The new museum was under construction the last time I visited. They did such a good job on showing the crucial details of Lady Liberty and her history. The movies, narrations, and exhibits were all so well done. Travel tip: get the free self guided audio tour as you come in as they are very well done and are packed with information.
This place is well worth the visit preferably before you see the statue but also amazing checking it out afterward. If you’re strapped for time, check out the 10 minute movie in the theater. It gives so much context for the statue and also the rest of the museum! It’s also really cool to catch the original torch on exhibit!
Statue of Liberty Museum: Please don’t miss to visit the Liberty Museum. You can see lots of historical photos and information about this monument. Inside the Theatre you can watch a documentary video that describes all about its history; I think everybody will enjoy watching this video and loving it.:-)
This is a small museum next to the status of liberty. Theres many exhibits and information displays in here. The main problem that I have about this museum is that food and drinks are not permitted inside. So people have to take turns going inside (someone holds the food and drinks outside) or people have to finish eating or drinking before they could enter the museum. Another thing I notice is the information in this museum is a bit redundance. I went to the statue of liberty and climbed up to the pedestal, and theres also a museum there that explains the same exact history about the statue of liberty.
The Statue of Liberty Museum is located on Liberty Island in New York City. The museum opened on May 16, 2019,[1] and is focused on the creation, meaning, and history of the Statue of Liberty (formally Liberty Enlightening the World), a large statue by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi which the people of France gave to the people of the United States in 1886.
Located on Liberty Island, just behind the Statue of Liberty, this museum has been created to help tourists learn a little extra about Americas most iconic symbol. When you take the ferry to the island, I recommend going here before you go explore the glorious sculpture that towers over it. I can understand the impulse to just go and start photographing the Lady Liberty. But since youve made it so far and youre finally here, might as well make your while worth it and go away with more than just a few pictures. Oh and they have some stuff you can buy as memorabilia too. Good museum!
This is a small but historic museum. Its absolutely amazing how much work & detail went into building the statue & the reconstruction in the 80s. I loved the background Music & also if u read everything itll take u 3 hours 2 do the whole thing. Outside u have a excellent view of Manhattan & the skyscrapers including The Freedom Tower & Empire State Building. The big gift shop has so many interesting things that u can buy.
A great museum that takes people through the history and building of the statue of liberty monument. I recommend this to be the first place you visit once you get into the island before you exhaust yourself walking around the monument. Here youll learn cool stuff about the monument and just how it came to be. Aside from that theres a huge screen that displays data and photographs of the visitors. If you want yours to be displayed just opposite the screen are small vertical interactive touch screens where you input your details and take a selfie. Once published, the details and your photograph is going to be displayed on the huge screen for everyone to see. You should definitely try this. Theres even an option of sending the picture to your email. Overall a great place to be and get to learn and touch the real stuff that were used to make the statue of liberty. Enjoy!
One of the best museums associated with a national monument I have been to. Some of the digital installation were so up to date - especially the one which takes an image of you and creates a digital mosaic out of many images. A lot of thought seem to have gone into many of these mukti media based installations. And the history of creation of Statue of Liberty forms alive with these installations. The new one toward the edge of the island was a refreshing visit. The old one near the base of the statue which has not been dismantled was a good visit too
Newly constructed museum just opposite to flag and a very scenic look out of NJ and statue. Movie in theater show case the history and great presentation about Statue of Liberty journey so far. Dont forget to try your potrait and see yourself on 100 ft digital screen. This make you feel to be part of Liberty and kids are crazy to see their pics on such a big screen.
This new museum includes a variety of exhibits. Most impactful is the interactive digital display where every visitor is invited to contribute what liberty means to them. Each persons photo and answers are launched to the large screen where all of the contributions create a collage. Its a fun community building activity.
The Statue of Liberty (Statue of Liberty) is one of the most famous landmarks in New York City. .officially Liberty Enlightening the World, it is located on Liberty Island south of Manhattan, at the mouth of the Hudson and near Ellis Island. it was offered by the French in 1886, to celebrate the centenary of the American declaration of independence and as a sign of friendship between the two nations. the inauguration of the statue was celebrated on October 28, 1886 in the presence of the President of the United States, Grover Cleveland. The idea came from Édouard Laboulaye, a lawyer and professor at the Collège de France, in 1865.the project was entrusted in 1871 to the French sculptor Auguste Bartholdi. The choice of the brass to be used in the construction was entrusted to the architect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc, who had the idea of using the repoussé technique. in 1879, on the death of Eugène Viollet-le-Duc, Bartholdi called on the engineer Gustave Eiffel to decide on the internal structure of the statue. The latter imagines a metal pylon which supports the hammered and fixed copper plates. the statue is also part of the National Historic Landmarks since October 15, 1924 and of the world heritage list established by UNESCO since 1984.the Statue of Liberty, in addition to being a very important monument of New York City, has become one of the symbols of the United States, representing more generally freedom and emancipation vis-à-vis of oppression. architecturally, the statue recalls the Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world. Finally, it constitutes the main element of the national monument of the Statue of Liberty, managed by the National Park Service (NPS)
Located inside the Statue of Liberty complex, the museum is a must-stop for anyone visiting the statue...It is possible to know the whole story from the project to the last restoration....With the help of the telephone that allows you to listen to the story in several languages, you can dive into the history of this American symbol that fills its people with pride....Mandatory stop....I highly recommend....
Before entering it is good to have a quarter coin on hand to use the locker and store food or other belongings. While in the museum, you are only allowed to bring water. There are elevators but they only allow use for people with a wheelchair. The good thing about going on foot is that you can see the museum displays. Important and interesting information about the construction and history of the Statue of Liberty. All staff only speak English. Being on the pedestal of the statue, you cannot take a picture of it, but you can take a view of the New York skyline.
Simple but emotional museum, since the values that the statue symbolizes are clearly explained and that invite reflection. There is an interesting attraction, where they take a photo of you and after a few minutes it appears in a huge animated mural where the photos of the visitors end up contributing and forming part of the silhouette of the statue. Highly recommended.
You simply have to see this imposing structure. From the island you have an excellent view of downtown Manhattan.A tour of the museum is also highly recommended. You learn a lot about the history and construction of the statue. In combination with Ellis Island, 5 hours are away quickly. 🗽
The statue is a symbol of Libertas, the Roman goddess of liberty dressed in it. He holds a torch over his head with his right hand, and in his left hand the date of the US Declaration of Independence - IULY IV MDCCLXXVI (July 4, 1776, Rome) tabula ansata. The broken chains and the chain are moving forward in connection with the recent abolition of national slavery. [8] After the dedication, the statue became a symbol of freedom and the United States of America; it was a pleasure to meet the migrants from the sea.

