Sottocasa in other cities:
The Sourdough base is to die for and its just the beginning. Ive had the pleasure of meeting the owner, shes sincere and true to quality through and through. Everything weve ordered weve enjoyed and I csn say this is our favorite pizza spot. But its more than a pizza restaurant, its unique, the ingredients and cooking are really special and they deliver consistent quality. Definitely worth the money Definitely give them a try.
Ive tried this restaurant twice and I will not be ordering a third time. The pizza in itself is soggy and slimy (requested well done), while the crust is over cooked. You are not able to pick up a slice as the sogginess makes it impossible to hold. The whole middle of the pizza is just disgusting!I was recharged $1.00 for additional basil that I did NOT receive. Three measly leaves of basil the first time, and two the second time. This lets me know that inconsistency is a factor here. I paid $11.00 for (9) olives, I can not make this stuff up.I would much rather drive downtown to Tappo before I support this establishment again. I placed an order based off the comments here, however I now notice majority are in person dining, which in this case you can simply send an order back if youre unhappy and request a change . Perhaps in person dining is a better experience, however Ill never know. Order and dine at your own risk folks!
My husband and I stopped in here on a recent trip to NYC. It was easily the best pizza we’ve eaten anywhere ever. I had the panna cotta for dessert, and it was absolutely perfect. Most desserts at other restaurants are loaded with sugar, but this had just the right amount of sweetness. We’ll definitely be making a trip back the next time we’re in NYC.
Not suitable for celiacs! (Unless youre not sensitive and dont care about a little cross-contamination.)First of all, they are very nice at Sottocasa and my friends said the pizza was very delicious. However, they cook the glutenfree pizzas in the same oven on the same stone surface, right next to and with the normal pizzas, so cross-contamination seems inevitable. I didnt end up trying it, because I am quite sensitive and the risk seemed to high, so I cant say anything about taste. But if youre only gluten-sensitive or have a light gluten allergy - the glutenfree pizza is supposed to be amazing.
Best Wood-Fired Pizza in NYC! Cozy location with a Top-Notch Restaurant Manager, Marco!Came in with a big group and Marco made sure to accommodate all of us, the table was always neat, the setup and running service by the team was amazing! Marco recommended us to start with a Tagliere and the cheeses and cured meats were to die for! Next, we got our pizzas: Capricciosa, Diavola, Boscaiola, Valdoscana, Boscaiola – they are simply.the.best.pizza.ever! Marco suggested some wines to pair with our pizzas and they were excellent with our meal!Highly recommend Sottocasa-Harlem! The food was excellent, the venue is perfect and Marco’s attention to details just made our experience extraordinary!
Server “Fafy” doesn’t know customer service. Didn’t smile, impatient, dropped a fork in front of me and just sucked her teeth instead of saying sorry. We had a party of 6 and the 20% tip was included. Does that excuse workers from having any manners? Sad because we’ve had no problems with any of the other workers, and everyone else has been incredibly kind. We’ve been to Sotto Casa numerous times, and this may be our last time because of her. Very upsetting experience.
Wow! Gluten-free pizza was great, and service was good! Dessert was awesome too!The pizzas on menu are personal size, and can be made gluten-free. Both of the pizzas we got were delicious, they have more sauce than they do cheese and toppings though. The Panna Cotta is made on site and was amazing. Highly recommend!
For me pizza is all about the dough, you need a great pizza dough to have a great crust and in turn have a great pizza. The crust here is amazing, chewy and crispy at the same time. The pizza are small enough to get one per person. Would go here again and would recommend to others.
The pizza in this location is actually pretty good. The only thing I didn’t like was that the pizza got a little soggy. Other then that everything else was good. The environment was nice, the staff were friendly, the people were cool. If you wanna come here with your friends and family then this is a good spot to get pizza. Just keep in mind, with just two people you’ll spend about $30-50
Great pizza spot under a brownstone on 121st and Lenox Ave! Great selection, great menu! Excellent staff! Pizza is on a soft dough; is a little soupy sometimes. Be sure to order the pizza well-done! Best thing is that they deliver in Harlem as well! My girlfriend and I love this place!
