Sukhothai in other cities:
Came in on a chilly Sunday afternoon. A small bar on entry, in what appears to look like an expansion of the main space. Main space is nicely decored with old brick walls and art work. Server was very attentive. Gave us time to order some appetizers then came back to get our entree order. Tom Yum soup was good but interesting with bell peppers in it, a first for me. Veggie rice was good and the Massaman Curry with tofu was delicious. Wife enjoyed a delicious looking fried Ive cream for dessert.
Thai restaurant with extensive menu located in walkable downtown Beacon, next to Beacon falls. The food tastes great and the service is quick and friendly. The pad tai dishes are terrific and so is the Thai iced tea. The fried banana deserts add a great finish to any meal.
The food here is horrible. We have tried this place a few times and every time we come here we are disappointed. They don’t use authentic ingredients. For example for the lime Kafir soup they use the paste instead of lime kafir leaves. Food is oily and does not taste fresh.
From the outside I was like Meh, but went in with family for some Thai goodness and was really impressed. The service was nice and the ambiance was solid. I ordered the pad seiw (spelled differently at several places) and it was so so good. The portions are fairly large and I ended up taking half home for round two of devour town. I also had their vegetable spring rolls and they were really tasty. Definitely give this place a try.
The food was wonderful! I ordered red curry and they had it to my table in 8 minutes! And it was hot with the right amout of spice. Of course it was only me and 4 other people there. The waitress was friendly and did a great job!The cons are that the place was not clean and had a not so pleasant smell. The you could clearly see debris on the carpet and there were cobwebs on the light fixtures and in the bathroom. Lots of dustIt made me worry how clean things are behind the counter.Nice atmosphere though if it were clean.
I just recently moved to Beacon and am starting to realize that though this is a great town, people here seem to lack taste buds and are way too generous with their ratings. First the positives: the atmosphere and the staff. Both very nice, but neither will get me to go back to eat here. I ordered drunken noodles and was so disappointed at the blandness of the dish. If the owners should read this, I really want you to know that I am writing this so that your business is successful. Please make a trip to Long Island City’s Tuk Tuk. I drove the 2 hours to get takeout there, as I missed that restaurant so much. Best of luck.
We visited storm king and had dinner at this place before heading back to our hotel.cleanness: there was a piece of hair in one of the dishes.food: We ordered 4 dishes. Green curry was OK, fried rice was good, pad see ew was below average (with a weird bitter taste), the worst is the Thai noodle soup: its like someone poured too much rice wine in it and the whole soup is inedible. What really set me off to write a review was the left over halloween treats that they gave my kids after dinner: two small bags of utz pretzel from a huge can. My 6 yo told me she does not like the taste. My girls usually love pretzels so I opened the other bag before giving to my 4 yo. I couldnt even taste it because of the overwhelming smell of stale oil. I threw out them immediately.Based on above experience, I would never want to come again and would advice others to avoid it too.
Some dishes are prepared way better than others. The curries for example, are pretty tasty. The Pad Kee Mao or Druken Noodles unfortunately was not it. I ordered that while my date ordered the curry and I was eating off his plate the entire time while my noodle sat untouched. It has no flavor, improper seasonings, it was very unsatisfying for me. Would come back for the curry if I had to, but for Druken Noodles around here, I’ll go to Golden Buddha (theirs too are a bit better but not best)
I am not sure how this place has any good reviews. Having eaten in this establishment, I knew the food was so-so. But, I had takeout Thursday evening that was horrible. Ugh. The steamed dumplings were dry and inedible. They tasted like they were filled with chicken parts, cartilage included. The curry was awful. No veggies. So gross. Never again.
The food here is incredible its pretty amazing how they incorporate all those spices into a dish and just make those flavors pop. For appetizers I would highly recommend their chicken on a skewer with their peanut butter sauce on the side I dont remember what the appetizer was called but damn it was good
The drunken noodles I ordered were more like spicy linguine. The noodles are so skinny, didnt taste fresh at all, and the flavor is not at all how drunken noodles are supposed to taste, it was just so bland with a bunch of spice thrown in. No thai peppers or basil. I recently moved up here from the city and I am used to eating Drunken Noodles pretty regularly from several different spots. I have to say, this was a huge letdown.
