Spectrum Store in other cities:
Not only are they one of the worst most dishonest corporate companies around, but even the local staff at the spectrum mobile store in Ithaca are the worst of the worst kind of people, every time Ive been in there theyve been extremely rude, but also possessed literally zero social grace and common sense towards dealing with a regular human. its almost like they go out of their way to be unhelpful and rude towards people. The most reasonable metaphor I can think of is that their social grace is comparable to a pack of hungry hyenas.
Went into the store to get new equipment yesterday and when I walked in at least 10 people that worked there were just sitting at the tables staring at me very awkwardly not saying anything. One woman brought me over to her cubical and kept standing really close to me. Wouldn’t listen to anything I said about how it wasn’t working and I was told by customer care to exchange it in person. Just gave me back the same equipment in a new bag, and set up a technician to come “fix my signal”. And gave me a number for technical support. Which I specifically said I did NOT need a technician and I was already told it was the equipment. I was so frustrated I just took the bag and left. They didn’t help me at all and some creepy big old guy who worked there was yelling out at me “do you live in an apartment building?!?” As I was about to literally walk out which I thought was extremely unprofessional and felt very uncomfortable. Why is it any business of his where I live?!? You need to hire people who actually want to work and help their customers!
Customer service was a joke, didnt have the phone I wanted in stocks after being told it was and driving 50 min one way. Manager promised to call.me and set one aside when it came in then never did. When I went back, thats how I learned they got a phone in, customer service was a joke again, manager refused to acknowledge she promised to inform me when phone arrived, and then computer system couldnt process my upgrade and they couldnt figure out why or how to fix it. At this point if it wasnt for the fact the price I pay is great, along with the coverage, Id switch providers.
If I could give 0 stars I would. When they say you are paying $89/mo (internet/cable) for the first year what they mean is $89 plus $40! Beware the bundle. Should you choose to bundle and then drop one of the services later, you will still pay more for the other retained service than you would have if you only purchased the single service in the beginning.A note about tv, I consistently had difficulties connecting to tv during the 4 months I had the service before I just gave up and canceled.Internet is not the fastest and can be annoying especially if you do heavy computing. Even zoom has difficulty loading on spectrums internet connection. Go Fios if you can.
Literally one of the most sarcastic and rude costumer “service” reps I’ve ever spoken to. Mariam!!! You could have been much kinder as I gave you no reason to be mean to me! The directions online are not clear and we’re all just trying to do our best out in this world ok!Really wishing Ithaca had another Internet service to buy from as I do NOT want to give them my business again.
I set up a Spectrum account by phone and then went to the store to see if I could get a modem. They said they couldnt give me anything because one was in the mail, and wouldnt even let me rent one. The employees were clearly irritated that Id set up my account by phone rather than in the store (even though I couldnt have done so, because Id had to call to see when service would be activated at my building), and basically treated me like I was a customer of some other company. I will avoid using that store if at all possible. It seems like being the only internet provider in town has given them license to treating customers badly.
Not once have I felt welcome in this store... very disengaged and unhelpful staff. I have had the same negative experiences with many different agents. The worst is this one agent named Corey who for some reason was very hostile and condescending and even questioned how I signed by signature!! (In a hostile tone he said “I asked you to SIGN this!” after I gave my signature. Who is he to comment on or question my penmanship!?) This has NEVER happened to me in my life. I hope his rudeness is not due to the fact that I am a person of color. I feel even the spectrum phone line (which we can imagine is not the most delightful experience in the world) is several times better than the disrespectful service you have to put up with in this store. Can’t believe I pay for getting treated this way.
This company is a total scam.Setting up a new service with this company, either in store or over the phone , you will be notified that the lowest possible offer you will get today is some insane ripped off of $80/ month. And after some diligent mouse-clicking and meticulous researching, the sales rep is going to tell you the bargain lies in a package charging you $70/month for internet plus some random lousy TV channels which you can only watch through an app ill-supported by any platforms. And, with some further hard work to assist you with lowering your cost, this guy is going to suggest you to sign up for $60 internet+land line (youre right- its 2020).You will find out their internet-only service costs you $44.99 on their website .However, after all the clicking on the website, you will be required to call Spectrum to finish your order. By the end of this hour-long-waiting call , you will be miraculously charged $55 for internet with TV.Be prepared to spend a few hours waiting on the phone line to cure your over-billing and malpractices if you decide to use their service. Staff are arrogant and combative.I am sorry for those who could not escape this company. Spectrum is the supreme example of the hazards of monopoly.
It is hard to know where to begin. I paid for years to have wiring for phone insured. I was away for a year and returned and suddenly there was a wiring problem and then told they were no longer covering it (yet somehow the bill wasn’t reduced. Everyone I know pays a different amount for services. The costs go up as services decrease. This is a monopoly in my area. Even where it is a duopoly service will be abysmal. Costs are nothing like this in other countries. Spectrum has eliminated the PBS most relevant to our community and we have THREE “local” broadcast stations that are Sinclair while local stations from equally close areas were eliminated.
