Soma cakes makes the most beautiful and delicious cakes ever. Hiroyo made my wedding cake and I will forever be grateful. I just picked up some cupcakes today :)
Soma cakes is very professional. They respond quickly to emails and their cakes are delicious. I ordered a strawberry shortcake for my friends birthday to be delivered. They showed up on time and the cake looked exactly the way we wanted. I had no issues and definitely will be ordering from them again. I am so pleased.Update:I ordered again for my daughter’s sixth birthday. Again the service was great. The cupcakes were delivered on time and they looked just like the picture.The vanilla rainbow icing with the vanilla rainbow cupcake was delicious. Everyone was asking where I got them from.
Absolutely loved our unicorn cake. It was spectacular and our “daughter” (also edible) was even riding the unicorn! The designer put her heart into the concept and researched before coming up with a design. Many cakes that look amazing don’t taste it. This was the perfect cake. Looked beautiful & tasted great.
My experience with Soma was fantastic and I would give more stars if I could. The cake was beautiful, delicious Iand on time. I ordered a cake a week before my mothers birthday and explained the occasion and my requirements, my mother is classic carribean picky. She listened intently and the finL product was amazing and exactly what I wanted. Tbey offer delivery but my sister went to pick it up and it was raining she told me that they made her comfortable while she waited for her Uber and carried her bags to the car and wouldnt let her walk out the door without an umbrella, Id already paid and they were under no obligation. Thats just great customer service. If you are wondering, yes my mother loved the cake, so did my aunts, and her friends; that was Sunday and Im still getting calls about how beautiful and delicious the cake was. Ill say it, customer for life.
My mom ordered a custom cake for my birthday from Soma cakes. First of all, the cake was absolutely DELICIOUS. I mean seriously fantastic. There’s a very famous cake place in Chelsea I used to order from - not anymore!Second of all, the lady who delivered it (I didn’t get her name) was so sweet - I was half asleep opening the door, but even in my groggy state I remember she was SO excited when she told me happy birthday that it still makes me smile days later :)Thirdly (and this is information from my mom), Soma truly went above and beyond to create my cake. My mom apparently called no less than 10 bakeries looking for anyone who could make a White Forest cake (which is basically a Black Forest cake just with white chocolate & vanilla cake) and got canned responses from every single one of them - even the ones who sold Black Forest cakes! - who refused to deviate even slightly from their menu.Soma was the only place that jumped to the task and they did an AMAZING job. Also they were very concerned with the high delivery charge (Brooklyn address) via an external service, which is why I believe the lady my mom spoke to is the one who delivered it personally instead - which is so so so nice! Thank you SO much for the delicious cake, and a million more Thank You’s for making my birthday so special (White Forest has been my favourite cake since I was little, but is literally impossible to find in North America so the last time I had it was for my 15th birthday a decade ago). I almost cried when I saw what was in the box. You are ALL amazing and I will be recommending you to everyone I know!Edit: I just saw a yelp review where the celebrant’s mom called and asked Soma to use her personal recipe so her daughter could have a cake that tastes like home - and they did it. I mean WHO DOES THAT?!! This place is an absolute GEM, and deserves all the fame I’m sure they will get in the future. Wow!!
In the middle of the pandemic covid 19, I needed a special cake for a client. Unfortunately, a lot of stores were closed but not Soma Cakes. Because I had my own vision, I designed the cake and gave the owner all the details she would need to make it. The cake turned out so beautiful that Cake Masters Magazine featured it in its weekly highlights. Soma Cakes has nimble fingers... Not to mention that the taste and texture were ...hmmm, how to find the good words ?... Simply delicious. Thanks Soma Cakes.
I ordered a cake very last minute, maybe two days before I needed it. The owner was incredible sweet and super efficient time email me back in such a short period.Not only was the customer service superior , the cake was stunning. The person who I got it for cried!Highly recommended this bakery, you won’t regret it.
If we could give Hiroyo and Soma Cakes 10 stars out of five, we would. We found out about Soma Cakes after a bad experience with our previous wedding cake designer. We were nervous and hoping that things would go smoothly this time around.From the start, Hiroyo was fantastic! She is so kind and welcoming (and has an adorable kid too!), and was willing to sit down with us as many times as we needed. She was patient and thoughtful as we described the wedding cake we were imagining, and offered suggestions based on her expertise and experience.Hiroyo also has incredible, and we mean incredible, talent as a baker and artist. We requested a unique flavor of cake that is very non-traditional. Although Hiroyo had never attempted the flavor before, she nailed it on her first try, and we were blown away at our cake tasting appointment! Hiroyo then provided a beautiful sketch of our wedding cake--a design surpassed only by the real thing.The cake itself was beautifully crafted, and tasted amazing. We cant thank Hiroyo enough for her hospitality, her talent, and for how engaged she was throughout the whole process. We cant wait for another opportunity to seek her talents and services again. Cute little cake boutique tucked away in alphabet city making everything from birthdays to wedding cakes with such amazing detail. Everything looks too pretty to eat! Owner is easy to work with, pricing is reasonable and the cakes taste great! Would highly recommend!!
Such a beautiful bakery and pleasant host. I ordered a dozen cupcakes for my nieces bday and the flavors and taste of the cupcakes was fresh, tasty and hits every pallet in your mouth. I love love chocolate but was blown away by the strawberry cupcake with a hint of jelly on top of it. I have to say it is my favorite😍😍😍I will be back to order my son his bday cake. So far he has settled on Sonci the Hedgehogs
They did a really great job on making an Italian rainbow cookie cake with a picture on top. The look and taste were just right! Also, they were very courteous during the whole process and accomodated all of my requests.
Soma cake does amazing work and not only looks amazing but taste great as well! When I brought them my idea for the cake I had they were easy and so accommodating. I will definitely be coming back for my next occasion.
HIROYO IS THE BEST!! I had been talking with another bakery for two months and they canceled on me a week before. I called Soma Cakes with less then a week for my event and Hiroyo did it, NO PROBLEM, reasonable price and it came out BEAUTIFUL. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED AND WILL BE BACK. THANK YOU HIROYO AGAIN!!!!
I had a dulce de leche cake made recently here, and i must say it was phenomenal!!! Getting all my special occasion cakes here for the rest of my life! The staff were very kind and attentive and the cake was made with delicacy and grace. I hope they expand to queens soon!
If youre looking for a special cake, Soma cakes is a place to go. You will not take your eyes off the display window and you probably need to order more servings than you need because the cake is too delicious. One more please!😋😍

