Great Find in the heart of Middletown! Stopped in on a Saturday night for dinner with the husband! We were seated right away and our server was super sweet! We sat in the enclosed patio and we felt like we were eating in the middle of central park. The lights and decor really set a great tone. The food was delicious and their desserts are to die for!!! If you are in the area definetely try to stop in!!! You will not be disappointed!!! My suggestion - try one of everything!!!
Omgoodness I CANT STOP TELLING MY FRIENDS ABOUT THIS AMAZING CAFE.... I came across this Cafe headed to business appt and I had to try it out and I have to say the service the food was truly truly good. I cant wait for my friends come up to visit me so I can take them here.
This cozy little place in the heart of Middletown certainly qualifies to be a Hudson Valley gem.Their appetizers, salads, and main course made up of wraps, sandwiches, etc. are all excellent. So are their bakery goodies - delectable. Please check their hours of operation to avoid disappointment.
We got lunch for 10 of us today from Something Sweet - I think everyone got something different - from salmon, to salads, to pizza, to sandwiches and soup... everyone *loved* their food! And bonus, the prices are great -esp considering the super high quality.Downtown Middletown has quite the gem in Something Sweet!
Absolutely Delicious!!! This place is quaint, cozy and intimate. Its a great place for a date, family or hanging out with friends. The desserts are scrumptious. I have been here several times over the years and the quality of the food and service has only gotten better. And Youre not just limited to dessert, they serve food too.
Great Service! Very nice atmosphere! The food has definitely improved since I last visited several years ago. The dinners are wonderful, the hanger steak was cooked to perfection. Appetizers, desserts, coffee and almond hot chocolate was all delicious.Charcuterie could definitely, have a larger portions even if they charge more. The meats and cheeses were delicious!Thank you have Gluten free food on your menu. I will return very soon! God Bless!
Today I visited family in Middletown and decide to go to something sweet cafe, or should I say something not so sweet. My sister, and I had ordered To-go from this cafe before, and had a pleasant experience. Which shocked me this time around, seeing that today’s experience was not only disappointing, but left me disheartened .We walked in a lil pass 4 o’clock to order to-go desserts, and walked over to the pastry case to wait for someone to take our order. Ten minutes pass, and no one greets, or even acknowledges us waiting there, so we proceed to ask the young blonde by the POS system “ Id like to order pastries to-go...” , she just nods. After another 10 mins or so pass, my sister asked the ( what seemed to be the bus boy) to help us please, and he was as sweet as can be, to help us as fast as possible. When he was done he asked if he could help with anything else, so I inquired about a discount for the inconvenience, not only waiting so long, but for the simple fact that no one said a word to us for 20 mins😯. Now, I normally wouldn’t write a review on a place, but the manager that the gentleman redirected me to, to ask about a discount was wildly inappropriate in her aggressive tone and attitude towards me. She began to yell at me, and purposely try to embarrass me in front of other patrons explaining how the cafe was busy, and everyone’s trying their best, and how the phones have been none stop( it wasn’t that busy....guess for Middletown 🤷🏽♀️). After the continuous confinement in the business, she then grabbed the items I was ready to pay for and slammed them in front of me, and loud and sarcastically tells me “ here just take it , thank you for your patronage” I placed cash in the tip jar, but the shock of the level of disrespect given to me was appalling. Giving me the free pastries doesn’t cover up the fact that you’re rude and unprofessional. So be warned, if you don’t like being disrespected, I guess this isnt the place for you.
Had lunch and dessert here. Ordered the turkey & brie BLT for lunch. It was pretty good. The salad had candied pecans which was a nice touch. For dessert I ordered the petit gateau. It was vanilla flavor that day I believe. Was disappointed with this one. The cake was quite dry and not much flavor. Chocolate coating was good though.Service is good overall. It has a nice ambiance and is well decorated.
A hidden gem in Middletown! From the staff to the amazing food, it is truly like you stepped into any trendy nook in your favorite city. Super friendly staff and yummy food from lunch to dinner to treats. Sit out in the glass dining area and order the Mediterranean spring platter. Yum!! Great place with lots vegan items.
I have gone here a couple times, for a quick cup of tea, to pick up an order, and to sit down and eat a meal. Food is satisfying and delicious, staff is super friendly, and there is a patio area to sit in that is climate controlled. They have gluten free options and Ive never had a problem with cross contamination. I love this little cafe!
Always a great place for a light, refreshing menu. Summer strawberry salad is one of my favs. No reservations so get there for 12pm as seating is limited due to COVID practices. 3 outdoor tables for two, atrium and indoor seating, take out and curbside pick up. I love this atmosphere and the service has always been good.
I dont get to go to Something Sweet as much as I would like to because of work, but whenever I do get the chance its always lovely. My boyfriend is obsessed with the chili and I love the rustic pizza and the vegetarian options. Friendly staff and overall wonderful atmosphere! Definitely recommend.
