Got a same day appt from an opening they had at 1140. Signed in and waited for an hour right in front of receptionist (Tiny Waiting Room) Other people came, were greeted and promptly seen. And I waited while they were checking in and out visitors. Receptionists and Vets coming in and out of front desk. Never once acknowledged. After exactly 1 hour I asked if I was going to be seen. I was then asked, Who are you? Havent you been seen?Well what idiot waits in a vets office for an hour AFTER being seen.Good thing this was to be my pets first visit which now turned into our last.
I had my first visit to Sunrise Veterinary Group with my 10 year old Pit/lab mix today. Ive been meaning to find a new vet because of a move to a new home and my veterinarian retiring but my dog became ill over the last 24 hours and I wanted to her to be seen. My dog is typically anxious and a little fearful of new people especially men but Kim and Dr. Betts were awesome. They let her warm up to them before completing the exam and provided some suggestions to help her be comfortable for the next time we have to visit. Great service, even nicer people, and they were clear about options for tests/medicines and what they felt were necessary. I will be back.
Dr B has taken amazing care of all my dogs. I hope he never retires. He’s very experienced in all aspects of veterinary care. He was even concerned about my Westie who dug under my fence and was missing for several hours. I found him an hour after I left him, and it was because of his advice. Im grateful for his help.
Dr. Betts is the best. You can tell he is very experienced but he takes the time to explain and give advice. Charlie is my first pet ever and Dr. Betts has made my transition into having a pet so easy. The only down side to office is one of the receptionist ( the one with the red hair)will kind of ignore you when you are standing right in front of her at the desk and she is a little snippy sometimes.
The amount of work Dr. V and his team did to save my kitten’s life is heartwarming. I’m so unbelievably grateful to them and the price was 1/5th of what another place quoted me. I found her on the side of the road and she needed gangrene treatment and a leg amputation. The animal is their number 1 priority there and it’s exactly what you need in a vet. I was in a state when I went there and they were so unbelievably kind to me and my kitten. Now I have a cat that loves going in the car because she wants to see them. I honestly can’t say enough about how great they are.
Dr. Thode is amazing. I brought my leopard gecko in for what I just thought was mouth rot and something with his eyes but he ended up being much sicker. Dr. Thode was very realistic about his prognosis which I appreciated. He needed a surgical procedure which went very well and he is much better than when I first brought him in. The vet techs are all awesome too, they remembered him and how he had been when I first brought him in. He is pretty much back to normal now. If you have a reptile that needs a vet come here, it is totally worth it. They are compassionate and really care about what they’re doing. Thank you to everyone who works there!
I have a six month old kitten. I was having a tough time getting an appt at my regular guy - because he is really good and very busy because of it. I wanted my kitten seen immediately because he wasnt feeling well. My reg vet was not able to see us to late afternoon. so I called these guys. I told them I was anxious - and - despite their busy schedule, I was in an hour later. The vet Dr. Weisberg was so incredibly kind to me and my pet. I felt bad I had not gotten him in sooner, and he was so reassuring and told me my diagnoses (parasites) was correct. He also took his time to answer all my questions. Less than an hour later we were home, and kitten medicated and sleeping. I was am so grateful for the quick visit - but for them just seeing us and alleviating my anxiety and helping kitty to mend. I am going to take him and his sis here from now on - and keep dogs with my regular guy. Happy endings. Cant recommend these guys enough.
The doctor I had was super nice, knowledgeable and helpful. The reason why I give this place 3 stars is because they claim they are accommodating to each person but they aren’t. I’m a college student and I have a cat that I saved from being thrown out into the street and can not afford to pay crazy prices for simple things. I love my cat but I really can’t be paying so much to find out if my cat is okay or not :(The email you provided for me in the response does not work.
Dr. Bistry (hope I’m spelling correct) and the staff went above and beyond for my cat despite my financial situation. My cat got an infection on her leg due to a bite, the doctor was so patient and caring, which made me and my cat comfortable during the whole process and literally saved her life. I will forever be thanksful!! Totally recommend!!
My family has been using this vet for 20 years and never had a problem. Many of our dogs were brought here at the end of their life and the Dr. and staff were always so kind to them and us. Their staff has always been helpful and accommodating for our dogs. Dr. B is great and the building is always clean. I recommend them to anyone who needs a vet!
