Very slow service! Even with only 1 other 3 person table & we were party of 5. ;) other than that, standard Indian restaurant menu in America reasonably well executed. Channa chat & samosa chat exact same dish except the samosa. I like that the veg dishes are separated out on the menu from noon veg in both apps & mains. Masada Chai was rich.Other big negative that makes me want to downgrade stars even more is that the take out was in Styrofoam! Thank goodness I only asked for one! I didnt get the back story, maybe theyre using up a stockpile or its supply chain issues... but really, Bbooh, get with 2022, this kills the environment.
Amazing Indian food! They have started the buffet with a lot of variety. The staff follows covid precautions. Great options for both vegetarians and meat lovers. Chaat was on point, loved the butter chicken and naan. Medu vada was really good with the sambar. Very authentic indian food. Highly recommend this place.
Dined In once and everything was great ordered to go after was ehhh just a waste of money thought maybe they just had a off day so ordered again tonight and I threw it in the trash it was all oil called in and let them know guy said ok well there’s nothing I can do .. save ur money and order from karavalli in Latham it’s 100x better every time
The food was delicious and the service was excellent! We came in just as they were opening up for dinner and were the only customers there for almost an hour so it was nice and quiet and the food came out quickly! You have to try the aloo naan. Its a staple, and a meal in itself. I had a vegetarian entree but the regular ones looked just as good. Definitely worth trying out if you havent before! Live 3 hours away but will be back next time Im in the area for sure.
Wasnt expecting to have this good of an experience. From the taste of the food, to presentation, to service, everything was excellent. Naan with methi mali paneer (unique sabhji which you wont find anywhere else) was really tasty. The chilli chicken for appetizer was amazing. They also have dinner buffet nights on Tuesdays & Thrusdays. The entire staff is very professional specially Ranjeet who was very helpful and provided upmost service. Tried other indian restaurant in the area but nothing came close to this one. Would highly recommend to try.
We had a very nice meal sitting outside right by the street. Service was very good and reminded me of fine dining in the east where every member of service team says thank you to you for allowing them to pour your water, bring your food, etc. It’s a nice touch. Excellent and very authentic Indian food. Not as Americanized as some other places. Well done, Spicy Mint.
Fantastic restaurant! Reasonably priced Id say and delicious food with good portions. Beyond the food, the service was impeccable! The wait staff was friendly and wouldnt be gone for a while, nicely checking in on you, refilling you water, and asking if you need any more complimentary rice or anything else.
Dont go and waste your money and your peace of mind. Something is off from the moment you enter that place to the minute you leave.1. We have to wait forever to be seated because the person who takes you to the table is busy in taking checks.2. When water is placed on the table (bottled water), they DO NOT inform you that they will charge you for it - Its just a scam.3. Food is not good. Its either not cooked through out or its tastes like a non-Indian food. Not satisfied4. You were never given a bill. They just tell you to come to front desk to pay for the bill. By doing so, you will be standing in line to pay the bill and in turn new customers need to wait to get a table.Such a worst experience ever.
The man that took my order was very nice but we didn’t receive our drinks and even though I told them my place of business and even answered the phone multiple times to let the driver lady know the business she still delivered to the wrong address. I work in a plaza and every address is the same as to why I specifically told her the name. She called me about 10 times and scolded me for not answering when I have food being delivered.. like I’m at work… she said “so am I” extremely rude delivery you driver. Even though the food was good I never want to see her again so I will never be ordering from here again.
When they asked if you wanted water, I didnt realize they would be bringing bottled water and charging you for it. That was a new one for me.The food is pretty good. Not much on the ambiance here. A continuous and loud music of bad pop covers makes it hard to have a conversation. The restaurant is pretty focused on take out orders, so patrons dining in may have a hard time getting timely service at the tables.
Food was almost bland, and the rice, and lamb were so over cooked- it was not enjoyable. Let down of a date night.Im updating my review!!! Weve been back several times, and the food was amazing. They have a great lunch buffet, and we were pleased. Im glad we gave them another try!!!
This place is legit! The nan is buttery, almost creamy! The vindaloo is as spicy as you want! I eat Indian food regularly, and this is my new go to when Im in Albany! Wow...just wow. If I thought I could loosen my belt any more I would order another dish tonight! I would post photos but I ate every last bite haha.
