Soho Grand Hotel in New York
Nothing can match that feeling of intense relief you feel upon entering a spick-and-span hotel room—and Sono Grand Hotel is no exception. I stayed here for only a night, but the experience remains unforgettable. Great location, chic interiors, and friendly staff; I could not have asked for more!
$1000 a night I would expect it to have bigger and nicer room, its an ok place to stay, rooms are basic and totally not worth the money.Second night here just got worse, we decided to go to the 2nd floor club, it was extremely mismanaged couldn’t even get a drink, reservations didn’t even make a difference, restrooms were terrible, looks like no one ever checks to manage the cleanliness of the hotel.Today is the 11th of June 2022 staying until Friday the 17th let’s see if you can make up for you terrible service.
Pros: great location, posh cafe on second floor, 24 hour diner on first floor.Cons: extremely small rooms, horribly uncomfortable bed and pillows, no views from rooms unless you pay for most expensive room option, very loud creaky noises from bathroom, finicky shower (not user friendly and took forever for water to get hot), light switches also randomly annoying to use.
Soho Grand was a wonderful weekend staycation hotel for me and my partner. From the moment we checked in, every staff member was lovely. The complimentary Prosecco really set the tone for our little getaway trip, along with the dramatic interior decor and lush color palettes in the bar and lounge. We made reservations for The Club Room in the evening which was the only slight disappointment, since we were ushered into a small corner and couldn’t actually watch the band perform. Apart from that, everything else was perfect and I’d definitely stay here again anytime I needed to escape from the world for a little bit. People complaining about the clientele have to remember that you’re in NYC and you’re going to encounter a wide swath of personalities (business folks, tourists, soccer mom gangs from middle America, etc). It’s not the hotel’s fault if certain crowds annoy you, and if anything I found the patience of each employee to be unimaginably generous. As for noise, being on a higher floor certainly helps, but you’re in a huge metropolitan city so you’ll inevitably hear some of it. It’s New York, not Hawaii so just understand what you’re signing up for
Service really let this property down. Is anyone else tired of hearing the Covid excuse? I get it, the world is weary and tired from the pandemic...me too...however I still have to cough up full price while service standards continue to fall whilst swallowing the we are stretched due to Covid. The owner of the property loves this, maximum price, maximum profit...below minimum value for guests. Dont expect room service before 8am (wont do it, you guessed it Covid)...dont expect a rooftop bar (was told by reception this doesnt exist so whats the image on the website?), dont expect more than 1 umbrella per room...but if you do - expect attitude from front reception on having to dig one up (thats if they dont make you run between ground and level 1 searching for it yourself)...expect the grimest Bartender ever..his attitude turned us off our drinks (please mate, enjoy life a little more...you might just earn yourself a tip next time). Mini bar might get replenished every other day if youre lucky (missed out on easy revenue there). There were some positives though, the housekeeping staff were lovely, warm and really doing a great job...although if you send your laundry for cleaning expect to take out an overdraft...sent mens underwear, socks and 4 shirts to be laundered choosing next day over same day (it was 3pm when I called for it to be picked up)...arrived 1pm next day and $300 later...reception kindly knocked off 50% when I questioned them...their response was yes, thats ridiculous, we will charge only half...well thank you very much! There are so many wonderful properties in NYC...this really isnt one of them.
I stayed for 7 nights, the location is great, hotel is clean and fun(busy) but the staff was rude (especially at the bar). I was sick for 3 of the 7 days, I ordered food (from outside), the consierge didnt bring it up and didnt even call me to say its here. Also, my brother ordered soup for me, asked the hotel to send it up, again, they simply kept it at the consierge. Last but not least they charged me $420 extra in the bill and have not responded to my emails about it.
The Soho Grand was the perfect place to unwind and relax after long days of NYC attractions. In addition to its convenient location, upon our arrival, we were greeted by an extremely attentive, professional and friendly staff. Our room was well appointed, tastefully decorated and very comfortable. If entertainment is on your wish list, you will not be disappointed with the options inside or nearby. We look forward to returning to the Soho Grand and once again enjoying its many amenities.
Visited Nov 2021 - I loved my little room (but deluxe king) at the soho grand. Great place to walk around Soho for shopping and eating. Relatively affordable considering NY prices! Try not to drink anything in the bar - i think they charged 5$ for just normal bottled water. But sheets were really clean and not damp and water flow was good.
Perfect place for the bachelorette party of a Karen from like Wisconsin on her 3rd marriage, where the bachelorette party is just her and her sister drinking below average white wine and being charged $140 a bottle whilst they cackle and talk about how fancy this place is. Avoid
Outstanding service at a super pet-friendly hotel. Everyone working here was super kind and welcoming. We initially had a room next to elevators (which did not agree with my dog as he barked every time the elevator door opened), and after speaking with the front desk they immediately moved us to a tucked away room. Speaking of which, the rooms are spacious and clean. The bed is fantastic, and they offer both firm and softer pillows (important!). The best part is if you bring a dog they have a personal dog park around the corner. Can’t wait to stay here again.
Come for the bar, but don’t get a room. The only thing you are paying for is the location, but there are better options near by. Every step of the way from booking a room to checking out has been painful. No one cares. Writing this review will watching other hotel guest clearly just upset for completely different reasons.
Positive: Location is great. Room was pretty nice. Negative: I was expecting much more from a 4+ star hotel. No valet parking; I had to self park across the street and walk up the garage ramp with my luggage (and then back in the rain). Comically inattentive staff at the hotel bar. It was like a comic sketch.
