This is a really yummy sushi restaurant in upper west side. About half a block from the subway, they specialize in sushi (duh) and have a variety of Asian drinks like sake. The akadashi miso soup had a great consistency and tasted fresh. Better than most miso soup I’ve had. Of the sushi we got, my favorite was the Ume Shiso roll (if you’ve never had shiso before then please do yourself a favor and try it!). I wasn’t the biggest fan of oshinko but the kampyo had a unique taste that I’d also recommend trying out.Great place for dates or dinner with friends. Highly recommend getting reservations esp on weekend nights because we tried to walk-in once (with 3) and couldn’t get a table at all.
Great dinner! Quality sushi was great, especially the mini omakase, which was our favorite. Large amount of appetizers as well, there vegetable tempura was amazing, came with 3 different types of salt, dipping sauce and so many different kinds of vegetables. Everything was delicious. Hope they have the regular omekase back soon, would love to try it!
I ordered their kansai udon (light bonito broth, tempura flakes, scallion, seaweed, sesame seeds and fish cake) and a yellowtail scallion maki. i was incredibly pleased with the udon texture and the flavor of the broth. the noodles had the perfect “elastic bounce” and slippery texture that you want to look for in udon. their yellowtail roll was extremely fresh and delicious. the fish was of high quality and the ratio to rice was perfect. the rice also had the perfect stickiness/consistency. i came back for a second time and ordered their sushi deluxe entree (not pictured) and was blown away by how fresh every piece of fish was. highly recommend checking them out!
For a restaurant of this type and price point, I felt it was overall average.Tried one of the miyabi sushi platters for dinner. Sushi rice was ok, a bit mushy. Fish was generally ok, salmon tasted a bit above average but rest of the fish was ordinary. At ~40 post tax and tip, it wasnt cheap either. Maybe better for lunch deals.Service was ok. Asked for their recommendation on the chefs roll and they told me to look at the menu, might have been a misunderstanding.
I’m looking for real Japanese food in NYC. My Japanese friend recommend this restaurant to me, and it tasted very very good. I had lunch special and vegetable tempura, which are as good as I had eaten in Japan. And the price is also reasonable! I’ll visit again and again!!
It was a late night supper, Japanese food were definitely a good choice! The sushi 🍣 were fresh, avocado rolls were tasty although it’s localised dishes 🥑 cannot reduced at all. The teriyaki cod with hajikami plate was delicious and authentic. The take away system was good for take away order, fast and effective.
I’d like to formally announce that Sushi Yasaka has hopped into the spotlight for the favorite sushi place.I have been getting takeout from here for as long as the eye can see and it’s always delicious, well packed, and at an excellent price. We were ravenous on Sunday and walked in and decided to order a couple rolls and I was reminded why it’s my favorite. The fish is SO fresh, the ambiance is really quite exceptional (similar to an interrogation room but in the best connotation possible). Service is fab.The negi tori was unreal. I’m still thinking about it. Also they have very reasonably priced omakase.Live laugh love your way into this restaurant folks.
Delivery meal to UWS after long day on the road-- 2 adults, 2 children. A sampling of rolls and nigiri, a lovely salad with micro-greens and flora, two different seaweed salads (the one we know and a different, more umami one) and a dark miso. Value was about what wed expect from above average sushi in NYC. Location saved for next visit!
Sushi Yasaka is one of the best sushi restaurants that I’ve been to so far. The line was long, but to me that’s a sign of “I’m in the right place”. Their Miyabi lunch special was so good! I got to have everything that I wished for: sushi, sashimi, and a roll! They did a great job making the the nigiri, where the fish was cut in the right shape and stick very well with the rice. Their rice was super yummy, sticky, and did not fall apart.I ordered to-go via their website. It was easy and fast. I got an estimate and a text when it was ready. The fish were still super fresh when I got back home in a hot day. Once every thing is open, indefinitely will try to dine in with my family!
