Amazing neo-gothic architecture with beautiful and mesmerizing glass paintings of various events and saints, multiple effigies and sections dedicated to various saints and information about them. They also sell numerous souvenirs such as medals ($4 each), rosaries, candles and other collectibles. A few items are sold inside the church itself, while most are sold in the gift shop close by. It is also the place of New Yorks archbishop. There is a small area in the front most end where it is easier to pray as visitors are not allowed to come in and talk, take photos/videos there. In the main hall it may be tough to pray with all the visitors/tourists walking around and talking.
What a beautiful site! Near Rockefeller Center on 5th Avenue and it is such a beautiful church. Coming around the corner and there it is in all its glory. I love visiting this site every time I’m in New York City. Although this area has changed over the years, it is still gorgeous.
Its one thing to view this place online, its either thing to experience it in person.Youll want to check this place out just for the environment experience and cool detailed art of the architecture. But beware,You can fall out of the cool atmosphere real quick here especially when you see the obvious cash grabs machines.Nothing wrong with donating to keeping your favorite church running. But it felt very unnecessary to have credit card plug in stands throughout the walk inside with non adjustable prices to donate if you choose to do so.
Amazing architecture makes me think of my Europe adventures. I was lucky to be able to get a deal on a hotel down the street from the cathedral. As I went to it there was a mast that just got finished and the father was out the the door greeting everyone. Nice little gift shop inside but once you walk in its even more spectacular. The windows and arches and the getting ready for another mast and people watching is awesome. A welcoming place for anyone of any culture. Youre also allowed to take pictures inside. Definitely worth the visit if youre interested in architecture, arts ,history and more.
One of the Prompt, Ancient, Great and Symbol of New York City.I would like to recommend that if you have trip to New York, you must visit this place. The architecture is amazing and inside have Beautiful Statues, Clean and Huge spaces. Especially, this Peaceful place is you sure to get pleasant feeling from your heart.
I highly recommend visiting this beautiful Cathedral. It is free and a must see in the middle of Manhattan. They have plenty of security inside, as well as anti-terrorist security. They play music that sounds just Heavenly. It is made of wall to wall marble and brass is just spectacular. There is so much to see once inside, and you are free to move about visiting the various stations throughout the Cathedral. They have a set of doors on the right side that are huge and ancient. They have a lower level but we did not access that area, although it is visible from behind the main altar.Of all the places I visited while a tourist in NYC last weekend, this was the most memorable and magnifient and beautiful! They do have a souvenior coin machine inside and I highly recommend you purchase one ($4.00).
So so so beautiful! We stopped in just to look around and ended up staying for Tuesday afternoon mass. The priest was really good and relatable and even a little funny! And they were setting up their manger scene for Advent so it was cool to see - almost like a behind the scenes thing.Definitely worth going to - wed love to come back for a major holiday just to see what its like!
My first time here and this church is beautiful inside, its big from outside and inside. Make short to take a mask or alse they dont let you in. Walk all around the church, because is beautiful. The church also was playing catolic music, I felt like I was in a movie. I recommend you to go visit it.
Visited for the first time during the Christmas week and was blown away by the majesty and splendor of it all. Standing so high and vast, the cathedral makes you want to stay for hours there in the presence of God. Was a little crowded at 6 pm on a weekday when visited.
One of New Yorks most beautiful jewels! The City has amazing icons and it is well known all over the world as the City that never sleeps because of its 24 hours things to do.However, if you are one of those crazy people like me, who enjoy seeing architectural designs of all kinds, this Cathedral must be included in your itinerary.Saint Patrick Cathedral was built among several taller buildings, although it is not as tall as the structures that surround it, its majestic structure captures the eyes of tourists right away. Take some time to walk inside. It is simply gorgeous, and if you are lucky enough you might have the opportunity to listen to the beautiful organ music, it is just breathtaking.
This is a great place to visit while you are in New York city. Its right on fifth Avenue and very close to Times Square.I did a walking tour starting in Times Square, walked along 7th Avenue towards Central park, walked parallel to the park, and made a right turn into the fifth. This monumental building stands amongst the different famous iconic shops... but this great architectural monument beats everything else. There are many photos to be taken from outside. Its free to visit, we need to respect the rules.Inside is also very beautiful and peaceful. You can take pictures inside. Its a great experience to sit and meditate in the serene environment. All in all, a must visit place.
We went to St. Patrick’s Cathedral before the noon mass. We purchased the audio tour for each of us and found it to be extremely informative. There were so many details pointed out inside this beautiful church that we never would’ve known about otherwise. It is such a lovely historical landmark.
