The absolute best vet in the area! Weve tried several and keep coming back here because the vets are so great with our pets. Their prices are minimally higher than a few others weve tried but it is so worth it for the quality of care you receive. Everyone who works here is so polite and friendly and amazing with our animals. They are very understanding of our nervous, excitable pits.
Always very polite and helpful on the phone. This was my first time I was allowed inside (due to Covid) with my dog since switching to here 2 years ago.Dr.O,Gorman was very helpful, ,answered my questions, and was good with my dog. I liked the report card when leaving. The assistant was also very nice. I do think they can lighten up on their strict COVID policies now that things are improving, but overall very satisfied.
My 3 adult cats are always seen here however,l havent really been satisfied with their care . I have been tolerant because of covid. Today I suddenly lost my 9-month-old female and when I called South towns to ask some general questions I was uncompassionately told they were not able to give me advice. No doubt will I find another vet.
This was my first visit with them. I had both of my girls there today. They are all so incredibly nice there. The girls at the front desk were very nice and pleasant. The vet took her time and explained every little thing to me in detail. I did not feel like I was bothering them with my questions and they were willing to answer all of my questions. Hands down this is a good vet and I am very pleased to be seen by them.
My experience with this vet. They are more worried about catching covid then providing the best care. I want to see the Dr in person. I want the dr to see and hear my concerns. I am sure Im not the only person that has an Addison dog but if the vet was knowledgeable with Addison he would of adjusted his meds or knew they offered a 1 month shot or knew that wrenching back and forth was a sign his levels were off instead we were told keep an eye on him. Like we are the professionals and we know what to watch for. I should of taken him somewhere else. Orchard park emergency knew in fifteen minutes what we should of known a month ago. We would of been able to help him sooner instead we had no choice hes gone. Rip sweet boy I hope and pray if you have an animal with addisons find them the best care and dont just settle.
We got a text telling us to call when we arrived. They they asked us a few medical history questions about our pet. Then came out to get her and brought her back out while we waited in car. The Doctor called us explained how examination went and how she did with vaccines.Southtown Animal Hospital is very professional and caring not only to your pet but to you also. We highly recommend them.
This was my first visit here. I needed a vet for my 12 year old adopted dog. The entire staff is so kind and professional. I was so nervous that Lenny would be scared but they gave him lots of treats and sat on the floor with him. Very thorough exam. You can tell they really love animals and are committed to taking wonderful care of them.It was nice to get a printout of my dog’s exam also.
When I brought Quigley in to the vet as a puppy, socialization and making him feel comfortable were prioritized. He loves going to the vet. Dr. Jacobi and Zgoda have answered all my questions and treated Quigley successfully. He had a lot of health issues as a puppy and we worked together to help him. I have used Southtowns with all my dogs. Always been happy with care!!
Amazing vets, my cat had been to two other vet offices previously for recurrent UTIs with no solution, Dr. Kandefer very quickly realized it was a kidney infection and got her on appropriate antibiotics. If he had not figured out what the other hospitals hadnt been able to, she surely would have lost years of her life. Very grateful that he helped my beloved girl so much! All the other doctors seem equally talented and kind!
Been going to Dr. Zgoda for many years now and she is wonderful and the staff is wonderful but the covid protocols are a little ridiculous at this point. I work in a medical facility and we let patients in without knowing their vaccine status and have been doing this the whole time. Its time to relax this protocol.
We have been taking our cats and dogs to Southtowns Animal Hospital for over 20 yrs. now and will not go anywhere else. Dr. Jacobi and fellow staff and doctors have been with us through it all and have been beyond professional and caring. I can not say enough about how great they all are. They treat us like family. VERY recommended!!!
Dr. kandefer has been with my family through the loss of two beloved pets. The latest was today, with my cat. My parents brought her in to end her suffering. Dr. Kandefer did everything he could to save her but was very honest about what it would look like if it was time to let go. My mom said he was so kind and compassionate, she held my cat as she died, he told them to take their time saying goodbye, and he even walked my parents out. I can’t thank him enough for making a sad experience bearable and giving us peace knowing he did everything he could.
I love every vet and tech in the building. In the last 6 months we have had so many issues including losing one of our fur babies (it was her time). They were so caring and kind. My other dog needed teeth removed and she’s quite beastly. They did everything to make sure she was comfortable when another vet may have said, “awe, he’ll no!” And finally, we have had multiple serious health issues with my 3rd pup and they have brought her back from halfway over the rainbow bridge each time. They have taken care of my babies for years, since Dr Winkle was there, and I just adore them!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
They are awesome with my cat Baby. They addressed all my concerns about her health! They were gentle with her. Baby gets a free weight check every 3 months also! I would recommend them to anyone looking for a great Vet experience for your fur baby, call Southtowns Animal.
