Sonder Flatiron in New York
Our initial room was on the 9th floor with a king size bed. The room next to us was having a very loud party well after midnight. The walls are paper thin in this Sonder location. The room also has a connecting door to the other room. While we were sitting on the bed waiting to hear back from the staff regarding the room, a couple guys from the room next door walked into our room from that door. Apparently, no one locked that door before we checked in! They finally gave us a different room. This room was much smaller and only had a queen or double sized bed. They refused to adjust the cost of our stay based on us now having a smaller room. Additionally, our bathroom door was difficult to close in the new room and on our last day in NYC we tried to use the luggage locker but the lock was impossible to figure out. The staff member didnt even know how it works. I have rarely complained about hotels, but this wasnt a good experience!
Our stay here was great! The check in and check out process were very easy. The room was perfect for what we were looking for, and the location is amazing. It was so great to stay in a nice and clean place embedded in an NYC neighborhood during our trip. Well definitely be back!
Location is good, the hotel amenities are adequate. The staff are nice, and the cafe on the ground floor is good. However, its not as good as it was. Its under new management, and they closed the rooftop bar. We reserved a room with 2 beds and they gave us a room with 1. So when we got that straightened out, the room they gave us still had the housekeeping staff in it - and they left without putting up a new shower curtain. So we had to call down about that. The carpet in the room had a couple very noticeable, large stains. I couldnt help but wonder how well the room had been cleaned, even ifthose were older.
The worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. We stayed over 5 weeks!!!There are people smoking marijuana in their rooms and the smoke comes through the ventilation and front door. The windows don’t open at all. No fresh air can come in.There are limos parked outside playing loud music every single night. There is a rooftop opposite which plays music all night. There is zero customer service. Nobody helps you in person. The worst. We had staff come into our room and not even tell us before! During covid this is so irresponsible and scary.Avoid this company at all costs.
It was fine. Clean, decent staff, but it was under renovation and that was not communicated to me. Our windows looking out were filthy and one had a huge crack in it. The beds were just okay. Location is fantastic with a great park (Madison square) and good restaurants nearby. I would stay again, but after the renovations are complete...
The hotel is under renovation - after a long flight chose to stay here one night to relax before catching flight home on Sunday. The lobby had no air-conditioning and front staff was clearly not cheerful or welcoming and be aware they charge you an extra $100 in case you do anything to the room? IDK but it will be refunded - so annoying to me when a hotel does this. Mini Bar was empty - room was okay and at least had good ac. I had a King room and it was small - shower leaked all over and it just did not feel clean. The included breakfast is a joke but at least got a banana and cup of coffee.... location is good but stay somewhere else there are so many better hotels!
The room was a decent size, the bed was comfortable and I slept very well. The shower was quite small and I had a horrific time trying to shave. The shelving in the shower wasnt put on correctly and it fell off one night. They have a button system for Do not disturb and requesting housekeeping that shows up as a lighted sign outside, which I thought was pretty cool. They offer you a free drink at the hotel bar for being a guest and they offer continental breakfast.
Terrible stay. The walls were paper thin - you were able to hear all noises coming from the side rooms. The check in process was tedious and I was questioned a few times about “the reason for my stay”, stating “usually we don’t have people with an area code in the same state book our property.” What? The shower stopped working after day one, for Congress us to move into another room that didn’t have the amenities like the first one had. I had to go between both rooms for the rest of my stay. After requesting a partial refund, I didn’t receive anything for three weeks. I reached back out and they said the rep never finished what they had to finish, delaying everything.Wouldn’t recommend.
Im fairly positive all positive reviews were written 1+ year ago, as this place has very clearly gone (way) downhill. After checking in while on a business trip, I was told that the lounge/restaurant/essentially all amenities were permanently closed. I wasnt planning on using them, so although that felt a little odd I didnt mind. My room, however, was the real kicker. The a/c didnt work, so the room was 85+ degrees and humid. In addition, there were hairs all over the bed (both on top of the covers and underneath) and the decor was very dated. There was also a significant amount of water damage on the ceiling. After realizing the a/c was likely unfixable, I asked the hotel to come take a look. They did come to the room promptly, which I appreciated, however they told me there was nothing they could do after fiddling with the temperature control and suggested I just try opening the windows. I asked to move rooms, and they told me they were all booked up. After about 15 more minutes in the room, I realized I wasnt going to be able to get a solid nights sleep, so I went down and checked out, left to find a different hotel at 11pm. Several of my coworkers ended up trying to stick it out, however they quickly discovered that on top of the dated decor and general lack of cleanliness, the TVs in the bathroom mirrors (odd, but thats beside the point...) either only played one channel or didnt turn on at all. In addition, one of them had to move rooms earlier in the day because the smoke alarm in his room was beeping every 10 seconds and they couldnt figure out how to fix it.Oddly enough, the checkout process was the best experience I had throughout my very short stay. The staff was friendly and understanding, and they checked me out right away. Its very clear that they have very little to work with and are doing their best, despite likely feeling defeated. All in all, this place needs some serious help - or they may just want to tear it down and try again.
Very bad experience. The hotel is very old and lack of maintenance. The overall hygiene is bad. Some towels have weird smell. and the carpet is sticky. The first room I checked in. The air conditioner generate very loud noise. They put me into another one. Latter I found out the shower shelf is broken but I dont want to change room again since I unpack all my stuff already.I will choose Motel 6 over this one if I can choose again.
They make no effort to make stay comfortable. The room walls are paper thin and there are not solid doors between rooms. There is no ice, no wrater no nothing l. Your room won’t get cleaned and you won’t get fresh towels which is funny because all you hear all day is housekeeping yell and slam doors in the hallway all day.