This church is absolutely beautiful. The architecture, the decorations, the statues, everything is just eye-catching. I love that they have about 7 masses Monday to Friday, 8 on Sundays, and 3 on Saturday (although the 2 afternoon ones count as Sunday mass). They offer tours, have bathrooms, a gift shop, an area with candles. There is also a variety of confession times Monday to Saturday (none on Sunday). When I attended I truly felt grateful, and had no problem following along or listening, because their microphones and loud speakers are up to date. This place is an absolute tourist trap though, but I cant complain. They are quite acceptable of cell phones, as you can take photos or videos, and with a QR reader you can find the history of the church, make a donation, or download the worship booklet for the mass; all you have to do is make sure to keep phones on silent and try not to disturb during the mass.In the end, I am sure God doesnt mind having people enter His house, whatever the purpose, because if at first it is only to look, sometimes they also stay to listen.
One of the most beautiful cathedrals in the world! The cathedral was build in 1878, has a Holy sacrament room that is very quite and you can have your moment of meditation! And I didn’t know until the security talk to me in the moment I was there ( he was very gentle) but you CANT TAKE PICTURES of the holy sacrament!
Beautiful, historic cathedral in the heart of Manhattan. Free to explore with optional guided tours (for a charge, I think). It’s just a lovely place to walk around and appreciate. The stained glass windows and the sculptures are breathtaking. Makes you feel otherworldly.
Its the most beautiful cathedral i have ever visited, so hug. What i loved the most about its is the presence of several saints from around the world, you get to know each one of them well, and i was very excited to see a corner for St. Sharbel a saint from my country Lebanon.
The St. Patrick’s Cathedral is a gorgeous catholic cathedral located in Midtown Manhattan of New York City and of the most visited churches in the world. In November of 2021, I brought myself and my wife for a visit of this stunning historic attraction.Designed by architect, James Renwich Jr, and completely built in 1879, the St. Patrick’s Cathedralis considered the largest Gothic Revival cathedral in North America, and serves as the principal seat of the Archbishop Of New York. What my wife and I most admired about the cathedral were it’s breathtaking high altar, beautifully designedstained glass windows, it’s impressive giant size bronze doors and well-crafted sculptures, most notably, the Pieta, a statue of Mary holding Jesus Christ’s lifeless body after his removal from the cross.During our self guided tour of the cathedral, my wife and I learned that it has served as the final resting place of highly influential clergyman and prominent humanitarians such as the venerable Pierre Touissaint. The cathedral also has been featured in many films, television shows and hosted many wedding ceremonies and eulogies of well-known celebrities. The St. Patrick’s Cathedral is definitely one of the crown jewels of New York City and my wife and I definitely recommend a visit to this world renowned destination.
Stunning and spectacular place of sanctuary. Incredible that something so special is right in the midst of midtown Manhattan. I have been going here for mass and lighting of candles for over 2 decades and each visit is still special and amazing. Masses and homilies are incredible. The priests and staff are extraordinary!!!
St. Patricks Cathedral, the largest gothic Roman Catholic cathedral in the nation, is steeped in history and generously supported by some of the most noteworthy families - Bouviers, Kennedys, Delmonicos, etc. My niece and I took the behind the scene tour, which featured the Sacristy, the Bishops Chapel, the Crypts, the Altar and Randall Satins passion for his Church. Hard to find the behind the scene tour, but well worth an insiders peak and to have a guide who will answer questions.
This is amazing, so beautiful church like a castle, it has the main entrance and another one on the side of the church, doesn’t not have parking lot. Wearing a mask is required and there are security at the entrance. There is a small store inside, lots of tourist in and out throughout the whole day.
In midtown New York City, theres St Patricks Cathedral. It is very beautiful and elegant. You are welcomed to come in and attend Mass, pray, listen, light a candle for a loved one or just look around. The stained glass is intricate and colorful, the ceiling is awesome and grand. I love visiting here when I can. Its located on 5th between 50th and 51st. They have a small gift shop inside.
A true beauty in the heart of Manhattan. If you wish to spend an hour or two and around $10 (candle donation times 5 candles) then St Patricks is an amazing choice. Pray, take pictures, relax, warm up. St. Patricks is easily the #1 place I recommend people see in this area of Manhattan. Enjoyment is everywhere. The beauty, calmness and serenity that is experienced here is unmatched. Stop by, visit, donate a few dollars ($2 for a candle). If you can, donate a few more dollars, because what St. Patricks offers and succeeds in doing so is provide a truly special and unique experience.
