Ordered the jamaican me crazy option...jerk chicken, ribs, brisket, pulled pork with Mac and cheese and grits. I thought everything was great, not hot but we did drive home with the a/c on. I would definitely recommend. Far less $$ than dinosaur and a lot of food. Go there!
I have never in my life felt so unhappy about a meal. It sucks because the staff was very kind. I have been eating pork belly my entire life and what I ordered tonight was NOT pork belly. It was over cooked dried out meat smothered in some thick sauce. Then I ordered the catfish and 5 for 12.99 I was like well okay and then I got the order. I could not believe what showed up pieces the size of my pinky finger. I have to say I wish it was good because I really was looking forward to trying the Rasta pasta next I had the next few meals picked out smh. I’ve lived over here for years I will never order from them again. Spent 40.00 and ended up having hotdogs for dinner smh
I have never experienced worse customer service in my life. Being treated like your patronage is a nuisance is appalling. I don’t normally give a bad review for one bad experience but this was so over the top I had to express my disappointment. This is a restaurant I will not be giving a second chance. Life is too short and there are far too many great restaurants in Rochester to go through that again.
This fish fry was fine. It may have been better not as take out. The container may have taken some of the crispiness away. Not a lot of flavor to the fish but they do other several different sauces you can add. Although I requested slaw as a side I was given creamed corn instead. It was a bit sweet but okay in general. The mac and cheese was also good. The cornbread was not overly sweet and had a dry crumbly texture. Im not sure if Ill get another fish fry here but Im looking forward to trying some of the items on their menu.
I recently had the culinary misfortune of sitting in front of the least appetizing plate of barbecue burnt ends I have ever encountered. It seems almost criminal to append a word like unappetizing to burnt ends, but Sticky Soul & BBQ managed to draw it out of me. A sickly, slightly soured sauce coating overdried morsels of meat atop a bed of glutinous, unseasoned rice.My dining companions worked their way through a brisket sandwich that could most favorably be described as, flavorless and chicken bites served with a tiny side cup of bbq sauce (that, incidentally, we were charged extra for...).What sort of barbecue place sells chicken without the barbecue sauce? For that matter, what sort of barbecue place doesnt smell like barbecue smoke? Mysteries probably not worth solving when there are better options available in the area. Was it *inedible*?No, it was still food, we still ate it - though happily, we wont be eating it again. Overall, an unworthy successor to the former Sticky Lips and a poor imitation of better BBQ. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.
Update. Dealing with covid has been tough. Generally sold out really early. Like by 630 . Good for lunch after 4pm.A good start to reclaiming its status as a landmark BBQ joint. Classics like the cheesy grits are still on. Lack of BBQ chicken seems an obvious oversight, the fried chicken was good, but not what one expects for sticky BBQ. I am intrigued by the fish curry though. Five stars because Im glad theyre back!
Listen!! I just moved from the south a month ago and I have been looking for a BBQ place since I got here!! When I tell you we have eaten here twice already and have not been disappointed once! The ribs were delicious, my son loved the pork sandwich, the collards perfectly seasoned, the BBQ chicken tender, juicy, grilled to perfection, and that CORN!! I don’t know what they put in that corn, but my son and I fought over it and he doesn’t like corn!! Oh and my son said the fried chicken was seasoned good and so good! Very very good food! I can’t wait to try something else there!!
There’s nothing on this menu that isn’t perfect. You can taste the love and soul that goes into each dish, and the portions will leave you with the best leftovers. I haven’t personally been inside to order or eat but the food via delivery and pickup is consistent and fast! The burnt ends and cornbread are top tier, with the fried chicken in a close second. We love a local joint that is a staple when visiting Rochester
Was excited to see the new renovations, cant say the same about the food or service. Order the catfish strips with two sides. Catfish good, sides were veggies that were cooked to mush and rice and beans that were flavorless, cornbread was beyond stale. Waitress was bored and unattentive, couldnt get a second round of drinks, asked for the check and cant imagine Ill go back anytime soon.
Ive never been in here before. But let me say, I will come back! The portion sizes were very nice, coukd easily make 2 meals of one! And the food was delicious! From the BBQ chicken I had, to the coconut chicken my friend had. My side was Mac & Cheese and was also very good. And the corn bread- wow, I almost considered going and ordering a couple more!
By far some of the best bbq in town. The food is always nice and fresh. Their sweet potatoes fries are some of the best Ive ever had. They also have a great selection of sauces. The staff are always friendly but IBELIE is one of the best there. So I suggest if your looking for good drinks, great food and a nice atmosphere... this would be the place to check out.😊
It was the first time eating from there and the last! take my advise DO NOT pay a penny for the food. the meat was very dry, chicken and ribs. the corn bread you could squeeze water out of it . they did not have chocolate cake that was on the menu. We we re e missing three items when it was delivered. When I spoke to the manager very nasty. We went through grub hub. they were great. They reembursed us our money do to the plain, dry and nasty from Sticky Soul and BBQ. There are so many better places to get a terrific dinner from tasteful,
Every time I have been able to order, the food has been great. That being said I am rarely able to put an order in. The past few times Ive called Ive been put on hold for over 10 minutes and then hung up on. When I finally got through and ordered my food and went to pick it up, I stood there along with 3 others for 15 minutes watching orders pile up on the counter. Found out after 15 minutes that all of our orders were sitting there on the counter the whole time even though the cashier told us they werent ready yet when we asked. On top of that my order was wrong. These guys can not handle being somewhat busy at all.