My girlfriend, puppy and I stayed here for a few days last month and the entire experience was incredible:1) Top Notch Rooms and Service2)Incredibly fun vibe w several awesome entertainment areas in the hote to socialize including casual lounges (with music at night and fun vibes), elegant bars, a private club room on Thurs, Fri and Sat nights that’s become one of the best scenes / crowds in NYC and hosts great djs, and 3 restaurants (one outdoor area with a fun bar, one diner open 24/7 and a great menu of lunch and dinner offerings in the lounge)3) Ideal location in the heart of Soho4) Very pet friendly and even offer guests access to a private dog park nearby that has a 2 year waitlist5) A+ Staff, especially food, beverage and entertainment managersI’ve stayed in dozens of NYC hotels over the years and always recommend Soho Grand to anyone considering visiting NYC. Can’t beat the combination of excellence and factors listed above
Positive: Nothing Negative: It was dark, so dark that it appeared to be dingy, although it was very clean. The lobby is so dark, I thought it was the Addams Familys house. The room was very small, especially for the price. Our room faced W. Broadway. Car horns blew all night.
I have stayed at this hotel several times. One thing I always liked about it was they had little coffee stations on every floor where you could retrieve your own coffee in the morning. It was so nice and easy, and free coffee. They have removed that amenity, and now you can order room service. But it doesnt start until 8am.How can a nice hotel not offer coffee before 8am?Additionally, they have a program where you have to show your vaccination card to get a gym pass. Fair enough. But you have to come to the front desk to get a new gym pass every single day. So we have to stand in line behind multiple people checking in to get the gym pass every single day.Its very difficult (and infuriating) to source a cup of coffee in the morning. And the gym is a total hassle. Will not stay here again. Do not recommend.
Soho Grand allowed me to change my reservation action once. When I attempted to change the reservation again because of the snowstorm, they waited 24 hours until the day of the reservation to tell me that they would not change, I have been a customer for over 10 years but received no courtesy.
Went there for the weekend to celebrate my 10 year anniversary with wife. Service was awesome. The room was beautiful. The building was designed like something out of the movie John Wick. It had this whole Stanley Kubrick vibe. Awesome place and restaurants on the side. 24 hour diner. Great location. The staff was berry cool. Making this a permanent spot for my wife and I. Highly recommend it. Prices are affordable.
I recently stayed at the Soho Grand for a night with my significant other for an anniversary staycation (Im a NYC resident). To summarize, Soho Grand is a chic hotel with trendy and clean rooms although not quite worth the $300/night price point. Especially incl. the added $40 Amenity fee which provided us with nothing.Pros:The location is really great - the West Village and central Soho are a quick 10 minute walk away. Also, the Soho Diner, located on the first floor, has a really great and reasonable priced breakfast selection.Cons:The biggest issue with our stay was our rooms temperature, which did not get below 74 degrees despite the AC running at 68 all night. The hot temps made it a bit difficult to sleep.Despite paying the $40 Amenity Fee, we were not offered any of its perks as listed on the website (no PPE, water bottles, coffee). Given that it was our anniversary, the Champagne Upon Arrival that we paid for via the fee wouldve been nice to have.Check-in took an abnormally long time with ~10-15 minutes of me waiting with my bags behind a line. The front desk seemed understaffed and congested.Additionally, I attempted to call the front desk and room service numerous times at around 10am - no one picked up the phone.
Grand lobby, and amazing staff! In the age of covid its nice to know hotels like the Soho Grand havent gotten rid of their signature amenities like the vast majority of other supposed luxury hotels in Manhattan :) Sekou, Dawaun, and Marcus at the front desk went above and beyond to make my stay a perfect one! Photos are the Grand Corner King
I loved everything about this hotel! As soon as I arrived I was immediately greeted by Kevin and Marcus. They were extremely kind and made sure I knew information about all the hotel had to offer and made sure my stay was comfortable. I will definitely be returning here
I give it a 3 out of 5, not bad but left a bit to be desired for the price. The location is convenient, the decor is chic. Room was clean, comfy bed, bluetooth speaker radio in the room, personable valet. I stayed in room 534. The room smelled like poop from the moment I walked in, I suppose a previous guest really blew up the bathroom, but the stench lingered for the duration of my 3 day stay. Regarding the interior design, I was a little disappointed by the large TV obscuring 1 window, hindering my view of the south. If its going to obscure a window, I wish it was the one that faces the Soho Mews so nobody there can look in at you, while leaving a remarkable view of Tribeca and the World Trade Center in full view. I didnt even turn the TV on once, so I think I finally understand why all those rockstars threw the TVs out their hotel windows. Overall, an ok base of operations for a trip to Manhattan.
I just had my first-ever stay at this property and really enjoyed the experience. The property is beautiful with a great lounge and restaurant that is buzzing every night of the week. The guest room is comfortable and well appointed with features like allowing guests to cast media from their personal devices. The bed was a little too firm for my taste, but I adjusted to it quickly. I found the staff very friendly and helpful. The property is in a great location with convenient access to MTA options and very walkable for shopping and entertainment.
The Soho Grand provided a lovely weekend escape for me, my elderly mother and my two dogs. We all felt safe and well cared for by the professional, knowledgeable and caring staff in particular Mark at the front desk. The hotel has every precaution in place to protect health and wellness. It is quiet and low key. We never had to share the elevator. Our room was meticulously cleaned, bright and comfortable. We dined at Soho Diner and at nearby cafes, sitting outside. Sam at the Soho Diner is excellent. Highly recommend a few days away at the Soho Grand if you are looking for an escape from the world and want to feel both safe and taken care of.
I had an overall excellent stay. If you want to be treated like royalty when you arrive at a hotel, The Soho Grand is the place. From taking your luggage out of the taxi, to opening doors and a friendly smile, there is no better way to start your stay. I arrived at 9am to a clean upgraded room (I phoned in advance so they knew I was coming early). I had a great experience checking in and my bags were promptly brought up to the room. I wasn’t super impressed with the upgrade though so it did make me wonder the size of the standard room. However, the rooms are very comfortable. The pillows are heavenly. The “mini bar” is stocked with anything you could dream of needing down to a universal adapter. In comparison with the rest of the hotel, the staff at the restaurant are slow and unfriendly. I stayed here once before 3 years ago and I remember the food being much tastier and better quality. The hotel is very conveniently located, near bars and restaurants in the heart of trendy Soho.