Ive taken each of my 3 dogs here. Everything experience Ive had here has been a positive one. The staff is very friendly & the techs are amazing. You can tell they love what they do and really want whats best for your pet. Ive never waited more than 5 mins after checking in to be brought back, & when I did need a same day appointment because of an emergency, they got me in within an hour. Dr. Zgoda is really good, shes very thorough and was great with all my dogs. She always calls the next day to follow up & check on how theyre doing after their appointments. I would recommend them to everyone!
Guys, whoever is handling your Google listing needs to be changed. If it is the owner, stop, pay someone. If it is someone that works for you, get someone else to do it. If you are paying someone, fire them, and get a new company.Your responses to some of these 1 star reviews is atrocious. Making written excuses for all to read, rather than trying to make changes. It stopped me from bringing my dog here.
The only vet Ive taken my cat to since moving to Buffalo. Clean, friendly and cooperative. The are detailed in diagnostic visits and explaining everything. I am happy with this place. They even come out to the car to get us letting my very nervous kitty not have to go in the waiting room
Have only had a few visits but everytime has been really great. 6 weeks ago I called for weight loss advice for my cat, one of the vets left me a followup VM callback and emailed me with three feeding/kcal plans for dry food, wet or both. Thats just awesome. Today went smoothly with waiting in the car, them taking Louie at the door, the phone call with the vet followup in my car, and paying over the phone. Im so glad theyre only 10 mins from where I live. Everyone is friendly and helpful on the phone or in person and in my experience they are not product or random test-pushers like some animal hospitals, which is a huge consideration. I genuinely feel cared for.
Been taking my cat here for years, even after I moved to North Buffalo, I couldnt bear switching vets when the doctors know my cat so well. Theyve always been very attentive and thorough with my pet (a now 17 year old cat) and always walked me through everything so I was confident hed get the right treatment. Ive recently moved to another state and Im going to miss bringing my old man here! Thanks for all youve done for us :)
I have been bringing my dog here for 6 years and every single vet, tech, and front desk worker have always been so kind and helpful. When I was deciding on a vet, they even let me take a tour of the entire facility. Drs Jacobi, Zgoda, and Kandefer are all amazing! 10/10 recommend!
Been going there since 1992 when Dr.Winkle was there until December 26 2017 when I had to put my dogs down they were 17 years old and both had health problems. I could have kept one maybe a few more months but I felt they were born together, they played together and they died together. It was a very hard decision. Dr. Jacobi was just wonderful. I was going to get another dog but my sons dog started to come upstairs and he is with me most of time. My other son just got a dog and both go to Southtown Animal Hospital and they like it very much. I would recommend them for the care of your pet.
I worked as a surgical tech at a very busy animal hospital years ago. I left there to pursue another degree in the human medical world. So I have a pretty good knowledge of medicine and a “sixth sense” when someone or something is ill.I started taking my “pack” to Southtowns Animal Hospital when I moved to South Buffalo. My interactions have been with Dr. Jacobi. I’m very pleased with her and their staff. She’s great with my dogs, and when one got sick she saw him Friday afternoon and then called me Friday evening at 9:25 to give me the results of his blood work and tests. I was extremely impressed. The staff contacted me 2-3x over the next week to check on my dog.Unfortunately the same dog experienced a serious medical emergency several weeks later and after a consultation and work-up at a local emergency after-hours care center, I had to put him to sleep. That was at 4:00 am on a Thursday. The Emergency Vet sent my dog’s X-rays and physical report to Southtowns Animal Hospital the next day, (Friday). That evening I received another call from Dr. Jacobi - she had received and reviewed the report and was concerned and wanted to reach out to see if there was anything she could do.Although broken-hearted by my sudden unexpected loss, I could not be happier with the care, counsel and expertise I experienced with Dr. Jacobi. I sincerely hope she stays at Southtowns Animal Hospital for the duration of her career as I’ll continue to use her to see my pets for many years.
Bring my 10 yr old golden retriever here for acupuncture with Dr. Jacoby. She is so knowledgeable and friendly that we always have such a great experience. The only reason I didnt give 5 stars is that sometimes we get a room thats not very conducive for acupuncture, its in a higher traffic area and loud. They have a great room close to the waiting room thats quieter and more cozy and better suited for acupuncture, but we are not always in that room for treatment.
