Delicious meal with fantastic service! I felt like we were taken care of extremely well by the staff. Our waiter Miguel was top notch and will request him again whenever I return.A surprise cocktail was crafted for me which was perfect (would highly recommend the pomegranate martini). The house wine was fine but nothing to write home about. The bourbon cocktails were also fantastic.Well worth the price but definitely a venue for more special occasions. For appetizers, we ordered the mozzarella and tomato dish as well as the mixed vegetable salad. Both were delicious. Served with olive oil and vinegar. For the main entrees, we ordered the filet mignon and strip steak medium rare plus. They looked slightly on the undercooked side but it didnt taste like that. It tasted fantastic! The filet was quite thick but melt in your mouth delicious. Would definitely recommend the filet over the strip steak but its also a personal preference. We also got a side of brocolli, asparagus, and sauteed onions. All tasty. Didnt think the sauteed onions were necessary for the filet but perhaps for the strip steak.Dessert was walnut pecan pie a la mode with a side of coffee. Delicious.
I hope I dont ruin it for everyone but... prices at this level for this place is too cheap. I figured it was the price per ounce not the full steak! 16 ounce filet mignon for under $70 is unheard of. I was prepared to spend $1000 for dinner and it was less than $200 with tip for 2 people.
Great experience all around, a perfect, well-rounded steak house with service just as great as the food. To start, they give you the exactly what you deserve for your money. Every time I eat here I am always taken away by the fine quality of each and every dish. However what really sets them apart is the hospitable staff. Mr. Sayed is the best! Every time that my family and I visit, he always takes care of us as if we are family. We really appreciate his hospitality. Would 100% recommend this steakhouse without any hesitation.
I’m not a fan of giving one star to a restaurant, but this was a terrible experience. Our waiter acted like we didn’t exist. My wife was able to get another glass of wine, but our waters were never refilled. The steak was okay, but not worth the service you’ll get. We should’ve known better when we walked inside. The only restaurant we’ve been to in NYC that wasn’t busy. Just very disappointing for the amount of $$$$ you spend.
Average food, average wine list, average prices. No ribeye on the menu...what in the world?!You are really doing yourself a disservice by not going to Gallaghers or Keens for the true NYC steakhouse experience cause this aint it.Dont get lured by historical fiction. Food should be memorable for $300~ pricetag.
Had the most amazing experience at STK! Went there to celebrate my birthday and the service was the least to say exceptional! Kris was amazing, his superior knowledge of the menu, wine and hard liquor just completed the whole experience! If you’re lucky to have him as your server just go with the things he recommends we fully enjoyed every single bite and sip. 10/10 will go back!
Really thought SPARKS was a name but just surviving on the past reputation and history in midtown. Been at least 25 years for me as a native. The meal was awesome, shockingly surprised. Lugers, Wolfgang’s very good, but it was about the steak and the service.. server RASHEED is a true professional and is a solid 25 yr veteran there and NESTOR really cares about his operation. The steak had flavors that I can’t remember experiencing locally in the past decade (everything was great by the way ). We will definitely make this our new local goto spot. Thanks again to Danny Meyer and AMEX for reintroducing me to this NYC classic institution.
So where do I start? Sparks is the type of CLASSIC steakhouse that doesnt disappoint!! The food, service and atmosphere are all 5 star +... Our server was above and beyond the finest I have ever had. They have a wine list that caters to every price point. We enjoyed a modest priced pilot noir that was AMAZING!!! Give Sparks a try it is true classic NYC!!
Came here with my girlfriend while on vacation around Memorial Day. We came here for a pre-birthday celebration and had a 9pm reservation. The wait staff ruined the experience. Clearly the goal was to get us out of the empty restaurant as quickly as possible so they could close. We were rushed with everything, making the experience uncomfortable at best. No explanation of the menu, no recommendations, just the wine menu dropped in my lap and an annoyed look on the guy’s face. The waiter never checked on us after the meal was served so we sat with empty drinks for most of the meal. Food was fine but I can get a better steak and far better service for the same price or less. Will not return.
I am an avid steakhouse goer. Ive heard the hype and history of Sparks. We even hosted a bday in their downstairs private room. Pros: the history, service and atmosphere is very old school NY steakhouse. Decent wine list and good cocktails. Cons: their steakhouse portions are entirely too big to the extent they lack flavor and juice. I like a good steak but the cut is so enormous it is more about quantity than the quality of the steak and its flavor. Both times we were hoping for better but disappointed with the steak, and that is why we came. Both times i tried the filet they were both fry and fatty. I have heard the lamb chops are good, so Id recommend sticking with that
Wonderful dinner, exactly what I expect from a steakhouse. Although the service is a bit sloppy at times (the waiter brought wine with wine dripping down the side of the glass, leaving a mark on the table, threw down the butter plate so that butter spilled out onto the table), the food more than made up for that. The only thing that was questionable was the bread, which was tough and tasted a bit metallic. It saved us room for yummy food though. Even the simple green vegetable salad was super flavorful and light, great way to start the meal. Crab meat and scallops were perfectly seasoned and light. And the main dishes were amazing. Lobster was flawless, no need to even dip in the butter sauce since it was bursting with flavor. Steak was cooked well, but a bit more burnt on the outside than I usually like. Mashed potato was like liquid gold, so creamy, smooth, and rich. The simple dessert of berries and vanilla ice cream was the perfect way to end a great dinner. It’s such a simple combination but somehow, the restaurant elevated it even more. It’s understandable why Sparks is one of the top rated steakhouses in NY.