TAKE YOUR PETS HERE. PERIOD.HIGHLY SKILLED.Kind. Compassionate. Thoughtful. Lovely.I had expected that this little cut would require a stitch or two, anaesthesia and an overnight stay at a cost of at least a couple of grand. I understand veterinary costs...I truly do. HOWEVER, I also know that this VETERINARY GROUP in West Islip..NOT the EMERGENCY HOSPITAL nearby...IS ABOUT LOVE AND COMPASSION OF PETS AND PEOPLE...NOT THE ALMIGHTY DOLLAR.I had the distinct honor and pleasure of having my little pup treated by Dr. Bystry. I told him that it was I who inflicted the wound to my own little dog, whom I love dearly, that it was an unfortunate grooming accident. I felt miserably guilty about it which did not need to be verbalized.Dr. Bystry instictively told me how he feels so bad for the groomers when it happens to them and what a difficult job they have as he was looking over the tiny incision on my dogs forearm. Im holding my breath as he inspects the wound.Take a moment to think about that first encounter and what that man did for me to help ease the guilt and dread I had been carrying. I RESCUE pups. Ive never ever hurt one...and this was the WORST case of the guilts - to have injured this little guy. Dr. Bystry knew just what to say...and I breathed normally after that...and so did my pup, actually. Turns out, Dr. Bystry advised all Jody needs is some antibiotics and some antiseptic wash, which I shall administer daily with TLC.Afterwards, we had a lovely conversation about one of his colleagues, Dr. Thode, whom I had met several years earlier, when I brought my 90lb pit bull in. We chatted for about ten or 15 minutes and Dr. Bystry told me a couple of amazing anecdotes about Dr. Thode and she, too, is kind, compassionate and WONDERFUL! I had tears in my eyes remembering this same benevolent spirit, charity and compassion in my dearly departed Dad towards his patients. Doctors like these are SO VERY RARE. THEY ARE AN ABSOLUTE TREASURE....and its nothing short of miraculous or destiny, if you prefer, that Dr. Bystry and Dr. Thode found eachother and joined together in this practice (but Ill stick with divine intervention.) Id describe them as Veterinary soul-mates for the love of animals and families and Im so very happy to have them in my neighborhood. I havent met the others in the group yet but Im fairly certain that theyre all awesome!P.S.Dear Dr. Bystry:Thank you for your kindnesses to my little dog, who was just happy for a ride in the car, but especially to me. Your words and wisdom were as powerful as your knowledge and medicines. You healed BOTH of us today and it was TRULY a pleasure and an honor to meet you.Warmest regards,Judy & JodyWHY WOULD ANYBODY GO ANYWHERE ELSE BUTSUNRISE VETERINARY GROUP?
I’m sorry to say but you guys lost two customers today because of the attitude of a vet tech right at our greeting. As our dog was taken she questioned why we even made an apt with a “really? That’s why you’re here ?” and stated that we were “probably wrong” Insinuating that our dog didn’t need a visit... It’s a shame we loved coming here and have been loyal customers for 8+ years.
Everyone here is so great. I take a bit of a drive out and its well worth it. I see Dr. Barbara Thode for my pets. She truly cares for animals and is such a sweet lady. My pets are more calm seeing her than when Ive gone to previous vets. Its always a pleasant experience and they even ask if I need help bringing my cage to my car when my hands are full.
Great Vet! I wanted to add that Dr Thode is truly the best vet I have ever had the pleasure to help me in my time of need with both of our ferrets, She was kind, informative and extremely caring. I will soon bring my pup in for a visit as well. Keep up the great work! Thank You very much!
Brought my cat in for a last minute emergency visit after my own vet in Deer Park would not see him because they were all booked up. Dr. Brett and the staff were all very accommodating and their concern for my elderly cat was quite evident in the way they handled him. I will be switching all my pet care to Sunrise Veterinary Group.Regarding the few one star reviews Ive seen, I believe those people are confusing Sunrise Veterinary group with the Emergency Animal Hospital down the street. That place charges you $1500 just to walk through the front door.
GREAT DOCTORS.. DR. BETTS IS WONDERFUL,. CARING COMPASSIONATE DETAILED.DO NOT DEAL W KATHY, VERY LAZY. UNPROFESSIONAL, NASTY, & DISRESPECTFUL ...Rest of the staff very nice. She has no business working at a vet. 3 bad encounters w her.CORRECTION-- EMPLOYEE IS DEBBIE!! NOT KATHY!! KATHY IS OFFICE MANAGER. SHE IS EXCEPTIONAL, UNAWARE OF ON GOING SITUATIONS.
Worst place ever! It’s the Second time I take my dog there because of an emergency, and Is the second time that I have to pay a lot of money. It is the second time that they tell me that he has something worst that he has. I tried giving this place a second chance but they tried to tell me to put him down and make me do a MRI for my dog because “he might have a tumor”. I am only writing this because I don’t think they should see dogs as ways to make more money and diagnose your dog with the worst thing possible that they can think of. Please don’t take your dog there they don’t care about your pocket or your dog. They will make you pay more than what you have to. If you do take your dog there make sure you get a second opinion. Trust me I did and my dog it’s ok and I don’t have to put him down.
If 0 stars were an option, this would be a 0 star Veterinary group. We came in with an appointment and the Dr. said our dog had a prolapse. She felt around and said her bladder felt fine and that we could either go to the emergency hospital right after, or wait 2 days and go. (WHICH IS FATAL IF U WAIT!!) We immediately took her to the emergency hospital where they found that her bladder was literally coming out of her body because a kidney stone was blocking her and put her in immediate surgery. This vet could have made my dog die, telling us we could wait 2 days. Unbelievable. Not to mention she said “you have to think about if your dog is worth spending all that money.” She is worth it. Would never return, even if it was my last option.
I do not take my cats to the vet regularly as they are indoor cats. When I do need to take them in, Sunrise Vet could not be more accommodating. I do not have to wait long when I arrive and have been happy with the all the doctors and staff throughout the years. They LOVE animals. As far as expense, I do not have pet insurance which may help, but I know it will cost a few hundred dollars. Veterinary care is just pricey no matter where you go as they are expensive businesses to run with skilled professionals (a veterinary doctor goes to school 7 years!!), expensive equipment and salaries. Do I wish it would be less expensive when I have to go? Sure, but I am realistic and understand whey it is what it is.