The Staff and Doctors here are GREAT!!!! We take all of our animals here....which all our animals our rescues and our last rescue was in pretty bad shape, and they took GREAT care of Rocky 2.0,, turned his health right around, and fast!!!! Also wasnt so bad on the wallet either!!!!
Nice place, weve been going there for years. My only gripe is the one woman vet there is TOTALLY incompetent. Everyone else is good but she wanted to euthanize our cat when he was constipated! She mis-diagnosed it as something else and told us we were not allowed to leave with the cat, no argument allowed. She would either perform this $4,000 surgery or put the cat down that minute. When she went home the new vet took over, gave him a laxative, and we brought him home. That was like 4 years ago and hes fine. Always get a second opinion if you get stuck with her, Dr Winkle is great though.
We have been patronizing Southtowns Animal Hospital since Dr. Hirt’s days…….all of our animals have received quality care and we have received excellent personal attention with our many questions and concerns.I am very impressed with the staff’s service, knowledge and personality. It is obvious they really love their job!
If I could I wouldnt even give them 1 star, unless they can make money off your animal, they wont see them. We have spent thousands of dollars between all our families animals. Few years ago my cat was very sick, older cat..called and asked if we could bring her in she may not have much time left. Wanna maybe get her to peace and not suffer anymore. U know its hard to even think about these things. But we know our animals. They said u cant bring her in to be put to sleep, I said I want her to be seen but I will see how sick she is. They would not let me make appt. I took her to my sister in laws vet in derby, and he agreed she was suffering maybe a month or so she would be gone. I was able to hold her and say goodbye all I wanted was her not to suffer anymore.. Recently my mother in law who took her cat there, called her cat was having breathing problems. Crying saying i think she is dying. They would not see her.. Said go to emergency vet..just had her dog at vet spent almost a grand, and had to put her down she was suffering. Yes terrible, weeks apart..She was so heartbroken they would not help her, we put her in carrier , headed to orchard park vet, she never made it.😭happy she wasnt suffering anymore, she didnt suffer long. But all the money u spend, and they make it impossible to see u at your time of need. Every time unless u want tests done and spend money.. PEOPLE KNOW THEIR ANIMALS , THEY R OUR CHILDREN..WE TRUST U WITH THEM U NEED TO TRUST US.. WHEN WE CALL FOR HELP TO PUT OUR ELDER PETS TO REST. AND STOP PASSING IT TO ANOTHER VET. WHEN U WONT MAKE ANY MONEY OFF OUR ANIMAL. HEARTLESS.. WE WILL NO LONGER BRING ANY OF OUR BABIES TO U. THE END. MY ANIMALS DESERVE THE WHOLE PACKAGE...
I’ve been taking my dogs here for about 5 years. We’ve never seen the same vet 2x - it seems like there’s a lot of turn-over.Recently, my 22# Shih-Tzu mix started acting like she had a UTI after getting groomed. Took her in for an appt: $38 for a urine sample (... they walked her out back and “caught a sample”), $66 to run the urinalysis, plus office visit and antibiotics: ~$177.Took in a re-check sample today: $66.Look, I was a vet tech for about 10 yrs - - that’s outrageous. It takes about 5-7 mins to run a sample. Part gets processed through equipment, and to look in a microscope for crystals, etc takes about 2 mins (if that).I left and took my re-check sample with me.That’s sad.I’m in the process of changing vets and just called and asked my records to be faxed to the new one. The woman on the phone didn’t care as to *why* I was changing vets. I get it, she doesn’t HAVE to care, but ultimately the CLIENTS are their bosses. Without clients/patients there’s no income, no income = no job. At the office where I worked the owner/vet actually had a “complaint form.” If someone called with a complaint we were instructed to listen patiently, get details and ask if it would be okay for the vet to call them. Some said “no,” A LOT said “yes.” And you know what? Him taking the time to reach out to unhappy owners retained a lot of business. A LOT.I understand that Southtowns have staff and overhead to pay (... their recent expansion into the big building next to them), but charging a 1-day take home salary for me ($66) to run a 7 minute urinalysis is cost-prohibitive for my budget. :-(UPDATE:Took my dog to the new Vet who said, “let’s snap a quick x-ray since you’ve already done 2 rounds of antibiotics and she’s still peeing everywhere.”Although she had no crystals in her urine, she was LOADED with bladder stones. 70+Surgery ($1,400) two days later. Not thrilled, but, at least I didn’t waste more money on antibiotics for what we thought was a UTI.Very happy with the new Vet.