Tldr; - horrendous service, hot water ran out daily while showering, maid service only available upon request, hotel bar/lounge constantly booked out, barking dogs that wouldnt get removed, keys stopped working halfway during stayWhile any one of the issues I experienced during my stay would have made the overall stay a bit sour, the multiple hiccups paired with a complete lack of service or desire to rectify any of them will have me searching elsewhere on any future NYC stays.First off, we also lost hot water 4 times while showering between two of us, again over only 4 days and maybe 8 total showers. Not fun when its close to freezing outside in the middle of winter. While the room was clean upon arrival, we didnt end up having any maid service as it needed to be requested and every time we tried calling the front desk, they never picked up - so no cleaned room during our 4 night stay.Third strike was the fact that halfway through our stay our key stopped working and we had to go down to reception every time we got back to the hotel in order to get let in.On top of all that, we had to deal with a barking dog in the room across the hall that wouldnt stop barking for over 2 hours, even after we called down to reception about an hour in.We never were able to utilize the wonderful hotel bar, for every time we tried to sit down there we were told it was booked out with previous reservations, and the Diner attached to the hotel, which was the only space that had any availability was a extremely sub-par on the service level. While one of our servers was a gem, our second server was completely rude when we asked to place an order because we were trying to get to the airport. The front desk did offer to move us to the same room on a different floor, but other than that was completely unapologetic of the multiple issues we had during our stay. We were in town for a friends memorial service so was out of the hotel most of our trip, but all we wished was to come back to our room for some rest, but every time we returned another new issue popped up.Look elsewhere, you will be happy you did
One of my favorite hotel bar and lobbies in the city. Have a few drinks and food, sitting at the bar or one of the many couches. This venue is beautiful and so are the people occupying it. After 9 PM on the weekends there is usually a DJ to accompany the area, which places some funk and other forms of dance music. There is, also, a club on the second floor that you can check out, but getting in can be difficult.
A lot of little things that added up. We booked a promo that included late check out, but were not informed that the valet would charge a whole additional day charge for anything over 24 hrs. We ended up paying $75 extra for 30 min of extra parking time. Should have been informed, since they knew we were valeting. Room keys did not work upon check in. Room service just unlocked our door and started walking in and it was the wrong room( we didn’t order anything). Breakfast order was incorrect. And upon check out we were charged for breakfast (which was included in our promo) , thank goodness I read the receipt. We were also not informed on how the elevator worked ( apparently you have to scan your key in order for it to go beyond the third floor). Not sure we will be staying here again. Shame cause it’s a beautiful hotel . Contacted them regarding issues, and never heard back.
The room was awesome and the service was exceptional. It is in a convenient part of NY where you can find both affordable aces to eat and more expensive places depending on what you want. I loved the atmosphere so I would recommend. The pricing for the room, considering how nice it was, is very affordable. Highly recommend!!!!! Oh yea and the room has 65 inch smart TV if you want to stay in.
Solid hotel. The rooms are a decent size with a hipster look. A bit dim when you come into the hotel. The fitness room was great. Shower has okay pressure. Room feels clean. Not much of a view but the surrounding area is great. Near canal street and the vendors or subway. Worth the price.
The hotel is very nice on many levels... we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived in the lobby and saw the room... (apart from the bedroom carpet which is very grubby), but some of the basic things they just didnt get right.... Breakfast they had clubbing tunes on from the night before... actually quite tormenting during breakfast having just woken up! The heating system in the room was all over the place and either boiling hot or freezing cold...Also room service dont bother! $18 for a burnt grilled cheese sandwich and cold fries... a few basic things that let the place down... The setup in the lobby is stunning and lovely for breakfast and meetings. The staff are also friendly and polite.
Love this hotel. Stay there all the time. Staff at the door is great. Bit hit and miss in the lounge on responsiveness and attitude. Room are comfy and great. Still good room interior design while not changed for over 10 years which is the only down side ( amend 2020: rooms have now been upgrade guys!😄)
4 star is what they really deserve! This hotel is like SoHo district: mesmerizing architecture and style, but a lil dirty. Very smart design: all lights inside are dimmed, so you will not discover dirty floors and showers and other elements. So 4 stars for being smart))) please check pictures, you will understand what I’m talking about. Price was also good for Manhattan.
The best view of this great city This great house in an absolute prime location in New York was a very good choice. The ambience, the well kept rooms, the friendly staff, everything is fantastic. Especially the cocktail bar is to be recommended in any case, which has no equal. A very recommendable hotel right in the centre of the city, where one repeatedely likes to come. 👍
My family stayed at the SoHo Grand during a power outage and we made to feel right at home; from check-in to departure the staff made sure we felt happy and safe, room was clean and clearly sanitized and as an added bonus, the restaurant and bar served up great food and drink. Additionally, you really cant be the location. Highly recommend!
I have stayed at this hotel a few times and have been taken care of wonderfully. So, for those that are guests 5 Stars hands down. I am leaving a review in hopes that hotel management will see this and address this issue...Tonight my friend and I decided to drop by the hotel for a drink, snacks and a chat. While the club room is reserved for hotel guests we sat in the adjacent seating hall (not the restaurant). We had zero service after someone dropped off the drink menus (with out the snack menu). This is not cool. The bar staff knew we were here and clearly ignored us. It’s not appreciated and feels like a FU to the folks that are not “in the club”.
Fun and upscale atmosphere. Rooms are on the definitely on the small side. The lobby is on the 2nd floor up the grand stairs, and is next to the restaurant. The rooms have a mini bar and fridge with all sorts of interesting and tasty things on display, but they all cost quite a lot. Bed was super comfortable. The noise insulation wasnt great, especially at night, when you can hear whats going on outside the hotel.
This is a slick boutique hotel. The rooms are nice. The service is polished. The bar is top shelf. There’s dogs in places they don’t belong. If you love dogs 24/7, no big deal. For the rest of us, it’s off putting. The gym is tiny - a surprise since there’s a separate charge for it. The location is dynamite.
