Star Diner in other cities:
No frills 80s-90s diner. They sell lotto and cigarettes, only accept cash the food is ok. But the place is packed and the door is always moving as people walk out more walk in. It is an interesting collection of people. You see people from all walk of life come in and enjoy simple griddle and fired diner food.
I have been going to this Diner since 1986 I was 18 when I started eating there after parties and breakfast almost every morming. This Dinerbits a landmark of the city of white plains. Eating there its like eating at Grandmas house and Everyone employees and customers know by name or what you order every day. Great place Good people, Great Food , Good Crew...
This whole in the wall is a fantastic find for real comfort food at great prices. Their breakfast menu is extensive and the service is quick. Their daily specials are the kind of food that made diners famous. Definitely, the place to go to if you are staying in the area of business and dont want to go to the phoney overpriced chic places in the area.
Every time I go to White Plains, I go to Star Diner. They are a quaint, stainless-steel, atomic era diner. They serve great, hearty portioned breakfasts. Service is really nice and quick. Food has always been fresh and delicious. Not many places like this in New York. Most have closed down, gone out of business. Been coming here for last 6 years! Worth the trip! Sincerely recommend Star Diner!
Should be the 5 Star Diner. Great little classic cozy dinner. Not a lot of seats but lots of choices with great portions at excellent prices. Not to far off of 287. Definitely if in the area and hungry I would recommend stopping in and grabbing a meal. Very friendly and courteous staff. The only downside is limited seating and limited parking for cars.
My sister and I walked here after visiting our mom at The Kensington. We almost turned around at the Cash Only sign, but couldnt resist stepping back in time and I used my emergency cash, with the prominent ATM at the doorway as a backup. I chose the cheapest thing I could find on the extensive menu, a cup of chicken noodle soup, and my sister got a milkshake to share. We sat at the counter for the fun of it, watching the cook at the grill directly in front of us was nostalgically great. My soup came in a small bowl and I remarked that the bowl portion must be huge. The soup was overflowing with noodles and vegetables and chunks of chicken while the liquid was bland - my sister said it should be really salty to be good diner food, I disagreed. The milkshake was delicious, very chocolately and thick. We had enough for about 2 glasses each, very satisfying. When I paid at the register. The soup was either 4.00 or 4.50, I didnt look at other prices carefully so I am not sure which item was which. I guess the waitress DID give me the bowl size, not what I ordered. I had enough cash to cover the bill and the prices were still reasonable, so I didnt say anything. (I do wonder whether this happens often and my sister and I were an easy target, but I did get a good cup of soup out of it!)
I called for Delivery going by their menu and figured they were close enough to not wait long. I order a Grilled Tuna Cheese Sandwich with onions and Fries. Their menu had one price. When I received my Delivery, not only did my coupon not get used, but it was $19. Tip was separate. Menu says $7.99 & $5.99.My Sandwich was cold, Light Tuna, fishy, not White, no cheese or onions. Fries were fine.I called up the Mgr. He told me Uber Eats makes their own prices from their menu. Huh? So...a cheap meal was ended costing me $22.50. Crazy. I wrote into UberEats and told them unacceptable and how true that you decide cost on menu options. The next day, UberEats refunded me $12.50 and said they would bring my issue up to the Diner. Some rave about this instution but I wont be one.
Loved this place. It is small with an open kitchen behind the counter. It is the quintessential diner including a waitress with a sense of humour and sass. They have a good group of regulars that provided entertaining banter with the staff. The food was delicious and service was fast and you must use cash. If ever back in White Plains I will be there.
This place is always been a favorite of mine and hopefully things will get back to normal soon. If youre in White Plains and want a great diner with good food, this is the place. Its small and cozy. Its hot in the Summer and cold in the Winter. It brings you back to years ago. The staff is fantastic. Its good for breakfast lunch and dinner and Ive been there on all of those occasions plus late at night. Its close to the hospital and to Mamaroneck Avenue. Its also a good neighborhood place. Its not 5 star and the parking is aweful, but its a nice place to go to. There is a pride here thats unmatched in most restaurants. They make you feel welcome and they serve you a good meal.
Ordered a pastrami sandwich via UberEats and it came with cheese, which was not listed on the menu. They actually have a separate item that says pastrami with cheese, but that is not the one I ordered. When I called, the recommendation was to order again (paying more fees) and they would try to not put cheese. Also, the mozzarella sticks are outrageously priced at $8 for five (the item count isnt on the menu).
When I am in the white Plains for business this is a must for a grab and go breakfast they never fail me yet. The place is small to dine at but I am ok with that because not all.the time I sit down while I am here. I love the fact that they are close to the hospital and they are budget friendly
Good food, reasonable price, open 24 hours. Cash only, with an ATM in the entryway. Walking distance from the hospital. Ordered takeout and the order was ready quickly, and everything was correct. The mozzarella sticks were notably good. Its a little place with limited seating, and it seems popular at all times of day and night.