Whether you eat in or take out the service is spot on, very professional, polite and they get the order right every time. The crust is crunchy wood oven crispy and the top chewy delicious. Every pizza we have have been so flavorful, our favorites are the clam and the Prosciutto. We have had pizza in Northern Italy and we could not tell the difference, excellent pizza. Loved every second of my experience here, after hearing so many good things. Highly recommend the Salsiccia pizza - Italian sausage and basil.
Walking near the beautiful churches in Harlem, you found this semi underground cozy and very Italian place. The service is very good, the Italian-artisanal beers, great; but the pizza... mamma Mia!!! One of the best pizzas I’ve had in all my life (and I am a big fan of traditional pizzas). Try the 4 formaggi, which is just unbelievable.
Best pizza we had on the trip. Not even close. The pies are big! We assumed because of the pricing they would be “personal size” but couldn’t have been more wrong. Cheapest and best pizza you’ll find in the city in a gorgeous restaurant. The special potato pizza was absolutely fantastic. Prosciutto so thin you could use it as a window pane & still spy on your neighbors. Everything from first step in was above and beyond delicious, attentive and caring. You can tell the owners and staff are proud of their establishment. Dine inside, it’s a gorgeous space isolated from the hustle and bustle just outside. Must stop!
Very charming and warm Italian cusine set in an authentic brownstone in Harlem. Service was quick and courteous. Original artwork is displayed for sale through out the restaurant. Tried the mixed greens and brick oven pizza with fresh mozzarella, basil and tomato. Nice portion size. Everything was just right would definitely go back again.
To say this is the best pizza in NYC is a MAJOR hyperbole. To say it is top 30 pizza joints in nyc is a lot more appropriate. The pizza definitely looked the part based on the beautiful pictures other eager pizza eaters have posted, however, this pizza truly lacked in the flavor department. Olives do not belong on a diavola pizza. If you are in the mood for mediocre pizza with hints of failed Italian flair, this is the place for you.The interior of the restaurant does present a cozy and welcoming environment.
My third visit to Sottocasa Harlem, never disappoints. I’m on a mission to try every pizza on the menu. My wife has Celiac (gluten sensitivity) which makes it difficult to find pizza options and this restaurant far exceeded our expectations. The food and drinks are amazing, and the service exceptional. I felt like home, if home were a little spot in Italy.
The pizza is pretty good, but this place is so full of itself it it made me nauseous. Meanwhile the staff is very obviously segregated by gender and ethnicity, which is just creepy. Meanwhile, although the person bussing our table and kitchen staff were polite and accommodating towards my disabled brother in law, the server seemed somewhat annoyed, and also disparaging comment after asking about our allergies, “I hope not!,” which made me and my partner — who both have serious allergies — feel both ashamed and unwelcome. She then very aggressively refused a variety of accommodations for my allergy I didn’t ask for, despite the fact all I requested was a glove change and surface wipe-down.Good NY pizzerias are a dime a dozen. Go to one that actually respects its customers — and has the decency not to hire according to gender and ethnicity — instead.
The menu variety has simple fresh ingredients, and the Italian beer was fantastic. Sottocasa is located in a brownstone ground floor with outdoor seating. The restaurant was quite busy, yet friendly and attentive service. Its near the 2 and 3 subway line in Central Harlem.
I was just there getting gluten free pizza. The gf pizza was the best I’ve had. I have celiac and I must have gluten free dough, which usually tastes, well, not worth eating. Sottocasa was so good, even my husband said he loved it. We will be back, Sottocasa, because you make excellent gluten free pizza: a fresh, crisp, flavorful, crust that is not chewy.
Very clean and safe! This is one of the best pizza in New York. real Italians doing Napoletana style pizza. I could not find any other place un upper Manhattan or Harlem that make pizza like this place. The cocktails are good and the appetizer too.The wine was a bit disappointed but that is because I only drink good Chilean or Italian wines. But overall this is a 5 star place!
Thee best pizza ever!! We drive from DC to Harlem for this exact place!! Its as authentically Italian as you will ever find. I cant wait until we as a nation fully recover from COVID-19, because if you have ever had the FULL dine in experience...Lord have mercy. Anyway, Ive loved great pizza since my childhood, Dominos and Papa Johns are **meh** but when you want the Real Deal- get here quickly!! Youll be glad you did!!*Also the family or whoever owns this place are just wonderful people who truly love what they do.In other words what Im saying is that if I lived in Harlem, NY Id be 30 pounds heavier. Enjoy!