I stayed here last year. Room was brilliant! Built in TV in the bathroom mirror (Visible from the jacuzzi tub), electronic flag for service, automatic shades - the whole enchilada. My one big gripe - and why I knocked a star off - is that the windows might as well have not even been there at all. They were so loose, there was absolutely no barrier between the noise, smells and temperature outside. Management: Replace the windows with ones that actually, you know, work, and youve got one heck of a hotel here.
I enjoy this place every time I go there, love the atmosphere and the crowd that comes in. I celebrated my birthday there and the staff was very accommodating and very pleasant to my guest. The food was great and the drinks were top notch. The lounge managers were great and easy going and very attentive. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone staying at a hotel it just wanting to hang at a lounge, they have daily events happening through the week which drew me back to experience them all. Its definitely a spot to check out.
This hotel is nothing like it looks online. The furniture is chipped.. it smells, the hallways are dirty and the manager is no where to be found. We requested a refund by the front desk clerk Kevin of our deposit and he said the computer did not process refunds and he could not call Sally the manager. We sent a email to the manager and have not heard from her/ him yet.If you want a nice, clean classy place to stay avoid this place. It should be a crime that the manager was not able to be contacted to attend to a customer complaint!!
Its a keeperLoved the location. Loved the staff. Loved the breakfast. Loved the happy hour menu.Room temperature was just right and bed was comfortable.Bathroom is a little cramped - wish it had a pocket door to reclaim floor space. Entertainment volume is much to loud for the space.
Walls are paper-thin making it impossible to enjoy any quiet time. The occupants in the neighboring room kept us awake with their blaring TV, loud conversations, coughing, blowing noses, you name it. You hear EVERYTHING. I don’t recommend staying here if you’re planning on doing any sleeping at all during your stay here in NYC. Also, there is no customer service on site. Good luck having complaints handled.
Great value, great experience. We stayed at the Flatiron Sonder for 10 days and very much enjoyed it. The bed is comfortable and the room is clean. The noise issues others have reported were not an issue for us—the only noise we heard were those of the street, and you get those noises regardless of where you stay in Manhattan. The doors are insulated and steel framed, so they keep out a lot of sound and are more sturdy than most hotel doors. Perhaps they have done more sound proofing since the earlier reviews. We stayed in a corner unit. There seem to be only 4-5 rooms on each floor and we only saw other guests a handful of times during our stay.To get more towels and clean bed linens all we had to do was call Sonder and they were delivered to us within 30 minutes. They don’t yet have a regular in-room maid service for turndowns during your stay, but that they were able to get clean towels and linens to us quickly was what really mattered. The essentials closet downstairs has all the coffee, creamer, sugar, TP, etc you could ever need during your stay and there is a keurig in the room which is clutch. No on-site ice machines, but they have a fridge in the room if cold drinks are important to you. There is also a microwave, and for economical lunches/dinners we grabbed some fresh, ready to eat pastas and pizza from Eataly, which is only a block away, and heated those in the room. Location is perfect. Go to Oscar Wilde for drinks after dinner, go to Rezdora and Gramercy Tavern for dinner. All are walking distance from this place. There is also a solid Mediterranean restaurant called Il Fiorista right next door.My wife worked from our room for four days and the WiFi connection was great. Room is too small for two people to work from, but there are cheap coworking spaces not far away if you are traveling with a partner and you both need to work remote and are on lots of calls/meetings that conflict with one another. There is not a better value place to stay in Manhattan. Clean, well-located, and comfortable.
It was a relatively bad experience. Expected more from a NYC hotel. The first night the water wasn’t hot and we kept asking when they will fix it and no response. The safe wasn’t working. We came back around 3:30 pm and they were still cleaning the room. The breakfast was just some bananas, a cup of coffee, and some packaged cereal. Bare in mind that they charge a service fee for no reason. I will give a compliment to the staff though: they are very polite and kind!
To me this is a solid 3 star. It would be unfair to call it a 4 star. Lets start with the rooms: our door was broken so it was hard to close it. The rooms feel old although they were reformed and the heating system is not the best. The breakfast was plain terrible. We had only bread, scrambled eggs and some little things. No fruits of other things. And the hotel has basically no amenities. The location is superb and if you get a nice deal it is well worth it.
Horrible hotel and rude in helpful reception. Ever since new owner has take over this past year, the hotel has gone down the drain. Doesn’t deserve its 4 star rating.I have stayed at the hotel in the past and liked the experience the first time 5 years back. I had to stay in the city overnight with my dog, so I decided to book the hotel again since online it now said they were pet friendly. To double check this was true I called the hotel and booked my room through the phone.Ended up going to the place on the day of my stay and the receptionist said pets aren’t allowed. I had told her about my situation and she didn’t have the answer. I Decided to called the same number again that I had made the reservation through and they were still claiming that the flat iron was pet friendly. So I made the receptionist and the reservation caller talk to each other and both could not come to an agreement. Additionally, Ended up wasting 2 hours in the lobby waiting for the receptionist to make an alternate booking, while she joked around with her co workers and gave me rude faces and attitude. She eventually said she couldn’t find anything and that the manager wasn’t available. We had to book an alternate hotel the night of at double the price because of their own mid communication and poor management.
Cons:- Our room adjacent to a construction site. Construction doesn’t last forever but when jackhammers wake you up around 7am every morning it can be frustrating. This is temporary as construction will end but do yourself a favor & ask about it before booking/checking into your room.- There is a mandatory $20 surcharge per night for WiFi & complementary breakfast. (That makes sense......wait, what?). The breakfast is mediocre at best. Eggs, bread, some fruit & cereal. Presentation is lacking. No meat.- The safe in the room is locked & broken.- Shower leaks into the bathroom which explains all the loose tiles. It also means this has been going on for a long time.- The pictures online are inaccurate. The lobby is dead & there is no restaurant.- Not a big deal but the toilet doesn’t have a lid. Rather it has open faced seat. Leaves me with the fear of impending doom because something could fall into it.- Room is warm & nothing can be done about it.- Staff’s attitude could be described as indifferent. Every interaction leaves me with a strong feeling that he/she simply couldn’t care less.Pros:- Good location.-Room is decent size, our bathroom is as well. Most other baths are smaller.- Room is clean.Overall:Two stars due to location mainly. Our expectations were too high; the gap between expectations & reality is called disappointment. Set your expectations accordingly to basically a 1-2 star hotel & you won’t be disappointed!
