Super friendly, super helpful and let me play anything. Great stock, they have so many cool vintage guitars, and will let you play anything. Staff were very knowledgeable about their stock, and answered all my questions. Walked out with an old 60s Italian guitar and a free tee shirt!
Absolutely worst place to go to. Customer service is extremely nasty, very dismissive. I was cursed out and throw out of the store for asking too many questions buyer be aware!!!! Stay as far away as possible. If u plan on just coming to see their selection its impossible, they ask you as you walk in youre buying???? If u say you just wanted to look they give you the boot
Ive had the unfortunate pleasure of going to this guitar shop twice. the first time i went i was looking for a tuning peg, but what i got was a guy talking to me like I was the grease in his hair.the second time was on accident.i came around looking for left handed guitars on a whim, wandering town, and i was handed a big black mother on the wall behind the clerk--the only one, and the price something near the 2k.when i commented on the price, he said this is a vintage guitar shop. which i guess was supposed to explain why old guitar equipment that sounds like old guitar equipment is sold in a rich part of town. guess they could sniff out my wallet pretty well.this shop represents, to me, a lot of problems with williamsburg. Overpriced, arrogant despite not having a foot to stand on, as if I was talking to a bunch of store-clerk celebrities.i think the best thing you can do is wait for them to go out of business so they sell all their overpriced stock on the cheap. sign up for their newsletter if they have it, so you can know when the end is nigh.never met the guys who hang out in the back. sure theyre great.
I purchased two vintage J45s from SSG, both online. The first was a 49, about two and a half years ago; the second, a 46 that I just received last week. I have to say that my experience was nothing less than stellar. Both instruments were among the best Ive played and I found the prices to be much more reasonable than most, if not, any seller of vintage Gibsons. Ill also add that communication was excellent and Sam was a pleasure to work with.
I bought there an Orange Cube bass amp not too long ago. One day, the amp just didnt want to work. I took it with me and all I got was a rude We are not fixing amps at this moment. We are swampedA friend of mine came to visit and he replaced the fuse. Thats all it was. A fuse. They couldnt even bother to check the fuse.
UPDATE: My partner went to pick up the guitar, the technician again complained bitterly about the work hed have to do (removing super glue from a prior repair attempt, which is frankly a fairly easy thing to do according to Google). My partner told him, I guess we thought you guys did repairs for paying customers. Guess we were wrong... I advise you to try somewhere else, or youll be wasting your own time. these ppl are lazy at best, and a business that doesnt respect paying customers is definitely not worth supporting. and femmes beware - no proof, but my spidey sense says there could be some toxic masculinity at work in this joint. Also the southside people seemed to think the guitar was trash, but its actually a handmade Japanese guitar from a well respected craftsman. maybe they didnt know that or dont care to educate themselves on guitar makers outside of the western hemisphere? yikes...ORIGINAL: The technician literally refused to fix my guitar...I guess he thought it was too hard to repair because he kept complaining about the work hed have to do. Then when I said, Okay, but please go ahead and do the work, Ill pay whatever he seemed miffed for some reason and said that the guitar wasnt worth fixing. Im always anxious talking to music store dudes as a woman because they tend to be extremely condescending, and this was no exception. Srsly one of the more bewildering experiences Ive had ¯_(ツ)_/¯. Oh and it took about two weeks of waiting for the guy to get back to me to get my business turned down....I wouldnt waste your time.
Bought a pedal I didnt like, and 24 hours later returned it for exchange for another one, they charged me $3. restocking fee then put the pedal back into the glass case right in front of them. That move cost them my business. I will crawl thru the mud to get to Main Drag Music.

2022-02-16Really good people at Southside Guitars! I have done business with them several times over the years buying both guitars and basses from them. This most recent transaction resulted in my not being happy with the bass and there were zero issues returning it and they promptly did the return on my credit card, no questions asked. That gives me confidence that they are there for you even when you arent happy and that they take care of you no matter what the circumstances are. They are the utmost professionals and I cant say thank you enough. Class all the way!5 Stars!

