OK as a Google guide it is very hard to rate 4 stars and only a few I give 5 stars to.But when you call a live person answers the phone. They are very professional and polite, this service is becoming hard to find.Any information can make or break or rearrange your decision process.I feel the Philadelphia gave me their best.
The highly professional employees here make doing business an honest, hassle-free affair. They’re welcoming, patient and you know you’re in a good place the moment you enter. I had previously visited shops on 47th and the experience can be likened to a hellscape. I was shocked at how patronizing and dishonest they were. Conversely, I was thrilled with the experience I had here. I’ll definitely be back!
June 29, 2021, I drove from Delaware to New York City to sell my dads Uncirculated Carson City Silver Dollars to a highly recommended coin dealer in NYC on 47th Street. Just as a back up, I asked Mark Schimel (the NYC Store Manager) from Stacks Bowers Galleries on 470 Park Ave to also give me some comparison quotes for 5 of my 53 CC Silver Dollars.Stacks significantly beat the price from my recommended source on 47th street on all 5 coins.Dont waste you time on low quality (and low selling prices) on 47th street.Stacks was well air conditioned, offered cold water bottles, rest rooms and plenty of space for me to lay out my 53 CC coins.Mark even told me that almost half my coins would likely bring in premium prices if we want to auction with them. He explained everything twice (once for me and once for my dad).I had previously heard good things about Stacks, but when I visited them, they exceeded all my expectations.
I came in with a large collection of antique foreign coins, which I had exhaustively researched in advance. I had to wait a few minutes until a salesman was available, but they have comfy chairs and the security guard was very personable.Five stars for courteous service, excellent communication about how coins were priced, knowledgeable, and most impressive was that they confirmed my research. For my part, I came in prepared and patient.I suspect some negative reviews are due to patrons thinking they have million dollar collections and come to find they are not valuable.I watched the salesman check the coin values both online and in massive volumes of international coin listings. Remember, this is a retail establishment and they have to sell at a profit.End of story is that I sold enough coins to completely pay off a car loan!
Im amazed!I found some old currency during the course of a move. Stacks Bowers gave a fast appraisal and the sale was completed very quickly. We sought 4 different appraisals. Stacks came back with the highest appraisal by far!I would definitely recommend and use this service again!
My wife and I had a wide variety of coins inherited from a family member and were referred to Stacks by a friend. We couldnt have been more impressed with the staff and our overall experience. Mark took his time with us and did his due diligence to make sure he carefully went through the collection. He advised us on what he would purchase from us and what we should do with the items he couldnt. They are honest, polite, and caring when it comes to your items. Couldnt recommend more highly.
‘I had the extreme pleasure to deal with Stack’s & Bowers representative – James McCartney, his professionalism, his knowledge and the courtesy he extended was outstanding! We thank him for taking the time to answer our questions, reviewing our sizeable collection, calculating a value, making a good settlement offer and completing a resolution transaction for us.It was our pleasure to deal with him, his company, and staff.’ *****
I get it that its an auction house so the in-store inventory is going to be minimal at best, but as an out-of-towner who always wanted to visit the famous Stacks Bowers, I was a bit underwhelmed and disappointed. The worst part of my visit was the customer service. A gentleman there was a bit curt and pretentious. I get it: you live in NYC and have a Park Ave. location, but come on man, coins are a hobby for the masses. Lets not forget our roots. Take care.
Stacks Bowers is the ONLY place I would ever consider going for buying and/or selling gold or silver coins. I have had experience in doing both over the past 10 years. I have had to liquidate both my mothers and Uncles estates and was given a VERY fair purchase price both times which were several years apart. Later, I decided to invest in some gold for myself and was once again offered an excellent sale price. As someone unfamiliar with the world of numismatics and trade in precious metals, I felt comfortable in asking questions and even more assured that the information I received was correct. Ultimately, I decided to divest myself of my gold purchase, and once again was able to sell at a surprising good price. I cannot overstate how fair, knowledgeable and courteous Stacks Bowers is. Neophyte or experienced buyers and sellers are sure to be very satisfied by the experience of working with them. I will most definitely go to them in the future!
I wanted to share the positive experience I had at the New York City store of Stack’s Bowers.Recently, I had inherited some coins from a relative. I wanted some assistance with valuing the coins. A close friend recommended Stack’s Bowers to me. When I walked into the store, I was greeted by Jesse. He was very friendly and a wealth of information regarding the coins I had. Jesse spent an extensive amount of time with me, analyzing each coin. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the coins were a lot more valuable than I expected; I had been told they were of less value in another establishment I had visited. Jesse gave me a reassuring feeling while completing a task I was uncertain about. I also browsed through the cases and was enticed by some of the items I saw.I enjoyed my time at the New York City store. I would highly recommend this location to all my friends and relatives.Jyoti
I brought in some coins that were left over from my dads coin collection which had been sold (without my knowledge) a number of years ago.Mark was professional, friendly, easy to deal with and FAIR. I would not hesitate to do business with Stacks and Bowers again. A VERY good experience!!
