Spice Thai in other cities:
The food was amazing! It was the first time eating Thai food, and boy, was it wonderful. The food really filled up my stomach. I had Black Noodles and they pit it in a bowl. It had some lettuce and eggs to go with it, and I couldnt finish half of it. *chuckles* Its like they knew their customers wouldnt be able to finish all their food at once. Hence the reason they would give us the option to take leftovers home. That way well finish our food later. And thats what I did. Overall, Spice Thai was great! I loved eating there, and I hope to come back again. :)
I have been a long-time patron of Spice Thai Kitchen—if you can remember its original cozy location off Union Square, that’s how long I have been noshing on their tasty vittles. My time at this location, was just as perfect as every other visit. One of my high school gal-pals and I had, initially, chosen a different venue for our annual catch-up dinner; that locale, however, did not allow for parking, and seemed relatively too small for our liking. We opted to go to our “tried and true” Spice Thai Kitchen. We were able to get a parking spot across the street from the restaurant, and, we were immediately seated at our usual table, after providing proof of our COVID vaccinations. Once seated, we were greeted by our server, who provided us with menus and took our drink order. From that point forward, our food was served expeditiously and was always at the proper temperature. My friend and I shared the calamari (one of our favorites), we tried the whole wheat vegetarian dumplings (something new and tasty); I also ordered the Caesar salad and the pork chop (my usual choice), which never disappoint me😋. For a beverage, I had Thai Iced Tea, which is always yummy! The food is always a great at this popular NYC locale, but what also makes this spot a worthwhile stop is the staff. My friend and I sat and talked for hours, as we had much to share. Despite our bill being closed, they did not rush us, and still offered water whilst we chatted. I found this kind of hospitality to be humble and gracious, and that is something I often appreciate when patronizing local gastropub. The staff at this venue was pleasant and professional. This business has grown exponentially, over the years, and I am glad that it has not forgotten that it is the patrons who have allowed that.
Cute, modern decor. Its a step outside of Thai Town but still delivers the authentic taste. We usually end up here every time someone craves curry, but I personally love their house noodles. The ladies who run this restaurant are so sweet. Id give it five stars but service can be slow at times. But food-wise? Its legit.
I usually eat in at this location and the food is always great. But the past 5 times that I’ve ordered out the food was not up to par. It was bland and not prepared well. The red curry today looked like the coconut milk was not good. Wish I could get my money back to be honest. I love this restaurant but I am done giving them my money.
My husband and I cam here for a mid week date night last night and was very disappointed. Usually Spice does not disappoint but the ones in Brooklyn however seem to be a different story. Starting of with what I actually liked, the neighbourhood (park slope) how could that be wrong, the size and ambiance of the place was a plus. The fact that its not too small and the lighting (candles on the table ) and the music playing softly made it a good start. When it came time to ordering drinks and apps is when it started to do down hill. The drinks: my hubby and I wanted the mandarin roy, which we always get at all Spice locations except this one. We were told that they never heard of it and when I proceeded to show them on the website they said that they have a limited bar and they cant make it. Now this should of been my sign for us to take date night somewhere else but trying now to be fussy (as I usually am) I said okay and ordered a lychee martini for myself and a ginger one for the hubby. My martini tasted like cold water with one lychee in it (sign number 2) but okay were trying to have a good night out so I suck it up and said nothing. We then ordered the walnut shrimp and the calimari, the shrimp was ok not really seasoned but the calimari batter was over fried and there was more bits of fried batter than actual squid. Stil smiling for the hubby and being polite we proceed to order our entrées. My hubby had the honey duck and I had the spicy lo mein, now lets talk about this SPICY lo mein. I ordered it extra extra spicy, I am an island woman and I like it HOT HOT HOT. Somehow that translated to SUPER SWEET in the kitchen, what was bought to me looked and tasted like a quick cook ground pork with bits of broken spaghetti. I proceed to ask if they had any ground chilies or Korean red pepper flake or paste....... I was told to wait while they checked. After a while the waiter/ hostess returned with some chili paste which looked like sambal olek and some black pepper in a shaker which looks like it has not seen the ligh of day since the 90s. So I picked at my plate and made small talk with my hubby and when he asked about my food I said that I was full ( but he knows me well) . So the bill comes and we pay, the waiter/ hostess who is wearing shorts and a t-shirt stands over me while I sign the table (with my finger) and ask me about a tip (really) Now usually I tip well so seeing that I did not have and enjoyable experiance or anything nice to say I di not give a tip. He then proceeded to say You didnt tip, you didnt tip so I replied I know, he then said You tip in cash to which I replied no. He says You dont like our food, we work for tips, what didnt you like? I replied everything he catches and attitude and starts speaking in hia native language to the staff in the back from the front of the place. I did not care, Spice you have to do better at your Brooklyn locations.I wrote this from my side because my hubby will write a review of his own about his experience.