Decent fare with large portions. They have nice outdoor seating. The service was a bit slow but i am guessing it is due to Covid times. For vegan/vegetarians:Multiple vegetarian optios. Some I had not seen anywhere else like the fried eggplant cutlets. I got the Pad Thai but the sauce was a little ketchuppy.
We found this restaurant on day 2 of the reopening of NY during the pandemic of 2020. We stopped in Beacon in a random day trip and discovered this gem of a restaurant at the end of Main St. We ordered the chicken curry dish and headed out to find a place to sit to eat. The food was SO GOOD we drove right back and ordered another meal to take home for dinner. We have since been back several times knowing it’s an hours drive just to eat there. We loved it so much we now want to live in Beacon!
Heres what I got for my $75 dollar takeout meal tonight.Three trips back to get the right order. I wish this was unusual but in the 13 years I have have lived here I can count the number of times an order was right on one hand...and most of those were a long time ago. I swore them off six months ago but was feeling lazy tonight and didnt want to head into to Fishkill. Wont make that mistake again.Back to the food.Chilli Beef was like leather. The peppers and onions were overcooked to mush. The broth tasted like American beef stew, not Thai. The dumplings were completely cold and tasted like stale refrigerator. We only got enough rice for one of the meals, but this is standard here. Strange thing to skimp on.The spring rolls and panang curry were great as usual.Sukhothai used to have great food and great service. In the past few years it has gone steadily downhill. This is the last time I will eat here, there is better 5 min away. My patience has run out.
I stayed in town to watch a friends dogs while they were on vacation. I literally went to this place or ordered take out every other night. Ive gotten a lot of different things from this place, but my favorite was the pineapple fried rice with chicken with mild spice. My wife and friends tried a few other things from the menu and loved everything they ordered. The spring rolls are also very good. I went here so much the waitresses got to know me enough to guess which beer I wanted. They have many beers to choose from and the wine selection is also pretty large. I dont think I ever had an empty glass. The waiters and waitresses are very attentive and are always there to fill up your glass. The food is also very reasonably priced and you get a large portion. If I got dinner, half the time I wouldnt be able to finish it and would have it for lunch the next day. Overall great atmosphere and great food. A must if youre visiting Beacon!
Just okay...drunken noodle and pad siew lacked flavor. Passable at best. Food took a long time to arrive. Vegetable and chicken spring rolls were good. Definitely seemed popular with the locals, but it wasnt very good. $60 for two people and we didnt get alcohol...crazy expensive for just okay
Ordered online 45 minutes and still not ready! When I called so I did not have to come inside no one come back to help me. Used to like this place. The BLANDEST Thai food I have ever had, watered down asked for Hot I expect spicy food. Will tell everyone not to go back.
I ordered a pad thai for take out to pair with Hudson valley beer. I thought it would be a safe option, to my surprise it was probably the worst I have had, and Ive been to many Thai places. It was spiced weirdly and intensely, not authentic nor delicious. I could not finish it and physically felt sick afterwards. Not to mention it was pricier, $17, than Manhattan. Although the atmosphere was decent and the staff very friendly, the food was just not tasty.
I would give zero Stars if I could I came here today to pick up a doordash for a customer, I was also with my 2 year old daughter. The manager was on his phone the whole time & the bus boy was on his phone the whole time. They kept telling me I was the next order they never brought up my food, they brought out five other peoples food, I waited 40 minutes and even after the 40 minutes, the person that came in after me got their food before me so I left. Plus they werent that busy maybe five people eating in the restaurant, i never ate here and now i dont ever plan on it. Did i mention the manager was rude and was kind of ignoring me like i didnt have a screaming baby in my hands for 40 minutes -_-
That was our first visit in Beacon and we decided to try this restaurant. We order soup each and there we really good. We also had a carry duck to go and it was really delicious and the portion was really big. Servers were really nice and attentive and everyone had a big smile on their face. My only complaint that the menu is really hard to read.
I love sukothai and Ive been there quite a few times. The food is always good and the service is awesome too. They check on you quite often and you never have to worry about your glass being empty. Ive had their peanut pork, vegetable spring rolls, chicken fennel salad and their pad Thai. All really delicious and the food always comes out so quick. Highly recommend
Love the food! Best part is we can order online or call in for a pick up order. The curry is delicious and we’ve always had great service when picking up and our order has always been ready in the time frame given. Only down side is we’d love to have more rice with our meals. Other then that AMAZING!
