Sunset Park in other cities:
Awesome park to visit and have a quick picnic, grab some coffee, and sit on a bench, or just to take in the views of Manhattan, NJ, and the Statue of Liberty if youre in the area. There are a whole bunch of fried dumpling, banh mi, bubble tea, and taco shops in thw vicinity to grab some picnic goods.
Great views of Manhattan, NJ, Staten Island toward the West/Southwest. 5th Ave of Sunset Park has on a slope that can be 60 feet above street level.Close to subway (N,D,R). Not far from Industry City, Barclays Center, and Manhattan. 15 minutes or less on the subway brings you to the mentioned locations.
Lovely municipal park in Brooklyn & quite picture worthy - clean & nicely maintained with lots of walkers including mothers & fathers with children. There are swings for kids as shown in my photos. There are also various artworks & a WWI monument. If you stand on the North side of the hill facing towards Manhattan, one can look a bit to the South to see the Statue of Liberty standing tall in the distance across the waters of New York Harbour. We visited the park twice and just across 5th Avenue is the Parkette Cafe so you can get a coffee or nice cup of tea.
The park is alive with people. All ethnicities, ages, singles and families enjoying the crisp air and mild weather. A man is playing a horn, lit courts with children practicing, playground equipment busy, dogs run frisky up and down hills. Some steps and winding sidewalks are kinda steep. Still doable for the less athleticThe elevation of Sunset Park completely removes you from street traffic to emerse yourself with the city skylines, bay views, S O Liberty, rustic beautiful trees, and sunset (literally)
Sunset Park has always been a great and chill place to take walks. Ever since I was little, I always had fun going there with my family. Especially going to those playgrounds. I may be too big and grown for them nowadays, but its still very nice to see kids still playing and having fun altogether. Walking through Sunset Park really helps you take your mind off of any negative thoughts or conflicts that have happened. Just take your time to walk around, feel the sun, and smell the beautiful grass around you. And its even better when youre walking with friends and family members. Talking about any of your problems and how youre feeling while in the park can really help you let go of any stress that is building up inside of you. Im glad Sunset Park is still around. Definitely the best place to unwind from all of the stress and troubles going on in life. Especially in hard times like going through this global pandemic.
Great park and the parks department is investing more into this park. The children playground is brand new, the pool is clean, and there is a new soccer/baseball field that lights up at night till midnight. Another new outdoor gym is gonna be added to the park next to the sprinkler section. Dogs are welcomed and off leash is allowed after 9pm to 7am.
The park is 164 feet above sea level (one of the highest spots in New York City) so it offers commanding views of the neighborhood, the Lower Manhattan skyline and the Statue of Liberty - thus a good place to have a picnic. On the Fourth of July, if the Macys fireworks are set off on the East River below 34th Street, the park is a fun place to be a spectator.
I grew up with Sunset Park and I recently visited two weekends ago, which was the first time for a couple of years. The moment I walked to one of the parks corners.. I was immediately weighed down with crazy emotions, thats how much the park means to people like me.The current soccer/baseball field used to be a concrete floor now its a turf field... the playground is brand new... the pool facility also seemed to have received some new touches... near the basketball courts theyve added an area where you can play volleyball. With all that being said, they have not changed the wonderful, historic atmosphere of the park. The view into the city from the park? Cannot be duplicated.Take it from me, you will NOT be disappointed.
The comfort of the black bench, warm from the steady sun, is a place to absorb the beauty of the park, the beauty of a joyful community at play. The trees that root so deep and reach so high, that take in the rain and bring the gifts of verdant foliage upon brown wands - they are my friends, my anchors in emotional waters. They are the park. They are the beauty. They are what brings serene reverence when I have the need. Some mornings the sun beams across the sky, which is not quite blue yet, but the sun has almost fully risen. When the wind blows, it grazes over the blades of grass. Some days I just stand and take a deep breath in and I can taste the spring. When summer comes around, and the bees are buzzing, and the hot sun beats on the back of my neck, I lay on the soft grass and listen, to the birds chirping a beautiful song, and the kids playing in the park.
I hesitate to say how much I love it cause I dont want it to get all crowded like Red Hook. I swim in the big section for lap swimming and its never crowded. Users are friendly and respectful, life guards are on it. The park here is lovely and its making my summer sweet.
One of the best parks in the city now.. the turf, the playground, movies in the park, the awesome pool, the rec center. Good for kids. All seemingly safe these days. Great tall trees and such a beautiful vibe any time of day -- especially at sunset. Police patrol regularly so thats helped but you can still do whatever you need/want to..
I remember moving out and leaving Sunset Park at 17 only to return in my 40s because it is still the hood with the best views and the most beautiful park in the city. The diversity has always been welcomed, in my lifetime, it is the best park for whatever in nyc. It will always be my backyard/patio. There are tables for games and picnic. The pool is well maintained and it is as clean as can be. The views of nyc make it a fantastic place.
This is a slice of nature and peace in a bustling area of Brooklyn. The local businesses are a treat from the old to the new. A stroll, a sit, or a run at any time of day is relaxed and beautiful. The zoning codes prevent buildings below from blocking the view. So, as the name implies, enjoy the sunset
Nice view of the city from this park. Quiet, even though the various sections were occupied with people. Great Community feel. The young CEO of Hood Works was giving out free food stuff to anyone who lined up to grab a bag. [Mamma Jennifer is a trip!] The guys at the art walk shared their mask packets as a show of support... Brooklyn Love!
Probably one of the places that has the best view of south of Manhattan, Jersey City and more. Its a bustling place pretty much all the time frequented by the locals, a balanced and interesting mix of Chinese and Hispanics. Mostly feels like a safe place though I havent been there much after sunset. Good dating place and also very family friendly.
Ive lived in Sunset for 27 years, and as I grow the Park feels like it grows with me. As of lately its been having very Latin Prospect Park Vibes, which I love. Diversity city! Super dog friendly! Nice big open grass spaces, good for picnicking. Also very clean, I havent ever stepped in poop while walking with my dog through the grass, which says alot for being in Brooklyn and all. The pool is always a summer must for the kids and the sprinklers always hit the spot on a hot day. My dog loves this park just as much as I do and hes only known it for 3 years 😄 Definitely a staple of the community I love!