Professional, compassionate, thoughtful, high integrity...Stacks Bowers is the epitome of what a coin gallery should be. We brought in some coins to sell and could not have been more impressed with the process. They are knowledge professionals, provided legitimate valuations (along with explanations where necessary) and their attention to customer service was first rate. Without question we will be returning here for any future purchases or sales of coins.
Stack’s Bowers is without question the finest, most trustworthy business I have dealt with in as long as I can remember. Andrew Bowers and his partners are consummate professionals and the most decent and honest people I have had the pleasure of doing some very high stakes business with. I do not say this lightly as it’s rare in today’s world to meet anyone in any business who is as scrupulously and unimpeachably honest, transparent in their practices, looks out for its customers and clients as is Stack’s Bowers. I recently sold them a sizable collection of highly valuable coins. It was the kind of transaction that could have been a nightmare scenario if one were not dealing with first class professionals, with the highest degree of knowledge in their field combined with absolute, scrupulous honesty. When you are entrusting a very valuable collection of gold coins you need to make a sizable leap of faith as the transaction is processed (from when the collection leaves your premises and arrives at theirs for evaluation and an offer to purchase). At no time did my heart skip a beat, my blood pressure rise and I did not worry for even a minute that somehow I was going to regret my trust in Mr. Bowers and his colleagues. What I especially appreciated and respected was the very clear and transparent way in which Mr. Bowers explained the entire process to me. At no time did he give me a sales pitch or try to sway my decision to use his company. I am definitely not a naive or foolish person so I know what I am talking about. After Stack’s Bowers received this incredibly valuable and huge quantity of coins, they actually told me I had undercounted the inventory I had sent to them and they saved me at least tens of thousands of dollars through their honesty. Mr. Bowers is such a decent man to deal with: they bore all the expense of shipping the product and told me all about the process. He told me if I didn’t like their offer, there would be no hard feelings and he would gladly ship my collection back to me. I was very pleased with their offer. In fact, I knew their offer was the fair and decent offer before even checking because that isthe way they conduct their business: as experts, as professionals, as honest business men and as gentlemen. I had, and have, total confidence in their expertise and trustworthiness; their well deserved, long standing reputation speaks for itself. This is not a company that employed any sort of “sales pitch.” It is impossible for me to imagine ever using any other company but Stacks Bowers.
From the Security Guard Tom to the Sales Associate Mark this place is Great! Very helpful. Super kind. I was looking for a gift for my 83 year old uncle who collects coins. They not only got me a cool gift but threw-in a coin that commerated the store when it was just Stacks before the merger. Tom also got me two coin auction books that I know my uncle will love going through.Great experience!
In 1964 at age 9 I made the trip to Stacks from Queens. My friend was carrying a basketball. We spent a lot time for a very small purchase and continued collecting for 25 years. I was a nervous little kid and Stacks treated me very well and it still is a vivid memory.
First visit and I was treated very well. Did not feel intimidated compared to other coin dealers in nyc. Got a great deal on a 1915 $10 Gold Indian coin. The selection is amazing. Will definitely be back....probably tomorrow....Well I came back next day to trade for a $20 gold coin and Mark gave me a great deal in exchange. I will make a visit every time I come to NYC. There selection of Roman gold coins is very impressive.
I was referred here a few years ago and have been a customer ever since! I have done business at Stacks now on several different occasions and have always had a terrific experience. Whether buying or selling, the staff here is always exceptionally knowledgeable and helpful. They have great display cases with some unique items available for purchase, as well as a gold ATM on the street! Highly recommended.
I took my late husbands coin collection to Stacks Bowers yesterday, knowing almost nothing about coins. Mark saw me right away. He could not have been more calming, helpful and thorough. The decor is refined and comfortable. Happily, I walked away with new information and a substantial check!
Wonderful experience! Very convenient and a wonderful knowledgable staff. I inherited some coins from my grandfather, but I had no idea what to do with them. The gentleman at the store was very helpful. I ended up consigning the coins to one of their auction and I was very happy with the results! I highly suggest Stacks Bowers!
I brought my 8 year old son who loves rare coins and has his own small collection to Stacks Bowers today and it was such a special experience for him! He was able to see some amazing coins and bills on display and show the collector behind the desk a coin he brought. At the end he gave him non collectible but such interesting coins to take home. My son was on cloud nine. What a great gem for parents to bring their budding coin collectors to!
I called the Stacks office to ask for help on a miscellaneous inherited collection of coins, proof sets and foreign coins. Andrew invited to come in at any time, which I did. Andrew was friendly , helpful and patiently explained some of the mysteries of coins and their values. He proposed a seemingly reasonable price for the collection, which I felt was very fair. Overall I was impressed. Anthony Smith
