Sunrise Mart in other cities:
I tried their okomoyaki which for its price, was packed with ingredients and made a filling meal on its own. The place is unassuming and has a cozy upstairs dining area, a good place to get your Japanese snacks and groceries too. I only wish they would heat up the meals that were already prepared and boxed, but they do prepare made to order meals too, such as rice bowls and soup noodles. Nice place overall to visit.
Chain Japanese deli and grocery I would say. Good for quick grab lunches from ramen to bento box to sushi poke bowl. Prices are very reasonable. When I dont have any specific food on my mind I just come here and grab something. Onigiri are really cheap and love their bakery too specially Kosian pan.
One of the best locations of Sunrise Mart chain. They have a small cafe-like area where you can get onigiri ($1.45 & $1.75 w/salmon), noodles, rice w/protein, ramen and other foods; there’s coffee and sweets. The Mart is small but still has a good variety of snacks, condiments, frozen foods and other stuff.
Great Japanese supermarket in the Bryant Park area. They have two storefronts; one is their supermarket with some pre-prepared foods and sushi. While the other is more of a cafeteria/ restaurant style. Things here can be a little overpriced, especially if you can get the item at competing supermarkets. However, they offer a great selection of Japanese vegetables, snacks, goods. For non-perishable items, they are often competitive with online retailers, however, I always check with Amazon if Im browsing teas or other products that I can get shipped. In their supermarket section, they have fish for sashimi or sushi that is often reasonably competitively priced. On the second floor, they have some household goods and beauty products that are often overlooked if you only look at the main ground level of the market. Excellent friendly service. However, make sure to bring your own bag because they charge a lot more than the usual $0.05 per bag.
Sunrise Mart has very delicious food. Both the eatery and the market offer a wide variety of fine and fresh food. Recommended for anyone in Manhattan either looking for a quick bite or picking up ingredients for a Friday night dinner. Also this girl that works there looks the good 😊 wish I knew her name ☹️Actually, if I saw her again I would even tell her; hey, I like you. I am in Florida and this location is in Manhattan.Ahh 😩 the love of my life🇷🇺🇯🇵😘😉Hello Mary - Jesus loves you ♥️
Simple, straight-forward Japanese grocery store located right across from the main NYPL library at 42nd Street. Used to love going here because of the convenient location and the relatively-fair prices, but dont go so much anymore because the prices have increased for many products several times since Covid started. Also the staff here could also be more helpful and nicer.
🇯🇵🍱🍛🍜🍣🍤🥟🍰🍫🍋🎌🍘🍙🥢🍥Note: They relocated two stores down. It’s now much bigger than before. A great selection of Japanese products, most of which are made in Japan (日本製). You can find a lot of different types of Kit Kat Bars here. The prices are very reasonable and the staff are very polite and friendly. It’s on a side street by the main New York Public Library.
There is no snack oasis in Midtown like Sunrise Mart from the variety of sweet, salty, spicy, sour, crunchy, or chewy eats from candies to chips and more to satisfy hunger pangs with colorful packaging and kooky designs. of course, Sunrise Mart sells a lot more than just snack foods...one can find from a variety of Japanese ingredients to Japanese frozen foods to ready-made meals like bento boxes and smaller prepared bites like onigiri. Sunrise Mart covers a lot of needs.normally, i grab Pocky (good selection of flavors) or onigiri bc either is a great on-the-move snacks.the store itself is fairly small and narrow. theres a lot of products. the store at times feels more crowded than it is. that said, checkout lines move pretty decently depending on how many cashiers are on duty. since the pandemic, the store feels less crowded bc of the lack of people in midtown getting lunch or early evening meals. the produce items are close to the front. the snacks are towards the middle. and everything else is on shelves or in refrigerated units.service is fairly fast and efficient.
Love the midtown Sunrise Market for its rice bun burgers!!! It has a good selection of Japanese hot food with grocery in the back. Also a small cafe that serves pastries and coffee/tea at the front. Tried their breakfast special with eggs, sausage, toast, and coffee for ~$3.75. Great addition to this block of Japanese food spots. Also really like the second floor to enjoy the food!!
I have been going to Sunrise Mart for many years. I usually buy their 50-pack of sushi nori, along with some excellent kosher tea from Japan and my favorite baked item which is green tea an pan--best around 11 a.m. shortly after it is made. I have had all three of their meals including breakfast or morning service in their upstairs section where the food is always fresh and tasty. The atmosphere reminds me of the time I had spent in Tokyo decades ago.
