Sonora in other cities:
Been here a long time ago had to go back & still going to come back best tequila I ate half a scorpion & the whole caterpillar? Idk 🤷🏼♀️ gotta live great guacamole they make it in front of you I just wish they had more authentic Mexican food not just mostly tex mex style I wanna feel like im in Mexico🤨🙏🏼
I loved the decor! The menu choices are great and there are dessert options. There is a large screen television on the back wall. The restaurant can accommodate larger party sizes. There was a group by my with about seven people. Outside seating is available. My tofu burrito was very good. The French fries are homemade. The chips and salsa are on the house and were also good. Ill definitely be back.
The drinks were great. Inexpensive and full of liquor, tasted great. The atmosphere was live, not a lot of people on a Friday but you could hear laughs, conversations, a good time. The food on the other hand was missing something. My wings came out close to cold, the banana leaf chicken I ordered need salt, but they couldnt find the table salt. The fajita was good but something in the taste was missing. I would go back just for the happy hour.
This restaurant has a great food and drink menu with plenty of options, and serves delicious, authentic Mexican food. Brunch is phenomenal with top shelf liquor and delicious cocktail options. The staff is professional and friendly, it feels like I’m at home every time I come here. Kya is an incredibly kind and attentive waitress, AND she has nice eyebrows (so I know I can trust her lol). I look forward to recommending this place to others, celebrating my birthday here, and will return again and again🙌🏾
I first came to this place on Tuesday for their one dollar taco Tuesday and loaded up on delicious tacos and margs. Then came back the same week on Friday to try their bigger plates. I was amazed again! I’ve never really been a local at any restaurant in my life but this place will be the start!Service was a bit slow for our second round of drinks we had to ask for them three times. Aside from that I had a really great experience and already excited to come back for a third time!
Sonora is a find! This culinary resource for Bushwick and Bed-Stuy has great interior decor, attentive service, and local delivery for their authentic Latin menu and diverse range of dishes. With multiple margaritas to choose from and a selection of local beers on tap, the beverage selection matches the menu in its range and opportunity for food pairings. Look up terms you may not be familiar with and try something new.
Not bad, wouldnt say best ever. Ordered in a group and the chicken and waffles didnt come out until everyone else had finished their meals. Waffle maker wasnt working so they replaced it with french toast. Chicken came out dry and the french toast looked more like a huge brick.
A very rustic and nice eatery in the neighborhood, however, I didnt care for my drink or the shredded chicken flour tortillas I ordered. I found that what we ordered had no type of flavor to it...at all. Very bland indeed. Since I am in the business of watching my sodium intake, I was fine with it but highly surprised.I may try it once again before I write it off completely. I like that its in walking distance from my home big plusOn...just an FYI if you can see the glass in the pic with a red liquid inside that was a house Sangria for $15. In the little baby glass. Another surprise. These prices can be a tad pricey sometimes. I understand.
Came here on a Saturday and reallly enjoyed the day. My friend and I JUST made it before brunch was over and thank God we did cuz I was hungry lol. I ordered the chicken and waffle which was delish. My friend ordered steak and eggs which he says was good as well. For $45 with unlimited Mimosas or Sangria was definitely worth it. The bartender (I wish I caught her name) was awesome. It seemed they were a little short staffed but she definitely held it down. I will definitely pass by this spot again. I enjoyed my experience!
Y’all this place is awesome! I’m an absolute taco snob and the soft corn tacos here are delicious. In the picture below I ordered the El Pastor and Carnitas taco. The salsa verde on the side is beyond expectations, I could eat a vat of it.I also got a House Margarita and it was so strong and so good. I will 100% be spending my summer at Sonora.
