again. The ribs were cold, and vigorously-tear-off-the-bone rather than fall-off-the-bone. Sauce was good though. The mac and cheese was super disappointing, and was just macaroni tossed in some Sysco cheese sauce. Thankfully, by the grace of god himself, the beans were fine.Im going to wager a guess that, given it was a Monday and the place wasnt too busy, I was given some brisket and ribs that have been sitting under a heat lamp for a couple hours. And, given that its a Monday and there are less staff than usual, there is no food expo, and the kitchen is sending out food directly to servers who probably dont care enough to actually QA food going out.Paying $36 + Tax for cold, dry meats and mediocre sides honestly feels like robbery, and just isnt acceptable. And I think the fact that none of the negative reviews have any responses from management is telling. Nobody seems to care. Shame. If you want recommendations, the best barbecue Ive had on Long Island is at Old Fields in Huntington, and Ive had good experiences at Bobbique in Patchogue as well as Tennessee Jeds in Lindenhurst.Ill give em a star because my server was nice and my beer was cold. Otherwise, you couldnt pay me to come back here.
So I’m giving two stars only cause the food was Amazing. For the service everyone except for Chris was great! Chris chased my party outside cause he was upset with the tip I left! I left him less then double the tax only cause he was asked to get dipping sauces for my table and forgot all about us! Then took over 20 mins to refill my father in laws drink. For him to even chase after me cause he was upset about his tip was un called for! Wish he was that fast when I was asking for the dipping sauce or my refill on my drink! Smokin Al’s your food great! (Btw)
Fun vibe, fantastic assortment of food, attentive servers (but not to the point of being annoying). I thoroughly enjoyed my coconut margarita and my daughter loved her Uptown Long Island Iced Tea.The serving sizes are VERY GENEROUS ! You will have leftovers for lunch the nest day ! Dont miss their tasty desserts either !!!
I have to say food was amazing and portions are large as shown in my pictures. The nightmare was the night leading up to the great food. The issue was that the servers seemed way too overwhelmed. We had a large party of people of around 14 and was told over the phone that they do not take reservations and the wait should be only 15 mins even with such a large party on a weekday. We got there and the waitress at the podium told us that the wait was 40mins which was still okay for us. 40 mins rolled around and they were seating people other than us and made no effort in accommodating us as we saw a party of 8 get seats before us. A few members of our party had left due to hunger and the 1 hour parking limit for the nearby parking. It took over an hour and one of our members telling the waitress that people were so hungry they left, then they started pulling tables together for us. Finally we got seated and we thought food was soon to come but sadly we sat there with no service for another 30 mins. The person who organized this dinner was talking about to walking out even after we got seated at the table because we didnt even get so much as a glass of water during that time. But after the 30 mins everything went smoothly when our waitress came running up to take our orders and push everything out.Moral of the story is probably go with a smaller group such as 4 or less people if you cant wait as long as we did since the food is really good. Just our personal experience was a nightmare and frustrating.
We ordered a bunch of stuff for take out. Wish I could remember it all but a lot of different ribs (dinosaur —- YES), tid bits, mashed potatoes, fries, crispy onions (with tid bits), Cole slaw, Mac and cheese, corn bread… and we loved it all. My brother in law went a bit overboard with ordering all this for four people but it was amazing and we ate left overs for a few days and it was still delicious. The ribs were juicy and full of flavor. Would definitely order from here again… hoping to actually go there next time to dine in.
Been coming here for years. Unfortunately, last three visits for me were disappointing.Had the combo plate with chicken and St. Louis Ribs. Chicken was very good. Side dishes (corn bread, mac and cheese, corn) also very good. The ribs TASTED delicious, but for the third time in a row, you had to tug the meat away from the bone. At places, it was chewy and tough. This is an indication that the ribs are not being smoked enough.Unfortunately, Im done going out of my way to go to Smokin Als until they leave the ribs in the smoker longer. There are better bbq restaurants.
