I am great fan of Paella dishand the ambiance of Iberia which is Spain.Socarrat in Nolita has authentic dishes and it feels very cozy. Even more cool you can practice Spanish Language...to get an full culturally immersive experience right in the heart of New York City!As a New Yorker i recommend to anyone to visit this restaurant.
I dined here once and I would never go back. The croquettes were served to use frozen and we could not enjoy them. We also had a cheese board with 5 cheeses and all of them were bad. The blue cheese was extremely bitter and a little sour and the other cheeses had no flavor. The cheese board also mentions that it comes with paired accompaniments which it did not. We wanted to try a paella but when we saw how it looked at the table next to us we passed, no way we’re going to pay $80 on brunt rice. Lastly, we gave the pan con tomato a chance but we were once again disappointed. The bread was soggy and there was almost no tomato on it. Overall extremely slow service and suboptimal food, don’t waste your time here.
Made a reservation to celebrate a friends birthday. Walked by the restaurant early and it was empty. Went over to REI to find something which is around the corner. Spent about 20 mins there and returned to find the place still empty. Checked in early, 30 mins, and they asked of we had a reservation. I kind of thought ot was funny, but didnt realize that later that night the empty restaurant would be capacity full since there was only 35% due to Covid19. Now it may have seemed robotic at 1st until Amaya, our waitress, took over. Her passion for making customers feel good and part of the experience started as soon as she came by our table. She was bright and cheery and full of suggestions to help enjoy out night. We started out with my favorite, Gambas al ajillo, and we ordered these delicious balls of potatoes filled with meat. Both were really good, and when you use the hard dough bread to dip into the hot garlicky full of flavor olive oil. The oil is so tasty, we asked for more dipping bread! We also decided to order a red wine, and my friend a sangria that tasted like a piña colada. We were not going to overeat like we usually do, so we ordered the Chorizo.. Chorizo, pincho de Pollo and the Coles de bruselas ( crispy Brussels sprouts). The Brussels sprouts were really delicious. Since it was my friends birthday, Amaya surprised us by signing Happy Birthday to my friend with 2 flutes of cava. Now here is where my friend was truly impressed. The Tarta de Santiago, the traditional Spanish Almond cake IS TO DIE FOR! What a fantastic cake she served for a birthday cake. My friend said it was the best tasting item they ever had. It was extremely delicious. Socarrat knows how to take care of their customers with extra zest. Amaya truly made our night. She is amazing for Socarrat.
I am so disappointed! I was trying to eat at the Resturant yesterday, it ain’t my first time there because I love the food, but the way the manager in the white dress and sandals (i think her name is Mila or somethinglike that) was handling her self was rude and seemed controlling like unwelcoming. She made me very uncomfortable. I really don’t wanna go back while she’s still there. However, i have no complaints from the other staff, they all super friendly and have the best customer service from the hostess, the bartender all the way to the servers.
A complete disappointment. I wanted to treatcmy friend for a quick brunch and they basically ruined that. The service took forever and all we ordered was eggs Benedict and 2 steak and eggs. It took them 35vmins to prepare them. And they brought us strips of rubbery tasteless thon skirt steak. One friend ordered her steak well done well it was pink on the inside. I ordered scrambled eggs and got greasy fried eggs. The potatoes were obviously microwaved and hard, dry and tasteless. Looked like rocks. The eggs Benedict was way undercooked with raw egg white ( dangerous). When I asked the waiter what is taking so long and we have time constraints he told us this is not a fast food place. Yup he said that. They may be popular on here for their tapas but brunch please stay away. First time and last time. Btw one of my friends got really sick right after eating the food.
