The service, food and drinks were amazing. Our full party wasnt there until an hour after our reservation and they accommodated us. The manager Emmy was so attentive, helpful and informative. We had such a great time and will be back to enjoy the music, ambiance and vibes. It was a great Saturday brunch! They even gave us free shots! So fun!
Came here right at the start of Happy Hour, and our party of 6 was seated immediately. Staff took our drink orders down right away, I love when you dont have to flag someone down! Happy hour prices are also a steal - especially in this neighborhood. The Kentucky mule was good (def dont skimp on the alcohol), will for sure come back to try their other cocktails.Wasnt expecting much considering their menu was bar food, but was pleasantly surprised at how good their Essex burger + truffle fries were. We were there for about 2 hours and even as more people were getting seated, our glasses of water were never empty, and someone was always around to check on our table (thanks Emmy!).
Celebrated a friends birthday here during their Sunday Brunch. We got there at 2:55 on 4/14 for our 3pm reservation. When the host (a blonde with a short blunt haircut) was informed she responded with an exhausted rude attitude no, youre early go get a drink at the barIn a very friendly manner I showed her my email confirmation which said 3pm. She rolled her eyes and said she would get the manager.Despite the very inhospitable start:•The DJ was great•Our waiter Rachel was beyond warm & amazing•The food was lovely•The crowd was extremely fun, everyone and i mean everyone was dancingAfter the birthday parade and many shots, the night was a success.(Tip to management: the host can truly make or break the experience at your establishment.)
The place was very cool. Decor is amazing too! Service was quick and efficient, and the food was good - we had the chicken sandwich and the steak strip, as well as the pizza appetizer to share, and it was all very good. Great place for brunch or an evening meal, DJ was on point the music is great. Definitely coming back again!
Very disappointed. Went here for brunch couple weeks ago, not sure if the waiters were intentionally ignoring us, but we got seated for brunch and the waitress literally comes to take our order 30 minutes AFTER sitting us, and forgetting about us.Not only that, I accidentally left my debit card there after paying for the bill and was calling them 1,000x.Considering I live in Long Island, this would be a far drive, and risky just in case my card was not there. (In case someone at the restaurant took it)Hence, I was calling many times and many days in a row to see if I could pick it up. They never answered and it left a bad taste in my mouth about this place.Unsure why an establishment neglects answering their phone. The late waitress taking my order 30 minutes late was one thing. But this topped it off.Had to cancel my debit card and get a new one.Wont be returning.
My experience going to Sons of Essex (Sons) over the years (since 2013) has always been a great one. Those DJ Wally Wonder Saturday night spins and Brunch Sundays were epic. Every Sunday brunch that me and my friends have been to, we have had nothing but the sounds of great music and attentive service from all. The vibes here have always been welcoming and vibrant. I cannot stress that enough. I was just at Sons on Sunday, July 18th with five other friends and the experience has not missed a beat in this post-covid madness. The service was exceptional. Emmy went above and beyond looking for ways to accommodate us all, as a manager should and could. Our server, Mary, and her attention to detail allowed us to continue our enjoyment without skipping a beat or drink in hand. That level and quality of service is hard to come by during these trying times. Thank you for another amazing experience. You will see me and my friends again, again, and again.
I usually dont write reviews but I felt that I needed to after I had lunch there Saturday night. I have avoided eating at a restaurant since the pandemic started cuz I have severe social anxiety. However, my server, Carmen, was so patient with me and I think she saw I was nervous. She was so friendly and really took her time with me and my friend even though I could see that the restaurant was kinda busy. I enjoyed the food but I came here to write that the service is especially spectacular. I have already recommended it to others and I most likely would be coming back with friends.
I went to eat with some friends on a Saturday evening. Even though it was super busy, our server, Carmen, was really friendly and personable. She didnt make us feel like we were being rushed or anything. I will surely come back to eat here and will hope that shes working. Overall, the food was great along with the service Carmen provided.