I’ve eaten at BBQ restaurants all over the east coast and I’ve must admit this place was terrible , the giant beef ribs were like chewing on rubber. I got the ribs , ribs , ribs on the menu and it was such a disappointment . Could not eat any of the beef ribs they went in garbage . The baby back ribs and St Louis ribs were tough. . When my server asked how everything was and I told her how I felt she looked at me and walked away, not even an acknowledgment. Not an I’m sorry or can I get you something else . This place came highly recommended but obviously some people do not know true authentic BBQ . What a waste of 280dollars . Should have gone to All American and had a burger .
Took hubby here for his birthday. Hes been enjoying their food a long time, my 1st time here. Im vegetarian so why would I eat here? Let me tell you why...their new meatless menu. Dont know about you vegetarian friends but I am not a salad person and I do like the taste of beef, just not the source it comes from. Thanks to Beyond Beef, Smokin Als has made eating beefy amazing with its non boring meatless menu. My burger was ginormously DELICIOUS and tasted like it was marinated and wonderfully tasty with their seasoning. The fries are truly like being in potato heaven. Hubby had 1/2 of rack of ribs and my son had the sliced brisket. Truly impressive portions with large sides that are meals within themselves. Two thumbs up from each of my men for the love of their dinners. The Garlic mashed potatoes truly scrumptious and the Mac n cheese to die for. So glad I came here. Look forward to returning.
I was here with friends the other night. All three of us enjoyed our meals tremendously. Also, the waitress was thorough and patient and very attentive. Also, the pulled pork sandwich I had was fantastic, even despite having more barbeque sauce on it than I normally would prefer. I traditionally prefer my bbq meats to be just cooked, smoked and dry rubbed, with little to no sauce on it already, but I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this pulled pork sandwich. Also, the portions are extremely generous here. You definitely get your moneys worth. I shall return.
Smokin Als is an decent enough spot. Wings are massive and tasty, although theres no real buffalo option, just a modified spicy BBQ sauce. Salads were a bit more disappointing, especially at the price theyre charging 😣Mask usage isnt exactly consistent among their staff, either.
The food is exceptional! My hubby got the combo (bbq chicken with baby back ribs, 2 sides, plus cornbread), my daughter got the brisket platter and I ordered the pulled chicken platter. Extremely tender meat. Super sized proportions, so we have enough dinner for 2 nights! Fabulous service! Will be coming here again!! Yum! 🤤😋♥️
I know this is not a burger place, but... I love a good burger. I try various kinds everywhere I go. This was truly one of the worst, if not the worst, burgers Ive ever had in my life. Overly seasoned to the point that it almost tasted like a sausage patty. I ordered and received it cooked medium but somehow the burger was hard and had a strange texture. Not at all like a medium cooked burger should be. I only took a few bites before I gave up and filled up on fries. The staff was cordial enough and the place was clean.
This trip was take out.Great Smoked ribs , delish sweet potato fries , tender smoked brisket , garlic mashed spuds on this visit . Choice of three (3) sauces to put on ribs - original , sweet or rattlesnake style . Down-side to Als is parking . Located on a main road on a corner . Limited parking in front .Ribs were smoked , tender and juicy . The half rack was enough for two meals , the sweet potato fries were tender morsels . More reviews to come .
I expected a lot better from a place with so many good reviews and being so crowded. The burnt ends were not good. Not tender at all. The garlic mashed potatoes had an overwhelming garlic taste. The sliced brisket and ribs were both bland. Even the corn on the cob wasn’t good. Service was okay.
Great place. Great atmosphere. The staff is always pleasant. Id say service with a smile but theyre all wearing masks. Which is a good thing.Food is priced for the amount of work that goes into cooking it. Takes a while to get meat that tender. Extremely flavorful and much more than the average person can consume.I with another person ordered the nachos as an app with pulled pork on top for$20. We couldnt finish it. Had to bring the sandwich home.