I used Time Warner for a year before it became Spectrum. This 4 star review is weighed more for this location rather than the cable company in general. The customer service reps here have always been accurate, friendly and helpful, and I enjoy my experience here far more than with the online sales and tech support teams. Would give 5 stars to the employees here.Minus 1 star because the company itself does drop internet signal quite often as others have noted. The telephone sales rep screwed up my address multiple times, even putting it in a completely different state. And it takes 4-6 weeks to get a refund after account account closure, which seems a bit long to me.
Terrible. Just moved about a week ago and Monday we setup a “self installation kit”. Little did we know it didn’t come with a router so when we installed it we couldn’t even use the internet... I called spectrum, and reasoned with them and they said they would ship a router to our house and it would arrive 2 days from Monday. But after the caller said that even when we get the router we cannot use spectrum until a tech comes out because the apartment we live in hasn’t used spectrum since 2013. We scheduled an appointment for them to come Friday (today) between 5-6pm. Well, after 6pm passed still no technician! We called spectrum and they said they are on they’re way once finished with there other appointment and will call us when on their way. 7pm passed.... 8pm passed... 8:30pm passed. Still NO TECHNICIAN. We decided to call again, and they rescheduled our appointment without us even knowing or asking, and they said they will start billing us July 7th. Even though we signed up for the “first month free”. I’m absolutely angered and disgusted with the lack of customer service and communication with this company.
My experience was different than most. I had what I thought would be a simple transaction: exchanging an old modem for a new one. I arrived at noon on a Thursday, there were three reps behind the counter and no line. So I was able to walk right up to Brian and he helped me. No upselling, just got me the new modem, the entire process took two minutes.
This location has very nice employees and so far never had any problems. The person on the phone from the 800 # this am calling on a past due balance was a snippy rude person and I could tell that they have a pretend professional demeanor that they were agonizingly struggling with not to be condescending. Get a different job than customer service.
Waited 45 minutes for my turn because they only had one person helping at a check out and one person roaming to sell products and tell people to sign in. Apparently service is so slow you have the option of making a reservation. I had no way of knowing this was even an option. When its my turn they call out a different M name. I ask if she meant me and I was told no. Then three people who signed in after me where helped before I had to intervene to get a turn. What I needed took 2min to complete now an hour after arriving. Never again!
I wouldnt even give a one. I was lied to from the beginning. Was referred to risk management six months after service and made an agreement the rep made a mistake with a date. I called to correct this and she screamed at me telling me I dont make mistakes with names and dates this is my,job. Well I would of never agreed to the date considering it is between paychecks. She then claimed I could pay it with my social security check okay I dont get social security. Then, told her I was having trouble trading in a box because my account was locked again called a liar. I tried to get someone else to deal with and she stated we dont play tag in this office. Well guess what u will be losing my service. Absolutely disgusted and cant believe that people like that work in customer service
It is easy to connect to their public wifi. Its been very helpful during COVID-19 while I have been working from home. Its helped me stay under the data cap of my mobile phone provider. I just wish they would extend their coverage so purchasing TV/Internet at my home was an option. While some businesses are still deciding when to open I wish they would extend free wifi access for a few months..
I have told this company repeatedly I do not want to buy cable television from them. They mail me endless junk mail with offers for cable, they called me three times in three days (sometimes as late at 9:00pm) to try and sell me their latest deal. I know current customers are paying for all of their wasted advertising. Every time I open my mailbox and see another envelope offering a bundle I dislike this company even more. They called me at 8:56pm, and when I told the guy it was inappropriate to call me at 9:00pm he said actually, it is 8:56. There is so much to dislike. If I had any choice I would not use this company for internet service.
Poor service. Internet is slow and cuts out intermittently. Cable costs are astronomical. They continually raise rates for loyal customers. Their customer service stinks. Everyone I know hates Time Warner and they are the butt of heartless corporation jokes. The only reason this company is still in business is because they have a monopoly in the area. Once I can get internet service another way I am bailing for good.
Worst company around. They do not pick up the phone when I call to ask about our non-existent cable TV service. They charge outrageous fees for slow internet. They are a monopoly where we live so what can we do?This is an addition to my previous review written 4 year ago. Spectrum is still a monopoly in the Ithaca area. Accordingly their fees for internet service are outrageous and will continue to be so until either there is competition or they become regulated as an utility.
If there were a way to give this store zero stars, I would. Absolutely rude, mendacious, condescending and useless “service”...and my issue was one that Spectrum Mobile both caused...then couldn’t fix...then refused to fix. I’m now at eight days with no business phone, people in the community think I’m out of business, and the best their customer service people can do is tell me its my problem and shift blame onto a third party that’s actually trying to help me get my business phone restored.
This has got to be the worst customer service that I have ever encountered! Not only were service disruptions common, but when I tried to cancel service it was almost impossible. Numerous times I had to follow up with them and ask why I was still being billed for services that I shut off months ago. They kept telling me that they were having trouble getting someone out to the old house to shut off service. This went on for several months. I called again today 8/26/13, because I got another bill for services when service should have been discontinued months ago. Would not recommend this company ever again...Just a follow up...finally got my refund...its now november!