I got excited when I found out that a work event will be held at Sparks Steakhouse. Sparks is another understated NYC icon and one of the last remaining steakhouses in midtown Manhattan.Upon entering I was greeted with a huge dining hall, the maître d’ directed patrons in which party or event they were attending to their tables. Our table for a party of 20 was at the back area of the restaurant. Since the event is a pre-fixe dinner, the menu was already ready at the table presented with an elegant table setting. We started the dinner with homemade bread with butter and I selected fresh Bufala mozzarella with tomatoes and mint leaves. Since my eyes caught the filet mignon I ordered a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon with it. The steak was the specialty of this place. It was crispy and crusty from the outside and juicy from the inside, the meat melted in my mouth for every bite.We then concluded the dinner with a slice of New York cheesecake served with fresh strawberries. It was also one of the best cheesecakes I’ve had in a while. It was a lovely dinner to be had. This place is perfect for parties, events, or even date nights. This place is highly recommended.
Not a real steakhouse. Great if you want the old school New York flair and charm but if you are looking for a good steak this isnt it. Only two steaks on the entire menu, a sirloin and filet. Better off spending your money at one of the many other authentic old school steakhouses.
Ambiance is very traditional. The location is walkable from Time Square. The restaurant was busy and loud on a Monday night. The service was good but because I wasn’t drinking wine my refills were slower. The food was huge portions, the presentation was great and the food was all flavorful. We had crab and scallops appetizers that were incredible, steaks and fish that were large portions and tasted amazing. It is an expensive meal but you get the quality with this food.
So my steak was well done when I ordered medium rare. Disappointing. I could have had them redo but I didnt. Sides were surprisingly unseasoned but that complemented the steak that was in the salty side great desert. Terrible coffee. Gets bumped to 4 stars for atmosphere. There is a reason its not my favorite steakhouse though.
I was definitely expecting less, but I was proved wrong. This place is really really really good! The service was perfect, the food was incredibly delicious (thumbs up for one of the best mozzarellas Ive had in a restaurant) and the ambience was great. This is one of the places that are getting into my must-visit NYC list.Be careful with the Steak Fromage if you are not a fan of strong cheese!
Not the most expensive ny Steakhouse by any means but youll get the full atmosphere and experience. The staff are top notch and the mignon was perfect. The side selection was kind of mid tier so i wouldnt put them above del friscos or delmonicos, but would rate them ahead of smith and wolenskys
BEST SIRLOIN I EVER HAVE!!! Their signature sirloin is better than filet (look at my 1st photo for comparison. The sirloin in medium rare is super sweet and so so so good. I havent have a good steak for a long time and this is an AWESOME treat! The lamb chop was not bad. The Chianti wine was a good pairing. Yeah get the hash brown its good.Sometimes you may catch a celebrity during dinner so have your eyes peel and cameras out. I saw Shaquille ONeal during one of my visits. Hes super TALL!!
The food was delicious. We ordered the sea bass which was super light and flaky. My husbanded ordered the steak which was awesome! However the waiter was not warm or welcoming. I almost ordered a bottle of wine but that would have been too much for me. We asked about smaller portions (by the glass) and all our waiter offered was the type of wines. No menu for drinks. Then I saw a neighboring table and they were having cocktails. So I said to the waiter I would like to have a cosmo. He brought it and it tasted like cough syrup. I sent it back b/c it was terrible, the waiter proceeded to tell me it was vodka and cranberry, etc. in a condescending manor. As if I did not know how cosmos are made. I was annoyed and just ordered a dirty martini which was much better. When the food came out - the servers were SO MUCH NICER AND KINDER than my waiter! The kicker was as we were leaving, my husband wanted to take a Picture by the Christmas tree. This is where I saw they had half bottle menus!! Why did my waiter not offer me that?? I left there even more upset. In looking around, it is definitely old school traditional Italian environment. The waiters all seemed to be older gentlemen and the servers were young Hispanics. Hmmm….. I also noticed that my waiter was really nice and conversational with other patrons (white guy eating alone). Who knows, maybe he was a regular. My husband brought the issue to the host at the door and he understood and apologized.I would not go there again just because of the treatment.