My husband and I Got food poisoning after eating their food. We didn’t even get to eat the calamari because the smell was so strong. It stunk My whole house up when I tossed it . Because of this , I tried calling them for a few days to advise them of the issue and they wouldn’t answer the phones to me which I find extremely odd as we never got to discuss the issues. Almost comes off as if they knew I would call about this. Here’s photos of me calling them during business hours and never getting an answer from them. I tried to contact the restaurant and obviously can’t get through so I’m forced to write this review. I want a refund after what we went through that night and after, I am also going to reach out to the health department
I love this restaurant & I’ve been coming here for 5 years with friends and colleagues. I’m leaving one star because today I found a live roach in my Thai tea... the food was good as usual and the staff was great, but I noticed the roach crawling out of my drink toward the end of my meal.I can’t say I’ll be back to this location again. So disappointed because this was the only Thai restaurant I’ve ever eaten from. Do better.
The food is always good but as of todays visit the hostess on todays visit had the audacity to demand how she was going to receive her tip. I really dont understand where this line of questioning came from, but it was highly ina. ppropriate and I feel like it was racially driven. I am not spending my money where it is nor appreciated. Everyone wants you to stand with them when its convenient for them but treat you with such blatant disrespect otherwise. Keep your coins and spend them where they are app
I loved the option of sitting in the back. I really enjoyed the black noodles. It was very delectable however the white fish was tasteless. Lacked any seasoning. We had a roll and we didnt like it. They were gracious to ask to substitute it for something else without us asking.
Was excited to go since we hadnt been out for so long and we were celebrating... Very disappointing, and not what I am used to from Spice. Sadly the Panang chicken curry wasnt tasty at all. I had asked for medium spicy, but honestly, hot was the only flavor that we got... There was barely any choice in fish dishes and the fish that we ordered was only fair. The staff was prompt and efficient, nothing to say about friendliness... Maybe too much to ask..?
I visited this Spice location on Sunday 1.26.20. I came with a crowd of 35. Initially they were not prepared to cater or seat that many but eventually they got us all in and in a timely manner. Waiters worked efficiently. The food did not take too long and it was incredibly fresh. Everyone enjoyed every morsel. However, the only issue was that the waiters were not as attentive as they could be. We all assumed that on this Sunday it was too big of a crowd that came in unexpected and didnt have enough staff but it would have been nice for us to have someone stop by and ask how were doing. We wanted separate bills for our tables instead of paying a massive bill but they initially said no. We were nice enough to ask again politely and they obliged. My table only had two of us but we paid 18% gratuity and taxes. I get it make your money but after the two of us spent $60.00 when I gave in cash and asked for change back the woman did not return it. She probably assumed whatever extra was hers. I wasnt that satisfied with my waiter. I could tell she was overwhelmed although we were really pleasant and stayed away. Overall was a pleasant experience I would say just check your bill and make sure they understand everything that you are saying. We may return.
Theres lots of good Thai restaurants. This is one of the better ones. Nice decor in an open yet intimate space. Excellent food with some unique items, a really good lunch special and good service. Regular menu is really good too. I found this place even worth the trip from my work in Downtown Brooklyn once in a while for lunch.
My boyfriend and I love this place!!! We crave the drunken noodles with the chicken/mixed seafood, it’s incredible, we order that every time without fail! Everything we’ve tried here we’ve loved and highly recommend:Asian wontons, jade seafood dumplings, andaman dumplings, ozaka gyoza, lemongrass Tom yum soup (so good!), pad Thai fried rice (amazing!), Spicy Bamboo chicken, red curry. We’re moving out of the neighborhood now but when we’re back this is definitely going to be our go to place!
The pork buns were delicious! 😋Unfortunately the wings were TERRIBLE. I could see the (barely there) sauce but it had no flavor at all. The chicken itself was kinda rubbery. I couldnt believe how long I had been chewing & it STILL didnt break down enough to swallow. I threw out the whole thing.
To say I was impressed by this place is an understatement. Most Thai restaurants that Ive been to in New York City do not have much heat in their food. I told the chef to burn my face off and he delivered. Everything that I ordered was perfect from the appetizers to the main course that me and my girlfriend shared to the desert was amazing.Their entire menu, with pictures of what you were going to be ordering, is on their website. We ordered Pad Thai spring rolls, chicken gyoza, Siam buns and golden fritters for the appetizer. All four of those came out absolutely amazing. I ordered a Mojito and I felt like I was in Cuba, or at least Miami. For the main course, I ordered the Thai basil and told them to make an extra spicy. I asked them if they used Thai Dragon chillies and they in fact do. The only downside to this place is how small it is. It doesnt have much decoration, but it is a solid and genuine Thai experience. I grew up with Thai food and I will be returning to this place on many occasions.
It was my third time eating at this particular restaurant since moving to the neighborhood. I am Vegan, and I really like that Spice has a Vegetarian portion of their menu. However, with this particular visit I didnt have a great experience with the hostess. I ordered the dish I had the previous two visits and she told me that she couldnt place the order because it wasnt on the menu and therefore wasnt suggested. I wanted rice noodles instead of rice and vegetarian duck added. Simple. However, the hostess refused to accept my order and chose to ask me if I was going to send back the dish to the kitchen before even putting in my order. In the end the meal wasnt as enjoyable as my previous visits.it was an unpleasant experience as it made me question if I want to go back.