5 stars? Yes, thats not a mistake. Let me explain:Time Warner Cable is awful. Ive talked with six customer service representatives today, in various departments, and accomplished absolutely nothing. It started with an installation technician who never showed, progressed to the news that an account had never been created for me and that the original rep had not, in fact, given me a real confirmation number, and got worse from there. It was a 4 hour debacle that accomplished NOTHING.On a whim I stopped by the Ithaca Time Warner Cable office to try one last time. The rep there, Jake, was friendly, helpful, and ironed everything out. He was able to find my address in seconds (something the previous six reps took 15 minutes to do), discovered that I didnt need an installation tech (and certainly not the pre-installation site survey that other reps said I needed), and I walked away with a modem and service thats currently letting me type this review 30 minutes later. I wish Id gone there first.Long story short Time Warner Customer Service sucks but the Ithaca location (and Jake in particular) saved the day.
Signed up for internet service online, got the confirmation email and everything. Then I go to the store to pick up my modem and they say they have no record of it. Long story short their website is useless, lets you sign up and tells you it charged your card and to go pick up a modem, all without actually signing you up in any way or charging your card or getting a modem reserved for you. You had one job, Time Warner Cable. For what its worth the people at the desk in the TWC office were very nice and helpful, even when i walked in moments before closing, so just make sure you talk to a real person because their automated system is pure rubbish.
Worst people out there. I had problems with the bill. Getting charged repeatedly. This was two years ago. Service was cut off. My mother two years later goes and gets service for herself. Took three days to get everything connected. A week later she gets cut off. She calls to find out what happened. She gets told its an outage. Then come to find out because of my past they cut her off. Everything is in her name. I dont live with her and she gets cut off because of the screwing over I got. They even charged her $89.99 and then send a Bill for $28.06 due October 20th. No body told her anything about this and not being able to have serivce. Time Warner Cable screwed her over. I dont recomend anybody to do business with them at all. Coustmer service is not even here in the U.S. it goes to India where the people have no clue as to what they are doing. Sad thing is Time Warner Cable is the only serivce here. Great way to screw people over.
This place is horrible. I actually produce a cable access television show shown on channel 13. I signed up for service so I could watch my own show, as well as, my fellow producers shows. Instead of doing a proper installation, they just gave me the equipment, telling me that I could figure it all out myself. It didnt work then I actually hired my computer tech friend to come over and straighten it out. He got it up and running for a couple of days and then it went out again so I blew 100 bucks 29 on cable 29 on telephone and 29 on internet all for nothing.
If I could give half a star, thatd be generous. My appointment was, at first, re-scheduled several times. On the day the worker was due, he was close to 3 hours late with the excuse stuff comes up. As I had to leave for work, he guaranteed a reschedule promptly the morning after with a confirmation phone call. I never received the call so contacted the company first thing the morning of said new appointment. After endless various phone calls to different scam numbers and departments and speaking with incompetent foreign workers, an automated machine told me my appointment was for 3 days later, to a time I had never spoke of/ confirmed. Im still left clueless as to when and if my appointment will occur but I had to hang up after mere frustration. Terrible, careless service.
I hadnt realized thus building wasnt labeled as Time Warner anymore, so I got lost the first time I looked for the local branch. I love the new layout, its much more welcoming and user friendly. The more open space makes you feel less like impending doom is lurking and more like a customer with questions for people with answers. Coyld use more chairs/bigger waiting area, as its usually busy and backed up, but theyve got a small tv so youre not staring awkwardly at anything but the people surrounding you at least. Customer service is cheery from my experience. Pushy, but cheery.
Received a promotional mailing from Spectrum. ( I have gotten the sam mailing aprox. 8 times so far) When I finally called the number listed to get details, the customer rep.would not give me an answer about what specific channels were included. ( I know it sounds incredible). I asked several times but they were evasive. Then they told me that I was currently getting extra channels because the cable installer had made a mistake and that I needed to upgrade in order to get a similar package to the one I already had. When I informed them that I was given that discount through their Customer Retention department , they eventually agreed but said They shouldnt have done that! All this hassle just to ask a question about a promo that they had sent. I declined and will try my best not to deal with any Spectrum customer service department again. Be wary of their promotional offers.
There is a gentleman named Mark at this location who is rude, condescending, and a liar. I had cable/internet/telephone and called customer service to cancel the cable portion. Im told I dont need new equipment and everything will transfer over to a new package, I just need to return the cable box to this office. Internet and telephone are working at this point. I go to this office and get stuck with Mark who tries to sell me services I dont want or need. Hes in my account, typing furiously and then tells me I need a new modem. I tell him that I dont, not according to customer service. His response? I dont know what to tell you chief, you need a new modem. He then tells me there is a lease charge on it, I decline it yet again and leave. I get home 20 minutes later and my internet is MYSTERIOUSLY no longer working. My wife goes down to this location again today and is given a modem and a router and told if she opens the router, we have to pay for it. She plugs in the new modem and we still dont have internet. I call customer service again and speak to Christine who tells me to plug the old modem back in because there was no reason for us to be told or given a new modem because our existing modem was compatible and working. She fixes some settings that again, MYSTERIOUSLY got changed and what do you know, our internet is working again! Without a new modem or a new router. Mark is a scam artist and a liar.UPDATE: my wife went to return the unnecessary equipment back to Mark who STILL tried to tell her we needed the equipment even after customer service fixed our internet with our old equipment.
