Southdown Coffee - Huntington in other cities:
My husband and I were so excited to check out this new coffee shop in town. We were looking for a local shop where we could spend an hour working, however this coffee shop didnt have any power outlets or wifi. We were a little disappointed by that, however their Ginger Turmeric Matcha was delicious.
This is NOT a sit down and enjoy your breakfast type of place. The food is great and so is the coffee but the experience is completely ruined by the fact that you have to stand to eat your breakfast because you can’t get a table to sit and eat. There were plenty of people taking up room just reading or playing battle ship. If you want a quick grab and go experience this is the place but I think that it’s very deceiving to call this a decent breakfast spot.
One of the best spots on Huntington as far as Im concerned. The folks who work here are kind, theyve adapted beautifully to COVID - it feels entirely safe without being at all oppressive - and everything they serve is high quality, of not cheap. Our favorites are the famous egg sandwich and the vegan banana chocolate chip muffins (were not vegan and theyre still worth a mention!).
This rating is an combined review of both coffee and food here.To start, this is the best coffee shop in Huntington. Great barista and very delicious. Only place I’ll go for coffee. 4 stars! As for the food. The food is decent but incredibly overpriced. $8 for a single taco is absurd. Every taco place I’ve ever been to makes their own handmade corn tortillas, it’s not a luxury. It’s corn. 2 stars.Highly recommended for great coffee with reasonable prices. But go somewhere else for food unless you want to over spend.
The best coffee around. Strong with a beautiful aroma, a regular coffee, although a bit pricey but worth it, will make your day every time. If you are looking for a pastry to compliment a cup, Id suggest the almond croissant. It is delicious, and I promise youll order one every time they are available. If a breakfast sandwich is more your speed, Id go for the Famous. The pickled onions are a nice kick of flavor to the egg sandwich.
Great coffee, delicious pastries plus the NICEST staff. We always feel welcomed here. The iced americano is perfect. The bacon, egg and cheese with their special tomato spread breakfast sandwich is a must! Its delicious. Also a great place to hang with friend. Good vibes!
Southdown Coffee is so much more than a coffee shop. They roast there own coffee right in the shop, an amazing process to watch. They have some of the most rare and unique coffees you can find anywhere. Right now the Inga Aponte crop is in and you should go Tomorrow and get a cup, its that good. The food is eclectic with a Mexican theme. The breakfast sandwiches are amazing, and the salads and sandwiches are creative and delicious. Lots of cookies and sweets round out a wonderful culinary experience. There are a few tables, and people watching is great fun. A special Huntington gem.
Stopped in here for a cup of coffee quick. I went for the maple latte. The place was busy and clearly popular and i only had a few minute wait for the coffee. Never having had a maple latte before i was pleasantly surprised at how good it was, and they make it with actual maple syrup. Very nice design inside with a coffee bean roaster right in the middle. Warm and inviting Id say. Ill definitely be stopping back in!
Southdown coffee is excellent! Their coffee isnt too strong or too weak. Its just right, to steal from Goldie Locks. My wife ordered a Greek salad and she was actually floored about how fresh it was and how actually tasty it was. I had a bacon egg and cheese that felt like it was right off the pan at my moms house. Very homely feeling, the people who work there are incredibly courteous, polite and very helpful. The best coffee shop Ive been to on Long Island. I recommend it completely. 5 stars!
Great place for coffee but the food is way overpriced. I don’t mind paying $8 for a breakfast sandwich but it has to equal $8.Southdown Pizza across the street has $6 Hero’s and they are amazing. I hope Southdown coffee is not trying to take advantage of the people that live here by having huge markups. If anything I know we didn’t get here by overpaying. I hope this helps them in restructuring their prices or there menu to give us an actual $8 breakfast sandwich.
I write this with a heavy heart as I used to love Southdown Coffee. Unfortunately, after another disappointing encounter I hope that these reviews help and not hurt quality improvement. Let me first start off by saying that the coffee stands alone in this establishment. It is delicious and always consistent. I wish the same could be said for the staff and the level of service being provided. Over the past six months I have consistently received poor service that borders on being rude. For example, today when I returned once again because my sandwich was made incorrectly (which is more of a regularity nowadays) I was met with a “what’s wrong?” when I approached the counter. Not exactly the welcome you are expecting after you have driven all the way back to correct your order. Several times I have returned to correct kitchen orders and have been met with the same level of annoyance from staff members. As a member of the community I am always the first to shop local and support small businesses, but sadly I think that Southdown coffee has lost mine.
Best find of our 2 week stay in Huntington. Incredible coffee. Always changing the beans used so you definitely will find a roast you like more than others. And their scone/biscuit OMG! Its perfection. Their pumpkin muffin?! Perfectly not too sweet, texture everything. I will miss this place.
This is my favorite place sit down, sip a coffee, and grab a place to eat. Whenever I visit Huntington, I always make this a stop. They roast their own coffee right here, in front of you, and their sandwiches are absolutely delicious. If you’re there for breakfast, order The Famous egg sandwich. You won’t be disappointed
Great coffee and tasty baked goods in the morning (so tasty they often run out of the best baked treats!). A little pricey compared to budget coffee, but no more so than Starbucks/other premium Java joints.Good service, although I did feel judged at one point by the very hip barista. Maybe thats part of the charm