This is my favorite restaurant in New York. The food is truly authentic Italian pizza, salads, and drinks. My boyfriend and I come here often for date night and we have never gotten tired of their menu. The staff always makes us feel at home. I’ve brought family and friends here over the past year and a half, and I won’t stop! They all agree that it was the best pizza they’ve had.
Absolutely delicious pizza served by incredibly nice and efficient staff. Everything was fabulous -- our large group had 5 different pizzas and they were all great. Good wine selection and the desserts are lovely. Actually, this is one of the BEST places for pizza in NYC, and that is saying a lot in a city with so many pizza choices. You owe it to yourself to visit this wonderful, casual but sophisticated restaurant in Harlem..
Omgsh!!! The best pizza in the east coast!!! Very friendly Italian owners and cozy/welcoming environment. I would eat here daily if I could. Great and fast service too! Their pizzas are thin , full of flavor, juicy, and chewy but crispy at the same time. Words cant describe, eat here if you can!!!!

SottoCasa Pizzeria is an amazing place if you love pizza crust. A lot of people say that New York pizza crust is only thin, but this place has doughy and ample crust to enjoy. The atmosphere was busy and lively when I went, but it wasnt overly crowded. It is a very casual and laid back place that has friendly staff. They know their business there, and we were out of the door within an hour of being seated. I didnt feel rushed, but it was a very efficient and streamlined process to the meal. I had mozzarella and mushroom on my pie, and it was super zesty and creamy tasting. I think the mozzarella was fresh, and the mushrooms might have been as well. Either way, the pizza was properly cooked and spiced with herbs, so I was drooling throughout my dinner. Theres a lot of pizzerias in New York City, but this one is a top five for me, and I would recommend it to anyone, especially vegetarians.
Went there yesterday for dinner with the wife. Friendly staff, super tasty pizza. They have both white and red pizzas with lots of choices for toppings. The pizzas are about 8 to 10 inches. Four decent size slices. I was decently full after two pieces. They also had an interesting selection of Italian microbrews. I tried a Zest which was a pretty decent beer.