I had to close my recently deceased mothers account. After 3 phone calls and two hours of banter with the headquarters they sent me documents that required her signature. Fed up I went to the Ithaca office. Not only were condolences given the service was excellent and the matter resolved in 15 minutes. Hats off to the service here in town. The Reps via the phone service can go straight to hell - rude, unhelpful and plain disrespectful of a long time customers affairs. Ill say it one more time your phone service reps are worthless and can go straight to hell.
If I could give less than one star I would. Trying to disconnect service and am caught in an endless loop of incompetence and messages saying our office is closed now, try again during normal business hours (I am calling mid-day, not on a holiday, and talked to several real people who after I told them what I wanted to do, transferred me to the endless loop only to be told our office is closed now.....) Chatted online with reps who were mildly helpful and gave me multiple numbers to call, all of which I called and got the same endless loop message. I have spent HOURS trying to cancel service, and will spend more time today to finally be free of this horrible company. I cannot stress enough how much HASSLE and WASTED TIME there has been over the years for multiple issues. If you can find another service provider, save yourself the aggravation and do it!
I have had a very difficult time with this company in the past in the store with issues on trying to change a service and they made it impossible and gave me an attitude (except the worker who came to turn on our wifi - he was great!). Then today I went in to switch my router and the guy took the whole system from me and handed me a box. I asked VERY clearly if everything I needed was in there - every cord, every device, instructions, EVERYTHING. Guy went back and got me instructions (which why they arent included in the first place beats me). Got home and the first step is to plug in the coax cable... Which is still connected to my old router that he took from me at the store. I LITERALLY COULD NOT HAVE BEEN MORE CLEAR UGH.
Adequate service upon sign up, but it is next to impossible to pay a bill! Online, on phone, in person.... they always have a problem. Meanwhile I keep getting bills saying I am behind but they wont accept payment or their system is down etc. They dont even seem to actually be Spectrum - I think it is a charter of some sort. They suck.
After signing up they raise the price. You have to call in regularly to get them to lower the price. Salesman are really pushy trying to get you to sign up for a more expensive package. They force you to buy add-ons like cable converters. None of the packages have guaranteed service levels, they only list what you might be able to achieve under ideal conditions. The starter TV package mostly has shopping and advertising shows.
Snakes from the bottom to the top. Even with their priciest package, they throttle your connection, giving you slow internet half the time, and simply not providing the product they charge you for the rest. I’ve replaced modems, routers, upgraded packages, and made HOURS of calls trying to get what I paid for, but this dishonest business will happily lie to your face and say they are putting a new foot forward as Spectrum. They should all be arrested for their business practice.
The worst I ever met in my whole entire life.Rude, wasted time, useless, not helpful, no service mind, not try to help customer solved the problem. She told me I must walked in to the downtown office, actually I just called to the 1800 number chat is faster and helpful and faster. Called done in less than 5 min.But I chat online so many times, but the agent are not good, very poor service and wasted time also.If you will canceled, it will take you 6 months to come back to be new customer. And when you canceled they will cut your internet right away, in the same day, but when you pay monthly you have to make a payment early. At first I think if I called to canceled today, they will cut the service at the last day of the rounding but its not like that. But in the market now we have a lot of choices like cheap litelink, Verizon or even Vergin that Im going for after called to canceled this rr.
Not impressed. Im 30 minutes into trying get to get Internet service and so far Ive been transfered 5 times. once to try and sell me additional crap I dont want and the rest because customer service is giving me the run around about having my own equipment. the sales lady was extremely pushy about upgrading packages and only after saying no a dozen times would she do what I asked. if your internet service sucks as your customer service itll be short lived!!!!! not impressed so far! I do not believe this was staff at the local level but rather an outsourced call center.