Its truly beautiful in here. The Gothic architecture is gorgeous. Its a peaceful oasis in the middle of midtowns cramped skyscrapers. But still, its a tourist attraction, so it has a different vibe than smaller and less popular churches. A similar vibe like going to Notre Dame in Paris. Security guards, a gift shop, and those token machines greet you when you enter the cathedral. I wont come back for spirituality, but I certainly will for history and beauty.
Gorgeous cathedral that is the seat of the archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York. From the architecture to the history this is a MUST VISIT on your tour of NY (not just NYC)! You can light a candle and stop and say prayers... Or just take pictures. Obviously be respectful. The level of accessibility of something like this... Including no cost to visit... Is astounding!!!
As a native New Yorker I find this one of the most beautiful cathedrals in the world. It is not dark, dreary, or depressing as other cathedrals I have been to. I am not Catholic but I love the holiness and inspiration I fee from this cathedral. I believe in the piousness of Mary and Jesus. This cathedral is a message to mankind of Marys and Jesus devotion to God.Im Muslim and many times on my lunch break I have sat down inside to meditate and pray. It is so soothing.
Truth telling homily, without the sugar coating. Keeping it real. Sacred ground. We were lucky to visit just a few days after St. Patricks Day, so the church was still dressed up with banners, moss covered rocks and beautiful green flowers. It was a privilege to be near a relic of the great saint. St. Patrick, pray for us!
We went to honor our friend whos family member was a NYC police officer. He was shot and paralyzed in the line of duty and remained this way for the rest of his life. He went on to forgive the kid who shot him in what I suppose might just be the ultimate act of someone who understood his new higher calling. Turning a bad situation into something we can all learn from does not happen easily. Prospective is always an eye opener and perhaps its an opportunity to understand lifes miricles of how to forgive gracefully. St Patrick Cathedral was a fitting place to be part of the 5th anniversary of Steven McDonalds passing. While I didnt know him, it was a priveledge to be part of a ceremony honoring a man who although paralyzed and wheel chair bound, found a way to stand incredibly tall.
Dedicated in 1192, the St. Patricks Cathedral has been restored many times and, like Christ Church, the other cathedral in Dublin, has been owned by the Church of Ireland since the Reformation. Jonathan Swift, a priest here from 1713 to 1745, is buried here next to his beloved stella Esther Johnson. The cathedrals neo-gothic façade was created in such a brilliant way in 1875, when the wealthy Dublin whiskey maker Henry Roe donated $37 million to save the cathedral. Living Stones, a permanent exhibition, tells the history of the cathedral and its relationship to the city. Near the western end of the dome, there is the medieval chapter house gate with a hole in it. In 1492, while two large Anglo-Irish families were fighting, the earl of Ormonde hid from the earl of Kildare and his followers in the chapter house. Kildare made a hole in the door and stuck his arm through it. Ormonde shook his hand and thus peace was made. This is how the phrase put your arm at risk entered English.
Beautiful place more if you like to take Picture. The truth is that I cannot make another comment about it other than to talk about the architecture, the building and nothing else since I only visit this lifar to take some photos. I think that beyond being Catholic or not it is interesting to visit this establishment for historical, cultural and artistic reasons.
Definitely a must visit when you are in New York city. The building is absolutely gorgeous and the architecture is marvelous. With the hustle and bustle that goes on around the city, this is also a quiet-ish place to sit down for a few minutes and calm down. Not sure if Id go there again but definitely recommend to someone who hasnt been there before.
Beautiful cathedral, open to the public. I had never been to New York before, so it was interesting to me to see the contrast of the fast paced hustle and bustle outside (with all the noises, lights, moving parts, etc) and the peace, calm, and quiet of this cathedral.A must see.
Celebrated 10:15 am mass on 6-26-2022. Everything was beautiful except the blonde female (dont know her name) eucharistic minister turned her head and started talking to a priest next to her WHILE offering me the communion!!! Very disrespectful. She clearly does not understand the holiness of what she is being asked to do. Shameful. Also not a fan of having a gift shop INSIDE the church. Didnt Jesus expel the money changers from the temple for doing that? Isnt this the same?
We went to a Saturday mass there, it was less than 30 minutes which was good for me because: toddler! Beautiful yet a little touristy. On my walk abouts I found St. Paul the Apostle on....well I cant remember the street but near Central Park....that church was stunning and definitely worth checking out if you like checking out churches.