2022-05-07SOMA cakes made our wedding cake, and it turned out fantastic!It was a real pleasure working with Satoko who talked us through different flavors and designs to get exactly what we wanted. They were able to mix-and-match multiple flavors in one cake, and replicate design elements we liked from pinterest and elsewhere. The final product was gorgeous, and delicious!

2021-09-20I was fortunate to be able to sample their cupcake (this was a special treat as they normally do custom-made spectacular cakes). They were mind-bogglingly GOOD!!! Light, fluffy, moist, just the right level of sweetness and makes you smile throughout the day. Cant wait to order a custom cake!!

2021-08-22Beautiful cake and very well packed. 0 complaints there however it tasted horrible - like synthetic almond flavor. I ordered pistachio with lemon buttercream. I did not taste the buttercream. I was embarrassed cause everyone was gossiping how terrible the cake is and no one ate it other than 1 bite. I trashed 3/4ths of the cake away. Besides that, the cake pops (balloons) had styrofoam instead of actual cake. When my 2 year old took it and bit into it he almost choked. For $450 I expected the cake pops to be edible. This is unacceptable for the price. I do not recommend.

2021-06-01Thank you for our beautiful and delicious winter themed wedding cake!Hiroyo and her team knocked it out of the park. From initial contact to tasting to placing the order everything went smoothly and Soma cakes provided top notch customer service.The flavors were delicious and our guests loved them. I particularly recommend the green tea sponge.

2022-03-27If Yelp would allow, I would give this baker 10 stars. Satoko and her team dont make cakes, they make masterpieces. We hired her to create a custom Paw Patrol themed birthday cake for my sons 5th birthday party. She was extremely easy to work with and very responsive via e-mail. We asked for her suggestions regarding the design and she was able to give us multiple options. We made changes to the order several times and she was always extremely accommodating. The day of the party, the cake was delivered right on time and, as you can see from the picture, it was literally a work of art. The cake was a showstopper and just about every parent wanted to know who made it. The most magical moment was when my son saw his birthday cake.....his little eyes got as big as pancakes and he said WOW!If you are willing to pay for it, SOMA can make a cake for any occasion. These cakes are like works of art. In fact, the cake was so beautiful, we ALMOST didnt want to slice it! But when we did it was absolutely delicious! I would highly recommend SOMA!

2022-02-02Cakes were awesome. The owner Hiroyo is the sweetest but her partner is Rude and Nasty and greedy when communicating on the phone and emails. And doesn’t let you talk to the owner Hiroyo. Insists on talking to her and not the owner. Does not know how to conduct herself in business. Don’t think I will be going back. And mind you I have done cakes there for about 2 years. Never again.

2020-08-15I wanted so badly to love the cake. The service was impeccable. They delivered on time and were very polite and helpful. The cake was beautiful. Stunning even. However, what i ordered- a vanilla cake with cookies n creme filling- was not up to par. It tasted like pure chemicals, or like nail polish. This was for my daughters 20th birthday on may 29. She was very disappointed and ultimately we threw the entire cake in the garbage. Money gone to waste unfortunately. I’ll advise anyone who wants to order from here to avoid the cookies and creme filling.

2019-10-28Im so glad Hiroyo has opened a shop in the city! I stopped by this weekend with a friend whos getting married next year and the shop looks amazing!Hiroyo has made my wedding cake, my sons first birthday cake, my best friends wedding cake, and hopefully countless others that I have sent her way. The cakes are meticulously detailed and you can tell she really cares about the customer and their needs. Shes also a real artist, she took the idea of for my sons birthday cake and made it 1000x better than I was imagining.Annnnd the cakes taste amazing as well.UPDATE: I took a class with the owner, Hiroyo, to sculpt a pumpkin cake! I cant believe I made this cake. Photo evidence attached. Although I did get a lot of help in making this beauty, I learned a lot in the class and Hiroyo is super fun and funny to be around. Highly recommend taking one of her classes if youre looking to improve your skills.

2020-01-29I loved everything about this cake, from the details of the petals to the color scheme to the taste. The cake itself was delicious, we chose a vanilla cake with oreo stuffing frosting. You can taste the freshness and the cake was moist not dry like most beautiful cakes. The owner was super friendly and accommodating even though i showed up 48hrs before my event. I will definitely recommend this cake shop to everyone in NYC.
