I’m college student up here from Bronx and you know NYC has some of the best food ever ! But let me tell you !!! Southern Fare is best restaurant in Oswego hands down like everything is so good from the drinks to the food. I felt at home for a little bit and when you walk inside you totally forget you’re in Oswego! Great for date night and just treating yourself
Had dinner here on Saturday. Wished I could say it was a great experience, but it wouldnt be true. First off the entrance to the place is not clearly labeled, we ended up going through the dinning room to get to the hostess station. We were seated within 5 minutes, at a table right next to the outside dinning area. Didnt think it would be an issue until the door kept getting opened. It was very cool on Saturday night. The staff was very nice, but the food was lacking and overpriced. I got the $16 burger, which came out grossly overdone. A friend ordered the fried chicken, which came out rare in the center. It was still pink. We ordered the fried green tomatoes, which were grossly undercooked and not even fried. They were cold in the center. Another person ordered the salmon. The portion was so small, that they had to order an appetizer after they finished it, so they wouldnt be hungry. Others ordered the $15 chicken sandwich. They were all very underwhelmed for the price charged. The manager did remove the green tomatoes and chicken from the bill. And I received another burger, which was still overcooked, but edible. We had some drinks which were good, although a reorder of one took over 30 minutes to get. Out waiter was energetic, but seemed to disappear when we needed him. Overall the place is not worth the overpriced menu items. I dont have any issue paying a premium for quality food, but this was far from quality.
Clean and modernly designed including subway tile flooring, this bright restaurant is on the ground floor of the newest building in downtown Oswego. Southern classics (jambalaya, chicken and waffles, etc...) paired with whiskey or southern inspired cocktails with friends or family will be awesome here. Looking forward to my next visit.
I went last night with two of my college friends. Skylar was our waitress. It was busy, so it was slower than usual. We didn’t mind. We hadn’t seen each other in ten years. Skylar kept checking in on us and apologizing for the wait (which again - we didn’t mind). When our entrees arrived - they were definitely worth the wait. Thanks to Skylar and the team for a wonderful night filled with great food.
This was my first dining out experience in a year. Shrimp Jambalaya was the perfect amount of hot and spicy. The drink menu from beer & wine to mixed cocktails is impressive. Service was great!!! I felt safe that facemasks and social distancing measures were in place.
Oswego is beyond lucky to have this restaurant. I’ve eaten here twice now. The food and drinks are excellent. The chicken sandwich is wow. It’s so crispy (not greasy) and I’m a sucker for a chicken sandwich with pickles on it. The Mac and cheese I would have for breakfast lunch and dinner and I could eat a huge bowl of the pickled veggies. As I make my way through the menu, I’m sure I’ll add more favorites to this list. The drinks are extremely creative and what you’d expect to only find in a trendy bar of a major city. Try the smoke and mirrors - it’s an experience. They also have a great craft beer list and a beer club you can join. The decor is sleek and clean - again something you wouldn’t expect to find in these parts. I haven’t tried the cue yet but I will get to it soon. My only hope is they’ll eventually include a few of the BBQ items on their dinner menu. It’s definitely on my regular rotation and should be yours too. If you’re from out of town, it’s worth the trip.
Fantastic food! Stellar drinks (the smoke & mirrors is my fave). You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu!I agree the chicken sandwich is amazing. We moved from Austin,TX and this place reminds me of something we’d find there (a good thing) but without the overcrowding, ha! Great addition to Oswego!
Unbelievable food and service. I will definitely be coming back here! Ordered just about every side On the menu and was super impressed by the quality. Salmon and asparagus were perfectly cooked. Service was impeccable and super friendly and that drink menu - pure perfection!
Recently moved from Austin, TX to Oswego and have been hurting for take out options. We’ve gotten take out from “The Cue” twice now and have been pleased overall. It’s definitely a diamond in the rough in these parts. Some highlights include the house made pickled veggies and the chicken sandwich. I’m looking forward to trying out the full menu post-pandemic.
Excellent pulled pork and crispy chicken dinner with southern-style cut cole slaw, pickled veggies, and delicious smoked broccoli rabe. We easily ordered on the website and delivery was fast, on-time and easy! Cant wait until COVID is over to dine in again! Great job, Patrick!

2021-08-07The presentation was impressive, great atmosphere and they had patio seating as well. The food was good however, having a family from the south it was not that Southern seasoning wise. The shrimp and grits were delicious but I had never had fried shrimp with grits. The pork chop was very good, tender and had great taste overall. As well, We had to try the vegan option which was a cauliflower steak (as odd as that sounds) and we do not regret it. I would recommend this place for sure if in the area.