Our party had a good time. They had a live DJ just like times before Covid. It did get a little crowded so be mindful after 10pm on the weekend this place is lit. The food is ok and the drinks is hittin. If youre still concerned about covid you might wanna go early. Like around 7-9pm. Either way we still enjoyed ourselves. Would do it again
Okay so! I booked a brunch for 15-20 with Sons of Essex. The process was pretty easy and it went smoothly. Our party bus was running super late due to traffic. We ended up being almost an hour late for our time but Emy was so accommodating!!!! She let us order even gave us free shots annnnd gave us a variety of mimosa flavors. The atmosphere is great the DJ played great music. Carmen our sever handled all of us like a G. She was so patient and kind! I recommend sons of a good brunch turn up!!! Thank you Emy and Carmen and the team for making my Bday special.
Ive been planning a New years Eve get together for weeks and decided on The Sons of Essex as venue. Immediately upon meeting Emmy who is the biggest reason for me choosing this venue, I knew my friends and family would have a night to remember. When we arrived on new years Eve, we were treated with the best service imaginable. The food here is excellent. My favorite was the chicken sandwich. John is a bartender at The Sons of Essex and he knows how to keep people in a positive mood. He knows what he is doing behind the bar and knows how to serve drinks like a pro. The crowd was a very upbeat, good looking crowd. The DJ was excellent and played some of the best songs to keep everyone on the dance floor. The security staff kept everyone safe and allowed everyone to enjoy the evening with their professionalism. My friends and family truly had a night to remember thanks to Emmy, John and staff. In a city full of poorly ran establishments, The Sons of Essex is a gem! I have a another go to place to visit when I want to eat great food, unwind and relax to drinks and music, and to host group events. Emmy thank you
Awesome vibe and atmosphere. And did I forget? The Happy Hour specials are great too. $0.50 whiskey wings on Tuesdays and $10 Burger and Beer specials all week. Home of excellent comfort food like the truffle Mac and Cheese... or the Fried Chicken Basket... both to come back for the next visit. Been a while since I have seen the Hip Hop Brunch... but reviews say its the bomb. Will try that soon.
Amazing staff, amazing food, amazing music - while also being COVID safe. They took great covid precautions, but also made it such a fun time for everyone. Dj Rich was awesome, the manager Chris was so professional, friendly, and super accommodating! Our servers were so kind, patient, and fun. Elise made our experience really fun and special! Will definitely be coming back!!
I went there for brunch overall I had a good time. The hostes is really nice so was my server.Food was great I ordered the eggs Benedict that was really good but my poached eggs was a bit overdone. I like when I slice through my egg i can see the yolk running through my plate. I mean thats the idea of an poached egg. I didnt bother to tell the waitress because she was preoccupied with a large party. And Im sure she would of got me a new one if I did mention it, but didnt feel like waiting.Place is very clean and everyone is super friendly. A+ for the ambianceIf you are looking to have a great brunch I definitely recommend this spot. Its good for large groups as well.
I really enjoyed the food at Sons of Essex. I had the shrimp Mac and cheese and signature truffle fries. I enjoyed the Mac n cheese but the truffle fries seemed like regular fries to me. There wasnt anything too special about them, in my opinion. Also, the environment was chill and waitresses were fun but at one point it got sooo cold. The music was so loud. This is more of a place to eat and party. Having a conversation will make your voice hurt. I left with a coarse throat. I couldnt speak. I would recommend for food and birthdays.
This spot is always guaranteed a good time. Ive frequented this place over the past 6 years and Im honestly never disappointed.I decided to write a review this time because of their amazing hostesss (Dark skin with bald head dancer just in case management sees this ha!). We literally showed up without a reservation and she was super cool and took care of us. She seated us in the pit (you wanna get seated here esp during brunch) within less than 5 minutes of us waiting.I would say make reservations for around 1:15 because thats when the DJ starts spinning. At any given point, it will turn into a part. The vibes here are absolutely insane and a perfect place to celebrate. The food is really good but its kinda pricey. Our mimosa cost about 32$ and it said that it was a pitcher. It was literally a carafe that wasnt filled to brim. Hence why Im giving it 4 stars because I feel like the prices are a bit outrageous. With that being said, if youre looking for a place to celebrate definitely come here
Great food, great drinks, fun crowd. This place reminds me of an old-fashioned Southern comfort-type place. Wooden treatments and a long bar set a good tone to start. Their drinks are well chosen and made even better. The food is solid across the board- anything you get will be good. Their brunch tends to be a total party: larger crowds, hip-hop music, lots of food and drinks flowing. Fun. Recommended for when you want to have a good time.