This issue needs to be addressed with better customer service or diversity training. The restaurant was not busy and the bar was empty other than another couple that was served already and just watching the football game.Myself and my wife just left smokin als Massapequa NY without being served. We were the only African American ppl in the whole restaurant including the staff we saw, we were greeted by a unfriendly hostess and sat at the bar to order takeout once seated at the bar and looked at the menu (3) ppl behind the bar including the bartender ignored us for over 20 minutes, my wife was so upset she walked out, I stayed an additional (5) minutes before the bartender asked one of the young ladies to help us and she still hesitated before (both) of the servers came to ask me if we were ready to order???Please check your restaurants security cameras to verify my claims. 9/26/21 around 7:40 pm-8:15pm
Had a great time celebrating my college graduation and my God childs graduation to High School! Warm atmosphere, excellent customer service (our server was nice, efficient, and friendly)I had the BBQ wings, and the ribs...excellently prepared and insanely delicious!!
Very disappointed. I placed an order for pick up over the phone. I ordered the nachos and two pulled pork sandwiches and asked that both have coleslaw. The worker assured me that they put the slaw on the side. I come home to find just one sandwich (they only charged for one) but also no coleslaw. I wasn’t going to drive all the way back there for it. I called and told the other worker who answered the situation just so it didn’t happen to anyone else. He was also very surprised that it wasn’t with my order. This was my first time ordering from there, not sure if I’ll ever go back.
The food is amazing, the takeout is a steal but the employees are ALWAYS rude. the girl on the phone was annoyed when placing order, talking back and the guy at the bar didn’t say a word and seemed aggravated when we asked what our total was.please teach your employees basic communication skills! nobody appreciates your rude employees.
The food is great, if someone would rather have texas roadhouse ribs its like wanting Campbells soup instead home made soup. Anyway, the ribs are awesome...sometimes certain servers can be flakey and the parking does stink....but I think the food and drinks are worth it. Keep in mind if you slip a server a tip, the drinks will keep coming... just a word of advice.
Big portions how ever the food isnt really tasty. Especially the chicken its dry and has no flavor. The rib was ok but I wont be going back. Its to expensive to not be satisfying, my husband and I did not finish our food and ended up throwing most of it away. The collard greens were way too tart. If your gonna go there I will say get the ribs and the corn bread (the corn bread was actually really good). Not trying to be bringing race into it but I have to say what our experience was. if you are not white be ready for everyone, customers and staff and even the restaurants next door to look at you like you dont belong. Made us feel very uncomfortable. All we needed was a record scratch and the music to turn off and a broken plate lol thats how we felt unfortunately. Sad because you would think long islanders arent like that. I have been living here my whole life and I dont think i have ever seen this type of collective distain for the color of our skin, It was unsettling.
If you like barbecue this place was awesome. Started off with some wings both with and without sauce. The ones without sauce had such a great Smoky flavor and the ones with sauce or covered with yummy sauce. And this isnt just a simple wing you get the drum and the wing all connected all at once good stuff. The wings were so good for an appetizer I had to get the smoked chicken as a meal side of beans and coleslaw. Although that was really good as well. highly recommend this place if youre looking for a barbecue. The kids menu was a pretty good head as well between mac and cheese mozzarella sticks and cheeseburgers everyone seem to find something they want.
So I give it 5 stars for flavor but 2 stars for service and listening comprehension. my wife and I stopped here because we were in the area for my uncles wake and live in the middle of Suffolk County. We didnt see until we got home that the $22 baked potato she ordered had nothing on it but the meatless beef. No dairy free cheese. No dairy free sour cream...just $22 for a baked potato. Cool.
Not the old Smokin Al’s!Food was DISGUSTING and service was a total mess. Was rushed for no reason except to be under the 1 hour parking limit out front. If I could give it no stars I would !Bay Shore was the best at the time !Time to reassess your business bc the way it is now it really is bad !
THE WORST BURNT ENDS IVE EVER EATEN. This is the best way I can describe just how offensively bad these burnt ends are:Think of your dad burning a steak on the grill, with all the chewy, gummy texture that entails. Nobody eats it, and the next day you have nothing to eat so you find the leftovers in the fridge and throw this monstrosity in the microwave. You barely choke down the gross chunks and are glad its over and your stomach is full.AVOID.