No privacy, would not recommend! Poor customer service. The door connecting my room to the room next to me was missing the seal under the door which isolates sound. So there was a one inch open gap on the bottom of the door. If I put my head to the ground, I could look through it and actually see the bed of the other room. But that was minor compared to the lack of noise isolation. I could hear the occupants next to me as if we were in the same room. This made it impossible to do work meetings during the day or sleep at night. I contacted Sonder my first night and they said they would get back to me, but it’s been several days, and they never did. I’ve stayed at Sonders before but after this experience, likely never will again.
My girlfriend and I stayed at the Flatiron Hotel in room 705 to celebrate our one year anniversary on Sunday 1/28 into Monday 1/29.Upon entering, our room was oppressively hot. We immediately opened windows, but we could only slightly crack them open, making no difference in the temperature. We found the thermostat, which read 76 degrees, even though the heat was set to 68. We lowered the thermostat even further to 62, and nothing happened. I changed the thermostat over from heat to cooling, and set the A/C to 62, just to get the room cold as quick as possible, but the vent over the dresser was still blowing scalding hot air. We went to call the front desk but nothing happened, so I went down to the front desk and they said they would send somebody up to help. Someone came, but he didn’t seem to speak English very well. He at first tried to raise the temperature to make the room hotter. After fussing around with it exactly the way I had, he put it back to the same setting I had already had it on, and then stood in the doorway, presumably waiting for a tip. After he left I walked back over and noticed that the thermostat was off now. I turned it back on to cool at 62, and then noticed the temperature had risen from 76 to 78, which was peculiar because it was less than 40 degrees outside. I checked the vent and it was blowing air so hot that the vent was burning hot to the touch. I put the thermostat on to fan mode and left it for the night. We both slept very poorly and by the time we got up in the morning the thermostat had climbed to 80.Everything was hi-tech but useless; there was a remote for the blinds that only closed the far blinds and not the one next to the bed. There was a TV in the mirror but it wasn’t hooked up to anything. There was a button for “MOVIES” on the regular TV, but hitting that button just took me to on-demand cable TV shows. There was a phone in the room and in the bathroom with a button to call the front desk, but I hit that button and nothing happened. The staff was nice but incompetent. We had only gotten the room because I had misread that every room came with a jacuzzi tub (admittedly my fault) and that there was live music in the lounge, but we were thoroughly disappointed by the entire experience at this “luxury hotel”— frustratingly and tedious at worst and unrefreshing at best.To top it all off we found the hotel on the Hotel Tonight app, and we got charged for the room twice, once on the app and once by the hotel. Avoid the app, avoid the hotel, they are both poison and anything good you’ve read about either was a lie.
We stayed there from a Thursday thru Tuesday. The staff were all very nice and helpful. The hotel, dirty carpet in our room, torn furniture in the lounge, where they do breakfast and evening music, 2 out of 5 days we had no towels and had to ask for them. TV in the mirror was not hooked up, why have it? One day right after housekeeping was done, I managed to step on a piece of broken glass, and the rooftop lounge was closed, they did not know how long. I feel the pictures are way off. Would never stay there again!
I have never written any bad reviews before, however I felt like I have to for this horrible hotel.Worst experience ever. Very poor customer service. Quality of rooms was not as advertised.Curtain remote, bathroom light, and shower were not working properly. We asked to change rooms and the second room had the same issues. We called reception and were ignored. We had to check out early and they did not agree to refund us. The manager was very rude and has no customer service experience.I do not recommend this hotel to anyone. Avoid it at all costs.
Wish I could give zero stars. Music was 70 decibels IN my room from the lobby band. Was promised it would be turned down and it would be over by 11:30 but theyre louder now and still playing and its 1:00am despite multiple requests to quiet down. Pounding headache and no sleep. No other rooms. Tried to find another hotel but nothing available nearby that allows pets and we are traveling with our dog. No hotel manager on duty. Rude and inept front desk staff. Computers down all afternoon and evening so no keys to room. Have to wait for someone to let us in every time we leave room. Lobby smelled like marijuana when only people there were staff. Terrible terrible. Have never written a scathing review before but this place deserves it. Horrible treatment from staff. Basically they knew they were renting us a room directly above where the band plays and it would be LOUD and they didnt care. So loud in our room. Unbelievable.
Went to the hotel prior to check in time and was told check in was 4 and no rooms were available until then. They did store our bags for us and gave us a claim check. When we arrived back to the hotel at 10pm after walking around the city all day, we were told that our confirmed room with 2 queen beds is now a full/queen bed. Tried to explain that wouldn’t work for us and wanted the room we paid for. Were told that the rooms usually are gone by 6pm. We were offered our money back which we could then go to another hotel, which were going for $800-$900 for the night. I explained that they had to accommodate us and couldn’t just put us on the street. I then called Priceline who ended up finding another hotel for us and refunded us some of the cost, still working on that issue. The attendant informed us they had 36/38 room instead of the 60+ they advertise. The pictures are not current at all. Looks very run down upon arrival and not updated at all.