Ive had good and bad experiences. Sometimes there is a huge line and you have to wait for hours. Other times youre the only one there. While the staff is very friendly I do have to say that their internet service is terrible. My internet connection is extremely shaky and I lose my connection every 10 minutes and need to turn on and off my Wi-Fi every time. This is what happens when one company has a monopoly over internet provision in Ithaca
We are held hostage by Time Warner. If we cancel our TV service, which is a sick joke, our internet costs will skyrocket. If we did not rely on the internet home service, I would stop all our business with this pathetic, unreliable company. The only channels that work on a regular basis are the basic ones, which are not worth watching, and the premium shows are usually unavailable owing to the unreliable reception.Tompkins County needs an alternate source of internet.Time Warner is crap (no pardons for my French).I am infuriated that this review service automatically gave Time Warner a positive rating despite the fact that I gave it a negative one.Candace E. Actually, this is not a review for the people working here. Its about Spectrum the company as a whole. Here is my story:Im a new user of Spectrum in June 2017. When I open my account, I said I just want to use the Internet with $44.99/mo without wifi(I have my own). But the website agent insists that I should try the full package($29.99/mo for each of the Internet, TV, and voice) because I can downgrade to only Internet service WITHOUT PENALTY. I said I just want the Internet service again, but she tried to persuade me to try them and turn them down later because there is NO PENALTY by doing that. I said OK, why not give a chance? Then, the nightmare began.Today(6/26/2017), I talked to a Spectrum agent using web chat to downgrade the service to Internet Only service. S/he said on problems, the price is $69.99/mo. I said no, I was told there is no penalty, so please give me the original price. S/he said that is for the new user, now you are not new Spectrum user anymore.!!!!!!!I insisted and they give me a call and then refer me to talk to their leadership. Their leadership is so arrogant that she said to me there is no way to get the original price and I have the choice to use it or not. How arrogant she is! She knew perfectly that Im in an area covered only by the Spectrum. If I can use AT&T or Verizon. I will give up Spectrum immediately.I felt deeply used by Spectrum...is there any way to protect ourselves from such a bureaucracy?
Horrible Internet service. Its slow, it cuts out. I have rebooted my system three times in a hour just so I could print out boarding passes. The connection was weak and continued to cut out. If there was no stars this is what I would give. Sometimes its fine. Other times, just bad. Entirely too inconsistent.
Not a pleasant experience with services at this office and the overall ISP options available in Ithaca. Unfortunately, Ive been here a few times because there are not many viable ISP options available; hopefully Verizon and others can get it together and provide competition/alternatives.She was clearly over-worked; there was not much support from staff which also reflects how poorly this office is being managed.1. while returning a cable modem, the TW woman threw the device and accessories onto the floor 6 feet behind her. I thought maybe these were going to be destroyed anyway so it wouldnt matter. I was incorrect; they hand these out to new customers.2. in another instance, i stopped by to pick up a cable modem. TW used to provide a nice box with everything you could need to get started on installing the cable modem at home (extra long coax, splitter, etc). This is no longer the case. I got an old modem that looked like it had been thrown around. I politely requested extra parts that should have been included. She didnt comprehend my needs. She was unwilling to provide accessories so I had to buy them on my own. There was no point in arguing with her for something that was just $6 at the nearest electronics store. Plus, there were 10 people behind me who have been waiting for service from an office that just had one person working: highly disliked (borderline hated this experience)In summary, this office is poorly managed, had an overworked customer rep. who clearly lacks customer service skills. Too bad you, as an ISP customer dont have much of a choice. Hopefully by the time you read this, there will be other options available.
Small venue to pay bills, order services, return equipment, complain, etc. Always a line and a wait. Never more than two customer service reps even though theres space for three. Reps are surprisingly pleasant and helpful, despite what appears to be dismal working conditions.
If I could give 0 stars I would. I have had my internet for not even a week and the modem resets itself constantly making the internet I am paying for useless. Do they not test their products before giving them to the customers? I am now waiting to get a new one. If this one doesnt work Im just going to invest in some sort of hotspot with a different company because this one has been trash.
I stopped into Spectrums new location in Ithaca, NY to inquire about pricing of different options to our service. I was greeted and assisted by Sydney. She was rude, arrogant and demeaning, and gave me incorrect information regarding our current service. I then called Spectrum and was assisted by someone who was very helpful and able to provide me with several different options at lower prices for our service.
Internet drops out constantly. Often the data speed is less than 1mbps, less than dsl, less than old dial up. It should be at least 50 Mbps. Within 5 minutes I saw the speed go from 156 kilobites per second to 36 megabites then back to 480 kikobites, then to 11 megabites. Its all over the place and makes it impossible to perform online work or even have uninterrupted entertainment. After multiple technician visits its proven the problem is with Spectrums equipment and data management and nothing to do with their customers equipment.
The worse customer service I have ever experienced. I have been here 3 times, every time as different associate exhibits a condescending attitudeThey went so far as to tell me “they aren’t customer service”Apparently, they only exist to sell you something, after that they could care lessI spend $3000 with them a year!
DONT BOTHERCalled about the internet connection constantly dropping out at random times. First person gave me the usual unplug it, plug it back in advice which didnt help.Called back after the internet dropped again after less than 30 minutes from the previous call. Scheduled a tech to come out end of the week. Now the internet got worse after the call (coincidence? I doubt). Tech comes out, replaces router. Now the connection is almost all but useless.
Ugh...Talking to this company is the definition of insanity.Every time I call I expect it will go differently, but always the same disappointing result. On the bright side, I get to practice patience and tolerance. Which Spectrum consistently proves I have not mastered...Every. Single. Time.