Nice Japanese market with authentic foods to boot! Opens early (weekdays) with a great selection of groceries. Lunches here are the best with fresh and delicious Japanese foods that can be enjoyed on their 2nd floor dining area. All the staff are always helpful and kind.
Very small and kind of hidden supermarket in St. Marks, Sunrise has a lot of basic Japanese cooking necessities. They also have a decent snack selection as well. Its a good alternative if you cant get to Mituswa or an H Mart, which are larger in size and selection. The prices are moderate but not the cheapest Ive seen. But overall the location is clean and well organized. Its a good alternative if you cant get to a bigger supermarket.
I’ve been here before to grocery shop. Pretty decent selection for the space. First time getting prepared food as I now work in the area. They have food in the fridge, some hot ready to go, and hot food made to order. Getting food to order is a little confusing at first. You order from someone with an order pad, pay at one of the registers, then wait to pick up. What’s confusing is the people waiting around the hot food area and the various menu signs. Most people waiting have ordered but just check. All in all it’s a good place to get a decent quality meal under $10 in this area
Love this place. You can get a variety of prepared Japanese foods day and night. Specialty Japanese groceries are available in the back. They have a small selection of Japanese craft beer.Pro tip: grab some sliced sashimi packages in the back seafood section and ask for chopsticks, wasabi and soy sauce. It makes a great side to their prepared foods.
A gem! A diamond!! James and Milton were 2 of the friendliest and most helpful people I have ever met in my 10 years of being here in New York. I will be coming back here more often now that I prepare Japanese food. I’m very excited to try their lunch specials. Very happy with their selection.
There is a Japanese grocery store in the back of this food/lunch spot. They do a wonderful job is cramming so much product into such a small space... I challenge you to not find a single Japanese grocery store project here. Some quality products you may be looking for which they carry: unpasteurized miso, scallions, fresh fish, sushi fish, bonito flakes, various pastes, sauces, and liquids, and other various fresh produce common to the Japanese household.
Good selection for a tasty and economically priced lunch during weekdays. Can wait and get something freshly made or something packed earlier for a quicker purchase. The packaged foods are still fresh from earlier in the day, but try to get something thats still warm. Not a fan of the onigiri. Minimum $10 for credit card. Can also pay with Apple Pay.
Katsu pork cutlet sandwich was tasty and $5.49 (cheaper than ootoya). Gyu-don $7.95 was fine. Its the authentic and affordable taste of Japan that people who know Japanese quality would go to.Entrance is accessible but to get to the back of the store thw aisles are a bit of a squeeze. Eat in area is not that big so I recommend take - out and eat at Bryant Park if weather is good.Good Japanese drink selection too.
Decent selection. It comes with a small dining area on the second level. Its cramped, but hey. As long as I can get my Japanese staples, Im happy. Its a good place for a casual date or meet up with friends. The black sesame ice cream and green tea ice cream mochi are must-tries.
This is a welcome addition in the wake of the closing of Kaguya just a few stores down on the same block. This is neatly, organized, and presented well enough that non-Japanese speaking folks (like myself) can get a bit adventurous and try their hand at Japanese food/groceries.The main draw of this place for me was the hot food bar. You can order typical Japanese lunch fare like curry, udon, etc. and watch as its being prepared in front of you. They also have pre-made sandwiches and bento boxes (with a microwave on the second floor bar to bring it up to temp of your liking). This place also doubles as a Japanese supermarket. They have a wide variety of Japanese snacks, drinks, meal components - even things like cosmetics, appliances, and cookware to get you started into a foray into Japanese cuisine.
Lapin and I came here one day for lunch as we both work close by. Sunrise Mart is a mix between a grocery store, bakery, convenience store and a deli counter setup. In the front, when you first enter -- they have a small bakery set up where you can purchase sweet treats from behind the glass doors and hot/cold beverages. To the left, they have open refrigerators that sell premade bento boxes, sushi rolls, onigiri, and a bunch of other goodies. In the back, you can buy packaged goods, frozen goodies, chocolates/candy/treats, and other stuff you would find in a small Japanese store. They manage to fit a good selection in the small space so depending on when you go...it might be a it cramped. Some of the items, you could find cheaper in other places but most of the items are decently priced. They also have a hot deli counter where you can order soups, entrees and appetizers that are made in front of you in case you dont want any of the premade ones. They also have an upstairs eating area where you can go eat all the little goodies you uncovered.