I apologize for being a bit long, but its worth the read, I promise. I dont like to do this, but I have to be honest, I give the wait staff, 2 out of 10. The bar, 3 out of 10. The drinks would of been good if they were just sold as a cold drink because it seriously lacked alcohol, but the flavor was good, again I would of gladly paid 5-7 dollars for my drink if it was sold as a juice, but it was disappointing as an alcoholic beverage. I give the chefs 2.5 out of 10, and thats only because they managed to put food on a plate, but wow. I found myself at the table adding ingredients to try correct some of their mistakes. Back to the wait staff, I couldnt get their attention because the waitresses in my section was too busy caught in the flashy lights of another patron with flashy jewelry, and if I have one thing that really takes me over the top, I asked for my food to go, And they decided what to put in the To go container, so I came home with half of my plate. 2 thumbs, 10 toes, and 2 elbows down overall. 👎👎
Stopped by this establishment as it was on my list of restaurants to check out. Despite arriving at a non busy time, the restaurant was lively and full of energy as a local soccer game played on the screen. The bartender, Javi, was professional and chill. He took my order of Beef Quesadilla which was ready in less than five minutes and made me a Passionfruit Margarita. Both were delicious. Some of the locals came by and talked to Javi and you tell that the restaurant is the spot to be at for a Friday or Saturday night.I will definitely go back again. 0 Complaints.
Okay I need to update yall on this place because I was mislead. Their website is not up to date, super limited menu (food n drink). Its a walk up and order at counter type of spot. The frozen margarita needed tequila. We ended up buying tequila from a local liquor store to put in the drinks. We ordered the fish tacos and fish n chips.... Umm, the fish was mush. It is perfect for an old folks home or someone with no teeth. The fries were swimming in oil. The tacos were $5 each and there was barely anything in the taco for it to be worth $5.Overall, do not bother with this place. Straight trash.
The menu offers a wide variety of authentic Mexican choices. Tasty and well seasoned.. The fish and other tacos are always fresh and filled with the perfect amount of zesty ingredients.. The portions generous.. The owner is present, hard working and really personable. Several frozen Margeritta options are available. Mango, my favorite was satisfying. The atmosphere is rustically decorated with a cool mix of modern and Mexican style. Enjoyed both outdoor and pre covid intimate indoor seating. Always a good variety of music is played over the sound system. Lively and fun. I will return again and again.
Very good tacos, double shell is a great idea. Really liked the mojitos, staff was great and welcoming. When i got the bill, i found a few items were a dollar or two more than they were listed in the menu, not sure if it was my mistake or theirs. i was too Canadian and too happy with the food to complain. Hope they get their pricing sorted out but the food is totally on point and worth the visit. Would definitely go again !
Very nice atmosphere. Drinks was a little weak. Frozen margarita with sangria. Shrimp burrito was excellent. Guacamole and chips was very good. husband had grilled salmon with coconut rice and vegetables that was very good. His strawberry mojito was excellent next time Im going back to get that. Love that is 10 minute walk from my house.
It’s a beautiful and cozy place to go with friendly staff. We got free chips that tasted good with a mouthwatering salsa that I loved. I ordered several things off the menu with some friends, every plate tasted great & beautifully presented! Amazing chef that looked very attentive to how the plates were being taken out. Definitely coming back again!
This place is great more often than not, but weve had some pretty lousy service that makes us not want to go back. Usually its minor enough ... never coming back for our drinks or forgetting something food-wise. Last time, they left us on the patio for 40 min with no drinks or water or service at all before we just walked off. But, when theyre on their service game, the food is pretty good, as is the happy hour.
EDIT: 2 changed to 4 stars. Seems they were having a bad day on my first visit. A good spot for all kinds of outings, but especially happy hour. I just wish the tacos had more meat in them.Delicious frozen margaritas, I tried coconut and mango and both were great - they add honey and it makes them unique! Happy hour is every weekday from 12 to 7, which is incredible. Unfortunately, they were very disorganized when I visited. Wait staff kept walking around to different tables asking if a drink or dish was theirs, because they had no clue who ordered what. My tacos and chips were forgotten for about 50 minutes (usually takes them about 10 mins to serve), I was finally served after reminding them three times while I slurped away at beverages. Tacos finally arrived, but still not the chips - mind you those are just in a tin that they can grab and bring to me. Finally they bring one tin, even though several of us ordered chips. Tacos were average, carne asada was dry. Ill give this place one more chance due to proximity from work, however, I was disappointed on my first visit (after having walked by this place and being intrigued for some time).