Weve had cable service with TWC here in Ithaca for 16 years. Last week (Tuesday) a branch took down our cable line. TWC apparently outsources all of its telephone support to another country. We were told 3 to 5 days, then on another call, 5 -10 days, then on another call that it would be fixed that following day. I then went that morning to the local office to confirm. They confirmed it would be fixed that day. Near the end of the day, a worker showed up prepared to bury our cable, which was not the repair we needed. He said he wasnt able to hang our cable, so he left. I went back to TWC office, they told me they would rush our repair. No one came, no one came Saturday. Just got an automated call from them, it would be fixed tomorrow (one week from when it went down). Were signing up with Direct tv. We were also told by TWC that our repair was a free call, so really, it wasnt a priority... Nice....
Spectrum (previously Time Warner) Is literally one of the worst companies to deal with. A single phone call about your internet will turn into a 2 hour call where they discover a horrible error in there system they made months ago, transfer you to 5 different departments and leave you to explore your journey to each department every time.I would rather put my hand in a deep fryer than have to deal with the searing pain of talking to this company.
This is the absolute worst Internet provider I have ever had. Workers are frequently outside working on the wires. The slightest wind, rain, or snow causes the Internet to go down. I work at home and rely on the Internet connection and I have experienced nothing but frustration.
Monthly service and equipment rental fees hiked without warning and it just keeps rising. Im now paying $80.00 a month for 30Mbps which is often not even enough for three 20-something-year-olds living under one roof. This is 2016, everything relies on the internet and were paying through the nose for it.
I did not have cable to my house and was 450 ft from the nearest drop, I got a call from their North Carolina center and they set up a buried installation(at no cost) came and did the work very professionally(thanks Steve) and I had cable and internet is 3 weeks. I found the service at the Ithaca location very professional. I had Direct TV before and liked it but gotta say nice to save money on the bundle and internet is very fast. I would highly recommend based on my experience!!
I too, have had a wire sprawled out through my lawn. That was over a year ago after the install and said they were sending someone out to burry it.. yet, I was forced to pay installation and hookup fees. Talked 3 times to them about it and they still have done nothing..
Let me add to this companys pile of sh***y reviews. I didnt think it could get worse after TW cable, then came along SPUTUM, err SPECTRUM. All I need/want is internet in my mobile home in Varna. For a long time with TW I was able to pay $35/mo for 30 MB/s download...a special offer I had to renew every 12 months by making a call and asking for a discount. Then SPECTRUM bought TW. Fine. Maybe theyll offer me a better deal than TW. After they came in they had me paying $50/mo for the same thing. In December 2017 it went up to $55. Surely, as time marches on we should be getting more MB/sec for the dollar, not fewer.
I have had TW for Talk and Surf since they offered the service. The rate was reasonable @ $55 a month, until it was not. In the past two years they started raising my rate ~$15 a month each year and started charging a rental fee for the ancient cable modem I have had for years; add to that the new tiered bandwidth billing with no updates nor replacement, same old equipment (by doing this with out a hardware upgrade they have increased traffic on the lower tier resulting in slower service, as the same band width with more users equals an increase in collisions of the packets resulting in slower service; a long known issue specifically with cable internet). I am now @ $90 a month for the now super slow internet and cable phone. They have had a monopoly on internet service for too long, but no longer.Luckily Verizon is now offering a no contract DSL/phone service for ~$55 a month and no hook up or hidden fees. Usually a business would like to retain their customers in this situation, I was met with a yawn from TWC.You can guess what my next step will be....
Just moved to Ithaca and had Internet installed. Mysterious outages lasting 1-3 hrs. every day interspersed by periods of super slow/narrow bandwidth even though I ordered and am paying for 20mbps. Thinking of getting someone else (is there anybody else?). Im getting fed up already!
After being hassled endlessly by TMC to switch (I was using Verizon), pgetting annoying postal mail several time a week, usually disguised as something else, to my great annoyance, I started having problems with my VERIZON internet that Verizon couldnt fix - VERIZON recommended I switch internet providers!!! The ONLY other one available was TIme Warner ( now Spectrum). I had no choice. I switched. Gues what ? Not only more reliable and way faster internet, but 60% yes 60% (!!!) cheaper - I had been getting ripped off by Verizon for years without realizing it. From average $120 a month down to to $50 a month !!!!!! I still get regular annoying USPS mail from TMC to beef up my service, but I dont care! ALSO they folks at the local TMC office downtotown Ithaca are GREAT - love em!
Absolutely a terrible experience, make sure you sign in, or you will never get waited on. They all work on commission, so they are there to sell you as much as they can. Left there upset that I could not just get a couple basic questions answered. It was all about sell sell sell!! Not about customer service
This doesnt allow you to give something no stars but thats what they should get. The absolute worst in customer service but because theyre the only high speed option for many, they survive. This company should be banned and its infrastructure taken over by the people.
Horrible connection. Im paying for Netflix but the signal is so spotty at least twice a week I cant stream movies or programs in the evening. Also, very expensive for such poor service. Just saw a promo for bundling TV and internet for $39.95 a month... were paying $65 a month just for internet. If it were 1/2 that cost I could bear the inconsistent quality; given the price its a rip off!!