Oh dear only after youve been to Chinatown that you realise how clean, organised and civilised this place is. Prices are reasonable for most items - 99c tofu thank you very much. The cashier was courteous and actually smiled at the customer, which reminds me that this kind of customer service still exists.only drawback is $10 min for debit/credit card, no biggie but could be something to improve on.
Conveniently located on 41st street across from NY public library main building, this Japanese supermarket is reasonably priced, though small, provides an alternative last-minute food shopping choices. They open until 9 pm which is convenient for those working late but still wish to get some Asian groceries. At this location only, Sunrise Mart has a hot food eatery area where they serve donburi (rice bowls) and udon (noodle) dishes at very reasonable prices with fulfilling good Japanese food.
This Sunrise is the worst Ive been to. It was tiny and crowded. But worst of all, I was denied entry with my service dogs. An older gentleman told me it doesnt matter that I have a disability, theres no dogs with an open kitchen and lied that the government told him so. Even when a couple ladies next to me backed me up, saying service dogs are allowed, he refused to take my card stating my rights and kept saying it doesnt matter. Incredibly rude and unprofessional business owner.
Sunrise uses old/ expired groceries to make their special bento boxes & repackages their meat every morning so it is labeled as fresh, extremely unethical.Their veggies are ordered from Chinatown and repacked with Japanese labels with a high mark up - this place is disgusting - I used to work in the SR back kitchenOn another note - Dojo, located on on 14 W 4th St. is part of the same organization... you know where the spoiled market food goes to make for their delicious food (;
The female asian so-called manager (claimed herself as the manager/person-in-charge, around 35 years old) was pretty rude with discrimination, who refused some customers to be seated on the second floor. She tended to force customers to leave even by taking physical actions. In addition, she secretly picked up a lost wallet by customer on the seat without saying anything, and its probably in her pocket now. Wont be there anymore. Barbarian.
This sunrise mart is the one you want to go to for a quick bite to eat, but the one in east village is overall cheaper if youre grocery shopping, I believe - however, thats totally understandable considering the location and cost of the real estateAdditionally, the quality of the sashimi here doesnt look quite as good as the east village location either
The Macys parade closed the road and I couldnt go to the target store. I had no choice but to return to the hotel, and the cutlet curry I went to at this nearby shop was delicious. There are many Japanese foods such as rice balls and bento boxes. Is the clerk Japanese?
We use well as location is good. Sugar toast here is cheap but tasty so you can recommend it when you are hungry. However, it is better not to ask for drinks because they are not good. Ive been asking my stomach for a while. Since the sign of hygiene management was B, it seems that the sanitary environment is not so good. There is an eat-in space on the second floor, which is a good place to rest. The toilet is on the first floor. What I dont like is the cold of Japanese clerks against Japanese people. I think its really a shame for the same Japanese. Like Japanese customers, I dont intend to demand extra services, but even if I get friendly, I get cold when I know Im Japanese. There is an incomprehensible atmosphere in the Japanese clerk.
A wide range of Japanese ingredients is available, from fresh products to seasonings, frozen foods, and snacks. In other supermarkets, it seems that you can buy it for about $ 10 to about $ 15-20. I think its cheap.I would definitely recommend Japanese food during my stay in New York.
New York with my son. I took a break because I was tired of walking around the city, but I was going to have a good smell and ate ramen, lunch, and cake. There were some Japanese clerks. The service is not bad, it feels good.I am jumbled in the store, but I can not help it because there are many products. Since I was a self-catering hotel, I purchased a 2-kilogram Akitamachi there. It was not high.Ramen and udon will be asked at the counter, check out with lunch and drinks first, and wait. Go upstairs if you can. There are two microwaves on the second floor, with chopsticks, paper napkins and soy sauce. We could confirm only for women, but there is restroom.Because it ’s in the right place to take a breakWhere to go next? Great for planning.Japanese food you will always want when you stay for more than a week. Its cheaper than a restaurant, and of course you dont need a tip.It isnt anything but Japanese noodles, bowls, lunch boxes, breads and cakes.
