Enjoy the food here and the atmosphere here. There French Toast was slamming and loved how cozy it was. Ordered the eggs on the side to get my daily delicious dose of protein 💪🏽 but I had to go without it since they never came to the table. But everything else was good :).
Cute and cozy little cafe. It’s very small, but they have wall shelf seating if you’re just having coffee. They also have a $5 egg and cheese on a brioche bun or bagel. Total for the items in the photos was $27 with tax and tip. Not too expensive, but not cheap for breakfast. The omelette was $12. Green tea latte was great. Get their melted butter for your toast and put a bit of salt on (so good).
Cozy little place, good for breakfast on the go. I find their breakfast sandwiches outrageously expensive compared to anywhere else in this specific neighborhood. Their avocado toast is actually very well priced, pretty huge and filling too. Employees are super friendly. All in all I do enjoy going here for breakfast or to grab a cup of coffee.
Went here on the recommendation of a friend and boy, am I glad I did! Cozy underground coffee shop and cafe. Great quality coffee with a couple of unique drinks, as well as tasty pastries.I’m quite picky about my coffee, and this place does it for me. There’s nothing more disappointing then getting a coffee/latte with a burnt taste, that you need to cover up with cream and sugar. I’ve also found that a lot of shops tend to be inconsistent, especially with different baristas or different times of day. Both times I went here, the coffee was good and that was with two different baristas. Score!Very good things to say about the lavender agave latte! I love it. My girlfriend had the caramel latte, which was also great. Tried the almond croissant which was very tasty as well. A touch too buttery for me, but overall, super delicious (and what you get a pastry for 😋).Pricing is normal for a coffee shop. Anywhere from $3.50-$5.00 for your cup. Definitely getting your worth here though! Will definitely keep returning here and recommend to others!#sugarhill #coffee #cafe #café #pastry #lavenderagavelatte #sugarhillcafe #underground #cozy
Although its a small place, food is amazing. Choose this based on google reviews.Visited for brunch around 11am. Was crowded.I had Sugar Hill Classic (Sunny Side Up) with Siam Basil Lemongrass Tea. - The tea was exceptional...!My husband had Ooo La Lai French Toast with Matcha Latte. We both enjoyed our selections.
Really quaint cafe with surprisingly good coffee, hard to find this far uptown. Beans are from Plowshares, but the level of care the shop puts into prep extends beyond their choice of Roaster. The batch brew is just as lovely as their signature espresso drinks. The staff is friendly and skilled, and the decor / outdoor seating make for a wonderful experience.
Sugar Hill Cafe is a great place to unwind, detox from the city and or start the day off with a smile! Pleasant, smart, courteous and unpretentious staff are the kind of people you want around not just in your cafe but in the world. The coffee is made with care, unlike on an assembly line (Starbucks etc) and devilishly delectable pastries. Overall the ambience is a treat, an oasis in an otherwise less than savory area.
The baristas here really know how to make a latte. Unfortunately, on my most recent visit they were having issues with their AC. It was a little hot and uncomfortable for me, but I think the worst thing is it was really hot for their employees who are stuck there all day. The barista who served me was anxious to be gone, was closing up early, and was pretty surly. I had been planning to meet a friend there, but that didnt work out because they were closing so soon. I should also mention that on other days Ive shown up before their opening hour of 9 a.m. (why so late!?) and theyve served me even though I was early, so thats a big plus. They definitely make some of the best coffee in this area, and if only their opening hours were a little bit more regular and you could count on them being open, this place would be one of my favorite places in Hamilton Heights.
Attentive and friendly staff, and the coffee was good. However, the food was too small for how costly it was and it was lacking flavor. It was one of the most disappointing omelettes I ever had. Also, the space is too small and it doesn’t really have a nice ambience. I would recommend just getting a coffee to go.
.Pros:(+) Rustic cozy little coffee shop(+) Free WiFi(+) Near the corner of the A, B, C, D train(+) Student discount(+) Punch card(+) Vegan optionsCons:(-) Breakfast options are not consistently available since they “run out” of items, like bagel and cream cheese in the morning.(-) Kitchen is in consistent. Some days they are open, some days they are closed early. Don’t depend on food always available here. Depend on coffee...and that’s what I come for.
I absolutely loved the food here and the staff were exceptionally nice but absolutely careless when I said I had an allergy to avocados. They said they just ran out and I “should be fine” but approximately 20-30 minutes after I had eaten part of their salad I still got sick and had to use my antihistamines and epipen. I wasn’t disappointed in the food by any means but I was certain they did not take the necessary precautions they were supposed to with food allergies. If I didn’t have this issue it would have easily been a 5 star experience and I would love to eat here again since I live so close. But I don’t think I can as a result of my own condition. I hope the workers and owner sees this review and is able to fix this sort of problem, as it seems a lot of New Yorkers have no idea what allergies actually do to people.Coffee was great, food was delicious- still had an allergic reaction to what was likely cutting board remnants, sadly. Luckily my reaction wasn’t bad enough to hospitalize me, but the staff need to be more careful.
This site is my number one site. Of all restaurants I know I love it most. I never miss an opportunity to go to this restaurant. when I I need a special supper, this place comes immediately to my mind. splendid and food and a rich menu.professional team, and agreeable mood. Also, the charge is affordable. I recommend this spot with no hesitation.
Coffee was less then tasty actually tasted flat and was not hot at all.. two minutes after sitting down to try to drink a not good coffee ..a lady comes up to the outdoor sitting and says the other door sitting closes in 5 minutes and within 2 minutes she is moving and dusting 2 feet away from me.. I will never go back..should be name sour hill. One star for lack of manners only because I cannot give zero stars.. attention managers..if you are selling bad tasting coffee atleast give patrons time to finish it.
Guys, you definitely need one more chef or smbd else in the kitchen. For easy things you have to wait 30min. It’s insane. Girls, pay more attention for your regulars and your neighbors. My husband ordered so many times over the phone. And always there is a mistake in order. Very sad.