The place looks good, the food was good but I felt like it was a bit over priced. Also, I love to have some guacamole or salsa with my tacos but they come plain. I do not like cilantro at all, I asked not to have any but I still got some so it was a bit disappointing.
Really bad service. Went in for a quick eat. Ordered 3 tacos and a margarita on the rocks. Ended up getting two tacos and my drink when I was leaving which I rejected. I would understand if this would happen when it was busy but it was not. I did not even ask for the bill, I left $20.00 on the table and walked out (for $5.00 worth of tacos, I didn’t have any change if not I would have left a $5 bill instead).
While the staff is always very friendly, the food and service always fails to deliver. Though the space is rarely filled orders come out cold, incorrect or not at all. The space has all the makings of a great neighborhood restaurant but it needs to focus on consistency if it is to really be a draw.
I love the food here however please look at your bill before paying. After receiving my bill I noticed the waitress automatically added and charged a 19 or 20 % tip in the amount of $19 on my card. While I am a tipper I noticed a new trend of resturants adding the tip into your total amount due and charging you automatically which is technically stealing from the customer. There were 3 of us so it didnt fall under the 4 or more party rules and I was disgusted to be basically told what I should tip. Other than that no complaints.
I have been coming here for over a year and every time the service gets worse and worse. I keep giving it chances because it’s one of the only places in our neighborhood but this is the last time. Your drink orders will take longer than your food to get to your table and the staff minus one or two people are rude and dismissive even after you clearly watch them talk, congregate and clean vs making your drinks or running your food. If you even mention anything to the manager, they are equally dismissive. It’s good food and I have nothing against the chefs, if it’s what you are in the mood for but the service in front of the house is bad so just know that going in.
Of i could give this place a 0 star I would. This was my first time ever coming here and I was hopefull for an amazing experience. When I entered the location I was welcome and was told to choose where ever I wanted to sit. Ordered my drink and food at the same time. Drinks arrived then waited and waited and waited for my food. An hour had elapsed and no one came to my table to address the wait time for the food. I asked the waiter to cancel the order because it’s was unacceptable that I had to wait an hour just for 3 tacos and grilled salmon. When I asked to speak to a manager the Spanish female told me that they don’t have one. I’m sad to say I had such a Terrible experience when the place looks so amazing super disappointed will never step foot in that establishment ever again and will not recommended at all.
The food we had was spectacular — the shrimp empanadas are a great portion with lump shrimp and delicious peppers and fixings inside. The veggie enchiladas were delicious — not too much cheese, perfect amount of sauce, well seasoned. You may have a wait a while for the food but it’s absolutely worth it.
Simply Amazing,I stopped by with a few coworkers for lunch and left ready to come back with friends. This place is perfect for grabbing a quick bite at the bar, or lounging and allowing time to melt away with a few drinks.Starting with the location, its inviting, well lit, clean and presented in a way that you know youre gonna have a great time. Seating is plenty and when the season permits, one must eat outside. As I mentioned earlier, you can eat at the bar as well. The food can raise the dead its so good. I ordered the Shrimp Empanadas apertizer because I had already eaten, however my coworkers ordered a Quesadilla and Nachos. Nobody was talking while we were eating (and we talk a lot). Presentation 5/5, Flavor 5/5, Wait Time 30mins Max.The drinks are another victory for Sonora. I had two frozen margaritas and a Coke. My coworkers also ordered at least 1. They were Sooo delicious while not being too strong which is perfect seeing how we had to drive. I recommend the Mango and Passion Fruit. The service was the final icing on the cake. My coworkers and I are rich in melanin and we were made to feel welcome as any other guess would. The server was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable with the menu. Once finished, we all were able to use our cards (which is a blessing) and were given a sincere goodbye as we left.I should have taken photos, but when I go again, I will. Please, before you leave Brooklyn, or New York, or America, make sure to stop at Sonora.