My experience reflected a big gap between how this hotel markets itself versus reality. It says its a luxury hotel in online descriptions. Not! Its a tourist class, worn-down property. It felt unkempt and sketchy. Its not kept up, so if you expect attention to detail, not your hotel. In my room the carpet was so stained, spotted and had an odor...I put towels down to walk on. I pulled back the bottom sheet to check for bedbugs, and human hair was everywhere. The housekeeper was very nice and swapped the mattress pad, all bedding and vacummed around the headboard. The walls in my room were a slick, shiny saffron yellow finish...covered in smudges and hand prints. The bathroom had broken vertical blinds (no privacy), so I asked three times for it to be fixed and a houseman hung towels in the window on a third request. Badically the front desk listens to what you say, then does nothing. The breakfast that was included was available only after 7:30am (and not good quality) so if you needed to leave earlier there wasnt even any service(?) nor a credit for having zero available to eat. The city was sold out so I had no choice, and paid $450 a night, when the avg rate here is about $120 I imagine. The hotel is a bit of a dive and the lobby has a very awkward, grunge-lounge feel with a rickety bandstand off to the side. For a certain traveler this may be a fun, no-frills 1990s remodeled hotel. For business, families or meetings -- gosh no!!! I shared my concerns with the hotel while there and never received a response during my stay.
BEWARE! Read this review before booking this hotel. This is NOT a 4 star hotel, I repeat, NOT A FOUR STAR HOTEL! It is closer to what I would imagine a 1-2 star hotel would be like. It was by far the absolute worst hotel experience I have ever had( if I thought my previous worst was bad, this hotel made that one look like the Plaza). The Flatiron set the bar at an entirely new low.My boyfriend and I booked our room the morning of our stay based entirely on the pictures shown online and the fact that this was listed as a 4 star hotel, this was a huge mistake. We booked the king room which according to the website was roomy, bright and clean, with fresh flowers and a stately bathroom featuring a jetted bathtub, in a hotel listed as having been built in 2011. That was all a charade because the building is dark and old and the pictures online are not at all an actuate representation of what the hotel actually looks like.Let’s start with check in, we arrived at the hotel between 12:30-1PM, the “lobby” should have been a dead giveaway to what we were walking into. First, there is a large dirty fish tank in the middle of the room, the water is cloudy and the fish look like they are dying. To the right there is an area with dated window treatments and old restaurant booths sporadically placed around the room. This is confusing because there is no restaurant and “breakfast” (we will talk about this in a second) is “grab and go”. To the left is the check in area, consisting of ratty old mis-matched furniture and a counter in the corner that serves as their “front desk”. This area was filthy, and standing behind those piles of papers, boxes and wires stood our first encounter with the Flatiron’s awful customer service. As we entered and approached the desk, this woman did not greet us, welcome us, or even smile. We said hello and gave her our name, but without even checking, she told us that our room was not ready yet and would not be for awhile. This seemed odd because the lobby was empty, and the hotel was eerily quiet, (this was the case for the majority of our 3 night stay, as we never saw or heard anyone on our floor and only saw 2-3 others in the lobby) so I am not sure how they did not have a room ready, but OK. The woman said they would hold our bags in their baggage area (this is listed as an amenity on their website) and we could come back to check in later. After a morning of traveling, this was a little annoying, but we tagged our bags and left. We went to lunch and a quick museum and by 3PM, we assumed the room would be ready, so we called to ask. WRONG! The same rude woman answered the phone and in an annoyed tone, told me that our room would not be ready until at least 4. At this point, we are tired, frustrated, and just want to relax before our evening plans, but we are able to kill another hour walking around. When we returned to the hotel, the rude woman reluctantly checks us in, and to my horror I noticed that our bags are still sitting exactly where we left them in front of the desk! I assume this means that they don’t have a bag room because our bags just sat out in the sketchy lobby for hours. There was no porter/bell hop to help us with our bags(as listed online), so we grabbed our luggage, took our keys and headed to our room via the dilapidated elevator. This elevator was as scary as it was disgusting. The kind of elevator that you hold your breath on, not only because it is so dirty, but because you think that if you breathe it may stop working and you will be stuck in it forever. The elevator also does not have key access, so anyone can wander off of the streets and onto the guest floors. Upon exiting the elevator, we stepped into a dirty, dark hallway that was straight out of a horror movie. Dim lighting, cobwebs, dirty old carpet, paint chipping off of the walls, the whole works. We get to our room and open the door, and it gets, if possible, worse. With a loud bang, the door slams behind us(because
Staff members are ultra professional and so good at making our bridal party feel special. I gave the hotel a four because although knowing the amount of room attendees we had to ask for more towels and ice came loooooong after we asked for it and when we arrived the duvet was stained. Other than that every other request was quickly seen to and theyre so friendly!!
My boyfriend was staying here because he was working an event nearby, so I decided to stay with him since it would be closer for me to commute to work in the morning. After reading all these two-star reviews, I was really nervous about staying here, afraid of what I might find. After staying here, I can confirm that it is two stars, but it wasnt as bad as I thought it would be. Here is some of the good/bad:Pros:Location - located right in between the 23rd and 28th St RW train stationsClean enough - I think everything was just very old, which made it feel not the cleanest but overall, it was fineCons:Old - everything needs updating. It seems like they renovated the bathroom a few years ago but the rooms need some work. Those musty mustard curtains have got to goOur door was wonky - it made it hard to open/close. Made me wonder if someone could have just kicked it downIm from NYC but if I were a visitor, I dont think I would want to stay here. I think my biggest issue was that everything was just super old/outdated and didnt feel cozy (or as cozy as a hotel room could feel) at all.
This would have been a better place, but they added frills that they didnt quite pull off. They offer free wifi, but they didnt put in enough access points so some rooms are devoid of any signal while others have full service. The shower was damaged and the wall had dents from the door. The front desk guy directed me to a breakfast place door the block, but failed to note it was closed for renovations. The TV channels seem random as some premium channels are available, but some basic channels are not. The music from the bar could be easily heard on the seventh floor, although it was not too loud to sleep through. The rooms were quite nice and finally a place that understands what a firm mattress is. If everything worked it could have been a 4 star, but my experience was a solid 3.5.