We got gypped here big time. We ordered 2 paellas for the entire group. The server asked us 2 per person? Then she said its minimum 2. We reiterated twice that we do want two, but 2 for the ENTIRE group to share. They brought out 2 giant paellas, so of course we thought those are the ones we ordered. We were happy with the taste and very impressed with the size of the food. Each paella is $28, so we estimated wed be paying $60 in total plus tip. When the bill came, we thought there had to be a mistake. Nearly $300! We were shocked. Turns out each plate had 4 servings of paella, not 1. Not to mention, they kept pushing us to buy appetizers and alcohol. Before the food came, they told us itll take 35 minutes. We agreed. After 35 minutes passed, we were told, You know this will take 40 minutes? Are you sure you dont want to order appetizers or alcohol? The only good thing was the taste of the food, which we all loved. Be careful if you go here. Ask what the price will come out to when you order.Update: I emailed them 5 days ago but they never replied 😞
The octopus and the white sangria I definitely give it a 5 stars. But the “Paella” which is why we came to this place was “not” good at all. Lack of flavor, it had shrimps instead of langostinos. For all of you who knows about Paella 🥘 I’ll leave the presentation below and let you be the judge of the presentation. The restaurant is small but Cousy; the manchego cheese was delicious, I don’t think the “jamón cerrano” was a high quality like pata negra. But definitely a 4 stars for the manchego with the jamón the sausage and bread with tomato ☺️😋.Overall, great place, you’ll have a good time but they need to improve on the paella since it has good reviews even in yelp.
The black paella is a must have. Nice crunchy rice on the bottom and seafood that is not overcooked on top. The tapas are generally pretty good although a little pricey. Iberico was not that much better than the regular jamon. Bacon wrapped dates and croquettes recommended. Of the deserts beignets have been ordered the most for us.
Delicious food and lovely atmosphere! Takes about 20-30 minutes for them to prepare the paellas. We got a few different paellas to share (pictured here). The appetizers are all single serving and you can specify the serving amount for the paellas. Overall, had a great time 🥘
So I decided to go here for restaurant week. Initially tried to make a reservation for 16 but the person taking the reservation wanted us to go thru the event planning where we were informed that we would not have the restaurant week pricing but instead a charge of $55/pp before tax and gratuity. I ended up needing to make 2 separate reservations which was fine. The day comes and we head over. The service from our waitress and the busboys were amazing. Andres on the other hand had an attitude since he realized we were the party of 16. They had a huge table available but wouldn’t sit us there because we didn’t go thru the event planner and it was reserved for another party. Ok no problem. So about the food and that service. The appetizers came out at different times. We tried the shrimp, chorizo and dates. The chorizo tasted like straight cooked sausage. Not bad at all but it’s accompanying sauce didn’t taste like anything. The dates were amazing. The shrimp I heard was great. The bread was very yummy. Then the time from the appetizers to the main course was way too long. The gap was more than 30 minutes between them. It was around this time that we noticed that they sat a couple different parties at the big table we had asked for. These parties had nothing to do with each other but sat together. Finally get 2/3 paellas(2 socorrat and one meat), looks like a rich dish of seafood and the fish ends up being bland. The scallops had no taste either and there was only a handful of pieces of octopus. The meat one came out last. Looked the most “poor” of the bunch. The meat tasted amazing. But the rice alone tasted like something didn’t belong there. For Dessert, both the churro and flan were really good. Delectable. Juliana and Pancho were amazing to us. Really sweet and genuine to us. While I don’t think they did a great job dealing with big parties, I would give this place a second chance with a more intimate party.Took a star for the roachTook a star for andres’ attitudeTook a star for timing between appetizer and main course.
Came here for dinner and we were amazed by the service and the food. Our servers name was Luis and he was excellent, very attentive and was always making sure everything was great. First time here and of course I had to have the paella. We ordered two different kinds and I must say that they were both extremely delicious!! So much flavor and a great portion as well. Very traditional Spanish Paella, was brought out in the sartén where its cooked, it was just a great experience. Great wine list, great music, really authentic and unique decor. I loved this place and I will definitely come back and dine here again!!!
Hosted my Birthday dinner at the Nolita location. Everything was perfect! They have a great unlimited drink package for 2 hours and the food selections were amazing. Mila was very easy to communicate with and responded to emails quickly. Definitely would recommend if hosting a large get together/celebration.
Came in for a super late brunch with my parents and everyone on the staff was super kind and helped us pick out a good order. Ended up getting the paella of the day and some tapas to share. The wine paired well with the meal and it was a relaxing time! Would come again.