I’ve been to this place 3 times and it’s the best Mexican style food in Bedstuy. Tacos are good, Nachos are good, Drinks are great. Service is awesome. The only thing that has happened to me all three times is waiting for the check for so long even after telling the waiter I’m done, but other than that, good food and good times.
We love this place. Its our neighborhood brunch spot but dinner options are also good! My go-to is the Huevos Rancheros with the guava mimosa and the bf gets the veg burrito and pineapple mimosa. We dont eat meat (except eggs) so we love that there are plenty of options for us here. Service has been great every time!
I unfortunately only go here for the drinks(Which are incredible when Taylor makes them). Though the food always taste as if its missing something. Salt, pepper, cilantro, lime Idk something? Even the guacamole. Ive order a few different shrimp dishes a few times. Though they always seem to taste as if they havent been cleaned properly or bad? Even though I say all this I will continue to go bc our neighborhood lacks alternative and its not horrible. It just definitely needs improvement. Please turn it around I want to LOVE this place.
My wife and I have eaten hear at least 12 times and, other than the mosquitos by the deck during the summer, we have had no complaints.Wings? Great. Nachos? Just enough. Even the chips and salsa have their own, fresh flair. My home workouts are better, knowing that I can walk 3 blocks for a post-training, protein-filled meal!Like authentic Mexican. Check em out!heal. move. EAT HEALTHY. evolve.
Considering the dining room wasnt busy, there is no reason it took damn near 45 minutes for our food to come out. Countless to-go orders went out before we got our food. The food was ok at best. The mojitos were watered down and it took another 20 minutes to get the extra shot of rum. A complete waste of money and fathers day dinner.
I visited this place, back in December 2017. I was visiting from South Florida, when I walked in (to check it out for the first time ever) - great service (with a smile), bi-lingual and very, very friendly. They serve a beer there called Brooklyn Brewery ...... THE MOST DELICIOUS BEER, E V E R !You have to go there ! This beer alone motivates me to visit this place again, when I head up north (again) in 2018.Great experience ! Great place !
A booking mess up lead to a long wait at the bar. We eventually got served and the food was decent especially the BBQ wings but then the service stopped. I had to get up and request the check/bill after another long wait and even when we left to catch our Uber our dirty plates were still languishing on our table. Maybe the locals get better treatment but non-Brooklynites better take care if they choose to dine here.
Zero Stars!!!Tacos were ok but service was terrible , drinks are served in small glasses, I ordered a margarita on the rocks which came in a bigger mason jar but also came with a DEAD FLY in my drink. I noticed it after i took a few sips, waiters seemed indifferent, one waiter said the fly wasnt there when she fixed the drink maybe it fell from the ceiling, like really?? Asked to speak to a manager multiple times, waited forever just to get the check and from them to take my card...not my first time here but definitely my last!
Ive been here 2 different nights now. The Sunday night I have been was very low key. Then, the Friday night that I went was turnt up.... There was a DJ!! He wasnt bad. I cant remember his name. But he was funny. Trying to get people to pop out to his next gig. The food was good. I am doing Keto. So there is of course a small variety of things that I can really eat. But, Ive always found something.
Amazing food and drinks. Fresh quality ingredients is what lends to a wonderful dining experience in Sonora restaurant. The salmon burrito is a must, perfectly cooked salmon with various ingredients, the best compliment in the salmon burrito is the light fluffy coconut rice. The strawberry mojito is the best mojito that I have every had. I am excited and cant wait to explore the many other items on the menu!!