We went on a Saturday afternoon and there was barely anyone in there (probably because it was the Rochester Ribfest). The waitress was amazing. Very friendly and helpful. She made some recommendations for appetizers and drinks which were really good. However, the main courses were very disappointing. The pulled pork lacked any smoky flavor and was dry. The brisket came out with huge hunks of fat still attached (most of my husbands serving of brisket was fat) and the chicken drumstick was desiccated and inedible. Evidently they had run out of corn bread and were baking more and the waitress was very apologetic about it.Now for the good: The ribs were delicious and perfect, the appetizer chicken drumsticks were juicy and flavorful and the catfish strips were amazing as were all the dipping sauces served with the appetizers.Perhaps it was the time of day we went or because of the ribfest, but I dont believe we will be in any hurry to go back.
Dont eat there. This was the most disgusting meal Ive ever had. This sandwich had me gagging. This chicken sandwich was fried in old old. Mac an cheese was tasteless and dry. Even the chips were awful. They forgot my sauce. Worse ever. Edit- I told them no lettuce or tomatoes.
My family and I had the displeasure of sampling the meals at sticky soul. The pork chop and Mac and cheese were unseasoned. The yams were so dark and old I could not eat them. The staff are in front of customers in between taking orders at the register. The food and service were absolutely horrible.
I hear employee complaining about the food I ordered! Right in front of me standing there using profanity throwing stuff slamming things. Then hear that they just started making the dish I ordered. Also sitting here for 20 min past my pick up time. Please let me also add that after waiting for my food for almost 40 min past my pick up time they didn’t even make what I ordered!!!!! Just threw a piece of chicken in there on top of rice with a side of gravy! Also they snap on customers about coming in on there pick up times telling them did you receive a text saying it was done. When you order through toast tab it doesn’t tell you to wait for a text it tells like 30 min! Place is ridiculous!
My first time at this location and I was expecting something great but the food was ok. Ive had better barbeque at other places. The corn bread is the best though but the mac and cheese needs some work. This location is very clean and the staff is very helpful. The place is unique on the inside but I didnt care for the old music from the 30s and 40s which makes me want to have my food for takeout, but thats my opinion. Overall I would go back and try the other items on the menu.
Went there excited to try it. Arrived at 430 on a Friday and lots of to go orders were waiting to be picked up, smelled great! My wife and I ordered and waited to eat there. Food looked good on the plates, but heres where the story changed:-Meats were room temp at best or just plain cold.-Jerk chicken had ZERO spice or flavor, also room temp and not hot.-Sides were warmer than meats but not by much.Halfway thru my meal it occured to me that I had ordered burnt ends and had gotten beef instead. Also noted mac and cheese side was served instead of mac salad. Order slip was correct, but the food served was not. Decided at that point to just eat it anyway.Have to say the banana pudding was fantastic, though.Overall, very very disappointed with cold food and incorrect order. The original Sticky Lips BBQ joint nails it any time I go there...this place was a big miss on the first visit.
Changed menu, no table service and no heat. They turned the heaters on well into our meal so it was probably warm as toast after we left. Also, the jerk chicken should be tender and falling off the bone. Worst weve had. Not much jerk flavor either. Greens and cheesy grits were too salty and with the cold room all the food was cold.
It’s hard to find a soul / bbq place that serves vegetarian dishes but this place does!! And bonus, everything is DELICIOUS. Seriously so good. We’ve only ever done take out because of COVID but I’ve stopped to pick up our meals and my only comment would be that parking is challenging. The food though is totally worth it!
The food here is INCREDIBLE! By far better than dinosaur (sorry 🤷🏻♀️). We had fried chicken and pulled pork - everything and all sides were perfect. The sauce on the pulled pork was delicious, Mac and cheese was real baked Mac and cheese, cornbread was so good! Such a great experience, we will definitely order again!
Horrible food pulled pork has minimum sauce no seasoning jerk chicken look like jerk sauce was thrown on it. Yams smashed no taste rice was burnt with beans also burnt cabbage was horrible very oily and over cooked. This is not how you serve a dinner and charge someone 42+ never worth it more like $3 meals everything was HORRIBLE DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY. YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED
Just ordered some pork shoulder, definitely needs more flavor it was very bland, Mac & cheese ok, and the cornbread seems to be somewhat undercooked & flavorless as well. It was just ok. I don’t know what happened, but their food use to be amazing! Now it’s just bland & rushed it seems.
I have only ordered the fried chicken and its down right delicious but sadly they have forgotten my Over priced sides EVERY single time I have ordered. I call and complained last time and they said they would be better and yet it happened again last night. The food is amazing but I can honestly say of the 5 to 7 times we have ordered I have always had to share my wife’s Mac and cheese which as you can imagine thrills her.
Had the fried chicken with rice and cajiun fries. The fried chicken was some of the best fried chicken Ive ever had. Now personally I dont like the rice too much due to how hard it tends to be, but maybe its just the style of rice which is why its 4 stars. Other than the rice, the food was amazing and Im looking to go back and try the meat loaf.
The House burger is really good! The fried chicken sandwich is delicious! The sticky shrimp are so good!.The only issue is the fried pickles. The batter is weird and doesnt cover the pickle, falls off. And they were cold:/ been a couple times when we have come to pick up our food were something was forgotten as well. Fried pickles need work though
This place is amazing. I used to go there when it was sticky lips. It has improved so much. I got some fried chicken, pulled pork, and jerk chicken. Portions were huge and everything tasted bomb. Highly recommend. Please eat at sticky soul best soul food in rochester they deserve like 1000 ribbons.
We ordered from this restaurant for the first time and will definitely go back. The Carribean Fish Curry was amazing. Great flavor sweetened by the mango salsa made for a most enjoyable dinner. The shrimp appetizer was cooked to perfection with some heat but not enough to be overpowering. Try it - just amazing.