Giving 1 star because zero was not an option just like I had no option to curse myself taking food from here today. Ordered plain dosa, paneer tikka masala , butter naan and Veg Biryani. Worst Stale food ever had. Naan were stale and no butter on them. Paneer gravy was like salt mixed in water and sambhar was all water. Veg biryani had no biryani masala and was just stale plain yellow rice with peas as only vegetable. They ruined a small birthday dinner for some cheap money making and served tasteless, stale and useless food. NEVER EVER Again.
The Spicy Mint is so amazing. There are a number of good Indian restaurants in the Capital district but I have to say that Spicy Mint is my favorite, hands down. I had not dined in at a restaurant since 2020. And Im happy to say they have not missed a step. The food is OUTSTANDING, and it is important for us to support our local restaurants. Especially one this great. These are some tough times for restaurants. So if you love Indian cuisine youve really got to get to the Spicy Mint. I promise you will not be disappointed. My personal favorite dishes are the chicken tikka saag, chicken tikka masala, the chili chicken, and the chicken biryani. This place is so freaking good that I went back 2 days later for takeout because I couldnt stop thinking about it. Oh, and also amazing samosas. This place rules!!
My family and I enjoyed a lovely meal at yesterdays buffet. Not only was the food delicious, but it was presented in such an inviting way along the buffet table. The COVID protocols were in place, but did not hinder the experience in any way. The restaurant was very clean and orderly. The hostess and a young man assisting her were very courteous and organized. This is our first buffet there since COVID shut everyone down in March of 2020. We were frequent customers before then. I did notice a change in the buffet offerings and perhaps some differences in the food, most likely due to new cooks with their own unique cooking styles. We enjoyed the new just as much as the dishes offered a year ago...very good. We missed Spicy Mint and well be happy to get back to our weekly Sunday family meal there.
We visited the Spicy Mint today for dinner around 7 pm with family (with kids).. we asked a question to the server (Mr. Sakir) about the food served to us as it was cold. He raised his voice on us in front of the other customer.. said if we need the better food, we should pay additional.. this is what you will get for $8 dosa....We asked him if can we contact the owner.. he said he is the only owner of the spicy mint recklessly and there is no one else.. we told him his behavior is not right towards the customer.. later he realized and apologized.. we left our food, paid the bill and said to ourself that we would never come back to this restaurant.
Average food - noodles is basically pasts dowsed in curry. Owner stopped by to threaten to charge 5$ for wasting food - & highly over priced 58$ for 3 people for a small lunch buffet. Do not recommend! Albany has an abundance to exceptional places to serve as alternatives.
I write to compliment this Spicy Mint Indian Cuisine Restaurant because it deserves it. I have been to many restaurants but this restaurant has been my most favorite one because of its outstanding food quality, cleanliness, and service. I have recommended many friends here, and they all love this Spicy Mint Indian Cuisine Restaurant. It is worth trying its food!!
Excellent selection and fair prices. Food is delicious, with a wide variety of tastes and heat levels. Butter chicken, kormas, curries, hot vindaloo, Biryanis and more. Appetizers are also excellent, especially their chilis (battered fried veg or chicken on a sweet spicy chili sauce) and fried chili peppers. Of course, they have a number of vegetarian and seafood options. Would recommend, and cant wait to go again.
Worst Indian restaurant with below average food too oily Gobhi Manchuria with no flavor at all . Ordered chola Bhatia’s again this was not good at all so thought let me ask for some cut onions so hard somehow we can eat it , the guy charged 4 dollars for cut onions and a slice lemon separately and our third order harayali chicken was worst , chicken was stale and chutney was not good . Nothing was good wasted a lot of money seeing online reviews , 4.2 out of 5 rating they don’t deserve it it’s all fake ratings .In an so angry they really don’t know how to cook authentic Indian food . Their food only has cream oil but no flavor and charge so much .Will never visit againPlease don’t visit or you will regret it
Very disappointed with the buffet. Last time (pre-covid) we went for a friday buffet which had more varieties and it was tasty too. Todays buffet - the chicken biryani, lamb, potato snack, rasgulla was not fresh at all and was stale food. Could do much better to improve the quality and varieties. Not worth paying $14.95 for this kind of food :(
Food wasn’t Tasty. Aloo Bonda has weird smell. Noodles are hard. Chapli kabab wasn’t good. Shrimp fry pieces are hard. Potato curry in poori wasn’t cooked well. Sambar was watery. Goat curry isn’t tasty it’s watery. Lamb biryani beside egg curry wasn’t good. Baklava’s are not fresh. 1/5 Food rating. Idli isn’t fresh. Vada isn’t fresh. Coconut chutney isn’t fresh. If you’re a South Indian it’s not the area to visit and taste the food. Please visit some other good Indian restaurants other than 9 spices.