The quality of fish is supreme. I ordered four maki rolls: spicy tuna, spicy salmon, yellow tail jalapeño and California roll. And I also got the seaweed salad. Each roll was around $6.00 and the seaweed salad was $8.00. I was extremely satisfied and full with those four rolls. I was trying to stay without a budget and noticed it was more affordable to order individual rolls than to order from their combination roll specials. So watch out for that. One thing I found a bit different was the soy sauce, it tasted a bit tangy and not like the typical soy sauce. The quality of sushi is good enough where you wouldn’t need to dip in soy sauce but if you do then first see how you like it before fully indulging in it.The service was excellent and it was very clean. The atmosphere is dim and ideal for a date night. I would highly recommend to try this spot out. I can’t wait to go back for some more of that Yellow tail jalapeños rolls!
Great experience! They sat us right away on a Friday night. Food came out fast and was delicious! Been a trouble finding good sushi in the UWS but super happy Yasaka came recommended. I would recommend planning ahead and making reservations as it did seem like it booked up fairly quickly. Will certainly be back soon!!
Sushi Yasaka is a hidden gem on the west side. Delicious menu, fresh ingredients, masterful technique, and great service really elevates this sushi spot. The assortment of sashimi I got was fresh, well cut, and had great texture. I would highly recommend this place for lunch or dinner.
Very good, very local, smallish Japanese sushi restaurant. Came too late for the full omakase, so I got the mini. Still a good deal. The chef choice roll (maki) and chef selected nigiri were all great. I enjoyed watching the sushi bar (covid prevented me from sitting at the bar). The miso soup was standard for a place like this. And sake was also excellent (Masumi). If go back again.
Amazing budget friendly sushi place. The quality to price ratio is great. Had the tofu appetizer which is something I’ve never tried before!! The tofu was extra crispy and firm, situated in a warm broth that was both sweet and tangy. A perfect compliment to a chilly night in NYC. I also got a few rolls to split with a friend. I have to say I’m usually underwhelmed by shrimp tempura rolls but this tempura batter was one of the best I’ve had. The quality of the fish was also great.Overall, really enjoyed dining here, the service and staff are wonderful. My only recommendation would be that the rolls seem to come apart a bit and I’m sure that can be fixed quite easily.
This is by far one of my favorite sushi places to go to in NYC! Very decently priced and high quality sashimi. I usually get the deluxe cause it comes with the oyster - that raw, juicy, just-so-darn-good oyster taste oyster (just thinking about it makes me want some!) Their fried oyster is very good too! Great sushi restaurant on the upper west side!
Excellent quality seafood at this restaurant. Even the most simple hand rolls are amazing. Prepared very well. I particularly loved the spicy tuna and the special spicy salmon rolls that were my favorite, also enjoyed the basic salmon avocado and tuna avocado as well.
You know a restaurant is good if you are eating the food even though you aren’t that hungry. I highly recommend the lunch kitchen tray - with the chicken. Most items on the menu are 16-20$ but well worth it because you get so much! So be prepared to eat. This place is packed though, so you may need to wait a little unless you get to the restaurant early when it opens.Service is fast and efficient, I got my food in about ten minutes.I believe one of the more authentic Japanese restaurants I have been to in NYC
Possibly the best sushi Ive had. And at its price point thats says a lot 50$ For an omakase is fantastic .the toronegi hand roll was delish and 12 nigiri were great, king salmon, fatty tuna belly, anago(sea eel, way better than unagi), the selection was high quality and diverse
I’ve been coming here since they opened. Ever since the pandemic started their quality of sushi has constantly gone down. If you raise the prices on all your menu, the least you can do is to maintain the same level of quality but no. Tonight’s sushi deluxe became my final time ordering from here. I’ve never seen such sushi deluxe in my life. You should call it a Leftover Deluxe. That uni and ikura were really dry too.
I had the mini Omakase and it was superb! Each piece has that melt in the mouth texture and very fresh. The waitresses were very friendly too! Sitting at the counter was a great experience since I get to see the ingredients. But since i had the mini omakase I didnt really get to communicate much with the chef tho (well, they were super busy too).