Got takeout because thats all we can do during this trying time. The fried chicken was amazing. Crisp skin with juicy delicious meat cooked to perfection. The southern potato salad was awesome, huge chunks of potato with delicious dressing. Cracked cream corn was very creamy and had delicious flavor. Baked beans had amazing flavor. The owner was there manning the front of the house, had a great conversation with him. He threw in a cherry cake desert that was so creamy and moist, it was delicious. If you need takeout or delivery, hit this place up, support your locals who are buying local. We can all get through this working together. I will be back.
We placed a GrubHub order. The half rack of ribs were cooked to perfection, cabbage and bacon were spot on and delicious. My grilled jerk chicken was absolutely amazing. Juicy and grilled to perfection. My wife got fried chicken and said it was amazing, crispy skin and juicy meat. Great job. We tried here on a wim and will definitely be repeat customers.
We were so sad when this location closed. We went there often.I think they might be getting things together a bit. When this restaurant re-opened under the new name it was a bit chaotic ordering and picking up the food. The food was always really good. The last few times we have been in the staff is working as a team. It was a much smoother transaction.
Definitely wont spend a found penny here. The original ICON should sue this place for using a part of their name. Food was uncooked , yet charred....how in h#ll ?? The sweet bbq chicken lost its flavor long before it reached the oversized styrofoam container. Go a block north, order a $5.99 pasta bowl from Dominos...you most likely will be content. Never again !
EXCELLENT food for soul AND the stomach. I didnt have a 4th of July meal planned, nor a place to go but my ribs and burnt ends made this years holiday seem I was right at the beach! Only thing missing was the sand. Great and GrubHubs delivery was the fastest and best delivery Ive ever had. Super service all around. My first time and looking for many more to come.
We order from here alot, the food is really, really good, untill last night,I got a collard bowl,I dont know if there is a different cook, the rice was not cooked all the way, it was still hard and the collard greens were not washed properly, they were gritty,I was crunching on dirt pieces. I was so disappointed 😞.
My wife and I went there for dinner. She ordered a frozen drink off of the menu and was informed they didnt have a blender. She then ordered the nachos for an appetizer and was informed they didnt have any sour cream.I ordered the Jambalaya for dinner and was informed after our appetizers that they didnt have any jambalaya left. How do you as a restaurant wait that long before telling the customer, sorry but we are out of what you ordered.Waitress apologized but No follow up from manager.Atmosphere was good, but a very disappointing dining experience overall.
I missed sticky lips so much when they closed in 2018. But what took its place is just as good! Not a single thing I ordered was bad. Some of the best BBQ Ive had in such a long time. And its locally owned! I will be coming back here for as long as they stay in business
I normally never complain about restaurants but I was so disappointed this time around. Me and my boyfriend went here today and I got the jambalaya meal. The dish overall was terrible, I don’t know if it just wasn’t seasoned to my liking or if the meat was bad but it tasted so bad and the scallops were over cooked. Luckily I got Mac N Cheese and fries on the side otherwise I’d have nothing to eat. The inside of the cornbread was good, it was a little burnt on the bottom & I didn’t like the sweet glaze on top. My boyfriend got the pulled pork and brisket which had barely any sauce put on it. The briskets flavor was good though. Thankfully my boyfriend is like a garbage disposal and literally eats anything so we got the jambalaya to go so he could eat it later. We had no issues with our waitress, she was very nice and got everything out to us very quickly. Just kinda sad about the jambalaya. I guess I was expecting something spicy and all I tasted was an odd lemony flavor.
Was pleasantly surprised at the plethora and variety on the menu! Wow! Only eaten here a couple times, and will have to return many, many times before I can give a full review of all their food. But love their sides, especially the collards and the home made mashed potatoes. And the drumsticks on the appetizer menu were more than ample for lunch. The ribs and brisket here are amazing, too! Really dont need the extra sauces available on your table, but order extra cornbread and dip it if you dont want to miss out!
Loved the dinner. Had a rib dinner. The cherry bomb bbq sauce was great. There r other options for sauce & two sides for a good price. The server was warm & friendly. Also we were told there would be 15 min wait & were taken in about 5 min to be seated. Dinner (after ordering) came in about 5 min. Nice ambience. We will go again for sure.
My food was great (rice bowl with chicken) but the service was incredibly lacking (the woman was pleasant enough but once of the most inept servers Ive ever encountered) and both of my companions meals were lacking major ingredients listed on the menu. It was disappointing and frustrating. In fact they both had multiple unresolved issues with their food. It was the first and only time out of many visits that Ive had a bad experience. This visit was on a Wednesday afternoon in early September.
Been to this location several times and this time was disappointing. It was a slow evening, not busy at all. Out of mashed potatoes and mac and cheese, which three people at the table ordered. It took 40+ minutes for our food on slow night. Tomato cucumber salad was bland. My brisket sandwich was missing an ingredient. Overall, the food tasted good, but not as good as previous visits. Would give two stars based on this one visit, but decided three taking into account previous visits.
How can a BBQ place run out of ribs in the middle of the Saturday? I went with a bunch of friends and all agreed the service we got was pretty sub par from an attitude waitress that also runs the bar. She has no sense of what a good service should be and what a good waiting should be. Ok food part: Now we have chicken. It was dry. The corn bread was dry. Fries were pretty good to be honest. That’s it. Not coming back here.
