It’s wasn’t a great experience at all I entered the supervisor just had a disrespectful mouth I’m 17 years old and the fact that you know i hooper wanna hoop she just wouldn’t let me sign up u thought that it was because I was 17 and not 18 but when a young male enter she says this the last one and I felt disrespected because I wanna hoop just like he do
Of all of the recreational parks around Brooklyn, this is my second favorite place to go. They have a 400-meter two lane track and field, they have a soccer field, wall tennis as well as a baseball field. It has two water fountains throughout the park, it’s wheelchair accessible and there is a lot of parking spaces. The park is usually super packed on week days around 4PM and 5PM since most of the middle schools practice around that time.
For anyone who is interested in the pool, I would recommend talking to the staff first and get a copy of the pool schedule from the security/front desk. One staff member told me that information on the NYC Park website is not managed by the recreation center which means information you found online may be incorrect. Furthermore, the rule (for the pool) is probably more complicated than what you wouldve thought. I just learnt that adult lap sessions have lanes for beginners as well and family swim is only for parents and kids (other pools Ive gone to allow everyone to access the pool during family sessions). Unfortunately, these are not well explained on their webpage. So dont assume (like what I did). Go/call and ask for the schedule and for clarification so that you dont waste your time.
This was a great place until it closed for almost a year. Despite having paid for a year long membership, they refuse to give a refund regardless of the fact that the entire facility has being closed. This seems like a class action waiting to happen as they cannot reasonably expect the public to travel multiple neighborhoods over as a solution. If you pay for goods or services, they should be delivered or else you should be entitled to a refund. I was told that the only person that can discuss it is Asst Commissioner Emily Chase - Emily.chase at parks.nyc.gov -- So far crickets tho and this NYC Parks Dept gives you the run around for months.
So I joined this place because it was conveniently close and the tour I was given was ok. What they failed to tell me however was that this place was scheduled for renovations and would be CLOSED for about 6 months!!! I paid for a years membership!! When I inquired about a refund, I was told they didnt do that. I was handed a listing of other centers I could attend, none of which were convenient/accessible to me!! I threw away my money!!! I am very disappointed, I am a hard working single mom that is looking to keep myself and child active, this was a total waste of hard earned money!
The only thing I would add is more swimming classes during the week instead of just Saturday, other than that everything else is great they have great instructors who work with you (Ronnie), and they just need to refill the sanitary wipes and the place would be perfect.
I go here for the pool. Front desk attendants are typically not friendly (Ive only met one that was). The locker room is OK (not super clean but not disgusting). The pool is long but not wide. The pool is split into 3 lanes. Typically emptier at night. Crowded in the morning and lifeguard allows people to just stand around in lanes and one lane is completely occupied by people standing around. Clean pool though.
-staff: not friendly, sarcastic. I brought my daughter to the child swim on Saturday, and the receptionist just kept staring at her. Shes like, youre letting HER get into the pool by herself? My daughter is 5, but shes a big 5. Number 1: whats it to you if I bring her into the pool or not? all she have to worry about it if her membership card is working or not. Number 2: staff were talking to each other while a line of people were waiting. They are so unprofessional, no work ethic at all.Area: smelly, old equipment. Pool area needs renovation ASAP. Lockers are so old, some of them dont even close. Shower curtains are falling off, theres no soap by the sink, no toilet tissues, and when you inform the staff, they have an attitude. This place needs new staff, new equipments, more programs for kids and adults.
Great place, great people. I gave it 4.5 stars because its a 45 minute to an hours journey for me to get here. Its free for NYC kids under 18 and only 25 bucks for people ages 18-24(maybe 25, cant recall). They have a pool, weight room, cardio room, men and women locker rooms, a computer room, a Bball gym, and an open park surrounding the building. This place has been my staple since I was a teen, and still is.
St Johns is my go to training center in the area. Granted I am a pretty stingy bastard but that doesnt mean the value here isnt great. Hearing what my other friends are getting from their gym memberships at the prices they pay makes me shudder. If you want to swim in a lane that isnt completely crowded by sure to get there at the beginning of the designated times. Tuesday and Thursday nights are single sex nights... That said, nothing like watching a hairy butterball move sloppily down the lanes on a Thursday night, you know what Im saying.

2022-04-18I left my home at 10:30ish am and reach there sometime after 11am. I got to work out in peace and even got someone to help me devise a routine so I can gradually lose the belly fat. The weight room and cardio room is fine for working out. Maybe going there mid morning would be your best bet on beating out the crowds.

2022-04-02Went to apply for skaterobics, turns out that me and my friends were to young. Is it hard for them to actually give teens something fun to do thats aerobic? All I wanted to do was skate, but if course its only for adults only.🤬

2021-12-04Registration for new members closes at 2pm on weekends and the pool is closed on Sundays. I didn’t see this anywhere on the website. The staff informed my literally yelling at me after I politely asked to register. At least the security guard was nice and gave me a paper with the pool schedule. Just a heads up, if you’re looking for adult lap swim there’s not a lot of open hours each week.

2022-01-01The park is huge, which is a plus. Multiple 1 wall handball 🔵👋🏽 courts and they also have nice basketball 🏀 courts as well. Typically frequent there summer nights to play night ball.

2022-06-10Under 23 its $25 a year to 🏊 swim! Im excited!Update: pool is freezing!! But its near our house and pretty cheap. Make sure to bring a bathing cap.Hours for family swim are kind of limited and the locker room isnt sparkling clean but this is a classic Brooklyn vibe - the DMV of swimming pools