My experience with SSH is so rich and deep that I wouldnt know where to start. I began enjoying the great juicy steaks and the 5-star service and ambiance of Sparks back in 1997. Doing the math, its 20 years of dining at the top of the world. I have the fortune of having experienced it throughout the year and under different environmental conditions (in the winter, in the summer, with steak lovers, with vegetarians, with cigar aficionados and, last but not least, seafood lovers). Not once, let me state this again, NOT ONCE, was I ever let down or failed to impress (and to be impressed) by the perfect piece of Kabuki Theatre, that is the interaction between the Maitre D, the bartenders, the waiting staff (at all levels), and the kitchen. Now, my review could stop right here and you would know that if you wanted to be treated like royalty, SSH would be the place to be BUT, on top of that, Sparks has never ceased to provide me with the perfect-meat standard against which I would rate all of my other carnivorous experiences.I ate terrific steaks in New Orleans, Dallas, DC, Miami, Boston, Montreal, not to mention the many other NYCs specialized establishments (and I kept at North America because that is the home of proper Steak Houses). NONE other was able to provide me with the excellence of Sparks choices, and quality across the board (seafood, red meat, vegetables, desserts, wine and even hot beverages). You know, back in the 1990s, a then-significant other happened to be vegetarian. I wanted her to experience Sparks but was afraid she would just not get it. Lo and behold, she was offered a vegetarian option that, to this day, remains one of the most delicious servings of vegetables I ever tasted in my life. She (the vegetarian) was equally guilty of her eating habits during a visit at the now-defunct Lutèce and there too she, and I by association, experienced incredible vegetables (it was small pumpkins, I reckon) but thats another story and for another review. So, let me try to get back to the core and conclude this. I have had filet-mignons, sirloins, prime-ribs, salmons, baked potatoes, hashed potatoes and many other delicious gastronomic nuggets and my memory of it all is so vibrant that I am salivating simply by writing about them. If push comes to shove, I would go for Sirloin (medium-rare) but I know of friends who would swear by the filet-mignon or the ribs, or the lobster (different strokes for different folks, I guess). There is one last thing I want to add, before I hit the publish button, though. Another aspect which left a long-lasting, and outstanding, memory on me is the amount and gravitas of the personalities I ran into at Sparks. I am not starstruck, by any mean, but over the decades, I have run into then-French President Jacques Chirac (coming out of a private room during the UN General Assembly in September), Gregory Peck, John Hammond Jr. and many, many more. You might not trust me but do you really think that, say, Gregory Peck, with all of his expertise, fine taste, and riches would settle for anything less than the absolute best?Go to Sparks with confidence, Ill be looking forward to reading your future raving reviews.
Skip this overrated excuse of a steak house.. Lump crab and bay scallops stuffed clams were horrible. Ceaser salad was tasteless lettuce and to pay six dollars for anchovies that should come with Ceaser salad was a outrageous. The steak was cooked correctly but nothing out of this world. Lobster was big but average and little over cooked. Cream of spinach had zero flavor and hashed browns were hashed browns. They need to work on steak sauce. The best part of the meal was the ice cream. Overall we spent over 550 for 3 people. So disappointing. I dont mind spending money on quality food, but this was far from that. Back to Peter Luger for me where the money is far worth the quality and the consistency is superb.
Absolutely perfect. We had a Caesar salad and fresh mozzarella with tomatoes for sharing appetizers, and both were served to each of us. For dinner I had the Steak Fromage and it was amazing! So heavenly. My dining companions ordered a sirloin and filet for their cuts and both said their meat was phenomenal. For dessert, we had berries and cream and chocolate mousse cake, and again, heavenly. The service was impeccable.
You go for the mobster history, but stay for the amazing food. The seafood is fresh and the steaks are huge. Considering it is New York, I didnt find the prices to be too bad (especially considering the servings are quite gracious). Fun random fact, the technology in the restroom is really cool. Im a bit of a germophobe so it was right up my alley
I think my expectations may have been too high for Sparks. It’s definitely good steak and a fun atmosphere, but it really wasn’t that special. The Caesar salad was just the same as any other Caesar salad I’ve had, but that clearly isn’t what would define a steakhouse. I thought that while the size of the filet is great, it wasn’t all that flavorful or well cooked considering the reputation that Sparks has. The filet was actually burned in a lot of places. The middle was very tender, and cooked nicely, but it still wasn’t that flavorful. I was pleasantly surprised with how tasty the mashed potatoes were, but I was once again let down by the service. It wasn’t bad but it just got the job done, and basically was just checking off a box. Overall, the atmosphere is fine, and the food is pretty good as well. I’d give this place a try if you haven’t been here before, but I’m not sure that I’ll go back in the near future.