The decor is simple and pleasant, not overwhelming or distracting from the meal experience. Small tables and chairs with a large booth area for parties of 5 of more.. There isnt words to describe the service and counter person. An adorable blonde girl has been super helpful and friendly. I ordered the super food salad with beer battered cod fish. I dont even like fish and the Cod fish is delicious!! The green goddess dressing is so delicious but not overpowering. So tasty and a huge portion. Desserts are also always superb and consistently delicious.
Lilana’s incompetence is an understatement and lack of basic customer service leaves something to be desired. Really wanted to like this place as there are a lot of vegetarian friendly options.Asked for straws and never received them, waited over 15 mins. I had to approach her at the register and only then was I given some...no apology, no big deal.Ordered a salmon salad and requested NO dairy. Waited over 45 mins for a salad, place was not packed, only for the order to have what? Dairy.Again no apology...inexcusable. Will not return as my dollars can be utilized elsewhere.
My husband, daughter and I absolutely loved Something Sweet Cafe. We had been looking for someplace to waste about half an hour, before Paramount Theater opened, and decided to grab a coffee and treat, here. The atmosphere was so cozy, warm and surprisingly peaceful (a feeling I dont get all that often, since moving to NY) and the entire place was immaculate. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and greeted us as soon as we walked through the door. We each ordered a drink (Chai Tea Latte, Macchiato and green tea) and desserts. My daughter and I got the petit gâteau, which were as adorable as they were delicious. Everything was wonderful. I didnt realize they also served food, so we will definitely have to come back, when we have more time. The food that passed us looked amazing.
Apologize in advance for any typos. Has Im using a voice text to assist me in completing this quickly. At the risk of sounding like a d-bag, I have been waiting months to be able to get back to Something Sweet if not longer, and well... Let me see the good first. Good? I love this place. It just is super relaxed and really just cool. Its got a really cool vibe to it. This place is obviously for adults. And I like that. :-) the place is called something sweet and it really delivers where that is concerned. The Suites are absolutely fantastic Ive had them on numerous occasions and never been disappointed with anything that I purchased. On to their coffee, the quality of their coffee is really well Im not going to say second to none cuz thats quite a high bar, but it really is absolutely fantastic. The coffee is full flavored well roasted robust without being overly bitter as a finish, super pleasing on the palate. The staff is always really Pleasant and very polite and very accommodating oh, thats why I like this place and the only reason I dont get by more often as I live quite a distance away. I also didnt know their hours which are for the most part just lunch hours which is kind of odd for being also a coffee house. Where I have a problem, insert douchebag part, is in the execution of a very simple drink. And I dont blame the staff that made my drink, I blame the ownership or management. I asked for a very simple thing which was a large cappuccino extra dry. This is a basic drink, and what you would expect to have is a cappuccino with Les steamed milk and more foam. Instead, what I received, was more foam and lots of milk. Which technically is closer to a latte macchiato. now I still love the taste of the drink oh, it just could have been better. And one of the reasons why I asked for the drink extra dry is because of an issue with too much Dairy. Not to be a jerk, that wasnt my intention. And when youre pan close to four bucks for a drink you kind of want to get it right.. now I also know that very few people will say anything they just instead well out tell other people or not come back. I do plan on coming back, hopefully I dont have to say anything to the person behind the counter and have them remake my drink. i instead would love to have the simple pleasure of having my drink that I waited months and months for made correctly. Again, I would definitely come back, I love the place, unless they decide to be less than friendly I would always want to come back. :-) something sweet does a good job! I just wanted it to be great. something sweet thanks for all that you do.
Every time I go I pick something different and have never been disappointed. Absolutely delicious. Once in a while, the waiter staff can be a little slow but that is only because the place can get packed very quickly. They are not slacking off, they are just working really hard with a packed house. You will not be disappointed.
Something Sweet Dessert CafeFood: very cute neighborhood joint. I usually come here for lunch and some sweet treats. I get the roast beef melt which is delicious, with the soup of the day, which I believed was lentil when we went. Finally we must get something sweet to end our meal. We got the cheesecake. The people there are super friendly and its a great place to catch up with your friends while grabbing a quick bite.Brew: they have a nice selection of NY craft beers, which is a great find in a place like Middletown!!
Visited the cafe today for the first time for breakfast. Very nice decor and cozy atmosphere with nice soothing music. Service was very good and attentive, warm greeting upon entrance of cafe. Food was good and prices are reasonable. My new local hangout! (Sorry Starbucks)