Although the inside of the shop is confusing, the Japanese ingredients are pretty much everything from sweets. The price is a bit high, but I cant help it because its not sold anywhere in New York supermarkets. If you miss Japanese food, you can get rolled sushi and lunch boxes.
A restaurant called a grocery store.. There is food on one side and a Japanese grocery store on one side. There are tables and chairs to eat on the second floor. If you are bothered to find a restaurant, you can eat rice bowls or udon noodles here.Order food from the chef, go to the counter to check out (Ask if youre going to eat or take it), put the food on a tray, and run it on the second floor~~

2022-01-26Amazing Japanese store with fresh snacks, sweets, sushi and hot food items. 1 side is a grocery store and the other is mostly food to go. They have an upstairs dining area. The staff is really friendly and I loved how fresh the sashimi was. Buttery and tasty! They have fresh toro from Japan as well

2021-12-01Small GEM in Midtown, NYC.If you are a group of 4-8 ppl, hungry, and looking for a place that is available for a meal in Midtown, You might get it only in your dream. However, it has existed! Right here at Sunrise Mart. Price is very reasonable, many items, and delicious (De-Li-Cious-Su; Japanese accent, lol)We had two bowls, 1 was a Grilled salmon with Chicken karaage, its good but nothing special compared to other places. The second, which was Gyusuji (Udon with Yam, and Beef stew) Id say this was my favorite all the time. I must have it when I went to Sunrise Mart especially the one located in Brooklyn (and Brooklyn branchs soup flavor was stronger too) Udon was smooth but firmed, Soup was tasty but not too heavy nor thick. Beef stew might be cut a bit too small but thats ok. having along with a calpico or tea would send me to heaven. lmao. They have a microwave and restroom (YEAH!)I believe the best meal here is Gyusuji, and the second was Beef over rice. Dont forget to try it. ARiKaTo!This wasnt my first time stopping by and surely its not the last time too. recommended!!!!#director_eat_out

2021-07-21Dope market, I wish it wasnt in the cut like that— probably has to do with the rent prices being so high but this is a nice market. They have a restaurant right next door too. I got Tonkotsu Ramen and it was damn good. They have great seating and a nice ambiance, if you have time yall should check it out.

2021-09-14After leaving my doctors appointment I stumbled upon Sunrise Market and was in love! As a foodie, authentic ethnic grocery stores make my heart smile and I am a LOVER of Asian cuisine. As I perused the store I said to myself wow I wished they had a restaurant and as I walked out the door and looked to my left, behold! My wish came true!I was overwhelmed, in the best way possible. Watching the chefs cook in real time enhanced the experience. They have pre-made bento boxes, sushi bowls and plates that are already prepared. Or, you can order noodle, rice, dumpling, etc dishes freshly made for you in real time.I ordered the Spicy Tuna Onigiri, Pork & Beef Dumplings, Tanuki Udon Noodles and ohmygawddddddd it was fantastic. Woof. They also offer, which Ive never seen before, Japanese pasta dishes. I vowed to come back and try at a different time because the descriptions looked amazing. For Covid-19 measures, patrons can order take out or sit outside for dining, if you sit inside you must write down your information for contact tracing and your temperature must be taken. All in all, visit. Do it. I dare you. Youll love it.

2022-09-12The grocery store and the takeaway shop are separated. This review is about the grocery store. The selection of personal care and home products on the second floor is very good, but the first floor grocery feels cramped and scant. More importantly, I bought sashimi grade salmon to make poke. I noticed that the fish was sitting on top of an open bed of ice which was chilling the bottom of the plastic containers but not the top. I touched the top of the container and it wasnt cold, but I was already in the store so I got the fish. When I got home, I saw that the salmon I picked up had an appearance that indicates it was not kept at a cold enough temperature (the fat started to melt, giving the salmon an oily sheen). When I opened it, I could smell a fishy smell on the salmon. This was extremely disappointing.Still, I made and consumed the poke. After marinating the fish, the smell was mostly gone and there were no adverse affects after eating it. However, there was no denying that this fish wasnt as fresh as my expectation. I wish they would just properly refrigerate their fish so customers are not playing russian roulette on getting food poisoning.

2021-06-01After the news reported an employee was harassed and assaulted… my family and friends had to support them. It was my first time here. And the employees went above and beyond! The foods were freshly prepared and delicious!