If I could give zero stars, I would. I did a lot of research to try to take my best friend to a steak dinner for his birthday. However, this was without question not only the worst steak dinner that I have ever had, but the worst meal I have ever had (free or paying for it) period. We ordered the prime sirloin steak, asparagus, potatoes (hash brown), onions, and creamed spinach. The asparagus literally had no flavor (seemed just boiled), the the creamed spinach had no flavor, the onions were ok and the hash brown potatoes were oily, greasy, seemed old and were deplorable. The steak was the biggest disappointment; specifically, it was cheap quality meat and a majority of it was burnt. My friend ordered a coke and it was beyond watered down with about 46 pieces of ice in it. For dessert, we had the chocolate mousse and the walnut pecan pie; the mousse was good, the pecan pie seemed old and something that you could buy at a grocery store. Also, the pie was literally the size of two thumbs- total rip off.For those looking for a great steak dinner experience, look elsewhere. While the ambience of the restaurant is cool, how this restaurant is rated almost 5 stars is beyond me. I literally would not eat here if the meal was free. To sum up this post, the spark was missing from this dinner.
I had a pleasant time here. Waiter was from the old school. He was off the day Gotti did the famous hit there. The oysters were fresh and the steak was great. Although not the best (Eddie Vs is the best to me), I would love to come back here and enjoy the old school New York ambience there.
Sparks Steak House is an amazing restaurant. My steak was perfect. My wifes lamb chops were like no other. They were extremely moist and the fat on the chops were rendered out perfectly. The staff was nice, helpful, and very aware of what needed to be taken care of on the table. For any of you mafia fanatics this is the place to go. The waiter gave us a little history lesson on the mob side of things. It was all perfect. I do recommend dressing nice when going for dinner. Shorts, tennis, or jeans just dont cut it. Keeps the place and experience classy.
Let me see this box is a definitely a New York Steakhouse institution with that being said it definitely shows the only real problem I have with this Steakhouse was that it was outdated oh, theres a certain Nostalgia for old cool New York feel when you walk into a Steakhouse but the menu the decor are still from the 70s the prices are very current though🤣 where everything was delicious dont get me wrong its definitely an experience you will enjoy understanding as you covered but the prices and the portions and the lack of diversity in a menu well then get me from sitting here anytime in the near future. FYI I got the filet mignon and it was the biggest one Ive ever had and in a Steakhouse in New York and it was delicious.
We are from Upstate and it was our first time here. We have to say, from beginning to end, the staff service were absolutely amazing. Covid protocols in place, we felt safe, we felt comfortable and felt like family. The steaks were amazing, as were our sides, appetizers and desserts. The chef even came out to talk to us ! We would definitely make this our go to each time we come down. Thank you Sparks for an amazing experience.
Sparks Steak House is the tops when it comes to service and food. You wont find a better steak. The staff here is amazing. Really cares about giving people a really wonderful experience. The atmosphere here is amazing. Just the history is enough to lure you in but the steaks are truly a sight to behold.Seasoned perfectly, cooked to perfection. And a wine list that goes on for days.... we joked the wine list is three times the length of the menu.
Lobster was great, steak was on the dry side. Service took forever - and server never refilled our glasses with water. From appetizer to dessert, he never once re-filled our glasses. Not were we asked if we needed anything else, or how everything was. Horrible service.
Yet another incredible dinner at Sparks -- the Ambiance, the Food, the Service, and the Wine List are all still the Best. I highly recommend Sparks for anyone looking for a Top-Shelf dining experience. My party of 10 for dinner on May 20 was graciously accommodated by the very professional team at Sparks.Rachid and his Team did a fantastic job on a very busy night and I must saythat it was one of the best times I have ever had at Sparks. My clients werevery impressed and pleased with the setup in the Rose Room and the food was, asit always is, very tasty and beautifully prepared.I would also like to extend a special thank you to Sal and Sayed who helped make this evening of client entertainment at Sparks a very enjoyable experience for usall.I hope to visit this very fine establishment in the near future.
Fantastic experience! This classic steakhouse has a very old-world restaurant vibe. The large dining room is patrolled by an experienced and friendly staff. Our server, (Ergan, I think?) really made us feel at home. The dinner menu was beautifully simple - perfectly balancing beef and seafood. The wine list is quite extensive and had hundreds of bottles. Baked clams and shrimp scampi appetizers were delicious and strongly recommended. The sirloin steak was huge! and tasted phenomenal, as did all the sides. If you make it this far and still have room for dessert, the ice cream and fresh fruits are exquisite.
Old school steakhouse with classic and thorough service. It was very good but the meal was a step behind other high end steakhouses in the area. The menu options arent as robust with fewer cut and side options. Still very good, just not on the top level. Its perfect if you want to travel back to a more classic time.
[Originally posted on Yelp]Great steak (the important part!) and attentive service, though I would agree with another review that the staff can often come off as overbearing. The classic decor makes this restaurant a great place for events. However, it can get quite loud, especially on a work night when whole offices might come out for dinner. Ive found myself having to talk loudly into peoples ears to be heard above the din. But overall, this is a great steakhouse with a nice atmosphere, and Ive enjoyed all of my dinners here.