Thai food at its best, it has an excellent atmosphere and a misterious vibe that truly captures your attention. Love the decoration and the lighting, it has a nice mood. The food is simply delicious! A hidden gem in Beacon. Highly recommend their rice and curry dishes. They have a true richness and earthiness thats quite distinctive.
Wonderful experience! Great food, service, atmosphere, variety on the menu, and reasonable prices. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and would return if Im ever in the area. Bonus info, we noticed their cleaning methods were very thorough which is certainly appreciated.
Great food.Update:Decided to order a pickup, went in to get it with my mask on and noticed that none of the cooking staff were wearing any masks. Canceled my order. Eat here if you want, I will not until this pandemic is over, I have family with immunity issues and cannot take any chances.
We love Sukhothai and it is one of only two restaurants we have gotten takeout from during the lockdown. However, the last two times I have been in to pick up our orders, there has been at least one worker with no mask on. (Tonight the person with no mask appeared to be the manager - as he displays a giant sign on the bar that says, Please wear a face covering.) This puts the patron in an awkward position, as I would have liked to ask him to please put on a mask for my safety while I was in there. Not sure I can return if this is going to continue. The food was great as always, though.
My stomach is sensitive to unfresh food, so after I finished my meal, my tummy was just not taking it in well. I got bubble guts for the rest of the night. The food itself was not bad, but I definitely had better thai in the city. I had the Massaman chicken curry and my partner had the Sukhothai chicken; we shared the spring rolls. Wouldnt recommend the curry, but the Sukhothai chicken was fine. Service was nice, which is why I bumped up the rating. The waitors/waitress came by pretty often to see how we were doing, which was nice. The restaurant was not busy on a Sunday night; you will not have to wait.
I couldnt decide whether they deserved a 3 star or a 4 star. I decided on 4 for the duck with spicy basil that they serve. Its delicious. Besides that its a little hit or miss.Papaya salad was lacking in taste, sent it back for add-ons. (Dont be scared of fish sauce people) My Tom yum gai was so sour 😣 was lacking the real authentic taste of Thailand where all ingredients meet in harmony and its a perfect party in your mouth. And for future reference.. If you want spicy go hotter than hot! I asked for hot on my duck and it came out pretty mild.Ive been here a couple times. Sometimes service is good. Other times (esp during lunch) youre waiting a little while. Its the better choice of Thai in the neighborhood. I just wish they werent scared to use all ingredients needed to really make it POP!!
Not good. This isnt authentic Thai food. I ordered a popular Thai dish - pad see ew. The noodles werent the wide ones you get at other Thai restaurants. It was basically fettuccine noodles that I got. The sauce was bland, it tasted like soy sauce with sugar. It lacked flavor. There were weird little things in it that looked like beans. If you want delicious authentic Thai food, drive to poughkeepsie to Thai spice and thailicious. Order their pad see ew or drunken noodles. You will not regret it.
Best Thai in the Hudson Valley. During the week go for the curry sampler! You can chose four different curries and four different proteins, and its enough for a few people or 2 meals worth for 2 people. Also, we find substituting rice noodles for rice makes it extra delicious.
Pad Thai, Panang curry, teriyaki chicken, spring rolls are so delicious, and you can adjust the heat to your liking. The iced coffee with cardamom has become my favorite summer beverage. Wait staff are attentive and friendly. You should go for their lunch specials 11am to 3pm as it is a great price. Enjoy!!
Yet another Thai restaurant with good decor and ordinary food. We had a fried sea bass in sauce -- the fish itself was very good (and expensive -- $30 for a smallish fish), but the sauce was that sickly-sweet ketchupy stuff that seems to cover everything in mediocre Thai restaurants. Decor was above-average, with tasteful lighting and all. Service was good.
Been here twice. Once for lunch, once for dinner. Lunch special was worth it. Dinner was not. We got the pad thai with thin rice noodles which was not worth noting and the beef salad which was unedible. We each took a small bite and left the rest. Really unfortunate because, we just moved to Beacon and love Thai food... who doesnt?
Below par pad thai, tasted a bit like the kind you can buy paste for at the local grocer. Thai iced coffee tasted a bit like feet, and not the good kind. The only reason for the 2 star is that the fresh spring rolls had a delightful mint aftertaste and really filled the mouth and belly.