Terrible. I end up using phone to get internet in a pinch - like now! I dont think I have another choice for internet but am looking into it. They say 100mbps but when I do a speed test I get between .8 and 2 mbps. I think the lack of competition is a big problem...if there were competition could they get away with a rating of 1.8 stars?
Do you realize you can not get your statement itemized. your statement is in groups so you dont know what you are paying for your tv set line by line or phone or internet. nice and what about all the other charges 15.00 for taxes and surcharges. I wanted to see what I was paying because I wanted to downgrade The only way I could do it is cancel everything which is not a bad idea. I am totally disgusted.
I rarely get speeds close to what I pay for. The internet speed is so bad that I can barely even load the page to run a speed test. Ive called customer service multiple times to get my speeds fixed and they always fix it for like 10 minutes and then it gets back to the low speeds that I wanted fixed
The staff at this location did an excellent jobWent to 5 different locations to get the phonesI was going to switch to t-mobile because spectrum had done a lousy job especially the location on Erie blvd in syracuse there asst.manager joseph Macdonald should be fired but Miriam at the ithacha loction saved spectrum a customer what great job she did and we walked away with new phones
Last evening while waiting up to three minutes to get connected to the URL I was searching, I decided to run a speed test. Mind you, I have TURBO service and am supposed to have download speeds of 30 or better. The test timed out (meaning, I presume it was unable to connect) several times before it was able to give me my first reading. In the space of ten minutes I got readings of 32.15; 19.18; and 9.10. I am searching for an alternative. It is maddening to pay (a lot) for a service Im not receiving, and frustrating not to be able to effectively do work from home. You guys really need to get your act together. Im looking for other options.
Spectrums Assist program touts itself as a friend of the working person with their tagline: everyone should have access to reliable, high-speed Internet, but have misleading fine print. Even though my family financially qualifies, because we already have service, we have to continue PAYING MORE than the cost of their Assist program FOR SLOWER SERVICE. They make full use of their monopoly, pretend to be a great compassionate company, and its despicable.
Really the worst company in the world with regards to customer service, quality of product, etc. It was close to impossible to cancel my service, and just now, a year and a half later, I get a call saying I owe $150 in equipment charges. It is truly impossible to rid your life of this company.
It is the WORST cable channel with the WORST price, service, and infrastructure PROBLEMS. Whenever there is either a heavy rain, heavy snow, or very cold weather, the TV channels are either unaccessible, or unwatchable. Time Warner came many many times, but has NEVER BEEN ABLE or willing to solve the infrastructure problem of the cable boxes in this area. Shame, Shame, Shame, TIME WARNER
Actual copy/paste from a chat transcript:Agent>I am really sorry but there is no way to access it online without having cable tv service with a digital cable box.Luke_> so what youre saying is that I need to bring a box into my house in order to use an online loginLuke_> even if that box will literally never get plugged in?Agent> yes, correct.Luke_> cant we just skip that step?and that summarizes it all pretty well.
SIGNED UP FOR UNLIMITED MOBILE, TOOK OVER AN HOUR FOR CLUELESS EMPLOYEE TO GET ME SETUP, THEN MY MONTHLY BILL WAS $500 AND SPECTRUM SAID I WASNT ON UNLIMITED DATA AND REFUSED TO REFUND MY MONEY. THEY REFUSE TO GIVE YOU CUSTOMER SERVICE IN PERSON AND MAKE YOU CALL A NUMBER SO THEY DONT ACTUALLY HAVE TO HELP YOU.
I wish I could rate the company 0 stars. Theyre only in business because they are the only provider of internet for many in Ithaca--including myself. Not so great at providing service, but excellent at price gouging. There should be some sort of regulation in place to prevent them from behaving in such a manner.
Caveat emptor definitely applies to TWC. Constantly monitor your billing and services. You may ...have gone on a promotional package that since expiredbe paying too much for what you getbe double billed for some servicesnot be getting what youre paying for (eg high speed internet)be able to negotiate a better deal at any timebe able to cut services and get them through streamingcut cable TV altogether
After weeks of dealing with spectrums incompetence, I realize the only people that know what theyre doing are the service techs. They fixed what phone people and store workers couldnt fix and should have been (according to the tech). If there was another source of internet besides Verizon Id drop them in a heartbeat
I dont even want to give it 1 star.. customer service sucks..intetnet sucks... 3 times I scheduled go get internet fixed and 3 times thier worker had a family issue...that is 8 hours of my life wasted..waiting and calling costetmer service, whom didnt even know what time zone i was in....im turning in all thier junk...
They are frequently unhelpful, they are overpriced, they will outright lie to you regarding their services, they will nickle and dime you in any way possible, and their technical support is garbage.Theyre only in business in this town because of their monopoly. If you have any other option, please take it.