I ordered mysoor masala dosa and idli with extra sambhar. The guy at the counter charged me extra money for the sambhar that had no hint of any lentil and had literally water consistency, was completely bland. Highly disappointed by their service, will never order from the restaurant. The worst south indian I ever came across. 🤮🤮
Amazing food! This is the only restaurant that comes to our mind when we have to eat vegetarian Indian food. Taste and service both is awesome. We had samosa chaat, malai kofta, paneer tikka masala and naan. Paneer tikka masala was okayish but malai kofta just fab👌 Have had their biryani before that too is yum.
We live about an hour away from Albany and if we are in the mood for Indian food we go to Maharaja (mostly because its the only place we know). We called to get take out this past Saturday and were told they are currently not doing take out orders. We had our minds set on Indian food so a quick Google search led us to Spicy Mint. We placed our order online and arrived when the email said the order should be ready. We were told it was not ready, but to come back in 10 or so minutes. After returning, the order was still not ready but the gentlemen at the front desk offered a complimentary beverage to apologize. We were in no hurry so this was definitely a nice gesture. The food was simply amazing. The chicken tikka masala, butter chicken and chicken biryani were so flavorful. The chicken was insanely tender and the samosa chaat (our first time trying) was my favorite part of the meal. We are so glad Maharaja stopped doing takeout so we could find Spicy Mint. Will definitely be back soon!
Worst and bland food !!!!! We ordered Paneer Butter Masala but it was a Paneer Water color masala. It was so bad and too watery. After eating, my husband’s hand was orange in color from the food color they added and rice was not fresh i m sure its old. I gave 1 star for the naan because only it was edible.
For a casual, informal and reasonably priced lunch and friendly staff, Spicy Mint s vegetarian - friendly buffet is an excellent choice. A cut above the competition.Update: I recently returned to Spicy Mint after an absence of about 18 months, and I regret that I feel the five-star rating is no longer merited. The owners and staff were very nice and the food was good. I loved the mango custard offered for dessert! However, plastic cups were in use everywhere! Apart from the unappealing look and feel, I could not fathom the number of plastic cups that were going to be added to our landfills and oceans by this restaurant. Yikes!!! I also missed the spiced hot tea that had previously been included, and felt that there was an over abundance of fried dishes at the buffet. I also missed seeing such familiar dishes as palak paneer and raita. I hope the new managers will seriously consider ditching the plastic cups and replacing some deep-fried items with lighter, vegetable dishes, and will bring back the tea.
This place was recommended to me, so me and my husband thought we would give it a try. Not very impressed at all. We ordered chicken tikka masala, chicken biryani with raita, and a plain naan. $34.50. Expensive for the quality and amount. I wish i had taken photos of our take out containers to post on here. They were not even full , as if someone had had some before we received it.Full scoops missing. Raita came in the smallest dipping container (like ketchup) was terrible here. Naan could’ve been cooked longer not toasted. Tikka masala okay. Biryani had chucks of meat ,throughout most of it bones and small sliver sized bones. we wont be ordering from here again. Maharaja Indian Restaurant remains our favorite at this time.
They have the best Indian buffet in Albany. I usually go there for their Sunday lunch buffet and it is worth every penny. The chicken is always very tender and juicy, be it in a curry or an appetizer. They have a good selection of vegetarian and non vegetarian options.
Looks like the chef and owner is also changed recently, missed the taste they had before, dosa was ok but coconut chutney and Sambaar was too bad, samosa chat lacked the chat taste and chole curry was stale, gobi Manchurian was too oily, never had such a bad experience here before but definitely the quality went down from 4 to 1. Felt like I wasted my money and time.