I give this place 3 stars because the waiter recommended that I get the prime rib and it wasnt nearly as good as HPR. I wish I would have tried a steak. Maybe when I come back the star will go up.Prime rib - was a nice cut and flavorful but not as tender as I like it. It wasnt as marbled as Id like. I had to use sauce to keep to my liking :(Sides were good, the mashed potatoes were flavorful and nice, spinach was just ok.Service was great, atmosphere was very classy and nice. We came here because HPR was booked out for months and we wanted a nice steak.I would come back, they have some nice aged steaks Id like to try.Updates to come
By far, the most expensive steak Ive ever purchased... but also the best!!! Adam wasnt our server, but was so nice. I asked him about the tool he was using to clean our table, he asked if I liked it, I said yes, and he just gave it to me! So nice, great guest service! Thank you again, Adam!! Everyone else was great too.. would recommend highly. Great wine choices as well (:
Sparks Steak House was one of the best meals that I’ve ever eaten! Ambiance and service were both beyond exceptional. The classic decor felt like a journey back in time. While sitting in our corner table, I pondered how many mobsters had sat in the same seat and what they talked about. This was a truly outstanding dining experience!
A little pricey but well worth it. The service is excellent and the steak may be the best Ive ever eaten. I dont like my steak to be flavored with marinades, or sauces, or too many spices. I like the steak to taste like a steak. Sparks knows how to make a thick steak melt in your mouth.
This venue has a great location. It has a very traditional ambiance. The waiter was very nice and friendly despite the fact that the restaurant was busy. We were so glad that the food was served in big portions and presented great. The steaks and the fish we ordered tasted delicious. It is an expensive meal but you get a quality food in return.
Best steak I think I have ever had. The place isnt cheap, they dont offer every cut, the decor is old school 20s bordello -- so what!! The food is incredible, and by that I mean the steak is perfect. I ordered mine medium rare and it came charred on both sides and perfectly cooked inside while being the most tender strip I have ever had. If you dont go to this place at least once, you have cheated yourself out of one of the best steaks in the world, and certainly a contender for the best.
Ate here on our trip in October, and the steaks were the best weve ever had. We would highly recommend it, but be prepared to pay handsomely. We had two steaks, two sides, a bottle of wine, two desserts (again delicious) and a glass of American port and a B&B. The bill came to $265 before the tip. Worth it in my opinion though.
I almost never write reviews on Google, but this place made me do it - and it made it with its excellence. The food is of the highest quality. Even raspberries taste special! I have not tried the lobster, but the steaks are all good - the meat is just melting in your mouth. Another huge advantage is the style - this is not a place for t-shirt boys, but a nice, elegant restaurant. A great gateaway for some style and amazing cuisine!
A great experience. The place to visit to be a part of the famous mafia hit. The food does not disappoint. The steak was cooked to perfection. The desserts were flavorful. The ambiance was fun and vibrant. The staff was on point. The floor managers were active in ensuring a great experience for the patrons.
This is by far one of my favorite places to eat! The steaks are cooked perfectly every time! The Caramelized Onions taste like candy, the Mushrooms are so buttery and the Shrimp Cocktail taste very fresh! The manager always has great advice on which wine to choose for dinner depending on your taste and what you are eating for the evening. If I had to pick 1 place to eat at for the rest of my life, Sparks would be it! The history of the restaurant is also very interesting.
We went in late night for a steak. Service wasnt great right off the bat, we had to seek out the host to get a seat. Our server was pretty crass, even for NYC service, which is generally bad anyways. He recommended the sirloin which I ordered. They had no soup on the menu and the only salad they could make was big for two. So I passed. The food came out fast and was a HUGE portion. The steak was ok, but certainly not up to par for a high quality steakhouse. Overall the service was not good and the food was sub par. We wont go back.
Absolutely top notch. Service is impeccable, food, if you love your steak and some seafood, is perfectly prepared. Wine list is fantastic. Its hard to say more. Table of 7 was expertly taken care of. No waiting and they were so attentive at all times. Not cheap but such a great experience.
If your lucky enough to eat at this restaurant that’s one thing. However if your lucky enough to eat here and have Robert as your waiter/server whom has worked here for 21 years. Then once you leave this unbelievable establishment you may want to buy a lottery ticket because you can’t get any luckier than that!Timothy R Root
I’ve cooked better steaks, I’ve had better service. Apparently a former mob hangout that has seen its glory days come and go... NYC or not it was priced high for what we received; my steak was a good cut but it was bland, but there was lots of over cooked/fatty/inedible parts on mine; waiters making mistakes with food after not writing anything down??? Com’on man you’re not that good; it was just odd and I guess from all the reviews I expected much better.
Outstanding in everyway! Warm rolls to start, wine list with 1000+ choices, great steaks prepared with a crust on the outside and made to order (medium-rare) on the inside, just perfect. Dessert with berries added onto the mousse cake. Service impeccable! They add a second table cloth and remove the one from the main course before dessert with and unique bit of folding. Kind of cool. Youll pay for this experience, but its worth it and it will impress the party youre with.