This is a great restaurant if you have never had a Paella. We got a vegan Paella and a salad while waiting for the Paella. Note that the Paella takes about 30 minutes to get to you after ordering. The min order is for 2 and we had plenty leftover for next days lunch. 🙂 The staff is super nice and helpful. They explained each dish and my questions around them. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating available. I recommend reservations for weekend.
Spanish tapas bar with a focus on exquisite paellas, and their $39 unlimited booze brunch is great too! I loved the dulce paella, with figs, walnuts, mushrooms, and tiny sweet English peas. A great brunch version of this classic dish. The name of the place refers to that intensely flavored crunchy crust that appears on the bottom of a well made paella. Dont miss out on that!
Great atmosphere for a date night! We got the chicken croquetas, bacon-wrapped dates and patatas bravas. For the entree, we shared a carne paella. All were delicious. We also ordered a variety of cocktails that were all tasty (the Oaxaqueño was EVERYTHING). Overall, a tasty and wonderful experience. My only complaint was the flan was a little light in taste, but Im Mexican so Spanish flan may just be different than what Im used to.
Go for dinner. Defintly make reservations and like all tapas place for the best experience go with a group if possible..to taste as many dishes. Though the place is good for a romantic date as well. Order a bunch of tapas. Get some wine. Then order the socarrat paella or the squid ink sea food paella. They also occassionally have flamenco performance which are pretty good.
The cost of menu items is not appropriate for level of service and quality of food/drink items. Sangria was tart and subjectively of low alcohol content. Ceiling fans were on but it was still uncomfortably humid inside. Paella is of small portion relative to charge of meal. Octopus and chorizo appetizers were tasty. Garlic shrimp was okay at best.Servers would not come around often enough to refill water and restaurant space is small. Everyone is sitting extremely close to one another. Barstyle chairs were also uncomfortable. For a party of 3, bill totaled $325 with tip. I would not recommend this restaurant.
Love this place! Been here twice and the staff couldnt be more attentive, informative and professional. The woman, who I believe is a co-owner of the restaurant, is from Spain and made our experience absolutely lovely. We spent almost three hours here and ordered maybe 10 items of the menu including the paella and sangria - both musts. Excited to dine there again!
🌊 SOCARRAT 🥘#PAELLASchicken, beef, shrimp, white fish, squid, mussels, cockles, fava beans, red and green pepper sofrito✨ @socarratnyc I thoroughly enjoyed lunch sitting outside in the beautiful sun sipping a tall glass of red #Sangria surrounded by #beautiful people and #exotic #eats that helped me forget about the hustle and bustle I left behind in the corporate world 🌎This dish takes about 25 minutes to prepare and is worth every minute of the wait ‼️‼️ 💥 🔥#ExcellentService#MyHungryWorld#SkinnyGirlsLuvFood2
The portions of appetizers and desserts were way too small. The shrimp gambos taste and looked like the frozen bagged shrimp and the oil it was in flavorless and sizzling hot popped on me. The paella was all crust not enough rice and was overly salted on all 5 paella’s we ordered. The squid ink paella visually is hideous. The servers are nice and the drinks are good. I wouldn’t come back.
I love the food, the music and the service here.. just one small thing, eventhough we are all vaccinated, still is a pandemic and waiters shouldnt be invited everyone to get and dance together on the dance stage. Its a small space, and was too crowded.. music and dancing is lovely.. lets enjoy that for now from our tables. Thanks!!! Well definitely go back.
Happy hour was good but the lechon served isnt half off. A bit expensive but the food is delicious, the lechon didnt hit the mark. Very good flamenco music, dancers were okay, still going to come back. Best sangria in the cityThe seafood paella was amazing. Rafael the guitarist was the best
The good is delish and the wine list is great. I celebrated my mothers birthday here and everyone was just delightful. Mila gelped me in the phone with making the reservation. she was very thorough and patient and explained in detaik what our options were for the event. Andres was so courteous and replied very quickly to all.my emails with questions andimenu arrangements. Amaya was AMAZING! her warmth and hospitality were just the icing on the cake of a beautiful dining experience. Amaya and the team were always anticipating all of our needs and took such good care of us. Thank you to all the staff for making this a nightvwe will always remember.