Friendly staff. Since I heres a pandemic going on and you have shortage of supplies, please Update what items are available in your menu. It took me a long time to ask the receptionist to verify what items are available. She said mutton isnt available until September. I would suggest you to please update that. I picked up food and the food was overwhelmed with salt. Please make sure your menu is updated so that we dont have to be disappointed when we order from the menu.
There buffet is wonderful. It is a mix of both northern an southern indian delicacies. I went here for the first time last week. Came back again the following week. I have yet to sit down and order from the menu. If the buffet is any bit representative of the rest of the food Im sure it will be marvelous. The staff is kind and accommodating. If you dont like spicy food they usually have some non spicy options. That being said i love spicy dishes, and they nail it every time. They also provide free nan with the buffet.( Update) Visited during the dinner on sunday and they knocked it out of the park. Service was great and the food was even better then I had hoped. Will be going back again.
This restaurant had been recommended by someone who luved in Southeast Asia for 8 years as probably the best Indian food in the Capital District. I went with my mom & my cousin. Both of them were very happy with their food. Although I enjoyed the onion pakora appetizer, my saag was liquid, & that turned me off from eating (or drinking) it. Maybe its just a different way of cooking from all the other Indian restaurants Ive enjoyed in several areas of the U.S.The staff was great and offered to get me something else instead. That, plus the fact that 2 out of the 3 of us loved their food, & I enjoyed the appetizer, led me to rate the restaurant at 4 stars.
This food was really good. I didnt know much going in but I walked in and its an Indian food buffet. Rice, then your assortment of curries and dishes. The chicken tikka masala was really good. And the service with the naan was very constant (though, Id wish the slices were a little bit bigger to hold more, but Im no expert). Only thing Id say was not very great was labeling of the dishes that were out. But its a buffet, try a little, and if you like it, go up for seconds or thirds! Was a good place to explore the cuisine, and could have your fill for one price. Cant beat it. Take your time and enjoy the meal!
Expensive. The quality and quantity of the food is poor. We eat Indian on the regular and decided to try this place. The chicken biryani was horrible, lots of grizzle and slivers of bone in the meat just poor quality. Chicken tika masala was mediocre. Very disappointed.
Probably the best Indian restaurant I have been to in Albany. Convenient to the airport and consistently good. They have buffet dosa and dinner nights but you can always order off the menu though it is limited in offerings (I have never had an issue ordering a dish but I am veggie). Def give it a try.
I am from NYC born and raised and with all the cultural diversity within the city its really hard to impress me with food outside of the city. The city raises a bar that is pretty hard to beat. I live in Loudonville and I am always looking for real food to eat. Ive found this Indian restaurant Spicy mint. My husband and I went into the restaurant to eat and it was amazing. Though the food was good and the service was great I was still reluctant because Ive experienced the inconsistently of the quality of food before. Again, I went, Ive also ordered food to go SEVERAL times and needless to say the food is AMAZING. Very flavorful every time, service is great EVERY TIME. I would definitely highly recommend this restaurant to those that love very good flavorful food and awesome customers service. BEST Ive had in the capital region THUS far.
My family are adventurous when it comes to food , we love international authentic foods & this is the best Indian restaurant we found so far. Jareet & the rest of the crew are very accommodating. Place is clean & foods are great . The only thing that I can think that needs improvement is the desserts can made less sweet🙂. We eat there once a week 👌
Absolutely fantastic and authentic Indian food . Wonderful blend of spices and heat .I ordered the goat vindaloo and it was absolutely delicious .The staff is super friendly and accommodating . They clearly care about their customers andthe customers experience.I will definitely be returning here every time I am in the area!!
The food was good depends on your taste but was definitely good for me and also think the $5 fee for wasting food is a good rule cause a lot of people take a lot and waste just take a little of everything and what u like take more of the next time around it’s a buffet people thank you
I visit Albany quite often and during my last visit I found this place on doordash and ordered their Spicy Mint Special Chicken Roast. I was totally blown away by the taste. It was probably the best chicken curry I have ever had in the US. It was hella spicy (just the way I like) and sooooooo goooood!!! I ate that for Lunch-Dinner-Lunch. Today I ordered Samosa, ChickenTikka (not too bad). They sent onion & chilli fritters along with Samosa (Thank you so much for that!!). I am so looking forward to my next visit and I already know what I am going to order :P
Negative ratings ! We ordered lamb and chicken biryanis and ended up throwing in the trash. Worst biryani till date we had ate in our lifetime. They call it biryani but I would say it’s not even close to pulav, don’t waste your money by ordering biryanis from this restaurant. Our dinner was barely palatable. It is awful !!!