The service was absolutely the worst. I would get service in a funeral home. You have to have enough staff to better treat the customer. The restaurant was half full. The fact that I had to wait 30 minutes for two drinks, then get attitude from the waiter is so bland. Now Im writing this while Im in the restaurant still waiting for another drink and it is 45min and still going....really
After seeing this place while I was driving by with friends we decided to try it. We are big fans of spanish/mexican cuisine. Inside was decorated nice thats why I gave it one star. But the experience wasnt good it was terrible. The waitress wasnt trained well, our order was late and the table that came in 15minutes after us was served 1st. When our food did arrive it was inordinately small portions compared to the same dishes ordered next to us. How can tacos go wrong? The meat was hard and cut into tiny chips bits and the nachos served in a small pan was small with only a nickel dollop of guacamole with 4 tortilla chips and it was priced $14? Then we were OVER charge for a dish we DIDNT order. And the Pico de Gallo we DID order NEVER CAME. After patiently making it known to the new waitress who gave us our check what happened, all she could say was Im sorry. And we had to calculate the bill caused she didnt do it. I wouldnt recommend Sonora. One, TOO MANY ERRORS! I recommend you Keep on driving pass.
I’m gonna do the cons firstBeen here a few times..... my Cornish hen entre came with my appetizer which was too soon, 30 mins later they bought back the same plate completely dried Out from sitting in the warmer for so long. didn’t seem to have a floor manager who could assist the scattered staff, Or take our dreadful complaints. The chef seems bored.....plate presentation seemed just as scattered as the staff. Cinnamon or something in either the rice or refried beans (maybe better meal descriptions) the fish in my taco was slightly dark, soggy & smaller than my middle finger, which wasn’t so bad after you slather some more sauce on it. The free chips were glossy n transparent which means they might be old, not strained properly orrrrr the fryers dirty. I assume all three. No offense.Flan was crusty and dry. tequila custard was nice. yet nothing to get hooked on. One minute it goes from creamy spiked desert, to a flash back of that time in college when you vomited in your mouth at central bookings , wishing you had a blanket to comfort you .... definitely don’t want college flashbacks in my food. Idk why I got arrested 🤦🏽♀️ The guac..... no! the salsa was chunky pico, thought we’d get something special, idk idk.But the flavors....... except for the cinnamon rice & beans, & the Cornish hen lacking concept, were dope . tortillas are nice the tacos were better than expected. this location is great. decor is amazing. Maybe a good drinks and taco spot. Wish you all the best ✌🏽💕
Ridiculous. No sitting area for those waiting. Long wait time, which is understandable on a Saturday evening, except 3 separate staff members asked us if we were waiting for a table (lack of communication), then proceeded to seat people who walked in immediately after we waited 20 minutes. Im sure its a new restaurant but something like this is completely avoidable. Common decency is not rocket science.
I really like Sonora. Finding good tacos in New York is hard. Sonora tacos arent as good as my favorite truck on the west coast, but they are VERRY GOOD and by far the best Ive found in the city. Tortillas are grilled, meat is fresh and juicy, they are the proper street taco size and not slathered in nonsense like guacamole. Burritos are also great. Sonora has refried beans, which makes all the diference. They have a few different salsas, all of which are tasty and fresh. Go there now!
Friday night, a few weeks ago was LIT! Live DJ spinning all the right tunes. And the food was unexpectedly really good! Platano veracruz (sp?) was mad delicioso. Went two weeks ago on a Tuesday, and still had an enjoyable evening. Best Mexican food in the neighborhood, by far.
An insane scam. I was finally tempted to try this new place, and to my surprise, it was actually worse than it looks from the outside. I asked the server how big the nachos were. She said Pretty big, so we got some to share. What arrived was a pathetic wet pile of chips in a 6 cast iron skillet. These were $14. The carnitas enchiladas were filled with canned corn and peas, and a diced meat that that didnt even resemble pork.Do not waste your money at this pop-up scam of a restaurant.
Never again! 5 reason why...1. No AC til we ask to turn it on it’s 80 degrees outside2.The employees were crewing gum and more concerned with each other than the 3 tables eating3. The food took an hour to come out and was wrong4. The bathroom was like a sauna5. No manager on duty to help with any of the above issue.