My recent stay did not meet the expectations of a 4-star hotel. The check-in customer service was lacking, but I figured the person was new, as he was receiving help from someone else during the check-in. The stay was horrible. It was an exceptionally warm day in the city. We turned on the AC, left the room to explore, returned after a few hours and realized it was blowing hot air. I called the front desk several times and got a busy signal. I went downstairs, the receptionist was chatting away with another employee ignoring the phone. I tell him that the AC is not working properly. He says he’ll call me to help when I go back to my room. After about 5-7 minutes he calls and says the maintenance guy says the HVAC is not working and that I should just open a window. He offered to come up to open the window for me, gee thanks but no thanks. I open the window, there was a breeze that helped a little. As the night went on the temp rose to 80F, my partner goes to complain about the temp and was told to talk to the manager in the morning. At the same time, someone else was checking in and heard his complaint. My issue with this is that we were not told about the AC situation at check-in as it seems every one of the employees knew except the guests. During check-out, we voiced our concerns to the receptionist and she stated there was nothing she could do since we booked with a third-party. She only offered a credit for a future booking. Needless to say, we’ll never stay at this hotel again. It is in a great location, but customer service is extremely horrible and the rooms are small. The refrigerator also did not work.
I stayed in the Flatiron Hotel for 2 weeks for a work trip. After nearly $4,000 later, I ended up having to extend my stay through for an extra day and did so through my original booking on Hotwire. The day before my initial check-out date, I stopped by the front desk offering to pay the $30 daily resort fee and ensure I would not have to check out and check back in, and that I could keep the same room. The woman told me I did not have to put another card down, and that the fee would come out of the initial hold on my card. She took a note down and said it would be there for the staff the next day.... LUCKILY a friend was in the room the next day when security came to my door threatening to throw her out and that I was supposed to check out by 11. WHAT WOULD THEY HAVE DONE IF SHE HADNT BEEN THERE? Never once did they try to contact me, my friend was frantically calling me at work. When I eventually called the hotel, they made me leave work early and come immediately to put a credit card down, pay the fee, and sign a paper. After the money that I spent here and the steps I took to ENSURE that this didnt happen I am appalled at how myself and my friend were treated and THREATENED. Never once did I receive an apology. I did what I could, I imagine if she hadnt been there I would have come home to my stuff thrown out. I highly suggest you find somewhere else to stay.
If you are reading this before booking scape from this choice! Booking sales this option as continental beakfast included but we were cheated, both of them responsible Booking and the hotel, there are a few and scarcey cold options to take away, nothing to eat apart from children cereals with lots of sugar, cold coffe milk, anything related to a continental beakfast. Other guests related this but Booking still shows this option when you select a hotel beakfast included, so we found other guests like us very frustated. Moreover the windows are very old so there is a lot of noise at the room, traffic and constructions in front of the hotel caused very high noise level, so we couldnt sleep at all although I usually am not very sensible to noises but that was too much , and there is a very cold wind entering by the old windows. The bed was small, the bedroom needed reparations and manteinance. People attending were not nice, and the charge 100 deposit that is not returned until some days after departure. We sincerely recomend you to choose an other option
Great location. Free parking for the weekends in front of the hotel. Near everything except for Time Square(about 30mins. walk). Staff was fine. The room looks better on a picture than in real life. It was clean but not that clean. The building is old obviously. I don’t think they have a valet and no indoor parking. The bathroom was renovated but the rest no. In the bathroom, there’s a mirror with a tv screen on it. If you are short like me (5”2), you can’t use that mirror since the tv square would not go away. Extremely small bathroom and shower. The walls are made thin. So everytime when someone’s take a shower, you could hear it. Also, you could hear your neighbors. The breakfast they serve in the morning is a cold breakfast so don’t expect thinking of having breakfast there. Overall, great location to stay when you’re in NY.
I found this hotel looking for something that was a little removed from the bustle of Times Square. This hotel seemed to fit the bill. I was travelling with my wife and we were very pleasantly surprised. The hotel is small but it is very, nice. We had a king room. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was very modern and updated, with rain/massage shower and a television in the mirror. I was there in February and it was very cold but the heater in the room worked fast and great. The entertainment in the lobby was wonderful. If you like jazz you will be in heaven. The food and drinks in the restaurant (Toshis Livingroom) was very good and not outrageously priced. The staff was very polite and helpful and the hotel itself is located close to everything (metro, restaurants, shopping, etc...) This is definitely a new favorite of mine and I look forward to returning.
Right in the center it all, great location and helpful stuff. Rooms are clean and overall excellent experience. Don’t be fooled by a breakfast, because it’s going to a Apple and cereal from cup with coffee, but that is not the reason you are staying in this hotel anyway.
It feels look there was an expensive effort to modernize this place many years ago, and then hasnt been maintained since. The furniture all has a lot of wear around the edges. The bathtub Jets were noisy and ineffective. The old single pane windows dont insulate well. The phone in my room didnt work, but the second in the bathroom (without the feature buttons) did. The lcd panel that serves as your housekeeping/do not disturb is an ever present blue nightlight right next to the bed. Several various light switches seemed to have no function, and the motorized curtains had to be opened and closed manually by dragging on the curtains themselves. It looks like theres some sort of lcd screen built into the mirror, but I couldnt figure out how to turn it on. Theres a second lcd panel in the bathroom that was on but non responsive. Oh yeah, and when I checked in, they gave me a key to the wrong room. Im just glad the other guest wasnt in their room. All in all, its a good looking place that just needs a little attention. I fear quality, however, is on a downward trajectory.