Ahh, theres the warm fire in my belly of a fine vindaloo. Ill be back for sure. It has the character, consistency and complex heat of a good vindaloo but are missing the symphony of flowery flavors in the greatest vindaloos. But, hey Im coming back here, to and from the Albany airport.
This is a special review. We called the wrong restaurant and informed them a about group of 20 people showing up at 6 PM for dinner. We reached Spicy Mint just to find out we called the wrong restaurant. They oblivious of the fact not only embraced the situation but they ended up serving 35+ people with whatever order they had. We learned that they did it with only 2 cooks being it a Sunday evening. The whole thing remarkable and fed everybody. Kudos. Job extremely superbly done. Incomparable business ethics.
Good Indian food which offers South and North Indian Fare. We ordered Idli/Medu vada and a Tiki chaat. The Idli vada combo was super. Chhat- not so, in terms of taste and texture. We ordered Methi Matar Malai which is a house special and it was fantastic. A definite recommendation. Naan basket was great as well. Couldnt try the Rasmalai as they had run out of it. Good food overall
I highly recommended this place because their services and cleanliness is awesome..and I went for grand buffet every weekend and it’s awesome as well..food is delicious all curry is are no 1. Specially Methi Malaye and flavors-full chicken.biryani .highly recommended this place..Thank you
I was craving Indian food on Wednesday and we as a family liked the spicy mint buffet pre-Covid so i placed a big order for our lunch! My excitement abruptly went south when they forgot to include our palak panner and gave us RAW tandoori chicken! They replaced or chicken with burnt chicken and told me to specify WELL DONE chicken the next time i order. I didn’t know that one can eat chicken raw!!!! That chicken was pink and tough on the inside, with a slimy raw film still visible! Disgusting! I will NEVER order from this restaurant again!
One of my first Indian restaurants. Good buffet options for lunch and dinner. Especially like and recommend the dosa and chaat buffets on certain week nights. Would rank the food quality as above average, with really good south Indian dishes like dosas, idli, upma etc. desserts too!
Quality, quantity and service both make this my favorite Indian restaurant in the Troy-Albany-Latham-Clifton Park area (and I have probably visited close to 80% of the Indian restaurants around). Spicy Mint is a little pricier than your average Indian restaurant but still less expensive than Karavalli, for the same quality of food and service (if not better, at times). The ambiance is casual and the staff is super polite and friendly. The food here is the right combination of ingredients (and Im sure they will make your food spicier or bland upon request - havent had the need for such a recommendation yet). All in all, give it a try and you wont be disappointed!
**Changed my rating from 4 to 3 star seeing other peoples feedback regarding buffet. A restaurant must take customer feedback seriously.**Great food, kitchen staff seem passionate to serve fresh food, good service. Very heavily influenced by South Indian cuisine, but trust me, it is a good thing. Way better than the watery crap you get at some of the Indian restaurants around here.Only reason Im giving it 4 stars is because theyre not clear about the buffet they have on Thursday nights only. (I didnt even know they had a buffet). Me and my wife went there for regular dinner, saw buffet, sat down then realized theres no meat. But since we already started I didnt want to be like those fobby desi people without any restaurant etiquette. Food was delicious but, no meat. Then we got our bill and for two people, the buffet cost $30. Thats OUTRAGEOUS. When we went to pay my wife asked the front desk guy and he said it was a chaat themed buffet.Fair enough. Just a piece of advice, please be clear/advertise about the kind of buffet as normal expectation would be it would be similar to other places. Also, $15 for Chaat buffet is too expensive regardless of the quality. All in all, Ill def get food from there (we did end up taking some food to go), but not spending $15 on any kind of Desi buffet with or without any meat products. So for non buffet lunch/dinner, yes, great spot. Absolutely GREAT food and right prices. For buffets... NOOOOOO!!! LOL. Go to Curry House, Jewel of India or Nirvana for buffet.
