I walked in to look and I obviously cant buy but the people inside treated me like I was just as valuable as their pianos inside. They let me play on a piano that was over $200,000.00 soooooo gorgeous. I left feeling like a millions bucks. Someday I will have a Steinway & Sons piano.♡♡
My son and I just arrived today to NYC. My son saw the Steinway piano gallery at 43rd Street and wanted to stop by. He’s a pianists and wanted to look at some grand piano. We’ve been talking about purchasing a grand piano and this was my chance to actually see it. There’s signs on the door that you have to ring the door bell, mask etc. I get it. My son rang the door bell. An older guy opens the front door and tells us that we are not allowed to come in, appointment only, and we have to schedule. Which is fine, I understand. The part that I don’t like was the fact that he said people just come in to play the piano and not purchase. Just because it is a woman with a juvenile doesn’t equal they are not purchasing. Please be more selective on how you speak to people and not judge people based on their appearances.
Lovely enough pianos, but if you walk in with an accomplished young pianist dreaming about these pianos you may very well be treated with indifference and told to be quiet in the event that another person who has arrived after you decides to start playing on one of the pianos which youve been told you cant touch. It is, however, an excellent lesson for a young person learning about generosity, marketing and sales. We have been very happy with our Yamaha.
Brought our two daughters in to this elegant store. The saleswoman was kind and helpful, even though we were clearly not in the market to buy one of their gorgeous pianos. Our daughter was allowed to play one of their pianos and the beautiful sound brought tears to my eyes. The installation by Spencer Finch is absolutely breathtaking too‼️
I annoyed the lady at the sales desk, but eventually she showed me to a room where I sampled to amazing Steinways with BIG price tags. I really appreciated this opportunity to play on one of the worlds best pianos. Dont expect to play the beautiful pianos sitting in the lobby unless youre ready to spend. Cool spot for piano lovers without question.
Fabulous space and beautiful pianos - pianos which are apparently museum pieces not to be touched by young or unassuming individuals. Regardless of your skill level, whether it be concert pianist or amateur, you will be disappointed if you are hoping to play the pianos. Quintin was very kind and was a good representative of their store, but the rest of the employees for curt and cold. Unless you can afford to write a check and look the part, avoid this store.
This place is not for really seeing what a wonderful piano sounds like. It’s more of an art exhibit/tiny concert hall where every piano is shrink wrapped like the plastic forks in airplane meal containers, not a bench in sight. The whole place screams “don’t touch me”, yet for some reason a lady checks every five seconds to see if they’re in tune (bringing an open cup of water near open grand pianos!!). The staff are friendly There’s a tiny room that has a decent little grand that has enough tiny scratches to be worthy of letting street urchins playing it but honestly you could find a better one in a local church or nursing home where you get more than a five minute limit. If you’re dreaming of getting a beautiful piano someday, skip this place and go to a local piano store where you can sit down at a brand new German made concert grand that’s worth as much as a house and play your heart out.
It was like walking into a dream of my ideal manhattan apartment... just grand pianos for me to play on. No kitchen, no bedroom... just pianos. The host was extremely engaging and hospitable. She walked me through some areas, and led me to the demo room. The pianos truly are no joke - if I can afford one in the future, theyre my first choice.
As a Steinway owner, I was excited to see the new showroom in NYC. Unfortunately, I was not greeted upon entering the hall and no one seemed to care that I was present in the room. I have been a Steinway owner for quite some time now and I am used to being treated like royalty At the Boston Steinway showroom, since they treat everyone as if they were a professional pianist and given the most respect.I was not allowed to play any pianos except for a smaller model M grand in a small glass box. I was expecting the NYC showroom to be above all other showrooms since The factory isnt too far away from NYC, but I was unfortunately wrong
Very welcoming receptionist; beautiful space; all down hill from there ( ie...dont expect the annoying sales experience to be any different because the product happens to be a musical instrument).. .; no other comment other than when i finally buy a piano it wont be from this location.
My wife and I went to partner up with them for a teachers event, she has been teaching for 30 years. We found out very quickly they use teachers to network their sales and pay the lowest commission in the industry. Additionally, the salesman was trying to gain the attention of my wife, which made us both uncomfortable .... who also pretended he was a manager. I guess they dont screen employees? Wost experience ever. I will never support them again. My last post disappeared, huh. I thought id put it back, funny how Manhattan location only has 12 reviews.
I would say I would have expected at least one large queue in the showroom, instead only a half-tail series. A very small rehearsal room, piano not perfectly tuned and indifferent staff. In my opinion they have a lot to learn from Fazioli. W the Italians and their products.
Excellent place, excellent attention. We went to see, and the employee showed us all the pianos, gave us some demonstration and offered us to play some if we wanted. We asked him to take pictures of the place and he had no problems. I recommend for those who like pianos to stop by the store. The visit is not more than 15 or 20 minutes and it is worth it.
Pianist and great fan of the classical and pianistic musical world, I came on a pilgrimage to Steinway Hall with the fear of not being able to play (linked to the several opinions that I read above)But the reality is quite different, once arrived in the shop, the secretary was welcoming and invited me to come and play on their new piano (the Stevo at $ 120,000) I could play what I wanted no problem

2017-11-03Very friendly staff. After helping with their interior renovation, they facilitated the process of buying a piano flawlessly. The acoustics in the concert hall are equally excellent.

2020-01-08I absolutely love Pianos and this place was a dream come true for me because I always wanted to go to a Steinway and Sons. The only problem is if I wanted to buy a piano, it would be hard because I couldnt find a salesperson.

2019-03-14This place is amazing with a great selection of Steinway and more affordable Steinway designed, upright and grand, Boston and Essex models. Go downstairs and there are more pianos with a room of preowned pianos. There is also a recital room that is acoustically mesmerizing and a soundproof room to test out a Steinway. Spent some time walking around with the Rental Manager, Selene, who was very nice and knowledgeable. If you like Pianos, this is a must see!

2018-09-12Beautiful displays of pianos but not a suitable place to try them out. A lot of the pianos were quite out of tune and the workers were a little rude when I visited.

2019-11-20It always intimidating to walk by and look at all those pianos on display. Had the opportunity the other day to stop in and visit the small recital hall (seats 74) for an event. The view is even more stunning downstairs, artistic chandelier, intimate reception area and a beautiful acoustically design hall. Not to mention, more skillfully crafted piano on display. Definitely warrant a visit.