No frill sushi place with top-class omakase at affordable price. When you feel like youre done with take-out sushi place quality but dont really know whether its a good idea to spend $200 per person for omakase in Midtown, this is a fantastic midway. Superb location, great service, wonderful Sapporo draft.
Amazing 12 piece omakase plus a chefs selection hand roll for only $50. Fish served is very high quality and included types such amberjack, fatty tuna, king salmon, uni, unagi, etc. You pay less than half as what you would at places like Sushi Nakazawa and reservations arent even required. Highly recommend if youre in the Lincoln Center area or UWS.
Best sushi with reasonable price. I know there are those $300 per person sushi places in NYC which I didnt bother. I live in CA so Im used to good sushi but this place is probably my favorite place in the whole US. The price is reasonably expensive. Its not cheap in any means but considering the quality, the accessibly and the fact its in Manhattan, I love it. My favorite is the selection of different fish and especially the California roll with real king crab is amazing.
I love Sushi Yasaka. I always go here when Im in town. Their process are reasonable and the quality is always good. Wait times are a bit long but definitely worth the wait. Better to get a reservation. I always get the mink fish liver, agedashi tofu, and uni as appetizers. I love the way the prepare the monk fish. Its the foie gras of the sea.
Sushi Yasaka is a medium sized sushi restaurant in Manhattan. Dim but well lit, the environment is calm and perfect for anyone looking to either dine alone or with a group. Just make sure you have a reservation because this place is PACKED and every time I came to NY this place is fully booked the day of. So plan accordingly.I ordered the Sushi Deluxe as well as some a la Carte nigiri. Total came out to be about $70 but well worth the cost. The sushi is very fresh and exquisite and although the wasabi definitely is not real wasabi, it’s one of the higher quality horseradish that I’ve had.For the a la carte items I tried the giant scallop, the toro and sweet shrimp. The toro is AMAZING. I definitely believe it is well worth it and I had to order to individual orders because it was that good and melt in your mouth.Overall the sushi is very flavorful and there was no “fishy” taste. Highly recommend this place although it is on the pricey side but that’s what you expect when going to a sushi restaurant.
Amazing Sushi and Teriyaki! We (3 German tourists) ate here two days ago.We loved the food, the service and the location.Service: professional and calm. Just how asian service should be.The Food: The most important part. The Sushi was amazing. Not the best that Ive ever eaten, but very good. The menu down below is priced at $28 (at least I think so) and what you get is a nice selection of Nigiri Sushi with very good fish. The Maki was also amazing. If you wouldve bought the Nigiri by its own (not as a pre-set plate), it wouldve been way more expensive. But as a plate, this was very affordable and good Sushi. One of my companions ate Teriyaki. This was also very good and worth the money. To conclude: I recommend it to everybody who likes Sushi or Japanese food. Though you are not allowed to have a soy allergy :D.Thank you guys at Sushi Yasaka. Will come again, if Ill visit NY for the next time.P.S.: You *must* book a table. You will have to wait, even early and on business days.
Very good sushi spot, there was a little wait because it was busy. Staffs were nice and friendly but the service was fair. Atmosphere felt comfortable and cozy. The food was decently price and I definitely recommend the omakase. Overall pretty good place to bring a date and friends.
This is my probably my favorite UWS restaurant and definitely my favorite for sushi. It is great for lunch or dinner. Last time the mille crepe cake felt a bit heavy and pushed me over the edge but it is tasty and special. Sitting at the bar is fun and there is attentive, if a little brusque, service. Prices are fair, especially for the lunch specials. I recommend always getting a reservation as it is often full! I look forward to coming again soon!