Went here with my wife for a date night. Called ahead to set a reservation ( Saturday night on wolf road). Very pleased to see it was not crowded, even at 630.Menu was reasonable price, wide selection. I had a goat dish, the waiter was nice enough to ask spice intensity. I said to make it spicy, it was intense. Wife had her usual chicken tikki marsala. We were both pleased with the quality. Have gone to restaurants where the chicken is chewy/leathery, definitely not the case here.I grabbed a take out menu for later use. Very pleased
The food at Spicy Mint has been on point everytime I go in and there rarely seems to ever be a line. The customer service is good, in fact my server asked how I was enjoying my dessert and I told him it was excellent so he brought me a to go container full of it on the house.
Well done, authentic flavor pallette, lean meats, good variety of deliberate vegetarian dishes, wide menu, decent prices. One of best 3 for South Asian flavors in Albany discovered to date.** Bring a healthy appetite for the goodly portions of carefully prepared dishes. Buffet highly recommended, very wide array presented and well maintained. (Feb 19)Savory buffet: have enjoyed buffet several times, and though enjoyable before, theyve upped their game. The mirchi pakoras (peppers) were a nice touch, too, thanks for mixing up the offerings. (Update May 19)(**along with the more formal Maharaja, and the too well hidden shalimar Latham. Ill be glad to hear Im wrong and missed something, let me know)
Looks like management changed. No one to welcome customer. Ordered chicken roast but it really looks like tandoori mixed with sauce and flush smell. changed the order to chicken 65, again disappointed; its really wet. ordered naan and briyani, even after 45 minutes didnt receive anything. Lost my patience.
This is one of those places that makes you want to write a review. They got wide variety of dishes in the daily buffet that no other indian restaurants are offering. Their specials are chicken tikka masala, Hyderabadi chicken dum biryani, and the deserts. Especially weekend buffets are special. We got an amazing food with indian spices! Good value for money. Highly recommended!
When I was a child every occasion that warranted dining out ended up at the Sitar on Central Avenue (RIP), which at the time was the sole purveyor of Indian cuisine in the Capitol Region. Over the years the Albany has seen the a proliferation of eateries offering sub-continental lunch buffets and subtle variations of the Indo-Pakinstani fare. Many have fallen by the wayside after a decline in quality, or perhaps as foodies seek out the next culinary trend bandwagon? But, still I seek out those uncharted Indian restaurants that my creature of habit mother would not be willing to investigate without at least three references. Spicy Mint is not an empty promise, their well-seasoned and seductive food will induce a flush. Your meal begins with a basket of pappadum, lentil flour with cumin seeds rolled into a wafer and fried to a blistered crisp and partnered with the spicy mint and cilantro chutney and the earthy tamarind paste that is a common condiment in most Indian restaurants. I came looking to try dosas, a pancake made from a batter of rice or lentil flour served with raita and often stuffed with other ingredients, I ordered the Mysore Masala dosa which was filled with the same delicious golden curried potatoes from vegetable samosas. I was generous enough to be a meal and served with a side of soup. I also ordered the chicken tikka saag, inspired by nostalgia for the Sitar of yore. All indian restaurants offer a variation of chicken tikka palak/saag, the Sitar used to use tandoori chicken thighs in their chicken tikka palak and chicken tikka masala, so it created a subtle smokey flavor and had the intense red color produced by food dye, no other Indian restaurant has ever done that (in Upstate New York or Seattle). And while Spicy Mint has not done that either, their chicken tikka saag was spicy and excellent. Their service is friendly, charming, and genuinely helpful, soliciting feedback and keeping my desperately needed water glass filled. He mentioned that Thursday evenings are dosa nights, where 25 different varieties of dosa are available! I will definitely be back!
Great little hidden gem! From the outside this restaurant may be something you drive by, but never try. Stop in!We go every week and are never disappointed. Each night that we are there, people are ALWAYS picking up trays of food to bring home.I usually have the Lamb Boti Kebab, and my wife gets the Chicken Tikka. Both are delicious. The naan is great. For appetizers, try the Chicken 65 or Chili Chicken. Both have some spice, but are delicious.