The atmosphere is wonderful! When we first got seated upstairs, we sat there 20 minutes at least and nobody came over. There were 3 servers standing around the fountain machine just talking. Theyd even glance over and then continue talking! There was only one other table on our half of the upstairs and they had already cashed them out. Absolutely uncalled for! I went downstairs to the hostess who was very accommodating and moved us to the other half of the upstairs where none of those servers were working and the service was great. The food was wonderful and the entertainment was fantastic. So, due to those servers who dont appreciate having a job, I can regretfully only give you 3 stars.
This place is a joke. The owner... I am assuming ...running the pass... Was rude and annoying. She was touching food bare handedShe was belittling to her front of store staff memberShe was rude to another delivery driverAnd she was making totally unprofessional remarks about the customer on the phone. My order pickup was delayed 12 minutes because of a total lack of professionalism
I would have given it 5 stars but we waited over 40 minutes before someone even came over to get our drink orders. However, once I talked to someone, the manager came over. She was great and waited on us. Food was prompt (once we finally ordered) and delicious. The live music was awesome.
I had the sampler plate. Excellent. Catfish strips excellent, chicken legs excellent, pig wings were just short ribs, but very good, deep fried pickles excellent, cornbread good, French fries good. My wife had pulled pork plate which was good. The only negative was the slaw, I think they forgot to season it.
This rating does not reflect the bartender/waitress . She did an awesome job and very friendly !! That being said , the food is at least consistent...that is consistently bad. The wings were tough to chew and the catfish was tasteless , probably due to all the batter. Now for the side dishes ... The corn bread was moist and crispy, Delicious !! As for the rice and black beans , also Delicious !! I recommend drinks only and somewhere else to eat.
The last time I visited Sticky Lip was 10 years ago. It was a great place.Having moved back to town, dining out there was on my bucket list. What a disappointment. A 45 minute wait with no place to sit start off my experience. Another 30 minutes before the food was served. Everything was cold ... from the beef brisket to the pulled pork to the beans and fries. The fat on the beef comprised most of course. The corn bread tasted like it was days old. Without any alcohol, the tab for two was almost $60. Famous Daves serves a better meal for significantly less. Never going back to Sticky lips.
Food was amazing-even better than Dinosaur BBQ. Went for Saturday late lunch, was impressed with the quality of the food and our server. The restaurant was understaffed, so there was a bit of a wait but it was totally worth it. Highly recommend the cheese grits (best Ive ever had, South included) and the chicken. Fantastic!
First time customer at this site, the site of the original Sticky Lips. Had an impromptu supper before the theater. Quickly seated. After telling the waiter we had limited time, we were served quickly. Ordered the appetizer plate, and the wings; both were delicious. A mistake in selection on appetizer plate, but it was ok, as all were delicious. the wings were extraordinary: tasty and very meaty, although sloppy. What do expect at a Barbecue joint?
Now visited both locations. Both times we waited over ten minutes for a hostess to seat us; if its seat your self they need a sign but I dont believe thats the case. After being seated we felt neglected by our server. Food was just ok, I dont think I will be going back. I will say this though, the environment is very cool, it looks like a great place to catch some live music.
We walked in and there was no hostess at the desk so we walked farther to another desk, at which there was no hostess, but after only about a minute a blonde woman came up and seated us. Once we were seated we waited maybe 10 minutes before a waitress talked to us as well as the table across from us where a party of 7 was still waiting there with no drinks, once acknowledged the waitress served us right away and was nice, then an older waitress served us our drinks and when one of the people in our party of 5 asked for a straw, she shook her head and walked away. The waitress was not very attentive at all, I would need to flag a waitress down if I wanted more to drink. The crispy fries were delicious, and I personally loved the Mac and cheese. The rest of the food was alright. Overall my table agreed Sticky Lips should be rated a 4/10 hence the 2 star review.
Great BBQ food at a reasonable price and a very extensive menu. A little crowded inside but cozy atmosphere. Take your food to go and walk around 2 the other side of the building where you can put up with some delicious beer at the Lost borough Brewing Company. I only say that because I am a big fan of draft beer and Sticky Lips has nothing on tap.
I had Sticky Lips tonight after not having been there in a while and the food was not good at all. My pulled pork was tough, crispy on the edges of the meat, greasy and flavorless. The fries didnt taste right either. What a shame this place used to serve great food when they first opened but not any more. I wont be going back. If you want great BBQ stick to Dinosaur.
We have gone here every year, year after year, for many years. This is the best place in the area to go for bbq chicken. The meat cooked to perfection; only ONCE was it ever undercooked. Their sweet potato fries are heavenly, and their corn bread is equally dreamy. We were so sad to learn that this location has closed. Lots of good memories, and great chicken dinners will be remembered.
We were exhausted after a crazy day. We got take out. The woman greeting us was sweet, understood that we just wanted to go home and offered us a beverage while we waited. Even when something went wrong with a different order, she kept her composure and treated everyone waiting with respect. The food was great even though we took it home!
I definitely have to say that great changes have been made here since my last review which was quite a while ago. The food was excellent and the staff was extremely friendly and everyone was working together, it was nice to see them all happy. The live band was great and even a group of ladies got up and where dancing.
This is what I have experienced today. Called ahead to get a table but unfortunately they dont do reservations. Showed up at the door at 5 and requested a table for five and two kids. 3 friends were running late so I was denied a table until all were there. Fine we waited finally got a seat and got drinks. Table behind me ordered then I ordered, our orders were put in at the same time. At around 6:30 I asked where was my appetizer it was brought in next 10 minutes cold. Did not touch it. Was not exited about food either when I saw table next to me finishing their meal. After all did not pay for beers drank or food and manager packed 3 dishes to go as complimentary. Will try sticky lips again but other location for sure.