Great restaurant & bar located in the Lower East Side, NYC. Ive been back multiple times for brunch, dinner and just drinks! The music is phenomenal at all times, all their DJs play both old and new hip-hop that keep the energy high. Its great for large groups celebrating birthdays or just Life. We had the burger, truffle mac and cheese, whiskey wings, and I love the chicken & waffles during brunch. Its more quiet during the week which is great to catch up with friends in an intimate setting. This place does it all. Highly recommend, and I ALWAYS bring my out of town visiting friends here.
Its a fun boozy brunch spot for sure - I had a lot of fun for my friends 30th bday here. The servers were attentive and not cheap with the unlimited mimosas. I docked a star bc i didnt really enjoy my chicken and waffles. But the truffle tater tots were amazing! Would still recommend if youre looking for a fun brunch spot - even if youre a big group.
Great food, good music, and great prices. This place is outta control. Sunday brunch but feels more like a lounge with food. People were legit out of their seats dancing to the DJ in between bites of food. Im no stranger to boozy brunches, but this is new favorite spot. I was mostly amazed at how well People were dressed.Btw, the chicken and waffles are awesome.
My boyfriend and I frequent this place every single Sunday and have been doing this for months. We love the staff and the vibe; everyone is extremely nice and hospitable which is why we have become fast regulars. Theres usually a lot of birthday parties happening so its festive and chill. Food and drinks are delicious :)
Such a mood. Went for Saturday brunch for a bday (along with half of the city). DJ playing excellent music and the food is great. you cant really wrong with unlimited mimosas, fried chicken, and jams.A fun fact about the bday package- they make custom signs for the bday person. Very cute! (Balloons not included).Pro tip: when they switch from bfast to dinner service, they will not serve you new drinks at their bar.
This is my favorite spot on the Lower East Side. Hands down.I love their high energy brunches, amazing happy hour deals, and the nightlife is serious a must!!The food is awesome, good vibes and great DJs. The first time I went here was for a friends Birthday and I have been coming back ever since. The crowd is fun and looking to party, the music is always Hip Hop (90s mixed with todays hits) and the staff are all so welcoming and attentive. No complaints. One of my go-to spots to both relax and party.I highly recommend whether youre visiting or live here!
So many bad reviews for the dinner over not getting seated with respect. I didnt see anything about the actual food or drinks. Granted that I havent eaten here or entered entirely sober, but Im also not one that usually complains about trying a new place and meeting new people.Since its change from Mason Dixon, I really like the style with a coffee shop entrance. The contrast between a white bright coffee place to a dark candle lit dinner area gives a nice touch. Its always nice to see the glow from the lively conversation around the bar. The interior also has a lot of detail with that leathery classic look, which adds to the decor. The previous mechanical bull area has become a pit for some dancing or just sitting around an awkward circle. One thing I really love is the old school hip hop music they play. You dont always hear Biggie and TLC at these types of bars. It was a refreshing change of pace and it went nicely with the 6 point ales and decent draft beers. My favorite thing to order before I leave is the hot apple cider. After a meal or a night of drinking, it helps settle the stomach and leaves a smile on your face. Its made with a cinnamon stick, hot cider, whip cream, and a whole lot of love.As a bar, Id say its a 4 star since I didnt see any particularly special beers. The music gets a bit loud and the mix between the bar and dinner area may disrupt the preferences from both sides. As a coffee shop, Id give it a 4.5 for good coffee, cider, and service. I will come back during dinner to give my food review about it, but I am a big fan of comfort food like Mac and Cheese.