I stayed here for one night with my girlfriend to visit New York. The welcome was very good! The staff was very professional and the courteous.Unfortunately we had a very dark room and it was not possible to change it.The night was good but we were very disappointed because to use the wireless you had to pay an extra fee and it was impossible to access the rooftop (even if it was advertised). Moreover the first night we noticed that we had only one bathrobe ans no rug in the bathroom (surprising for a grand hotel). For the rest i found very useful the luggage service and the hotel position. When I will return back in New York, for sure I will not return in this hotel.
I stayed here for one night while visiting the city for the weekend. The lobby was beautiful and all the staff were attentive and friendly. There is a live dj Saturday evenings until 2am where they also serve cocktails and drinks. There is also an on-site outdoor bar called guilligans which was pretty. However the room seemed to be constantly humid even with the air conditioning running which I believe also gave it a slight musty smell. It seemed a bit pricey based on this and the bar drinks were also very high, however a very pretty stay overall.
No answer when calling reception- several different times on different days while a guest in the hotel. Over charged for valet parking- we parked one day but were charged for 2 days and still waiting for a reversal of charges. These were the top 2 of 5 issues during stay. Would not recommend and will not be going back.
Great location, ambiance, decor, and service in each department. Especially loved the always open Soho Diner. They even provide healthy vegan options. The staff are obviously happy in their jobs which translates into excellent service and indicates to me that management is also doing somethings right.
I stayed here for a close by event and it was in close enough proximity that it worked out well. There are a few quick places for food like Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts and other market stores close by for easy access. The hotel is clean and I slept just fine. The AC turned cold quickly. The lobby and main floor are very low lit. I guess this puts off a cool vibe. Overall it was a great stay!
BED BUG INFESTATION! Do NOT stay here! They called to inform us, emailed, and said to throw away our luggage and even after promising they never reimbursed us! I am still covered in scars from the bites. They are also doing massive construction and do not care if their guests are disturbed all day long. They offered us ONE free breakfast voucher for four nights ruined. Only after bed bugs were found did they offer to compensate our full stay. Unreal nightmare of an experience. I would never go back and never recommend. Run away. (Especially if youre trying to rest before the NY Marathon.)
Overall, great NYC hotel and location. The bar and staff there are great and my wife and I had an amazing cocktail and great conversation as well. As for the rooms, I have to take one star away because the climate control situation leaves a lot to be desired. The system is ineffective and loud, and it will keep you up at night. Quarters are also a little tight but the bed was very comfortable, Hotel staff was great and we enjoyed our stay here.
I’ve stayed at the Soho Grand multiple times and have really enjoyed my stays. I was a longtime NYC resident until recently, and I couldn’t choose a better location now that I’m a visitor. The hotel is in a perfect location for shopping and dining in Soho and Tribeca, but also very convenient given that it’s close to so many subway lines. The rooms are very comfortable and often have a great view, and there is a fantastic bar/lounge area. And most importantly the staff is so friendly and accommodating! Annabelle in particular was so helpful; I had provided some feedback and she followed up with me throughout my stay to ensure my visit was a positive one, truly going above the customer service I would expect. Highly recommend!
Loved this hotel. Stayed for a girls weekend. Breakfasts are supper yummy and comfy on the lounge, that turns into a lively bar with very good music and a Dj at night. We came late to the bar after our night in the city, great drinks and very attentive staff. The rooms are gorgeous and the beds super comfy. It also has all the services you would want and a super packed mini bar. The views in our room where superb. One of the best hotels in New york
This review is for Gillians the out door bar. Beautiful space and delicious cocktails. I arrived around 4pm on a Thursday and it was very quiet, within 2 hours it was so packed that couldnt hear what people at my table were saying. We eventually left because it was so crowded.
Very impressed with this hotel. The staff was friendly, the rooms were clean and the location was great for subway access and shopping. The room service was excellent and quick. The only complaint is that the room was a little small but that is to be expected in the city.
Honestly, if its wasnt for the location, this would be a sub-par hotel in the rest of the US. I (or rather an agent for a company I was visiting did) booked a trip for two nights. After I arrived they *actually* told me not to get too comfortable the first night, and to not unpack my things because theyd be moving me to a new room the next day.. Their explanation -- they didnt have enough rooms so they were upgrading me for the night and were then moving me back to a regular room the next night. The way I saw it, they were downgrading me for the second night for *their* own convenience.I opened a small bottle of wine from their bar the first night and only had a glass from it (a Pinot not to write home about). When I came back from my business trip at the end of the first day, they had moved my possessions to a different room. But they hadnt moved my mostly unconsumed bottle of wine ($38 for a mediocre half bottle of Pinot). I spoke to the check-in desk when I arrived, asking if they had moved my stuff and if they had also moved my mostly unconsumed bottle of wine. I received a knowing smile in return and they did not even discuss the details. Their question -- did you label the bottle for moving ?Oh, I should also mention cause this might be amusing to some -- I asked for toothbrush stuff in the first morning and they literally brought me just a tooth brush, not toothpaste etc.. so if you want a toothpaste make sure to make the ask specific -- dont expect them to think for you.So, in summary, its generally a marginally OK hotel. Service levels -- meh / blah at best... Multiple people in NYC have told me it is a decent hotel, but it seems their assessment is generally based on the lounge in the hotel, not on the rooms in the hotel itself since they have never actually stayed there :). Take a look at the reviews for the hotel below and youll probably also find that the high ratings are generally from people taking about the lounge in the hotel, and not the hotel in itself....
Nice lounge vibe and really peps up on a Saturday night. Awesome cocktails and a great place to spend your money with friends. The lounge area swells up after hours and its not easy to spot the help at times. A good sign in terms of a smooth and sophisticated yet popular spot in NYC
First time staying here. Solo. Business. All good. The rooms are good and the bar is great. Friendly staff and a lot of interesting people staying here from all over. Citi bikes are a block or two away and you can walk to pretty much anything you need. Look forward to staying again.
Lovely! Its one of my favorite Hotel bars in the area. Its a little on the Posh and pricey side, however the decor and the company makes up for it. Super elegant and has a cool feel to it, love the Ambiance there. If youre in the area stop by for a cocktail and maybe some french fries and a burger.