One of my favorite gems of Rochester! The original sticky lips looks amazing. The new vegitarian menus looks fantastic, the black bean burger is still my absolute favorite. I recommend adding a little cherry bomb sweet sauce to it! (And always go for the Mac and cheese)Our waitress Heather was fantastic!! She was super friendly and nice. Very attentive, she came over to make sure the order was correct and of quality. She made sure out drinks never hit the bottom of the glass😂. Definitely ask for her when you come in!Always a fun place to bring out of towners for music and laughs!
Sticky Lips has good to sometimes great food. However - they are constantly understaffed at the Culver Rd location. A lot of people in Sticky Lips t-shirts and only one or two of them actually work the tables. Our waitress was working pretty darn hard and naturally we left her a good tip - but she wasnt getting any help. It took about 15 minutes to get a glass of water.Wed order 2 drinks at a time because we knew she wasnt coming back anytime soon.Good food, nice prices - but you guys need to work on your staffing.
My entire dinner was disgusting! I had the pulled pork and brisket in a dinner with sides mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy, and greens. All bland and mediocre, but the greens seemed like maybe barbecue sauce was poured into them, lacked any flavor, and they were tough to chew. I cook souls food myself, and I know what Im talking about. Besides, just because ONE lady raved about the greens does not mean they are good. I had been coming there for over ten years, like back when the strawberry cake was there, and it seemed people cared abut the food. I brought relatives there when they were visiting. The prices have gone up while the portion sizes and food have declined. I even have pictures of an undercooked catfish fish dinner from Valentines day 2013. Whoever makes the greens... just.... NO! You should be fired.
As a table of six, and a family of past restaurateurs, cooks, servers and about everything inbetween, tonight was sadly disappointing. I’ve grown up coming here and have become accustomed to a certain expectation. I live out of state and personally requested to come here with my all-local family. It appears the quality of staff, hospitality and food quality has plummeted. I truly, truly hope this was an off night. I used to adore coming here. I recall the owner being a kind, jovial man who took pride in all his tables and I assume he still is! Food took 1.5 hours to get to our table and the restaurant was hardly packed for a Saturday evening. Food was not of the same quality in which we once knew. I only wrote this in hopes that either management is able to rectify a situation that could cause a beloved restaurant to slip through the cracks. We all agreed had this been a table of ours in one of our restaurants, management should have approached the table to intervene after a table waited over and hour and a half for their food. No fault at all to our new-to-sticky-lips Waitor, however, a direct reflection on management doing a poor job in their inability to intervene in a clearly unsatisfactory situation. Sincere hopes that the C Team was working these evening and Sticky Lips can return to its former glory.P.S. We all cried that our (once beloved) cornbread was burnt *photo for evidence*
Sadly, not great barbeque. The pulled pork was dry and almost flavorless. The brisket tasted good, but was cold, dry and had an unpleasant texture. The ribs were OK--nothing exciting, but good enough. The sides, well, the sides were nothing short of a disappointment, with the exception of the corn bread, which was the first to disappear. Over all, I might have been more forgiving if I had sampled some of this at rib burn-off, where I could find something else I liked more, but for a dinner, Im not impressed.
Most people probably read this for reviews on the food, so let me start with that. The “best item on the menu” according to the manager, was the Mr. Wallace friend chicken, which I ordered. This chicken itself was decent, but every side that came with it was poor, and the corn bread was terrible. That being said, the reason I gave this place one star is because they showed blatant signs of sexism and racism. I came to this restaurant with a men’s and women’s sports team, and all the tables were mixed between men and women. After ordering, the waitress brought out all of the females food over 20 minutes before the males at the same tables, leaving them to watch the females finish their meals before they could start their own. When the food for the men finally came out, it was cold and had blatantly been left out, so that the males could not eat when it was ready. It gets worse. After the food for the males came out, there were only two people in the entire team/staff that did not get their food. Those two people “happened” to be the only two African American male members of the team. Their food came over 10 minutes later than the rest of the team, and after the checks were being served for everyone to leave. This type of service is anything but coincidental, and more of a blatantly sign of both sexism and racism. It is absurd that prejudice like this can still exist in 2018.
The food is tasty, but it seems every time I go the service is pretty slow. Last time I was there with a party of 3, it took almost an hour to get food and when we did it was lukewarm at best. The server was willing to make things right however, without the need to call over a manager. So I cant fault them on their customer service.
Ive been here a few times and if I had to describe their BBQ, I would use dry, tough, and lacking in flavor. Sides are good, but the main courses are terrible. They also seem to even have difficulty toasting bread: not a single time have I had a piece that wasnt char black. This may be the original sticky lips, but Henrietta has the good sticky lips.
Its been awhile since weve been here and theyve made a lot of changes and the place looks great. However they could have used somebody at the hostess station because when we came in we had to walk into the bar area before we were noticed to be seated. Also its a little confusing because now you can enter from the back and again theres no Hostess station at that section so people just walk in and wait for either the bartender or some other staff person to seat them. Maybe it was the time of the day or the day of the week that they didnt have a person there but it seems a little crazy to have one person running like a chicken handling that stuff. The food was great as always maybe next time well come on a different night maybe when theres some music.
Food was good. Service would have been better if our waitress had not been pulled away for a large group just after submitting our order. The staff that took over never checked to see how we were doing or to even tell us why she had disappeared. That would have been nice to know. We only found out when she came back to give us the check.