Nothing to like about this hotel. I pray someone reads this review before booking. I never write reviews but this is a must. The room I received (rm.302) allegedly came with a jetted tub. The jets didnt work. I was given another room (rm 702) higher up 3 out of six jets worked. The tv in the mirror did not work. Total nightmare!!!!!!! If you book a room for what is offered you expect to get all that is advertised. Not the case here. Spend a little more and go a little further if you really want to enjoy yourself. The whole shower rod fell down and hit me on the head. When I reported it to the man a the front podium, not desk, his response was oh sorry. That is so unacceptable. There is no contact information for corporate. So I will dispute the charge for this room and maybe someone will care then. This place really SUCKS!!!!!
The hotel was...okay. heat didnt work in the room, so they gave us a space heater that wasnt quite enough to heat the room where we wanted it, bit made it just comfortable enough. The shower system didnt work entirely (the top portion from the ceiling wasnt operational). Breakfast was substandard at best, and poorly executed at worst - its a continental breakfast but made to order.....from 4 very simple choices, of which one was toast. We ordered some toast, and it was, once again, lukewarm at best, mildly cold at worst. It also took about 15 minutes for a small portion of scrambled eggs and bacon to come out. Theres also a 20 dollar hotel service fee, which isnt given to you until you check in. The amount of service we got wasnt anything special. Theres a nightclub in the lobby, so if you check in late at night, its loud, you cant really hear the receptionist, and its not exactly welcoming, especially because the live musical talent was, again, substandard at best, just plain bad at worst. We were on the 4th floor far away from the elevators, and we couldnt hear it at night, but once you walked to the elevator shaft it was rather loud. I would have not been pleased if our room was closer to the elevators. The room itself was nice enough, small but large enough for what is expected in NYC. It wasnt terrible, but wasnt great by any means, and certainly wasnt a 4 star, maybe not even a 3 star experience. I will not be staying at this hotel again, as there are many better options to choose from in the flatiron district alone, let alone other desirable areas in the city.
This hotel is not a 4 stars hotel at all. Noticed that the duvet on the bed was dirty from someone else before, the bed was pretty old and broken in some parts, the staff isn’t friendly at all, and the fact that the restaurant/bar service isn’t working makes it look like an ‘abandoned’ hotel. Also, the key stopped working too often, making us going up and down to swap the card. Too many bad things.
No hotel room safe. Hotel room door doesnt close by itself, needs to be pushed. Shower curtain not secure. No toilet brush, or toilet lid to sit on. No ironing board. Do not disturb buttons are on a bright LED display panel, lights up the room at night. Small towels. TV remote doesnt work from across the room. Air-con broken, was replaced with noisy box in middle of room with exhaust poked out of the window, gaps in window stuffed with towels. Single glazed windows means its not quiet. On Friday night and Saturday night the bar was closed - not buzzy. No breakfast to speak of. Receptionist issued me with an additional room card without confirming my ID, I only gave the room number.
Our stay was not bad, however, I do agree that this is NOT a 4-Star hotel. It’s old and outdated and not that clean. They don’t offer a real/hot breakfast (just coffee, cereal and apples mostly) or any other food or drink. It doesn’t seem like they keep the basics stocked like towels, tissues in the bathroom, etc. Would not recommend
Do NOT stay at this hotel. The internet was down for 6 days. It was still not fixed when I left. To make matters worse, every staff member at the front desk was very rude. I invited a client to a lunch meeting only to find out that the kitchen was closed. How is this possible? The staff offered no apology, no recommendations to nearby cafes that I could go to as an alternative. Just a rude notice that the kitchen was closed that day. The HVAC in the rooms were also poor. It would be either super hot or super cold at night.
DO NOT STAY HERE, IT IS NOT A FUNCTIONING HOTEL. Booked this hotel for January 2020. Arrived at hotel to find it was completely under construction and there was no entry point. We tried calling the hotel number and found it was disconnected. We ended up calling the number pasted to the worksite door and construction worksite manager advised that he had nothing to do with the hotel administration but he suggested we may have been transferred to the ‘Pennsylvania hotel’ (no correspondence had been received about this). We called the Pennsylvania hotel and they knew nothing about this. They had no record of our reservation and were very confused. We were left without a hotel and ended up having to walk around and find another hotel and book in person. Terrible experience and still have not had any correspondence from the Flatiron hotel. We are hoping they do not charge our card, but regardless we have no way to contact them to tell not to.
Me and my wife had the worst experience ever at this hotel. we booked a 1 night getaway for our anniversary, and over the phone while making the reservation we were offered a high floor room, breakfast, robes and slippers, which none of this was given to us. also the lady at the front desk when we were checking in was extremely rude to us. she wasnt even looking at us, she handed a sticky note to us with the amount she was going to charge on my credit card and refused to talk to us. when she did it was to tell me that my card got declined. i explained to her that it must have been a mistake and to try the card again to which she refused by saying i cant try this card again... you have to give me a different card. i told her to try again and the card when trough, to which she said... oh it work (all of this with an attitude) and she never apologized for the mistake made by her. after all of this she handed us an envelope with the keys to the room and said thats it. i told her that i didnt know where the room was at and asked for directions to get to the room ( almost 50 minutes in this whole process) and she said oh elevator are over there. me and my wife go to the room and a few minutes after i call the reception to order a bucket with ice and 2 glasses which took them almost 1 hour to deliver.... while waiting for the ice, i called the reception to ask how to close the window since the remote wasnt working, and when she answered the phone, without me taking she said sir i will send that ice but you are going to have to give me some minutes. this treatment is plain simple unacceptable, i expected so much more from this place, they are advertising things to get customers and once they have the card information they treat you like an animal. i dont give a 0 because the minimum is 1 star.
My stay at Flatiron was fairly pleasant. The customer service was excellent and the room was nice. My only concern was with the HVAC. While we were visiting, the HVAC was out and our room was around 82 degrees during the entire stay. We tried everything we could to fix it and cool the room but it did not work.