Ive been a customer of Stacks for about 45 years, when I was a kid collecting coins. As a grownup, over the past 10 years or so, Ive sold gold bullion coins to them a few times. Their cut is very fair and the process is secure and drama-free. I once made the error of selling bullion coins elsewhere, but that wont happen again. If you need to cash out or even if you want to look at some really cool coins, this is the place to go.
My husband and I had been gifted coins as investments. We had no place for them in our apartment and after doing research, found they were rather valuable. We went to Stackss and Bowers and spoke with Andrew who was incredibly knowledgable and trustworthy. The process to sell our coins and old currency was seamless and we would highly recommend this establishment.
If you have any interest in coins - or you have coins to sell, Stacks & Bowers is the only place to go in New York. The whole team is incredibly knowledgeable and from the moment you call or visit you know youre in the hands of experts. They are friendly, honest and will not push you to buy or sell anything until youre ready. Great place. Great people. Great coins! Thanks for all your help.
The store is very intimate and appealing to buyers like me! It is clean, quiet and the staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. I especially liked my interactions with Samantha. She was great and made my experience more pleasurable. I will definitely recommend a visit to Stacks!
I walked into the office a bit hesitant initially as I have heard of many people in the industry has not trustworthy. Upon entering I was greeted by Mr. Jassal, he advised me what would be best for my remaining coins as well as areas to avoid if I wanted to further my collection. I left there happy and with quite a bit more money than I anticipated to receive. I would advise you to see him as he was able to answer my question immediately, for ones he did not have he called me a couple of days later after his research.
I had a great experience at NY Stacks! I had a few questions and was a bit nervous, but their staff definitely made me feel at ease. Everyone was so helpful and knowledgeable. This is seriously a great place to visit if you are looking to buy, sell, trade or even to just go in and browse.
Had a Family Coin Collection dating back to two Grand Fathers who served in World War II and my Mother who continued collecting, having no idea what to do with the collection.I called Stacks Bowers Rare Coin Gallerie in New York with Mark taking my call. He took the time to go over my questions not knowing much, inviting me to their Gallerie. We shuffled in with suitcases of coin and paper money with security greeting us like Queens. A lovey and professional environment with a warm welcoming by Mark. It all was a bit overwhelming for us but Mark made us feel comfortable and assured us with his knowledge and honesty with what we had. The experience and out come was satisfying and prosperous for our family. We meet a second time and again being more than pleased. In the interim I have highly recommended this firm / Mark to a family/friends in the same situation. We will be visiting Mark again with Stacks Bower Rare Coin Gallerie for yet more of our familys collection.BestMarianna Kaszy-Carlson
Andrew himself greeted me, and he took a careful and methodical look at a rare currency I brought in. Considering how busy he and his staff mustve been due to the New York Intl Numismatic Convention that took place, I appreciated the time he took to value my currency, and make an offer that was fair for both of us. I sent him an email to thank him. How often do you get first-class customer service from every level of staff, especially nowadays? I will be going back again!
Person I dealt with online tries taking advantage of people. Trys offering lump some offers for multiple different items and gets a lot of people to bite. There nice and pleasant because they are making money off you and take advantage of people. Do your research and price your items personally before going to sell anywhere. 99% of big company money buyers are professional scam artists
Brought in my coin collection to sell. There were almost no lights on in the gallery when I entered which made me think it was closed except for the security guard. the person taking care of me was pleasant, BUT miss counted one of the denomination of coin I had by almost 20 pieces, I mentioned I had a problem with his number but did NOT recount them until I told him to recount them. He also gave me a price for a 5 oz bar of silver when in reality it was a 10 oz bar of silver. When it came to the check they issued me for purchasing my collection, my last name was spelled wrong. What bothered me the most was that I was never given an apology for any of his mistakes. Was I stupid for not walking out after his second mistake ???
I called “STACK’S Bowers Rare Coin Galleries last week ..Arrived at 2:30pm , Security Officer greeted me with a smile , hand shake , told him I was there to see “Mark” asked if I would like a bottle of water😁😁..Wow customer service beyond...It took about 45 mins to an hour to go thru my collection.. Excellent Experience, shared laughs ..It was truly a great experience... No hassle straight forward! True Professional’s... Highly Recommend Stack’s!!
I went in to get a 1 OZ gold bar for my girlfriends birthday. To my horror the gold ATM was out of order. I went into the store and met Jesse. He informed me that they were currently out of those bars. Luckily for me he decided to check their safe where he found a Suisse credit. He made out my receipt and I was all set to go. Thanx Jesse.
I buy and sell a lot of coins and currency as my part time job. I have tried just about everyone else in NYC but I keep coming back to Stacks. 99% of the time they have the best buy prices. And the one or two times we couldnt make a deal work, they were still friendly and VERY helpful.
I was disappointed with this store. They had a very limited stock and in the end I was only able to buy 1 morgan and 1 peace MBC-. They also told me that the amount of Spanish or colonial coins available was practically nil. It only helped me to buy these souvenirs and you can only pay with cash, not with a credit card. As a positive I emphasize the great kindness of the security guard. Greetings.