The food here is amazing. My boyfriend was dying for some Thai food for the longest while and after checking out a few places online we decided to try here. Not disappointed in the least. Even as a vegetarian, they have a great assortment to choose from.Price though is a bit high and sadly they dont deliver to me while other stores in the area do.
You can get consistency with the food and there’s enough variety in the menu. The staff is efficient and also there a nice charm the location has to it. They usually can make any refreshing drink you have in mind and they can be a good place if you have a small or medium size party or group
Been to this location quite a few times, and each time the quality of the food is different. Ive experience from tasty, to bland. Recently, went 3 weeks ago, and it was certainly better. A few new items on the menu, and it was quite good (maybe a change in chef ?). Either way, Ill still come to this location, since its the closest, but also customer service has always been welcoming.
Their prices are higher in person than online! $8 for curry online; $8.50 in person. Youre already paying a tip for the service, so it doesnt make sense to add even more fees. Raise or lower, whatever, but equalize them. The service is minimal. Not terribly fast but not particularly slow. The Pad Thai did come with an appetizer, which was nice. I got the vegetable dumplings, and there were four rather large ones. The Pad Thai itself was awful -- sweet and not spicy. Not sure why Thai places always do this -- if I wanted sweet Id go to an Americanized Chinese place.Their prices are pretty good for the city -- $8.50 for the Pad Thai. Maybe Ill order online next time -- lower prices and Ill get to try something better.
Friendly waiters, the restaurant had courtyard seating, weather was perfect so it was very nice oitaide. Blah food! I tried the Chicken Wings with Tamarind Chili Sauce, not a hint of tamarind or chili just a thick overly sweet sauce. Next I tried the Stuffed Crab Ragoon, the wanton was crispy but the crab meat filling was a tasteless paste. My friend had the vegetable style noodle...price was moderate and the wait time for food was not very long.
We got there and they tried to tell us that they werent accepting reservations when clearly I had a reservation. The drinks were gross, but the food was good. They just couldnt handle the volume for new years. I literally live 8 min away from this place and wont be back. Hire more staff and figure out how to run a restaurant.
The first time I went there it was pretty good, the second time was not so good bc I ordered a 3 spiced salmon (something of that nature) but the salmon was very bland and small...so small that I thought maybe the taste was in middle spilt in half and ate half and I still couldnt taste a darn spice...my gf had suggested that I send it back, but It was too late. Nonetheless the other time the food was good
I visited spice yesterday and the food was okay! The food took a long time to come, even the people dining next to me were complaining. The food is good, the service is okay. The restaurant is clean but the bathroom could be cleaner and have toilet paper for their customers!
Worst experience ever. Ordered food from here for delivery. Two hours later, I tried to contact them because at this point I was annoyed and hungry. I got an automated recording and no one picked up on the other end. Meanwhile, I had gone out to just get food because I seriously thought they werent going to deliver, especially after I called twice! I told the guy he was very late and that i tried to cancel the order and all he said was ok and hung up on my face. Never ordering from here again!
The menu was very misleading on the price. On the online menu, the price of the Pad Thai is listed at $8, but the menu in the restaurant lists the price as $12.50. False advertising. The food was good, but the bait-and-switch on the price made the experience very bad.
There was a piece of raw chicken on my plate. Upon discovering the raw chicken, I spoke to the waitress and she was very unapologetic about it. She looked at me with a blank face and had to ask other waitstaff how to deal with the situation. My plate vanished to the back of the kitchen and they brought me a new plate of the same order without asking whether or not I wanted the same dish as a replacement. Terrible service, avoid at all costs!
This place has no customer service thats one nxt me an my sister have been eating at spice for yrs on e 13st in Manhattan by Union square the food their is amazing an customer service this location here in bk is a disgrace the food is horrible very horrible I had to ask the manager do all of the spice locations follow the same recipe because this is not acceptable I even had to tell him that I been to the location on Smith an it was excellent just like the one in Union square this location is a big disgrace to all spices an they need to get it together the food is horrible an customer service is horrible please get it together
I caught one of the chefs repeatedly digging in his nose in the kitchen. I walked up to him to tell him to go wash his hands and he denied it even though I saw him do it repeated while I was sitting down. I had to get a manager to address him about it and that was when he went to wash his hands. But I doubt he washed it cuz it took 3 ppl to tell him until he finally did it. Never again
They completely missed the mark on that one. I just wanted a quick and a simple dinner. I ordered summer rolls and crab rangoons. The summer rolls were basically of bunch of shredded lettuce in a wrap. $11 is a little steep for lettuce. The crab rangoons barely had any cream cheese in them and they were super greasy. Couldn’t even absorb the grease out of them with the napkins they DIDN’T provide even though I asked for utensils and napkins. Not going there ever again!!