Paella and tapas were good, but I’ve had better in Spain - I think it needed more flavor. However, the Tuesday night performance was amazing. Make sure you bring a date to share paella with - you have to order at least 2 portions which adds up to a very pricey meal! Happy hour at bar only :(
Delicious paella! I tried the squid ink paella which was amazing. Croquettes were great too, as were the churros. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff. When the paella took longer than expected, they provided us with free glasses of wine as an apology. I would definitely return.
Love the Paella ! They make it the right way . They use the traditional pan and carmelize the bottom layer of the rice. Also, the tapas were absolutely delicious. The dessert was good but not as great as the appetizers and entrees. The only issue is that the service was a bit slow, however I still liked the waitresses personality and professionalism/courtesy. Overall a great experience and I will be back very soon!
It’s a pity they removed the three course bottomless brunch item from the menu and replaced it with passable traditional brunch option. The non traditional brunch menu, especially the paella’s, croquette and the gambas, are all delicious regardless of the change. Just avoid the eggs benedict and traditional brunch menu items and stick to the Spanish dishes.
Came here with a group of four friends for a birthday dinner. The food was good and we were able to find vegetarian options for a few members of the group. The waiter was very helpful with wine recommendations and even organized brought out a cake and candle for the birthday girl. Id particularly recommend the lamb shank tapas and any of the paellas, which were both amazing.
Went her with my friends for our annual Christmas dinner. We ordered tapas. Potatoes, chorizo and octopus. All were delicious. We all shared the paella. We ordered carne with mushrooms paella, carne paella and seafood paella. We were all so full that we couldnt order dessert. Everything was delicious. Would definitely come back. I have been there before but it was my friends first time and they all enjoyed it. Definitely recommend!
I have eaten here a few times and I must say it’s hot or miss. Paella is average and service is pot luck. Great atmosphere but very loud. Last time I went which was my 8th time the hostess sat me and no one came up to our table for at least 20 minutes. Not even for water or to say hey we’ll be with you soon. Ridiculous! I’m done!
Delicious restaurant with wonderful ambience. The Paiea takes a little bit of time to cook, but it is well worth it and extremely delicious. It really is a great place to take family and friends and share some good food and good times. The prices are pretty reasonable also and there are three locations in Manhattan so you can just about meet anywhere.
Terrible/stay awayWe were 4 people having lunch. We ordered tapas, ham and drinks first. Out of curiosity, we wanted to order some black rice paella. We just wanted a portion or two to taste it. However, the waiter, without clarifying with us, ordered 4 portions of paella for us. $25/person, total $100, and despite that, it is not a huge dish, not much bigger than our neighboring table for two. What a terrible service and what a senseless waiter. When I called the manager. She didnt seem to be apologetic and compassionate. No more. Stay away.
We ordered 2 tempranillos and they brought out a bowl of almendras and a bowl of aceitunas which we did not order and thought were complementary. We did order pimientos de padron which did not come. The check charged us for the almendras y aceitunas so assume the waiter got the order wrong. Boquerones were perfect but a bit skimpy. Tortilla Española was disappointing. Tasted like it was cooked in old oil.
The restaurant is primarily known for its paella; the paella was not the best by far.The seafood were overcooked; some parts the rice were so crunchy it was inedible. The service was horrible, I first walked in to a restaurant that had approximately 4 full tables; I asked for a different seat because I did not want to be seated at a high top - the hostess told me that would not be possible as the restaurant was fully booked (even though at the time I walked in, the restaurant was mostly empty). She did offer me a table but would have to vacate in half hour, I declined and sat at the high top. As expected the restaurant did get packed but the table that I would have to vacate stood empty for the hour and a half that I was there. Many times I could not find my server, and then my server switched - pretty much any one available would come over to my table.
Amazing paella- i love socarrat! This was my first time at the nolita location and I was sad that they did not have the rose sangria (they have it in chelsea.) and I do know that paella does take a long time to make, but ours took a whole hour and we were starving. it was super good though. :)
The food EHHHH, it wasn’t anything mind blowing- the rice was dry and a bit over cooked and the meat inside the paella was over cooked too. I would recommend going somewhere else if you’re visiting the city. The service is nice. But, it was not told that the Paella is whatever the amount is listed on the menu for EACH person. For example if it’s 2 people dining a $28 paella will end up being $56 on your bill.