2022-03-15I was never a coin collector but had a rather large collection from a relative. I took the collection to Stacks Bowers to sell. Mr. Schimel was honest, straightforward, helped educate me about what I was selling - and very patient and kind in his dealings with me. The price Stacks Bowers gave for the coins was completely fair and trustworthy.

2022-04-29I got to go to stacks bowers for the first time last week. It was AMAZING I got to meet the manager and there was a guard there that treated me as if I paid him myself. Everyone there was kind and welcoming and the prices there made me feel as if I was robbing them. What an awesome experience and I will be coming back next time I am in the city

2022-04-27I took the 7 yr old I babysit in just to check this place out, as he’s an avid penny collector. The guys gave us a free book and a few Indian head Pennies! They also gave us some old nickels and a half dollars. We had such a good time and will definitely be back 😊

2022-04-10If you have rare and old coins to sell, dont waste your time with this company. They will offer $400 per coin and then sell it for 10x the amount. I know that is how they make money but their cash offers are kind of insulting. There is not much difference between these guys and the guys on 47th Street. In fact, the guys on 47th Street are more transparent.

2021-04-17I had a great experience with this business, from the very first email contact to the concluded transaction. I made plans to have a couple of coins evaluated, and I was treated fairly and respectfully. The process was easy and I chose to sell the coins (and some bullion) to them. I was happy with my compensation. I witnessed similarly respectful customer service toward walk-in buyers. I highly recommend Stacks Bowers.

2021-05-03What a great company to work with. I am so glad that I had them work their magic with my rare coins. Your service was very much appreciated, and I highly recommend them to anyone concerned about getting the best value for their coins. Skilled, professional, honest and fair. 2021-06-25Overall a very positive experience selling a modest coin collection. Mark was a pleasure to deal with and very straightforward. The prices were fair for dealer prices. More importantly, given that the business has been around for decades and is quite reputable I felt confident that I would not be taken advantage of. Would definitely recommend them for selling coins.

2020-10-25I was looking to sell my father’s and grandfather’s collection of gold and silver US and foreign coins. I had a pleasant conversation with Mark S on the phone. After sending him an inventory it was decided they were coins that they would either buy or auction. This was a very large collection and Mark carefully and methodically went through the collection with us. This process took a few hours and we never felt rushed. I did a great deal of homework on what I felt the coins were worth before going in. The prices offered were very fair and even exceeded my expectations. I felt the process with Mark S was very honest and transparent. My father left very pleased with the process and his check. We sold everything except a collection of silver commemoratives which were recommended to put to auction in order to maximize our profit. I felt a lot of pressure to honor what this collection meant to my father and grandfather and Stack’s Bowers came through big.