I’m writing this review while sitting in the restaurant, this was my 1st time here..Only reason I came here was because I liveIn the neighborhood and always see the place packed so 1st me my fiancé and 1 yr old sonComes in no one greet or seat us we standing jus looking around then we waved a waiter down and ask who’s seating ppl the waiter point us to a table that was dirty still had food on it from the Last ppl who ate there. So we ask for the table to be clean our waiterCame clean the table took our orders... We ordered drinks they were watered down very weak..took forever for the food to come and when it did I had to send mine back my chicken fajita was over cooked and the meat had a burnt taste...I spent 20 minutes trying to flag down my waiter to get it cooked over, but by the time I caught her attention my fiancé and son was done eating..she ask did I want it to be cooked over I said no..I’m puzzled why our service was so bad when It was enough staff there for this not to be the situations but 3 other staff members was so into trying to fix the karaoke Issue that the customers suffered it was gentlemen sitting next to us who was also upset it was his 1st time too we both agreed it would be our last time ... horrible experience smh

2022-06-28Great Mexican spot with incredibly friendly staff. They are super pet friendly and brought a water bowl and treats right to the table. The food was great and frozen margaritas were delicious. Definitely a must go spot in the area. Follow @benjisguidetonyc on Instagram for more dog friendly recommendations!

2022-04-28I loved the food here! I got the ground beef burrito and two steak tacos! Everything was very flavorful and amazing! The space itself is very cozy and designed well. The bathrooms are very clean and nice. I can’t say enough good things about this place! The staff was very friendly and helpful! If you’re in the mood for some good food go here!

2022-04-06Decent Mexican. We ordered the vegetarian quesadillas (not pictured) and chorizo nachos which were both pretty good. We also ordered three tacos (carnitas, pastor and carne asada) all three were pretty average. Decent restaurant for a weekday quick dinner

2022-05-27I had lunch here. The tacos were delicious and I thoroughly enjoyed my Mango Margaritas. The service was great. They have both indoor and outdoor dining. The only reason I gave them 4 stars is because Sonora is a la carte. Meaning you pay for everything separately. So just be aware that it can add up quickly and become expensive. Although I was surprised at the bill, I would definitely go back.

2022-06-18Get any of the the frozen Margaritas, theyre really good. Our tacos only had Cilantro and Onions, along with the meat. No sour cream or cheese, so we decided to take them home and spruce them up, the wings and fries combo was on point. My wife had the lemon pepper and I had the BBQ wings, while the fries were hittin, with a splash of sea 🧂. Only con, was the long wait, as they only had one waitress on a Friday. One of the managers made up by giving us a free shot of their house Tequila, which we appreciated.

2022-05-15What a gem! Just moved to the neighborhood. The chips and guac were an A+ - very firm chips that dont break off. Our food was delicious. The drinks were yummy and strong. We plan to be regulars!

2022-05-28Me and my friends eat here every other day and the customer service was great until they hire new staff they charge me $65 dollars for 2 shots and 2 coconut margaritas and that was without food. They add an 18% gratuity on your bill so Be very careful of this place they will rip you off and then the waiter had a nasty attitude and told me to go some where else.

2022-05-01If youre looking for overpriced, less than mediocre Mexican fare, please look no further. We were lucky to have attentive waiters which made for short wait times but it didnt make up for upcharges and bland food. The best meal we ordered was not Mexican (lemon pepper wings).

2022-04-16Try another restaurant. This place must be struggling. Nothing spectacular here. This restaurant is very mediocre at best. I ordered shrimp crispy tacos and my partner order beef nachos. Nothing over the top. The icy here is this restaurant applied a 18% gratuity for TWO people!?!? Not worth it!

2022-03-06Good Margaritas,The best thing about this place is Marcos as hes an amazing host! The food was very forgettable. Very bland with very dry chicken, flavourless beef and pork.Mexican food to me is all about bursts of flavour and comfort to the soul. The food here was bland and soulless! Definitely love the vibes and venue. Wish the food could keep up with the places potential!