A great park with a great view. There is a record center and a pool. There are plenty of benches to enjoy the view of the city. The playground has good equipment but it is overcrowded on the weekends. There is a sand pit, a car table and three jungle gyms. The main field is on a hill that is a bit patchy so bring something to sit on. The crowd is mostly families and no drama. Bring some food with you. Otherwise you are going to have to take a long walk up and down the hill.
Great place to chill. You can see most of NYC biggest buildings and also sunsets are pretty good. There’s a pool open to the public during the summer so that’s a good spot to go swimming.Nice Recreational Park. Outdoor swimming pool and Recreation Center. It may be only four square blocks however spectacular views because it is on a hill. In addition too many recreational fields there are plenty of benches to relax enjoy the view. Primarily Asian population Park is used mostly by families. It is an oasis in Sunset Park that should not be overlooked
Playground fading away. With all the on going construction, not many people walk around. At least the basketball court and the soccer field is a nice touch. Now with the completion of the construction, its a grand improvement. Honestly wish I had this in my childhood. Oh well, its still a sight when walking pass. Sand pit is a new addition.
It has a beautiful view. I used to live within walking distance. I moved to Jersey City a few years ago, but when I visit my family in the Sunset Park neighborhood, I stop there to see the view of NYC. I wouldnt move back to Sunset Park. I love JC. But SP is very nice neighborhood.
You cant beat the view and the feeling of community. From the park you can actually view both the sunrise and the sunset. I used to go here for running - its hilly and its great for training. Theres a soccer field, handball court, recreation centre, swimming pool and more. Even a farmers market. Its smaller and not as touristy as other parks in BK.
The park itself is beautiful because you literally can see sunset. There are handball, tennis, basketball, soccer court and childrens playground. It has large grass area where you can picnic or just enjoy the beautiful scenery. In some areas, people pee in the bushes which make it smelly. I wish they have an additional bathroom building to support a big crowd.
Beautiful park with incredible views! The rec center and pool is fantastic for the neighborhood. I wish there was better landscaping though. A lot of the grass is always dead, even in the spring and there are some ill places trees that get right in the way of the view from the best viewing spots
Fantastic park in all seasons! This is one of the first places we take friends visiting from out of town for the awesome views it affords of the Manhattan skyline and the Statue of Liberty. Its very impressive. Its quiet and has a good sledding hill in the winter and nice place to hang out in the summer. No one ever comes around checking what you are eating or drinking. The summers can get SUPER crowded though, and the music/soccer/giant family picnics can get pretty annoying. But, most times were able to find a spot to relax.
Theres nothing better than the view of the city from a sunset park hill. You can see the water, the ferries and even the statue of liberty from here. The park accommodates a picnic you will want to have with a partner or a big family. Leaving lots of open grass space in between. The newly renovated playground offers many activities for a child to do, including a sand play area.
Nice Recreational Park.
An absolutely fantastic park! There is a great view, a huge swimming pool, a water spray area, a (soon to be) awesome playground, nice open fields, courts for basketball/soccer/etc, a track, a rec center, and a ton of events.I moved to this area because it was less expensive than my previous neighborhood and now I dont want to leave, partly due to the awesomeness of this park.
Its a small park and nice to have, but really isnt much too it besides the views of lower Manhattan since its on a hill. Has a basketball court, handball and public outdoor swimming pool. It is easily crowded and noisy on the weekends and summer early evenings, being small and a neighborhood park.I wish the neighborhood took more pride in this park and kept it cleaner. Tons of garbage and plastic bags, bottles and trash left everywhere and no one seems to pick up after themselves and the grass needs more tending too and the landscaping could be better cared for by the Parks Department and or neighborhood/schools/garden community. With that said it is however a diverse mix of Spanish and Chinese which gives it a unique cultural experience. You have the evening Tai Chi and Chinese line exercises which is great to watch and makes you think youve traveled to another part of the world and the park itself, is very family oriented with young and old enjoying it.It does keep to its name sake Sunset Park offering beautiful sunset views. With the diversity, there is plenty of eats around and cheap stores and fruit stands. I wouldnt dismiss going outdoors and enjoying the park, just would be great to keep it cleaner and have more thoughtful people pick up after themselves from a picnic, hence 4 stars.
This park is very small however, there is lots of space for sporting activities. Basketball courts, soccer field, swimming pool, playground, etc ..The views from here are amazing, you could see downtown Manhattan very clearly.Lately it has gotten way too crowded especially on weekends so if you are planing a picnic and/or relaxing on the grass, go to a bigger park.Last I was there, teenage kids were smoking weed everywhere, you couldnt get a way from the smell even if you wanted to.There are also some places where youll always see homeless men drunk and/or sleeping.More police should patrol this park as it has potential and could became a great little park for kids and adults alike.
A wonderful place on a hill where you can see everything. There is a park for the kids and so much open space. There is a Baseball field. And so much more space. Lastly, at the end of the day you can see the sunset and see everything. The city, the twin towers, Brooklyn.
They fixed up this place since I was a kid 30something odd years ago, very nice and clean surprisingly, playground is nice and modernized... nice sprinklers, sandlot, rubber mats for safety..and you cannot get tired of the city skyline view. Great place for taking pictures
This is a childhood staple for me many a memories have been experienced here. Phenomenal views of downtown Manhattan and statute of liberty. Yeah the hill climb is serious and tiresome but once u get right before the basketball courts turnaround face the river and sit one of the most relaxing scenery you can enjoy especially at sunset and during 4th of July. Yeah its always full of people but thats what a park should be like. The pool is good.
Great place to hang out in the summer and spring they have Great Park there they they just renovated the playground to the kids and they also have a pool there its local beautiful Asian culture there they do a lot of off Tai Chi and things like that in the morning so youll see huge groups out doing it its actually very beautiful
The park is great with the view, however the park isnt as clean but I dont blame the workers cause the park is really big, there are many activities to do there, theres a play ground, many tables and benches, great sunset view, view of new jersey and Manhattan ( Lower part of Manhattan) and Staten island, pretty windy during the spring season which makes its great for flying kites, theres a recreation Park which requires you to make an ID which cost 18+ members a fee for making the card, theres also a park restroom.