The cathedral is wonderful and the priest conducting mass had a fabulous voice. The stained glass windows were stunning and the shrines impressive. The one security man near the front of the cathedral was very grumpy and said we could not go to the lady chapel as a private service had just started. We told him we would come back later. We returned 2 and a bit hours later and the securoty man at the back of the cathedral said we could go to the lady chapel and gave directions. At the top end we encountered the same grump who spun us the same story (clearly didnt remember us) and we challenged him about what he said earlier and he then reluctsntly let us go past whilst muttering and shaking his head. As we suspected there was nothing going on in the lady chapel and we were able to view it and take a photo of the pieta near its entrance
Wouldn’t come here again. Came to get mass for St Patrick’s Day, a practicing Catholic. Was told I need a ticket to come to an 8am mass. Only church close by that I could come too. Was also told this was only for Dignitaries. Shame on St Patrick’s cathedral at 5th. Gone so political and lost the way.
Beautiful, breathtaking and so amazing. I wish had time to take the walking tour that I saw a few people on with headphones? Also, I was able to light a candle for my husband who passed away in October. I am sorry I missed the December 19th City singing concert. But I was able to find a program in the pew. I took many beautiful snap shot. I loved the doves in gold at the top of the ceiling of the church, the stained glass windows and some of the other statues. The organ was amazing. It almost makes me think about being a donor to the church!
As a catholic I found the cathedral to be awesome, its huge beautiful simply a wonderful place to see sit pray, even if you are of other faiths it will inspire you in ways only you can say. There were lots of tourists walking around but everyone was organized and very orderly. We spent a short time but left very inspired
Having had the opportunity to visit this cathedral several times during the past few years throughout its restoration - it is incredible to see the wonderful work that has been done.A must see when visiting NYC, even if for a brief time and especially during holiday season.
Very nice Cathedral which is very well maintained. It always gives me goosebumps when entering this majestic place, especially when there is a mass.Size wise it’s not so big as the Cathedral in Koln but what I like about is that it’s so very clean and well maintained. If you are visiting it, it’s good to know it’s located opposite to Rockefeller centrum and around 3 min walking distance from Columbus square, it’s a nice area here. Please also donate $ 5 because the entrance is for free.
This is my third trip to New York, and the previous two trips, I ran out of time to pay a visit to St Patricks Cathedral. This time, Im glad I did. Words can not describe this magnificent building. It is awesome. The sheer size takes your breath away. The peace and tranquillity is unbelievable. The beautiful ornate stain glass windows are a sight to behold. They are a masterpiece in themselves. The architecture is phenomenal. The whole cathedral is breathtaking. It deserves to be seen inside, as well as a walk around the building outside. There are a constant stream of services, if you wish to partake. Security very helpful. You dont have to be a Catholic to appreciate the scale, beauty and splendour of this building. Definitely a place to visit when in New York. My only regret is that I didnt visit St Patricks Cathedral sooner.
Stunning cathedral in the heart of New York City always a great place to come and escape the hustle and bustle of the streets. Masses here are beautiful and the amount of detail that can be found from the different chapels to the exterior is gorgeous especially after the extensive renovation recently. A must see if traveling to NYC!
Upon my arrival I approached Security and asked if it was Okay to take pictures. I was absolutely surprised and pleased when I was told Yes!.It is free to visit and marble over this magnificent architectural feat. I highly recommend spending at least 30 minutes here if not more...You must walk around its splendid exterior.
On this visit was only able to view the outside off this magnificent structure. Amazing inside, but no pictures to offer on this visit due to a 1pm mass. Remember as a kid watching Ghostbusters and the Stay Puffed Marshmellow Man going after this landmark. Well he got what he deserved in the end!!
Situated in the middle of the city it is hard to miss the beauty and ornate architecture that adorns this historical church! We were blown away by every intricate detail that went into the design and building of this spiritual gems! It is almost too much for your eyes to take in when you first step in off the streets of the city. The voices from the choir singing in the background made it feel nothing short of magical
I always enjoy visiting this famous church when in the New York area. It has just been refreshed and much of the grime that collected over the years is removed and now you can see a cathedral that is bright white inside as it was supposed to be. There are many weddings in this classic setting and the Sunday service is very mush worth attending too. I was visiting one of my past students and took her to see this gem. She was really impressed and said that she would visit later when she had more time. It is located in the heart of New York and most natives when asked will tell you how to get there. When you visit New York do not miss visiting this important landmark that has been in the canter of many historic events since it was built.