2022-03-09Had an underwhelming experience with this store. They were by appointment only (understandable), and explained to me that I had to specify which guitars I wanted to try out, so that they could set them up beforehand (also understandable, and a nice gesture). When I got there, though, the three guitars that I had picked up were very obviously not set up — absolutely not in tune and the pickups were buzzing on two of the guitars. When I asked why that was the case, they told me that it was fixable through a setup — indicating further that nothing was done to the guitars in quite some time. By the time I came to the third guitar, the tuning was so off (by an octave) that I couldn’t bother to tune it, and after asking a couple of technical questions on the guitars (wood type, finish etc.) — none of which I could get satisfactory answers to — I respectfully walked out. Having biked from Manhattan, I didn’t want my trip to this awfully gentrified part of town to be a complete waste, so I dropped by Main Drag Music, by far a better store.

2021-12-22This store is my favorite in Brooklyn. The staff has always been helpful and nice and their gear is amazing. I played some incredible vintage guitars here. One thing I noticed is that all instruments are setup perfectly, which makes me think their tech is also very good. Recommended.

2022-02-19I dont have any idea what THEY are talking about. I do not have two young children and I was calm & ready to do business on this day. Here is my experience at this store & my review:Ive been in the music biz on all coasts & nationwide for over 4 decades; showed, shopped & worked in every city, and know guitar & gear as well as anyone. I asked to see two specific guitars, makes & models & a very nice, attentive young lady was happy to search inventory & retrieve items. She was on her laptop working on it when another (sales/mgr/owner?) guy & tech dude came from the back, threatened me & my bandmates, demanded we leave in profanity laced epithets. Shocked, I told the young lady I intended to pay cash & money was no object. The guy behind the counter was shaking & angrily demanded we leave yet again. The lady & another employee who was assisting her appeared nervous all of a sudden & looked at me like Dont ask... and shrugged. I assumed the angry guy was their boss & they were used to this volatile behaviour from him, so we rolled out. We were fully masked, vaccinated (not requested), professional & friendly, and prepared to purchase guitars & perhaps additional equipment & accessories. Never have I been treated like this EVER. Especially in a music instrument store where my experiences are generally chill, if not fun. The angry owner/mgr guy appeared to either be keyed up, aggitated or stressed out by something else going on. The two employees who were helpful & happy to help seemed to have their hands tied & unable to continue their service for us by the agitated owner guy, so it was no bad on them whatsoever. The tech guy who came out of the back threatened us with physical violence. I have no idea what their problem was, it happened very fast & I can only assume it was a case of mistaken identity or prejudice. Or something else, perhaps illegal or dangerous happening on the premises. I only post this review as buyer beware of such service indiscretions, for we were not even allowed to LOOK at the merchandise we were interested in purchasing. From what I did see, there were some decent pieces within view. We will be passing next time we are in the area if we see either of those volatile characters present. Im sorry to the nice, attentive employees that stood to make a considerable commission, if not a healthy tip, and referrals...as well as concert tickets. I encourage you both to seek employment elsewhere.

2017-05-27I called Earnest ahead of time about selling my Fender Banjo 54 and he was super nice. When I showed up, he had such a high level of customer service and super nice. This was refreshing after just coming back from Main Drag where they had attitudes and werent nearly as nice. Cant wait to come back and do more business with them, they are the best!

2020-10-30Big shoutout to Southside Guitars: I recently acquired a rare vintage Fender bass guitar from them. It was a demanding transatlantic export because of the fingerboard wood CITES declaration and the tensed global shipping situation. But Lo! and behold, not only was the communication flawless and transparent. The documentation (cites) was perfect, the shipment arrived fast and was very carefully packed. Every detail of the deal was exactly as described and promised.Last but not least the instrument sounds overwhelmingly great!A warm thank you to Sam, Luigi and all the great people at Southside Guitars!

2018-12-17The best guitar store Ive ever been to. They have a great selection of vintage gear, and the staff is super friendly and helpful. Theyre neither pushy nor condescending, which unfortunately is not the case at most guitar shops, in my experience.