Between myself and my family we eat or take out or order in from Sushi Yasaka at least twice a week. Sometimes, more than that. The fish is always fresh and the food is almost always good but the attitude of the reception ladies is APPALLING. I have never complained except once when I was given the wrong item and it was a ordeal to explain what had happened as the receptionist INSISTED I WAS WRONG. And then, when I recently got a delivery and all of the $35.00 Sashimi Combo which was smashed onto one side of the flimsy container with the top loose. Instead of gracious accepting that this was the case, I go a lecture from the receptionist about what happens on the bikes They she insisted on a replacement or an exchange but at no point did she say Im sorry and well credit you for the dish which was inedible. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT? (Even when thats not the case.) I called the restaurant today to speak with the manager but the receptionist would give me no information. It was like pulling teeth to get the name - HIRO. But they didnt know where he was, when they might see him, nor were they willing to take a message for him to give me a ring. Such a shame that they are so cheap and shortsighted that that cant do the right thing and care so little about their clientele. It will be a different story when life resumes to normal and their business subsides with this kind of attitude. So disappointing as we were regulars. Thats over!!!! Its also possible that our building will suspend deliveries from this restaurant.
Had the Chefs regular omakase and tatsuta age (chicken) and everything was phenomenal. Tatsuta age had a really nice sauce that was mixed with cod roe and the omakase was absolutely amazing given that its only 55pp. Would recommend getting a reservation at least a day before as this place gets really crowded around 6-8.
Their sushi is very fresh and well balanced. The rice and the fish goes together perfectly. I can say it is one of the best sushi place I know and for the price point it might be the best place I know. Especially during the lunch time they have lunch special that is ridiculously priced. People line up before opening during the lunch. One the most authentic sushi place in NYC.
This was a great place. Their udon noodle soup was really good, and their tea was lovely. First, you are given starters. You can be given a salad or soup. The soup was very good. The menu is very large, but most of it is sushi. I think that there should be a few more food items on the menu that are not sushi. I got the udon noodle soup. The noodles were very good and thick, and the soup was nice and flavorful. The service was also very good. The servers were very friendly. The atmosphere was fine. I did not like the lighting, though. There could have been a few more lights, or maybe the lights they have now could be a big better. The atmosphere is ok. It is not too loud, but not too quiet.
Amazing sushi especially for the price. I highly recommend the omakase which gives you the freshest and most in-season fish and seafood available to the chefs. Each piece is served at a great temperature, some with thoughtful additions that highlight and enhance the flavor profiles of the fish. The only problem was that the entire meal is served at once in a non specific order on the plate, which is different from more expensive omakase sushi experiences which attempt to choreograph a flow to the meal. For the price though, this is not a problem at all!
We walked into a crowded Sunday evening with no reservation and got lucky to find a small table by the window. Ordered sushi/sahsimi combination, some tempura, unagi don and green tea. All were amazingly delicious. Will repeat again first chance. Great buy as well in terms of price/quality ratio.
My wife and I were looking for sushi before a show at the Beacon Theater and stumbled uopn this gem. The sushi is super fresh and the service is the best Ive had in a long time. When someone jumped the line, Thomas was especially helpful in getting us seated quickly. This is our go to sushi spot on the UWS.
One of the Best Japanese food places weve tried in the past few years, top notch everything, its packed so make a reservation. Tempura batter is light and not greasy, served w sauce and salts for dipping, lotus squash shrimp onions oyster mushrooms sweet potatoes and hot peppers. The chirashi was beautiful and had a fresh marinated oyster along with a nice creamy custardy tamago. Sushi sashimi lunch was perfect and Toro was so buttery, came with an eel avocado roll, best grilled eel Ive had in a long while 3+ years, next time I will order unagi don 🐍🐍🐍
We came here during our visit to NYC. We didnt have any reservation and came in just as they open at 5:15 pm on a weekday and we were lucky to get a seat for two, after 5 minutes the tables got filled quickly. I ordered the sushi omakase (chefs choice), everything tasted so good and fresh, my personal favourite is the uni - so delicious! If youre looking for an authentic sushi in NYC but dont want to break the bank Sushi Yasaka is the place to go.