Was here this past weekend. My dog had a tick which we tried to remove unsuccessfully, we called the vet right away. First time to this office, we saw Dr. Betts. When I called initially they took us right away within 15 mins. Due to Covid, we pulled up waited in the spot and they came out and got our dog. Dr. Betts called 2x to go over the process while we had to wait in car, and walked us through what they did/doing. She was very sweet, thorough, and knew her stuff. We will be back in 3 weeks for bloodwork, and plan to use the vet for near future as our primary because of the great experience we had. Their prices were very reasonable too! Thank you!!
I have taken my pets here for years. The staff is very caring and empathetic. They are willing to go above and beyond. I have worked with Dr Thode and Dr Bystry and they are both wonderful! I will continue to bring my pets here, as well as recommend this facility to others.
I was trying to find out why my pup was drinking so much water and urinating a lot. So I took him to a couple of veterinarians to be diagnosed. they took a lot of tests and they all came back negative. So Wifey suggested we try Sunrise veterinarians because she had dealt with Dr Betts in the past.He took a sonogram and conferred with a couple of other veterinarians and found out my pup had a rare form of diabetes that can be helped with medication.PS thank you Dr Betts and all your staff for your caring and understanding help.
Having a wonderful, caring, Vetinarian, Dr. William Herbold For over 40 years, I was very sad to say goodbye as he had to retire. Our Lexie, A 10-year-old Shih Tzu is “our family,“our baby”. It was definitely an important decision to find a new vet that could meet the standards and caring that we were used to! Lexie had her first visit with Dr Barbara Thode last Tuesday and Lexie and I were made to feel the love and compassion that both the staff and the Doctor displayed. They even came out to meet her, per her and talk to her, putting her at ease. Dr. Thodes prescriptions for Lexie’s problem has really done the trick! I’m more at ease and look forward to the expert care that they will administer to Lexie. The Staff is also friendly, caring, and accommodating! I highly recommend Sunrise Veterinary!
. We arrived on a Monday morning with our dog who was very ill and failing. This was her third trip to a a vet in about a month and the last practice we used saw her twice but misdiagnosed her each time. Doctor Bystry spotted her distress right away, consulted with radiology and gave us the sad news it was really a hopeless case. Three months have gone by and our hearts still ache and our family is still grieving but THANK YOU for the kindness you offered our dog in her final minutes. Only now can I write without bursting into tears because we miss our dog every day. Thank you again. This review is long overdue so please know we appreciated your kindness and the vets knowledge.
Sunrise veterinarian was one of my best places that I would take my baby cotton to go get his checkups and his shot, unfortunately, I lost him 5 months ago so its been very hard on me missing him so much but the staff there are so wonderful and they greet you and care for you and your loving animal its just a great place to bring your pets if you have one
I brought my cat to see Dr Cimetta, she was kind, honest, and explained clearly my cats issues. I would certainly return, and I would recommend anyone person with a pet in need of excellent and honest assessment, and caring, to see Dr. Cimetta. She is the best veterinian I have known.
My vet was on hoilday after xmas it was a raining Friday and my dog has heart issues I called and they took me In right away he could hardly breath i had to put him to sleep and the vet was very sensitive and staff it broke my heart was the worst but i was so amazed with the comparison that this vet had for me and my dog and i was never there my own vet was away and he had a vet taking his place which i was told they were booked for an emergency??? To a vet I been which for years wow so I have to say dr bets thank u for ur kindness on the worst day of my dogs and my life so thank u very much u will always be a vet I would recommend and come to with and when I do have another animal God bless thank u
My morkie nd my bision were ‘fighting“. I think my morkie may hv taken. Bite of the visions dog tag. One of her front teeth was knocked lol. The tooth was hangin n th gob obviously I tested. Not whimpering or crying. But bleeding a little in the mouth. And the tooth was visibly loose and hanging on by a thred.I did a little internet search and realized the possibility of future problems.I called SVG IN WEST ISLIP. They told me to bring her right in.They were so good with her. The doc removed th tooth, put my k9 on a antibiotic and pain med. Also did a little blood work and heart worm 🐛 pills. My bailey come out smiling and wagging her tail. The best part was that the bill was very reasonable. Especially for the care they give her.The staff is caring animal loving people. It was truly a pleasure.Anthony
I take my pets and my rescues to Dr. Bystry. Dr. Bystry and his entire staff are amazing. You can feel immediately that they truly care for the well being of your pet. They are all about doing what needs to be done to get your pet healthy. They do not rape you by running unnecessary test, etc. just to take in more money. They do everything the right way.Ive even seen their staff in tears over the death of one of their patients when its their time to cross Rainbow Bridge. I recommend Dr. Bystry and his staff 1000%!!!
I brought my dog limping with a sprain ankle and a little bleeding wound from her chewing on her leg, she looked at her and said I’m coming back Ill get you an estimate, she came back with an estimate of $1,193.00 and says she needs blood work and xtray Whatttttttt? Is this for real? I can’t afford that, she said well you can buy the antibiotics and a soap and apply it at home, and I did, few days later now my dogs foot is to the side and 2 more holes, she didn’t help me at all she barely even touched my dog, when I went in there I asked her to cure the cuts and pls put on a cast, all she wanted was money. But for 265.00 I got her on a cast and she even got stitches on 2 of her wounds at another place. Stay away from this heartless place all they want is money!!!!