Disappointed in our visit after hearing quite a bit of hype about this place. We showed up for our 12pm reservation for brunch on Saturday, and despite the place being wide open, we were seated in the back next to the cash register and kitchen entrance. No one came by for a considerable amount of time after we arrived despite servers frequently going in and out of the kitchen directly next to us.We finally ended up ordering, and got a pitcher of bloody marys. It came out the consistency of salsa, making it almost too difficult to drink. Despite all of the added ingredients, the drinks just werent good. We left about half of the pitcher unfinished. The food was well prepared however, and was really the only saving grace of the meal. But all in all, the lack of good service and consideration left us with a bad taste (as did the bloody mary). Cant say Id recommend it when theres so many other fantastic brunch spots just around the block.
The night started off pretty annoying. My friends and I went out for our friend’s birthday. Upon entering, we were carded. No big deal. But the guy checking IDs thought my ID was fake because I was the only person from Jersey and asked if somebody else had a Jersey ID to compare, really? After finally getting in, we were seated at the table. Food was amazing, music was great and our waitress was really sweet.
Me and my friends had a wonderful time here and it saved the day after a nearby places server (Em Matt) was incredibly unprofessional and we were forced to seek refuge elsewhere. We stumbled in here and found the place incredibly accommodating and warm.We were soon seated and found ourselves laughing and enjoying the food and music choices (CALL ME MAYBE).Our server was the warm and convivial Carmen and she was charming and very professional. She recommended the chicken and waffles and I did not chicken out ordering them!Shoutout Sons of Essex! Shoutout sparklers! Shoutout brunch! Shoutout Carmen, my love, my hero, my heart. Shoutout alcohol!
Awesome brunch spot. They only do bottomless for big groups (10 or more) but doesnt matter because they also offer pitchers for $25 each, amazing deal! Music is always on point and we always have a blast, this place is a must if youre looking for a fun place to party during the day.
I came here with a huge group of friends on a Thursday night and the place was great! We ordered literally everything on the menu because we couldnt decide on one thing and everything we ordered was spectacular. The staff was also impeccable and acted as a family establishment which was nice! You can tell people come here often and enjoy it and he staff knows everyone.I would come here for any occasion!
Ive been there for a celebration over the summer when a friend graduated from college. A couple of friends decided to go again this past weekend to celebrate Halloween. The venue was rented for a private party but the bouncer wanted to help us out and gave us a few options. Option 1 was a $40 cover per person (we were a group of 12). Option 2 was a bottle service of about $200 and option 3 was a tab of at least $275. Definitely not worth the type of venue.
Me and my friends came to NYC from San Fran for my sisters bachelorette weekend and we were told this was the place to go, and IT SO WAS!!! The bouncer was so sweet, he let us in even though it was late and it seemed like they might have been closing soon. He brought us to the hostess who ended up being the manager and she brought us to a private section in the back that had a little dance floor and a dj! We got a bunch of shots and drinks and annoyed the bartenders so much but they were so nice, the manager brought us a free bottle of champagne with little fireworks! BEST TIME EVER!! We will be back!! We love you Ashley!!!!
This place is nice to go with a group ..its a little more expensive than Id like but its expected for the area Id say .Try their wings and a side of macaroni & cheese. Its my favorite . The bartenders will also take care of you. I love that they are all so personable, patient and experienced as I NEVER know what I want to drink . Lol.
If youre into disgusting and expensive food (really bad tasting and undercooked) and listening to Drake and Kanye 2007 hits in an eternal loop, this place is right for you. With music too loud to hear anything, but no place to dance cause of the tables, I cant understand if its a club or a restaurant or a bar, and it seems the place cant figure that out either. We paid close to 100dlls for the worst hamburger, salad and watery tea ever. How difficult is to not mess those simple things? Looks like very difficult for them. Just do a favor to yourself and go somewhere else, cause this place SUCKS.If youre reading this and youre the owner, please go eat there and after you vomit youll understand my review.
The dance floor was so fun! I had a blast just dancing the night away! The music changed frequently, before a song ended, which actually kept the energy up even during the songs I did not know very well. We were some of the last people in the place and they even had to tell us they were closing up!
I like it. But its a bit overcrowded and intense for me. Decent service and food. We were treated well, would I go back? yes, but not in a hurry. I guess being in a crowded space makes me not enjoy the rest, but it was good and great cocktails and the service was pleasant.