As soon as you pass the threshhold of the hotel, its cool and chic vibe ushers you in. Grand staircases and an exceptionally good looking staff really elevate the experience. Comfortable sofas lining the walls, situated for people watching, just adds to the whole experience. Drinks and service were superb, and the food was divine. Highly recommend!
Staff is very helpful and friendly. Room is somewhat small but clean and comfortable. Breakfast was tasty. Found the restaurant bar a nice place for evening drinks but given that median age of the clientele the music was not well selected. Great location...... would definately stay here again.
Hotel is currently going through construction - unless you like being woken up by the sound of hammers and saws early in the morning, highly recommend you dont stay here until the construction is over.Front desk was unfortunately not helpful. Construction remained despite their multiple claims that they had spoken to security / security. For the price you pay, the service and hospitality do not match.
Went to Gilligans bar to meet some friends for pre-dinner drinks. We were excited to go for the amazing setting, but the service was really poor. The bartender was rude while I ordered and we were told that we could only use a table if we were getting food. However, there were mounds of empty tables and no where to stand around the bar. Plus, with pitchers totalling $60, it is not like we would not be spending a decent amount per table. I would not recommend it.
Our second time there and everyone recognized us and greeted us like family. Nearly a perfect experience. Only lacking almond milk for the coffee machine on the floor. We travel with three small dogs. They had a dog bed and dishes in the room. Two floors are reserved for dogs and they have a dog run next to the hotel. We will return!
Ok for the money. Called reception twice to get a second bath robe... I guess you really shouldnt be expecting 2 of them when you are booking a room forn2 guests.I likes the atmosphere. I liked the fact that there were two separate parties going on. The bar had one vibe, while a lounge across the lobby had a different one. Free entrance for hotel guests.Overall, I would come back. With my own bath robe, I guess. ;)
I partied so hard I lost my credit card. Room was sexy. After hours party was great. Shout out to dj Niles on the 1s and 2s. Overall great place to stay for a night or a week or however long. Staff is friendly and helpful. Beautiful city and the hotel is a great escape.
Front desk not so great at checking but then they work at a trendy hotel. Checkout was fine. Dark hallways arent especially my cup of tea but the room was nicely appointed if small. The breakfast was good and service very good. Note: Valet park with them is cheaper than across the street on your own.
One of the trendier hotels in the area with nice decor. The bar gets pretty loud so the rooms have white noise generators which do a good job of disguising noise from the hotel. The bar can be good fun so if youre more for making noise than listening to it youll love this place. That said, Im not trying to paint it to be horrific while in your room. This hotel is a favourite among colleagues travelling to the city balancing work and play.
Everything about this hotel seems tired. The lobby is dark and dingy. The halls are dark and dingy. The rooms are dark and dingy. I love the neighborhood, and the hotel is clean, with comfortable beds. So if you stay here, youll be fine. But there are some great hotels in the area, and I wouldnt put the Soho Grand in that category.
This is a solid hotel. The door staff and teams in general are friendly and attentive but there are a few things that mark it down for me. There is a definite ‘scene’ that happens late night meaning the bar and restaurant are over crowded and residents don’t appear to get any special treatment over other visitors. You’ll need to wait awhile and it then shout over your food. The room I had was next to a plant room of some sort - just bad luck - but the undulating hum was not great for jet lagged slip. But the low mark comes from one incident. At 11:45pm the night before I checked out at 5am I was called by the front desk asking for me to pay my incidentals bill. I told them I had just fallen asleep and would pay on the way out in the morning. They said I needed to pay now as people often forget. I said sure, I gave you my card on check on. Nope, they wanted me to come down - I couldn’t even do it over the phone. So I got out of bed, went down and paid. Effectively I felt like they were saying we don’t trust you not to pay your bar and restaurant bills. I don’t think you ever want to wake a guest unless in an emergency and when you have got a card a file it seemed excessive. It left a sour taste on what was otherwise an OK stay in a solid New York hotel.
First, I was not a guest staying in the hotel, which has beautiful rooms.I stopped by the hotel to listen to some DJs perform. There is a wonderful, cozy atmosphere there on the second floor. The roomy, comfortable couches and chairs in the lounge surround beautiful coffee tables and are perfect for gathering with a small group of friends or to relax with a date or your significant other. The dim lighting and candlelit tables lend a relaxing ambiance to the room. Food service is available at the tables, and the menu is excellent.I ordered an appetiser. The steak tartar topped with a raw quail egg which came in a large portion with grilled bread, mustard on the side and a few gherkins was a bit less than I expected for the price of $21.00 as the meat, delicately chopped and blended with Worcestershire sauce and other spices was a bit smushy and bland and a was served at almost room temperature. Although touted as being better than that at Pastis,I found it a disappointment.I ordered an abstinate, and had them put it in a large brandy snifter. At a price of $15.00, it was just the right thing I needed for a late nightcap.Off the side of the lounge is a small whiskey bar. It is stocked with over 50 different types which are displayed behind the bar on shelves which reach to the ceiling.I highly recommend this place.
I love Sohos Lounge Bar and come often so this review is only for their lounge. The food here is good; but I mostly come to unwind on weekends. The Barmen are very generous with their mixes. The ambiance of the lounge is very london, with a few little hideaways for you and your friends to escape the randoms. Music is nicely mixed. Very chill. The side bar is great in Spring and Summer.Figured I make this my first review since Ive come enough times. To be clear I never stayed here, since I live in NYC. So my review is just for the Lounge Bar.
The only good thing this hotel has going for it is the location and the lobby apart from that there isn’t much else the rooms are tiny and dusty. They charge you 150 holding deposit per night for every night you stay .They tried to tell us we had food out of the mini bar which we didn’t.We had booked a deluxe king room but they insisted we hadn’t and put us in a standard king room. The bed was still Definitely not a king bed.For paying near 800 aus dollars per night we excpected a five star luxury hotel not a hotel that felt like we were in a motor inn
Great hotel pretty affordable and rooms are clean and littler free. Prices are decent about 260 a night. I was stay in their penthouse so of course that would be more money. Inside was rustic with brick walls pretty old school but wonderful. Kids friendly and free wifi. The out door patio with beach chairs are nice and comfortable. Overall great experience and love this hotel for their luxurious penthouse.