I’ve eaten in this restaurant mainly the Chelsea location. My bill was supposed to be 20$ turned out to be 50 which was charged to my card. As the waitress didn’t pull out the bill correctly for the right table. Then charge me again for 20$. And 50 was voided.Yes. But it’s international card and takes up to a week for the credit to come back. So now without 50$ for a week only because your waitress apparently likes to swipe credit cards.I’ve been told it happens. Well it’s never happened to me in any restaurant. I won’t be coming back to this location. And their mushrooms with cheese on top is the most lousy and overpriced dish I have ever seen.
Paella and Tapas were a solid 5 stars, but there were a lot of rough edges. Seat had a sticky spill on it, we were seated 10 min after our reservation, and the non -alcoholic drinks are all unavailable, despite being on the menu. The stellar food more than made up for it!
Had an incredible time here on a weekday evening. Food was great, wait staff friendly and superb, and we happened to catch a Flamenco night, which was particularly energizing and awesome! Loved the ambience and the proximity of the musicians and dancers. Recommend highly!
Omg my event is going to be awesome. I love this place- had to check it for my graduation dinner, and I have to say the place had a very intimate and family cozy feeling to it. I have ever to say, it felt like home and my own dining room!!! Feels so much as my home. Im so excited and I cannot wait until my dinner party.. Great Choice!!!!!!!!
Excellent sangria, tapas, and paella. The croquetas and gambas are a must among the tapas. The squid ink paella and carne are best of both worlds, land and sea (make sure you scrape up some of the charred up rice for some extra crispy bites). The desserts are very tasty as well. Cant go wrong with the flan, buñelos, or churros.
For sure the best paella in NYC.. came in for dinner on a friday night... wonderful experience.. I had the dates and calamares a la plancha as my tapas, it was amazing. We ordered the lobster paella for two, I must say it was a great expererience. It is a little pricey, but worth it!!!!
Celebrated my birthday here. Made reservations at last minute got a great table in front of the flamenco performers. We ordered octupus, shrimp al ajillo, jamón cerrano with cheese platter and beef tapas. We also ordered 2 person paella with a sangria pitcher. Everything was delicious. Had an amazing time with family. Got a apperetive wine :)
A cozy tapas and paella restaurant. On our first visit we sat at the bar and order tapas. The pulpo a la gallega was delicious. Tender and flavorful. The gambas al ajillo and the patatas bravas were both very good. We have since enjoyed the house paella, which was wonderful.
This place was extremely disappointing. There is a difference between the crust that forms from rice that is heated properly, and burnt tasting rice. The place was busy, and it was obvious they were hurrying things along, and burning them in the process. What a shame, Ive been to the one in Chelsea and its pretty good. This one though, was passing burnt rice as paella.
Came here on a Tuesday night and they had free flamenco and troubador musical performance which was a surprise. The paella is definitely what you come here for. We had some issues with service though as we ordered the squid ink paella but they came out with the seafood vallencia instead. We were never offered a correction for this as we noted it was the wrong one and if we wanted the correct one it would be another 30 min. We went with the incorrect one instead but were never offered any comps for the mistake as this entails some bad service. If not for the service i would of given 3 stars. As the paella was cooked nicely and the appetizer of jamon iberico was also quite tasty with the authentic bread rubbed with tomato. At this price point and the mistakes that took place i probably wont be back as this is NYC and there are other spanish paella shops that can fit the bill.
Is always a pleasure to find a real spanish restaurant when you live far from Spain and you really miss the food. Everything is superb, the food very tasty and fresh, you really have a culinary travel to Spain. The owner Lolo Manso, did a great job bringing the taste of the Spanish food to Manhattan. The chef Luis Garro and his team magic hands, the service very attentive and always with a great smile. Right now, visit Socarrat Nolita is a must.