Sushi Yasaka is probably the best value for your money for quality sushi in Manhattan. Its one of my absolute favorite sushi restaurants in Manhattan. Ive been coming for a couple years now, but since Ive changed jobs Ive not had an opportunity to come as often as I did in the past which Im bummed about. But the dozen or more times Ive eaten here in the past its always been very very good. My husband and I always compare other sushi restaurants to it in terms of price and quality because to us, its the perfect combination of sushi quality compared to reasonableness in price. In addition to sushi, their cooked food is also really good. We especially like the fried shrimp donut shaped appetizers which always comes out freshly fried, but we also really love that they have the Lady M green tea crepe cake here as a dessert option. Its an extremely popular place now and for good reason. We used to be able to get reservations fairly easily in the past (booking the week of or a couple days before), but its best to probably book a week beforehand since the restaurant isnt the biggest. The hostess turns people away practically every time weve dined because its always at capacity. If you like good quality sushi for a great price, you wont be disappointed here.
My bf and I ordered food from this place, we were excited to eat from here and we ordered 3 rolls spicy tuna, eel avocado, even paid extra $3 for the shrimp tempura roll and 2 rolls lunch with spicy tuna and spicy salmon. We were both looking forward it but turns out the sushi was not fresh at all and we have been eating buying sushi out at other places but so far this place is terrible. Immediately after eating from here I had to puke out all the food I ate. I felt so horrible I feel like I got food poisoning and after I contacted the restaurant and turned out they have the worst customer service, the lady was so insensitive and really made me feel even worse. I would think twice about ordering from here if you dont want to end up puking all night. I would advise to stay away.
Came here for the lunch special ($16 for 3 sushi rolls & miso soup) and it did not disappoint at all. Quality of the salmon and tuna were amazing. Melt in your mouth. The staff were incredibly friendly & very COVID-19 safe with lots of social distancing, masks worn properly, and the eating utensils all individually wrapped. Would love to come here again to try more of the menu. An absolute gem of NYC!
This is my favorite sushi place for this price point. Everything is super fresh and delicious. I’ve been coming here for many years and have never been disappointed, unless they have no room to seat walk ins. Make a reservations for all times, lunch and early dinner including. They get packed !They have great lunch specials andAll of their appetizers are delicious.Bring your appetite !! 🍣🍤🥟🍱🍰🍶🍻
This place is so awesome! It has such a nice ambience and our waiter was very friendly to us even though we werent too familiar with everything on the menu. The sushi deluxe was phenomenal, it honestly tasted like heaven (just like everything else Ive ordered - which was quite a lot). It was a unique experience and I cant wait to come back again. I can only recommend it to anyone who loves sushi!
Great Place for lunch and DinerNothing pretentious! just great quality fish and food at agreat priceIts why i come back again and pass on the word.the only point they should look at:they always run out of premium sake and served me the same excuse than the last two time i went there ! Manager should work into a replacement and resolve this problem ..
Uptown, where everything is glitzy and expensive, this place stands out. Its tiny and its noisy. Its also excellent. No frills, not too pricey, and outstanding sushi. Its as good as anything in Manhattan, yet affordable and delicious. Its like you are surrounded by normal people just enjoying a good meal at reasonable prices. Good sake menu also. Great choice in this part of town

Whenever you are in UWS, you should definitely try you luck and try to get in to Sushi Yasaka. Why? Because it has absolutely amazing food, when it comes down to fish and specially raw fish I always look for the freshest one, walking in the restaurant setting its not really appealing as the food is. Sushi absolutely outstanding as I havent tried before, from the miso soup to the sushi bar was spot on and flavor in every bite. Definitely I will be back soon, if you decide to go remember to make a reservation otherwise its about luck to get in to enjoy their food.
Sushi Yasaka totally blew my expectations away. Tucked into a small, unassuming building, it offers an authentic line up for Japanese food (mainly sushi) in an intimate room. I highly recommend the tempura dishes and any of the sushi rolls. The fish is fresh, prepared delicately and does not disappoint. The service is authentically Japanese: polite & knowledgeable, tough sometimes hard to understand. Reservations are recommended, though not too difficult to come by.