Hidden fees! I called weeks in advance to confirm the hotel takes dogs and no one told me about their $50 per day pet fee. FYI they also have a $25 per day resort fee. I completely understand the charge for extra cleaning, however this shouldve been communicated when I called about the dog weeks in advance and when I checked in! I explained to the manager their was no communication of the pet fee and she just said sorry and too bad. Also, they centralize their AC, which there is no sign that says this, so our room was freezing at 59.5 degrees the entire stay even after I requested twice to have the temperature turned up. If youre looking for a great pet friendly, no hidden fee hotel, Soho Grand Hotel is wonderful!!!
Fantastic upscale hotel. Check-in requires you to go up a flight of stairs (I didnt realize this when I got there) and the restaurant is a little over priced, but the cocktails and drinks are great. Room service is also fantastic. Would definitely recommend, given its location, decor and professionalism of the staff.
5 stars for customer service. The bell man who helped us at 2am was so nice. All the door man over the weekend were so nice very attentive. The front desk was great. Concierge was helpful. Just overall the people who work here were pleasant. I hate when you go to a hotel and theyre rude or just dont seem to care. It was NYFW so the place was a little rowdy, but, fun if you like that kind of thing.
My husband and I decided to spend our wedding anniversary in NYC this year and since he has never been to the city, I wanted to stay in a hotel that was near the areas I like to visit. Our experience was fantastic and I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the city! Location is great, super easy access to the MTA and lots of walkable restaurants and shops. The hotel is beautifully decorated and our room was a pretty large compared to other hotels Ive stayed at in past trips to NYC. The staff were all friendly and attentive, they even upgraded our room and sent a bottle of champagne up when they heard about our anniversary! We are both extremely happy and will continue to stay here for future trips. Thank you for a great experience!
The lobby area is very nice, and the furniture placed in the rooms is modern and nice too. However, the rooms and hallways themselves felt dated - thick carpeting, dim lighting, and worst of all: an old, noisy and inefficient AC unit below the window that struggled to keep the room cool.Do bear in mind that I booked through a Hotwire Hot Deal (knowing this was the specific hotel, however), and that we were placed in a Queen room. Perhaps a discount booking gets an inferior room.
Had a great stay when we visited New York, Tons I’d cool bars and restaurants in area and easy to get to subway to travel anywhere in nyc. We’ve gone back twice to enjoy the bar at night and it’s always a great vibe, friendly staff and cool cocktails. Definitely enjoy coming here for a drink and snacks.
The hotel is too dark. People working there made a double payment on our credit card and the result was that our cards were blocked all the week. We payd all the week in advance plus 100 dollars a day if we intend to eat there that were not customary. The food was too expensive for the quality the gym too small for a 4 star hotel as well as the room. They didn’t menage to help us dealing with the problem of the credit cards.
The bar is great and beautiful here, usually a good scene at nights at bar. Staff is helpful and rooms are clean. Runs might be small but but normal for NYC standards, but 1 thing always tend to be broken in room. AC, leaking something or something doesnt work. But overall all a nice hotel
I stayed at the Soho Grand in March 2015 for 2 weeks and loved everything about it. The room was spacious and had an amazing view of New York towards the Empire State Building; I loved watching it change different colours each night. The house made muesli with almond milk was so delicious. The room was cleaned every day and the decor was very cool and quirky. I would definitely go back. Im from Sydney Australia
I stayed two nights at the Soho grand while traveling for business. Rooms were on the smaller side, which is to be expected in NYC. Premises were overall well maintained, and cleanliness was solid. Front desk staff were okay, didnt quite live up to the hospitality Ive read about in other reviews - maybe it was because of my t-shirt and comfortable dress?
Really lovely location but my word is it noisy. We stayed 8 days and 3 of the days there were road works outside. Other days were noisy all throughout the night because of the amount of traffic and car horns 24_7. There were a few members of staff who hang around the lobby by the lift who do not seem friendly or welcoming. The doormen are always nice as are the people behind the concierge.
The Soho Grand was wonderful. The employees are also all very professional and stylish. At check-in the lady was friendly and explained all of the rooms amenities to us. Afterwards we received complimentary champagne! In the room they have a mini bar and little snack bin with a good selection of things. Its tempting not to use anything, especially since the basket includes random things you might need like a toothbrush, condoms, a lace panty, chips? We chose this hotel mainly for the bathtubs in the room since most places only have showers and the bath was great. Hot water and the tub is deep so we could soak better. Our rooms heating and cooling worked wonderfully. We also had a nice view of the city at night- and having left the window open the sun woke us up and we had a nice view of the city during the morning as well. Room service was exceptional. The tray for breakfast was SO heavy but the guy who brought it in to us made it look like a piece of cake. Not to mention He had to balance our drinks on the tray for us. He also offered to take our old pizza box away for us so wed have more room which was a nice gesture. The breakfast in itself was nice. It was also amazing that they accepted breakfast room service at 9:40 AM since we forgot to put our breakfast vouchers out on the door handle and breakfast ended at 10:00 AM. They also called about 50 minutes after delivery to make sure everything was good with our meal. Exceptional, they didnt just leave us hanging. We only had a few problems. Our room keys didnt work properly the first time it was programmed. It was fixed right away when we went back to the reception desk. The second thing is we tried to have something of ours dry cleaned but the dry cleaners driver was unable to pick up the dry cleaning the evening we sent it out. The next morning they offered to do express service without any extra charge but the dry cleaner also phoned that they were unable to do the service because they were afraid the material might bleed. This wasnt the hotels fault but knowing that it couldnt be serviced it would have been nice to get the coat back sooner since we had to wait into the afternoon for the coat to come back from the dry cleaners without any changes to it.Overall fantastic experience and would stay here again. I didnt mention the bar or the lounge since we personally did not use these areas but it looked very comfortable and the lighting of the hotel was dim and gave the hotel a good ambience.