Something Sweet is such an awesome little joint; delicious desserts and great coffees (plus options for going sugar and dairy-free!) And the lunch and dinner options are extensive and amazing! Cozy atmosphere and a rare gem in Middletown. Please support this fantastic small business!
Delish little patisserie and cafe. An unexpected find in Middletown. Enjoy the patio while its still warm out. There is no full tea service, but they do serve hot tea. They carry sweet and savory items on the menu. Its definitely better than Starbucks, pricier than Panera. Its a treat for the eyes and tastebuds.Tables mostly seat two, a couple tables on patio seat 4-6. One unisex bathroom. Very clean. Service is attentive yet calm.Try the brie covered in honeyed orange marmalade with honey covered pecans. Quite good.
My family and I went for dinner and I was disappointed to find out that they couldnt cook a steak for my son who has Celiac and cant eat Gluten. I had called earlier that morning to find out if they could accomodate our needs and they said that wouldnt be a problem. When we arrived the waitress told us that they couldnt make a steak because the owner wasnt there. Needless to say that our teenage son was disappointed with the news which I found odd. We were celebrating a family members birthday that night, my son ended up having to have chicken and rice soup for dinner because there was nothing else on the menu that interested him. I dont understand why the owner has to be there for them to cook a steak??? Will think twice before going again!
Went there for lunch today. The food is good, however the service was poor. Once we were given our food, the waitress disappeared and we did not see her until we got up, walked to the counter and asked for the bill. We were waiting for her return so we could get a refill for drinks and order desert but she never came back. We sat there for 20 minutes after we finished eating before deciding to get up, ask & pay the bill and just leave.
I love this quaint cafe. It reminds me of NYC with brick walls, cozy tables, freshly made desserts, fresh salads, and light dishes that please your taste buds and leave you satisfied NOT stuffed (and uncomfortable). The sunroom offers an enclosed seating area that is both romantic and informal---try to sit here in the warmer months when they offer live music on Thursdays. The cha latte is one of my favorite treats, along with the lemon tart. Their salads are super fresh, the salmon burger was light but tasty.....the young staff are amazing, friendly, welcoming and efficient! Treat yourself--you wont be disappointed
I ordered a cup of hot water with my meal. I was charged $1.00. When I questioned the waitress, she responded, We pay for hot water. I have eaten at many restaurants in Middletown and in Manhattan. No one has ever charged $1.00 for a cup of hot water. The fee was not listed on the menu, and if they want to charge, then a customer should be informed by the waitress. I was very upset by the flippant response. Poor business management and/or staff training! I will not return.
The place is a hidden gem in Middletown. The service is always excellent no matter who it is. They use high quality, fresh ingredients in everything they make. The menu is unique compared to other restaurants in the area. They also have a wide variety of coffee that can accompany any meal. The desserts are decadent and rich. This is one of my favorite places to go in Middletown! :-)
The cake that was done for my nephews babyshower was beyond what I expected. I was completely amazed at their expertise, speedy customer service and they were able to replicate every detail I requested. Seeing how large the cake was, how beautiful and great tasting it was, it was well worth the price. I will definitely be returning and recommending them
Went here 2 weeks ago about 9:15pm with my wife and son to try. We were told to sit down then ignored for about 15 minutes. Coffee was good, I had apple crumb which was ok, and my son had chocolate chip cookie which he didnt like. Very nice place but if they dont hire good service this place is going to flop.
Im actually shocked that the service was so bad. I even tipped before I sat down, but had to keep getting up and requesting everything I needed myself. Not happy at all. I couldnt actually enjoy my meal. Once I came with a group, they were way more attentive and it was busy! Perhaps it was different staff. Idk please fix.
Very quaint and welcoming cafe that is seriously needed in the Middletown area. The food was excellent with many healthy options and fresh ingredients, prices are reasonable, and the atmosphere is very homey.Overall an awesome place for any meal at any time whether it be breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, or just dessert and coffee/tea.
Excellent service, food is very well prepared, and atmosphere is very appealing. It certainly is a gem in Middletown, NY. A must go to place if youre planning on being in the area. There is parking for the restaurant in the rear of the property, and street parking too.
I was just treated as if I was invisible. The waiter went and started trying to take the order of the guy behind me cause he knew him! Meanwhile Im standing there dumbfounded then when I tried to speak to the owner about it I was treated as if my time wasnt important! Have had a buisness directly across from them for many years now and Ive frequented the establishment many times but not once in my 15 years have they even stepped foot inside! The business district in Middletown is not very supportive! I will never go back there and recommend my friends to not support either. The owner finally pulled herself away to speak to me and hang up in my ear! Disgusting!!