I’ve been to Sticky Lips in the past and enjoyed it. As a vegan, I love that they have a vegetarian bbq menu! It’s made me choose them over dinosaur bbq more than once. BUT...epic story of massive disappointing failure happened there tonight! First, we waited for longer than we should to be seated while the only human working downstairs (including all tables AND the bar) got around to us. She was understandably rushed and sort of dismissive. She practically threw our menus at us as she took phone calls and ran from table to bar to table. She finally returned about 10 min later to ask what we wanted to drink, at which point we had to request a beer list. Eventually we got drinks and ordered food. I ordered the meatless loaf from the veggie menu, which sounded delicious! About ten min later, the waitress returned to tell me they were out of the meatless loaf...and EVERY SINGLE OTHER THING on the vegetarian menu! They have signage out front advertising their vegetarian bbq proudly. We stayed to have an appetizer we had ordered and our beers, cancelled my husband’s order and left...only after hearing they were all out of corn bread! Isn’t that a bbq staple? Terribly disappointed. Especially after last week we were turned away when arriving a full half hour before close. They don’t want our business. That much is clear.
I successfully placed an order online and even received a text message that my order is ready but then received a voicemail that the restaurant is closing early so they wouldnt be able to fill my order. This is not the first time that Ive been charged and not gotten my order but it will be my last.
The food is good. The new addition theyve added is fantastic. Unfortunately, I dont think there training their wait staff receives is adequate. Something has definitely broken with the process when table after table waits 20 or more minutes between arriving, placing drink orders and receiving food. We eat here every Fathers day and have seen things decline over the years. Today we came in at 12:30 and at the time of this writing (1:40) have not even received our appetizers. 15 minutes after we placed our food order, out waitress came to tell us they were out of chicken fingers. 5 of our 11 meals were for chicken fingers! There is no excuse for running out of this staple. Do they have chicken cutlets? Flour? Chefs? These are not hard things to make. Sadly I think we need to find a new tradition for next Fathers day. Update: finally got our food at 2:20. We did speak to a manager, she told us that some of our orders took longer than others to cook and our ticket had only been put in 45 minutes ago. This was an hour and 20 minutes after we had arrived. During this time we were offered a complimentary basket of corn bread, for our patience. I said theyre going to have to do a lot better than corn bread since weve been waiting nearly two hours for our food. When all was said and done they offered us no discount off of our check, but only offered us appetizer coupons for the next time we visited. We explicitly stated that we would never be back and could we get a discount off of our check, the answer was no. We will not be coming back.
We wont be back!! Weve enjoyed coming to Sticky Lips as a Fathers Day tradition for many years. Today, my burger was delicious, but the service was painfully slow. Another family, who arrived after our order was placed, received their food before us. After over an hour of waiting, the waitress said the kitchen lost our ticket, which is unacceptable. Two of our childrens orders had to be cancelled because the restaurant ran out of chicken fingers (?!) and another childs order was forgotten. The macaroni and cheese was dry, the chips were burnt, and we ended up driving through Sonic on the way home.
Awful. We went on a Thursday night. The place was not really packed but the service was so slow. Not sure if they were short staffed or what but waiting 15 minutes before someone came to get our drink order is crazy. After we got our drinks it was probably another ten minutes until we ordered. Then the food took forever. We finished eating and our waitress was nowhere in sight, I had to go hunt her down to get the check and some boxes since we had been there for almost two hours at this point and I was over it. Definitely will not go back. The food is ok but does not make up for that terrible service.
The service and food are hit-or-miss. I have had delicious food with wonderful service. I have also received a burnt, dried-out chicken sandwich with a bone in it after waiting an hour in the restaurant for an order I called in. It has so much potential, but not consistent.
Its my birthday today, wanted to have a nice dinner. Wasted my time and money at Sticky Lips on Culver. I ordered an1/2 rack platter saidIt came with 3 sides, I ordered 2 and they charged me forThe sides on top of the platter. The first two ribs were good the rest was a dried out piece of leather. My sons veggie burger tasted like mold and dirt. We sent it back , he said the French fries were discussing and did not reorder. First and last time , never again will we go there. WeOrder an app of bacon mac and cheese, it was dry and cold. Happy birthday to me you suck Stickey Lips, backToThe Dinosaur where the food is good and the service rocks.
Very tasty. But overpriced. Understaffed with under-trained staff, all of which was painfully obvious. The food runner from the kitchen had to ask the bartender(who in turn had 1 month of experience) which plate was which when he brought my buddy and me our food. I wont hurry back if I go.
Great food, authentic barbeque, good variety of sauces, meats, side dishes, excellent music, nice stage, PA system sounds good, not too loud for the size of the room. Free parking in a well lit lot. Reasonable cover charge for a good band. Highly recommend it, whether you are in town or from out of town.
Sometimes you just dont want your ribs dripping with BBQ sauce and I love that Sticky Lips offers the dry rub ribs. This is in my opinion the single thing that gives them a leg up over other BBQ places in Rochester. They significantly lose points however in regards to their side dishes. They are small in portion and do not have very much wow factor. Overall the atmosphere there is what you would expect a BBQ joint to be.
Sticky Lips is one of my favorite restaurants in Rochester. They might not be as popular as Dinosaur, but the food is good and you never have to wait as long. Also, I firmly believe that they have the best garbage plate in town. The choices available on the menu are almost overwhelming, and Ive only had one or two dishes that were not superb. They have an assortment of barbecue sauces that they create for just about any palate. Also, the chorizo cheddar grits are out of this world!
Nice restaurant but their food challenge is odd. My boyfriend attempted the challenge and the platter was well... over what they claim! Even after my boyfriend ate 1/3 of the food we went home and weighed what was left; there was still over 5 lbs of food left! Truly false advertising for their food challenge. In a short phrase dont waste your money on the food challenge, youre already set up for failure. Otherwise the food was not too bad. The atmosphere is fun and cute.