The food was good and portions were big but the noise level was also very big. Had the 5lb lobster which needed to be cooked a little more and some source of heat for the butter would have made the last bites more pleasant too (takes a while to eat all that lobster!!??😂) overall had a good time.
Great value and taste for steaks, sides are well portioned and tasty, in fact everything was delicious. However, ambiance and service was a bit lacking. This is where I thought they havent upgraded for the last 20 years. I ordered the prime sirloin and it was 14 oz, the filet mignon was closer to 20 but not trimmed thoroughly, however both were delicious. I think they have enough of a reputation because it was packed on a Monday, and it hurts me to give 4 stars but I have to given the sub par service.
Went for Valentines day dinner and had baked clams, buffalo mozzarella, baked potato, creamed spinach, and filet mignon. Food was excellent and the servings, particularly the steaks, were large. Cocktails were less expensive than expected and decent-sized as well. Would definitely like to go back. Its also a good idea to make reservations.
I celebrated my nomination last night in this gorgeous place. happy to tell that we had a cool evening and the place was undoubtedly the reason for the happy evening. The waiters cooperated in a graceful style, the cooking was appetizing and my friends were very glad. We shall surely return for more events. Thank you very much.
Stay away if you are not WHITE!!! Great piece of meat but a bad steak and ruined experience by the lazy waiters. ( a tall fat, baldy at mid 40s)Stay away from this restaurant if you are not white. We were seated for 10 minutes and no one gives a damn about us. While another white couple was immediately offered menu water and bread. Finally when I ask around a few waiters about who is our waiter; someone came(after they standing around and talking for 5 minutes) to ask us what we want to drink without given us a menu! They seem to be more interested in talking amongst themselves rather than provide service to customers. We have been to many steak houses around the world and this is absolutely the worst experience we have ever had at any price level!!For the food, meat quality is good but badly cooked, I asked for a rare steak and was given a bleu. Apparently they don’t know how to cook steak in a so called high end steak house. But again, great restaurant if you are white.
One of my best dining experiences ever! We ordered the sirloin steak and had it cooked medium rare Pittsburgh style (charred on the outside) and boy was it delicious. Sliced to share between the (3) of us along with a shared 3 lb Maine Lobster. The waiters removed the lobster meat from the shell for us and provided clarified real butter for each of us. Caeser Salad was delicious and service was amazing. We will return again. Such an incredible meal. I LOVE Sparks Steak House. Better than Ruths Chris!
Just dined here with my family. To start the waiter was really rude. He didnt greet us and was extremely pushy. He kept trying to get us to buy appetizers and sides that we didnt want. When my brother in laws appetizer came, he slammed the plate down on the table. Our entrees were mediocre. All of the steaks were over charred and the insides were unevenly cooked. The fish was unseasoned and bland. The hash brown potatoes were also really burnt. The only good thing was the mashed potatoes (which could easily be made at home). When I had left a tip on the credit card receipt, our waiter took it and went to a table next to us to take a peek at how much we left him. This is poor etiquette. I am extremely disappointed with my experience as I have heard so many great things about this steakhouse.
Whether as a single diner or in a group, Sparks never fails to impress. Both food and service are excellent and the atmosphere is festive. I normally order a cocktail, bone-in ribeye, hash browns and dessert. The wait staff ask the extra questions to make sure each is done to taste. I also appreciate the respect shown to all diners, from business men talking deals to families out for the night.
Dont look at anything but the sirloin or the filet. I had the sirloin (house specialty) and it was perfectly cooked even though it was quite thick. The seasoning was strong, but I feel that a cut of meat that size needs a strong backbone of flavor to permeate the entire piece. The sides are alright, but lets be honest, you dont come to a steak house like this for the creamed spinach. The wine selection is huge and if you will find something you like with little effort if you know what you are looking for. If not, the wait staff would be happy to help with pairings. Our waiter had been there for 18 years and knew his stuff. We had an assortment of desserts, and they were all very good.I highly recommend this midtown institution.
Have not been here since the strike years ago but this was by far the best Sirloin I ever had. Insane wine list and all the staff were incredible.(Most have moved on and opened their own restaurants)I truly miss this place. Remember walking here from my apartment in Gramercy on 9/11 sitting at the bar and watching the news.
Was a bit fast food impression. Waiter was in rush , steaks were served within 5 minutes after ordering, both were a bit burnt, after 20 minutes we were asked for desert, and after 1 hour we got the check. We never found out which wine we ordered, waiter did not mention what house wine was. But it wasnt bad (the wine). I dont think we will come back. Too bad, because previous time it was much better, thats why we were back.
Very allergy friendly. Went for an early lunch, so it was fairly quiet. Im fairly certain it was a chef that stopped by our table to clarify my food allergies and ask about what I wanted. The meal was delicious and they were very attentive. Would definitely recommend and go back!