2022-08-24The Statue of Liberty Museum is a great companion institution to the Statue of Liberty itself. Here one can learn about the inspiration, construction, and legacy of this great monument. There is a three segment film about the Statue of Liberty narrated by respected broadcast journalist Diane Sawyer, as well as historical exhibits and interactive displays. All of these are highly interesting, but my favorite highlight is seeing the original landmarks torch that was replaced in 1984 due to irreparable damage up close here at the museum.

2022-07-14Visited on a Tuesday (7/12/22), crowds were not that bad. I will tell you we left from the Liberty State Park (Jersey City) in NJ and immediately after clearing security there was no line and we were able to board the ferry before our 12pm ticket time which was awesome as it was a hot day and we were not prepared to be waiting in the sun but we got lucky. The Museum is air conditioned so it was a great place to take a break from the heat and enjoy the many displays and informational areas throughout the building.

2022-06-12A museum located in the park. It is a great experience to learn the history behind the Statue of Liberty. Managed to watch the movie describing the process behind the creation of the monument which was amazing. A definite must for us to appreciate the Liberty to be more than meets the eye.

2022-03-16This was an interesting experience. This museum really clearly explained the history of the Statue of Liberty, including the construction and ongoing efforts to maintain it. It also discussed its place in American culture. I would definitely recommend it.

2022-09-21Youll need an hour or more in the museum on Liberty Island and another hour to walk around the island itself. Thats if youre not going into the pedestal. The museum is very interactive with many models to view of the various stages of the statue. Park rangers are on site to answer questions and discuss the history. There is also a junior ranger program here so if youre bringing kids make sure to do that and get their junior ranger badges.

2022-08-21Used to think the Statue of Liberty is just another structure, but was awed by the rich history it encompasses. Turns out the original colour is copper bronze, but the oxidation gave it the greenish hue. Super cool place to explore the origins of the statue.

2022-07-27Included in the ticket price to visit the statue you can enjoy this museum that presents the history of the statue. You can have a look at one of the torches used for the statue not the original one! (I see some mistaking for the original one.) Some of the information is a bit redundant, if not good museum definitely worth checking out when on the island.

2021-12-06Yes, the Statue is amazing but at this museum you will learn the story behind it. Its free and well worth your time. You will also see original artifacts that dont exist anywhere else. They also have very clean bathrooms and friendly park rangers.

2022-06-18A surprisingly detailed and explanatory museum! The history and process behind the statue are covered in great detail, and we ended up spending over an hour here. Theres also a 3-part film to watch, although youll end up sitting on the floor and having to change room every ~5 minutes to see the whole thing!

2022-06-09The museum actually is a fancy version of the museum inside the pedestal. The theatre presents a lot of informative answers from the pedestal. If you don’t have tickets to the pedestal. This museum is even more details and fancier choice
