St. Georges Episcopal Church in other cities:
Ive been going to Saint Georges for about 4 years. Its a beautiful church, very welcoming congregation, and lots of space for social distancing. The music is wonderful. They have lots of programming during the week (prayer group, bible study, small groups, book club, and more), currently via Zoom.
When we first visited more than four years ago, it was immediately apparent the care this church puts into everything they do—from the beautiful music to the preaching, and all the way down to the way parishioners care for each other. It has been a place of rest and inspiration ever since, especially during the pandemic this past year.
St. Georges Church hosts some of the finest preaching you will hear in NYC. The clergy consistently apply the Bible to lifes situations with close attention to the central message of the Good News of Christ crucified and risen. Music director, Kamel Boutros, fills each Service with both classic and original compositions of sacred music, historic and contemporary hymnody, always presented with clarity and conviction. Look no further and come to St. Gs on Stuyvesant Square Sundays at 11:00am.
A beautiful, historic church in a beautiful location. They have done a fantastic job during the pandemic-- both making in-person safe when possible, as well as streaming online. A wonderful community in which the Gospel is preached as truly good news. If youre looking for an Episcopal Church that puts Grace at the center of everything, this is the place for you.
I’ve been a member of St. George’s for almost two years, and it’s the only church where I’ve felt truly at home. In addition to beautiful services and thought-provoking and Scripture-based sermons, St. Georges offers a warm and safe community (a must in New York City!) to both members and first-time visitors and a variety of ways for everyone, regardless of age or interests, to become involved. Members are kind and welcoming, and the clergy is reliable and personable, and both work to ensure new members feel included. I instantly felt a part of a community when I began attending almost two years ago, and I would recommend St. George’s to anyone looking for a church to call home.
I have been attending Calvary-St.Georges since September 2020. St. Georges is a beautiful church with the word of God that fills it every Sunday. The sermons push your faith deeper and wider and how much we need this throughout the pandemic. Add to it great clergy and music, this is a spiritual home.
Great church. Solid, dynamic and theologically sound sermons each and every Sunday. The clergy takes their faith seriously, but that comes with a healthy dose of self aware humor. Law Gospel, Lutheran style theology at its finest. Warm, and welcoming congregation too.
I have been a member at St Georges church for six years. My kids were baptized here and the community has become incredibly important to our family. I am always impressed by the quality of the sermons, the music and community outreach. Attending church at St Gs is always the highlight of my week.
Amazing in-person service EVERY Sunday. Great preaching, fantastic music, joyful community of people from all over the city. Tremendous outreach for kids, families, and folks of all generations. Free reservations for in-person services on the website. SAFELY worship with us on Sunday with JOY! In-person for Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday. We gather socially distanced on the sidewalk after the service! Join us!
Worth checking out, either online or in person. I came to visit years ago and the parish has only become better. Preaching and music are truly world class. There is no such thing as a typical church member here, there is no defining demographic. People come here mostly because they find what they want from a church in the first place.
The parish of Calvary-St. George’s has been an incredible source of comfort and support throughout all of 2020. My family and I were part of Calvary when we lived in NYC a few years ago, and for the past year we have been so grateful to attend the livestream services and zoom bible studies remotely. The clergy preach God’s love, grace, and forgiveness through Jesus Christ.
As regarding the Common Table (soup kitchen downstairs on Thursday afternoons from 12 noon to 1 pm) a very lovely operation presided over by caring volunteers. Seating is at tables arranged in long aisles. Two lines form before noon and after a short inspirational prayer, hot, home-made food and a fresh, tossed salad are served from one table while piping hot soup is served from another. Tea, coffee, lemonade and water are available and I believe it safe to say the variety of desserts offered -- including long lines of cakes, muffins, cookies, pies and occasionally ice cream -- is greater here than at any of the scores of similar venues in the entire city of New York. First-rate operation; satisfying food served in generously portioned sizes; a cozy atmosphere inside a below-ground vault. Beautiful.

2022-09-13St. Georges Episcopal Church is a beautiful church with stained glass windows and a wonderful place to sit and meditate. Last week it was the holding area for a film I had the privilege to be a part of.We filmed across the street in the park and it was a beautiful two days. Loved the stained glass windows

2021-03-23Because of the pandemic, I would have thought that church life and upkeeping the faith would be extra challenging. But the parish of Calvary St. Georges seemingly seamlessly moved their operations virtually, making their service accessible to myself and countless others. Theyve grown a lot since Ive joined only a year ago, but theyre not a church that would allow that to get to their ego, or change their fundamental message. Which is to get the gospel right, before getting the gospel out.Ive heard many sermons from many places over my life, but the message I get here is unique, and feels a blessing to hear. It carries with me through the week, it cant be helped -- its hard not to crave coming back. The people who go there and also those who run the parish are some of the most naturally warm and welcoming types of people Ive ever met. Theres no doubt God works through this parish. I feel a real happiness to be here, and grateful to have found this place.Bonus, the music alone is worth absorbing and losing yourself in.

2021-03-16Beautiful historic church on Stuyvesant Square Park and close to Union Square. My family worships here in person every Sunday. Out of great love for people, the church is very careful to observe a restricted number of attendees, social distancing, contact tracing, and mask wearing. If you dont feel comfortable meeting in person, you can always join online at calvarystgeorges.org. The liturgy will lift your gaze heavenward and the sermon will help you see Jesus. Hope to see you Sunday!

2021-03-17I’ve been attending St. George’s for nearly 14 years, and can honestly say that I hope to attend for the next 14 years. Having been raised in a more conservative tradition (read: do-it-yourself Christianity), St. George’s was the first church I ever attended where the Gospel message I was hearing really felt like “good news.” Since then, St.G’s became my home, and I feel more a part of the community than ever, as the people there attend not because of shared politics, class, or interests, but because of a shared view that we’re all sinners saved by grace.

2021-03-27Id heard good things about this church from several friends over the years, but never got the chance to visit. One rainy February, a meeting I had downtown wrapped up early, so I stopped by the Ash Wednesday service. I went to services the next Sunday, and have continued attending whenever Ive been able ever since. The church has great music and preaching and is a wonderful, welcoming community. The welcome here doesnt come with an asterisk, either. Even if you can only attend the occasional weekly service (which was my situation when I started going), the clergy will still go out of their way to make you feel like this is your home. Recently, my wife and I relocated to a new city right before the pandemic started raging. The churchs quick pivot to virtual programming was a lifeline to us during this horrible year, when we felt especially stranded.

2021-03-16This church is amazing and so beautiful! Theyve done really well during the pandemic to make sure everyone is socially-distanced and able to worship safely. Super warm and welcoming community with priests who preach the Gospel. 10/10 would recommend!

2021-03-23The meaning of the Gospel as truly Good News is made crystal clear each Sunday in this wonderful parish. All of the clergy are superb preacher-scholars who penetrate the Biblical text to reveal its truths, making it relevant and accessible. The glorious Anglican liturgy is done with simplicity, beauty and dignity, without affectation. The incomparable director of music assembles top-notch musicians to render an eclectic range of music which ever fails to illuminate and enhance the themes of the message of each service. Parishioners here are a diverse group of warm, loving people seeking God. I am so grateful to have found this place.

2021-03-25We just went to visit in 2003 and never looked back. The clergy, the music, and the beautiful historic church drew us in but the message made us stay. It’s rare, unfortunately, to find a church that feels like a “come as you are party” but this is just such a place. We feel comfortable bringing anyone knowing that all are welcome.