2022-07-11Heard about this spot, almost went out to eat there, but decided to just order in…Most of it was decent, ain’t gonna lie. Me and my girl got some wings, some shrimp dumplings, pad see ew with shrimp, and fried snapper with red massaman curry. The only reason I ordered from here is cause my go-to spot was closed, it was a Monday. But whatever, I open my bag of food and look at my “fried snapper” and it’s a whole tilapia. Pictures attached. Idk how much it was, but definitely more than it was worth. I took a bite just to taste and confirm, but I was already sure when I looked at it. My girl tasted it too. They DEFINITELY sold me a tilapia and advertised it as a snapper, that’s crazy! Never ordering from them again, and definitely never going to eat there. The curry sauce was good though, and it came with some coconut rice that was weirdly packed but still tasty, but I was expecting a decent fish and they played me! 🫥

2021-12-15I’d ordered two drunk man noodles, one extra spicy, both came with regular spicy. Ordered curry puffs, got steamed veggies. Also got a side of COLD brown rice to go with one of my dishes. 🤦🏻♀️ The food itself (that we’d actually ordered) was ok. I ordered through Uber Eats and when I called the restaurant to confirm my order was picked up because it was delayed half an hour, the lady who answered had never seen or heard of my order. Not ordering here again.

2022-06-04Absolutely delicious drunken noodles. Their basil chicken egg rolls, with the assortment of sauces, makes my mouth water whenever I think about them, even now as I type. Thai Iced tea was delicious, and not too sweet.

2019-08-28Came here with a colleague and the food was ok. Not anything special, I would of enjoyed a Popeyes Chicken sandwich over their Pad Thai. Asked CoCo (he said his name was CoCo)(CoCo is in the green shirt in picture#3) the server to explain the selection of the lunch menu and the guy got an attitude with me when I asked him about the different selections. Poor customer service minus good food equals a 1 star. Then he tells me the fountain ginger ale is the same as a can of Seagrams ginger ale $3.00 I told him that makes no sense for such a mark up for fountain soda. He says sorry I dont have fountain soda, only the can. I took the can with a glass of ice. Then they mixed up the placement of our appetizers and my friend ate mine. So I asked for a replacement. CoCo brings out the replacement appetizer with a screw face and slams down the plate. You lucky I gave you a $1 tip. I got sick from your food a few hours later so I will be calling the NYC health department. I hope the owner reads this review because you need help. Please refer to the pictures of the food, decor and staff as part of my review.

2019-05-05Friendly staff, clean, place, food was both tastey and ok. The Drunken Noodles I ordered was described as spicy, however it was bland, no kick, I had to add a lot of spicy sauce to it.The staff is slow and seem over worked but for no reason since it is a fairly small size restaurant.I like the pina colada, was sweet and refreshing. The appetizers were the best part. I recommend getting drinks and appetizers.Pluses: food arrives fast and hot,Its a draw. I recommend, but warn staff is friendly but needs to focus on you.

2019-08-26First of all, the customer service was bad. I came in and wasnt greeted or even told where to sit. Very unorganized. We got the menus and they took so long to attend us and bring us water. The food was okay as well. The chicken pad thai was bland, I had to drench it with spicy sauce in order for it to have some flavor.

2022-01-17Nice place, very clean to have Thai food 😋. Very nice service personal, food is well presented and tasted good. First time having Sake, had the Lychee Sake, was very refreshing. We had the Asian Crispy Fish Taco yumm. Chee Chu Duck, the duck tasted so good, not really fan of the sauce. I definitely will go back, i recommend this place.