The sushi was really diverse, fresh, and delicious! I had no complaints about any of the food - the service was really great too. Their staff was very friendly and helpful in identifying what was what. Overall, a great place with high quality sushi at really reasonable prices. Ill definitely be back again.
Pretty damn good sushi here. The fish is probably the freshest in the city with many options to choose from. The staff is friendly and food is prepared pretty swiftly. The prices are pretty decent as well. My only negative is the portions are kind of small. That being said, the portion size should not turn you away as the fish is amazing.Definitely give this place a try if you are on the UWS. Its always packed as well, so I suggest making a reservation.
Wonderful succulent always fresh sushi. This is primarily what I order so cant speak much to the rest of the menu. SY is the ONLY real sushi place on the upper west side. Priced reasonably as well. Also, what I love, is the service, both inside the restaurant pre covid and now, for delivery. Always on time and with exactly what you ordered, and with their own delivery men, no grub hub or outside service, which guarantees on time delivery. I order here at least twice a week. Their lunch special is economical.
This is the place to go for quality sushi in Manhattan. I always come here when Im in town. The chirashi and sushi combo are great. The dinner omakase is very good but a bit pricey for the amount of food. Still, Yasaka beats many Michelin starred sushi places in town. Highly recommend.
This place is exquisite! Would easily recommend to family and friends. The sushi is top shelf and the service is incredibly kind and attentive. Definitely worth a trek out of your way for dinner or lunch. Plus the fried ice cream they offer is a great treat to finish off the meal.

I loved this place. First rate sushi and sashimi, as well as other Japanese dishes. Great service, there were at least five sushi chefs that I saw. maybe more. Everything in season was on the menu, and you were served very quickly. A bit crowded, but it really wasnt a problem. Good idea to make reservations.
My favorite spot for sushi in the city! The quality is high but the prices are much more affordable than I would have expected. Its quite small inside so make sure to get a reservation if you are planning a meal around a busy time. There is an extensive selection of vegetarian and meat selections.
I am not the biggest fan of sushi but friends wanted to try it. Its a pretty busy place in the UWS. It gets packed quickly and I can see why. The food and sushi is fresh. The rice to fish ratio was perfect. The portions are definitely filling. Dont judge but the japanese pickle with sweet potato sushi was quite tasty. Prices are affordable for the neighborhood and I left happy with a full tummy but not so empty wallet.
The gold standard for a great roll in the upper west side. The place is extremely reasonably priced, and youll leave feeling like you got more than you paid for. I would highly suggest making reservations if you want to eat here, because its not a very big place, and doesnt have a lot of seats. Its always packed, one hundred percent of the time. Everything is top notch and fresh. The menu is much larger and more extensive than the vast majority of their competitors. They have some interesting things here you wont find anywhere else like the pumpkin tempura roll. Sounds weird, I know, but its amazing. They even have some nice steaks and seafood selections here that are more American style if you are bringing someone who is a little weary of a true Japanese experience. For some reason the miso soup here tastes better to me than other places around the area.
Best place to get a budget omakase on the UWS, plus there is a wide variety of other Japanese items on the menu. I typically come for the sushi and have never been disappointed. It can get crowded and at times be loud but, that make it feel like it’s everyone’s favorite local sushi place. Very high-quality fish and reasonable prices. Will be going back many times!
Even in COVID times this place delivers consistent pleasure and all around positive experience. Their food is inventive in design and prepared from highest quality fish. The timng of their delivery and pick up beats the German Railways. Their customer service and notification system is friendly and intuitive
Very affordable family-friendly Japanese restaurant. The vibe is a bit hectic, predictably with kids being loud and all. The food is pretty good and affordable. Its a good spot for lunch. Their rolls, sashimi and soba are all good. But 3/5 because personally I didnt love its ambiance.
Place was popping when I showed up. I was able to get a seat at the sushi bar as a walk in but looks like thats not a common occurrence here. They served the whipped style wasabi that has 0 kick. They didnt bring me a water until I asked. Dont get your gyoza fried.. it tastes terrible.. idk why thats even an option. Spicy salmon & spicy tuna roll took 40 minutes to come out. They were irregularly shaped and not appetizing. No one came to refill my water. I wanted to love this place but Ive had better.