Never had a major issue here, they were always fairly nice. Customer service is not their strength though. I was a veterinary technician for many years in CT, so I know this type of environment well. They are extremely expensive and will do anything they can to tac on extra charges. Dr. Tricia Bradsc was especially frustrating to me. I had to tell her several times about certain issues and she still forgot to address them and I left my appointment with no answers to certain concerns. I couldnt afford the $587 estimate they gave me, so I felt like she lost interest in me and pretty much didnt finish her appointment. She was supposed to come back and discuss and give me medication for my dog because he has anxiety when he travels. She never came back. They gave me, so I felt like she lost interest in me and pretty much didnt finish her appointment. She was supposed to come back and discuss and give me medication for my dog because he has anxiety when he travels. She never came back. She kept telling me she was going to do certain test, without asking me, so when they came back with the estimate I was overwhelmed with how much it was going to cost. She was very inconsiderate to my situation. I later had to talk with the manager of the hospital due to a charge I received that I wasnt aware of. She was a bit snooty and I didnt feel like arguing with her so I just said goodbye. Im moving out of state, but if I wasnt, I would never return to this hospital again.
I called because I gave my dog by accident a&d ointment instead of toothpaste both tubes look alike I realized it after I put it on his bone was less than a teaspoon. They advised me hed be ok no zinc was in it. My dog was ok I kept and eye on him for 24 hrs. They were VERY HELPFUL!!! And very understanding. I appreciated the help.
Im still too upset over the loss of my cat. I can tell you that i did not have an enjoyable experience here. Its been almost 2 months since ive been here and i feel i was never given the adequate information to treat my cat. I was told he had kidney failure. I was never told what his creatinine levels were. I was never told what level of failure he was in. I was never given his urinalysis results. I was also told my cat might have something going on with his liver but that was it. It was never discussed further. i had to ASK for all my cats bloodwork paperwork to find this out myself. That should of been a red flag. Other vets ive been to sit down with me and show me the paperwork and tell me what certain things mean. I asked one of the techs why i never got his results and they told me they dont give paperwork unless you ask for it. What?? What am I paying for? The techs act as if they are just there to work because they need a check. They have no compassion at all about your pet. There was one or two girls there who seemed genuinely concerned but that was it. I could only come in evenings because im at work all day and every time they would give me a different Dr. for my cat. I had 3 different vets at one point. It made me very uncomfortable. One vet told me to do one thing for my cat while the other said something completely different. The one vet even said something about my cat having a heart murmur which i was never told. I was also told that I could feed him whatever he wanted if he wasnt eating the prescription food. I thought this was odd. It was just the worst experience ive ever had with a vets office. They are supposed to guide you and tell you what the best choices are for your pet. I felt as if they did not care about my cat because he was older and that I was wasting their time. I should of went somewhere else. I want people to be aware.
This may get a bit long, but I have a story to tell. We have been taking our cats to Southtowns Animal hospital for over 9 years. She had always been healthy until last Sunday when she suddenly started crying out in pain and would cower away from her food. Monday(8/31/15) afternoon I called Southtowns and took her in to be checked under the care of Dr. Bradac. After a plethora of tests (blood work, x-rays and a urine analysis) it was speculated that my cat had a urinary tract infection. While I was skeptical as to why this has caused her to scream and cower away from her food, I am not a qualified veterinarian so off we went back home with antibiotics and an over $500 bill! Upon returning home my cat refused to eat, drink, continued to cry, was no longer “eliminating” of any kind and not using one of her back legs. On Wednesday(9/2/15), I called the office again and my husband took the cat back in. While there it was discussed that due to a heart murmur she may have a blood clot that traveled to her leg which is why she wasn’t using the leg. My husband was given many options as to how to treat the blood clot, including euthanasia. Due to our young children, we decided to give her a fighting chance. She stayed at the hospital for IV fluids in hopes of breaking up the clot. Later in the day Dr. Bradac called my husband before she went home and retracted her diagnosis and decided that without a doubt the cat was constipated!! I almost euthanized my cat because she was constipated?? Again, we took the cat home with more meds ($180 pain med this time), prescription soft food and another $400 bill. On Friday the vet did call to check on the cat and suggested an enema which we just couldnt justify. Today, (Saturday 9/5/15) the cat continued to not eat, only laid under the bed, was still not using her back leg, and hadn’t gone to the bathroom since being at the vet on Wed. I called the vet to see if there was another