2022-06-18I loved this vet! They took wonderful care of my two dogs for a long time before we were forced to move. Would highly recommend them for any of your vet needs! BONUS: they carry an all in one flea and tick and heart worm med so you don’t need to feed your dog multiple pills each month! 💜

2022-05-07I couldnt recommend Sunrise Veterinary Group enough. The staff is so kind and wonderful. Unfortunately our fur baby just crossed her rainbow bridge and they went above and beyond to help us feel comfortable and ready to say goodbye. The Veterinarian even took extra time to explain everything to my son in a way that was not overwhelming and helped him get the closure he needed to say goodbye to our beloved Daisy. They have always been gentle and loving when weve brought her in the past and this time was no different. I will always recommend them to any pet owner. ❤️🐾

2022-02-19I am so frustrated with an employee here named Lauren J. A year ago, she accidentally sent my records to the previous owner who abused my dog. Today she told me about another 100 something dollar charge, I told her I hadnt heard about this before and was confused- her response was we can just not send the sample. I am upset this was the breaking point, Emma has been going here all her life. However it is clear that there is a huge focus on getting animals in and out the door, maximizing profit, and being inconsiderate to the people who have sick pets. 600$ for blood work. 100$ consultation. 120$ fecal drop off charge which I had been told I wouldnt be getting. I have seen three different vets here, all were generally kind and helpful but felt so rushed. Also as stated, my dog was in an abusive home and was brought here. Made me concerned about the level of care theyd provide. Guess I was right! Lauren, why do you have to make someones difficult day even harder for probably barely above minimum wage? Be a better person.

2022-04-28Super expensive, especially if its at night or weekends as an emergency. Reliable but not worth if you have other options. Only use for true emergencies.

2022-06-30Pricey but the vets & techs here are passionate about what they do. An office visit is $85.

2022-05-11My sister found a kitten in the streets & rescued it. She had to bottle feed it but once he was eating solids she found him his forever home. That home was with me. Since she took Figaro here as a kitten I figured I should just keep him at this vet office since they have his records and know him. I Love it here ! All the vets Ive had are great. I now take my rats here as well.My top two vets though are Dr.Weisberg and Dr.thoed. Dr. Weisberg is for our cat and Dr.Thoed is for my rats.I Love her (Dr.T) she is great with my ratties and you can tell she has experience with working with rats. Im so happy I found her so I dont have to drive out to Huntington anymore for vet visits with my rats.

2022-04-21Dr. Weisberg is the only doctor I trust with my baby Jesse! Every time I’ve been there with Jesse he always remembers everything about Jesse as if he was Dr.Weisbergs own dog, he cares for these pets like their his own. He’s very very patient, kind, informative and extremely helpful. He truly cares for these pets. And I’ve had nothing but good experiences with the other staff as well. Always so kind when I call in. Jesse can definitely be a handful especially considering he’s absolutely terrified of the vet, but the staff is always very understanding and great with him. I can’t recommend Dr. Weisberg and VCA enough.

2022-02-06Never go here they have no idea what they’re doing what they’re talking about and all they seem to care is about “estimate” aka the money. What an absolute joke of a place! 0 stars if i was able to!!