I tried to order a meal for my family and I was told I need to give 24 hour notice. You’re not serious. How as an establishment are you requiring a first time customer who had no idea of that “policy” that they can’t order a family meal unless it’s 24 hours notice. That has to be the dumbest most absurd thing I have ever heard.
My girlfriend is a vegetarian so it never occurred to me to go here with her. I asked to go here for my birthday thinking at least she could eat the sides. Found out they have a LARGE selection of vegetarian BBQ main dishes. She liked them as well. Now I can ask to go for BBQ with her.
Took my best friend/sister out for a girls night. She wanted BBQ so I suggested Sticky Lips, what a mistake. The food was cold and we had other plans, so didnt have time for them to remake our food. After we left, she got sick to her stomach that night and my stomach was sick the next day. I was so disappointed and will not go there again or recommend it to anyone else. My advice, be careful going here.
So Good!! Not getting into the Dinosaur BBQ vs Sticky Lips debate, but I will say the original location on Culver Rd is much better than their newer location in food quality. Maybe its because the location is smaller, so the kitchen can spend a little more time getting it just right.
Waitress was o.k., nothing outstanding though. Foods was awful! There were 7 in our party and we were there to celebrate a birthday. Not one person in our group would ever go back! Absolutely the worst food I have ever experienced and would not recommend it to anyone unless you want to waste your money!
We ordered ribs online, got a text message that the order was ready and when I picked it up, I was told that they ran out of ribs and they could not fulfill my order. No remedy was offered. Unfortunately, the dysfunction of the old place has transferred to the new place. Very disappointing, will not be going back.
BBQ is good when the order is correct. Once ordered the food comes out fast. There is always a problem with the order. Either something is missing, forgotten item, or needs to be sent back. They dont really understand the idea of compensation when they make mistakes. I keep giving them a chance because someone in the party demands to go. I should just start demanding that we dont.
Food was great! It was a little busy so my service was not great! Forgot a few things (2 pieces of corn bread) but server never came back till the table till I was all finished, no refill on drink either :/ will go back though, might have needed another server on for a Saturday around 4! I was forgotten after my food was served.
Since the expansion, service has gotten slow. The food is still amazing, dont get me wrong. I will be going back. However, they need to hire more staff or at least acknowledge to their customers (who are used to fast and excellent service) that service might be slower than normal.
Was planning to go to the big Bbq for my husbands bday, but it was a two hour wait when we got there....went online and discovered Sticky Lips. So glad, the food was awesome! Staff were super polite and worked hard to keep things moving along. I am impressed and from now on we will make the 100 mile trip to Sticky Lips instead of those other guys.
Ive never been in a place where I was sitting at the bar buying drinks and waiting for a table for dinner, when someone comes up and asks for $ if were going to stay to hear the band... what?!? I had already been there for about an hour at that point. If youre going to change a cover for the band, then charge at the door, like everywhere else. That was just bizarre. Food was mediocre...Dino is much better.
Dont have them cater any event ever. They will show up an hour and a half late. They wont care that they are late. They will act like its not a big deal. They also take forever to serve the food. By the time the last table was in line for the buffet the first several tables were done eating. The chicken was an odd orange color, and very dry.
Just got back from lunch,at henrietta sticky lips. Wasnt busy but had slow service. Ordered burger med well came back med rare, and was cold. Waitress apologized, wanted me to order something else, but by that time my friends would be done. Manager was informed by waitress but NEVER came to my table. NEVER again, for me or my friends.
Great food served in a juke joint. The barbecue flavor is present in both the meat and vegetarian options. Offerring seasonal options among a sizeable list of sides assures freshness. All the food has flavor.A full bar with lots of soda pop options in addition to alcoholic ones is bound to keep everyone satisfied. For a change of pace, try the Sunday Gospel Brunch buffet, or enjoy any of the other live performances during dinner.Truly a diamond in the ROC.
Went to see a band here on a Saturday night and it took 35 yo get a drink at the bar. Tgey had only one bartender who tried her hardest to keep up but it was impossible for her. Dirty bar glasses pilled up on the bar. I have never seen a resturant where servers were behind the bar making there own drinks. I watched some servers under pour liqure and some way over pour. We meet friends there who had dinner and they said they waited over an hour for there food witch was nothing spectacular. There were alot of people annoyed with how long the wait was for everything . The place was a hot mess!
We were very excited to go here since they advertised vegetarian bbq.Pros: great burger, excellent fries if warm.Cons: Our waitress Sharon was inattentive, rude and curt. Forgot to tell us that the gravy had meat so she just sent mashed potatoes with no gravy without giving us an option. The burger was made with only 1 tomato, so when asked for another tomato we were brought an unripe cut of tomato.Tofu steak was made with Medium tofu instead of firm, had no soluble texture, was mush in the sauce and then undercooked. They forgot to bring our macaroni and cheese. And all of this took forever to fix because Sharon (our waitress) was nowhere to be found.
Cheese gritts are the best thing on the menu. Always takes forever to get my pick up orders. Every time. Shotty customer service. Bbq is ok at best. Usually dry unless slathered in sauce. Not authentic in my eyes. Not many great smoke houses around here. Too bad theyre one of the better ones. Yup
If you like bald eagles, American flags, freedom, George Washington, the constitution, the 1980 Olympic hockey team, Michael Jordan, Bruce Springsteen, Rock & Roll music, the Ford Model-T, Disney World, Babe Ruth, democracy, the moon landing and being the greatest country on the planet... then you will LOVE Sticky Lips.Seriously though. Best bbq in town, you always get a ton of food for a very good price, the service is excellent and the food is always fresh. Plus they were featured on Man Vs Food, see if you can complete their challenge!!