I love this place. The pizza is excellent and unique. It is worth going to just for the selection of Italian craft beer. These are very different from American ones and the owner is very happy to explain the differences between them. Unlike American craft beer they are significantly different. The staff are all friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommended
Great pizza and unusual beer options. Good ambiance and there is a back room where families with kids get sequestered, which is good for everyone including the kids. Pizza options are great and are particularly strong for the vegetarian options. I would give this place 5 stars were it not for the relatively high prices, in particular for the beer.
Delicious food and phenomenal service. Very diligent about safety and protocols. Clean and warm outdoor seating. Ordered the focaccia, cab, Romana, rughetta and finished with the cannoli and coffee. All excellent (especially the coffee and wine!) and fairly priced. Arrived hungry, left full and happy. Will be back!
Authentic Italian pizza. Wonderful staff. Family friendly. Feels like you are welcomed into an Italian home. Did I mention the pizza is really, really good? They got the stove shipped from Italy,, installed by Italians, and pizza is cooked and served by Italians, too! Must visit.
Waited all day to eat here for the first time with my daughter. We each had a personal pizza. Mine had artichoke n italian ham etc...I had 2 slices and some salad. A few hours later I became violently Ill..forced to throw up..pain all night ...3 days later..still cant eat but bread
We were pleasantly surprised by the high quality of the pizzas here, rivaling those you find on the streets of Napoli. High quality ingredients and very nicely done base, just like true Napolitean pizza. Pizzas and drinks are a bit pricey, but in my opinion totally justified in light of the very good service, nice atmosphere and top-notch pizzas.Show less
Awesome pizza and super friendly staff. Ingredients are either directly from Italy or carefully sourced from long-standing multigenerational Italian purveyors. My first ever visit was on a day we had done a tour of some of the top Neapolitan pizza joints in town and this was our favorite.
Ok I admit I’m the worst kind of pizza geek. I imported a pizza oven from Italy that is in my backyard. That being said this place was great. We started with a Ceci (garbanzo bean) salad with tuna and capers and lemon that can only be described as clean and fresh and amazing. Complimenting the bean salad was a delightful leopard pizza. The crust was perfect, sauce light and cheese balanced. One of the best pizzas in the States. Support this place!
Great Neapolitan-style pizza, industrial and artisanl beers, friendly Italian staff. If you go there during peak hours youll probably have to wait, since they do not take reservations (last friday we were there at 8:30 and we were seated at 9:15). But if its so busy, thats for a reason! Prices are very reasonable. One of top spots for pizza in NYC
One of the best pizzas in NYC. And Ive had most of them. The toppings were flavorful, the crust was soft but crunchy (have it with the spicy olive oil). The wine and beer were interesting and well paired. The staff were kind (we were the last ones at 10:20pm). We will certainly be back --- especially especially as a Harlem resident.
Are you looking for a little piece of Italy in Harlem? Sottocasa is the place you wanna go. Full Italian style, pizza, wine, beer and hospitality. I knew I was in Italy when they ask me if I wanted the spicy oil! Every pizzeria in Italy asks you that! The place is cozy and the pizza very good! Very nice crust and everything! If you are an Italian like me looking for good pizza definitely go!
Ive been trying pie all around the city, and this place is by far the best Ive found. The dough is soft and pliable, and the toppings are high quality and fresh. The service can be a little slow at times but the atmosphere and pleasant staff make up for it. When people visit and want pizza, its the only place I recommend now.
This review is easy. This pizza is actually incredible. Neopolitan pizza is almost always good, but this is next level. Its also not expensive for what it is. The restaurant itself is also nice and cozy.I will definitely be coming back anytime I want extremely good neopolitan pizza! This deserves all the stars!
This is one of the few pizzas in the country, which would survive in Naples, Italy. The tiramisu is to die for. Drink options are perfect. Non traditional pizzas are well thought out. Ambience and staff are very pleasant. It is relaxed but every detail is well take care of, and everyone is knowledgeable.
I have Celiac disease. I rolled the dice and decided to eat the Gluten-Free pizza here despite the risk of cross contamination on the shared oven and mixer. They do their best to keep the cross contamination to a minimum and it worked for me. The gluten free crust is AMAZING, it’s the closest thing I’ve had to real bread in a very long time.
Found this place online with great reviews. Wonderful selection of drinks and food. Had the prosciutto and mozzarella app which was fantastic. Also ordered the burrata pizza which was really good. My only pet peeve was that it I wish it was served a little hotter. I like my food piping hot! Lol They were quite busy when we were there, Soni think my pie may have sat for a few extra mins before being brought to the table. The service was great and will definitely be back!
I love this restaurant. Food is delicious and staff was nice. We havent got a chance to try the dessert, but I think it will be great. We order 2 pizzas and an antipasti and it was good. Pizza is great. The crust is soft and crunchy at the same time. Prices are ok. I would recommend people to eat at here
What can I say. Delicious, authentic Italian pizza prepared by artisans with fresh, quality ingredients. Their menu says, their pies are a bit more wet than American pizza, (meaning the inner-crust isnt as crispy), but because of the ingredients theres not much they can do about it - and they say thats the way they like them. Most (or all) of the staff are Italian, and its apparent in the finished product. Plus theyre courteous and happy to answer any questions. There are hundreds of pizzarias in New York City. Dont miss this one.
This was the best pizza Ive had in a long time. The soft, warm crust, the gooey cheese of the Buratta pizza... soooo GOOD!Great service. Attentive staff. This restaurant was a recommendation from neighbors and strangers alike. I love that it is kid friendly (babies abound, kiddos too). The portions and prices are reasonable.
Warm and inviting restaurant in Harlem. The owners make you feel like part of the family. The brick oven pizza is really outstanding and the gluten free version is UNBELIEVABLE - you cant taste the difference - I dont know how they do it. I frequently take out of town guests here and it is always a hit.One more thing - they have two dining areas and they very smartly seat the families with children in one and adult customers in the other. So we get to relax knowing that our 2 year old isnt distracting from someone elses dinner.Love, love love this place.
Wonderful Pizza!Im Italian guys and let me say that these guys really know how to make a delicious real Italian pizza. The Buffalo mozzarella is real, juicy and so tasty. The dough is perfeclty cooked and managed, the tomato souce is so sweet and fresh that perflectly reminds me of my hometown. In my opinion the best pizza in NYC. And dont forget to try their faboulous tiramisù!!
Having spent a month away in Italy, Sottocasa’s pizza is the most authentic to what I ate on my stay. What’s even more amazing is that this place is uptown! Sottocasa offers a wide variety of choices, starting with fresh salads to incredible pizzas (available gluten free for an additional charge, and TOTALLY worth it), to delicious desserts and wines. This is a great place for a night out with friends, or to even order delivery from if you live in the neighborhood. Try the truffle and speck pizza!!
On a Friday night, our wait time for 3 pies was 2 hours. We live 2 blocks away from the restaurant. When it finally arrived after having to call to check in on our order twice, our pizza was cold and one pie wasnt even cut into slices. Unacceptable service for take-out, so beware.
Actual food quality seems quite good; youll probably have a fine experience eating in. Bad experience with delivery though: they ignored my instructions for delivery time (theres a specific place to enter it on the website) and gluten free and number of slices options (check boxes on the site... obviously the failure to cut into eight slices is no biggie) so for our $55 for two pies and salads we got room temp soggy crusted pizza because it sat around an hour before I got home from work, and one of us with a fortunately mild wheat allergy suffered minor repercussions after eating the not-noticed regular crust pie. No response to message left via the site (yet).
Delicious food and phenomenal service.Very diligent about safety and protocols. Clean and warm outdoor seating. Ordered the focaccia, cab, Romana, rughetta and finished with the cannoli and coffee. All excellentfairly priced. Arrived hungry, left full and happy. Will be back
Truly a gem hiding in Harlem. It is below ground so you come upon it unexpectedly. The food was extraordinary in the prices were reasonable for what you received. The service was fantastic and we were well attended to, with a very helpful waitress who offered the lesser expensive options instead of trying to upsell us.