If you appreciate the classic, back in the day NYC steak house vibe (which I happen to love), then Sparks is for you. I personally found extra charm in the mafia-esque nature of the overall surroundings (no such thing as the mafia by the way). While I am certain the dining rooms of this place have overheard many stories that would make for countless best-selling books -- at the same time, I cannot help but feel this is also the kind of place that knows how to keep its mouth shut when need be. On this particular night I was dining solo, so I opted for a seat at the bar. I was greeted by a very kind bartender who went out of his way to see that I was happy. Everyone there was equally comforting and friendly. My meal was delicious and I cant say enough about the size (HUGE) and flavor of the shrimp! Perfectly grilled atop my crisp Caesar salad. An overall flawless experience in one of the greatest cities in the world. I will definitely return!
This is not a review written with a grudge.. I loved the service and left a large tip for my waiter. We were seated immediately and the food was served swiftly. This is the honest review of the food. We ordered the mushroom caps, creamed spinach, oysters and two prime sirloins. The oysters were as good as I expected.. Some shell fragments from the shucking in a few. $19 for 6. The creamed spinach was very runny andbwe paid $11 for a small portion. It actually helped when added to each bite of the steak because it was salty and balanced out the dryness of the meat. The mushroom caps wer also overpriced but I liked them.. Probably the best part of the meal.If you dont really know what good steak looks like or tastes like, this will be a good experience for you. If youre expecting something exceptional, look elsewhere. Both steaks were dry and slightly tough.. We found them to be unflavorful and bland. At $57 per steak, it was very disappointing.Another huge issue for me was that we were each given a small sesame seed roll before the meal. They were like rocks. For the prices charged, they should at least give out a decent piece of bread!
Although the service was good, the food itself was subpar. The side choices need to be better (who wants a plate of plain crab meat with lemon juice?) and they dont have a porterhouse which is very disappointing. I cant say Ill ever be going back. So many better steakhouses nearby. Food overall was meh
My boyfriend and I came here for our anniversary and we had a beautiful meal. We ordered baked stuffed clams and crab meat which was delicious for an appetizer. The clams were moist with lots of flavor, not the mention the presentation was spectacular. For entrées, we ordered the lamb chops and broiled shrimp and lobster tails and as a side we got the hash brown potatoes. All waiters were completely professional and so polite. For dessert we had berries a la mode, the chocolate mouse cake, and a cappuccino. The fruit was so unbelievably fresh, the ice cream was so creamy; the cappuccino was strong but perfect. The chocolate mousse cake was a perfect portion size. Overall, the portion control was outstanding. The menu had very few carbs and focused on flavorful entrées and the entire meal was paced very well. Highly recommend and would definitely come back here.
One of the must visit steak houses in Manhattan. It’s been around a long time, when you walk in you know you are walking into a a classic. The decor is old school and kinda regal. Food is amazing, steak and lobster is a home run. Great bar as well. Excellent selection of wines. It’s a pricey place but well worth the splurge.
Wow. This was totally upscale in everyway , except you can go dressed nice but causal. The portions are very big they encourage sharing and now I know why. I had the Sea bass which was so amazing. Hubby had the filet which was 16oz of total delight. Berries and ice cream for dessert with coffee. Staff was amazing. I can not say enough good thing about this place.
After visiting from Australia in March this year I still cant stop thinking about this place! I just finished watching a mobster movie, and again, my thoughts drifted to this incredible place. Its like a time capsual, such a cool atmosphere! The service was old school, the waiters clearly take pride in their restaurant and were just the right amount of friendly and cheeky. The steak was great, the sides were ok. I had the best French Martini Ive ever had! It was expensive (Aussie dollar sucks right now) but worth every cent.
Paying for the history. On arrival we had come straight from a day out adventuring NYC so were on casual clothes, we were made to feel out of place and seated at the back where no one could see us. Our waiter was extremely rude, slammed our drinks down on the table and spilt them, when our medium steak come is was rare so we sent it back in which he sighed over it. The food was ok but nothing special. Upon leaving and paying the bill our waiter had the nerve to ask where his tip was in which we said how poor his service and attitude was towards us. Overall I wouldnt recommend eating here, the menu was extremely overpriced and the staff were rude
Simply the best steak house in New York. Great service and fun to see all the couples tonight, Valentines Day, rather than the usual power brokers. Great steaks, perfect sides and Maine lobsters. Weve loved this place for almost 50 years since they were a little joint on 18th Street! Dont miss the fabulous Hudson River school art. A priceless collection.