Overbooked, you MUST check in at front of store to get on the Waiting List on big monitor at right BACK of store! NO COMFORTABLE SEATS!, but they played Green Day on the stereo during the huge long wait, so theres that! But?WHY IS MY ADDRESS LINKED TO 1658 TRUMANSBURG RD, THE Route 96 Self-Storage, when its 1668 Trumansburg Rd?Hmm. Some people got some answering to do!OOPS- Rosie-Anne Quvus AKA Bonze Anne Rose Blayk

2022-06-19Literally the worst service i have ever experienced in my life. they forgot to include two cables that i needed, so i scheduled a technician visit. waited over two hours for them to show up, then was informed after calling that the appointment had been rescheduled for tomorrow without my knowledge, on a day that i have to work. it’s been a week and i still have no internet. if there was any other option in this town no one would use this service.

2022-06-18The customer service rep that we worked with was very unfriendly and after the group in front of us left the store when we went up to the desk rudely told us to go back and sit down and wait. Also as a company absolutely hate spectrum. Put them constantly goes down, but its the only local option, so were stuck with it. I also hate that spectrum is constantly sending the ads to buy more services - I have no interest in TV service and never will especially not for their awful prices.

2022-07-03Worse then going to the DMV. Went in to ask if I left my credit card there. They seemed annoyed about my request then told me they would look when they got time. 20 minutes later I just left. Thanks for the help!Update...went in to pay my bill.. the pay machine was yet again broken. One cashier was open but did not take cash. Why should it take 30 to 40 minutes to pay a bill. And futher more why cant the keep the pay machine working. Arent they in the tec space! God forbid I should need to replace my modem...that surely will be a nightmare. Get it together spectrum for real!!

2021-12-03My husband and I had a highly positive experience at the Spectrum Ithaca, NY store. Both the manager, Tabitha, and clerk, Melanie, were highly responsive, friendly, efficient, and persistent as we switched our mobile service from AT&T to Spectrum (no easy feat!). Additionally they provided respectful customer service to other customers, going out of their way to try and resolve issues. Great job, Tabitha and Melanie!

2022-01-25Really disappointed in how I was treated by the customer service team. Wish there was an easier way to get tech support and through kinder people. Monopolies are a bad idea

2021-11-18Hideously poor customer service, completely unjustifiable surcharges, random price gouging, and average to mediocre intnernet/tv/phone service. Ive had the distinct displeasure of having no choice but to use Spectrum for the years Ive lived in Ithaca and if there was a single other internet provider in the area that individuals could access, I would have switched the first time my bill went up with no explanation. When I tried to adjust my services over the phone with a representative, she took THIRTY MINUTES of my time trying to convince me to sign on for other services, constantly repeating the Progressive Insurance slogan of the more you bundle the more you save, even after multiple repetitions of no thank you I am not interested in keeping the service Im trying to drop, nor am I interested in adding another service.I have been patronized in person by store employees about my cell phone provider and station in life, again berated for what felt like an eternity because I didnt want to sign up for Spectrum mobile. I would sooner get rid of my cell phone altogether than sign up for Spectrum mobile. The Spectrum model of having monopoly over internet services in an area and taking that power as a license to financially and verbally accost and punish their customers is a genuinely evil MO. Every money saving offer has a time and money eating downside when it expires, as overnight your monthly price skyrockets and employees will deploy every tactic to try and make adjusting your services as frustrating and difficult as possible. Every good looking deal will turn into a financial drain that you wish you could escape. Every positive review on this site, I strongly suspect, is created by an engagement bot to correct the sheer number of 1-2 star reviews this establishment deservedly received from dissatisfied customers. Avoid if possible.

2021-08-28Terrible service. 6 registers, 3 employees, 4 people waiting for service, and only one employee helping someone. One of them even left for a break with customers waiting. When my partner returned our broken router (which they couldnt or wouldnt replace), she was informed that our bill after dropping services was increasing about 30%, and after complaining, she returned home to find our internet had been disconnected.Theyre either incompetent, or disconnected our internet our of spite for complaining about their pandemic price gouging and monopoly.Either way, that store needs an entirely new staff before Id consider using them for anything. Unprofessional, unknowledgeable, and spiteful is how I would characterize their employees.Avoid at all costs.

2021-07-20Cell service is okay, internet is horrible. Internet service is slow, very unreliable, internet cuts out all the time, with random outages, slow, even though they raised their prices (without telling me). Its all we have so they have us cornered, and price gouge accordingly. I live just south of Ithaca currently and its just ridiculously bad. Especially lately. Internet will cut out randomly 2 or 3 times a day or more. I know we have had a lot of rain and thunderstorms lately, but come on. They say no issues, but clearly they have issues. Its not my hardware, that I can tell you.

2021-08-03The staff here is very helpful. Before I came to this store, I tried to call the customer service to cancel my internet service. It took forever to get someone on the line, then I needed to answer a lot of weird questions, and finally the agent hung up without saying anything because I couldnt understand one of her questions. Then I came to this store, and it took only 3 minutes to cancel my internet service.

2021-07-27Worst internet provider Ive ever dealt with customer service was alright but I called almost everyday due to connection problems and internet turning on and off. They told me it was probably my coverage so I moved to the city and same thing. After that I was so mad that I moved to an area that offered another provider screw that not sure how people deal with these providers.