Easily accessible from the ACE Subway, the hotel is also a short walk from the NQR and 6. Rooms are small but cozy. The same can be said about the bathroom but the showers are hot and thats the most important part. Theres no fridge except for the mini bar and the ice bucket is tiny, so consider going to the bar downstairs for few drinks because the couches are great for lounging around.
Underwhelming experience on a recent stay - the rooms were renovated a few years ago, but more fundamental renovations were skipped. Expect ancient noisy AC units, and poor sound insulation on the windows.Deluxe King bedrooms are cynically placed on the noisier south side of the building, and dont seem to feature an actual King-sized bed - book the cheaper Deluxe Queen if you want to have a quieter room.Staff were full of good intentions - but overall execution was poor; staff offered to move us after we complained, but didnt actually make a note on their system or execute the move until we reminded them. We were promised a gift to apologise, which was never delivered to our room.Location is outstanding, and noise/bed size aside, rooms are nice enough (we loved the bathroom decor and our goldfish, Freida), but this isnt enough overall to make me want to return.
Room was nice but the plumbing was noisy. Sometimes when other rooms would use water Id hear it in my room and it was annoying. In addition, the checkin counter was busy sometimes which was a bit annoying to wait for. Overall it was a fine experience, but not the best or most relaxing hotel Ive stayed in.
Good location and excellent service. Rooms are a bit noisy and you hear other guests and corridor noise as well as street noise if your room is located towards the street. The room A/C unit is noisy... So all in all, the rating goes down due one notch due to noise levels.
I stayed in the soho Grand for a single night, but wish I bit was longer. It has a very stylish interior and an equally stylish bar/restaurant/lounge. I had one of the salads from the restaurant and it was very good. I didnt have much of a view from my fifth floor room, but the room itself was very nice.
Luxury it aint. But ok for a short stay. Great location. The bed was very tall and rather soft and shapeless. The room had an awkward round table for a desk/work space; but it lacked a comfy chair. The air conditioning was excessively noisy. The bathtub had peeling paint, but was otherwise ok. There was an unfresh, musty air in the corridors. The breakfast room / bar ok with good selections.
Absolutely divine, the staff were friendly professional, ambiance was a 10/10 .thank you, magnificent breath taking views, top class service, will definitely come back.Perfect location. the people at reception were super helpful too and went out of their way to assist when needed. We enjoyed our stay
Here are a few things I liked: decor, shower pressure, amenities, lobby and ambiance, friendly helpful staff.Opportunities for improvement: blackout curtains, volume on TV didnt work but we didnt mind because we were away from the kids and just relaxing. We had a great stay and would recommend it!
Great location for a hotel being right at canal street next to tons of touristy areas like Little Italy and China town but not to mention all the shopping and restaurants. Several subway stations within a block or two. The hotel is beautifully decorated and the rooms chic. Love it.
This hotel is a disaster from a customer service standpoint! The concierge was terribly put out to have a hotel guest in front of her requesting information about recommended restaurants and city happenings...it interrupted her personal phone call...”I’m dealing with someone I’ll call you back”. Is how she referred to phone caller having a hotel guest to assist... the carpets were worn and filthy in the room... on check out day they could not have been more dysfunctional...having prearranged for late check out ... the front desk communicated to the house keeping staff that I checked out... they removed my belongings... and caused a frantic search on my final few hours of visiting with my daughter for my luggage that should never have been touched... the lobby lounge food was terrible ...the truffled beignets were under cooked and made my daughter sick... their Niçoise salad didn’t even have nicoise olives and the tuna was like shoe leather and flavorless. When I Returned to my room I couldn’t enter because they terminated my key even though I arranged for late check out... the disasters just kept happening ... and when I asked for a simple credit for inconvience, poor service and awful food the manager carelessly and with an air of superiority dismissed my concerns as unimportant and as business as usual... wow SoHo... is a BIG NONO!
This is my fourth time at the Soho Grand, and I love staying here. The hotel has a unique atmosphere, great styling, comfortable rooms and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. Its also in a great location with Soho, the West Village and Tribeca right on its doorstep. Its starting to feel like a home from home.
This is my favourite hotel in New York. I am from Manhattan yet elect to stay here. The rooms are beautiful, great views, amazing customer service. I am giving it 4/5 because my car was scuffed in the valet parking and it was covered in white paint to attempt to conceal it. I would have preferred honesty -- everything else about the hotel is truly amazing and worth the stay. But I wont be dishing out 50$ again to have someone scuff my new car.
Concierage lady was kind and helpful when I check in, which is the only reason it gets 2 stars instead of 1.Room is small; bathroom is outdated and toilet is louuuud. Some maintenance person opened the room door when I was napping in the AFTERNOON (I merely checked in for hours). What were you here for?! I sure as hell didn’t ask anybody to come. The elevator malfunctioned and refused to go my floor and no body was working in the front desk area at 10PM which is ridiculous. Then I have a security personal question my identity as a hotel guest... all in the first day of staying here. Stay away. There are better choices.
Very nice hotel with tasteful decore, but quite expensive. We stayed in a corner king room, which had good views towards Midtown, although it was not as spacious as I thought it might be. The bar/restaurant was also very nice, but it has more of a nightclub vibe at night, which might not be for everyone. Location is good, close to the SoHo shopping district and about a 50 minute walk to Midtown.
Fantastic service, but recognize at the front desk when others needs can be assessed. Was waiting for about 10 mins while 2 other Soho employees helped 2 other couples who were clearly just looking for connected perfect rooms. This is totally okay, but it took up too many reception folks tot do so
The Soho grand is a beautiful hotel located in a great area if you want to be downtown lower Manhattan or Soho. As New York City goes the hotel rooms are fairly good size. The service is excellent From the moment you drop off your car. Food at the hotel is quite good in fact a pie 8 probably the best salad I have ever eaten in my life. Yes I was hungry and yes I paid $40 for it but God it was good.