Worst Thai food I ever had. Bland, mushy, not authentic at all. My favorite condiment of Thai peppers were not available and the waitress brought me some pepper flakes. Maybe I’m spoiled coming from San Francisco but if you’ve ever had any actual real Thai cuisine you will be sorely disappointed.
Not ready for prime time. Bland interpretation of a complex cuisine. They are always busy, though I am not sure why.Issues:The acoustics of brick and concrete ceiling make dining loud and unpleasant. The help is scatterbrained: no less than 4 people came over, which confused them, I suppose. The waitress completely forgot my daughters entree. Instead, she asked if we were ready for the check, and I said my daughter hasnt had her entree yet, but the waitress said OK, and walked away - i.e., she wasnt even listening. The waitresses dont know the menu, or how to pronounce anything on it. I ordered gaiyang, a national dish of Thailand for centuries, and the waitress had no idea.We sat that way for the whole meal, with one plate on the table, and a wine glass aching for a refill that was never offered. I asked to speak to the manager, but they all looked very confused, and said there wasnt one there, though they didnt ask why.Better off going to Thai Pepper in Fishkill. Way more authentic, and much better service.
Ordered the gluten free pineapple shrimp fried rice. This was made, without doubt, using a wheat based soy sauce. The menu stated gluten free, but the restaurant thought that soy sauce is naturally gluten free. The server then stated it was tamari but the bottle did not state gluten free! Then she switched her story by stating that the dish was colored with oyster sauce. All in all, the pineapple dish only contained 3 tiny pieces of canned pineapple and was a huge disappointment! I left with a huge stomach ache.
I always love Sukothai...Lunch special, which is a VERY good deal...is around 10 or 11 bucks and you get an entree (my fave is Pan nang curry...lunch special, also comes with two small spring rolls and a soda...SO GREAT. For dinner, try the Curry Sampler.(If you love curry) which is easily enough food for two people, if youre both moderately hungry....Hey, its what Im ordering to take out, this very evening...the ONLY criticism I have, is that service is VERY hit or miss.
Chira and Ray, I have missed your food for a while now, the chicken fried rice with pineapple came to mind today, I tried ordering it at a different restaurant today, what I got was terrible, I miss your food so much , Cant wait to get back to Beacon, Som Tam, Pineapple fried rice with chicken and vegetables and Nam sod will be my order, look forward to seeing you. Brian.

2022-07-12I was visiting Beacon with my friend from Manhattan, ordered the wrong food that left me dissatisfied with our lunch. Their Twice Cooked Beef was salty, crunchy bits of beef fat, hard to chew very dry. The salad that came on the side(papaya salad) of my dish was over seasoned with sodium, too salty. My friend who went to Thailand herself said the food is not authentic. She ordered Chichen coconut soup. Stuff was very nice and gave me their employee discount of $5 because I didnt like, and didnt finish the Twice Cooked Beef.

2021-09-30Went with my 2 girlfriends on Wednesday, September 2⁹, 2021. Two of us had Pad Thai with Shrimp and loved it. Had Thai tea and it was delicious. Also tried Thai rice with mango, and it was the very best mango I have ever had, not the stringy mango that gets caught in my teeth, like I am used to. Surrounded by beautiful artwork, I loved the ambience. The restaurant and restroom were immaculate. Definitely worth a return trip!

2022-05-14The restaurant itself was nice and the waitress was kind. However, the food was definitely not worth the price. $18 for a vegetable pad Thai. If you are seeking an authentic Thai restaurant, best to skip this one.

2022-06-18I admit I am not an expert on Thai food but compared to other fav Thai restaurants the meal was delicious. Everything tasted authentic and fresh. They made the meal to my requested level of spiciness. The sauces were great. I felt stuffed pretty quickly and couldnt finish it, but it was too little to bring home. I would definitely go back again. The server was attentive and very polite. The atmosphere was beautiful.

2022-02-06Cozy place with a great Thai menu. The food was really fantastic, everyone at our table was happy. The service was really great and constantly checking in. The only negative for us was that upon walking in, we were overwhelmed by a smell similar to a place with lots of dogs or cats. It subsided as we got used to it but we all noticed it.

2020-08-09Delicious food, great takeout service, allergy accommodation, and their sticky rice is fantastic! The spring rolls were crisp outside with a satisfying crunch. Authentic Thai in the heart of the eclectic downtown Beacon. Sorry no photos of the food, takeout containers wouldnt do it justice 😁🍚