One of the best Indian food in the Troy-Albany region! They also have a special Dosa night(lots of varieties of Dosas) on Thursdays and a special Chaat (lots of variety of Indian street food and Indo-Chinese food) night on Tuesdays which are absolute fun and also a delight for the taste buds 😀 Their vegetable manchurian is really great. Also, I like all of their non-vegeterian curries.
BEWARE!!!! Spicy Mint is disgusting, if I could put zero stars I would. I came in there, they had no labels for the food so I had no idea what I was eating at the buffet, oh and lets not forget $15 for a lunch buffet?! thats bs!! I would have just went to shalimar for a better meal for less. they are extremely rude as well. food had no flavor, why they hell do they think its ok to call themselves spicy mint when they have zero spice. get it right people !! save yourselves the trip and the money and just steer clear of this place. also it just tastes like frozen Indian food, yuckkkk!!!!
If you been here for lunch buffet and had a good memory then savor that moment and dont ruin it by coming here for dinner buffet which is on Tuesday and Thursday.Food was not fresh, pratah was stiff burger buns were treated as poan. Not a single item was fresh, guy at the Bhail poori stand making pani poori dipped his entire hand into the sause to fill Puri with pani. They had pani pori stand with live commercial stove in the dining area...not sure if this is permitted in NY State....but it sure look dangerous.
I was there yesterday and I ordered kadhaai paneer and malaai kofta. Both were worst. Service was rude and bad. There was a guy who gave me food didn’t great me nothing. I was like really? Never going back there to waste my money. This people needs to know how to treat customer and serving a good food. Worst Indian restaurant ever!!!!
I hate this place because there is a lady from the management with bad attitude and no respect to customer, when you visit with family and friends or 2 to 3 people. But she shows very friendly behavior when you visit with 10 people. All she cares about only big orders.
Dont go there after 8 pm, Sunday, if you want to go there for south indian food. they were unable to serve South Indian food, they told me come early ( i was there around 8 ). Whatever i ordered, food taste wss not good at all, will go there next time if no other option.
Indian cuisine....it was only buffet on Sunday due to Mothers day....North Indian food was good, however South Indian dishes were not up to the mark...Desserts can be improved.....salads were & appetizers were fine.....overall the buffet seemed overpriced.....nevertheless people had to wait to be seated...seems quite popular amongst the local residents..
My friend and I usually come here during lunch and I must say the staff are very welcoming to the young man and lady are always so concern about how we are doing and will assist in any way possible very friendly and remember my me every timeThey greet as if we are friends for a long time and that is a good thing coming into a restaurant with new facesNot to mention the food which is totally amazing always fresh and very flavorfulThe tandoori chicken and mix with beautiful lemon decor and cilantroHighly recommended to have lunch here
Execelent food and fabulous service by staff specially by the restaurant manager Ranjit always up to the mark and quick to respond , food is very good only little more spice would make a difference otherwise it’s all authentic, the buffet has large spreads and many options to choices
I always feel spicy mint is the place where I can get awesome biryani, but after I received my togo order, it has biryani rice with barbecued chicken leg peices, I dont know if this is how you make chicken biryani but I hate barbecue flavor personally so I was unable to enjoy food , beside chicken peices rice was good, at the end I felt that I ate flavored rice with barbecued chicken leg peices which is why I give one star.

2021-10-12Had been here for a lunch buffet. They gave us plastic gloves to serve food, cleanliness was maintained. The layout was good. Lots of varieties. It began with papdi, samosa Chaat, chicken Manchurian and fried rice, chicken biryani, several varieties of kebabs, fish vindaloo, chicken Tikka masala, prawns fry, onion bhajiya, idli medu vada sambar, bhindi masala, chana masala, veg biryani etc. The dessert station had 6-7 varieties of sweets including but not limited to gulab jamun, rasgulla, pineapple mousse etc. Naan was served on the table.Chicken Manchurian was good, chicken Tikka masala a little too sweet. While the food tasted good, all the fried items were cold and had become soggy. Sambar had no salt. Fried rice was not authentic. Chaat items were terribly cold as if they were taken right out of the fridge. Idli vada again cold. Chicken kebabs were cold hence a little dry in taste. For desserts, gulab jamun was good whereas rasgulla was super dry and hard. They had a mint, cinnamon cooler which was just watery, no taste.Overall experience was good. They could improve a bit by keeping the food hot/warm.