2022-06-09Southern Fare has a modern-rustic feel with a great atmosphere that is certainly bolstered by its staff. The food is all top quality, fresh, and well-seasoned. Ive had the po boy (which had a nice light batter with good level of seasoning, and an extremely tasty remoulade), brisket sliders, smash burgers, and most of the appetizers - all of them tasty and with unique flavor profile for the area. The real treat comes with the mixed drinks, Skylar the bartender expertly crafts them with a smile, they always come out tasting perfect (where you can actually taste a drink and not be overwhelmed by alcohol taste). My favorite, Youre turning violet, violet, their spin on a French 75. Come check this spot out!

2021-11-05Beautiful, modern, establishment with an elegant aesthetic. White walls throughout with streetside window seating and an adequate bar area. Staff was friendly and attentive. High chairs available, but bathrooms dont have changing tables so be prepared if you cant find a sitter. Bar height, counter, seating alongside a window that looks out onto the street. Widescreen TVs near the bar. A beautiful seating area right when you walk in offers a nice area to wait or even pose for a picture. The food was well portioned for the cost with the only exception being $6 for 5 deviled eggs. The alcoholic drinks were unique and delicious (Morning Coffee and Watermelon Sugar were particularly delicious). The fries are heavily seasoned but tasty and they serve you a pitcher of water when youre seated so that helped with the salty fries.

2022-03-21Great atmosphere and view. The staff were very: professional, friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating. The lavender colored specialty drink they made with the tiny juniper blueberries was amazing.I ordered the brisket sliders. They were good but would have been great if they had less fat/less chewy. I dunno if that meant the huge brisket it came from ust needed longer cooking time or something. Nothing was bad at all that we tried!

2022-03-07Went for the first time Sunday night. Have been wanting to go since it opened. Aesthetic was on point. Walked in an no staff was to be found, a few tables had yet to be cleared off, so I sat myself. Seth emerged from the kitchen and greeted us with a smile despite running around like a chicken with his head cut off due to a call in. Despite being short staffed, Seth and the girl working with him, didn’t catch her name, were extremely pleasant, smiling, more than eager to serve and keep patrons happy. Cocktail was delicious, food was delicious. Tried several things and left feeling like I was going to explode. Will definitely be back to try some other things. Atmosphere and food was great but service was what really shined. Seth brought me the bill claiming he removed the tip option because service wasn’t that great. Service was beyond great considering the circumstances they were dealing with. As the owner of a food establishment myself, these are the type of people I look to employ and believe me, they are few and far between. I hope whoever sees this review praises Seth and the other girl on staff Sunday evening.

2022-07-02I would have liked to give 3.5 stars but i dont think theres a half star option. But onto the review. The ambiance and vibe of the place was nice. Staff was friendly and patient. But how was the food? Well overall Id say it was a little hit and miss. For example we started with the hushpuppies as a starter. The hushpuppies themselves were bland and tasteless, and very dry. The saving grace here was the maple butter dipping sauce. Without this sauce they would be almost inedible. However we also tried a 1/4 rack of ribs and they were actually quite good. Not a lot of meat on the bone but tasty nonetheless. Not worth $13 for 3 ribs though.Onto the main courses. I ordered the fried chicken with mac and cheese. Let just get this out of the way... The mac and cheese was delicious. Nice and gooey with breadcrumbs on top. Honestly one of the best macs Ive ever had. The chicken was also pretty good but Id fall short of calling it excellent. It could use a little more seasoning but i liked the fry on it and the meat itself was juicy and tender. My dining partner got the shrimp poboy with chips. I did try their meal so Ill give some thoughts. The shrimp poboy was pretty good but lacking a litttle pizazz. The bread was nice and soft and the shrimp was cooked well. I just think it could have used a little more of the roumalaoude sauce and maybe something else could be added to the sandwhich to make it a little more exciting. Solid sandhwich though. As for the chips... Well to be honest they were bland and lacked seasoning. Slightly overcooked too. Really they were only enjoyable when dipped in the BBQ sauces that accompanied the chicken. So in summary i think Southern Fare is a solid place to enjoy a meal. I dont think it quite lived up to the lofty reviews online but it was enjoyable regardless. Id give it a 3.5 with potential to improve with some slight tweaks.