First the nice things - beds are firm and nice showers. But had to give it 2 stars because -1. they know theres 4 of us and they always give us 3 towels, 2. no WIFI. I have not been to a hotel that doesnt have a wifi so this is a big deal. 3. service is slow. takes a long time to get service.
Arrived at the hotel late to checkin. Associate in the lobby informs me that the HVAC system was on a winter cycle so the AC wouldnt work in the rooms. She said its a little warm, about 75 like here in the lobby. It was 85 degrees in the lobby and I was raining sweat just standing there. When I asked if they had fans for the rooms, the associate mentions that they were out and it was first come first served. Gave me complete attitude when clearly the hotel was failing to serve its clientele. I refused to checkin and walked out. Never going back.
Youre probably looking at this hotel right now for two reasons, cheap prices and great location. Both are true, but be aware that rooms are noisy and dirty, building is old (elevator doesnt work sometimes and our AC units broke for 24 hours during summer) and the staff is very rude to keep hearing these complaints all the time.If you still want go ahead because of maybe the nice aquarium for the kids, that area is closed for renovation. So, if you have another option, dont stay here.
Friendly staff, free wine 5-6pm for hotel guests, great location. The big private loud parties in the lobby and on the top floor are an interesting feature; if youre on a middle floor shouldnt be a noise problem. The room windows facing the street are very large and thin, so you will hear street noise no matter what.
The staff here may have been some of the most rude unfriendly and unprofessional People I’ve ever come across running a hotel. This entire hotel is about to close pretty soon for a full makeover and redo as the previous owners went bankrupt and it took them almost a year to find new owners which just happened a little while ago. Amazing location, but what a dump of an establishment
The worst hotel of my life. Terrible customer service. The staff it’s awful. The rooms are in bad conditions - telephones not working, water leaking, lights you cant turned off, no internet service in the room.after changing my room 3 times in one day because of all the above mentioned problems, it’s imp to mentioned that when I asked for help from management they never reply, contacted me or offered any kind of incentive for being moved 3 times and the last time in the middle of the night.Just awful and terrible place. Don’t stay there! It will ruin your stay.
A slightly tired, extremely well located hotel suitable for business and vacation travelers alike. Very comfortable beds and linens, the jetted showers were a nice touch too. Breakfast starts too late (0730), and front desk staff were indifferent. It wouldnt take much to take this hotel from ok to great.
I’ll suggest booking elsewhere, I booked and paid a room since January for a stay during October, only to find out the day of my trip, landing at the airport that the hotel was closed for a complete remodeling and they couldn’t accommodate us, but they could make a reservation at another hotel, the penn hotel, when i got to the penn hotel the front desk attendant told me, that someone called to make a reservation on my behalf but I had to pay for the whole stay, which it’s absurd considering that wasn’t my fault and I had paid my reservation since the beginning of the year. So quite a welcome to NYC. I would never be doing business with this people and my suggestion; look elsewhere for your upcoming stay in New York.
I stayed here two years ago the vib was definitly different. The rooms were clean enough and the staff was niceHowever the guy standing at the bell stabd or concierge did not speak i foubd that odd and off puttingThe morning comp breakfast was badAnd looked a little unsanitary.Definitly will not book here again
Staff on reception were really unhelpful and rude. When I checked out they charged me $19 per night for breakfast and free water on the lobby (its called a service fee and applies to everyone) but no one told me this when I checked in so I didnt know that breakfast was included so I paid for breakfast elsewhere every day. Would not recommend.
Surprise: Restaurant and Bar on first floor were CLOSED. No nightly entertainmemt on the first floor nor room service were available.Throughout the stay, the afternoon/evening/night desk clerk Nesha was very rude, condescending, openly and unabashedly unhelpful, and even argumentative.Mini-Fridge in room was not usable the entire time, despite calling front desk on five occasions to have it “fixed.” Nice guy tried to fix it by getting it to open, but then it would revert right back to being locked each time. I had to buy a cooler with ice, plus the drinks and snacks, and bring everything back up to hotel room. Very inconvenient. Most appalling was the attitude of the front desk girl. When we asked for an alternative suggestion for food delivery since the restaurant was closed, she said she had none. Then, when I asked if there was maybe restaurants close by that might deliver or a grocery delivery service company, she said (in similar or same words) “I don’t know. Just look online yourself.”When I asked for a change of sheets, one sheet was FINALLY delivered to the room. When I called fromt desk, this girl raised her voice at me and said “You only asked for one sheet!” Ummmm, no, actually... And she interrupted “Yes you did!” in an angry tone.Unbelievably inhospitable and rude.Is this hotel going to close soon and nobody cares how rude some of the staff is? The emails returned prior to our stay were never signed with a name either btw. They only say “the flatiron team.” So, you have no clue who is emailing you or whom to follow up with. ZERO ACCOUNTABILITY among the front desk staff and management here. Very, very strange. All together, this was a very disappointing experience, especially for Manhattan where most people in the service industry are professionals and take pride in providing guests a pleasant experience.I have called and left messages four times since departing then emailed the front desk manager, Laurel, and supposed GM, Candice, five times now over a 3 week period and have received ZERO response. How BIZARRE.And..... Where is “TOSHI” in all of this?!??
I think it is outrageous that a hotel would charge people money to stay there when they play live music so loud that you cannot sleep in your room!It would have been nice to know this before I stayed here, I would have made a different decision about my accommodation and I certainly will not stay here again. Also - they claim to have WIFI but the signal is terrible and it constantly cuts out.Very disappointed.
In a single word - TERRIBLE!Avoid this Hotel!I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. In all my years traveling and staying at hotels the customer service at this hotel was the worst I have ever experienced. There are many great hotels in NYC, dons waste your time and money staying at this one. After being assured that the operations manager would call me immediately it has been a week and he has not contacted me yet.