We had a wonderful night at this inspired placeNever thought will be sitting with the band, watch the show front row famous LOS CINTRON ( cintron brothers) whom we were following quite some time , listening to their intense musical feast.Delicious well balanced food without common mistake of oversized but full filling portions (congratulations to chef)Surprisingly observant, well trained service staff(congratulations to house manager)Will be back soon
Though it takes 45 minutes or so to prepare their Paellas, Socarrat has some great recipes on hand, especially their namesake and Arroz Negros (Squid Ink) dishes.Portions are huge, as can be the decibel levels at this rowdy, but fun joint. A local favorite for Nolita natives.
Amazing service great food and an outdoor dining experience you can only dream ofa place I would highly recommend either with a reservation or on the flyby I just cant imagine where else to get a good plate out side next to the iconic building from Will & Grace in NoHo

2022-08-06Great amazing food. We went here for dinner and it did not disappoint. The tapas were tasty and cook perfectly. We order 3 different paella and they were all super delicious. I would definitely recommend this spot. It’s a small restaurant but they people who work there make you feel at home. Must try if your a lover of paella and authentic Spanish food from Spain.

2022-01-22The restaurant week option was a great deal because you really do get a lot of food for the price. Usually I stay away from restaurant week deals but this was definitely worth it. Be warned, the paella does take a long time - we waited about an hour for it once we sat down and ordered. Everything was great but it also took a long time to flag the waiter down for the check. It was probably due to the fact that they were busy but I’d check this place out if you’re in the area.

2022-02-04Came here on date night for their restaurant week offerings, food came quick and was absolutely amazing. everything tasted fresh, loved the croquettes and the squid ink paella bowl was huge for two, (we could barely finish it) lowkey ambiance on a quiet street that would be great for outdoor seating in summer. def recommend

2022-09-19Great paella, mediocre service, great ambiance.Food - Presentation of the food was immaculate and beautiful, flavors and overall cuisine was also amazing.Service - Was acceptable but questionable; we had multiple waiters take our orders (keep it consistent with just one waiter per table, not 3 different ones who have no idea about the other 2 taking orders), I had to request for a new water glass as the one on the table that our first waitress filled with water was covered in fingerprints and grime, and we were constantly and repeatedly pressured to order alcoholic drinks even though we said multiple times we did not want any.Ambiance - beautiful and eclectic decor make for a wonderful dining experience (if you discount the staff/service)

2022-02-15We had a wonderful Valentines Day dinner here—the eve before technically! Both the food and service were uniformly excellent and my only gripe was, why didnt I know to come here sooner. All my problem and a problem, which will be remedied by visits in the near future. Ive eaten a lot paella in my time both here and in Spain and the carne paella we had last night was absolutely delicious. The endless sangria special for Valentines didnt hurt either!

2022-05-26Love this spot! I came here with my family to celebrate my mom’s birthday. When I came in, I asked our waitress privately if they do anything for birthdays, and she so was so kind, helpful and efficient in helping me pick out a dessert before my mom came in. She also asked if I’d like them to sing for my mom. I wasn’t sure, but the waitress said my mom might like that to feel special, and that already told me how much they cared. The food, service and atmosphere are amazing. My mom is picky about her paella, and the paella as well as every other dish astounded us. But to top everything off, the staff brought over a generous size dessert with a candle and beautifully sang for my mom - and really put their heart into it! My mom was so surprised and even cried because of how blown away she was.I apologize I don’t remember the name of our waitress that day, but I want to say thank you so much to her and the staff that day for amazing service, food, and facilitating an incredible birthday celebration for my mom. We are so grateful for you and the sweet memory you made for us!

2022-07-23Loved this place. Came for the restaurant week menu and they did not disappoint. The paella was delicious and dessert as well.

2021-10-24Great ambiance and great service, but I thought that the way they served paella could have been better. We were a table of three so had three servings of paella, which meant the ratio of crispy rice to soft rice was higher than when the pan is full. Great tapas though.

2021-12-02Services were very good, but the paella seafoods were suck, not fresh, from cheap frozen one, $20something for a serving, FEW RICE, SMALL CHEAP CHEWY SEAFOOD, ISNOT WORTH THE PRICE!!! Desserts I like it.

2022-06-21The paella is very delicious, friendly staff, also fancy vibes. Highly recommended!