2022-03-30New management since January 2022 is doing it right. The Fish Curry was delicious: well spiced, fragrant served with Jeera Rice. The chef/owner Mijan has skills to delight the palate. Looking forward to many return visits. The aroma prevented me from taking pics until I finished. Mohan is a wonderful waiter, courteous and very helpful in selecting dishes.

2022-06-24Takeout order:Garlic Naan: 5/5Tandoori Pomfret: 4/5 I can’t feel the masala spicyness.Chicken Lollipop: 0.00001/5 I can’t eat them they’re stones. Uneducated chef who prepared them using Basin flour turned into stones when I reach home. Chef have to refer some YouTube videos what’s the color and texture of the chicken lollipops. If he doesn’t know how to cook them you guys have to remove the item from Menu.Pomfret fish is very small but why they’re charging it $18 I don’t know.

2021-09-21I would say I am well versed in Indian food, cook it at home, eaten it my entire life, have visited India - with all of that said here is my frank review of this establishment.1. The menus are broad which is great2. The food is less than buffet level food at best2a. When you pay for food in the non buffet dining hours, there is an expectation the quality increases as do the prices.3. When water is placed on the table, and it is bottled water, and the waiter and host DO NOT tell you they will charge you for it - I have a problem.4. We ordered Pani Puri, didnt match the images on the website. Was bland and no depth of flavor. Also didnt have sufficient toppings which is typical when you order this dish.5. We ordered Samosa Chaat, a fave we order in every city we go to - struggled to find the Samosa and had insufficient toppings.6. We ordered Gobi Manchurian, the sauce was overly sweet and the dish was soggy - reminiscent of precooked and microwaved style meals.7. The mint chutney tasted watered down and bland. Like it was from a bottle and then watered down again.Highlights were the waiter, who was pleasant. Although he wasnt the guy who ran the nightclub style music (poor choice of music for a dining establishment btw)Waiter wore a mask. The Chai was good ALTHOUGH I had asked for it to NOT have any sugar. It was presweetened. Slap! There has to be better Indian Cuisine in Albany - surely!Do yourself a favor and try some other great joints in town. Indian or otherwise.I know the good people of Albany cant see this as the standard for Indian Cuisine.ALSO - the checker took the water off after he tried to argue with me about COVID and the need to give bottled water. This wasnt my issue, being told upon giving me the water is when I want to be told there is an associated cost. And to boot, he charged me for 4 bottles when we only had 2.

2021-08-20After hearing good comments about this place, my friend and I gave this place a try. Food was tasty, but staff seemed a bit confused. And there was a couple items that made us question their cleanliness. Including attached photo of a bug in our water...

2021-08-09The food was okay and the Groupon made it worth it in the end. If it werent for the Groupon I wouldnt have come to try this spot because the menu items are overpriced. They also dont have any beef items on the menu (only Indian restaurant Ive seen that doesnt). My friend witnessed some disturbing behavior with the kitchen employee who wore same gloves in the bathroom, didnt wash hands, and never put new gloves on before handling the food again. The female staff waitress was not attentive. The male waitor was more concerned with cleaning the buffet area instead of checking in on the guests or taking away finished plates from table. The water is served in water bottles and no such thing as free refill here. First time being in a restaurant where you are charged for water. Overall it was a disappointing experience.UPDATE:Went there during the lunch buffet and the yellow rice was spoiled (smelled rotten), the dishes lacked flavor, the tandoori chicken was extremely dry, the remaining chicken dishes lacked sufficient spices. Overall horrible experience for both dine in and buffet. Would not recommend this spot to anyone!

2022-04-30Dont let the non-descript shopping plaza and underwhelming decor fool you...the food is wonderful. Nuanced, rich flavors. Type of food you will crave. Highly recommend for dine-in or take out. When you are looking for something other than fast food or another chain restaurant check out Spicy Mint. You will not be disappointed.

2021-10-09Ordered vegetable biryani but only one vegetable ( green peas) and it’s looks very dry. Missing 90 percent vegetables and no Gravy(Saalan). I wouldn’t order any food from this place never again.