2022-05-15Such a gorgeous view of the Manhattan skyline and the harbor and, as the name would suggest, the perfect spot to catch a beautiful sunset. Lots of areas to picnic and play volleyball, basketball, etc. Worth a visit - check out the many nearby Fujianese and Mexican spots while youre in the area.

2022-05-03Great place to chill and relax or even walk your dog. People are taking a nap, camping, reading, climbing trees, skateboarding, etc,. Close to Industry City, come visit if you are around. We haven’t been to sunset period, maybe next time.

2022-06-26Really nice park. We went because we thought they had a fenced in dog park, but it was just an off leash lawn in the middle of the whole park. Ended up taking our dog elsewhere, but definitely plan on coming back without the dog to enjoy the area.

2022-02-22One of the most beautiful neighbourhood parks with a great view of manhattan and the Statue of Liberty; and as its name imply the park is the best place to watch the sunset, in addition to plenty of other activities you can do.

2022-03-11I love Sunset Park but I brought my cat out to play and see how he liked the grass but there was not much grass. They really need to work on the landscaping.

2021-08-21Great park for a relaxed day in Brooklyn. The skyline view from here is spectacular. There are eateries around to enjoy food while you lounge in the park. Parking is hard to find especially during weekends.

2021-07-05Nice, peaceful relaxing day at the park. My family and I came from the Bronx to buy some mangoneadas. We saw this park on our way to nieves tia Mami. We risked coming here, even though it was kind of crowded and really hot. I definitely recommend this park to relax and enjoy the view of the city.