Sons of Essex was literally the best place I have ever gone to for brunch. Besides the food being outstandingly delicious the service was extremely out of this world! The food was brought out right away. My ladies and I went out all week to celebrate a birthday and out of all of the places we went to this place was the most memorable. Our server Jessie was one of the best Ive come across and I actually work in the restaurant business. This place is a MUST GO! I will definitely be back! Amazing team, keep up the good work!
Complete rip off. They forced our table to order from the prix fixe menu - which doesnt include courses or even a coffee/drink or anything reasonable. So my French toast was just $30 flat fee, as opposed to $15 like if I could order from the regular menu. They gave no option! They throw tater tots on the table as though thats worth the extra $15 per person - they made almost $200 off of our table because of tater tots?! After tip and tax I paid $40 for dry French toast presented terribly - I ate less than half before the situation just became wholly upsetting. It was so upsetting and the server was completely uncompromising and rude. I wouldve just left/not ordered if it werent for a close friends birthday. This place has great music but no dancefloor, so its a bit of an awkward setup. I dont know why youd boast a dj if people cant even stand. Altogether bad experience, wouldnt go back or recommend visiting. The bartender was nice though.
Went here for my cousins bday brunch. The staff was very accomadating. My party and I made reservations and we were running a little late. The ones who came earliest were able to be seated and wait until the entire group arrived. It was a group of 4.The staff was very energetic and youthful. Our waiter worked with us to suprise the birthday girl with her suprise over the top dessert. The atmosphere was very loud, energetic, hype vibe almost more club than brunch. Seating in the back definately gave off a more clubby vibe with dim lighting and a projector screen showing various images. There was a dj and an impromptu dance floor created in the middle in front of the screen projector and dj booth. The music was very loud, but good and current. The dj the afternoon mixed current with classics which was great!
A cool bar but a little overpriced. The music was awesome the times I went. On certain nights they have DJs Andrew Andrew. They were so much fun! Played a little of everything. Too bad the dance floor is small and the security guard kept getting mad at us for dancing in between the tables.
A friend took me to this spot earlier this year while I was on vacation. Interesting menu, the food is great and so is the music, if you like old school hip-hop you cant go wrong with this place. I sat at the bar; the bartender was very knowledgeable and helpful. I will be back ! I saw some reviews about overpriced .... If youre into music like me you wouldnt mind the money, believe me.
Let’s just take a moment to appreciate the very incredibly strong “frosès” during happy hour served by Leah, one of the most incredible attentive waitresses I’ve experienced since living in NYC.Stylish. Great. Not incredibly crowded so you’re not fighting for a spot. Lovely happy hour vibes that I will come back to next time I cross the bridge from Brooklyn. This place be good y’all!
Arrived with a Groupon for brunch at 1130am...totally empty! Great place with no wait.Very attentive service, helpful recommendations from our server and great food.Love the lighting in here; our water was refilled even after our plates were taken away and our waiter was sweet and helpful. Started to get packed around 12:30, but that makes sense.Ordered the lobster tostada and the lobster benedict. Both came with Bloody Marys, which were excellent. The lobster was sweet and fresh. The eggs were perfectly poached and the potatoes were fragrant of rosemary.Total meal was $45, not bad for 4 drinks and 2 entrees. Fantastic experience, would love to return!
Went for Sunday brunch. I REALLY enjoyed myself. Great fun vibes.. dj was AWESOME, cant stress how good the DJ was on sunday enough.. was literally dancing in my chair. The girls at the front door were super nice also. Bartender very courteous as well. However, I cant give this place a 5 because it took really long for my food to come out when I didnt even really order that much (couple apps). And it was a long wait despite the fact that it wasnt packed.. busy yes, but not packed. Additionally I had to contort myself and basically stand up just to get my waiter to notice and come check on me. He forgot a drink as well. Its also worth noting its pretty dark in there.. didnt bother me, but some people care about that. I would say give it another try.. seems great for a sunday funday.
Love this place! I always have a hard time leaving because the music is so good. I like the ambiance and the people that do go arent as stuffy as other places. The food is great too and the management always goes out of their way to make it feel inviting and thank you for your patronage.