The food was decent and good value but by god please train your staff. Japanese food is not just about the food, its also about the experience while youre there. The lady who served us tonight sounded she was Vietnamese and had absolutely no patience!!! Tapping her pen on the menu when we were ordering as if we werent fast enough, subsequently just throwing every dish down. She did the same thing to the next table and I heard them call her back a few times. Dinner was nice but the service really ruined it for me.
I have to say this is arguably the best sushi Ive had on the upper west side. The prices were quite reasonable and the service was standard, but the fish itself was very high quality and evidently fresh. I would definitely recommend checking out their omakasr option as well but its hard to go wrong with nearly anything on the menu.
When you truly think about the low and high quality of food that you can find in the world today it’s absolutely unbelievable when you come in here and you experience the amazing amazing cooking by these high quality experience the shaft. It’s truly mind blowing the amount of time that they must put into their ingredients and recipes and everything that they do to slowly end up with this amazing amazing meal. But at the end of the day at all came down to the service which was absolutely outstanding phenomenal people phenomenal stuff all around. Absolutely looking forward to recommended him at this place did many people
The sushi at Yasaka is amazing! So fresh, tastes great in the restaurant or delivered. Definitely some of the best sushi in the city at any price point! The restaurant doesnt have much of an ambiance and I would recommend making reservations if you want to eat since the wait times can be crazy.
I ordered food to go about half an hour before they closed and was delighted that the same great quality Id experienced in the restaurant was evident in the to go food. Very pleasant staff and super fresh sushi. The fried oysters were gone before we got to our picnic in Central Park! Great sushi and sashimi. Nice atmosphere, attentive staff. The toro tartare is fantastic. And all this very reasonably priced. One of my NY favorite restaurants!
Im so glad I follow Google reviews when looking for a spot. As the highest rated sushi spot in the area, this place does not disappoint. Possibly the best food to cost ratio Ive had in the city. Amazingly fresh and skillfully prepared. Hands down, the BEST omakase value youll ever find
Had lunch which was excellent. Went for the sushi deluxe, a dragon roll and rainbow rolls. Also a selection of appetizer s including edamame, fried chicken, aged tofu, and fried oysters. Everything was excellent although I would have liked the batter on the fried oysters to be lighter. The service was excellent and the priceice for quality in Manhattan is amongst some of the best restaurants. Cant wait to go back.
Im so happy I finally tried this place. I went in totally comparing it to my favorite Tapas restaurant in Soho, so I had high expectations. They have a very similar menu so I was so hopeful that the food was good and everything we ordered far exceeded my expectations. We came in very late( like 15 min til closing) ,which I know is annoying to servers but we still received great service. Lamb chops... Super tender and seasoned perfectly. Flat breads. Croquettes. Spinach. Patatas. The portions are the same if not larger than every Tapas restaurant Ive been too and the decor and ambience is great. Definitely my new spot for dinner.
Kind of blase service, indifferent. Food was fine but a bit on the expensive side. I am an unagi lover and tend to judge all sushi restaurants based on that first and this one was not good. It is supposed to be served freshly grilled on room temperature rice but arrived straight out of cold storage. Very small sushi slices for the prices they have, barely bigger than the rolled rice.