Forget about the reptiles, whenever I am in Rochester I make a concerted effort to have lunch or dinner at Sticky Lips Pit BBQ, and I definitely have a preference for Culver Road. I have never had a meal let me down here, always a delightful experience for my BBQ fix.
Worst service ever. Our server was there 3 times once for drinks once for our order and last to drop the bill. The owner was wiping tables and never stopped to ask how everything was when the service was obviously poor. There was a 20 top next to us that walked out. BBQ was mediocre at best.
We came in a little over an go hour before closing. All condiments were off of tables, they were sweeping around us and putting chairs on tables. They were out of macaroni and cheese. Our order came out in two minutes, all soggy, obviously not made to order. The plate was soaked with something which made the fries gross and soggy. We were so hungry when we arrived there and I as pissed when we left. Terrible experience.
Had lunch there and none of the protein was fresh made. Everything as pre cooked leftover. If I wanted microwaved leftovers I could have stayed home and gotten it out of the fridge. BBQ chicken, ribs, pulled pork, briskest, tried them all and all crap pre cooked stale and dry as shoe soles.
Sticky Lips is the hidden culinary gem of Rochester. Snugged away downtown and easy to walk right past, stepping inside is like an unfolding adventure of awesome. Amazing vintage WWII era decor and friendly, competent service set the tone, but where Sticky Lips really shines is exactly where it should - the food. Probably the best pulled pork Ive ever had, accompanied by phenomonal sweet potato fries and cornbread. Hewing close to Rochesters progressive roots, Sticky Lips even offers an extensive vegetarian menu - yes, vegetarian BBQ. If you have just one chance to eat in Rochester, it ought to be a garbage plate, and Sticky Lips offers their own unique take on this Rochester tradition as well. Sticky Lips is the king of Rochester dining.
This place was not handicapped accessible. I hated having to climb upstairs to use the restroom. The food was not good and the service was lousy!I am not recommending this place to any of my disabled friends or anyone who expects to get the food theyve ordered! I would give it a - 10 rating if your website allowed it.

2022-05-16Was visiting town and craved some good BBQ. The food was amazing and delicious. The staff was unbelievably kind and accommodating and made sure we were taken care of. One of our items were unavailable and they made sure we had something yummy to have instead. The people at Sticky Soul are incredibly hard workers and deserve much love and praise. Happy to meet the wonderful community of Rochester, and Sticky Soul was no different. Thank you for the fantastic experience and we hope to come back again.

2021-08-21My wife and I placed an order for pickup and upon getting the meal home, we discovered the most beautiful Fried Chicken weve ever seen and dove in and it tasted as good as it looked! As my wife just pointed out, their sign does not lie, they really do have the best fried chicken! They were very kind and courteous and fast! We will be making more trips back there just for the fried chicken!

2022-02-12After being told I could not have pulled pork as a side or an add-on even though it’s on the menu in four places and willing to overpay, I was still good enough to order something. After that I got home and found a huge ham hock skin in my order which is inedible. I was dismissed out of hand. This restaurant has a track record of bad business practices Too. Donezo! This was the first time I have felt it necessary to post a review just to make it clear how bad this experience was for less than $10 of an order.

2022-06-12We have gotten take out several times from this place and the food has been very good. Tonight, it was good as usual, but we were disappointed to find that theyve reduced the number of sides on the ribs from two to one. The website menu says two sides and corn cake, but the online system lists only one side. We placed two orders for a half-slab of ribs each with a side of collard greens. We ordered two extra sides of slaw that totaled $6.00. We got about 1 cup of greens, and less than that of the slaw, for two people. Each were eaten in about 4-5 forkfuls. It was all very good, just a very small amount of slaw for 6 bucks. Based on previous meals, we had expected more greens as well.

2022-02-26We had a great experience here today! We were treated very well by the staff, going above and beyond for us. The food was all very good. I had the special - fried catfish, cheesy grits, and crayfish cream sauce. These are adventurous choices for me, and I really enjoyed them. I dont usually like grits, but those were so good! My Canadian husband had the poutine which had big melty cheese curds and just the right amount of gravy. Yum!

2022-01-09When this place first opened I tried it out and it was great. Well… unfortunately that is no longer the case.I ordered a 12 piece fried chicken with corn bread, sides of Mac & cheese, & mashed potatoes/gravy. First my order took 45 minutes longer than expected (ran out of chicken?).Mac & cheese was just ok as well the mashed & gravy. On my first visit the fried chicken was a variety of big, juicy, & hot pieces. No longer… pieces were very small - 1 breast, 2 thighs, rest were drum sticks & wings - wow even KFC gives you a better mix than that! The 2 cooks in the back - 1 was focused on the takeout orders and the other struggled with the chicken. Not to mention the dining room server kept on coming down to the takeout window to get items for upstairs.Pieces of chicken were way smaller this time and nowhere as good. The cashier was cool and gave me free desserts for my very long wait. But… that didn’t make up for everything - especially the awful chicken. After reading all of the bad reviews, this place should just close down unless they get back to how things were.

2022-04-06Im sorry to say I was not impressed with the food. The chicken had a funny texture & the collard greens(I think they were collards anyway) were really large and a little under cooked for me. I dont think Ill be going back, even with their $10 lunch special 😕 However the corn bread was really good, so thumbs up for that 😏

2022-06-24Great selection of soul food. The main dishes we had were good, although very very tiny portion of chicken with the chicken and waffles - that was disappointing. The side dishes were ok. Not happy about the price of the beer cans at $8, absolutely RIDICULOUS for this type of place. The dinner overall was expensive for what we got. For that reason, I wont be back. I would go back otherwise.