My husband and I were very excited to hear of the opening of a coffee shop in our town of OB. We would always walk by and watch the progress of the construction. We have been there a couple of times and during our last visit we had a very unpleasant experience. My husband ordered us coffee (2 cups of coffee) and as he was leaving the coffee shop, trying to open the exit door while holding our coffee, the coffee was spilling all over. The exit door is not conducive when people have their hands full of coffee because you have to pull the door open instead of pushing out. The coffee spilled all over my husband and it burnt his stomach. The lids didnt properly fit the cup. I went inside to try a different lid and not one lid fit the cup properly. I ask one of the young girls (Rosie) if there are other lids and the employee says oh yea, the lids dont work. We got a bad batch of lids delivered. One after the other, patrons are trying to find a lid that will cover their cups properly. As patrons are leaving the coffee shop, their coffee is spilling all over. If you know the lids are bad, why put them out for your patrons? I asked to speak to a manager and he wasnt available. I left my information (name and phone number) with the employee, Rosie and still to this day havent heard from the manager. Rosie was nice enough to give me a call later that day to let us know that she spoke to her boss and that she informed him of the incident. We didnt hear from him. I guess Southdown doesnt really care about keeping their patrons especially local ones. If I could I would post a picture of my husbands burnt stomach.
Quality coffee, quality service, quality atmosphere.Ive been here a number of times. A cool, clean coffee house with friendly, attentive staff, quality food and coffee, and a fun place to hang with friends and family while enjoying all of the above.I would likely come here more if there was a rotating signature espresso drink of some sort. The maple latte is tasty and very sweet.Their lavender lemonade is amazing, though it may only be seasonal. My boyfriend doesnt like bitter coffee, so I usually have to convince him to make the stop just for me - he jokes that hed rather just get an americano from starbucks. I do wish there was a coffee beverage here that he liked. The food that Ive tried is pretty good - fresh and tasty. Their croissant was light, flaky and buttery -- just right. Their famous #1 sandwich is packed with fresh ingredients, and is filling, but *feels* healthy. They seem to be expanding their food menu...I dont live in Huntington anymore, but always stop in here on my way to taking my dogs to the Coindre Hall dog park...so I noticed this time there are more lunch options, which is nice.Usually fairly crowded, but worth the wait.Definitely come by and check it out!!
Great coffee, good breakfast sandwiches. There are 5 small tables for seating and a small parking lot with very tight spaces. Dont bring a nice car here! The only thing preventing me from rating this 5 stars is the prices. After spending more than $13 on a large coffee and a $8.75 egg sandwich, I am usually charged full price for a second coffee. $17 is just too much for a quick breakfast in a coffee shop.
Great coffee, great breakfast sandwiches and bakery goods. Small, friendly shop that roasts their own beans. Love that they support other local merchants...scones, muffins, fresh juices and healthy choices... They even have a kambucha bar. Get there early or theyll run out of muffins and tables. Refrained from 5th star for decor...pretty plain, a little cluttered...could use some photos but Im nit picking...I love this place!
This is the second time i’ve been here and i can already say i love the place. The atmosphere is quaint. Wooden floors and benches. Indoor plants. Moderate lighting with an open westward exposure that allows the sun in which reflects off the stores nextdoor. The staff are friendly and courteous. They’re also informative as I was very curious where they get their coffee from. They have a good thing going and seem to be genuine about their enthusiasm for coffee.Their product is the best i’ve had on the island and rivals other coffee shops i’ve enjoyed in areas like Saratoga and Lancaster, PA.If you’re in the area of Huntington, which if you’re not then you should be, then stop by and smell the coffee. You’ll be glad you did.
Accidentally grabbed someone else’s order thinking it was mine. The people working were extremely nice and understanding. I offered to pay for the persons drink knowing they’d have to make another one for my mistake. They refused to let me pay and were extremely genuine with their customer service. This place has amazing coffee, but even better people working here. Definitely recommend! Amazing customer service 😎
I have visited Southdown Oyster Bay on numerous occasions, and have been dissapointed every time. Their coffee is maybe the worst cup of joe I have ever had! Very acidic and bitter! The employees are much of the same, not very friendly. I am a resident of O. B. and looked forward to their opening to have a local place I could walk to for coffee. Ill drive to Sea Cliff for Starbucks!
I like this place, coffee is good, breakfast sandwiches are yummy. They need to add a phone # to their web site and to yelp, google etc. I wanted to ask a question about when breakfast was available and there is no phone number to call. I want them to stick around, they must add phone # and the web site needs some tlc. The place itself though is great!
The barista with the beard ...RUDE RUDE RUDE!Maybe because I ordered a decaf coffee ????I walked into Southdown Huntington from a long day at the hspital. The barista was shooting the breeze about his last trip to Europe.. He seemed annoyed that I interrupted, or maybe because i ordered a decaf. He poured my cup, kept on chatting with his friend and never told me what the cost was...It was awkward. After 15 seconds I had to ask him how much I owed him. When I paid he took the money and said nothing to me, but kept talking to his friend...WOW!