Love coming back here. Its always packed so its best to come with a reservation.Instead of the omakase, we got the sushi deluxe (9 pc with roll of choice), sushi lunch, and miyabi lunch. The fish is always fresh. The eel avocado roll is some of the best Ive had. The appetizers also come out hot and fresh (we got the age dashi tofu and the mixed tempura). This is one of the few places Ive come back to multiple times in the city
This reasonably priced, intimate spot boasts a sushi bar where you can watch the friendly and immensely talented sushi chefs assemble innovative, fresh, and reasonably priced creations. I had the $26 mini omakese, which features six pieces of sushi and one of the chefs featured rolls. On Thursday of last week, that just happened to be the smooth, tender, and refreshingly simple fatty tuna roll. I recommend this Upper West Side essential for a solo meal or lunch for two
It used to be good, or better. Now price goes up but nothing more. Lunch special comes with soup or salad only (from soup & salad, please, we all know how much it costs for a soup), and price goes up about 20%. Wine goes up about 30%.For someone who can basically eat Japanese food on a daily basis, it has been my neighbor only choice for Japanese food for years. I will still go but will cut down my frequency and start searching for alternatives.
I think this is one of the best sushi in town for the price you pay.The sushi is great, service is good and the atmosphere is not shabby at all, but it is not as expensive as you may expect or think. It is my go-to spot for non omakase sushi in the city, simply perfect.

2022-05-08We have ordered from Yasaka a few dozen times, it is our go to spot for good sushi on the UWS without breaking the budget. Reasonably priced, good quality, super quick delivery. The restaurant gets very packed during peak hours.

2022-08-07Great food. Good atmosphere. Service is ok (it would be great if they can improve their service to be more professional).Went to this restaurant for lunch on a very hot summer Saturday. If you like Asian food, this is a recommended restaurant, because the food was authentic and delicious. I would come back again for the appetizers. This is one of the best Asian food around this neighborhood.

2022-08-03Sushi Yasaka is the spot to go when you want really high quality sushi for a reasonable price. They provide such fresh sushi that is absolutely incredible. We got a few rolls, but the real standout was their sweet potato tempura roll. The sweet potato is cooked beautifully and lightly batter and fried to allow for an excellent crunch in the roll.I also really appreciate that they give you actually fresh ginger and wasabi, not the stuff you get from packets at most sushi restaurants. The ambience is also great here - chill vibe to hang out and socialize without feeling overwhelmed. Lighting is good so it’s not too dark, and music is low, so you never feel like you’re having to talk loudly.

2022-08-01This is my favorite sushi spot. The fish is top quality and the prices are reasonable. My go-to is the sushi a la carte - the seared tuna and seared salmon are exceptional. Its always full inside, which speaks to how good this place is. Definitely make a reservation!

2022-07-19Very niche space with magnificent maki rolls. Even though we were walk ins we were seated immediately and served promptly. The staff were very kind and engaging. Our food came out correctly and almost immediately. The ambiance made for intimate conversation with the venue still respecting covid mandates it feel as though your in a booth with your significant other while being served lovely sushi 🍣. If your in the area definitely worth a pop in.

2022-05-22I love this place! The sushi is so fresh and always delicious. I’ve been here numerous times and I’ll definitely keep going. I wanted to give this place 5 stars, but I thought it was really odd to have iceberg lettuce in sushi. Something didn’t feel right about that 😂 however, the service is always lovely and I think you should try this spot out if you haven’t!

2022-07-08I had Sushi Yasaka for the lunch special. Usually when we talk about lunch special you would think theyre giving you lower quality scraps, however Sushi Yasaka does not compromise on quality. The lunch special came with a choice of soup or salad, 6 pieces of nigiri (which were all very good quality fish), and a roll of your choice (i had the unagi/eel). It was all very good and for the price I cant see any better sushi in the area.

2022-03-29Outstanding fish and rice quality! Super fresh and delicious. We got two lunch specials and it was great. Not overpriced as well. They do have lunch specials on weekends as well. Worth going!

2022-02-06One of the highest value for price sushi places in New York. They are not doing full omakese at the moment, only the $30 mini, which came with 6 pieces and a hand roll. Fish is fresh and well seasoned, decent rice, and fresh wasabi.

2022-08-12Such a great value! Went during lunch time for their lunch specials and was so impressed by the quantity of food we got. I got the kitchen lunch tray with fried Japanese chicken nuggets, eel avocado roll, shumai, rice, and salad… and it was yummy and filling. If you’re ever in the area for lunch, definitely check this spot out.