Short summary: an elegant and quiet restaurant with great service and good steaks in a reasonable price ($50-$60).The good:1. The place is beautifully furnished and is a great spot for an elegant dinner.2. There is no laud music or TVs distracting you from having a nice evening and/or conversation.3. The quality to price ratio for the steaks and sides (weve had a filet mignon with asparagus, broccoli and potatoes) is good. Id definitely recommend the asparagus.4. The service is very pleasant and attentive.5. They have a huge selection of wines. Didnt have any, since Im not a fan of wines in general, but Im sure other people would appreciate it.Could be improved:1. While most of the steak was great one side was slightly charred and it there was also one unchewable bit in it. Something I havent encountered previously in a filet mignon.2. The knives could use a bit of refreshing as they were already a bit chipped and blunted.3. They do not sell any Coke Zero, which is a shame, because I really like one with a good steak.
Went there for a friends burthday. The wine was fantastic and reasonably priced. All of the sides were excellent. The filet, salad and appetizers were all spot-on.The desert was the best I have had in years.Even the service was perfect and attentive without being overbearing.
Great steaks, mafia-esque style to it really added to the ambience. Unfortunately when we were there, there were picketers outside that kind of ruined the vibe. You can tell the new waiting staff has a lot to learn, we were waiting a long time to have our order taken. Luckily we werent starving. In the end it was one of the best steaks Ive ever had so we have to give credit where its due. Hopefully they iron out their staff situation.
My wife and I celebrated the evening of my 30th Birthday at Sparks while visiting NYC from the UK. It exceeded my expectations on every level. A bustling atmosphere you rarely experience, superb attentive staff and amazing food which was modestly priced by NYC standards. An incredible, unique experience. It felt like something out of a Scorsese Movie.

2022-04-13The epitome of old school New York steakhouses. What this boils down to is steak, and the verdict is simple: the steak is breathtakingly good. Beautiful cuts of the highest quality meat, seasoned and cooked exactly right. The sides are good, the deserts are terrific - especially the cheesecake of course. The waiters are friendly and helpful and reassuringly of a type. The decor is fabulous. You even have the history of a genimob hit. The wine list is impeccable, though it ranges from expensive (you wont pay under $100 for a bottle) to the take-out-a-mortgage eye-watering ($8000+). But is comes down to the steak and the steak is outstanding.

2022-01-12The only eat I can describe my filet is to say it was creamy like butter. The saltiness and moisture of heartiness with a touch of power. It was not just a dining experience it was rejuvenating my personal strength. I ate steak not to eat it but here I experienced the strength and power of the cow transferred to me. It was a spiritual experience as well dining. I felt the genetic history of a hunter and the pleasure of consuming what I had killed. It was a connection to my primordial self!!

2022-06-18Our family had a wonderful dining experience. It was a traditional old school NY steakhouse. The food and service was exceptional. We enjoyed the Shrimp and Crab Cocktails, Raw Oysters and Ceasars Salad as appetizers. The restaurant was very accomodating allowing us to share steak and fish entrees to create our own surf and turf plates. The kitchen actually split entrees for us- the servings were perfect allowing us to enjoy both the steak and fish options. Portions are large! It was truly a rewarding experience, one that I would highly recommend.

2021-11-07One of the best steakhouses I have visited in New York, or anywhere else for that matter. The service was excellent, they knew the menu cold, and suggested great wine. The steak was huge! Perfectly seasoned, just delicious. We also ordered fish which was magnificent. I expected the least from the sides, but even that was an unexpected surprise. All in all it was a terrific dinner in a great place.

2022-01-24My boyfriend took me here for my birthday last night. I love the traditional steakhouse look! We shared a bottle of wine, caesar salad, each had the filet mignon (which I didnt ask how many ounces it was, but realized when they came out that we couldve shared), with two sides and we were stuffed! I didnt want to have to carry anything as we were going out after, but wanted to save room for dessert. So ended up taking some of the steak home. Little did I know that they came out with a complimentary slice of cheesecake with Happy Birthday written on the plate. I did not know that was going to happen as I only asked for the weekend to be low key. We got there early and definitely packed out by the time we left. I really liked how the tables are set up and the paintings on the wall, bottles of wines just everywhere. The staff was wonderful and the pace at which everything came out was good. It was an awesome start to my birthday!

2022-06-05Wife had the Filet. I had the Prime Sirloin. Both were cooked to perfection. Sides were outstanding. And service is still the best in town. Shame to see people walking in in t shirts and baseball caps. Wanted to ask them what time was the ball game but wife requested no trouble.

2022-02-13I am an avid steakhouse goer.

2021-12-19The best steaks I’ve ever had were in NY! Sparks is definitely a top notch steak destination! I fly out once a year from the West Coast to dine here, it never disappoints! The drinks, food and service are award winning!!! Juan was our waiter and he just adds to the experience! This is a must when in NY! The lobster is absolutely delectable!

2021-12-13Old school steakhouse that’s worth the visit. Portions are big and the staff does not rush the patrons. Started with the fresh bufala mozzarella with sliced tomato which was great for sharing. For the entree I went with the prime sirloin steak which was kind of charred (didn’t really expect) on the outside and medium rare as requested on the inside and highly recommend the Hash Brown Potatoes for the vegetables.