No healthy options on the menu. Everything is battered and fried. While I was there someone came in and ordered a fried hamburger. The service was horrible. I saw the waitress twice; when she took my order and when she handed me the check.Very small cramped location. Forget about getting in there in a wheelchair or walker.Im usually pretty good about giving places two visits before I write them off but I wont be going back to this one.
The Star Diner is one of my favorite places to go. It is my and my ladys default place to go when we want to go out. The atmosphere is great and even when it is crowded its still conducive to allowing you to talk to your date. The food is always excellent and Eddie is a great dude!
Best greasy spoon spot in White Plains. Built from an old train car so its not very spacious but it evokes a certain 90s nostalgia thats very inviting. The crew is a well knit extremely professional bunch whos customer service is more than you expect from a diner. The food is exceptional, while the portions are filling and the quality is absolutely what you pay for. This eats is cash only!
Its a small narrow diner built in a trailer or old train car. But its great for what it is. The service is good and friendly and the prices are reasonable. It has a basic menu with a few specials, but you can get most things youd expect at a diner. Some items are really good and some are just ok. If you have realistic expectations you should leave happy. I come in here when Im alone with my kids for breakfast or dinner when we need a quick easy bite. My wife doesnt like the place and its hard to get 5 at a table anyway.
This was my first time going to the Star Diner on an out of town trip with family. The restaurant was cozy with a great atmosphere and staff. Our food did not take long to come out and when it did, it was absolutely delicious! It was reasonably priced and a great way to start my morning after getting off a long plane ride.
I get a bit claustrophobic in small places, so I thought that the small size would cause me some distress, but for some reason it didnt bother me at all, even when it started to get a bit busy durning my meal. The food was really good for what it was: authentic, greasy diner food. I had breakfast, one egg with corned beef hash. I was a little disappointed in the potatoes, but that is a matter of taste honestly. I just didnt like how they were cut. They were cooked perfectly fine . The hash was good and the people were super friendly and smiling. I saved this place to my favorites for when Im in the area visiting friends again.
The service was excellent and very timely and they were very friendly and kind and they may help me because I was having problems at first breathing they didnt harass me or anything at the table I bought my food to me and I went out and was finished they asked me if that I want more coffee or anything and I just had it very decent time and very good time at the diner
I live in White Plains and we call ahead and order bkfst and sometimes other meals and pick it up to bring home. This is the absolute best Diner I have ever been too in my life. Just a hole in the wall, but the food is outstanding, service is awesome. Really nice people too.
The appearance is not great and it looks like a hole in the wall but its quit the opposite. Small but busy home cooked style setting, I would say this is the best diner in White Plains. I dont step foot in the other ones because the appearance is nicer but the food is gross. The food here is home cooked feeling and the service is fast!
When I walked in it took literally 5 mins to be acknowledged. I did sit at a booth by myself though. Anyhow they never asked me what I wanted to drink. And still never had gotten a drink when I left.I ordered a grilled chicken deluxe with fries. Fries was still oily. Anyhow food was ehh.
This is an original New York Coach Diner; one of those railroad cars converted to diners. A true piece of history. It is tucked behind a tiny but otherwise unassuming storefront with its own door and tiny entrace,, and the only indicator that this is a restaurant is the movie-theater style sign that tells you its the Star Diner. It is truly cozy inside, with a long counter and swivel stools, and small booths along the opposite side of the aisle, which leads to two original train bathrooms in the back! The only thing that looks different is the floor-to-ceiling beverage refrigerator, where it appears they had to clear a booth or two to install it there. :-(The owners & staff are very friendly, and gave us plenty of time to pour over the typically large menu with many of the usual diner staples (breakfast all day? Why, yes!). There seems to be a regular clientele and lots of conversation in the air. My family and I dont understand Spanish, and perhaps it was some other Hispanic language (Puerto Rican?), so we couldnt eavesdrop!I had really simple, classic corned beef hash and eggs with hash browns. Nothing fancy, and Ive never seen an everyday kind of diner use anything but the canned variety. Still, soul-food for me! Also had an egg-cream. Basically some chocolate milk with a generous spritz of seltzer (plain soda water). They recommend their homemade rice pudding, so I had to get some and share, of course. It was really delicious, and with such a large helping that was enough for at least two, I was really stuffed when I managed to get myself unglued to my seat, bundle up, and waddle out the door.Oh, and the prices are really reasonable, too! I felt a bit transported back in time when I realized weve gone through decades of upscaling old concepts, elevating the same basic food to gourmet, and paying a ton more more it. Sometimes its worth it, but other times it just feels unnecessary. This felt pretty comfortable to meVery happy I found and decided to go in to this astounding piece of architectural and cultural culinary history hidden behind those old, beat up storefronts in downtown White Plains, NY
Really mediocre food. Me and my fiance came here for dinner and much to our reluctance after seeing the entrance decided to try it anyway because we saw there were customers. We ordered the Yankee pot roast with mash and corn $10 and meatloaf with mash and peas and carrots $10. The pot roast was dry, under seasoned and unmemorable. It wasnt even a real pot roast, it was 6 slices of beef in a tomato type of gravy. The mash was okay and the corn was straight out of the can. The meatloaf meal was basically what you could get from a frozen tv dinner from Stouffers. Staff is nice but there was also some kind of language barrier or confusion, I asked for the Italian bread and got wheat toast instead...At $24 (including tip) I expected better. We should have stuck to the diner staples like breakfast and all things fried.