I sent my friends to this place with my warmest recommendations. I visit this restaurant often. This recommendation is always successful. The the food there is fantastic and the team is welcoming and cooperative. always when we visit this place we enjoy a gorgeous evening. I warmly recommend this restaurant.
I was really looking forward to The food but overall was only good… I ordered the smoke burnt ends and half a rack of baby back‘s with the beans and the collard greens… The burnt ends were very good but a little dry… The the ribs, to me had a funny taste… I don’t know if it was the wood they use or the plastic container it came in… the meat On the ribs were not as tender as I would have liked…I’m used to the best Fall off the bone smoked ribs from Memphis so I guess I’m spoiled… The beans were good actually very good and the collard greens were very good… Everything was cold when I got it back home but I won’t blame them because I live 20 minutes away… Also the corn bread was good again not the best but good… I probably will not be going back there
Went here on a weekday. There was maybe 4 or 5 other tables seated already. About 10 staff standing around without much to do. I got my ribs dry with sauce on the side. One was ok, the monster ribs were completely burnt and still had the plastic membrane on it. The 3 different sauces all tasted the same. Mashed potatoes are frozen/pre made so they couldnt make any changes. Staff was nice but not a fan of the food.
THE BEST BBQ AROUND. The monster beef ribs are great, the garlic mashed potatoes are great, the brisket is great. I have nothing bad to say about this place at all. The atmosphere is very nice. My suggestion is to get their around 4:00 4:30 on weekends before it gets packed. This is my brother in law with a full rack of the monster beef ribs.
Delicious food every single time. Meat has a satisfying smokey flavor. Sides are good on their own too.Typically great experience with the service. Occasionally had poor quality service. Nothing so bad that I couldnt enjoy my meal. Will continue to dine here for BBQ.Plenty of street parking nearby. There is also a parking lot. Finding it can be a little tricky the first time. Entrances are on Merrick Rd W/B and Cartwright Blvd S/B.
We wanted ribs and boy did this place provide a decent portion of them. We had pomegranate margarita, rib & meat combos which came with 2 sides and a piece of cornbread. We chose baby back ribs, St. Louis style ribs and smoked sausage. We also had french fries, coleslaw, baked beans and corn bread. All was really good and we took half of our food home because the portions were large. Definitely will go back.
Food was good waitress Victoria was great. Manager Jim is rude. Wanted to charge $2.50 per plate for us to cut our own Birthday cake at the table for a party of 10. That would have been $25.00 for our table. The last time we were there they charged $1.00 per plate. I would not return to this restaurant again
Solid joint. A little pricey but they dont skimp on the portions. Older mature crowd for staff at the bar which I found quite welcoming. Friendly and professional. Could make their wings a little spicier and their mac n cheese a little cheesier. But id give it a solid 8.1
This place is always fantastic. Been going for years. Portions are huge and the food is delicious. Very reasonably priced for what you get. The chicken wings, which I get with Rattlesnake sauce are to die for. Burgers are fresh and cooked to perfection. If, however, you are not a fan of meat, there isnt much of anything to choose from. No fish and I think only one salad available with grilled shrimp.
Went for Ribtober, $9.99 for half a rack of baby back ribs (or substitute pulled pork, brisket, or chicken) two sides (lots of choices) and corn bread! Monday-Friday until 7pm (dont need to be seated by then, just check in with hostess). The ribs are really excellent (especially for this price; usually$19.99!). Not the most meaty Ive had, but delicious flavor... No need for additional sauce. As for sides, I really like the baked beans (with hunks of bacon), sweet and flavorful. Also got the collard greens, which goes great as the acidity cuts the sweetness of the ribs/beans. If you prefer, the Mac n Cheese is a great choice as well. Ate the cornbread as dessert; just right sweetness, very moist, and hot the spot!Head over soon as special ends next Friday, 11/2. Enjoy!Place is always jammed so prepare for a wait, especially on weekends.