Actually enjoyed the music and service there but as my friend and I were leaving we were standing at the edge of the sidewalk trying to order a car and the bouncer told us we had to move over so we did then he and the other bouncer got physically and verbally aggressive with us, threatening us and telling us we needed to get off the sidewalk. We were quietly trying to order a car and informed them of that but insisted we couldnt be on the sidewalk and became physical. Ive lived in 5 states and Ive never experienced such aggressive, inappropriate behavior. We were just trying to leave. I will a NEVER go there again and only bc the bouncer was physically inappropriate. Worst experience I have ever had at a bar in 5 states
Great cocktails, food was good but not as good as I had hoped (not much truffle taste in the much lauded truffle Mac and cheese). As it got later, it became pretty loud (my throat actually hurts from trying to have conversations). Service was bizarre... they swiped up plates and silverware before shared dishes were finished, but empty drink glasses sat most of the night. An order of fries didnt arrive until after our plates has been cleared. Which perhaps is understandable for a busy Saturday night... but then they somehow messed up our payment, applying it to the wrong table, they said they would need our credit cards back to recharge the correct table. When someone asked for void receipts of the incorrect charges before we once again handed over our credit cards, it was discovered that the manager could in fact transfer the payments already made to our table. Not sure if it is just bad communication, poor training, or what, but not something that usually happens - and we werent the first to experience this kind of a problem, we read a similar story in a Yelp review.
Was this supposed to be somewhere to eat? We head here after a gorgeous and swanky dinner at Essex & Beauty and came in for some dancing and drinks.AMAZING. LOVED THE MUSIC AND THE VIBE.We dont have bars like this in Toronto anymore...somewhere that plays old school R&B all night long, took me back 15 years. LOVED IT.
Food is amazing and the bartenders are friendly. I came on two separate occasion this past week, once by myself, and the bartender Topher was extremely knowledgeable about the food and drinks. He was explaining to a guest next to me the origin of mezcal. Bartenders like him is the reason I like to sit at the bar.
Wow this place was such a pleasant surprise to me. I have walked by this place a couple of times and finally I got to try it with my friends over dinner. We had two tables reserved for us right opposite to the bar. First of all this place does not look big from outside but once inside one realizes that it is very spacious and has ample seating capacity. The decor of the place is really nice and upscale and I also like the lighting of the place. As all of us sat down at the table, the Chef walked in and explained the menu. He explained the menu is a very detailed manner. Here is the rundown of the food which we all shared -- Started with the pickles and ceaser salad- Calamari salad had a decent hot kick to it because of those red chillies.- Jumbo shrimps served with fresh fruits- Chinese cabbage wrapped cod- Soft Shell Crab- Red snapper baked- Grilled Lamb Kebobs- Truffle Mushroom Pizza- Eggplant parmesan with tomatoesEverything on the sampling menu was really nice and my personal favorites were Jumbo shrimps, truffle mushroom pizza and eggplant parmesan. The staff was very courteous and went an extra mile to serve us. Definitely coming back here to try more on the menu and enjoy the awesome service offered here.
The food is solid, but nothing strikes me as particularly great. Everything tastes like it is supposed to be, and they still pull out the carts on weekends (as they well should!). The good thing is the $1.50 deal they have - $1.50 on any dish, big or small. Tax is included in the price (I like that!). I think tip might be as well. Ill have to check again, I tipped last time, but most places that include tax also include tip (like Gala Manor in Flushing.I want to give them another half a star for having such a good price, for what really is one of the better dim sum places in Chinatown. I just cant give them more, because the actual dishes taste better in Brooklyn and Flushing.