I L O V E this place so much. Its so affordable & such good diner food. Its open 24 hours and lemme tell you NOTHING compares to being drunk & hungry at 3am and knowing you can stumble on in for some INEXPENSIVE PANCAKES 😤😤this is a cash only establishment and there is an ATM in the entryway
Burned out from fast food after a long, long week? Sick of getting soaked at fancypants franchises? Want to hear yourself think instead of the news? We frequent Star Diner because we just want a good family meal after a full days work, political jerk and media twerk. Chill at the Star!
A local classic. Been eating at Star Diner for years. They always have a special for lunch and dinner. I recall ordering spaghetti and meatballs once, and you could actually eat and enjoy it. After that experience, I knew it was ok to be adventurous and not be disappointed.SD feels like Cheers.
I really cant say enough good stuff about this place. Its quite an experience to visit if youre in search of a true diner. The food is what you would expect from a greasy spoon type place but the operations of this tiny kitchen with seats is amazing. The staff works like an orchestra, its quite fantastic.
Eating at the Star Diner always gives me a sense of community. All walks of life eat there.I love their French Toast. Not the huge slices of challah bread with all the extras you get elsewhere. Star Diner keeps it simple and good. They lose one star for never having anything but grape jelly. No strawberry or marmalade.
A White Plains institution. Early morning is an eclectic crowd of nightcrawlers and hospital folks coming in for the morning shift. Its standard diner fare, but done extremely well - the BEC is one of the best around (they toast the cheese on the roll under the broiler, and crack the egg right over the bacon). Its a little dingy and worn around the edges, but thats all part of the charm.
Star Diner has great food I happen to know one of the owners personally he has great great great food its not the fanciest place but the meals a large The Price is Right and theyre very fast on your orders and to another question I may not be able to finish this either because I get long-winded but Ill try to make this fast it is good to get to know the owners of these places because they know the owners of other store owners in the community and they usually put in a good word and you can get a good price on things in other stores not necessarily if its food store you might get a good price in the furniture place if you know what Im saying networking
Look at this, Diego doesnt mind waiting for waitresses to serve him, but he cant wait in line at AutoZone and he slanders the Hispanic sales ladies. I suppose the waitresses dont make him wait for his meals, he must pre call in his order.Personally I wouldnt. Eat at this dump of a hole in the wall, but to each his own.A commercial kitchen is clean when it passes my health standards. If Im not allowed to view the kitchen hmmmmmmmm
My son and I got some food there after spending most of the day at W.P.H. so naturally we were starving. I ordered a cheeseburger deluxe and my son a bowl of chili, the food was served in about 5 mins the burger wasnt bad but the fries had freezer burn.. But this is the reason for 1 star review after my son ate most of the chili I heard the waiter speak in spanish not knowing that I too speak spanish and he told the cook wow the kid likes the chili and the cook responded yea I TOOK THAT OLD CHILI, WARMED IT UP.. HE CANT TELL THE DIFFERENCE... this was all followed by laughter... I told my son you never order seafood from a diner or chili before this whole ordeal and now he knows why.. bottom line its really a breakfast spot.. hopefully they are not serving turned eggs.. bon appetite -_-

2022-07-03Waitress messed up our order and after we began to eat then took it back. Then charged us for refills on the coffee. Didnt even give us water. My niece also had the pasta and became poisoned. Wont suggest to anyone to come here. Terrible experience overall.

2022-05-05Amazing Food. Great Little Place. I wish it stayed open later tho. A Diner that closes at 7:30pm is just weird to me. Smh

2022-06-23The only thing that sucks is waiting in line cuz it’s a very small place but for a dinner it’s worth the waiting, it’s yummy and not expensive hits the right spot for breakfast!