2022-05-27Sottocasa is one of the best pizza places in all of NY. If you’re worried that a trip to Harlem is “too far” you should reconsider. It doesn’t matter what pizza you order, you will enjoy it. Everything is delicious! The staff are friendly, the vibe is lovely, and the food is delicious! They have an extensive craft beer list and the beer bottle come out in a bucket of ice. Overall it’s an incredible place and needs to be highlighted because it’s too good not to share with others! Will be back 100%

2022-04-02Our favorite pizza place in all of NYC (maybe the world), exceptional service, unbelievably tasty pizza, great beer selection. Try the pink IPA with your pizza, and follow it up with their delicious lemon sorbet, you wont regret it.

2022-02-28Here’s the deal : this spot is the definition of a 5 star place. Why? Consistency. These amazing people never…NEVER fail to deliver. Each and every time the pizza is on point. Plain and simple. The freshest of the freshest Italian ingredients and a dough that’s to die for.Kudos to these amazing Italian fellas, who manage to keep the bar extremely high as to how brick oven pizza should be always served.Edit (after visiting over 20 times, these past 7-8 months) : this place never fails. Never ever. I wish I could give an extra 5 stars. If you’re new here and want a suggestion : Tartufata & Diavola. Possibly the two most delicious pizzas you’ll ever have, in your life. (We’ve tried multiple and were all delicious and on point…but these two are just something special! See photos…)

2021-09-22I have been there twice in a matter of 10 days. Excellent pizza. Having gone to Italy several times the pizza is just like that. The owners are Italian and you will hear lots of preggo and allura in their words! The food is incredible, I leave full and overjoyed. Everytime!! Plus they make excellent lattes, probably better than Starbucks. A favourite place. Definitely great to bring kids, family and friends to celebrate. The atmosphere is nice welcoming and the entire staff is extremely friendly.

2022-02-15This is by far my favorite pizza place in NYC, which is saying a lot. They nail it every time with the pizza, but the salads, wine, desserts, etc are all stellar. Theyve created a lovely atmosphere, both indoors and outside, and the owners are WONDERFUL. They bend over backward to make everything as enjoyable as possible, are extremely attentive to special requests, and very professional in their demeanor. They also understand that dining out is not just about slapping good food on the table in front of you, but rather the entire experience; and they manage to do it in a humane, non-pretentious way.Im so so relieved theyve survived the pandemic, and can continue bringing pizza and happiness to all of us up here in Harlem

2021-10-16Comfort food + fantastic quality pizza. Go to dishes are Diavola or margherita. Dolci is among the best menus in the area. Tartufo and tiramisu are to die for 🤟🏽