The architecture is one of the most beautiful I’ve seen in my international travels because the church tells a very contrasting story of its interior and exterior. Inside is a sanctuary that will satisfy the most religious creative. Outside the church is living unique culture — on occasion, people parade and show the colors and zest of life!!! The photos I shared are taken during the Easter celebration 🎉
First off this is a beautiful cathedral. The architecture is very similar to what Ive seen in some of the cathedrals in Europe. Im not sure what their hours are be we went there on a Monday around dinner time. They were actually starting a mass when we entered but they still allowed visitors. They just asked that people remain quiet. We decided to stay for mass and it lasted less than 30 minutes. That is certainly good for people that are very busy or visitors.
Very beautiful church, the art work in here is just amazing. This is a very well visited church obviously sitting right next to Saks fifth avenue. Alot of seating for Mass. Christmas Mass was amazing and a great experience and would definitely return when in the area again. Definitely a must see while in New York City.
Beautiful church we even stayed for 6pm Mass. Went here with my cousin who lives in the west coast and we had a really spiritual time. The church was packed. There was one ursher who needs to change his career, he wasnt very nice. Dealing with the public is isnt for everyone. Some people are just better at a desk position somewhere in the back of the office working alone. But everyone other person we met inside the church was great. St. Patricks Cathedral is beyond words. Will definitely be back.
Cathedral’s rules forbids frigid males from wearing hats indoors yet with questionable fairness finds same fine for flaunting females. The interior and exterior of the steeple is breathtakingly beautiful with stunningly high quality scenes along the left and right perimeter walls of the Grand Cathedral. In the rear, there’s a polycarbonate glass enclosure room presumably built for soundproofing. As the most famous church in the United States it’s subjected to overcrowding and becomes too noisy to pray.

2022-06-04This iconic New York landmark receives approximately five million visitors a year, The striking architecture is wonderful. I didn’t had the opportunity to go inside because it was closed for a private event but the outside of the is a religious experience. The cathedral was built in the half of the 19th century to symbolize the rise of religious freedom and tolerance in America.

2022-04-04Whatever your religious or spiritual affiliations, St Patrick’s Cathedral is world class. The overwhelming space and grandeur combines with immense historical detail. Among the amazing sites New York has to offer, this spot should not be missed. Keep your flash off and take as many photos as you wish. By checking ahead on the website you can hit quiet times such as 9am to noon (often between scheduled services). By wearing soft shoes and moving quietly, you can pretend to be a ghost. Admission is free or by donation, but contributing is what keeps these places staffed and open. St Patrick’s Cathedral is an historical must see. I came away with a sense of the millions of people and moments that walked these floors before me, from the very famous to the every day person.

2022-06-01This is one of my favorite architectural places to visit in NYC. The church is across the street from Rockefeller Center and transports you back in time to the grandeurs of gothic style: large stained glass windows, pointed arches, rib vaults, flying buttresses, and ornate decoration. The pipe organ, stain glass and marble carvings rival the great churches of Europe! There is a suggested donation of $5 for entrance, there are daily services that take place and patrons are permitted to sit for the service. The atmosphere is peaceful and people are respectful and quiet. Photographs are permitted but I am uncertain if flash photos are allowed. This cathedral is a welcome refuge to escape the hustle of NYC and to enjoy a few moments of solitude. I am not Catholic, and I merely admire the architecture and atmosphere. I believe all are welcome to see the splendors that this location offers.

2021-12-29My family and I went to the church on Sunday and we’re able to explore the beautiful Cathedral. From the outside the towering spires rival the surrounding skyscrapers. Inside you’ll find intricate carvings. This has the feeling of a truly holy place

2022-06-08Largest cathedral in North America is worthy of your visit! Echoes those of Europe but in New York! Classic Revival style architecture with buttresses and beautiful stain glass windows! Must see the inside chapel areas and crypt. Location of several famous weddings and funerals in history.

2022-06-18An oasis of calm in the middle of packed streets.Whilst Im not religious, I absolutely can appreciate breath-taking architecture and sacred buildings. There is a very calm and quiet atmosphere here, with a main area with tourists meandering around accompanied by a no photos private prayer area. This can get quite busy at certain times, but the large tourist groups tend to move on quickly.

2022-05-11Beautiful, huge neo-Gothic cathedral. Amazing marble interiors. Beautiful interior, stained glass windows, altars and all the artworks inside. Its worth seeing, no matter if someone is interested in architecture or not.