2021-07-26This cafe conveniently located at downtown Middletown, in a nice old corner building . Have both indoor and outdoor tables. We came here after dinner, so just got desserts. They were yummy. We decided to come back sometime and try their lunch/ dinner.

2021-04-03Incredible food. So much variety and so many unusual food combinations, including vegetarian options, that you know that person in the kitchen must love cooking. So. Much. And also, cooking for people with all kinds of tastes. Beautiful atmosphere. Delightful, not too sweet desserts. What an amazing find!

2022-04-19Something Sweet is always good! And the best part is the vegan cupcakes! Im allergic to dairy and I love being able to have delicious sweets that wont kill me. Its tricky to have great vegan cupcakes but they certainly pull it off. The food is great too!

2021-01-22Located on a narrow street, and is not good on parking. I suggest parking behind the DMV, and walking back. It is about a block or so. Most of the desserts are a bit pricey, but I am sure they are all good. The Apple Crisp is AMAZING! Probably the best I have had so far. They do sell more than just desserts. They have salads, sandwiches, and entrees. I just went for dessert, but also bought a Apple Maple salad which was pretty good.

2020-06-29This is the first dine-in restaurant we ate at since the beginning of the pandemic. I ordered the hummus plate and mushroom risotto while my fiance ordered the crab cakes and the scallops. Hummus was great! Crab cakes can use a bit improvement. I was getting pretty full at this point from all the bread... Risotto was good (I had to add salt for a bit more savory flavor) and the scallops were what I expected. The sauce for the scallop was pretty good. Not a bad experience. I wouldve chosen the hangar steak instead of the risotto. Place is nice to take a date or hang out at. Friendly service as well.

2020-02-21My boyfriend and I are so happy we stumbled upon this beautiful cafe for dinner tonight! The ambiance was sleepy and cozy, the staff was wonderful and friendly, and their dinner food was just as delicious as their bakery goods and desserts! I wish I had more pictures, though every detail (real candles, fresh flowers, plentiful menu options) was impeccable. We both highly recommend Something Sweet Dessert Cafe! So glad we took that wrong turn! Just an amazing night ❤️

2019-02-19Cozy place in the center of town. Nice wait staff. Interesting soup choices and the artichoke dip is out of this world! Great for lunch or just coffee and a snack.