In the past Ive had the ribs which are absolutely delicious. Recently I had the nachos, fried pickles, burnt endz, corn bread, mac and cheese, and french onion soup. The only thing I have to say wasnt good were the burnt endz. They were very tough and chewy. The nachos can be a dinner for 2 days. The fried pickles come cut long ways which Ive never had before but were delicious. The corn bread is the best Ive ever tasted. The mac and cheese and french onion soup arent anything crazy special but they were still good. Our waitress also didnt ask once how the food was but she did refill our drinks everytime they were empty so I cant complain too muchabout the service.
Smokin Als once again has not disappointed me. Because of the unusual environment we are now living with a decision to not make the beef ribs at this time was understandable. So my backup was the go to always delicious brisket slices with Als original bbq sauce with slaw and collard greens. Really great flavor and it was perfect as far as I am concern. Our server Trish was spot on with the way she handled the ordering and checking of the table often but not intrusive.Ill be back again.
Nice atmosphere and good service. The smoked meats were juicy, but they were actually over smoked. Too much of a good thing, so to say. Low and slow for sure but way too much Smokey flavor, especially on the beef and chicken. I felt like I was eating something that had been rescued from a burnt out building. Still and all I have to say that this its only one of the only two places on long island that can smoke meats and they arrive on your plate juicy and not a piece of leather.
Adorable decor. Love the feel and aesthetic of this place. Customer Service really good. Brisket was good but I like my brisket with a natural flavor and traditional au jus as opposed to sugary, sticky BBQ sauces. Garlic mashed good but I sensed overkill on butter and salt. Pulled pork delicious. Collard Greens to salty and the corn on the cob, well, slightly soggy. White Sangria didnt taste like wine at all but rather a cocktail. Overall just a little better then Ok. I will try again and order different items to give it another chance.

2022-06-05Been going to Smokin Als for a long time since they had their location in Bay Shore. When that one shut down, Ive still been coming here. Food is still as good as ever. Portions are HUGE so expect a to-go bag unless youre really hungry. Ribs, pulled pork and mac & cheese are my personal favorites (as shown in pictures). Our service is always good every time we go. 5/5 recommend!

2022-04-24It was overall a great place, I’ve been once before and got the smoked chicken which is what I recommend, this is first time trying their grilled chicken I didn’t too care for it since it was pretty bland and I had to add a lot of black pepper and salt when it came to the table. However, the drinks were great and so were the ribs I definitely recommend going here the atmosphere and service is great.

2022-02-20Great food! They had just 2 servers and a host running the floor so service was a little slow, but they did GREAT. The food was just amazing... I only wish they had a main entree level size of the pork belly burnt ends. Those things are a carnivores food dream!

2022-04-10Ive been here so many times and it has never disappointed. Their portions are huge and everything Ive had on the menu has been delicious. Today I got a brisket sandwich with slaw and fries and I was very happy.Staff is super nice and there is a Pokemon go gym in the restaurant if youre into that.

2022-05-21I was expecting so much more based on reviews and personal recommendations but was disappointed with portion sizes and tastes of a few items. The brisket was brisket was good, smaller portion based on price. Garlic mashed potatoes were AMAZING. Collard greens were slightly vinegary but edible and the corn bread was good. Being from the south we take BBQ a little more seriously than people do here but its decent food.

2022-03-21What an amazing place! The food is so delicious and the portions are tremendous, you will definitely have food for the next day. The environment and service was great too. When it comes to BBQ, I would not go anywhere else for sure!

2021-10-20Enjoyed a wonderfully delicious anniversary lunch with my husband on 10/14. We loved the ribs, chicken and variety of sauces. The receiving and wait staff were wonderfully attentive and even helped us celebrate with Cake Shots! Danielle was a great server and we hope to have her on our next visit.

2021-11-10Great casual dining serving delicious BBQ ribs, with choice of wet or dry style and a 3 sauces (Rattlesnake (spicy), sweet & regular). Served with choice of 2 sides. Opt for Baby back, St. Louis or Beef Ribs or a combo of 2 or 3. Large portions and plenty for leftovers. Go hungry!!