Location, location, location! This has it! This hotel is located right off of 26th street and Broadway. You walk a few blocks and youre looking at the Flatiron building! Union Square is over in this area and its a short walk to the 28th street and 23rd street stations which means you can be on a train and uptown or downtown in minutes! Staff was very friendly! I would stay here again and again!
Horrible customer service, unprofessional employees. My uncle Raphael Johnson called to cancel a reservation due to a family emergency and the woman who picked up the phone pretended to not hear him after she heard his name. After several times of calling *from different phones and the lady still pretending to not hear we finally got her to talk to us, she ignored our request and told him if he didnt want to get charged he could call Expedia after calling Expedia the representative told us that the cancel fee would be no charge but the woman at Flatiron that wouldnt give the representative her name told her that shes charging the full amount. My uncle called Flatiron back and they lied and said Expedia was lying and that Expedia are the ones charging. After asking for her name she blocked both me and my uncles numbers and still ended up charging his credit card. Im disgusted by their service and this hotel should find new employees. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!

2022-01-05I loved loved loved my stay here. Love that everything from the reservation to the check out is done by phone, they give you a code and you’ll be able to do everything you need with that code and the app. CASEY was AMAZING!!! She took our stay to another level and she’s a big part of the reason why I’m writing this review. Also I have to mention that the location of this place was perfect! ♥️ will be back

2022-03-30Not sure how to leave stars for this place, it could be a one or five really. There were good and bad things.Good-Large room with great decor, and massive windows and great view.Ive stayed in 60+ NYC hotels and this was one of the best rooms Ive had-Decent check in process-Sensible value for money-Great coffeeBad- The WORST soundproofing ever. Does this company have ANY idea how to make a hotel room? You could hear EVERYTHING in the room next to us. Like people breathing. This is a critical flaw they somehow overlooked- No key. Yes, this is a tech loving company so you have to either remember and type rapidly a 7 button code each time you do anything or open an app and wait 5 seconds and wait another 5 seconds and you can then hold a phone to a button and press it. Just give me a goddamm key. NOTE- You need to do this when using the elevator to leave too, which makes zero sense unless you just enjoy trapping guests inside.-Messy communication, got told my room 3 times on different emails, text messages dont seem to thread with emails, so had no idea what was going on.

2022-03-16Great location with walking distance to everything midtown and the village. Subway station is 1 block from the building too. Rooms were clean, though there was a fair bit of street noise from the 10th floor but I guess that’s what’s to be expected given the location. They did provide earplugs and a white noise machine. I used the white noise machine each night to drown out the street noise and that helped! The rooms are a decent size and come with a microwave, mini fridge, coffee machine and glasses/mugs/wine opener. One of rooms came with a kitchenette, which was a bit more expansive but definitely not a full kitchen so keep this in mind. We knew this going in and for the price, you can’t beat the location but always be mindful that location also comes with day to day city noise.

2022-06-02Excellent location, modern, clean rooms but quite noisy. I can hear the people in the next room cough, watch TV or shower and the sound from the rather busy road (the hotel is on a side street of Broadway) can be loud late at night. The hotel does provide a white noise machine and ear plugs to help with that.

2022-03-24This is the worst hotel in Manhattan. They don’t even have towels in the room. Also they have no check in process - if you want things - like a towel to shower with - you apparently need to use this mysterious app no one can tell me how to get - don’t waste your money - I’m glad I’m not here with my wife on vacation - it would have been horrible

2022-03-16Location is everything especially in NYC! Perfectly situated in the heat of the big apple - many restaurants and stores plus near the subway. I highly recommend Sonder with a homelike feel, coffee, microwave refrigerator and comfy new linens!

2021-12-29There is next to no staff here. The security at the door can only give you the text and phone numbers for some central call center. Text and phone take 30 minutes plus to get any kind of response. You are better off roaming the halls until you find a sympathetic staff person to help you. Or better yet, save yourself the aggravation and get a real hotel. The room and location arent bad, but god forbid you need assistance. The lack of any kind of service makes Sonder a poor choice for a hotel stay.

2022-01-23Rooms clean and nice and decently noise-isolated from other rooms. However, I was on the 10th floor and there was still a fair bit of noise from the street, even in the middle of the night. You may need earplugs. On a lower floor I imagine it can get super bad. To an extent this is just a function of being in central NYC.Also not this is not in the flatiron building, which photos lead you to believe.Checkin/out was frictionless.

2022-02-02I really enjoyed my stay at Sonder Chambers (near Central Park) so when my trip in NY was extended, I decided to book Sonder Flatiron but was incredibly disappointed- Absolutely no ventilation (windows dont open at all)- When i was trying to reserve room cleaning through the app, all dates were marked unavailable so my room did not get cleaned for a week.- For some reason theres a gap between the bathroom door and the floor so when i take a shower longer than 10min, half of my room gets flooded- There are no ceiling lights and only three very dim lamps, one of which kept flickering so it was unusable- While the Chambers one had a water dispenser in the mezzanine, this one did not- There is no proper lobby or front staff, just a guy that sits in a chair on the first floor but is vacant most of the time- I can very easily hear noise from outside the room (not outdoors, but the hallway)- For some reason you need to type in your passcode to go down to the lobby, which is kind of unnecessary (There were several times where I had to enter the passcode in front of someone else on the elevator, which was incredibly uncomfortable)- The door lock (passcode) sometimes didnt work. I had to enter the passcode several times for the door to successfully open

2021-12-15It’s affordable considering it’s location! Seconds away from 5th avenue and in the middle of Manhattan. However, minimal amenities (no ice, no clean towels daily, no housekeeping service daily, no microwave, small bathroom, the bedding wasn’t appropriate to bed, elevators suck and are scary)Buuuut, at the price point, considering the convenience, especially if you’re hitting all the tourist spots, you can’t beat it.Remember, y’all get what you pay for!