Lapin and I came here for brunch on Sunday. We made reservations but still had to wait 10 minutes to be seated at the bar. The restaurant itself wasnt very packed. Our waiter was attentive but forgetful. We asked for the bill three times until we put on our jackets to indicate we are ready to leave ( at that point we still didn’t get our bill and we were annoyed).Lapin ordered a Bellini and I ordered a Mimosa. They were served in thin plastic flutes, which seems a bit odd. They were okay but tasted a bit watered down like there was more juice than liquor.Lapin ordered the Fried Chicken ($22) and I ordered the Lobster Benedict ($17 or $19). The food came out pretty quickly and came out warm. The fried chicken was generous portion. It was tasty (lacked a bit seasoning/salt) but a bit dry. I suspect this was pre-made and warmed up prior to serving. The cornbread was crumbly but with the spicy honey it was delicious. I even stole a bit for my lobster benedict. The lobster benedict was meh until I added some salt. The potatoes came out burnt to char; I wasn’t a fan. However, I was able to trade Lapin the potatoes for some of his butter. The food was okay but they had generous portions. The staff was very attentive but they seemed to be juggling too many things at once. The music was pretty awesome, too. Singing along to “old school” hip-hop is always fun, more fun if one was tipsy and they have no shame. However, I am not sure if we would visit again.
They was very aggressive when speaking to them. It was my friends birthday and we had such a bad experience. The manager harassed us to make sure one of our guest did not partake in the brunch menu when we are adults and follow directions clearly. I’ll never come back to this place.
I love brunch and I love groupon- so I combined the two faves and bought a brunch groupon for two for here that included two entrees and drinks (bloody mary, bellini or mimosa).Made a quick reservation the day of and were seated immediately upon entering, right outside the DJ/lounge area. The restaurant is dimly lit, has great music, and excellent decor.I ordered the chicken sliders, my bf the lobster benedict.. and we had to get an extra side order of these infamous tater tots we couldnt stop hearing about.Verdict: truffle tater tots were nothing to rave about-- really very standard and lacking the much read about wow factor. My chicken sliders were pretty good, filling and flavorful. Im not the biggest fan of potatoes so the side wasnt for me, but thats just a personal preference. The lobster benedict was good in theory, but the lobster was salty as f.Overall, great ambiance and good drinks, but definitely underwhelmed with the food. Given the prices, likely wouldnt return.
Sons of Essex is one of my favorite brunch spots; it had a really chill vibe, the atmosphere was dimly lit, the DJ time traveled with the hits, the mosh pit in the restaurant was entertaining with people dancing and overall brunch was amazing. I went with a group of friends and we all agreed the service was great and we enjoyed all of our courses. I had the SOE pizza as my main course it was delish bacon, scrambled eggs, cheese and other goodness.
Sons of Essex is one of my FAVORITE spots. Chill vibe, awesomely creative and delicious food, great bar scene. This is a great spot to bring the boyfriends. Youll want to eat veggies all day so you can go all out on this menu for dinner. I cant wait to see what Matt Levine is up to next.
I have to say Sons of Essex has met and exceeded all of my very (extremely) high expectations. From the succulent whiskey wings, the finger licking gift from the gods they call the 3 cheese Pizza, the service and the perfectly crafted cocktails (not watered down, not too strong), the attentiveness and prompt service from the staff, and let me not even DARE forget the music!!!!!!!
A Cheese and Truffle Haven. Need I say more?Once the Mason Dixon and fitted with a mechanical bull sits a restaurant of speakeasy motif. Whether you are seeking brunch, lunch or dinner, Sons of Essex can fill the gaping void in your stomach. SOE can basically lather you up in anything you ever dreamed of (if your dreams start and stop where mine do: cheese and truffle). Need I say more? The exterior has the look of a deli in the front which leads into a dark, magnificent prohibition era, wide-open playing field for eating and drinking. From a cocktail menu made to make to you slur to a food menu made to make you drool (I repeat, cheese and truffle). Now that you have a nice image of me in your head, I suppose I should actually provide some insight on what you may eat.Long Time Gone – My Favorite Dishes Disappeared! I’ll still tell you about them…- all time favorite grilled cheese once lived here – it was a mac and cheese grilled cheese. Yes, this is not a lie or a figment of my imagination it happened. However, It is currently not on the menu but I have hope it will return. (please?)- Fried Chicken TV Dinner! When have you ever ordered a TV Dinner a restaurant? HungryMan watch out because this fried chicken doesn’t mess around. Truffle-Grilled Cheese - Sautéed mushrooms, arugula, tomato soup - Yes, yes, yes. Truffle.- Hen and Waffles…Okay now on to what you can still order and that I have taste tested, comments included below:-Truffle Mushroom Pizza - Three cheese blend, roasted mushrooms, arugula - Yes, yes, yes. Truffle.-Mac N Cheese Omelette - Gruyere, vbc mascarpone, elbow macaroni - Skip this, sounds better than it is.-Truffle Mac N Cheese – soe truffle sauce, parmesan gratin -Think like Nike when you approach this just do it!-Essex St. Burger - Parmesan truffle fries, soe slaw – It’s a good burger BUT these FRIES are amaaaazing. The cocktail menu to is refined and delicious, personally I like the Peddler’s Lemonade.