2021-12-05We are super fans of Southdown Coffee and we visit them once a month for a couple of bags of their beans when we run out of our supply at home. However, this was our first visit to this location in Huntington. The decor is bright and clean but a little narrow with limited seating compared to their location in Glen Cove, which is the best in our opinion & Oyster Bay.Our favorite blend is the Sure Shot, which is perfect for espresso machine and we bought 5 bags as our routine with 2 pastries: Chai Scone & Biscuits. We also had 2 cups of hot Latte with 2 pastries, Almond Croissant and Zucchini Bread to dine there. The coffee was great and served quickly. However, it took us almost 20 mins to receive our pastries, which needed to be heated up since the staff forgot about our orders. The pastries were delicious especially the Zucchini Bread, soft & puffer but the wait was disappointing.

2022-07-15Okay coffee but only 3 syrups to add flavor to your favorite coffee drink. Homemade vanilla, homemade lavender and maple(?). They have mocha which is simply just chocolate syrup. Each $1 which seems high for a simple pump of flavor. I believe every coffee shop should have a larger array of flavors including hazelnut, caramel, french vanilla at most ¢50. There are better options in the Huntington area for coffee.

2021-06-07Excellent coffee and service every time. Theyre one of my two favorite roasters on the island. Their food is exquisite...I dream about the famous egg sandwich...a perfect balance of fat, acid, sweet, salt, contrasting textures, and amazing bread.

2022-03-07I visited here in the early morning and absolutely loved it. I had the maple latte and its my perfect cup. I always love a variety of spices and layers in my latte and got exactly that. Everything is super clean and modern, the staff is super friendly.También hablé con una barista bilingüe que me dió mucha felicidad! The few downsides (which are EASILY overlooked by the amazing coffee) is that the space is a bit snug and there are no outlets for your devices.

2022-02-19I thought it was a dunkin donuts they had over here, anyway i was told to run out and get my wife dunkin iced coffee so i asked the employee to make me an iced coffee and just water it down. Anyway i got home, slipped it in an empty dunkin cup and she bought it. Thanks guys for getting me out of that mistake. Happy wife happy life you guys are great!