I’m a coffee lover and there’s very little good coffee shops in the area that know their coffee craft, however, I was impressed with the quality of the coffee beans from Sugar Hill Café. The coffee is rich in flavor so if you’re looking for a great espresso shot or coffee drink I recommend it. I will be coming here often. Great place.
We ate at the Sugar Hill Cafe twice for breakfast/brunch. It was by far our favorite food spot during our trip. If we lived in the area we would be regulars! Its small but we were able to get a table both times. Interesting options for adults and our children. Good sized portions. Food and coffee were delicious. Staff were attentive and friendly. Highly recommend this special spot!
Food here is excellent, and not too pricey. Coffee comes with refills, and that is a big bonus. However, we waited for more than 20 minutes before our orders were taken and 45 before our food was served. It was not very busy. Moreover, the staff was so bad at their jobs to such an extent that it almost felt comical. They seemed to understand that they did a bad job though, so they gave us 10% off the price. Not sure if to rate it 1 or 5 stars, so Ill give them 3.
My friends and I came here for Breakfast early one morning. I was very impressed at the service and the food. The food tasted scrumptious, and the service was surprisingly fast with how busy they were at the time of our visit. One thing I would recommend is, be sure to come here early or as soon as they open if you want eat fast and get your food promptly after you order, as they do get very busy soon after they open up.
Ive walked by this place dozens of times and finally tried it out. Its the best!!! Iced mocha is delicious! The breakfast sandwich on croissant (ham n cheese or tuna, both yummy). And my favorite dish is the Avocado Mash- this yummy mash of avocado over toast (with or without smoked salmon) is not to be missed. A real gem in upper Harlem, especially if you like a place to sit and write or meet up with friends. Really earthy friendly staff. I cannot recommend this place highly enough!
Cute little cafe thats in the basement - cozy and warm with friendly staff. It would be a bit hard to find if not for the sandwich board right outside. Their iced latte was amazing and they give it to you in a stay cup if youre staying. Real cups are the best way to enjoy your beverage. Im intrigued by their homemade cookies, maybe next time!
This is my third time coming in this week! I had fallen in love. Awesome place! Great vibes... UNTIL this Asian guy who seems to be a manager of some sort went on a rant about “Asian people vs American people” when it comes to recycling. What a terrible thing to rant so negatively about in a shop full of people. He also made his co worker feel super uncomfortable but we appreciate very much how she handled it. Power to you women! ✊🏽 Definitely killed the good vibe. I probably won’t come in when he’s there anymore as that is not the energy I’m looking for with my morning coffee.
Quintessential NYC coffee shop. This is the type of local place that best helps combat gentrification. Great coffee and great people who work there. The charm and quality of this place can simply not be mass produced. Will definitely be a regular stop when Im in the neighborhood.Only nit would be wheelchair accessibility for those that need it, it located in the basement of a brownstone.
Coffee was good, the Bagel sandwich with scrambled eggs and cheese was not, there was barely any cheese in the eggs and as a whole it was just tasteless. Also, the manager (an Asian looking guy)was shouting at his staff, threatning to fire someone while the cafe was packed with customers. Very unprofessional!
Great mocha and delicious ham and cheese bagel. Best of all the service is wonderful. I came in for the open mic several days ago and when I came back to get food several days later my name was remembered and I was treated like a regular. Highly recommend this cool little spot.
This place is a hidden gem! The food is amazing (the avocado salmon mash was out of this world!!!!), the service is great and very friendly! I definitely recommend going! It was also Valentines Day so the girl working there made special little cupcakes which were so perfectly delicious.
Wonderful new cafe that opened up a couple weeks ago near the ABCD trains at 145 and a couple short blocks from my house and the #1 train! The decor is pretty on point with that of Chipped Cup, to the point of wondering if its owned by the same people. Either way, coffee is great, wifi is free, tea selection is pretty good and they have a small kitchen! When I spoke to the manager during their opening, he promised there would be a selection of vegan food so I cant wait for them to bring that out! Seating area is small, so be sure to grab one as soon as you can and enjoy the chill vibe =)
Wanted to taste the food however the service was horrible. No one greeted us when we came in. So we sat ourselves and waited for almost 15 minutes with still no service. Saw several other patrons that had their cleared dishes sitting on their tables. Didn’t even see anyone busing tables or bringing checks. Others looked a bit irritated as well. Not sure what their deal is, but we will never return.
@sugarhillcafe is the world’s most precious hidden gem... no lies. sunken below the streets of #HamiltonHeights this coffee shop is perfect for a low lit and super casual start to your morning. Sipping on my iced latte and waiting for my green omelette. Give it a try!
I stop there often on my way to CCNY and I like thier coffee but their crossaint (plain or chocolate) , cheese danish, muffins or cakes were all so disappointing. They didn’t seem fresh and every time I ended up throwing them in the trash after a few bites and the prices are not reasonable!
Coffee was good but their avocado toast (Avocado Mash with Salmon) was made with packaged guacamole not mashed fresh avocados. Obviously it was disgusting and the staffs response was simply thats just how we make it here. Is it not supposed to be with guacamole? Sigh.
I really wanted to like this place, but the cold brews we ordered were clearly not actual cold brew (rather, bitter iced coffee poured over an entire cup of ice), they were out of half the items on their breakfast menu, and the service was terrible. Would steer clear in the future.
First visit - great service at counter, solid sandwich and iced coffee led to productive work sessionSecond visit - waitress with glasses had terrible attitude and spoke very poor English, made me move multiple times, did her job like a robot, wasted my time preventing any productive work, walked out before ordering anythingLesson: many other local spots offer commoditized offerings, service is the differentiator