The prix fix brunch is a complete joke. If Im going to pay $30 for eggs, Id at least like to see the tuxedo-clad chicken it came from.Poor venue for groups, unless you happen to be a pack of dwarves, for which the tables were clearly built for.The most mediocre $12 Bloody Mary Ive ever paid for. Ever heard of garnish?
The food is to die for, but just dont die from hunger while you wait. This place gets packed in the evening and everyones heard how good the empanadas are. Atmosphere is pretty thematic old timey, which works for this place. Be prepared to double fist a drink in one hand and food in the other since there arent tables to sit at.
Im an 80s baby and the 90s raised me. So for me whats not to love about this spot?! Good food and even greater music. The night before I was at wedding in Jersey. One of the homies suggested we go to Sons of Essex before heading to the airport/train stations/freeways. Ended up kickin it with the big homies Tupac, Biggie, and ATCQ! Dj was dishing out 90s bangers while the kitchen was making me phatter. I went with the chicken biscuit and a side of bacon. Also shared a bunch of other dishes too. Ive told other homies to go and they all agree thats its one of their favorite spots in NYC now.
Worst experience ever!!!! Stay away! Big sign outside saying freeing inside on the hottest day ever but the AC WAS BROKEN! We thought we were gonna die! The food was all nasty and disgusting and we did not eat anything! Was so expensive and over priced! Extremely hood with there loud hip hop and atmosphere sucked!
Plenty to love at this dark LES joint, like the cool decor, all panelled walls and groovy knick-knacks, although the lack of natural light makes it better for an evening or wintry day than a sunny afternoon. My truffled grilled cheese was extremely tasty, with thick doorstop white bread paired with gruyere and parmesan, plus a perfect thick tomato sauce with cheese.Downsides? I really dont appreciate sitting through a song that repeats the n word every other line - not cool or urban, just offensive.
I left an umbrella there this past Sunday, called Monday to see if it was still there because if it wasn’t it had to be an employee that took it because the party I was with the last ones to exit your establishment. Spent all that money and you can’t even return an umbrella. Someone told me that would call me back and now it’s Wednesday. 😏🤔 don’t leave nothing by mistake, you won’t get it back!

2022-04-06Best brunch spot I have ever been to! Food was delicious, staff was great and loving the old school hip hop music. Also the live DJ was so dope, felt like I was in a night club at 2:00pm. I will definitely be returning when I go back to New York. Reservations are a must.

2018-05-04The bartender was great and the drinks were well made. Food came out quickly and service was efficient. Burger was great. Truffle fries were some of the best I’ve had. Mac n cheese was a bit tooooo salty though. Overall a great dinner.

2017-06-06Great brunch playing some good r&b music. I got the special (shrimp tacos) and they were seasoned very nicely. My boyfriend got the burger and loved it. The tater tots were just okay but we arent big fans of tots. The Bellini carafe is good but it was too much sweetness for 2 people.I gave this place 5 stars because it was also great for a night out. We liked the music and vibe so much that we came back that same night to party. Drinks were strong. Music was still great. Only downfall is that they started kicking people out at 3:15 even though the place advertises that it closes at 4am.

2022-06-23Service was okay, but the place is overpriced. 2 stars cause food is hit or miss, some people had good food, others had awful. As others have said, its like they want to merge a restaurant with a club, but cant pull off either.