doctor available for another opinion because I just couldn’t shake that the cat wasn’t simply constipated. I was strongly encouraged to go to Orchard Park Veterinary Medical Center because Southtowns closed at 1:00 and they were just going to refer us to OP anyway. Again, we packed up an anxious, limp cat and off my husband went with hopes that a second opinion would give us answers. With tears in my eyes, I looked at my girls and thought what do I tell them if my husband doesn’t call with good news. At Orchard Park Vet the staff was amazingly attentive, used her lab work from Southtowns and determined there was absolute no way this cat was constipated! Her bowels were completely empty!! It was determined that she somehow had injured her leg and was resting to heal herself. Thankfully we brought all her prescriptions with us to show the vet if needed. We found out then that she no longer needed the antibiotic because there was no urinary tract infection and the pain meds were prescribed almost four times the necessary dosage!!! While feeling relieved that the cat is receiving the proper care, my husband came home with not only the appropriate knowledge of medicating the cat, but also feelings of anger and resentment at Dr. Bradac who cared for our family pet inappropriately. Since returning home a few hours ago and not being over medicated our cat has come out from under the bed and is interested in eating her non-prescription food. Needless to say we will not be returning to Southtowns Animal Hospital. I’m so happy our cat seems to be on the mend I can’t help but thinking our $1,100 bill could have been cut it half with a proper diagnosis from a better suited veterinarian. The staff at Southtowns are very nice and polite, but their vets leave something to be desired.
I cannot express my discontent with southtowns small animal hospital. I am broken hearted and my cat is no longer with me. She was diagnosed with feline asthma, charged aver $400 and were given a prescription of meds to treat it. After a week, no change. Another visit, another $400, another change in meds and a still no change. After a third visit, another $400 or more dollars and a referral to Orchard Park Veterinary Hospital, my cat is dead. After $2000, No one at either facility could properly diagnose her issue. She had no prior medical conditions and was a house cat her entire life. If you want to live with killing your pet unnecessarily, then take them there. If not, find a properly trained staff and Veterinary doctor. To this day, we still dont know what was wrong with her and with the holiday weekend, could not find another vet in time to rescue her. Money hungry facility that is not properly trained. Stay away. Thats all I have to say.

2022-06-20We bring all of our fur babies to Southtowns, and when I say all, I mean all nine of them and counting! We love the knowledgeable veterinarians and professional staff. We wouldnt go anywhere else to have our pets seen. The wait to get in can be lengthy, but thats to he expected. The wait is totally worth the service.

2022-08-06The staff are a great group of animal lovers who truly care about their patients care as well as their owners. Dr. Kandefer has always gone the extra mile to research and develop a care plan. He helps us treat my American Bulldogs cancer with a realistic and well researched approach. The same dog that was refused treatment by other veterinarians because they never spent the time to develop a relationship with the dog and address the dogs weariness ans fears. They will always be my number one choice.

2022-08-17I took my dog Luna to Southtowns for the first time this week and they were incredible! They were very gentle and made sure she was comfortable before starting the exam. They even did the entire exam on the floor instead of putting her up on the table!

2022-04-20The staff are amazing here and I love the fact that at the end of the appointment they give you a rating scale of how your pet is doing in several categories. Plus their pricing isnt that different from West Side Pet Clinic, which was where I used to go.

2022-04-20Great service friendly staff in and out in timely manner. Expect at least $160 -200 for basic service such as heart worm test ,bordatella and wellness exam, sorry for misspelling .

2022-02-26The vet team was great with my dog! She gets nervous in vets office and they sat on the floor with her before the exam. They chatted with me about her allergies and nothing felt forced, they made suggestions and let me do some research on my own. Im so appreciative of their approach and am glad I made the switch to Southtowns. This was the first ever vet visit where my dog accepted treats from someone and it was after everything was done! Thank you!

2020-02-22My first time taking my Jesse here, couldnt get into my normal vet, my dog had a fall and couldnt walk, so it was 5 minutes from my house, called and they gotten me right in. Dr. Jacobi took care of my fur baby. I can not express enough, how truly wonderful, kind, and understanding, she was. I feel she was a God sent to for me n my Jesse. She was patient, and explained everything thoroughly, gave me options, and I felt my baby was in good hands, for the first time in years. Im so grateful for Dr. Jacobi and her staff, all so wonderful. Thank you for helping my fur baby, and helping us feel we definitely are in great hands. 💚

2017-11-07They are the best in the area. Very kind and understanding, very knowledgeable, always ready to have us in for an appointment (and always same-day if needed). They are so good with our pets.