2022-01-10A chill vibe and good food is what you’ll find at this place. I had the peppermint mocha, cold brew, and the green omelette. I was extremely happy with the food. It had a perfect balance and was cooked just right. They have a decent cook. The coffee was smooth and had a nice flavour. The interior was cozy and unpretentious. The barista was humble and easy going. The price was standard and well worth it.

2021-07-25We loved it here! Came here for brunch and staff were really nice and everything came out quickly. French toast and drinks were awesome as well. It was pretty much at full capacity on a Sunday so it can be busy, but definitely worth stopping by if you’re in the area!

2022-05-01Decent food and nice cafe but totally unpredictable. Went in for brunch on a Sunday at 11am and was told the kitchen was closed indefinitely because the cook needed a break. Understandable and I can definitely synpathize, but very strange that they will shut down entirely during a busy brunch with no warning or estimated wait time. I do not blame the staff for this issue whatsoever; it points to a deeply dysfunctional business desperately in need of competent management. I hope they get things sorted out because I want to like this place.

2022-04-08I love the Sugar Hill Cafe! The underground coffee house vibe is immaculate. I regularly get an ice vanilla latte that is so good it has honestly ruined other lattes for me. & The staff is just special! such great people! The one downside is if there are more than 11 ppl in there, it can feel crowded.

2022-03-11We love this place! The staff and friendly, the drinks are delicious, the food does not joke around, and they have occasional night activities (we still need to try those out!) Seriously whoevers in their kitchen knows their stuff - makes this cafe just that tiny cut above the others (although anywhere you go in this area you cannot go wrong!!!)

2022-05-08Staff was nice and coffee was good! Didn’t really like the breakfast I got, there were some bad pieces of lettuce in the salad. Also they really should clean up in there a bit. The pillows on the booths were all torn up and the floor was really dirty ...

2022-04-18We just grabbed a bagel, croissant, coffee, and hot chocolate here, but everything was great. Inside was pretty small and cozy, but the outdoor seating was clean and comfortable.