Can there be a better location if you want to be in Soho? No. the lounge area is perfect to sip coffee or a cocktail, and the rooms while comfortably small offer all you need. The staff is understanding and always available to help. The cocktails in the bar can be a bit pricy, but well, your in the Soho Grand. Good menu for anytime of day. All calls to the front desk or concierge answered quickly. The outdoor bar, a fun after work place to chill out.
Great hotel. Good ambiance, well appointed rooms, outlets throughoutthe room which is a nice touch. Bed very comfortable. Stayed because my flight was cancelled and I was rebooked the next day, enjoyed some time walking around SoHo and the Village, hotel is uniquely positioned squarely in the middle of both neighborhoods. Would definitely stay again.
Tl;dr: I wish I’d stayed at the holiday inn.The location is convenient but that’s all it’s got going for it for its one star. I was referred over by their sister hotel, the Roxy, due to a glitch with my booking and them being out of rooms by the time I arrived. No worries, I walk over to the Soho grand and expect the same level of elite customer service and cool, fun vibe. Not so, at the Soho Grand, where I was treated as a liar and a cheapskate when trying to spend $300+ on a ‘luxury hotel’ experience (their words, not mine!). The front desk staff argued with me for a half hour, refusing to honor the rate that was given to me both online and confirmed by the Roxy. I finally get upstairs to my ‘upgraded’ room, which is a tiny, outdated, impersonally furnished room and my key doesn’t work, so I then have to spend another 15 minutes waiting for elevators to get a new one made and back upstairs.Don’t waste your money here, take it someplace else that understands how to treat its customers and is a higher quality room/decor. There are plenty of options in this city!
Stayed for 4 days over Christmas. They were understaffed (long lines for front desk and long waits in restaurant). Also, the maintenance people painted sealant one afternoon that caused us to evacuate to another floor due to the fumes. Quite an inconvenience to pack up and move to another room. Now there’s some construction noise from drilling that is causing a headache. Overall a big disappointment.
The hotel was clean however the elevators are soooo frustrating. It took us about ten minutes to get to our floor because it kept stopping for people and going down even though we were on first. Then the most annoying thing is that the roof is not available for anyone in the hotel except for the people who are in the penthouse. This is unbelievable. The reason people go to the city and stay is to see the beautiful view. For 300+ a night I should be able to have access to a roof. AND theyre free WiFi is a joke. They only give you 5 mb for free. You cant even finish a song with that amount. Then they ask you to pay 12 bucks for more internet. Will never stay here again.
This place is nice everything but I swear this hotel is haunted. I heard a demon at the front lobby. Yall can call me crazy but this place gives me the creeps. You probably wont notice it if you are not sensitive to energies. Apart from that its really gorgeous and kinda gothic. Super fancy and fabulous.
Got the room through Hotwire. Ended up with a queen bed on the north side of the building. We were told we would have a view of the Empire State building but the building on the other side of the street is in the way. The room size is small but I expect that most hotels of this kind are similar in size. There arent many sights around the hotel so I used the subway the entire trip. There are two subway stops but both are a few blocks away. It did look like they have bikes that could be used but I did not ask about them. Maybe next time. Overall the hotel was nice and I would stay here again but I would bring better walking shoes next time.
The best hotel in the soho area. I have a business in the neighborhood. Brian Cooke from sales always takes very good care of my clients. He’s my go-to guy for all sales and service needs. Hotel is very conviently located in the heart of soho, filled with great amenities. Check them out ASK FOR BRIAN COOKE!

2022-07-09Stayed here for one night and the hotel was great. Excellent customer service and the room was clean and the size was perfect for two people. They have new 65 inch TVs in the rooms and automatic blackout shades. Downstairs there are two great restaurants and a club. We could not hear any sound from the club during our stay.I would try getting drinks from Gilligans as it is all outdoor seating and has a great ambiance with plants all around and a cool beachy vibe.Room service was quick and the food was good but for a better food option go downstairs.A+ service and great location in Soho. If you have the chance to stay here do it!

2022-04-07Clean, nice rooms. Fun lobby bar. Really nice spot in a great location. Marcus at the front desk is incredibly attentive and friendly. We send all of our out of town patients and clients of Barber Surgeons Guild to stay at SoHo Grand. They all have nothing but excellent things to say. Gilbert handles everything with ease and is a pleasure to work with.

2021-12-16I always love staying at this hotel when in the city. Its convenient to so much. The rooms are nice, good size for a NYC hotel. Im particular about bathrooms, especially showers, and they dont disappoint. The staff is friendly and helpful. The lounge at the bar is perfect for a drink before going out. You are going to get street noise, but its NYC. Its expected. Just bring earplugs.

2022-02-04LOVED this hotel. I was going to book a cheaper hotel but am glad we chose this one!! Room had plenty of space for 2 of us, nice fitness center and fun bar! Very fun atmosphere. I would love to stay here again when I travel back to NYC in a couple of months.

2022-05-12It’s tired, the rooms are noisy , very noisy , i could hear the entire life story of the guest next to me through the adjoining door , like seriously , come on , this is not acceptable in a premium $$ hotel , the black out blind didn’t work ( and who wants to move room at 11pm) , the gym was minging/filthy , and the lifts take forever . It could be so much more. Finally i asked the receptionist where i could eat , he said , oh try the lounge it’s a lovey ambiance , when i went there , a guy with the worst attitude ever , and i mean stinking , said live music is over in 30 minutes and you have to buy a table , whatever that means , and then stood in the way of me … and this is a 500$ a night hotel !Positives - the doorman are nice , but directed me to a starbucks that has been closed for 2 years , the diner food is nice , and the bathrooms are lovely .

2022-06-16I would never stay here again. The staff treated me like a criminal for eating a slice of pizza in the bar, even after the hostess and servers said it was ok. I witness a server stick his bare finger into a beer and when I notified the staff, they denied the possibility of that even happening. I know what I saw.Nevertheless, don’t spend the money to stay here. If you do, stay on a higher floor as the dance music is loud late into the night. This place is a joke and not worth it.
